Social media giant Meta has tried to issue a defence, despite ongoing efforts to regulate the technology in Parliament.
National MP Catherine Wedd recently put forward a member’s bill to ban social media for under-16s - a plan backed by the Prime Minister.
Wedd says this technology is causing harm to young people and it needs to be taken seriously.

Pro-Palestine demonstrators last week protested outside the Foreign Minister's Auckland home after Israeli forces intercepted a flotilla headed to Gaza, including three Kiwis.

A gastropub north of Auckland has lost its right to sell alcohol after renewal applications for both its on and off licences were rejected by a district licensing committee.
The District Licensing Committee released its decision on September 19, declining off and on licence renewals for Parāoa Brewing Company at Whangaparāoa Rd, Stanmore Bay.
