Speaker 1 (00:00):
Believe in the magic of the holidays. Dave Ryan's Christmas wish.
Let's get to today's Christmas wish from somebody who actually
won a razor phone from katiew be a long time ago, Belinda,
How did you win a razor phone? And when did
you win this razor phone?

Speaker 2 (00:15):
Gosh, it was back when Corey Foley used to be here,
so it's probably been.

Speaker 1 (00:22):
Yeah, she was here from three to seven, so twenty
ish years or so. How did you win a Raizor phone?

Speaker 2 (00:29):
It was the Saint Patti's Day contest, and so it
was that one of the restaurants in Bloomington.

Speaker 1 (00:34):
I honestly can't even remember the name at the time.

Speaker 2 (00:35):
Yeah, but my brother was really needing a phone at
the time, and I remember hearing about it on the
radio and I was like, I'm gonna go win that phone.
I'm putting it out there, I'm going to go get it.
And so I went. I went to the event. It
was like early in the morning, and I happened to
get chosen for the contest. I answered all the questions
correctly about Corey Foley thinking to her dog or something

(00:57):
like that along the lines, and I happened to pick
the right door in on the phone. Wow.

Speaker 1 (01:01):
Wow, look at that. I'm so glad that It's funny
how Katie wigb has kind of woven into the fabric
of so many people's lives, whether they've won a car
or a phone, or a T shirt or a CD
or just listen to the show or whatever. That is
super cool. You probably didn't expect yourself to ever be
on Christmas Wish.

Speaker 2 (01:20):
No, I've been listening for a long time, and thankfully
I didn't have a need to ever nominate anyone. And
so I've been trying to think about my friend and
trying to think about something meaningful for her for a
few months now, and then when I heard about Christmas Wish,
it just like retriggered that as a possible option. So
I just figured I would submit a nomination and see
what happens.

Speaker 1 (01:40):
We're gonna call your friend Sarah here in a minute,
but I want to check in with our boy Brandon
from college muscle movers. Brandon, what's up? Thanks for doing
this again? Good morning. How many years have you done this? Brandon?
Let's be year four? Year number four. Brandon gets up
early on in his own time, dryves out all these

(02:01):
different wishes with boxes full of stuff, whether it's a
laundry basket full of stuff or a box of stuff
or gift cards or whatever. Brandon, thank you for what
you do. We really appreciate you and your team over
at College Muscle Movers. Of course, if you are moving,
make sure you keep in mind College Muscle Movers and

(02:22):
be like, hey, you're Brandon. I heard you on the radio.
I heard you on the radio. All right, here we go.
Let's call Sarah right now.

Speaker 3 (02:30):
So Sarah and you know each other because your kids
play a softball corrector Yes, that's Brad. Yeah, okay, and
so you've known her for a couple of years now.

Speaker 2 (02:38):
Yeah, well our daughters who have played together for three
seasons now, got it all right.

Speaker 3 (02:44):
I love how friendship forms from things like that, like
your softball leagues.

Speaker 1 (02:47):
Your kids are in soft all together. And because we
do these live you never know if they're going to
answer the phone. We always tell, you know, we always
try to set it up so they will answer the phone,
but sometimes they don't. And that's when Brandon comes in
and goes to knocks on the door. All right, Brandon,
let's get Brandon on the phone. Here Brandon. You are

(03:09):
on duty, Brandon. How long will it take you to
walk to the front door and ring the doorbell? Brandon,
I'm just getting parked right now. I'm getting parked right now. Okay,
So we give you a little mascara alert. You never
know what's going to happen during Christmas wish. But while
we're waiting for Brandon to get to the front door,
and that's our backup plan, is for him to knock
on the door, ring the doorbell. I want to thank
a couple of sponsors. First of all, yesterday we raised

(03:32):
during match day fifteen thousand dollars. That's before the match,
and we were hoping yesterday to maybe get ten thousand
dollars in our wildest dreams, fifteen thousand dollars. Yes, the
power of radio and the power of this big old
radio station and the people who listen to it. Wow,
that is amazing.

Speaker 3 (03:52):
Thank you so much for donating.

Speaker 1 (03:54):
Yes, absolutely, And then thank also to Treasure Island Resort
and casino and a holiday station store. And oh wait,
I heard a knock. Are you knocking? Brandon? Okay? The gate?

Speaker 3 (04:07):
Okay, there's a little gate situation. He's got to get
through that Belinda was telling me.

Speaker 1 (04:11):
About imagine getting a knock on your door at seven
ten in the more, I'd be nervous. This is the
great thing. This is what happens Christmas. We live is
this is think about Christmas race live. We do it
completely live as you can tell.

Speaker 4 (04:29):
Hey, oh.

Speaker 1 (04:34):
Hello, Hello is this Sarah? Yeah, Sarah, good morning. This
is Dave Ryan over at Katie WB. We're on the
air right now and we are here with your friend Belinda,
so you'll believe me.

Speaker 4 (04:47):
Say hi Belinda, Hey Sarah, Hi Belinda.

Speaker 1 (04:52):
I'm sorry about the ruckus trying to get into the
house this morning, but that is Brandon from college muscle Movers.
Would you have any idea why we might be calling
you today?

Speaker 4 (05:01):
I have no idea, no idea.

Speaker 1 (05:04):
Well, we're about to tell you. We do something on
Katie WB. We've done it for years and it's called
Christmas Wish, where we ask for people to tell us
about a family that might be struggling for whatever reason
this year. And your friend Belinda talk to us about
you and your challenges for this year. And she wrote

(05:25):
us a letter. Have you got a minute? I know
it's kind of unexpected. Have you got a minute? To
hear her letter. Yeah, okay, whenever you're ready, Belinda, Okay.

Speaker 2 (05:34):
Dear the Dave Ryan Morning Show or show, I would
like to nominate my friend Sarah and her daughter's Kaylee
five Kiera nine for Dave Ryan's Christmas Wish. In May
of this year, Sarah's fiance, Danny, passed away suddenly and
unexpectedly in his sleep at the age of thirty two.
Danny was the kind of dad who poured his heart
into everything he did, especially when it came to his daughters.

(05:57):
He loved them both fiercely. Kiley was his only a
biological child, but he never treated Kia as anything less than.

Speaker 1 (06:04):
His own blood.

Speaker 2 (06:05):
Kiera didn't even know that he wasn't her biological dad
until after his death, and she simply said, he's my dad.
That statement encapsulates the deep bond they shared. Danny coached
three seasons of Kia's softball team and a season of
soccer for Kaylee. He was a constant presence in their lives,
always there, always loving and caring. Since Danny's passing, Sarah

(06:27):
has done everything she can to support her daughters and
navigate their grief, all while managing her own heartache. She
gave up her job working nights and found a job
at their school so she could be closer to her daughters,
who now struggle with anxiety and fear of due to
their loss. Even the thought of something as simple as
trick or treating became overwhelming for Kira because every time

(06:49):
she hears scream, she instantly thinks the worst. Sarah has
remained strong, not for her daughters, but oh for herself
as well. She has stepped outside of her natural introversion
to connect with people in the community to maintain the
relationships Danny started so their daughters still have a network.
Danny was in the process of remodeling their home when
he passed away, focusing on the girl's bedroom first. Sarah

(07:13):
is doing everything she can to carry out his work,
but finishing the rooms has become hard to prioritize without
the income support she once had. This Christmas, my wish
is to help ease the pain of going through their
first Christmas without Danny. I would love for them to
have a weekend get away to a hotel at the
water park where they can unwind and have fun, or alternatively,
a gift card to a home improvement store. So Sarah

(07:37):
can finish the girl's bedroom, the project that Danny started,
giving them a space to feel connected to the memories
of their dad. I would greatly appreciate your consideration in
granting this wish for Sarah, Kaylee, and Kira. They deserve
a Christmas filled with joy, love, and a little.

Speaker 1 (07:52):
Bit of healing.

Speaker 2 (07:54):
Much love from all the Coon Rapids, fash pitch softball moms.

Speaker 1 (07:57):
Ah, that's great.

Speaker 4 (08:00):
That was so sweet, Sarah.

Speaker 1 (08:04):
I think there's a lot of people who love and
support you and and your Your husband was only thirty
two when he passed, is that right?

Speaker 4 (08:13):
Yes?

Speaker 1 (08:14):
Thirty two Yeah, and left behind a little girl. And
let me tell you something, little girls, if everything's going right,
little girls love their dads so much until they're about twelve.
Then it's a different And how old is is Kaylee?

Speaker 4 (08:34):
Kaylee is five and Kira is nine, so they and
and he treated Kiara just like his own daughter.

Speaker 1 (08:43):
Coached what coach softball? Is that right? Coach or softball team?

Speaker 4 (08:46):
Yeah? She plays softball because of him. He played softball
all his life and he was so happy when she
started playing.

Speaker 1 (08:54):
I'm so sorry for your loss. I'm so sorry for
your girls, but we with Christmas wish. We just try
to throw a little joy in there to make things
a little bit easier and also to let you know
that you're loved and cared about and supported. So let's
start up with some things for Let's start off with

Speaker 4 (10:48):
Her name is Lily.

Speaker 1 (10:50):
She sounds like a yellow lab. Was that a yellow lab?

Speaker 4 (10:53):
Yes?

Speaker 1 (10:54):
Whoa? That was crazy A gift again, So we got
Lily the yellow Lab, A bunch of dog trees and
toys and a kong and the rope that you chew
on and all that stuff. So that's for for Lily too,
and then for you just and this is all just
you know, because we just want to spread some love

(11:15):
and show you that you're loved and supported. So for you, Mom, Sarah,
we got one hundred dollars one hundred one dollar gas

every fuel purchase now through December seventeenth, they're donating a
portion of sales to Christmas Wish. One hundred dollars gift

even ask them. Broadway Pizza just wrote in and said, hey,

(11:38):
here's a stack one hundred dollars gift cards given to
your Christmas Wish people. Three hundred dollars athleta gift card. Okay,
and you've done. Tell me a little bit about like
the home repairs and the remodeling and painting around the house.

Speaker 4 (11:53):
Well, we my daughter wanted to like switch her room
like a year and a half after we moved in here,
so we had an extra room downstairs, and we had
started like taking the old paint off and like fixing
the trimmings and stuff, and we got about like three
fourths of it painted before he passed away, and it's

(12:17):
just for me to do on my own. It's just
been a lot of work, even just trying to like
finish setting that room up, or like even moving all
of her furniture over.

Speaker 1 (12:29):
I understand. Well, to help you out a little bit,
we've got a five hundred dollars Home Depot gift card
or whatever paint supplies, ladders, brushes, whatever you need for
five hundred dollars from Home Depot. Your friend Belinda mentioned
that it would be fun for you and the girls to
go off to a water park and a hotel for
the weekend. Well, guess what Treasure Island has got that

(12:53):
set up for you. It is a two night staycation package,
two hotel rooms for Yeah, they got a water park
down there that's just awesome. It's called the Lagoon Lagoon
water Park. We have passes for both nights. We're going
to send you bowling to go bowling down there, and
we got two hundred dollars to buy fattening snacks while
you're down. So this is and this is all part

(13:16):
of the Christmas wish, just to kind of cheer up
the girls. And I know that you're busy and times
are tight, and I want to tell you something right now,
if we ask for people to volunteer to go over
and finish that paint job, I know we get them.
I know we get them. I'm volunteering. Fond. Yeah, this
is really good. But the podcast want will come over.
But we just want to give you a little love
and a little support for your holiday and for you

(13:38):
and for the girls.

Speaker 4 (13:38):
Okay, oh my, thank you so much.

Speaker 1 (13:42):
You're so welcome. We're so sorry for your sudden loss.
I mean, we can't even imagine what a hard loss
that is, but there are so many people that support
you and and we want to thank Belinda, who is
crying right now, for letting us know about your wish.
And I'll let you say goodbye to Melinda.
