Speaker 1 (00:00):
Hey, it's Mark Simone. Here's the bonus segment for you
podcast listeners who were very happy to have you listening
to the podcast. We always do a bonus segment on
the weekends. You know, the one thing about Democrats, They
talk about affordability, they talk about climate change, they talk
about green and all this stuff. And who's still the

(00:21):
leading Democrat. It's not Biden. Biden's just gone forever. But
really the Obamas is still big symbols of the Democratic Party.
But where are the Obamas right now? They are out
on a yacht, Steven Spielberg's two hundred and fifty million
dollars super yacht. The Obamas are aboard this four hundred

(00:43):
foot luxury vessel, these seven seas. Now again, you're supposed
to take the bus to fight climate change. You're supposed
to get rid of your car. You're supposed to get
rid of your oven. They're on a four hundred foot
two hundred and fifty million dollar yacht. Have you seen
this Spielberg yacht. It's not enough that it's a yacht.

(01:03):
It's got helicopters on it, It's got everything everything on
earth you could pollute with the biggest polluting ship in
the world, and there's the Obama's aboard, Michelle Obama decked
out in a Canadian tuxedo, greeted by Spielberg. Now there's
always a couple of celebrities on there. They were seen dancing, laughing,

(01:26):
enjoying lunch on this big, massive luxury yacht. But again,
you are supposed to take the bus to be green,
but meet them there on every every private jet, yacht,
everything that burns tons of gas. Hey, speaking of Obama,

(01:46):
you know he's building his presidential library. It's radio here
so you can't see it, but google it and take
a look at it. People are stunned. It is the
ugliest structure ever built in the hiss of America. It
is unbelievably ugly. And it's in Chicago. It's in a

(02:07):
certain neighborhood of Chicago, and the people that live in
that neighborhood are complaining like crazy. It's the most awful
iceore ever. And of course the corrupt media never asks anything.
You gotta wonder, why aren't they all over the Obama's
asking what the hell is this? Who approved this design?
It's concrete. It's just a big concrete slab. It's not

(02:29):
even rectangular. It's like a weird shape. It's a big, gray,
ugly concrete slab. If you saw this, you'd think it's
like some dungeon of a prison or something. This is
the Obama Presidential Library. Again, totally corrupt media. They'll never
ask them what the hell is this? Who approved this?
How could you okay this? Locals are all over the project,

(02:52):
calling it the worst iceore ever. But go take a
look at Google Obama Presidential Library. You'll be stunned at
how it is. Well, the war in Ukraine continues now.
Putin has just ordered one hundred and thirty five thousand
men to join the military. It's the largest fall draft

(03:12):
in years in Russia. You know, they've already lost so
many men they want to expand the force. This is
how many soldiers they've got fighting this thing, one point
five million. It's believed they've already suffered a million casualties,
and they keep adding soldiers. Last autumn they added one
hundred and thirty thousand. Now Putin is demanding one hundred

(03:33):
and thirty five thousand. This is between age eighteen and thirty.
It's a draft. It's not like anybody's volunteering their conscripts
forced into this and forced into Ukraine and being on
the front lines. Just awful situation for Russia. Hey, there's
a pizza shop on Long Island. You know, if people

(03:55):
go online, they can attack a business, they can make
fun of a business. They can say the food is awful.
But this is Phil's pizzeria in Sciocid, and good for them.
They're doing the same thing in reverse. If a customer
is really horrible, they're going to go online, they'll do video,
they'll do everything, and they'll talk about the worst customer.
It's a good thing to do. It's a very good
thing to do. More restaurants should do this. If you're

(04:17):
one of those awful customers complaining about everything. You know,
there's the famous New York restaurant tour Keith McNally, Baltasar, Minetta, Tavern,
all those places. He does it all the time in
his Instagram, especially with celebrities. If you're a really bad customer,
he'll go public, tell the whole story of what you did.
So good for this good for this place, and we

(04:38):
love Long Island, but you got some bad customers out
there in Long Island complaining like crazy. Seven eleven going
to a big transformation. Now. Seven eleven's been around forever.
They're going to open thirteen hundred new stores. They got

(04:58):
five thousand other stores. They're going to be remodeled. They've
got a lot of stories, but what they want to
do is change it. Seven to eleven food wise is
like gas station food. I mean, let's be honest, it's
just awful. So they want to change all that. They
want to make the transformation, start offering fresh food, better food.
They want to be more restaurant style. They're going to

(05:19):
put in counters and they're going to put in cafe
style seating and all that stuff. They're going to have
better prepared meals in store dining. In store dining, now
you're gonna look like one cheap date. Where do you
want to go? I'll take you to go to seven
eleven in the store dining. But they're going to do this.
Five thousand stars means to be totally remodeled, very fresh

(05:43):
food offerings. I can't wait to see them pull this off.
There'll be eleven hundred of them. They'll start with restaurants style,
all right. I want to see them pull this off.
It could work. You never know, it's possible. Hey, you
know AOL has finally announced they're getting rid of dial
up internet service. Yeah, you remember, think back twenty years now,

(06:07):
more than that, twenty five years ago, nineteen ninety nine,
two thousand, turn of the century, AOL was the biggest thing.
Everybody was on AOL America online and you had dial
up service, and you had a modem that you put
your landline telephone in to this modem and then when
you want to go online, you'd have to dial it up.

(06:28):
And you'd heard this would go on for twenty seconds
till it connected, and it was very slow, but mostly
it was typing in words. Back then, it wasn't pictures,
it wasn't video. None of that was really happening yet.
So you could get away with this dial up. But
then high speed came in and then everything went video,

(06:49):
pictures everything. You know. You think back to the early Internet.
There was no you know, kids today, you wouldn't believe it.
There was no Google. There was What did we have
back then? We had Yahoo was the search engine. I'm
trying to remember. There was Alta Vista Lecos, there were
these crazy search engines. There was nothing back then. There

(07:10):
was the big breakthrough one day was ask jeeves, you
kids today, we didn't have all We didn't have bumble Tinder,
we didn't have dating sites. We had what was it
called AOL Love Online or something. But it was actually
our great chairman of iHeart, Bob Pittman, who's a media genius.
AOL was kind of floundering around in the nineties. He

(07:31):
came to AOL and made it the biggest thing in
the world on the Internet. He made it just huge, enormous.
It totally dominated. But it's now twenty five years later
and apparently there was still, believe it or not, one
hundred and sixty five thousand people still using dial up
and AOL is dropping that one hundred and sixty five

(07:52):
thousand people will have to go high speed now, Chris,
to do dial up, you'd have to have a landline.
Most people don't do that anymore. But boy, things changed.
Microsoft got rid of Skype, you know, Microsoft got rid
of Internet Explorer. That was another one back then. Internet
Explorer that's gone. Remember AOL used to have instant Messenger
that went away in twenty seventeen. That was before texting.

(08:16):
AOL is Actually it was bought in about ten years
ago by Verizon Verizon now owns it. It still exists
and it is a part of Yahoo. It's been merged
into Yahoo. All right, here's bad news. US test scores
for kids, especially in math, all time lows. This is
why they want to close the Department of Education. It's

(08:37):
been a disaster under the Department of Education. Our students
went from first in the world to like thirty eighth.
Math scores are way down. Now, this is the worst
statistic in the world. Latest testing shows only how many
high school seniors. High school seniors were proficient in reading?

(08:58):
How many high school seniors were proficient in reading? This
is frightening. It's only thirty five percent. Two thirds are
not proficient in reading. Unbelievable. Math score even worse, it's
twenty two percent, so eighty percent are not proficient in math.
American students are testing at historic lows at every level.

(09:19):
That's why you got to change, got to get rid
of this Department of Education. You've got to do something
about these awful, awful teachers' unions which have screwed up
our schools. You've got to end all that. So now
some will argue, well you don't. One of the reasons
nobody needs to be proficient in math. You got your phone,
your calculator right in there. Even spelling. Our people are

(09:40):
arguing everything has spell check on it. Now, no reason
for kids, but but there's no reason for having two
thirds to not be able to read proficiently. Hey, NBC,
you'll be happy to hear cutting down on its news division.
NBC News in big trouble. They're about to lay off
most of the London you know, NBC News used to

(10:01):
be a big deal. The Moscow bureau, the London bureau. Well,
they're getting rid of this London bureau, laying off employees
left and right, people inside NBC things just the beginning.
There's going to be deeper cuts. They're gonna get rid
of all these bureaus. They're not going to need them anymore.
You know, they've kicked out MSNBC. It's no longer part
of NBC. They've been told to get the hell out

(10:23):
and they depend on NBC News for their news cover.
So that's going to end. NBC News is going to
eliminate dozens of people. They've already started doing it in
New York. At MSNBC. They're getting rid of the graphics
team to this team that team, MSNBC has been told
to get the hell out of the building. We don't
even watch in our building anymore. So they haven't figured

(10:45):
out where to go yet. They're going to move to
a temporary facility. MSNBC will move to a Times Square
facility temporarily. And they've been also told to get the
NBC name out of their name, and I guess it,
later in the year they'll become ms now. They've been
told stop using the peacock logo, so it'll be ms

(11:07):
now from some Times Square studio that'll be kicked out
of NBC and they'll just slowly sink away. Hey, in Manhattan,
the luxury housing market is booming and bucking national trends.
You know, all over the place. The housing went crazy,
especially on the high end all over you know, Dallas, Miami.
Well that's kind of stopped. In fact, it's declining. Everywhere.

(11:31):
The luxury housing market and all those hotspots is dropping
and has been dropping for a while. The only exception
is Manhattan. It's been going up like crazy. Now we're
talking about the luxury market agents from all over the country,
Dallas to San Francisco. Report buyers are now hesitating. That's
about volatility. They don't want to pay the steep premiums Now.
A lot of that was the pandemic boom that made

(11:53):
the housing go crazy. But that's over and it's dropping
and dropping and dropping. And while it's inventory in Manhattan fell,
but sales in Manhattan has risen almost fourteen percent year
over year. That's huge. And luxury housing market grew sixty
four percent faster than the overall market. So the high

(12:16):
end of Manhattan people are moving in and buying like crazy.
So and this is with the concern about Mamdani coming in.
What else, Hey, ozempic, Stay away from that ozempic. You know,
just eat less, exercise more, eat less. The problem with
that ozempic is you never look right and it hurts
your skin. They call it ozempic face. You can see

(12:38):
in the face. And now dentists are warning of another
side effect. It can really screw up your teeth. It
leads to dry mouth or whatever the active ingredient is
affects the salivary glands. You get dry mouth. It can
cause people to drink less water because they're less thirsty.
And all of this leads to many more cavities, gum disease,

(12:59):
all of that's Hey. Also, there's a new study that
shows you know what's better for you. You know, you
think you know you'll go out and your walk and
you do that, but you think I gotta go to
the gym and run on a treadmill and do it well.
New studies shows actually, less stressful exercise can actually be
even better for you. You don't need really rough, tough exercise,

(13:21):
fast walking, a lot of walking, swimming. Easier exercise, much
healthier movement doesn't have to be hard, gentle regular activity
counts and can build much better, long lasting health results.
It's very good to know. Hey, we're out of time.
This has been the bonus segment. Thanks for listening. I'll
be here live ten to noon Monday through Friday, where

(13:44):
you can get the podcast any place you get podcasts.
Have a great weekend. Talk to you soon.

Cardiac Cowboys

Cardiac Cowboys

The heart was always off-limits to surgeons. Cutting into it spelled instant death for the patient. That is, until a ragtag group of doctors scattered across the Midwest and Texas decided to throw out the rule book. Working in makeshift laboratories and home garages, using medical devices made from scavenged machine parts and beer tubes, these men and women invented the field of open heart surgery. Odds are, someone you know is alive because of them. So why has history left them behind? Presented by Chris Pine, CARDIAC COWBOYS tells the gripping true story behind the birth of heart surgery, and the young, Greatest Generation doctors who made it happen. For years, they competed and feuded, racing to be the first, the best, and the most prolific. Some appeared on the cover of Time Magazine, operated on kings and advised presidents. Others ended up disgraced, penniless, and convicted of felonies. Together, they ignited a revolution in medicine, and changed the world.
