Speaker 1 (00:00):
It's time for another Dave Ryan show Christmas Wish. Let's
get started. Christine is here in the studio. Good morning, Christine,
Good morning. You've been listening to Christmas Wish since you
were a little baby, and now you've got a baby
of your own. Yes, how old is your little baby?
He's seven months? Oh my god, he's just a little
bit so cute. He's like squirming around. Did you leave
(00:22):
him in the other room with Vaughan? I did you
know what a bad idea that is?
Speaker 2 (00:26):
What baby here?
Speaker 1 (00:28):
Vaughan's got a baby in the studio. Do you feel
okay with von watching your baby? He'll be fun?
Speaker 2 (00:35):
No?
Speaker 1 (00:36):
No, all right. So you've heard Christmas Wish and you probably, Christine,
never thought that you would ever nominate somebody, that you
would never know anybody who needed a Christmas wish. Yet
here you are. Yes, that is very correct. So we're
going to call this person. How do you know, uh, Whitney?
Who is she? Is she a friend or a coworker?
Whitney's my sister in law. Okay, we're gonna call Whitney
(00:59):
right now. This all happens live on KTWB. If you're
hearing this right now, on Tuesday morning. It is live.
Sometimes they go very smoothly and sometimes they don't. But
the magic of Christmas wish it is one percent absolutely
real and genuine. And let's call Whitney right now. So
(01:22):
you said, sister in law, you're really close with the family,
and I know that they live a little bit out
of town. So do you get to see them often? Yeah,
we see them very frequently. Yeah. See if Whitney answers
the phone. Hello, Hi is this Whitney. Hi Whitney. It
(01:45):
is Dave Ryan from kd WB Radio and we are
on the radio right now and I'm here with your
cousins sister in law Christine. Say hi Christine, by what
he say? Do you have any idea why we might
be calling you.
Speaker 2 (02:04):
This morning, Kali because of my son?
Speaker 1 (02:10):
I think. So. We are doing Katie WB's Christmas wish.
Every year we help out some families that might be
struggling a little bit during the holiday season. And Christine
nominated you, Whitney with a with a letter and if
you have a minute, we would like her to read
that letter right now so we can grant her Christmas
wish for you and your family. Do you have a
(02:31):
minute yeah, Okay, go ahead, Christine, whenever you're ready.
Speaker 3 (02:36):
We're submitting to semil in a family for a Christmas wish.
In February, our eight year old nephew, Dawson, was diagnosed
with a severe form bone cancer called ossio sarcoma. He
started chemotherapy at the Children's Hospital in Minnesota in April
and has undergone countless procedures, appointments, surgeries, and long stays.
This has taken an unbelievable toll on his entire family,
(02:58):
not only Dawson, but his parents, Whitney and Greg, and
younger siblings Eliot. In June, Greg is the sole financial
provider for their family, while Whitney chose to leave her
job to be by Dawson's side through this process. Dawson's
chemo schedule is very demanding, having them go back and
forth from Brainer to Minnesota Children's weekly while away. Greg
(03:18):
takes on all the roles at home with Elliott in June,
and Whitney and Dawson take on his chemo together. They've
tried to prioritize being together as a family as much
as they can, even when that means a three hour
drive back to Brainer and for a night at home together.
Whitney and Greg are truly the most caring and giving
people I know, and to see them struggle has been heartbreaking.
(03:39):
All they've asked for for this holiday season was to
be surrounded by our loud, loving and large family. They
would never ask for help, but I know this disease
has affected their family in so many ways. This gift
would mean the world to them and help bring a
little bit of joy back into their home for the holidays.
Thank you, Katie, Katy w B for granting this wish.
Speaker 2 (03:59):
Wow, thank you.
Speaker 1 (04:01):
We were so touched by this one because I've had
I've got four kids. They've all been eight years old
at one time or another, and that is such a
magical time. That is probably the height of Christmas magic
when you're eight years old, because everything is so wow,
the tree, the stockings, the Santa, the presence, the ball
(04:21):
of that. How is Dawson doing this morning? Are you
with him right now?
Speaker 2 (04:27):
Yeah, he's feeling good right now. He had his scance
yesterday and we don't know the results yet, but so
we're a little bit nervous on edge until we get
the results from those. But physically right now, Dawson's doing good.
Speaker 1 (04:49):
Okay, well tell him we said hi, and we are
going to do This is the fun part, I guess
you could say of Christmas wish, where we get to
give you some things for you and your family. In Dawson,
and by the way, you are a great baby Namer.
Listen to the names of the babies, Dawson, Elliott, and June.
If I have a baby, I'm in a name or
June a great name. So we have, through the generosity
(05:14):
of people who listen to the show and Treasure Island
and Holiday, we've been able to put together some things
that and believe it or not, there's a person outside
your door right now. You don't have to let him
in right now, but they're bringing things for you and
your kids and and for Greg. Also, let's start off
with little Dawson. Dawson is eight years old and just
(05:37):
and so it was only in February, so a year ago.
He is just a normal, little, obnoxious little kid, and
everything was normal until February, right, and then in February
everything changed. So for Dawson, we got him a bunch
of stuff just to kind of cheer him up and
let him know how loved he is and we got
him a first of all, a police car and muscle
(05:59):
car leg set, which I think sounds really cool. A
race car and car carrier truck Lego set, because we
hear that he likes legos and cars and trucks.
Speaker 2 (06:06):
Yeah, he loves Legos.
Speaker 1 (06:09):
Yes, this is the perfect day. This is the Lego primary.
I love that. We've had a three hundred dollars Shields
gift card. Now, an eight year old with three hundred dollars,
you know he's gonna blow it on stuff he doesn't need.
But what do you think that? What do you think
that he's going to get when he goes to Shields?
Speaker 2 (06:27):
Maybe shoes? I don't know what. Shields has too much.
Speaker 1 (06:34):
They're kind of a sporting good store. But well everything
SIS is like you can spend a day in. There's
like the Valley Fair of sporting goods store. Help uh
for for Elliott? How old is Elliot?
Speaker 2 (06:46):
And he's okay?
Speaker 1 (06:48):
Now again Elliott is going to get a led light
up basketball and led light up helmet. I don't even
know what that is, but that sounds fun. And then
a three hundred dollars gift card. Again, here's a six
year old running through Target with three hundred dollars. Keep
an eye on him. Okay, yeah, how old is baby June?
Speaker 2 (07:07):
She's too, she's too.
Speaker 1 (07:09):
I love that. This is what we got for somehow
it has come to our attention that she wants to
be a doctor, or she loves doctors, or she wants
doctor stuff. Does that sound right?
Speaker 2 (07:23):
Yeah? So she's been spending a lot of time at
the hospital with us, and all the nurses call her
nurse doing.
Speaker 1 (07:30):
Oh I love that. Well, we've got for her a
baby doctor set. We got some baby clothes. We got
a Melissa and Doug ee exam set, Melissa and Doug
booboo and bandage play set, and a giggle Scape doctor playset,
so nurse June will look like nurse too.
Speaker 2 (07:49):
Yeah, and some of the things.
Speaker 1 (07:51):
And we're doing a Christmas wish right now for a family.
Are you guys now you living? Brainerd You drive the
three and a half hour drive like a couple all
the times a week.
Speaker 2 (08:02):
Yeah, we drive quite a bit. I'm not quite sure
how many times. It really depends on the weekend his
chemo schedule or if he needs transfusions or if he
gets sick, but we so, yeah, it really depends but well,
(08:22):
we want to help out with that.
Speaker 1 (08:23):
We got a one hundred and one dollar gas card
from Holiday station stores and just a reminder for every
fuel purchase now through December seventeenth, Holidays donating a portion
of sales to Christmas Wish. Here's some other things for
the whole family. Let's let's start off with you, Whitney.
We've got you a two hundred dollars gift card to
Sanctuary Salon Spa, so when you get time and hopefully
(08:45):
you'll get time to yourself sometime down the road, we
will get you the Sanctuary Salon Spa. We've got some
just some fun self care stuff and a cookbook came
up in this whole bunch for some reason, so I
hope you enjoyed that. And for Greg, Greg he's into
hunting and fishing and grilling and stuff like that. Right, Yeah,
(09:07):
we're gonna send him to Shields to go crazy with
a five hundred dollars gift card to get whatever he wants.
So just to and the reason does he need this?
We just want to cheer him up. Yeah, we just
want to, you know, like take the focus away from
all of the hard things that are going on and
send him to Shields to get stuff. Yeah, him and
Dawson can go buck wild and Shields absolutely love that.
(09:29):
And we've also got for your family a three hundred
dollars cub Foods gift card. Broadway Pizza donated one hundred
dollars gift card for your family. And also for the family,
there's a bunch of other stuff, some art stuff because
it sounds like your family's kind of into artsy craftsy
kind of stuff. Yeah. Yeah, we got a bunch of
that for you when we got some board games and
so we got a lot of stuff to just kind
of load into the house to kind of cheer everybody up,
(09:52):
but also to let you know how loved and supported
you are. And I'm a parent, and there's so many
parents that are listening, and I'm going to guess that
you never, in your wildest dreams imagined a year ago
what life would be like right now.
Speaker 2 (10:11):
Yeah.
Speaker 1 (10:13):
Never, never, never know, And it's something that no parents
should ever have to go through. But here you are,
and I want to let you know how loved and
supported your family is. And this is just something we
wanted to do to let to show that love and support.
And I'm going to let you say goodbye right now
to your friend or actually sister in law, Christine before
we wrap up Christmas wish Christine Hilett.
Speaker 2 (10:36):
Hey, thank you so much. Christine. Means a lot. Thank
you everybody. This is really really generous in it means
a lot to our family. If I could just gonna
ask for prayers for everybody for Dawtin from his scans
yesterday and he just finished scheme all so these cans
(11:02):
are a big deal. So if everybody could do that,
that's listening, we would really appreciate that.
Speaker 1 (11:07):
Absolutely.
Speaker 2 (11:07):
Again, welcome and you and everybody, Dave and everybody there.
Speaker 1 (11:14):
Whitney, God bless you and your family, and thank you
for being on KTWB. And we'll check in to see
how little Dawson is doing. And also Nurse June and
Elliot too.
Speaker 2 (11:24):
So yeah, thank you so much.
Speaker 1 (11:27):
You take care. That is Christmas wish on KATBB. And
I think one thing that if you're a parent, I
just want you to imagine you got an eight year old,
you get a six year old, you get a ten
year old, and today they're getting ready for school and
they can't find their shoes and they got mismatched socks
and they're cranky and whatever, how blessed you are to
(11:49):
have a child at home that the worst thing they
got right now is the sniffles and a bad attitude.
And think about what this little thing family is going through.
You should never put the words eight year old and
chemo in the same sentence. And if you don't have that,
you are very blessed. And I hope and I will
(12:11):
absolutely utilize that to hopefully get you to feel prompted
to donate, inspired, inspired daily thank you to donate to
Christmas Wish with wish or ktwbat dot com slash wish.
And it's a great day to do it because Treasure Island,
God love them. They are also matching your donation, So
(12:31):
if you feel inspired, this is a great time to
do it. Let's load, let's crash that website. Let's do it.
