Speaker 1 (00:00):
Hello, it's Lorient and Charley. Welcome back to Crook and
Chase Nashville Chats. We are going to get right to
our latest conversation with country music's top female artist. Just
layers of things going on in the life of Lany Wilson.
I don't think we have time to mention it all, Charlie,
but take.
Speaker 2 (00:17):
A stab at well, well, let me see what I
can find here. Well, she just launched her first world
tour spans into next year. Just released the deluxe version
of her award winning album WorldWind, which features five terrific
new songs. We love them all. She is a high
profile spokesperson with several companies, runs her own bar and
(00:37):
restaurant here in Nashville. It's called Bell Bottoms Up. No
surprise there. Her latest venture has just launched. It's a
line of cowgirl jewelry that she designs. Okay, Now, on
top of all this stuff, oh yeah, yeah, she does touring. Okay, Yes,
On top of all that, she is planning her wedding
to former NFL quarterback Devlin Hodges. No, wait a minute,
(00:58):
his name is Duck.
Speaker 1 (01:00):
I can't call them that Hodges. But Gina, listening to
you Charlie. I kind of feel like an unambitious slug
no no, no, Ay Wilson. But let's get to it
with superstar Lanny Wilson. Laney Wilson. All Right, deluxe album.
I imagine the tour. The new tour is deluxe. Is
(01:21):
everything about your life Deluxe? Right now?
Speaker 3 (01:22):
Girl, it feels pretty deluxe.
Speaker 4 (01:25):
It feels good, it feels it just feels like we're
kind of flipping the page and going into like a
new little era and I'm excited.
Speaker 3 (01:36):
I'm good and rested and ready to whoop some butt.
Speaker 2 (01:40):
All right, well, thanks for the warning. Okay, Whirlwin, great
album nominations, a lot of great critical acclaim. You add
five cuts to this and the one that caught my
attention peace Love and Cowboys, and I can just see
it now. Everybody in the audience when you do this
song will have their hands raised and just swaying back
and forth.
Speaker 3 (01:58):
That's the plan. We have not got to do it live,
but it is going to be in this set. And
I'm so excited.
Speaker 4 (02:05):
We're actually like playing this song before it even comes out,
so like we'll be playing three or four shows and
people are gonna be like, what in the world is this,
But I'm that proud of it and I'm that excited
to be playing it, and it just feels like it
feels like a moment, and I.
Speaker 3 (02:21):
Just can't wait to share it with people. So we're
not waiting.
Speaker 1 (02:25):
Well, you know what, Landy, I think your friend and
I ours, Dolly Parton will love this new song, Peace
Love and Cowboys. Now, we've seen Dolly recently for the
world premiere of her new musical here in Nashville, which
is fabulous by the way. But you know, Dolly has
expressed how worried she is about the whole darn world,
and she says it breaks her heart that so many
(02:45):
people can't or won't get along. So through her talent
as a songwriter and entertainer, she's trying to give hope
and inspiration for people to just come together. So do
you think you're a new song, Peace Love and Cowboys
carries that same message.
Speaker 4 (03:01):
Yes, I really do. I mean, I've always been like
the mediator. It didn't matter like if somebody in my
family was fighting or whatever. I feel like, can we
all just like love each other? And the truth is,
like I'm I'm surrounded by so many people who believe
different things than me and and represent different things and
(03:23):
and everything. And I know that my job here on
this earth is to love people and to connect with people,
and you know, I'm just that's that's what all this
is about, truly, And so you know, thankfully we've had
people like Dolly Parton standing in the gap like that
(03:45):
and shout that kind of thing from the rooftops, and
so it doesn't make it as scary to be able
to do that, you know. And so yeah, if it
was a perfect world to be full of peace loving cowboys,
for sure.
Speaker 2 (03:58):
Well let me just say that I think think you
are leading the charge in my opinion when it comes
to keeping it country and with these additional cuts on WorldWind,
I think you're doing the same thing. And that's been
an important aspect of your career since we've known you.
Speaker 4 (04:11):
I would say so, and thank you for saying that.
I'm leading the charge with some of that, you know.
I mean, at the end of the day, it's all
about telling a story. That's why I fell in love
of country music is just the storytelling. I mean, I
was writing songs at eleven years old about tequila and cigarettes,
and my parents didn't drink or smoke, but I was
(04:31):
telling a story, you know, And so yeah, I think
it's just about the storytelling and that's what we all
love about country music.
Speaker 1 (04:41):
So aren't there things that you're getting to do with
your tour? You're staging the way you present yourself nowadays
that's really exciting to you.
Speaker 3 (04:50):
Yes, I will tell you this.
Speaker 4 (04:52):
I feel like as we're having more success where the
team is growing, the amount of people that we even
have had on the road, we're able to have some
more like bells and whistles, but also keep the main
thing about the main thing, you know, and that is
like connecting with people as many people as you possibly can.
But it's cool. It's like we're we're able to have
(05:16):
like those intimate moments and me and the band are
able to just be able to like feed off of
each other, and then we have those moments that Charlie
was talking about where everybody's hands are up in the air,
swaying back and forth. And I think all of those
moments are important.
Speaker 2 (05:32):
The world is so closely connected these days. Landy, I
know you're planning a tour in Australia coming up in February.
Do you often hear from the fans in the land
down yonder we hear.
Speaker 3 (05:42):
From the fans in the landown under all the time.
Speaker 4 (05:45):
They y'all to me, Australians are like British Texans.
Speaker 3 (05:50):
I'm not even I mean it is.
Speaker 4 (05:52):
It is the coolest thing ever and also some of
the most country folks I have ever met in my life.
I got to go trail riding at this ranch called
Dark's Forest Ranch and it was like an hour outside
of Sydney, and I met some people there that I
felt like. I was like, these are like my ken folks.
They just talk a little bit different than I do.
(06:13):
And so country music fans exist all around the world
and I love to see it.
Speaker 1 (06:20):
Hey, and lady, I saw were you posted online some
video of yourself journaling. You're on the porch or balcony
or something, and you were encouraging the rest of us
to keep your journal of our daily thoughts and feelings. Yes,
but you also seem frustrated about the process. So what's
good about journaling and what's hard about it? Lady? I mean,
(06:43):
you're a writer.
Speaker 4 (06:44):
I think at times it's hard to like just be
real with yourself and also knowing that like It don't
even have to be anything super serious or like groundbreaking,
just like just write it down.
Speaker 3 (06:58):
What are you doing that day? You at how do
you feel that day?
Speaker 4 (07:01):
That way you can look back at it and really
be able to tell like your growth. And I think
it's important just to like shed some skin, you know,
and put a little lock on your journal, on your
diary so nobody can read it.
Speaker 1 (07:18):
All right, That's the thing, Landy. I would be afraid
that somebody would find it one day and go, oh,
my gosh, is that what she's really like?
Speaker 3 (07:27):
I know, And I tell you what, I'd hate to
read Charlie's.
Speaker 2 (07:30):
Oh you would, Huh. She just wants to see if
she's in it, that's all, you know.
Speaker 3 (07:34):
I'm sure she is.
Speaker 1 (07:35):
Hey, let me ask you this, Landy. I imagine that
you learn a lot about yourself as you writes songs.
So how is journaling different from songwriting?
Speaker 4 (07:45):
I will say the way that I've actually been trying
to journal is pretty similar to writing. Because I've been
trying to just write poems. What I've realized is like
that might be a little bit easier for me than
actually just like journaling, being like, oh, I'm here in
Phoenix today, and I feel this way. What I've been
doing is like if I see a yellow bird on
(08:07):
the power line, like I write a little poem about
that yellow bird, and then it's weird.
Speaker 3 (08:13):
It's just weird how it all works.
Speaker 4 (08:14):
It's like, if I flip back to that poem a
few days later, I realized that it actually had nothing
to do with a yellow bird.
Speaker 2 (08:20):
And what if that little yellow bird left its calling
card on the head of your truck.
Speaker 4 (08:25):
Now I'm gonna write another poem about that little yellow bird.
Speaker 2 (08:29):
I know the title too, Damn that little bird.
Speaker 4 (08:34):
Well.
Speaker 1 (08:34):
Next up, Lany Wilson reveals a couple of secrets, one
of the big plans she has for her upcoming wedding,
also the song that most strongly connects her to music lovers,
and what the heck is going on with Laney and
AI technology.
Speaker 2 (08:50):
I can't I can't believe it, and she can't believe it,
and she says you shouldn't either. Back with all that
and a few as Crook and Chase continues, Nashville chats
with Landy Wilson. Okay, back to the fans for a minute.
When you hit the stage, what one song do you
have and there's a bunch to choose from now. Of course,
what one song seals the deal grabs the audience they
(09:11):
are with you, they have made the connection once they
hear that particular song.
Speaker 4 (09:16):
I think people love to hear four by four by you.
I think that song is going to like continue to
grow and people are going to continue to find it.
It feels like one of those songs that even when
I'm still playing shows thirty years from now, I think
people will still be fired up to hear that one
and heart like a truck and watermelon moonshine.
Speaker 3 (09:38):
I don't know.
Speaker 1 (09:38):
Don't make me choose to stop it, Charlie, I know,
I'm sorry, all right. So everybody wants to know the
details of the upcoming wedding now, Charlie, And I understand
Lanny that you've expressed, and I think so beautifully that
there's a sacred space that belongs privately to you and
your man that no one should try to get in
(09:58):
the middle of. So we're not going to do that.
But I have to know as a songwriter, I mean,
some artists do this, They write their own wedding song.
So have you or will you write a special song
and sing it at your wedding.
Speaker 4 (10:11):
You know what, I will probably write a song for
him and like give it to him. Hopefully he don't
listen to this. Don't tell him, don't nobody tell him.
But I will probably write a song and give it
to him, like privately. But I will say at the wedding.
I don't see myself being the artist, you know, I
see myself being the bride.
Speaker 3 (10:35):
Yeah.
Speaker 2 (10:35):
Somebody posted something AI of course, of you and Duck
leaving the church after your wedding, which hasn't taken place yet.
I mean, how cool is that?
Speaker 3 (10:44):
The things that AI comes up with. They had me
also performing or getting married in.
Speaker 4 (10:51):
A hospital room that like, had my daddy in the
hospital bed and daddy had a guitar playing.
Speaker 3 (10:57):
I'm like, and I showed Daddy the picture and he
was like that ain't me. I got more hair than that.
Speaker 1 (11:03):
Okay, so this is weird, lady. How do we know
that you're not AI right now? How do we know
this is you?
Speaker 3 (11:12):
You'll never know, We won't You'll never know.
Speaker 1 (11:15):
Well, the fans will know when they see you in
person in concert. Hey did you see Oh my gosh?
A fan posted some video they took a view on stage,
and they muted the sound on purpose because they wanted
to comment what a joy it is just to watch
how much fun that you have performing. I mean, isn't
that cool?
Speaker 4 (11:35):
That's pretty cool. That's pretty cool because I love it.
I love it. It's just it's a place for me
to get up there and just let it all go.
So that means the world that other people can see
how much fun I'm having.
Speaker 2 (11:51):
Well, I want you to know that it's always fun
when we get to visit with you. I know you're busy.
I'm sure you have a photo shoot every day, am
I right?
Speaker 3 (11:59):
Yes, I'm wondering when I can start.
Speaker 2 (12:01):
A and yeah, you could probably use that. Hey, you
do a great job wearing jeans. Congratulations on all your success,
my dear, and we hope to see you in Nashville
real soon. So stay safe out there.
Speaker 3 (12:11):
I love y'all. Thank y'all.
Speaker 2 (12:13):
We love you too, Lanny, take care back, okay.
Speaker 1 (12:15):
Back, Well those jeans you're talking about, Charlie that Landy
Wilson looks so good in Well, ladies, you can look
that good too. Laney has created a line of Lanie
Wilson fashions and partnership with Wrangler and honestly, now, Charlie,
you know this. Sometimes celebrity fashion lines aren't all that great.
(12:37):
Yeah they're too weird, yeah yeah, or they're just too plain. Well,
Laney's is pretty darn cool. She even has great bell
bottom looks other items for kids. Now, you and I,
Charlie disclosure, have zero business relationship, true, and we're not
getting compensated at all for talking about Wrangler. It's just
(12:59):
my personal opinion that Laney is doing it right with
her fashions, and you know, she's making it all available
to the public.
Speaker 2 (13:07):
You know, Lany's impression not only in country music, but
everything she is associated with has been so genuine in
my opinion, she likes to keep it country and everything
else just down to earth, which she is. I mean,
she's accomplished a lot, and she came along I think
just the right time to get it all done. And
she would say she ain't done yet.
Speaker 1 (13:27):
Now listen, we need her flat out honesty in this.
Speaker 2 (13:33):
I love it.
