Speaker 2 (00:29):
We're gonna say I said the last time we were
doing that to the tribute to Big when we did
the zoom call.
Speaker 3 (00:34):
Oh that's right, Oh you did, we were doing the Yeah,
it was around that time of Big, the way it
was creating, and you told such great stories of working
with Big.
Speaker 4 (00:45):
I remember that.
Speaker 5 (00:45):
Wow, that's the last time seeing you When I had
a single Soul Fly was that the last time?
Speaker 1 (00:50):
There's no way, There's no way.
Speaker 5 (00:52):
Two thousand and eight.
Speaker 3 (00:54):
So Fly was two thousand and eight, Yo, So Fly
still hits.
Speaker 1 (01:00):
It's so hard?
Speaker 4 (01:01):
Yeah, yeah, man.
Speaker 1 (01:02):
Do you ever, like, I.
Speaker 3 (01:03):
Mean, for all of y'all, do you ever like, even
in this moment you're back on tour, the music's coming up,
do you the way people will still.
Speaker 1 (01:09):
React to these songs? Does it ever surprise you?
Speaker 3 (01:11):
Do you ever? I don't know?
Speaker 1 (01:13):
Are you ever taking aback by that.
Speaker 2 (01:15):
No, honestly, not really because because it's the same it's
the same.
Speaker 4 (01:20):
Energy that they had back in the nineties when we started.
Speaker 2 (01:22):
It's like it's though, it's that same fan base, so
you know, like I'd be surprised if they didn't.
Speaker 4 (01:27):
Do it, you know, like you like what do y'all.
Speaker 6 (01:30):
Y'all loved us, and I always think the formula worked
because that was the goal to make them timeless records
that thirty years later.
Speaker 1 (01:40):
Yeah, still hitting, So I know that's right. Yeah, Kima,
How you haven't seen you in so long?
Speaker 6 (01:44):
Angie? The last time and I've probably seen you since then,
but the last, the most vivid time was remember was
in in Jamaica and we were doing something for hot
ninety seven, uh huh, And they took us out of
the hotel and we invited you and love and I'm
over to the pool to the villa and we cooked
and we had we had.
Speaker 7 (02:07):
That was ag I.
Speaker 1 (02:09):
Think that was the last.
Speaker 6 (02:10):
That was the last time.
Speaker 1 (02:11):
I No, that's not It can't be possibly true.
Speaker 3 (02:13):
The amount of times I interviewed total back in the day,
I feel like I must have seen you after that.
Speaker 6 (02:18):
It wasn't after that, and it was kind of like.
Speaker 1 (02:21):
What's been happening in your life?
Speaker 3 (02:22):
How?
Speaker 7 (02:22):
How have you married?
Speaker 6 (02:24):
I've been married? How many years? I have two kids
six altogether, twenty two year old and a twenty four
Wow grandma.
Speaker 1 (02:33):
To n i's your sister. Vita's good.
Speaker 6 (02:37):
Vita's good. We both now are in Georgia. Vita's good.
Speaker 1 (02:40):
We saw Vita at the versus battle. Yes, and she
killed it and she killed it. People might not know
Vita is Keima's sister. Yes, they should know that, by.
Speaker 6 (02:51):
The way, right, and people really don't know that, like, yep,
but that's my sister.
Speaker 1 (02:55):
And then Keisha, she's just if you look amazing. You
got three kids? Three kids? Yes, three kids? How long
you and Omar been married?
Speaker 8 (03:04):
We're approaching twenty wow in February. Yeah, yes, I've been
knowing him.
Speaker 1 (03:09):
Over thirty that's amazing.
Speaker 8 (03:11):
Yeah. And he's like a total fan, right, Oh my god,
Yes he is.
Speaker 1 (03:15):
He's a total fan. Yes, he is.
Speaker 8 (03:18):
He's a big, total fan.
Speaker 9 (03:19):
Really.
Speaker 8 (03:19):
I love that he's just so happy that you know,
I'm out there and we're back together. He's very happy.
Speaker 7 (03:25):
I love that.
Speaker 1 (03:26):
Is he at the shows and like.
Speaker 8 (03:28):
Yeah, he's in and out because Omar stays working. It's
like the hardest working man, I know. Yeah, but yeah,
he comes out to the show, so he gives his
little pointers and yeah, but he's proud of us. He's
very very happy that me and Kima did this one
of the times when we were just kind of idle.
I don't know why, you don't think, why don't you
and Kima just do it?
Speaker 6 (03:49):
Oh?
Speaker 3 (03:49):
Because Pam? Right, Yeah, so what's happening with Pam? She
just found a different route. She's just in a different Yeah.
Speaker 8 (03:56):
Well, she said she wanted to focus on God. You know.
So when when we aught about, you know, continuing our legacy,
because we were like this is just so unfair and
especially everybody was out going so hard and feel like
we're missing out, like this is such a blessed when yes,
and so when we went we asked her maybe like
(04:16):
three times in total, and then she said, listen, like
I'm not gonna pick up the phone every time if
y'all ask me again, like I don't want to do total.
Speaker 1 (04:23):
So wow, And was she okay with you guys moving
on with total?
Speaker 6 (04:27):
He said she was. And there's been like, you know,
we've been getting some kickpack because of that, and you know,
Pam was very clear, she did interviews and everything, wishing
us luck, saying why she was not a part, and
Keisha and I just decided we were just gonna keep
representing our legacy, our brand. You know, we deserve too.
We wanted to and that's what we're doing.
Speaker 8 (04:47):
And it's been beautiful because you're gonna have people, people
have like their favorites in the group. And I get
it when you see a group in totality, there's there's something, maybe,
something that's missing. But the fans have been so supportive
and it's like, you know what, they killing it Yes,
and I'm just happy. Yes, Kim and I believed in
(05:08):
the brand, the total brand, and we say yes. And
the moment we say yes, I'm telling you that's the blessing,
right is because the moment we say yes, we were
on the phone. Management was like, oh, y'all about to
be on tour with the Queens of R and B
tour with Escaping s WV. So that was a major
tour that we went on. The moment that we.
Speaker 6 (05:26):
Say yes, yeah, everything just like it was just waiting
there for.
Speaker 3 (05:30):
Us to yes, yes, And what about y'all you have
similar situations, like when do you decide to go out
without their original squad? What happens is there discussions? Is
everybody okay with it?
Speaker 1 (05:45):
Where are we at?
Speaker 7 (05:46):
Yeah?
Speaker 2 (05:46):
So uh yes, so yeah, because that was a that
was first of all, we want to say if if
anybody thinks that we're going to get on here and
talk negative about those dudes man like, you're just point
of because we're not. We We we understand and respect
the contributions that they did make to the group and
will forever be grateful for that. With that being said,
(06:09):
there there's a narrative out there that we that we
kicked them out of the group and we refuse to
let them back in the group. We want to set
the reconstrate that they left the group kind of the
same way, you know, the same decision. We heard the
same thing about God, you know, directing them to go
in a different route, which absolutely can respect.
Speaker 1 (06:31):
You don't want to be on the receiving under You do.
Speaker 2 (06:33):
Not want to have a fight with JC right now?
So who so so? Who will we to tell you? You
know that what path the most high hands for you?
So God go with you, God bless you. And we're
going to continue this one twelve machine, you know. So
that's that's what we were doing.
Speaker 4 (06:49):
So you know, we we owe it to our fan
base too. You know, it's been thirty years, this is
this is our thirtieth year.
Speaker 5 (06:55):
And the exactly we actually asked the fans like, okay,
and this happened.
Speaker 4 (07:00):
Seven years ago years eight years, eight years.
Speaker 5 (07:02):
So you know when everybody started making their own decisions
or whatever. After after we had we all sat down
list listen to everybody's you know, what they felt, and
we were saying, okay, all right, Prince, what we're gonna do,
by the way, So so yeah, so we said, let's
let's ask the fans.
Speaker 4 (07:22):
Ask the fans.
Speaker 5 (07:23):
It was a global response saying, hey, keep it, keep
keep it going. And so that's what we've been doing.
Speaker 2 (07:28):
And I love that and from now we got a
tour it now we have this this to it that
we're promoted.
Speaker 3 (07:32):
You know what it is to It's like, yes, we
love to see the original groups in the nostalgia of
all that, but the music can't go right. We want
to hear the songs, man, like, we want to hear
the song.
Speaker 5 (07:48):
It kept everyone, you know, every anybody who contributed to
the records. When we keep the brand going, everybody benefits
off of it, publishing royalties, everything, So you know, man,
So it's.
Speaker 3 (08:01):
All love and still you know, at the end of
the day is the music. That's what that's about. Did
you see this clip of Drake doing that interview with
the Bible.
Speaker 4 (08:11):
Singing Cuban Singing cub.
Speaker 8 (08:13):
And he said his favorite song favorite.
Speaker 4 (08:15):
So yeah, so big shout out to Drake.
Speaker 7 (08:17):
Man.
Speaker 4 (08:18):
You know that that's a that's a music connoisseur if
I've never heard one.
Speaker 8 (08:20):
If you let's get together and do a remix.
Speaker 3 (08:22):
Yeah, if you had to rate his delivery of his
deliberty performance.
Speaker 2 (08:32):
Between him and twenty one Savage the Boys and some
singers listen, Yeah, big shout out to twenty one because
he'll get on. Yeah, you gotta you gotta check it
about to he's singing matter of fact, singing sing matter
of fact.
Speaker 5 (08:45):
When he had his birthday party, he took our debut
album cover and he put his face on top of mind.
Speaker 7 (08:55):
Yeah.
Speaker 4 (08:55):
But I love him for it.
Speaker 7 (08:57):
I love it.
Speaker 1 (08:57):
Yeah, that's so amazing.
Speaker 3 (08:59):
You know, it's a testament to the music and the
stuff that you created. At that time that it's still
hitting like that the other elephant in the room. And
you can handle this however you want, and I will
respectfully just back up. But how do you handle because
it's such a legacy of all you guys and connected
to Puff and everything that happened, how do you handle
the moment like this and making sure you say the
(09:21):
right thing?
Speaker 1 (09:22):
Don't say the right thing.
Speaker 4 (09:24):
We just speak out truth. We just speak out truth pretty.
Speaker 1 (09:26):
Much because we just don't want our words getting twisted,
you know.
Speaker 8 (09:30):
And that's what it is. It's like people don't care
about your words, you know. We don't want to say
you're way different. But it's like there's a whole spin
on it.
Speaker 5 (09:38):
Like the only thing for me just personally is just
like who is how he is right now? You know
what I'm saying, Like him getting closer to God? You
know what I'm saying, because if you think about like didd,
he like his whole life he's just been. He has
nothing to prove, he has nothing in this earthly situation
to prove. But spiritual self probably needs to just get
(10:01):
more get more closer to God, which we all do.
Speaker 2 (10:06):
Yeah, so we don't we don't want We don't want
to give the impression that we are afraid to have a.
Speaker 4 (10:10):
Conversation about it.
Speaker 1 (10:11):
But we're here, we're.
Speaker 4 (10:13):
Really you know, to celebrate the tour.
Speaker 3 (10:15):
And yeah, for sure, for sure, it's just just complicated.
It's complicated for all parts. And you don't have to
say anything about this, but I will just say it's
like when I look at the Cosby.
Speaker 1 (10:26):
Show, I want to celebrate the Cosby Show.
Speaker 3 (10:30):
There's so many there's so much of that that it's
like you almost missed part of the celebration of it
because of situation that the one person involved, and so
it kind of sometimes in the history and legacy, it
sometimes ruins something connected to one person.
Speaker 4 (10:47):
Well, our passed to tell us, don't miss the message
from the messenger, so we'll you know, I love that.
Speaker 3 (10:54):
All right, So this tour on the positive and la
So how.
Speaker 1 (11:01):
Did you guys?
Speaker 3 (11:02):
You guys always talked this whole like are you all
connected all the time or did you just come together
for like did you reach out to each other?
Speaker 4 (11:08):
We have the same management company.
Speaker 1 (11:09):
Oh yeah, this is easy.
Speaker 2 (11:12):
Yeah, so this this was this was easy once because
Keema Kima and we speak all the time like we're
like you know that that big big sister.
Speaker 1 (11:21):
So your relationship has with standard all these years.
Speaker 4 (11:25):
I love that. So we we were conversing.
Speaker 2 (11:27):
We were just talking about like I said, Yo, man,
y'all gotta y'all gotta it's free money out here for y'all,
you know, as total, Like y'all gotta y'all gotta get
that back. Man, I got whatever iteration that is. Y'all
got to get that back because it's it's some it's
people out here, not only the money.
Speaker 4 (11:41):
There are fans that want to see y'all, you know
what I mean. So so you know.
Speaker 3 (11:46):
You guess them up and and then you're like, let's
do So.
Speaker 2 (11:49):
I spoke to management and was like, bro, how can
we get total on the road. But he was like, man,
it's gonna be So I called hers. She she hit
us back. She's like, Yo, we're gonna do it. And
then that's how that as far as because in case, well,
you know.
Speaker 4 (12:03):
We always showed yeah.
Speaker 5 (12:07):
Like so you know, if you just look at it,
like if you see our roster, you know the difference
between us and a lot of others that's out there
because there's a lot of tours out here. But we
really captured the nineties nostalgia.
Speaker 4 (12:21):
You know what I'm saying.
Speaker 1 (12:21):
We all came.
Speaker 4 (12:23):
Yes, we're that's our whole thing.
Speaker 5 (12:25):
It's like, I know, we have a lot of things
going on in the world today, but back then, remember
how how good it used to feel. Everybody just wanted
to have fun, just wanted to dance this party, you
know what I'm saying. So we're for that time, you know,
when everybody just pushed all their stuff problems away and
this party was in the side room.
Speaker 4 (12:45):
One to it.
Speaker 1 (12:45):
What's your favorite total song?
Speaker 5 (12:47):
My favorite one?
Speaker 4 (12:48):
Oh man, tripping you got tripping to get a kissing You? Yeah,
the one I love about it? Do you think about it?
The one I love it? Maybe I can't figure it
out that that's my That's that's what.
Speaker 8 (13:02):
Girl, that's that's a joint.
Speaker 4 (13:08):
Kissing you, kissing you, the original kissing You. It's just
they got so many. They have a catalog, A wild
case got a catalog, twelve has a song, oh man,
the one I wish we had? Which one is long?
Speaker 10 (13:22):
And man, we need a podcast They talk about the songs,
well wish they.
Speaker 4 (13:39):
Had record one of those records.
Speaker 3 (13:43):
You're looking back like bro, you could do a tour
of all the songs you wish you had and performing, Yeah,
can just feeling what the song would you perform on
this tour? The tours of the songs that you wish
you had?
Speaker 7 (14:03):
What is another song?
Speaker 6 (14:04):
You know?
Speaker 4 (14:06):
Let Me love you? And maybe ja.
Speaker 5 (14:19):
That one son all the jousy records?
Speaker 3 (14:23):
Yeah?
Speaker 7 (14:24):
Everyone?
Speaker 1 (14:25):
Which one?
Speaker 7 (14:25):
Which?
Speaker 8 (14:26):
Man?
Speaker 5 (14:27):
Give me love you for life?
Speaker 1 (14:30):
You again?
Speaker 3 (14:35):
Bro?
Speaker 6 (14:40):
You live? God love what?
Speaker 7 (14:47):
Let's go today?
Speaker 1 (14:49):
And then I'm gonna go to the tour.
Speaker 10 (14:54):
Man, don't get I'm going both of them.
Speaker 4 (14:59):
We're doing it.
Speaker 3 (15:00):
I'm gonna ask y'all, what are your songs? What songs
do you wish Total had?
Speaker 1 (15:04):
Do you ever think?
Speaker 4 (15:07):
Honestly?
Speaker 3 (15:07):
No?
Speaker 1 (15:08):
Really you like we got all the good honestly.
Speaker 3 (15:18):
I mean, let's talk about the time when Total first
came out and like what was what was even out?
Speaker 1 (15:24):
What were the other because it was a.
Speaker 8 (15:25):
Lot of group married j That's kind of how we
got started.
Speaker 3 (15:30):
Yeah, but who else there was other There's a whole
bunch of groups were out.
Speaker 1 (15:34):
There were girl groups which we don't see.
Speaker 3 (15:35):
Anymore, had already been out though, Like yeah, they had
been a long time.
Speaker 8 (15:42):
Everybody, and I think a stage came out at the
same time or just a little bit after us.
Speaker 3 (15:49):
God, there were so many girl groups, like even like.
Speaker 1 (15:57):
So many girl groups.
Speaker 2 (15:59):
When Total came out, that was a movement though, Like
that was a whole that that thing shut everything down.
Speaker 4 (16:05):
When Total came out, man, they.
Speaker 5 (16:07):
Were like the coolest R and B female everybody that
was like cool everybody, yeah, just everything. It was like, that's.
Speaker 3 (16:19):
What he was most proud of about Total and the
influence and the impact of the moment.
Speaker 8 (16:25):
How unique we were and are, and that we were
just able to stay true to ourselves.
Speaker 7 (16:31):
You know.
Speaker 8 (16:31):
Sometimes a lot of times the artists will get signed
to the label and the label sees them as one way.
And when we first was brought to Puff, we were
who we were. We originally were Total Opposites.
Speaker 1 (16:43):
That was the name of the group.
Speaker 8 (16:44):
Yes, yes, that was the name of the group. And
then Puff started calling us total, like yo, total, total, total,
and we were like that says a lot without saying
so much now, so that stuck. But we were always.
Speaker 3 (16:57):
Thou make it this like Facebook was called the Facebook.
Speaker 1 (17:04):
They took out the.
Speaker 3 (17:10):
Right because total opposites, like the total opposite one don't
really the same.
Speaker 8 (17:18):
To see what we were saying because from one another.
Speaker 1 (17:22):
The theory of it, but total just works.
Speaker 6 (17:24):
It works.
Speaker 8 (17:25):
So yeah, girls from New Jersey and you know we're
around the way. Girls had big dreams. We're able to
fulfill them. And I think that's another thing very proud
of is we had a vision, we had a goal,
we aspired to something, and we actually made it happen.
Like you know, because when we were growing up, you know,
to be on the radio, to land a job in
(17:48):
the radio, to get a job, to get a deal,
it didn't come.
Speaker 1 (17:51):
And you got to get there, and then you got
to keep it. Yes, you got to stay there, get there,
and then you got.
Speaker 7 (17:58):
To stay there.
Speaker 3 (17:59):
And we and you and you got to try to
do it without losing your soul or yourself.
Speaker 8 (18:05):
Thank God for the break, for the break.
Speaker 6 (18:09):
And I would also say, like I'm proud like she
was saying it.
Speaker 1 (18:13):
We did take the break.
Speaker 6 (18:14):
We were able to step out, be mom, be wise,
live normal lives and come back to this great career
and do it like we haven't skipped the beat.
Speaker 1 (18:28):
I love that, yo.
Speaker 3 (18:30):
But when you're out just mommy in those years and
you ever at the PTA meeting and somebody's.
Speaker 6 (18:36):
Mom comes running, No I didn't tell them, what do
you mean. I didn't tell them, like I was going
through a little something where I didn't want to see Total.
Speaker 1 (18:48):
Nothing.
Speaker 6 (18:48):
Don't talk to me about Total, no nothing. So my
kids did not know I was kem from Total but
everybody else Total. And my daughter came to me one
day and was like, Ma, she was like five. She
was like, I heard you was famous. And I was like, well, yeah,
I guess.
Speaker 1 (19:04):
How old did she when this happened? She was five?
Speaker 6 (19:07):
So then I told her, like, I showed her some
pictures of all of us. I showed her Keisha and Pam,
and then she was just like, well, what happened? I
was like, well, you know, I got married, I had you.
And she was like, well, I'm older now, So what
y'all gonna do? Y'all getting back together? And you know,
shortly after that, you know, things started coming to fluition.
It was heading down that road where Total was coming back.
Speaker 4 (19:27):
Yeah, they ain't have twelve that we been at PTA meetings.
Speaker 2 (19:30):
Oh yeah, mister one twelve, you need to cut that
check that donation for the school.
Speaker 6 (19:40):
I was, and.
Speaker 5 (19:44):
You know they kind of did the same. So you know,
we pretty much like raised a whole bunch of money
for like.
Speaker 4 (19:49):
Oh that's good.
Speaker 7 (19:50):
It wasn't.
Speaker 3 (19:51):
But then also this like people feel so connected to
this music entitled Like I was at a dinner and
Carl Thomas was having dinner in the same restaurant but
not even in the same area.
Speaker 1 (20:04):
And I watched was there.
Speaker 4 (20:06):
He was like a thing.
Speaker 3 (20:07):
And I watched Joe get up, go grab Carl, bring
him over to everybody.
Speaker 1 (20:11):
Then everybody's like, yo, singer.
Speaker 3 (20:13):
He started singing in the rush because he couldn't help
it because everybody else started singing. He was like, all right,
he starts doing Summer Rain and mister childs and everybody singing.
Speaker 1 (20:23):
Everybody's drinking. You watch everybody's singing Summer Raine.
Speaker 3 (20:26):
It was such a moment and I thought, Wow, imagine
having songs that no matter where.
Speaker 5 (20:31):
You are, yeah, and spontaneous.
Speaker 1 (20:37):
Pa, I don't know even want to see you walk
in the door. I want to hear so fa.
Speaker 4 (20:40):
I just want to hear it.
Speaker 1 (20:41):

from the okay set change now, okay, now you go close,
change now the choreographer down, The dances are coming in
and it's it's a it's a big production. We really
wanted to take out and make a premium on it,
having inexperience. We're trying to hit as many of the
census the five sinces that was six so as we
possibly could. Because want you leave and thinking that spiritually
