(00:00):
Well, hello and welcome to theMinnesota Goodbye, the after the show podcast
that we do every single day thatis mostly made up of emails from you,
Jenny. Have a question for you. Where do you store your ideas?
When you have an idea for theshow, or an idea for a
trip, or an idea for asong you want to download, where do
you store it? I put minein my Apple Watch because it's got a

(00:23):
little recording voice memo section, andI put it right in there, and
then once a week I'll listen backto see what I recorded. Yeah,
I do my notes app in myphone, so everything goes in there.
Whenever I have a random idea,I put it in there, or if
I'm near my computer for show stuff. Then we use a Google calendar.
Well by we, I mean Iuse a Google calendar, but everyone has

(00:46):
access to it. Okay, yeah, I never go on there, but
I know that you do. Soall right, let's get started with the
emails on the Minnesota Goodbye. Wegot a bunch and I love this one.
Shy Len writes. In Saturday night, we had a girl's night and
still water there. I was drinkingmy beer, eating my food. My
sister yells, there's Jonathan Foegel. We bolt out of our chairs and run

(01:07):
over to him. You would havethought we'd seen Taylor Swift. His fiance
was so nice and thought it wasso funny that we wanted a photo with
him. Hi, Bailey, whereare you been? I was talking to
Vont the other room. Oh that'sfine, I don't care here, here's
totally yeah. I just wondered ifyou were anywhere interesting. Oh, just
talking to Vance. Okay, whatare you guys talking about? We were
talking about that pencil around the Lakeof the Isle. Oh funny. You

(01:27):
want to see the pencil they're talkingabout it. It's in Vaunt's Weekend in
five photos, and it's just calledthe pencil, called the low T Pencil
and Loti for Lake of the Asles. If you walk around Lake of the
Asles, you'll see it. It'sone of the houses right off of the
the parkway. Okay, I usedto go for walks down that way once

(01:48):
in a while, but I havenot in a long time. My Comfort
Lake, I'm always around that one. She goes on to say, I
attached a photo. She'd probably explainour shirts a group of his head to
buy each other a nasty sh shirt. We don't normally dress like this,
and our friends definitely thought we werecrazy for getting a picture with a lawyer.
And for the record, I'm nota squirter. Now. The reason
she brings this up it was abachelorette or girls night out party, so

(02:14):
they all had to buy each othergirl tacky vulgar shirts. So I'm going
to read some of these shirts thatare in the photo. Now, they're
a little bit dicey, but thisone says squirter for daddy. Wow.
Okay. Another one says I lovesucking Dix with my butthole. These that
printed on the front of shirts,Yes, this is a trend right now.

(02:38):
You get like a cringy shirt thatyou have to wear. Well yeah,
cringey shirts, yeah, but notvulgar to that extent. Sorry,
keep going, I want to hearmore. This was the only shirt I
had with com on it, Okay, with or with without? Come on
it? Yeah, you're right,my yeast infection itches throat, goat.

(03:02):
I want to tongue punch your fartbox. And then this one I can't.
There's a couple I can't read becausenot because they're too vulgar. But
because they're I can't see them.But it's a group of normal, average
looking twenty five thirty two year oldwomen who are all wearing these obscene shirts.
And I think that's a funny idea. I love that. I love

(03:23):
that. Oh man, maybe I'mgetting too old, but that's a little
too much for me to wear.Something about squirting or fart boxes. If
you wear a shirt, which onewould you wear? This was the only
shirt I had without com on it. No, my yeast infection itches that
one squirter for daddy, throat goat. I want to tongue punch your fart
box. I love sucking dicks withmy butthole. And then I can't read

(03:46):
the rest of them. I probablydo throat goat, throat, goat,
east infection one, oh state fairt shirts. Which one of those should
I name the podcast for Daddy?Like him? Not doing that one?
That is too much? Okay, throat goat? Okay, throat goat,
Okay, perfect, All right,Let's go on to the next one.

(04:11):
No, that's not a Minnesota Goodbyeone. Let's try this one. And
no, that's not a I'm tryingto find one that's for Minnesota, Goodbye.
That's not a press release. That'snot a press release, and it's
not one for the regular show.Okay, So we talked about whether the
kids die at the end of WillyWonka. Oh yeah, this came as
a big shock to me. I'veseen this movie a couple of times,

(04:33):
and I saw it, you know, when I was a kid, and
I've always just assumed that Willy Wonkabrings the dead kids back to life or
they're not really hurt. But thenBailey said, no, they do die
in the book and the musical.Yeah, they're dead. Andrew, a
staff writer from Ohio, says inthe Johnny Depp Willy Wonka movie, at
the end, as they're in theelevator, they show the kids leaving,

(04:55):
except the Blueberry Girl is extra flexible, Mike TV is super tall from being
stre and Veruka and her dad arecovered in garbage. I forget about Augustus
Gloop. But the other kids areall seen leaving the factory in the Johnny
dept version. So they survive inthe Johnny Depp version. I mean that
is that the main version. No, it's the one with Wilder. It's
an adapt adaptation. Yeah, andthey adapted it wrong. Okay, I

(05:19):
like that be He's like, no, the kids should die what they're meant
to die in it. That's cannon. Let's see, Virginny. I heard
you mention you're bleeding gums a fewtimes now. I thought i'd tell you
what I did to stop my bleedinggums. My gums would bleed every day
when I flossed. My gums wouldalways bleed when the dental hygienis would floss

(05:40):
my teeth. I did some researchand I found out about rinsing with peroxide.
Okay, you little backstory on this. Your gums bleed when you please?
Just we're talking about flossing it,and I said that mine bleed.
It looks like a scene from Jawsin my mouth when I fly, Yeah,
right right right. When I brushbefore bed, I always follow with
a prodoxide rinse, swish it aroundas long as you can spit it out
of rinse with water. This fortwo years, once a day, there
is no plaque on my teeth orgums. My gums no longer bleed.

(06:03):
My teeth feel smooth and clean likethey do when I get them cleaned.
The dentist give it a shot.It works. That is from renee.
Good to know. So rinse outwith peroxide rints. I don't know if
it's peroxide like a bottle of peroxide, or if there is a rinse with
them. I think you dilute theperoxide and just use that as a mouthwash.
Just mix some water in with it. Okay. When I was a

(06:25):
kid, I discovered that if youput peroxide on any wound, it would
foam. And I was fascinated bythat, Like if you had a scratch,
like I remember I crawled through abarbed wire fence one time and I
got a scratch and somebody said,we'll put peroxide on it. I'm like,
oh, what's peroxide? We'll justput it on there and it would
foam, and I was fascinated bythat. Does anybody else have any idea

(06:47):
what I'm talking about? No,I don't. I just picked my scabs.
I was like one of those kidswho just was always picking our scabs.
Okay, naturally, but yeah youcan, like, yeah, you
put it on a wound of anykind of bubbles a little bit bit.
Yeah, yeah, kind of likewhen you put it in your ears to
clean your ears out? Is thata thing? Everybody did, or just
me what you like, pour peroxideinto your ear and you like lay down

(07:09):
in your couch and then it bubblesup and then you clean out your ear.
No. Never, No, isthat a thing? Seriously, we
would do that. I mean notall the time, but we would do
that throughout my childhood to clean outyour ears. So, like, if
you are like, oh, myears feel like they're full of ear wax
or something, just lay down onthe couch or on your bed or something,
pour peroxide into it and let itsit for like five minutes really,
and then you put a cotton ballon it, turn your head back over

(07:31):
and then it'll like leak out onthe cotton ball. Throw away the cotton
ball, and then do the nextear. Is it effective? Does a
big ball of wax come out withit? I mean sometimes the cotton ball
is like kind of orangey brown andgross, and then I just kind of
like use a Q tip to getthe rest of it. But I mean
it feels kind of nice. It'scool to have like a weird bubble sensation
in your ear. I had anurse clean out my ears when I was
probably in high school or college onetime because I was at the at the

(07:54):
doctor, and I don't know howit came up. I really don't know
if the doctor said, yeah, you need to clean his ears or what.
But I could not believe as ahigh school not like an old fart,
but as a high school kid, like the huge amount of old dark
wax that builds up in our earsand they like shoot water out at your
ear when you set about. Thedoctor yeah, it's kind of fun.

(08:16):
Yeah, And she rinsed it outand I couldn't believe what was coming out
of there. I was like,WHOA, that's embarrassing. She's like,
nah, this is nothing, thisis Becky writes in again, these are
people that are asking for shine, doown cruise tickets and some other things.
So I got to kind of scoopthrough here a little bit. I don't

(08:37):
know why I use the word scoop. Scoop Andop love the Morning Show with
everyone in the podcast. I recentlystarted listening to I cannot stand the music
on KATWB but I understand that's notyour fault. But what's with all what
is all of you guys's favorite musicalgenres? Mine is old rap, old
country, old rock, but prettymuch anything after I was born two thousand

(08:58):
and one I don't listen to,so hopefully this makes the podcast into the
podcast. So they have a reallycool name. Their name is Maverick,
So Maverick. They were born intwo thousand and one, which would make
them about twenty three or so,twenty two or twenty three, and they
don't listen to anything after they wereborn. So let's go around the room.
I would say that, you know, I think a lot of the
time, the stuff that we mostlove to listen to is stuff that we

(09:22):
listen to when we were younger. So my stuff is probably like a lot
of eighty stuff, some ninety stuff, but I also like some newer stuff.
But I'm gonna if I'm gonna goback to it's probably gonna be stuff
I'd listened to in high school orcollege, you know, from back then.
What about you, Bailey, Well, I mostly listen to musical theater,
let's be honest, like Broadway soundtracks, and then also like classic rock

(09:43):
from late seventies early eighties. Reallyyeah, what band off the top of
your head? Like classic rock?Yeah? Like the Eagles? Oh really?
Oh yeah, We're like Leonard skinnerdFreebird truly, Freebird is my famite.
Oh, it's so good. Ilove Freebird so much, but that
really there's just so much. Imean, if like we're driving to Ohio
to visit my grandma, we justgo to different classic rock stations along the

(10:03):
way. I have them all writtendown for the entire road trip, so
we can just listen to classic rockthe whole time. What about you,
Jenny, I am so all overthe place because it depends on what I'm
doing. I listened to em musica ton, especially when I'm working out.
I'm like illuminears Noah kN kind ofgal. When I'm in like more
of a peaceful maybe I'm getting readyfor the morning show kind of vibe.
If I'm out for a walk,it could be just like Taylor Swift Radio

(10:28):
that I'm listening to on iHeart.I'm really all over the place. And
I also love classic rock too, that's my vibe. Literally, listen to
Cool on a eight all the time. Even though Cool one a weight,
it's starting to play like what Igrew up listening to, and it's not
even like classic rock as much anymore. So now I need to find a
different station. It's so funny becausewhen I first moved here, Cool one
away played stuff from like the latefifties Elvis Yeah and Buddy Holly seventies.

(10:54):
Yeah, and now I mean they'rethey're appealing to not a certain kind of
music, but a certain age.So they want people in their probably their
forties, fifties, sixties to listento Cool one oh eight because usually those
people have a lot of disposable income. You're a little bit older, you've
been saving, you're established in yourlife, in your career, So Cool

(11:15):
one o eight we'll play music notfrom the fifties, sixties and seventies anymore,
but about from the maybe that mostlythe eighties. When you say nineties,
well, it's like nineties now alllittle? Is it? Really?
Yes? I mean like Ace ofBass, I know that. I'm trying
to think of other ones. Whenthey started playing Nirvana, I was like,
this is weird. Yeah, whyis this happening? Or even they've
played like the Santana like Rob Thomas, they put max Box twenty yeah,

(11:41):
and I'm like, why am Ihearing Matchbox twenty on Cool one oh eight,
which is sixty seventies to me?Wow, that's yeah, it's still
like it's still should be an oldiesstation and I get those are those are
thirty forty year old songs. Anotherone from Stephanie says, my husband and
I do a staycation once again ata nice hotel in Minneapolis. This year,
we chose the Four Seasons and weare here now. This was written

(12:05):
Friday afternoon at three twenty four.It happens to be when a big Timberwolves
game occurred Thursday when we arrived.Bummer that they lost. We just got
off the elevator with common Nice andthe whole Mavericks NBA team is here.
Wow. We also ran into aWNBA player and a brother of the Timberwolves
with his kids. What are thechances our couple's staycation anniversary trip has brought

(12:28):
us face to face with so manyfancy people? Wow? Also, the
Four Seasons is amazing. We've neverbeen here before, but it is one
hundred percent the best hotel we've stayedin so far. Anyway, had to
share. I'm excited to see ifwe've run into anybody else, since we
have two more days before checkout. What a cool little staycation trip. Net.

(12:48):
I don't know anything about the fourSeasons. What is so great about
the four Seasons? Jenny very newhotel, probably the newest one downtown.
It's extremely fancy, fancy restaurants.I think there's a rooftop. They've got
like a nice deck area. Lotsof events get held on that deck area.
And then that's where it's rumored thatall the clubs stay if they're in
town. Cool. Okay, Okay, you gotta go start hanging out in

(13:11):
the lobby at the four y.Yeah, it's Timberley. It used to
be the Whitney because the Whitney was. It's condos now and it's over by
the old North Star Blanket factory. Is that sign still up that says north
Star Blankets. It's right by that, and it used to be called the
Whitney, and that is where everybodystayed. Michael Jackson, Janet Jackson,

(13:35):
led Zeppelin, and Kiss all stayedthere that I know of. Everybody stayed
there. And we got to meetKiss in the lobby one time because they
were staying there. It was mybirthday and their manager found out it was
my birthday and blah blah blah said, hey, they're willing to meet you
meet him in the lobby and Kisscame down the stairs just like regular guys,
and it was like, you know, okay who they are. You

(13:56):
wouldn't know who any of the guysin kiss are really, I say,
let the face manded. I probablywouldn't know either. Yeah, I mean
I knew because I'm a big fan. Next one, Dave Jenny vont Bailey
first of off, Love first off. Loved the new crew. Happy to
hear Vonton Bailey join the Dave RyanShow. I was listening and I heard

(14:16):
you talk about losing track of yourkids. I have two stories I'd like
to share about losing track of yourkids that weren't mine. I haven't lost
mine yet lol. The first oneI was in the mall about five years
ago. I saw mom and kidtalking at Dillard's and she was already fussing
to him about staying close by.An hour later, saw the same kid
crying by the play area. SoI walked up and he was saying he

(14:37):
couldn't find his mom. It turnsout he couldn't speak any English, only
Mandarin, which I spoke. Also, what are these chances? So I
comforted him and I told him tostay close to me and I'll see what
I can do. I didn't wantto move, so I was able to
get someone else to get security tolet the mom know that I had her
kid. She came bay five minuteslater in told me thanks. Second time

(15:01):
kid was lost in a small clothingstore and he only spoke Spanish. I
was able to help him with mybroken Spanish. Two his mom, thankfully
was in the dressing room. I'mhoping it's because I have a friendly face.
That's why kids approached me. Y'allhave a happy weekend from Alice.
How cool is that that you crylingual? Maybe multi lingual? Wow?

(15:24):
Yeah? I don't speak any languagewell except English, and even that was
questionable. You can speak pig Latinpretty well. How does pig Latin go?
Again? It's like you, Idon't X I don't remember either,
on the on the ube something likethat. Yeah, okay, promote,
pey is promote? I don't know. I'm reading a pewspaper in front of

(15:45):
me again, yep, okay, next one. Dave Jenny Bailey Vant don't
say my name is my first timewriting. I've been listening over twenty years,
and I can't tell you how muchyou've impacted my life. My mom
passed away eleven years ago, soI get lonely. Hearing you all gives
me a sense of a friendship andfinding situations that I can relate to.

(16:06):
Dave your stories of being a dadhelped me become a better parent. I
admire you. You're such an amazingperson. Thank you Jenny for opening up
the other week. I can relate. It's nice knowing you're not alone,
and it's okay if you need help. You inspire me. Bailey and Vaunt
are wonderful editions. It's my daughter'slast day of high school and she wrote
this on Friday. I really coulduse some advice on how to deal with

(16:29):
the emotions. I cry almost everyday. Getting photo boards ready really brings
up memories and knowing she really isgrowing up going to college a few hours
away. I know she needs togo and I want her to be happy.
Also, any grad gift ideas, what does your kids appreciate getting?
Thanks so much, love you all, and do you have any staff writer?
Stickers would love one. Oh andmy kids drink out of the hose

(16:52):
too, and so they are frombeautiful Kenyan, Minnesota. When Carson was
my last one left for college fiveyears ago, I was crushed. I
was just devastated. And then Istarted to turn it around because when they
leave for college, there's still yourkid. They really still are your kid.
But because they come home, theystill want you to make them a

(17:15):
grilled cheese sandwich, they still wantyou to make chocolate chip cookies, they
still want to watch TV with you, and they still have their bedroom.
They still they are still your kid. So it's not as big of a
shock as you think it's going tobe. Plus one thing that really helped
me was realizing how excited Carson was, not how sad I was. So

(17:36):
once I made it more about himand less about me than I did better
And it's not that bad. No, I mean I miss him. I
mean right now he's on an airplaneback from Soul and I'm always checking up
on him. But like, rightnow, it's not the college vibe anymore,
because so you just said, likewhen they go to college, they're
still your kids. So when doesit feel like it's no longer like they're

(17:56):
your kid anymore and they're just anotheradult kind of when they don't need you
as much to like make doctor's appointmentsor to find out how to get their
insurance or whatever. Because Carson's figuredout how to pretty much live life on
his own. Yeah, but it'sfine. You know, he's happy.

(18:18):
Uh huh. It's kind of likewhen we were all around that age,
we weren't going God, I reallymiss mom and dad so much. We
were just excited about our independence onour life. Right. Yes, so
I was so excited to get outand not have anyone like wondering where I
was. Well, my mom wasalways wondering where it was. But like
you know, I had strict curfewsin high school. I was so happy

(18:41):
to have the freedom I had whenI left for college free bird. So
yeah, it's not as bad asyou think. And it's you keep waiting
for that moment where you're so sadthat you go lay down in their room
on their bed and cry and holdtheir pillow. Fuck that. Oh it
never really had it? Should thathappen? My mom used to do that,

(19:03):
really because she missed me so much. She would just sit in my
room. Listen, I'm a catch, Okay, my mom loves me.
Your mom does love you. Ithink I think is part of it to
do with the fact was your momsingle when you left? Yeah, when
you left home. Yeah, sothen she really was alone. She was
alone. See, I still hadSusan, and I had Josie and I
had Roger, so I never reallyfelt totally alone. Let me see if

(19:26):
I got time for one more andno, that's that's going to be about
it. We got a lot ofpeople who were asking for tickets and that
type of thing. So, butif you got an email and you want
to send us to ask us anythingfor the Minnesota Goodbye, would love to
hear from you. Send your emailinto Ryan's show at katiewb dot com.
