Speaker 1 (00:00):
It's the Minnesota Goodbye, Hello, Bailey and Jenny here all
week long. Dave is in Sturgis, and then Evan's gonna
hop on whenever he can. He might be on today
in a little bit, we'll see, but yeah, Dave's and
Sturgis for the week. So you can follow along on
his Instagram. You can see a bunch of things he's
been posting, which I told him he needs to post more,
and he's been doing a pretty good job. So shout

(00:20):
out to the behind the scenes, because I had no
idea what Surgis is all about. So this one comes
in from Jenny and says, what would each of you
say is the song of the summer? I And so
she goes on to say, but think about it while
I read this. Yeah, I can't really think of any
one singular song that I have heard everywhere this summer
that would make me call it the song this summer.

(00:41):
Maybe Shaboozi Good News, or maybe Pink Pony Club. It
doesn't seem like there really is a strong front runner
this year. At the beginning of the summer, I felt
like I was hearing Tate McCray sports car quite a bit,
but again, not quite enough, she says, have a great
time in Sturgis. Dave, Hell, yeah, pimp and thanks. That's
from Jenny.

Speaker 2 (00:59):
Yeah, I don't think that.

Speaker 3 (01:01):
I feel like this summer is a weird summer because
we also felt that when we made our predictions for
Song of the Summer in like May, that we were
all like, well, we don't know what to pick, so
I guess we'll just pick what's been played a lot
and hope that it's right. But the ones, the majority
of the ones that we picked were like slow songs
like good News, which doesn't is does not feel like

(01:21):
a song of the summer.

Speaker 1 (01:23):
So I feel like song of the Summer also is
usually kind of like upbeat, happy whatever. Yeah, and I
think I had picked Alex Warren's Ordinary, right, I think
Dave patch good News, Yeah he did, And so I
mean we play it a lot, which usually the songs
we play are like the top songs on the Billboard charts,
and that's like what dictates what song of summer. But

(01:44):
you're right, I don't really think that anything stands out
a ton compared to like, I don't know, the sommer
that was de Morosito Posito, that was like such a banger.
Everyone knew like this is the song of the summer,
no doubt.

Speaker 3 (01:56):
And like Ping Pony Club, Yes, I agree, great song.
We play it a lot, but that's it's an old song,
so it's not like we just started playing it this summer.

Speaker 2 (02:05):
We've like been playing it, so it can't like count.

Speaker 3 (02:08):
And I already know that I'm losing song this summer
because I had my brain was like, oh, Miley Cyrus
is really gonna make it.

Speaker 2 (02:14):
Big this summer and she's gonna have a huge hit.
She's not.

Speaker 3 (02:18):
I really like Benson Boone's Mystical Magical. I hope I
hope that one. I don't know, I know it running forward.

Speaker 1 (02:25):
So if you want a little behind the scenes of
the industry. So when that song came out, I was
kind of shocked we weren't playing it on the radio
right away. And we had a dinner with our boss,
Rich and some other people shortly after we made our decisions,
and our boss was like, you know, you probably should
consult with your boss. He takes the music and does

(02:46):
everything with the music before picking song of summer. Cool,
And I'm like, well, why aren't we playing Mystical Magical?
This is a banger. And it's kind of like the
record label wants to push certain songs first that they
think are singles before they let like other things be
pushed out. So they were pushing What's here for Summer? Yes, yeah,

(03:07):
so they were pushing that one first before they started
pushing Mystical Magical. And I don't exactly know what that means,
but basically Mystical Magical didn't get to blow up until
they got enough use I think out of the other one. Yeah,
I don't know, and once again don't fully understand it.
But I thought that would be the song of the summer,
but then we weren't playing it, so I'm like, well,
I don't want to pick that because we weren't playing

(03:28):
it at all. So and I really thought that Miley
was going to have something off her new album too, so.

Speaker 2 (03:33):
I mean, all that stuff was really good.

Speaker 3 (03:35):
Yeah, so it's a yeah, it's a weird summer first
song of the summer because it doesn't feel like it's
any of them.

Speaker 1 (03:42):
Yeah, we'll see, we're all probably gonna lose. Yeah, I mean, honestly,
not really the what responds did you say?

Speaker 3 (03:49):
His?

Speaker 2 (03:49):
Already?

Speaker 1 (03:50):
Remember I don't either, I can't my brain is mush,
especially today it's Monday. Okay, well, thanks for that email.
Moving on to the next one that says hi, y'all,
she says, all. I'm saying y'all because I just started
watching The Hunting Wives and I can't help myself.

Speaker 2 (04:04):
What was your song of the song? Just walked in?

Speaker 1 (04:09):
He's all mean, he's a mean.

Speaker 4 (04:11):
Oh it was mystical Magical Benson?

Speaker 2 (04:14):
Am I on? Can you hear me?

Speaker 1 (04:16):
Three?

Speaker 2 (04:17):
Yes?

Speaker 4 (04:17):
All right, yeah, I chose mystical Magical And it was
funny because at the time we weren't playing it yet.
We were just talking about that and look, I manifested
your boys gonna win song of Sting.

Speaker 1 (04:25):
Okay, well, then maybe you will if that keeps doing
as good as it's doing.

Speaker 4 (04:29):
I wanted a Zisa mid Sheeran, but that song died
very quickly.

Speaker 1 (04:32):
I so weird because it was so good. I'm surprised
by that. Okay, moving on, Hey y'all. Hey, Yeah, it
says hey y'all, But I said hey y'all because I
started watching The Hunting Wives and I'm really into it,
and I because haven't watched it. It's good so far. Okay,
this is hoping for some advice from you all. My
mom has been borrowing money from my boyfriend and I

(04:53):
for the past few years. She owes me about seven
hundred bucks from the past year, and I don't think
she's going to be stopped being anytime soon. The thing is,
this wasn't always her behavior. She was very money conscious
and frugal when my siblings and I were growing up.
She was a single mom of three. She had gone
through a divorce about sevens years ago. She was asked
to resign from her job of nearly twenty five years

(05:16):
due to mental health decline, and has since been collecting
on her pension and working part time as a van driver. Tonight,
which is Friday, she sent me a text asking me
if I would share my bank account info with her.
She needed it to pay sales tax on a news
cell plan and her check won't be in until Monday.
Before I could even ask why, she says the change

(05:38):
is going to have me save seventy dollars per month.
I asked her if I could just transfer her the
money needed to the bank account, and she told me
no because her account is overdrafted. I asked how much total,
and she said it was seventy five fifty six and
that she'll delete it right away. Long story short, I
gave her my card number, but now I'm stressing about

(05:59):
it and to cancel my card and get a new
one as I have an icky feeling about it. I
know the advice Dave will give don't let don't lend
money to family that you expect to get back. It's
not that I'm expecting it back, it's more so, how
do I help her get out of this position. I'm
the only one of my siblings she asks money from,
but I know she asks her siblings too. I can't

(06:20):
afford to pay for her lifestyle, and I will say
that almost every time I'm there. I'm bringing in multiple
packages that she's ordered from online. The tabs on her
vehicle up and do since March, but she says she
can't afford seven hundred dollars for them right now. Her
tab shouldn't be that much. She is looking for another job,
but ever since the divorce, she's just not the same

(06:40):
with money management. Any advice to help would be greatly appreciated.
Thanksike Ooh. I won't say her name because she doesn't
really specify one way or another, but man, Dave is
probably the only one of us that has a fa
like family members constantly asking for money, So I feel

(07:01):
bad he's not here to help you with an answer
to this because it's so hard. You're not going to
like knock give your mom money. Yeah, if my mom
asked me for money, I would help.

Speaker 2 (07:11):
Her, though.

Speaker 3 (07:12):
I think if if my mom asked me for money,
I would write her a check. So it's like, this
is the amount that you get versus giving her access
to my bank account.

Speaker 2 (07:20):
Yeah, yeah, Ben, she can't just take it fromever.

Speaker 1 (07:22):
I think this situation was weird because she was like
at the cell phone place and they needed an account
number right off. The bad thing is what the vibe was,
so I get. I mean I would probably do the
exact same thing that she's saying of canceling the car
to getting a new one.

Speaker 2 (07:36):
I would.

Speaker 3 (07:36):
I would definitely, because then it's like if she has
access to the account itself, then I mean then it's
like a you know, a well that's just always open
versus here's a check and I know I'm not going
to get this money back kind of situation.

Speaker 2 (07:52):
Yeah, it's about like.

Speaker 4 (07:52):
Its boundaries and enabling, which enabling especially with family. I
am big on like not doing whether it's like you know,
the way you treat me, or like the money situation.

Speaker 2 (08:02):
But yeah, I don't know.

Speaker 4 (08:03):
I guess necessarily how to help her. I'm going through
my own financial situation, so I want to know too.

Speaker 1 (08:09):
I will say that her having packages show up at
the door is definitely like dopamine hits for her. I
know someone who's like that too, where they got themselves
into tons of credit card debt and it was like
constant Amazon packaging packages arriving. And I mean that person
like took things into their own hands and figured it out.
But like with your mom, if you're not living with

(08:31):
her and like kind of monitoring that, Like, how are
you going to stop her from ordering stuff all the time,
because clearly she's not good with her money. I feel
bad because I feel like there's a lot to unpack here.
It sounds like the divorce took a big toll on her.
I know you said like since the divorce, she's not
been good with money, but like it kind of sounds
like mental health is like a huge issue as well,

(08:52):
especially since you did say that she was asked to
resign from her job because of some mental health issues.
So yeah, I feel like that might be where you
want to look into first to see if you can
maybe get her a little bit of help with her
mental health, and then maybe that can help with some
of the financial stuff. But if anyone has advice, feel
free to email in and will help this person out

(09:14):
on the Minnesota goodbye, Yes, right here, right here on
the how it happens? Okay, moving on, let's see this
and says hello, Jenny Bailey and font It's Charisse and
I just wanted to ask you guys a question. After
swearing off of soap operas many years ago, I recently
got pulled back into the soap world because of a
brand new soap opera called Beyond the Gates. Now, this

(09:37):
show started off with craziness and drama, but now they're starting.

Speaker 2 (09:40):
To lose me.

Speaker 1 (09:41):
It's not the first show I felt this way about.
I guess my question is am I expecting too much
from the shows I watch? At least as far as
good storylines? Have you guys had this happen? Any insight
is greatly appreciated, all right, And that's from our buddy Charise.

Speaker 4 (09:55):
I swear I was just thinking about Charis yesterday. I
don't know what I saw, but I like she can
to mind yesterday, so shout out Charize, it's a good
friend of the show. What about TV shows, I'm sorry,
I just really was thinking about her yesterday.

Speaker 2 (10:08):
We're like, we're expecting too much.

Speaker 4 (10:10):
Yeah, No, I feel like I'm pleasantly that's not true,
because I'm definitely one after Dave to bitch about a
TV show or movie, But soap operas, I just feel
like our thing of the past. Like I don't feel
like they make good soap operas anymore, so you're bound
to expect more these days.

Speaker 3 (10:25):
I well, I I mean all the shows that I've
been watching. Yeah, I usually go in thinking, Okay, this
is gonna be good. Because so I just watched Lena
Dunham's new show called Too Much, and I did not
care for it, but I finished the whole thing because
I once I get like a couple episodes in, I
just like, well, there's only seven more, and then I
just power through the next seven. I'm just what I'm

(10:49):
annoyed about in general is that I keep getting stuck
watching TV shows where like the main female lead is
either insufferable in some way or just like not likable
in some way, and I just assume that she's poorly
written by potentially men. Even though I'm complaining about Lena
Dunham show, but Lena Dunnam is also Lena Dunham.

Speaker 4 (11:09):
I feel she's just like, Oh, I do feel like
there's been a lack of character development in a lot
of shows lately.

Speaker 2 (11:15):
Well they don't.

Speaker 3 (11:15):
I feel like they don't even need to develop them
because people are gonna watch it anyway, especially if it's
salacious in any way.

Speaker 2 (11:20):
I guess.

Speaker 4 (11:20):
But like you're saying, like they don't know how to
make her character not insufferable.

Speaker 3 (11:25):
Right, Give me something, Give me depth, give me three dimensional,
not just like I'm loud and a woman, okay, or
I'm awkward and a woman, or I'm quirky and a woman.

Speaker 2 (11:36):
Oh my gosh.

Speaker 1 (11:37):
So these are all of Lena's characters, well.

Speaker 2 (11:39):
Just I mean those, but you know there's other stuff
that I swear.

Speaker 3 (11:42):
It's like, I assume that this show is going to
be good, and then something about the female character Leine,
I'm just like, what the heck.

Speaker 2 (11:50):
Like, give me something anything, Give me a flea bag.

Speaker 3 (11:53):
Flea Bag is one of the best TV shows ever made,
because they're all complex characters.

Speaker 1 (11:59):
I think also, though, to add on to what you're
saying chores about, like do we expect too much from shows?
I don't think that that's necessarily it. I think that
we just have so many variety of options now. So
we hear about a good one and we started, and
it's great for the first season, and then you fall
off by the second season, and then you find the new, next,
new good show. Like whatever.

Speaker 2 (12:17):
There's too much.

Speaker 1 (12:18):
TV, yeah, like there really is. And I don't watch
a lot, like I swear. I get recommendations constantly, and
I just like, I don't know, I'm I'm It's not
that I don't like TV. I just stopped watching TV
in college and I really never started back up again
because I was too Porto for TV, so I just
never really did so every once in a while I'll
find something. But I did start, like I said, watching

(12:38):
The Hunting Wives, and I actually sat down and watched
like three episodes in a row yesterday, and so I
am hooked on that one. It is salacious, it is crazy,
there's a lot of sex in it. It's great. I
know that there's a lot of straight women questioning their
sexuality because of it. I'm seeing that show up on
TikTok now, but that's a good one. But yeah, I

(12:59):
just that there's so many options that we get bored.
The summer I Turned Pretty was so hot, Like when
it first came out, I didn't watch it till like
the next year or something. But then the second season
came out and I was like nah, And like now
the third season's out and people are still talking about it,
but I just I don't know. I always almost fall
off of everything by the second season.

Speaker 3 (13:19):
Now, yeah, that one people keep recommending to me and
I have not started it.

Speaker 4 (13:22):
And that's another problem. Not only is TV so like
there's so much of it, it takes so long for
other shit to come out. Yeah, Like it takes years
at a time because of the way these like streaming
services are producing shows and they have.

Speaker 2 (13:32):
To go revisit.

Speaker 1 (13:33):
That's true first, because like Restart It Wednesday is coming
out finally in August September or something, And that came
out I specifically remember because it was when I was
in Thailand, So that's coming up three years ago this November.
So that came out almost three years ago. And now
like I'm still very interested in watching the second season,
but I'm like, man, that took that one took a long.

Speaker 3 (13:55):
Same with so Stranger Thinks season five in between season
five and season four. All four seasons of The Bear
came out in between seasons four and five of Strangers.

Speaker 1 (14:05):
Yeah, they stayed on top of their ship the Bear
did they were They were good because it was a
network show, like actual Yeah, yeah, an actual TV network whatever.
But all right, well, that'll do it for the Minnesota Goodbye.
It's going to be the three of Us vanto Beyond
as many as you can this week, So if you
have specific emails for us, feel free to send it
in at Ryan's show at KTIWB dot com. Thanks so

(14:28):
