Speaker 1 (00:01):
The story in this group therapy is so interesting because
it's about a pathological liar and somebody who just loves
to tell lies for no reason, and here to tell
us the story about it and some of the lies
that she's told is Marissa, Hi, Marissa, Hi, how are you? Hey? Good?
Thanks for being on. So tell me a little bit

(00:21):
about First of all, how'd you meet this person? We'll
start there and then we'll get into the lies they've
told you.

Speaker 2 (00:26):
Okay, well that works easy. We met playing pickleball, okay,
like you do. And we met about I guess like
five or four or five months ago now and discot
I'm telling you she's a pathological liar.

Speaker 1 (00:38):
So what was the first Because when you when you
meet somebody who's a pathological liar, they'll tell you a
lie and you're like, oh wow, that's crazy, but you
don't really think it's a lie until they start piling
on more lies. So what was your story? Give me
the stories?

Speaker 2 (00:50):
And like as you get to know them too, you
know what I mean, Like it's like, oh, well that's
wild and then it's like, oh, too many wild things.
So she apparently just got back from a vacation in Tokyo,
and oh my gosh, you're not going to believe who
I met. I ran into in Tokyo. I ran into
a in a Starbucks, right, Harry Styles. Of course, she
just happened to run into Harry Styles in Tokyo. Okay,

(01:13):
location that she just happened to take in Tokyo. And
of course they flooded because of course they did, and
they exchanged phone numbers because of course that happens.

Speaker 3 (01:26):
What are you talking about here?

Speaker 1 (01:27):
Okay?

Speaker 2 (01:29):
Yeah, I'm telling you it's crazy. And I was like,
oh my god, that's so cool. You know, did he
ever reach out to it? She's like, yeah, but you
know what he called? I guess I missed this call
and then I called it back and he didn't answer,
So that was kind of weird.

Speaker 1 (01:41):
And I mean it's plausible though, it's plausible, is it?
You know? I mean sure it is.

Speaker 4 (01:46):
You know, if you're an eighth grader writing fan fiction,
that's it's plausible.

Speaker 1 (01:51):
If you know somebody, you might be like, wow, that's
kind of crazy, so you kind of believe it. But
then things get worse.

Speaker 2 (01:58):
Oh, it gets it completely gets rid of She's all
so also a secret shopper and she gets a thousand
dollars a month to shop at Macy's and Coal, which
I'm like, I don't think they give secret shoppers that
much money. But okay, that's a lie, but that's.

Speaker 1 (02:11):
A cool lie. Yeah, okay, but then you kind of like, oh, wow,
that's kind of hard to believe. But whatever.

Speaker 2 (02:16):
But then, especially since I think she originally told me
she worked in healthcare, so whatever. So this is my
favorite one though. She was having brunch at Cove right yeah,
and this guy she won't tell me your name, This
guy came up to her and was like, oh, you know,
you're so beautiful. You're so vicious that I'm like, she's

(02:37):
really pretty and everything like that. She's not like, oh
my god, you're the most beautiful thing I've ever seen,
which is what she said that. I said, yeah, And
he was like, I want you to come back with
me for the weekend, and I want you to come
to my place. He's got this apparently he's got a
mansion like on Lake Minnetonka. Like everyone that comes up
to you at Cove and says that you're beautiful has

(02:59):
clastic And she was supposed to just stay for the weekend,
but she lives there. Now, now it's this mansion from
this guy.

Speaker 5 (03:07):
She just approached her. She just went to some random
guy's mansion. I mean, yeah, now she lives there. They
maybe really hit it off. So now she lives in
the guest room or whatever.

Speaker 2 (03:18):
Right, yeah, and that's just it. Oh my god. It's like,
you know, like she she lives in the guest room
because one of the guest rooms, because it's a mansion.

Speaker 1 (03:26):
Are they or something?

Speaker 2 (03:28):
No, she sits there. And I was like, as you do.
I was like, uh, yeah, I want to see this house.
Can I you know, can I come by? You know,
I'll pick you up the game go somewhere, but I
want to I want to see this Oh no, no, no,
no no no. He's very he's very private, he's very
perfect protective. I can't have anyone over to the house.

Speaker 1 (03:47):
Okay. Now you start to stew around. Now you're like, okay,
between the Harry styles, changing phone numbers, and then she's
a secret shopper and then she lives in some rich
guy's house on Lake Minatanka, but you can't come by
to see it. Okay. Now you're like, on were.

Speaker 2 (04:01):
Right exactly, And this is the straw that broke the
camel's back is. The latest one is that she and
Harry Styles did actually get in contact upon another and
that Harry Styles sent her a let's call it a depict.

Speaker 1 (04:16):
Yeah, Harry Styles. Harry Styles then sends her a defict. Okay,
check this out.

Speaker 2 (04:23):
Yeah. So of course I'm like, oh, can I see it?
Not because I want to see it, but because I'm like, sure,
that's what happens. And she's like, oh no, no, that's
I could never like I can't share that. I'm like, ma'am, ma'am.

Speaker 1 (04:40):
So you know she's But here's the funny thing about
pathological liars. A lot of the time they're just charming,
normal people that you know, they go do things, they
play pickleball, they're nice, they whatever. But then they tell
these lies that they're not even necessary to be your friend.
It's like, why do you need to lie to me
about this one? So your Q you have a question
about this.

Speaker 2 (04:59):
Yes, Like, first of all, why why would she do this? She's,
like you said, she's a perfectly nice person when she's not,
you know, being a psychotical lier. And do I call
her out? Do I just finally just look her in
her face and go, you're lying. What are you? What
are you doing? Why are you doing this? Stop it?
Just stop.

Speaker 3 (05:16):
I don't know how you have it yet at the
Harry Styles I'd have been like, girl, please.

Speaker 4 (05:21):
I feel like if it was my friend, I wouldn't
want to hurt her feelings or make her upset with me.
So I would feel weird being like, yeah, you're a
big fat liar. All of everything that you're saying is
a lie, because then they'll get defensive and then you'll
get in a fight, and I would try to avoid it.

Speaker 1 (05:35):
I think that you're right. Yeah, it's anytime that I've
called I've had a couple of friends that are like
that and you call them out and they are. They
get angry and they get so defensive, they get mad,
they get mad at you for not believing them.

Speaker 3 (05:45):
Yeah, but I could lie innocently about you know, I
got a bonus at work today. Like that's something that
you're not going to follow up on. Harry Styles, set
me a d pic. How much do you value me
as a friend? If you think I'm going to believe that.

Speaker 1 (05:57):
That's a really good point. I mean, I think she's
just trying to I don't know why did they do it?
I'll attention, Yeah, what do you mean?

Speaker 5 (06:03):
That's why anyone. I think that it is like a
mental disorder if you are lying to the extent that
this person is lying. I do one person like this
growing up, and I think she matured and doesn't do
those things anymore. But man, the lies she would tell
us in college, it was crazy.

Speaker 1 (06:20):
And I think that they do it, yeah, because they
want attention, but it gets so frustrating. It's like, you
don't have to do that. I like you anyway. So
maybe somebody, because it's group therapy, maybe somebody listening is like, yeah,
I my girlfriend or my husband was a whatever was
a pathological liar, or my coworker, or maybe somebody's listening
who's like, yeah, I tell those lies too. I can't

(06:43):
help it. I don't know where they come from, but
I think the thing is a lot of the time
they can't remember what they lied about, so you know,
catch them at one point like so how's that house
on Prior Lake. Oh it's great, It's like, ah, love it.

Speaker 5 (06:57):
But then don't you think that they because they're such
a crazy, pathological liar, they're going to lie their way
out of anything they get caught in.

Speaker 1 (07:04):
Oh, probably text messages. Marissa, by the way, if you
just joined us. Marissa met somebody playing pickleball, and this
person is, you know, seems to be wonderful. And she's
said that she met Harry Styles at a coffee shop
in Tokyo and they exchanged numbers. Of course they flirted.
And then she also is a secret shopper. She gets
a thousand dollars thousand dollars a month for Cohle's and

(07:25):
was it Macy's. Yeah, And then she met a guy
at cove fancy schmancy place over in Wayzetta and a
guy comes up and says, you're so beautiful, will you
come live with me? So she's lived with him for
a couple of months, but she's not You're not allowed
to go visit her house, which makes you think. And
then it's like, oh, how's Harry Styles? Oh he sent
me a d pic.

Speaker 3 (07:45):
But I can't show you.

Speaker 1 (07:46):
But I can't show you, Okay, So what do people say?
Here's a text that says, don't accuse her of lying,
just say it feels like you're lying. I don't know anyway.

Speaker 4 (08:00):
Somebody does say, is the color really a friend of
hers or just somebody she plays pickleball with. Like, if
they hang out together, then it's a real friend. But
if not, just leave her alone if she's not a
true friend. Like I think that's what I would probably do,
is just stop fueling the fire personally.

Speaker 3 (08:15):
Well, somebody else said the opposite. Somebody said, good morning.
She should try to match her with her own stories
and see how far it can go. It sounds pretty entertaining.
That's what I do. And I'd be like, oh yeah,
and I'm gonna have lunch with the Pope today.

Speaker 1 (08:26):
I've got pizza cause he's from Chicago. Oh yeah, well
I'm gonna go spend the night in Vatican City. I
would do that. What should she do, Jenny, I.

Speaker 5 (08:36):
Mean, if you're wanting to continue a friendship with this person,
then I would say you should just start calling her out.
But I think most people are not confrontational in that way.

Speaker 3 (08:46):
I don't understand that. Maybe me, it's just an East Coaster.

Speaker 1 (08:49):
You're a little bitch.

Speaker 5 (08:50):
Wow, you're willing to like call people out.

Speaker 1 (08:53):
Most people in Minnesota are You're a five? Am I
a little bitch?

Speaker 3 (08:57):
Or do I just say it how it is? Yeah,
and were like, yeah, I would just call it out,
be like what, like, just shut up like the first lie,
Like I've ran in a Harry styles get at of here.

Speaker 1 (09:06):
I mean, what do you what do you have to lose?
I mean that's the question. Do you hang out with
this girl? Do you like go get coffee with her?
Or do you just see her at pickleball?

Speaker 2 (09:13):
We basically just play pickleball. This is not someone that
like I can fight in obviously, or you know, tell
anything important in my life, just like a friendly acquaintance
and that right there.

Speaker 3 (09:23):
If we're not even like cool like that, what do
you like? I really don't care, Like we don't talk
outside of pickleball? Why are you lying so much effort?

Speaker 1 (09:29):
There are some text messages for you for advice. Here's
one that says I dated a guy with fake cancer
that was allegedly Shakira's pilot. He even made fake blood
come out of his mouth. He's got a wife, four kids,
and two other girlfriends. What earth? I just don't know
why people do this.

Speaker 4 (09:47):
Yeah.

Speaker 1 (09:47):
Another one says I know somebody who's a liar like this.
My friends and I use it as entertainment. We bring
up random subjects and see what lie he is going
to say about it, Like, oh yeah, I went to
the Twins game and he's like, you know I used
to pitch for the Twins. Yeah, I go, really, when
was that? I'm not allowed to say. I don't see
you on the roster. You go, well, they took me
off because of political reasons. Yeah.

Speaker 4 (10:06):
It is kind of entertaining if you like feed into
it a little bit, but also exhausting.

Speaker 1 (10:12):
I can imagine. So what he says, plot twist, all
of it's true? What if? What if you found out?
Wouldn't that to be the big shocker? She's like, okay,
all right, you go over to the house on Lake Minnetonka.
She shows you all the stuff she got it Coll's
and she's facetiming Harry Styles with this.

Speaker 3 (10:27):
D pict matter of fact, one time, I have a
family member who they get into like they're in the
media industry, and they said that they had a part
in writing Black Panther, and I was like please, and
they were like no, I swear we went through a
lot of drafts. When Black Panther came out, I looked
at every credit in that movie, didn't see his name,
and I said it.

Speaker 1 (10:45):
I was like, what did he pass up? All right?

Speaker 3 (10:49):
Like finally he said no, there was some like no,
I told them they didn't have to put me in
there because drafts I don't know.

Speaker 1 (10:55):
So that's funny. Hey, we're gonna do pick her to
get Tuesday in moments, so be ready for that one.
But in the meantime, Aubrey final word on this, Aubrey,
what would you tell Marissa who's got the friend who's
a pathological liar?

Speaker 5 (11:07):
I just feel like it's not even worth it.

Speaker 1 (11:09):
Like people unfortunately that do that, they don't even know
how to interact without fabricating these crazy details anymore.

Speaker 3 (11:14):
So it's not going to change.

Speaker 4 (11:16):
Yeah, it's just not going to change, right, That's why
I'm like, I'm just ignore it at this point, or
like what the people said, use it as entertainment, yeah,
which it.

Speaker 1 (11:25):
Is kind of entertaining. I mean it entertained us for
the last five minutes. Marissa, thanks for calling in and
good luck with your friend.

Speaker 2 (11:32):
I really appreciate it.

Speaker 1 (11:33):
Yeah, you bet, interesting stories. We appreciate that.
