Now it's the Saturday Morning Show onseven ten wo R. Here's Joe Bartlett.
Good morning, everyone, and welcometo the Joe Bartlett Saturday Show.
This is my final show and we'llget to that in just a moment.
But first, it's Memorial Day weekend, and please do not forget what this
day is all about. It's aboutthose who sacrifice their lives for our freedom.

(00:24):
Keep that in mind as you goabout what you're doing this weekend.
And with us to talk more aboutthat today is Chris Irwin, a former
Navy Seal and the current communications directorfor the Navy Seal Foundation. Chris,
good morning and thank you for yourservice. Good morning, Thanks Joe.
You guys have released a very powerfulvideo where you talk about freedom not being

(00:46):
free. Explain that for us please. Yeah. So last year we did
a video where it was called thereare no Words, So it was imagery
of the fallen Right of Arlington ofthings like that, and it just said,
there are no words to really properlyexpress what we should express for those
that have given their lives in theservice of this country. But this year
we realize that there are things wesay, things like freedom is not free,

(01:10):
and things like never forget, Andwe wanted to dig into those expressions
a little bit. You know, when we say things like freedom is not
free, sometimes we don't really talkabout, you know what that means exactly
right, who pays the cost ofthat freedom? And so we wanted to
just have a video that talks alittle bit more about that, about the

(01:30):
people that this holiday is for andhonoring, and the fact that they're the
ones who actually pay the cost ofthat freedom. The video also points out
something too that I think is extremelyimportant. I mean, those who sacrifice
their lives did it so this wouldbe a better country, a free country,
and I think you mentioned in thevideo that honor them by making this

(01:51):
a better country. It's a greatmessage, right, yeah. I mean
there's a couple of things there.I mean, one is so Memorial Day
itself is really a day about honoringthe fall, and and we want to
talk a little bit about that, right and the fact that we need to
keep these people's memory alive. It'sa very very small group of people when
we think about it, right, the people that volunteer, that raise their
right hand and swear an oath todefend the country. You know, even

(02:14):
of that small group. There's avery very small percentage that lose their lives
in the service of the country. So when we talk about things like never
Forget, you know, we haveto keep those stories and their names alive.
That's what the holiday is all about. But then beyond that, what
we're really talking about is, youknow, what those people sacrifice is so
we can then endure, right,so the rest of us can have better

(02:37):
lives. And it's so it's onus to do that and to really go
back to the values that the countrywas founded on and try to espouse those
and then bring them about through ouractions, not just just by what we
say. Chris Erwin, former NavySeal current communications director for the Navy Seal
Foundation, talk about how the averageperson can honor that never Forget message.

(03:00):
The gap. Yeah, I meana couple of things. One is on
Memorial Day itself. I think it'simportant to try to kind of learn something
about these people in some way, shape or form. Talk to a veteran
that might have I certainly know peoplethat lost their lives in the service of
the country. So trying to keepthose stories alive in some form or fashion,
whether you knew somebody and you cantalk to your kids about that,

(03:22):
or talk to your friends about that, or go out and read about it,
go to a memorial. I tryto learn something about these stories and
these people so that we truly rememberthem and that their names and stories don't
just get lost to history. Andthen the rest of the right the other
three hundred and sixty four days ofthe year, I think, again,
we just have to go back tothe values that this country was founded on
and figure out ways to give back, to strengthen our communities, to just

(03:46):
make this, as we say inthe video, make this the best nation
on earth, not by what wesay, but by what we do,
and just thinking about that every day, right, taking advantage of the opportunities
we've been afforded because of those.Tell us about the Navy Seal Foundation and
what do you do to support families? Yeah, the Navy Seal Foundation.
We are the largest nonprofit in thecountry that supports the entire naval special warfare

(04:10):
community, what most people would thinkof as the seal community, and that
is active duty, that is veterans, that is families, and it's something
like probably twenty five thousand people orso that would fall under our programs we
have five pillars of support and aboutthirty programs under those pillars, and then

(04:30):
in relation to Memorial Day specifically, one of our pillars is Resilience and most
of that is directed at the goldStar Families, which are families of the
fallen. It's five hundred plus familymembers in Naval Special Warfare alone that we
support in a myriad of ways andan ongoing support after they've they've lost somebody,
Chris, tell us how we canhelp you with the money or support

(04:55):
or just what's the best way toget some more information about the Navy Seal
Foundation and to support what you're doing. Yeah. Absolutely. Navy Sealfoundation dot
org is our website and there's linksto all of our social media handles there.
There's videos on YouTube that can checkout, obviously the Memorial Day video
and a bunch of others that educateabout what we do at the foundation.

(05:16):
And then if you'd like to geton our email list, which kind of
takes you through a sequence and talksto you and tells you about what we
do, you can go to Standwith Seals dot org and just enter your
email and you'll get a series ofemails there that kind of end videos that
teach you about what we do.Well, folks, look at I mean,
if you do nothing else this weekend, I go to that website,
Navy Sealfoundation dot org and look atthe video. It's a powerful message and

(05:42):
I think it's one we should allsee this weekend. Chris, best of
luck to you, Good luck withall that you do for the Navy Seals
in the military community, and againthank you for your service. Thanks Alatcho.
