Speaker 1 (00:00):
It's time for another Dave Ryan Show Christmas Wish.

Speaker 2 (00:04):
I'm kinda sad that we're doing the last Christmas Wish,
but at the same time, I feel really good about
all the people that we have been able to help
with your help for Christmas Wish, So thank you so much.

Speaker 1 (00:16):
Let's do one more.

Speaker 2 (00:16):
It's different and we do this every year because one
of our big sponsor not sponsors partners is Youth Link
and Youth Link. I'm gonna instead of me telling you
what youth Link is, I'm gonna let the senior director
of programs, Shanika tell us about youth Link. And I
think we've got Shanika on the phone right now. Good morning, Good.

Speaker 3 (00:36):
Morning, how are you. I'm doing well. How are you?

Speaker 2 (00:40):
I'm good. This is our final Christmas Wish, shinikin before
we get started. Thanks to everything that you guys have
done and helping homeless youth and helping us do this
as a tax deductible donation, and we're gonna find let's
start in, Shanika, if you can tell us what youth
Link is and what you do.

Speaker 3 (01:02):
Absolutely you Flink. We are a drop in center that
supports young people ages sixteen through twenty four that is
experiencing homelessness in the Twin Cities, and.

Speaker 2 (01:16):
There's a lot more than we thought because I think
I've heard there are thousands at any given time.

Speaker 1 (01:20):
Is that true?

Speaker 3 (01:22):
That is absolutely true at any given night?

Speaker 2 (01:24):
Wow?

Speaker 1 (01:25):
Wow?

Speaker 2 (01:25):
Okay, So what do you do to help these people
that really they're going from couch to couch and maybe
they don't have anywhere to go.

Speaker 3 (01:32):
That is such a wonderful question. So you've flink. We
consider ourselves that one stop shop for young people who knew.

Speaker 4 (01:41):
Who need access to like basic needs, and so we
provide a hot meal.

Speaker 3 (01:46):
A shower, clothing, case management services to support a young
person if they're needing to access housing, employment, and education.
And we also serve our family, so we get to
see the kiddos come in and really supporting young people
as they're navigating homelessness.

Speaker 2 (02:09):
So you can't even imagine. Again, we look at Christmas wish, Shanika,
and most of us, you know, we've never been in
a situation where we would need a Christmas wish. Most
of us have never had to navigate homelessness, and a
lot of us don't know anybody who's homeless. But there's
all kinds of situations. You know, when we were sixteen,
we argued with mom and dad or whatever, when you

(02:30):
go to your room, slam your door and watch TV
and you get over it. But a lot of kids
they have situations that they just cannot tolerate.

Speaker 3 (02:39):
Very true, and we provide that really safe and warm
place for young people so that if any of those
things happen, like we really can get their basic needs
met immediately, because we also have on site housing and
scattered site housings, and so we want to make sure

(02:59):
that when young people such as in these cold temperatures,
that they have a place where they feel really safe,
really heard, wanted, and we just want to make sure
that at some point, like we can normalize them being
you know, sixteen again, because that's taken away when you're
trying to find a place to stay warm in space.

Speaker 2 (03:21):
Can you imagine can you even imagine being a sixteen,
seventeen year old or a twenty four year old, Yeah,
trying to stay warm on a cold Minnesota winter and
trying to find a place to stay and trying to
find food to eat. Well, this is what we wanted
to do because we're so like, I don't know, supportive
and happy with what you do.

Speaker 1 (03:37):
So appreciative is the word I look for. I'm looking for.

Speaker 2 (03:40):
So we want to like load you guys up with
some of the things that we've heard that you need.

Speaker 1 (03:45):
Let's do a checklist. You tell me whether you need
them or not. Okay, sure, all right, here we go.
Baby whites very much, so we need it.

Speaker 2 (03:53):
Okay, because we heard you had nun in stock, we
got you twelve cases, eighty four total packages of whites
to help out. Men's winter coats do you need those?

Speaker 3 (04:03):
Absolutely? Okay, absolutely, We.

Speaker 2 (04:06):
Got twenty of those, ranging from small the double XL.
What about women's winter coachs A little bit use for those.

Speaker 4 (04:11):
Two absolutely yes, going to say yes.

Speaker 2 (04:15):
I think you will say yes to both of these, Shanika,
twenty of those from small to double X. We got
twenty pairs of men's winter gloves, twenty pairs of women's
winter gloves. We got some of those you heard those
hot hand handwarmers, those things on the inside the gloves. Yes,
you got a whole case of those. A bunch of
those winter boots for men, men's winter boots, and they

(04:37):
can come in obviously there's no charge or obligation you
come in. It's like, God, I'm walking around a pair
of beat up nikes. I need to winter boots. So
we got men's and wintered women's winter boots and different sizes.
Nobody thinks about this one.

Speaker 1 (04:51):
Underpants, Oh gosh, yeah, imagine not having those.

Speaker 3 (04:55):
Yeah, right, definitely definitely need those.

Speaker 4 (04:57):
I mean, we want to make sure that are.

Speaker 3 (04:59):
You young people are clean and comfortable.

Speaker 2 (05:02):
Because a lot of kids, if I get this right,
and not all of them, but a lot of them
leave suddenly without a lot. They're just wearing the clothes
they've got and what's in their pocket. And that's really
kind of it.

Speaker 3 (05:12):
Right, you are correct.

Speaker 4 (05:14):
I mean, when they have to go, they have to go,
and so when.

Speaker 3 (05:17):
They do, they're leaving majority of.

Speaker 4 (05:20):
Their belongings with where they laid their head, you know,
last night. And we also solve young people that are
in these encampments and so when you gotta go, you
gotta go.

Speaker 2 (05:31):
Yeah, we got a fifty pair of men's underwear, fifty
pair of women's underwear, and those are just some of
the things to help out with what you do and
the work that you do. Shanika and your friends and
partners and your team over at youth Link. Where are
you guys located in the Twin Cities. What suburb are
you in?

Speaker 4 (05:50):
We're in the Twin Cities, like really close to like downtown.

Speaker 1 (05:53):
Okay, well, a.

Speaker 3 (05:54):
Young person really has easy access on the bus to
really get to us.

Speaker 1 (06:00):
Okay, awesome.

Speaker 2 (06:02):
So if there's anybody who is experiencing homelessness, and it's
very possible that there's somebody listening right now, or you
know somebody or somebody who spent the night on your
couch or a friend, let them.

Speaker 1 (06:11):
Know about youth Link.

Speaker 2 (06:12):
We want you guys to have some fun too, So
Broadway Pizzas donated a pizza party to you guys. We
got a two hundred dollars gift card. Everybody loves pizza.
What's your favorite pizza, Shanika. What is on your ideal pizza.

Speaker 3 (06:22):
Shanika, paperoni with extra cheese, a little bit of mushroom,
some olives, and I would be good with the Coca Cola.

Speaker 2 (06:33):
We got a pizza party for you guys, and then
we've gotten this is super cool and I'm so happy
that Holiday heard about this because they have donated not one,
not two, not three, but fifteen one hundred one dollars
gas cards from Holiday station stores. Now that is for
your people who need to run errands, who need to
pick something up, and it's not just four gas. They

(06:55):
can get anything over at holiday with this one. So
this is I hope this will help out with your
with the work that you do.

Speaker 1 (07:04):
A lot of it is like you know you it is.

Speaker 2 (07:07):
It's not I want to want to say a thankless job,
but it is a hard job and I'm sure that
there are challenges with this and we just want to
make it a little bit easier and some support for
all the work you do.

Speaker 4 (07:20):
Well.

Speaker 3 (07:20):
We are definitely appreciative and the young people have been
appreciative of all the support that you all have been
able to give youth Link within the last couple of years.
So we're grateful, really grateful and honored.

Speaker 1 (07:35):
What a great partnership.

Speaker 2 (07:36):
Seriously, because we get to help you guys out, you
get to help us out. We help get the word
out for you guys. And and because of youth Link
we've partnered that is a five ozho one to three
c charity, so big gifts and this is important when
people give it like a twenty five hundred dollars gift
that is tax deductible. People don't give gifts because it's
tax deductible. They give because they want.

Speaker 1 (07:55):
Yeah, it's just a benefit. It's a benefit.

Speaker 2 (07:58):
Hey, Shanika, thanks for doing what you do. And this
will all be delivered and we'll get y'all taken care of.
And thanks for being a great partner. And Merry Christmas,
Happy holidays to you and everybody over at youth Link.

Speaker 3 (08:10):
Thank you so much on the same to you all.

Speaker 1 (08:12):
Thank you, Shaniki. You take care. We'll talk to you
next year.

Speaker 4 (08:14):
Okay, okay, thank you, Okay, bye bye.

Speaker 2 (08:17):
Hey, I'm gonna give some thank yous right now, first
of all, because this is our last Christmas wish and
I want to thank all of our amazing partners, Holiday
Station Stores remember this season give more with Holiday Station
storage gift cards. What a great gift. Who doesn't need gas?
And some Reese's peanut butter cups from Holiday Station Stores.
Right you can probably run in and get a red

(08:38):
Bull like two for three dollars or something.

Speaker 1 (08:40):
Was it a deal again? Right now they're doing Monster
Energy's buy to get one, Yes.

Speaker 2 (08:46):
It is, and by now and help fight childhood hunger
a portion of every card sold goes to no Kid Hungry,
So spread joy and make a difference. Holiday station stores
gift cards the gift that truly gives back. Want to thank,
of course Treasure Island Resort and Casino for their partnership
over the years, the TI bonuses, the match donations. We

(09:10):
could have done it without you guys. So a special
thank you to the Prairie Island Indian community for their
continued support of Christmas wish. I want to mention a
little throw throw this in. They're doing something really cool
on New Year's Eve. So if you don't want to
watch Ryan Seacrest, I've got another idea for you. Well,
I got some other ideas. Let me just find it here.
I'll scroll down to it. They're doing a big dance

(09:30):
party on New Year's Eve a Treasure Island.

Speaker 1 (09:32):
Is it in like an eightiesing or something. It's like
the decades.

Speaker 2 (09:34):
So yeah, they'll have seventies, eighties, nineties, and they have
like DJ Bob and they do a countdown and a
champagne toast. So if you're not doing anything on New
Year's Eve, and if you want to do something memorable
and fun, go down to the Islands ten bucks to
get in ten bucks. Wow, it is way cheaper than
you're gonna find most places to get in for New
Year's Seve well big time. And if you want to
book a room spend the night, you can do that too.

(09:56):
Treasure Island is doing that. You can buy the tickets
online Ti Casino dot com, I'm or buy him at
the door seven to midnight on New Year's Eve. Thanks
again to Brandon and everybody at College Muscle Movers. You
deliver every wish like you were Santa, and we can't
thank enough for creating the memories for everybody who got
a Christmas wish this year. Best Movers in Minnesota, Christina

(10:18):

managing our Christmas Wish account. You're always there when we
need you. Thank you to Choice Bank Youth Link. Of course,
we appreciate all of what you've done. Every Minnesota business
that donated this year, everybody from Woodhouse Spa, Crisp and Green,
Broadway Pizza, Mall of America, Warner Stallion, Miracle at Big Rock, YMCA,

Great Clips, Minnesota wild Craft and Crew Restaurants, patron Points
in Woodberry Wedding Day Diamonds don't forget its engagement season,
so you want to get that ring. Get the best
from Wedding Day Diamonds True by Hilton and Home two suits.
And biggest thank you, of course goes to U you
for listening. If you donated a special thanks to you.

(11:05):
But if you didn't donate it and you just listened,
we appreciate the support and donating the money to the
families makes all the difference in the world. Basically, you're
changing people's lives from very down to a little glimmer
of hope. And what we'd like to say is this
might be the first good news that the family has
gotten in a really long time. With food and clothing,

(11:28):
furniture and toys, day to day stuff that a lot
of these families are struggling to either get afford or
have time to take care of themselves. So thanks for
your loyalty, your donations and for listening to KATIEWB.

Speaker 1 (11:45):
We love you.

Speaker 2 (11:47):
Thank you very much, and happy holidays from kd WB
