Speaker 2 (00:04):
And here we are live with Christmas Wish on Tuesday
at eight o nine. In case you're wondering some of
the ought, to be honest with you, sometimes we replay
these because not everybody gets to listen when we're doing
a wish live, So sometimes we replay them and you
can watch the wish and actually see our wisher and
everything happen on YouTube on the Dave Ryan Show channel,

(00:25):
So go check that out. I got to do a
couple of We've got a pre game a little bit here,
prap up for this because we've got to make sure
everything's set to go. First of all, from College Muscle Movers, Brandon,
are you in position?

Speaker 3 (00:37):
I am?

Speaker 1 (00:37):
Indeed, there he is, Brandon.

Speaker 2 (00:40):
I'm picturing you in a big giant moving truck with
a picture of you carrying a couch on the side.

Speaker 1 (00:45):
Am I close to this at all?

Speaker 3 (00:47):
All?

Speaker 4 (00:48):
Right?

Speaker 2 (00:48):
Sometime Brandon and College Muscle Movers, thank you for helping out.
If you're moving, whether it's soon or next year or anytime,
remember the moving come but that helps out with Christmas
Wish and really loves to give back to the community
College muscle movers. Brandon, thanks for all you do and
stand by in case we need you. Okay, Oko, thank you,

(01:12):
my friend.

Speaker 1 (01:12):
Please hold here in the studio. Is Katie.

Speaker 2 (01:16):
Good morning, Katie, Good morning, Katie's been listening to Katie
will be for a very long time my entire life.
And you want to give a shout out to before
we get started, because you have a lot of your
people are listening this morning.

Speaker 3 (01:27):
I got to say how to my girls. Good morning,
Fiona and Addison and Aurora.

Speaker 5 (01:31):
Have a good day. Earle is love you.

Speaker 2 (01:33):
Okay, so we're going to make the phone call to
your friend who is getting the Christmas wish this morning?

Speaker 1 (01:40):
Who is your friend?

Speaker 2 (01:41):
And tell me just a little bit without reading the
whole letter, tell me a little bit about mel It's mouth.

Speaker 5 (01:46):
She is my coworker.

Speaker 3 (01:47):
I've known her for about two and a half years,
and she is the type of person who takes care
of everybody else everybody, I mean her entire family or sister.
She's always looking out forever about it and no one,
you know, doesn't have anyone to look out for her.

Speaker 2 (02:03):
And a lot of people are like that. They're like
they put themselves last all the time, and then sometimes
it's like, hey, you need a little something, a little assistance,
a little help, a little support, And so that's where
you nominated her for Christmas wish. All right, we're gonna
call her right now. She probably has no idea that
we're calling. No, she does, an emotional young lady. That's okay.

(02:30):
So we're gonna call Mel right now. And by the way,
Brandon is outside of her house to deliver this wish
and also kind of be our backup in case she
doesn't answer, because we never know what's going to happen
on Christmas wish. But we're gonna make that phone call
right now.

Speaker 5 (02:42):
Any long have you worked with me? About two and
a half years?

Speaker 6 (02:45):
Okay, nice, and you get Do you have to work
closely with her?

Speaker 5 (02:49):
We are about as far as we are right. Yes,
it's super close.

Speaker 4 (02:52):
You know.

Speaker 6 (02:52):
People have their work like best friends their work wives.

Speaker 3 (02:55):
I work.

Speaker 5 (02:58):
Yeah, that makes sense.

Speaker 3 (02:59):
Yeah, I'm probably more time with her than anyone. So
it's hard keeping the cigarette.

Speaker 5 (03:03):
I feel that about Dave. Wait, he's your work mom?

Speaker 1 (03:12):
Hello? Hi is this Mel?

Speaker 2 (03:16):
Yes, Hi Mail, It's Dave Ryan from kd WB Radio.

Speaker 4 (03:21):
How are you, Good morning, Ryan? How are you?

Speaker 2 (03:26):
Would you have any idea at all, Mail why we
might be calling you on the radio this morning.

Speaker 4 (03:32):
I'm not sure.

Speaker 2 (03:34):
Okay, well, I think we have some good news for you.
First of all, say hi to your friend Katie, who
is standing here, sitting here in the KATBB studio.

Speaker 4 (03:42):
Good morning, Matt, Katie. When I saw that, I'm like,
hell a little suspicions. Only one person I know that
knows Dave Ryan.

Speaker 2 (03:52):
We're pretty we met at the mall four months ago.

Speaker 4 (03:57):
Let's hurt thank you, good morning.

Speaker 2 (04:00):
Now what we do in Merry Christmas? We do this
every year on Katie. Would you be and maybe you're familiar.
Some people are, some people aren't. His Christmas wish and
what Katie has done is written in a nomination for
you to me help out with your Christmas a little
bit this year. So let's get started, Katie, if you will,
Katie's going to read the letter that she wrote to

(04:21):
us about you.

Speaker 4 (04:22):
Okay, okay, okay.

Speaker 3 (04:26):
I am nominating my coworker mel for Christmas Wish. Mela
is one of the most caring, patient, for giving, and
kind hearted people I've ever met. She fiercely loves her
family and friends and works incredibly hard to make sure
they are all taken care of. When Mala was a teenager,
her sister suffered from a brain aneurysm, resulting in a
permanent traumatic brain injury. Mel has helped her with day

(04:47):
to day life ever since. When she married Jeff, she
took on his three children who have lost their mother,
as her own. She and Jeff have one child together
named Kylie. Kylie and Kylie and her son Ammet live
with Jeff. Altogether at Mel and Jeff have nine grandkids.
Five years ago, Jeff was in a motorcycle accident that
he almost did not survive. The accident left him with

(05:09):
a traumatic brain injury, chronic pain, and the inability to work.
This left Mel and Kylie as the only source of
income for the household. In early October, Kylie fell out
of a golf cart. She was severely injured and had
to be rushed to the hospital. She broke her ankle,
nose and suffered a head injury. This has left her
unable to work for the foreseeable future. Mel is now

(05:30):
the only source of income for the household and is
unable to work her full hours due to bringing Emmett
two and from school and Kylie to and from all
of her physical therapy and doctor's appointments. The financial strain
is causing her stress that she does not.

Speaker 1 (05:43):
Need right now.

Speaker 5 (05:44):
However, you would never know it.

Speaker 3 (05:45):
With all this going on, she still shows up every
day with a positive attitude and goes out of her
way to help others. She never complains and always finds
good in everyone and everything. I truly don't know anyone
who deserves this more. I am beyond grateful that Katie
don't he chose to help this amazing lady and her family.
I just want her to have the amazing Christmas she deserves.

Speaker 1 (06:09):
Wow, I love you. I love you too, so many things,
so many things.

Speaker 2 (06:14):
I mean, first of all, your your sister that you
have taken care of with her aneurysm, and she still
she still lives with you.

Speaker 4 (06:24):
No, she actually is able to live on her own.
So she's you know, she she's survived pretty well. She's
has issues, but don't we.

Speaker 2 (06:32):
All Okay, So then let's move on to Jeff was
in a motorcycle accident and he is unable to work.

Speaker 4 (06:40):
Yeah. Yeah, he actually had two back surgeries five years apart.
So that loved him having to go pretty much more
for retires.

Speaker 2 (06:50):
So yeah, and then Kyleie fell out of a golf
cart and so.

Speaker 4 (06:57):
It's not as it's not as fun as it sounds.

Speaker 2 (07:00):
No one sounds fun at all. And she's not able
to work for the foreseeable future. So you are the
source of income for how many people that are you, like,
are living.

Speaker 1 (07:10):
Your home right now?

Speaker 4 (07:12):
Four of us?

Speaker 2 (07:12):
Okay, four of you, but you've got nine grandkids I have. Okay, Well,
we wanted to help make Christmas a little bit brighter
for you and your family. And I will tell you
just a tip of the hat to you for being
one of those wonderful people that puts yourself after everybody else.
And that's one of the first things that Katie said
is that you just it's your nature to think about

(07:35):
how everybody else is doing.

Speaker 1 (07:36):
Well.

Speaker 2 (07:37):
We want to help you have a little bit brighter
and easier of a Christmas with Christmas Wish. So Christmas
Wish is basically going to gift you and your family
with stuff things for Christmas. Let's talk about we're going
to go through like first of all, for the family.
We're just going to dive right in for your family.

(07:59):
We got a two hundred dollar or Cub Foods gift
card that is yours and I love this part. Nine
grandkids for each one of them from Grandma Mel. Each
one is going to get a one hundred dollars Target
gift card for Christmas. For each of the grandkids, a

(08:44):

that true?

Speaker 4 (08:48):

or it's going to lose its value. But as for him,
And then the twenty twenty four Tops Heritage Baseball Retail
Value box with seventy two cards and then a sports
card binder collectible trading card album that holds nine hundred cards.
They've been ordered there on the way to the house.
Check the mailbox later today.

Speaker 4 (09:17):
Okay, he'll be sitting there for four hours, which is
fine because his brain, his brain enjoys that.

Speaker 1 (09:23):
I love that.

Speaker 2 (09:24):
We've got some other things for him too, with like
a three hundred dollars We got a three hundred dollars
Home Depot gift card because a lot of people love
to go down to Home Depot and buy stuff.

Speaker 5 (09:37):
Yeah, dropping down the asand drill.

Speaker 2 (09:41):
Kylie is the one that fell out of a golf
card and we're not making light of that at all.
But we've got heard some things too. We got her
some clothing and some pj's and super comfy throw blanket,
one hundred dollars Uber Eats gift card for Kylie and
one hundred dollars Target gift card for Kylie too.

Speaker 4 (09:57):
Well, you guys, and then.

Speaker 1 (09:59):
His Emmett lives with you. Is that right? And he's eight?

Speaker 4 (10:05):
He's eight.

Speaker 1 (10:06):
Okay. I wanted to get him a drum set, but
nobody would let me do that.

Speaker 4 (10:11):
Yeah, I appreciate I appreciate that thing.

Speaker 1 (10:14):
They wouldn't let me do it, but we got him a.

Speaker 4 (10:16):
Bunch of drive me over the edge. I know.

Speaker 2 (10:20):
We got a fifty dollars v Bucks gift card, a
Roebucks gift card, Lego Motorsports, sets, hot wheels, eight pack,
just some cool stuff for Emmett.

Speaker 1 (10:28):
And then we don't want to do something, we want
to do something for you as well.

Speaker 2 (10:32):
So we've got you some clothing and some shoes and
one hundred dollars Target gift card. You're an Usher fan,
is this true?

Speaker 1 (10:42):
Yes, we got for.

Speaker 2 (10:45):
You an Usher Past Present Future tour hoodie. It's going
to be ordered and shipped to your home, so that
we've got that for you.

Speaker 4 (10:56):
Oh Jesus, that's a good.

Speaker 2 (11:00):
And then we've got also, this is really cool. It
is a one hundred dollars gift card to Woodhouse Spa.
So they got three locations and whenever you get a chance,
you can go to Woodhouse Spaw and just have a
spa day. Thanks to Woodhouse Spa for a generous donation.
If you're looking for a holiday gift idea, check out
Woodhouse Spas.

Speaker 1 (11:19):
Wow, I think that's right.

Speaker 2 (11:21):
Woodhouse Yes, woodhouse Spas dot com it's misspelled on my
little so that's okay. So we got all these things
for you and the family, just to make make things
a little bit easier because you have been through a lot.

Speaker 4 (13:48):
But they're not sure they can fit stupid, lazy and
ugly with.

Speaker 5 (13:53):
That hairy show on kt w B.

Speaker 1 (13:57):
Why is that necessary? Stop that necessary? Stupid ugly?

Speaker 7 (14:02):
Yeah, she had a longer list, but we had to
edit it down just for time.

Speaker 2 (14:06):
All Right, it is KTWB, it is wish Day. Let's
get a total on match day, not whish Day. It's
match day with Treasure Island, and they're matching all your
donations big and small, whether it's five dollars, ten dollars.
We had one for fifteen hundred dollars a while ago. Jenny,
what is our latest total?

Speaker 5 (14:21):
We are at four three and thirty dollars.

Speaker 1 (14:24):
Love that?

Speaker 2 (14:24):
Okay, I love that so much. Let's try to get
it too. Let's try to get it to five thousand
dollars in the next couple of minutes. So if you
can donate, please do go online kab dot com, slash wish.
If you heard a little while ago about the grandma
Grandma mail nine grandkids, Yeah, and we helped them out.
Each of them got one hundred dollars Target gift card

(14:45):
that they can spend on themselves or buy presents for whoever.
And then we got some goodies, and she has had
just a run of rotten bad luck, right like, one
right after the other, one, right, really, Bailey, one right
after the other. And so she is kind of the caregiver.
And I'm guessing if she's a grandma, she's probably getting
to a point in her life, an age in her
life where it's like, you know what, kind of want
to slow down a little bit.

Speaker 1 (15:05):
I don't know how old she is.

Speaker 5 (15:07):
I mean, she's old enough to have nine grandkids.

Speaker 1 (15:09):
That's a lot. Fifty sixty maybe older. I don't really.

Speaker 7 (15:12):
Oh god, if she's only fifty nine grandkids, it is possible.

Speaker 5 (15:16):
It's possible she didn't marry.

Speaker 6 (15:17):
She has a lot of grand kids because her oh right, kids,
there was a chance that she.

Speaker 5 (15:21):
Is a little bit younger.

Speaker 2 (15:23):
But in an age like that one, it's kind of like,
you know what, you kind of deserve to slow down,
put your feet up once in a while and watch
doctor Phil.

Speaker 5 (15:28):
Yeah, exactly, you deserve that.

Speaker 7 (15:30):
Just have some you know, hot cocoa and then just
sit with fuzzy slippers on.

Speaker 1 (15:34):
Yep.

Speaker 5 (15:35):
But not Mel. No, she's got too much she's got
to do.

Speaker 2 (15:37):
If you want to help out people like Mel, And
there's Every wish is different. Every wish is just a
little bit different. Some are a lot different. But if
you want to help out with somebody who is not
as fortunate as you are, then please donate online, especially
today now that Treasure Island is matching the wishes on
KWB dot com slash wish.

Speaker 1 (15:58):
Are we playing a song? Are we going to commerci?

Speaker 5 (16:00):
We gotta go to commercial.

Speaker 2 (16:01):

stuff coming up on KTWGB. We've got more Trans Siberian
Orchestra concert tickets, Dave's Dirt coming right up in a second.
Stay here on kate d WB. Reach out to us.
If there's anything you need or comments on anything, then
send us a text to KATIEWB one five. It is

(16:29):
Treasure Island match day and we just had another donation.
Not all donations to ask for a shout out, but
we wanted to do a shout out this one.

Speaker 7 (16:37):
This we was some Shannon who just dond seventy five
dollars in honor of her three kids, Hazel, Hank and Harrison.
I'm so incredibly grateful that I get to be their
mom and get to hug them every day. Also what
great names, Hazel, Hank and Harrison. They sound cool. I
love that Hank Hank, especially Hank. I like Hank the best.

Speaker 2 (16:56):
There was a time when one of the hottest jobs
in tech was becoming a manager over its circuit city.

Speaker 1 (17:01):
But things have changed.

Speaker 2 (17:02):
People online are talking about what professions that were once
highly ex respected but are now considered a joke. Now
we're not saying that they are, but these are people
who have worked in this field and say it used
to be highly respected and now it's a joke. But
remember this is not from the Dave Ryan Show. We're
just reporting the news.

Speaker 7 (17:22):
Yeah.

Speaker 2 (17:23):
Number one retail, retail, primarily for wage reasons. Another one
said bank teller. Somebody said it used to be a
foot in the door to the finance industry. Now it's
basically a twenty something credit card salesperson. Yes, okay, taxi driver.
This is bbe a case where the industry became so bad.
People jumped at alternatives like Uber and Lyft when they launched,

(17:46):
But taxis are still a thing. You go to Las Vegas,
you get a taxi line. Yeah, you can take an
Uber if you want to, But there's taxis everywhere in
Las Vegas.

Speaker 7 (17:53):
Half of the reason I ever want to go to
New York is so I can ride in a taxi
and like run out into the street and wave and.

Speaker 5 (17:58):
Be like test it plays.

Speaker 6 (18:01):
I'm so expensive, though, Oh you would just take the
subway if you went, I would probably just walk on
a We'll just figure it out.

Speaker 1 (18:07):
Subways quick. What's that subways quicker too? Oh yeah, well
then I'll do that astrologer.

Speaker 2 (18:13):
They say royals used to consult with astrologers to see
what was written in the stars when it was considered
a genuine science teacher. And again, this is not saying
they should be disrespected. They're saying that that I was
in this career and it's disrespected. They say, the complete
lack of respect by government's parents and the kids is astonishing.
Wedding photographers went from being the preservers of authentic, joyful

(18:37):
moments to being content creators that manufacture those authentic moments
for likes and bride influencers. Journalists somewhere along the way
it's not being about delivering the news in a timely manner,
and it started being about clicks and being the first
to report something, even if it might not be true.

Speaker 1 (18:54):
I hate that, especially when celebrities pass away.

Speaker 5 (18:57):
There's so many people that just want to be the
first to break the story. Yeah, nothing else to like
to offer, but this happened, no details.

Speaker 1 (19:03):
Yeah, you know a lot of.

Speaker 2 (19:03):
Like older celebrities, like the news has already got like
the the what biography or whatever, the tribute written up
just in case, just in case, Like like Dick Vandyke
is ninety eight years old, he was just in the
latest cold Play video, and like CNN or whatever already
has like a best of dig.

Speaker 7 (19:24):
In case, Yeah, just in case, because he's turning ninety
nine in like three days.

Speaker 1 (19:27):
Isn't amazing?

Speaker 2 (19:28):
Yeah, No, real estate agents they say it just became
a plan B career.

Speaker 1 (19:34):
Airline.

Speaker 2 (19:35):
Working for an airline used to be an admirable classic job.
Now it's embarrassing because airlines treat people like cattle chiropractors.
They say, the whole industry needs a major adjustment. I
don't get why.

Speaker 5 (19:49):
You get it.

Speaker 1 (19:49):
You get it.

Speaker 7 (19:50):
I have.

Speaker 5 (19:51):
I have a career that I'm worried about.

Speaker 7 (19:52):
If it's a joke career, Court justter thoughts, Court gestures,
Is that a jokey career?

Speaker 5 (19:58):
Would you say that's clouding around. If I was a court.

Speaker 1 (20:00):
Juster, it's kind of like a blacksmith. It's kind of gone.

Speaker 7 (20:04):
Yeah, it's gone by the wayside. I think that's what
I want to go into though, when radio doesn't pan out.
I want to be a court juster. What kind of
quarter are you gonna jest at? Whichever one's open? I
mean the public like the public one, the food court. Course,
I'll just at the food court.

Speaker 1 (20:18):
Okay, good?

Speaker 2 (20:19):
And people online can't agree whether it's a good choice
or not. Merriam Webster just to announce it's word of
the year is polarization. They define it as division into
two sharply distinct opposites.

Speaker 4 (20:33):
Uh.

Speaker 2 (20:33):
And they chose it based on search volume because it
is widely used across the media landscape, especially in articles
about the election.

Speaker 5 (20:41):
Do you want to recount? I want it to be
skibby Rez.

Speaker 2 (20:43):
Sorry that was right up there, but it's not this year.
Demure fortnite because of Taylor Swift, Pander, resonate, weird, cognitive democracy,
and allision?

Speaker 1 (21:03):
What is allision? Do we know what allgiation?

Speaker 2 (21:05):
It's like a collision, but it's when a boat hits
a station, like when a boat hits a stationary officer.

Speaker 1 (21:09):
I have no idea.

Speaker 2 (21:11):
A lot of people in May looked it up when
the key bridge got destroyed. That's an illusion. So a collision,
I guess is two moving things, but religion is just one.

Speaker 1 (21:18):
I don't know.

Speaker 5 (21:19):
Fascinating that is.

Speaker 1 (21:20):
You can't make this stuff up.

Speaker 2 (21:21):
On KTWB, Jenny, what's our latest update for the Treasure
Island match?

Speaker 6 (21:24):
Day four six and twenty five dollars?

Speaker 1 (21:27):
Right?

Speaker 2 (21:28):
Okay, we were trying to get to five thousand. We
did not quite make it, but I believe in you.

Speaker 5 (21:32):
Let's do this.

Speaker 2 (21:34):
They are matching today, so let's be as generous as
you can and really take advantage of the generosity of
Treasure Island Resort and casino. Go online and donate please
