Speaker 1 (00:00):
Oh my god. We're excited for the Minnesota Goodbye live broadcast.
Is it going to be on YouTube? Is there any
reason why we can't just put a YouTube like a
camera in the back of the studio and broadcast.

Speaker 2 (00:12):
It on YouTube because it's a like a chair or
not a charity thing. But it's for donations, right, So
then if anyone can watch it, why would they come?

Speaker 3 (00:20):
Oh? I don't know. Isn't that I thought maybe that
was the reasoning because I didn't.

Speaker 1 (00:24):
Know the reason I had. I thought it was because
of technical reasons. But I mean there's a difference between
seeing it in person. It's kind of like seeing a
concert on TV, yeah, and seeing you know, Coldplay in person.

Speaker 4 (00:35):
I personally thought that we were live streaming it. Oh okay, Oh,
I don't know.

Speaker 5 (00:39):
I know Vont is able to make that happen because
we did it for that one wedding we did on
Valentine's d Yeah, so we definitely kind of have it up.

Speaker 1 (00:46):
Okay, Well, I think maybe we should do that. Yeah,
I mean, I don't know, we've never done this before,
so but we're excited about it.

Speaker 3 (00:53):
He might be the guy to we'll we'll.

Speaker 1 (00:55):
Work on that with vont Vant will be on the
Minnesota Goodbye Live podcast, so he is not going to
be like you know, in the other room like he
usually is when we record these. And we got a
little bit of a schedule worked out where basically the
big thing is if you're coming, number one, we're so
glad you're coming. Come with a question or two. And
because you know, if we go okay, does anybody have

(01:16):
any questions? You know, all look at each other going.
Mom would be like, okay, well that has been a
live Minnesota Goodbye, thanks for coming. So let's jump into
the emails. First. One, Hey, Sam, says Denise. I love
everything you guys do for Christmas wish. You can tell
you work so hard to vet the candidates to ensure
there is a real need, and you do a phenomenal job.

(01:37):
I'm curious. Do you have any Christmas Wish gone wrong
stories to share? Have an amazing day? Right from Denise? Yeah,
I've got a couple. There's been a couple where we
did the wish and then we found out later that
the family was scamming us and using this way. This

(01:57):
is years ago, and this is why we very carefully
vet them now that something happened six years ago, and
this family is still trying to milk this for stuff.

Speaker 3 (02:06):
Wow.

Speaker 1 (02:07):
We've talked to ones. It's like, yeah, they already won
a free trip to Disney World and they did a
twenty two thousand dollars go fundme. Oh but one of
my best lessons was we did one fifteen is years
ago and we went out to their house because somebody said, oh,
their dad had a you know, a horrible accident or
whatever and he's not able to work, and oh my gosh,

(02:28):
what let's get them things. We went in. They lived
in a beautiful's house in Woodbury with a big, like
two story stone fireplace, and it was like, clearly they
did not need stuff. And we learned on that day.
We learned that just because something bad happens doesn't mean
there's a financial need. And I've told this story a

(02:49):
million times. If something happened to me, if I got
hit by a light rail train, we wouldn't need anything
because we've already got insurance, you know. So we always
remind people it's like, just because there's a tragedy or
something bad happened, doesn't need their financial need. We still
do vet very very thoroughly, and it's you just at

(03:12):
some point you got to take people's word for it.
You just have to assume they're not lying.

Speaker 5 (03:20):
Yeah, we did have one other one go wrong that
had nothing to do with us and us not doing
enough vetting. It was a really weird situation where someone
nominated someone and I honestly don't think they were very close.
So when we tried to get the woman on the phone,
she didn't want any of her Like she didn't want
to be on the radio. She didn't want her information

(03:40):
out there because I think she had gotten out of
like a bad situation with an ex and she didn't
want her ex knowing anything about her. And so, and
the person who was in studio didn't really like give
us the heads up, like we always assume that people
know each other really well, and this person was like
not close enough with that person. We were obviously doing

(04:00):
a very sweet thing, but it was it was a
weird situation.

Speaker 1 (04:03):
We gave one old woman a stove years ago, and
she was so ungrateful that people like texted and called
in and said, oh my god, she was so ungrateful,
and we basically said, you know what she was, But
there's no requirement that you have to be grateful express gratitude.
We just give you something. Yeah, you know, we're going
to hope that you're happy with it and grateful. But
she was like, Okay, that's it, Okay, thanks, okay bye,

(04:26):
and we're like whoa, whoa.

Speaker 2 (04:27):
I mean, people kind of get upset when like the
person receiving the wish doesn't cry, but like some people
just don't cry.

Speaker 5 (04:33):
Well they have a million times that like a lot
of people have cried so much already, all the crying.

Speaker 4 (04:40):
Is out of them.

Speaker 1 (04:41):
It's so true. Yeah. I learned that from Lee Olsbick
years ago when she used to be on the show.
Another topic from Jess I Heart mailed out these fun
stats and I wanted to share. Apparently I am a
top ten percenter listener. Now imagine what that number would be.
And I had to listen on the iHeart Apple driving

(05:01):
and just not on the radio. So she gets a
big graphic that says, here's what you listen to your
favorite radio station. You listen to KTWDB for fifty five thousand,
two hundred sixty two minutes in twenty twenty five.

Speaker 3 (05:15):
Holy crap, Actually a lot that is so much it.

Speaker 1 (05:19):
Is thirty nine thousand, five hundred ninety five users share
the same top station. Congratulations, you are in the top
ten percent of KDWB listeners. That's cool. Then it says
your top podcast is the Minnesota Goodbye. We know you

(05:39):
love a look good story and this was your number
one show of the year. Dave Ryan shows Minnesota Goodbye.

Speaker 3 (05:47):
Wow Wow.

Speaker 1 (05:48):
I love that.

Speaker 5 (05:48):
Thank you so, and tagged in quite a few Spotify wrapped.
I know we're not supposed to talk about Spotify, but
whatever they of people having like the Minnesota Goodbye as
nice top podcast, like when it reviewed all the top podcasts,
it was like that one or like Fallon and I
got taken in some things with ours, and so shout
out to everyone who were like your top and you're
wrapped of whatever with iHeart whoever.

Speaker 1 (06:10):
I love that. Yeah, David Jenny, you were talking about
some quirks on the podcast the other day, and it
made me think of the fact that it amazed me
when I learned my husband eats his fries before the
entree and not in conjunction. For example, I'll eat a
couple of fries, take it bite to the burger, and
keep going in that rotation. But if he orders a
burger basket, he eats all those fries then his burger.

(06:33):
This is crazy to me because maybe it's similar to
Dave eating the less tasty thing first. I always do that.
I'll have the lima beans first, then I'll have the
whatever potatoes and gravy. Then I'll dig into the meat loaf,
because the meat loaf is the best. Bailey wasn't on
that podcast, so let's hear her ear weird eating quirks.
Bailey weird eating.

Speaker 4 (06:51):
Quirks, so mine was.

Speaker 5 (06:55):
I don't know if this was specific to that, but
I remember I said that I eat things evenly. So
if I'm eating grapes, I take two at a time
so one can go on each side in the mouth.
Or if I have a bunch of skittles and I
have four of them, I eat them all on each side.

Speaker 3 (07:08):
Okay, I have this just just like fresh in the brain.

Speaker 2 (07:11):
I ate spaghetti yesterday and when I am both me
and my sister when we eat spaghetti, we bring the
parmesan with us, so we put parmesan on top and
then we eat like whatever has the white on top
of it, We eat that and then we put more
parmesan on it, and then eat the white part and
then more parmesan. So by the end we're essentially just

(07:33):
eating parmesan cheese.

Speaker 3 (07:34):
With like a side of spaghetti.

Speaker 4 (07:36):
I like that.

Speaker 5 (07:36):
So that's a weird pern because you got to think
about when you get like a big platter of nachos.

Speaker 1 (07:42):
And I think Bailey's microphone was on, and that's okay,
you know what. You didn't say anything awful and weird,
but Bailey's microphone was on, and people were calling to say, Bailey,
his microphone was on.

Speaker 4 (08:01):
Is it still on?

Speaker 1 (08:02):
No, it's not on now. I turned it off. It
was my mistake, totally my mistake. So good thing. You
didn't swear anything or say mother something. So I think
we're in good I think we're in good shape.

Speaker 4 (08:14):
Didn't hear me in the background talking about.

Speaker 1 (08:16):
Okay, okay, good.

Speaker 4 (08:19):
I didn't say anything bad. I just I don't know you.

Speaker 5 (08:22):
I don't think Rich would be very happy with be
talking about not. iHeartRadio.

Speaker 1 (08:27):
It's okay, next one, Hello morning crew from Heather. I
love your show and I and all of you that
are on it. I have a situation when my parents
have got two kids eight and six, My parents live locally,
so they babysit the kids a lot, usually at their
own house, but sometimes they come to our house. It's
going to be a late night to put our kids
to bed or whatever. We keep our house at sixty

(08:50):
eight degrees in the winter. That's not abnormal or cold.
Every time my parents come over, my dad turns it
up to seventy degrees. Like they're over for a couple
of hours. He can't just a sweatshirt on. He's got
to turn up the thermostat that he doesn't put it
back down. I can't be rude about it because they
are taking the time to watch my kids. But it's
so weird. Again, it's a couple of hours at sixty
eight degrees. Do you think it's rude or strange to

(09:12):
change the thermostat at somebody else's home. I know it's
my parents, so it's not like a guest. But still,
thank you, love you all from Heather. Heather, I think
it is fine. Some old people they don't have good circulation.
They're cold all the time. If they're skinny, they're cold
all the time. When my mom was in a nursing home,

(09:34):
she lost a ton of weight. She was cold all
the time, and so I think sometimes when you're heavier
you get a lot more insulation, but if you're not,
then the blood is closer to the surface, closer to
the cool air. I would say, you know what, it's
not worth bothering with when they're done, when they're gone,
turn it back down. Yeah, would never bring it up.

Speaker 4 (09:54):
I just don't. I don't know.

Speaker 5 (09:55):
I think I would still ask the person instead of
just going and doing it myself. I think that that's
a little bit like unfair.

Speaker 4 (10:03):
Okay to her.

Speaker 1 (10:06):
Let's see, here's one new listener to your podcast and
and enjoying it greatly. Thank you. I'm glad you're new, Rebecca.
I love one Nita's weekly rants as well as when
she calls in live on the show. But for God's sake,
can she get a better audio recording device. It's so
low you can hardly understand what she's saying.

Speaker 4 (10:24):
Oh, I don't think that's her fault. That must be
our fault then, because it sounds fine on our end.

Speaker 1 (10:28):
Yeah. Well, I saw that yesterday and I cranked up
her volume because afterward we can go into the podcast
and like adjust the levels a little bit. So I
did crank it up a little bit, so I will
just remember to do that because I can see on
the what do they call it the waveform, yes, that
her audio is lower than ours, like mine is a
little higher than Jenny's, but not considerably. But I think

(10:49):
it's just there's different settings or whatever. But thank you, Rebecca,
we appreciate the feedback. Shanon writes in Hello morning crew,
I was so excited to hear that we're coming to
the Minnesota Goodbye Live podcast. My sister and I are
so different but totally bond over this podcast. Love to
get two tickets. We got her set up absolutely no

(11:11):
darting or licking for me. I'm more of a stroking
and poking gal.

Speaker 4 (11:15):
Oh yeah, me too. Girl.

Speaker 1 (11:18):
Well you're missing out. You are missing out.

Speaker 4 (11:22):
I don't think I am.

Speaker 1 (11:23):
Then she leaves as a topic for the Minnesota Goodbye podcast,
So we're not going to Man, I'm not gonna use
that one.

Speaker 4 (11:30):
That stroking and poking.

Speaker 5 (11:33):
Oh I'm sorry, fallon text me, I well not anymore
because I'm not in a relationship technically.

Speaker 4 (11:38):
But she used to text me, are you sucking her
fucking all the time?

Speaker 1 (11:40):
Wow?

Speaker 4 (11:41):
And I'm sure she's probably said it like that.

Speaker 1 (11:43):
She said that to me, Dave, Dave, and I'll be like, what,
what are you sucking her? Fucking yeah, ballin.

Speaker 5 (11:48):
So I've been trying for the longest time to think
of something I can say back to her stroking and poking.

Speaker 2 (11:53):
I'm poking and scooping, pooping and scooping. What I always
say that about my cut.

Speaker 3 (11:58):
I was like, what are you school pooping and scooping? Yeah,
just an regular day of pooping and scooping, all right.

Speaker 1 (12:06):
Max wife Leslie says she is coming to the podcast.
I've listened since Dave's first day. KADIEWB was my alarm clock,
and I remember waking up here in Dave's voice and
thinking that is not Steve Cochrane. True. I listen every
day from five forty five to ten and the Minnesota
Goodbye podcasts. I know Dave will be retiring some day,

(12:26):
but I don't like to think about it because I
can't imagine starting my day any other way. I saw
him once in person. He had the longest eyelashes, but
I was too afraid to say hello, hope to see
you on the six your longtime pee One family listener,
Leslie to have long eyelashes.

Speaker 4 (12:42):
You do have long eyelashes, but they're not super dark.

Speaker 2 (12:45):
I want to curl them up. That's what I want
to do. I want to get at them with an
eyelash curler.

Speaker 1 (12:50):
I've always had long eyelashes. My mom used to saying
it would piss me off. She'd say, you'd make a
really pretty girl with m eyelashes, and you're like, I
don't want to be.

Speaker 5 (12:57):
People say that to like young like Lars have young
boys amount of times, and I feel like that's a weird.

Speaker 3 (13:03):
And they always bought their eyelashes too.

Speaker 2 (13:05):
They'll be like, oh my gosh, you have some beautiful eyelashes,
and it's like, okay, yeah, I don't know.

Speaker 3 (13:09):
If I've ever heard you make such a pretty girl.
That's such a weird thing.

Speaker 1 (13:12):
This is it is a little bit. Yeah. I did
not appreciate that because I was like, oh, no, girl, Uh,
happy hump Day. This came in yesterday. I've lately noticed
listening to Minnesota Goodbye that before the actual content starts,
I'm now subjected to three, yes, three minutes of ads,
plus additional ads right in the middle of the podcast.

(13:33):
Sometimes I know, you guys have no control over the ads,
But seriously, iHeart, what the actual fuck? I think a
little posse of Juanita Harrison Smith from The Vikings and
Jenny because she's strong like Paul Bunyan should march to
HQ and start wrecking shit till iHeart reduces the amount
of podcast ads. That would be a good bit. Yes,

(13:53):
I know ads are essential because of money stuff like that,
but seriously, this shit pisses me the fuck off. Shout
out again to Juanita, thank you friends, and say warm.
That's from Kyle. I'm not surprised. I mean, are are
We are a money making venture and that's how we
make our money. And I think it's kind of like, well,
I think they experiment to see like how much will
you tolerate ads? And that's unfortunate because I don't like

(14:16):
your experience to be bad. When you're listening. Can you
fast forward through the ads?

Speaker 5 (14:21):
You can easily hit the plus fifteen, plus fifteen or
plus thirty or something.

Speaker 1 (14:26):
I do that all the time when I listen to
a podcast, because it's like, okay, blue Apron wants to
send meals to skip skip skip, and then if you
go too far, you hit the back fifteen seconds and
you're good.

Speaker 2 (14:37):
Right exactly them. We just switched podcast to podcasts uploaders,
so that might be part of it.

Speaker 5 (14:43):
No, I think it's just the fact that we're at
the end of the year and they're sing a lot
bad than right now for the clients.

Speaker 1 (14:48):
Yeah, Okay, wrapping up with one more thing, and that
is we're looking forward to, as I said, the Minnesota
Goodbye Live podcast. And just a reminder, it is twenty
five to get in, so if you are set to go,
bring twenty five dollars cash. We do not have change,
so and you can be more generous than that if
you want to. If you want to donate fifty or

(15:09):
one hundred or whatever. Didn't a company donate one or
twenty five hundred dollars this morning?

Speaker 5 (15:14):
It does say, and I don't want to to be fair,
I don't really want to give them a shout out
because it's on our unsettled transactions yet, but it does
say that somebody a company did donate twenty five hundred dollars.

Speaker 1 (15:24):
That is wonderful. So, by the way, just one more
thing about the Minnesota Goodbye Live podcast. If you can't
make it for whatever reason, just quick send me an
email to Ryan's show at katiwb dot com and let
us know and we're excited, and we'll see you on
Saturday at noon here at the Space Needle Studio. And
if you can't make it, we'll catch you next time

(15:46):
here on the Minnesota Goodbye.
