b ET Awards Best New International Act.
Speaker 1 (00:26):
Billboard says K one is Rookie of the Month. K
one out here making out with Kaylani and videos.
Speaker 2 (00:40):
I'm sure there's more headlines, one of the other, one
of the headlines that.
Speaker 1 (00:44):
We have missed. Give me some give me some life
headlines for you.
Speaker 3 (00:47):
Right now things have just been gunn whoa man, I
don't really know any other headlines.
Speaker 1 (00:53):
Your accents amazing, thank you?
Speaker 4 (00:56):
So is yours?
Speaker 1 (00:57):
I have no accent.
Speaker 4 (01:00):
Where are you from?
Speaker 1 (01:01):
I'm from New York?
Speaker 2 (01:01):
Okay, I just don't think we have an accent. I
think you're the one who has this amazing accent. Okay,
So you are from London, London, like specific London, East London.
What's the vibes there?
Speaker 1 (01:14):
I don't know nothing. No vibes.
Speaker 4 (01:17):
Not in wolf from store. There's no vibes.
Speaker 1 (01:19):
Is it like a suburban? Is it like hood? Is
it like both a little bit of class.
Speaker 4 (01:24):
Like getting a bit gentrified? Now, to be.
Speaker 1 (01:26):
Honest, how are you managing that?
Speaker 3 (01:30):
That's fine, Yeah, I mean I'm ready to get out
a wolf from Stowe anyway.
Speaker 1 (01:33):
So yeah, do they love you?
Speaker 4 (01:34):
There? They do.
Speaker 3 (01:35):
I'll be getting noticed quite a bit now are you
at the gym and stuff?
Speaker 1 (01:39):
It's just really weird what happens.
Speaker 4 (01:41):
They just come up to me and they're like, are
you okay?
Speaker 3 (01:43):
One, and I'm like, yeah, actually am, which is so
weird for me because obviously this is just all happening
so quickly.
Speaker 4 (01:49):
So it's a bit overwhelming, but it's good.
Speaker 1 (01:51):
What is the story? How did this happen? Quick? Like?
Where did you come from? How? What was the first
like give me the you know, some new people to project?
Speaker 3 (02:00):
In two thousand and twenty two. Yeah, twenty twenty two.
That was my first project.
Speaker 1 (02:07):
As an EP.
Speaker 4 (02:08):
Yeah.
Speaker 3 (02:10):
Slightly hated the songs on there, but yeah a little
bit because it was just so old when I did
when I'd done them, they were like some of the
songs were from like twenty eighteen. Yeah, but obviously knew
I had to put that out to like show people
the journey and stuff.
Speaker 4 (02:22):
Yeah, so I did that. That was okay.
Speaker 3 (02:25):
When okay, but it just wasn't the type of music
that I wanted to make. And I knew that, and
I just had to work towards get into that.
Speaker 1 (02:32):
You know how old at that time?
Speaker 4 (02:34):
Twenty one, twenty two?
Speaker 1 (02:35):
Do you even know who you are? Twenty one? Yeah?
Speaker 4 (02:37):
No, two.
Speaker 3 (02:40):
And then after that we put out a couple more singles,
and when I put our eyes wide open, that's when
it really started to move for me, like people started
to pick up a little bit, and then I dropped
it was Lord, I've tried after as we opened.
Speaker 4 (02:53):
No, that was before.
Speaker 3 (02:55):
Keep it not just safe, you know, yeah, and then
worse behavior. We I got dropped from my label two
days before as.
Speaker 1 (03:06):
Sick right now, yeah, super sick. Yeah, good for you.
I'm probably friends with them, sorry.
Speaker 3 (03:14):
Black bar okay, yeah, from the UK. And then me
and Carlin is that my manager, We said we just
don't know what to do now, like we were trying
to get distro deals and trying to get like a publishing,
but no one was really trying to give us anything.
And then we had worse behavior in the bank and
now me and Colin were just like, it needs to
(03:34):
come out one way or another.
Speaker 4 (03:35):
We just didn't know how to already.
Speaker 1 (03:37):
No, she was, oh, yeah, this was just.
Speaker 3 (03:40):
The single by itself, and then we were like, we
need to find a way to put it out, but
we didn't have any money to like mix or master it.
So my manager was just like, let's create a website
and put it on there and get people to buy
it for one ninety nine. If we get five hundred
people that have bought it, that's one thousand pounds into
our pocket and we can pay my engineer to mix
and asked to it quickly.
Speaker 4 (04:01):
We ended up selling like.
Speaker 1 (04:03):
I mean to that, not saying no, like not taking
no for an answer.
Speaker 3 (04:07):
Absolutely said like five thousand units or something like that,
which made us a good amount of money. Was able
to mix it moster it, put it on DSPs, shoot
more content for it, and after I put that first
video up, it just went and then we sold it
and everyone was like, oh my goodness. And then we
sold it out within two weeks because we were like,
(04:29):
people want what they can't have, So we sold it
out within two weeks and then put it up on
DSPs and it just went bow and then Kaylani, he
was like, you guys should do a remix to this,
capitalized on it, and I was like, you should jump
on it.
Speaker 1 (04:41):
How do you How did you even know her?
Speaker 3 (04:43):
We have mutual friends, so Destin Conrad is our mutual
friends got it and I was in Mexico with him
in twenty twenty four.
Speaker 1 (04:50):
But what did she see? Did she just like believe
in you and think you were super doll?
Speaker 2 (04:54):
Heard a lot.
Speaker 3 (04:54):
I think she had seen me on TikTok before and
then obviously saw me on Instagram for with me, and
then we just was connected from there. And then I
went to La worked on some stuff with her. I
had closed off the song on her mixtape while we
wait to I had that before I went to La
and she was like, I need something sexy R and B.
And I was like, I got sign but you gotta
(05:14):
keep me on it and she was like yeah, fire.
Speaker 1 (05:17):
Wait you to negotiate.
Speaker 3 (05:18):
Yeah, So then we did that and then obviously the
remix came after After that, it just went up man
shouts to kay Lonie.
Speaker 2 (05:25):
Then she came, she got she hopped on and hopped
on the remix. Whose idea was it to make the
remix and the video fire and hot and sexy like that?
Speaker 3 (05:34):
Me and my director Chris Chance were on a cool
and he was like, we need something that is just
gonna blow people away. And I was just like, what
if I kiss her? And he was like, are you
is she gonna be okay with that? And I was like,
I don't know, let me cool it. And I cooled
her and I was like, would you be done for
kissing me in the video?
Speaker 4 (05:51):
And she was like, yeah, I did that. And then
we just did it. We did it.
Speaker 1 (05:55):
You had no fear in asking that question.
Speaker 4 (05:57):
No, no, no, no to when the job's gonna be done.
It's gonna be done.
Speaker 1 (06:00):
It's for work. Exactly what are we doing here? This
is professional? Also, she's man cut. It's not a terrible
exact job to have to do that, poor you. And
then day on set, have you ever done anything like that?
Because actors always talk about, like in.
Speaker 2 (06:15):
Movies, you ask an actor about a love theater, they're
always like, oh, it's so stiff and so whatever.
Speaker 1 (06:20):
That didn't feel like that to me.
Speaker 4 (06:22):
No, I wasn't.
Speaker 1 (06:23):
We We went for it.
Speaker 4 (06:24):
Yeah, we knew.
Speaker 3 (06:25):
Were just saying we just had to get it out
of the way in it like you just say, it
had to be done. And if it if it weren't
organic like that, like if it was if it didn't
look real then it wasn't gonna work, you know, so
we have to just give it all.
Speaker 1 (06:37):
But no like uh no fear to go into that.
No nothing, No, look at you. Come on, come on fearless.
That's my name for you, K one, fearless.
Speaker 2 (06:46):
Let's get let's get to know because this is our
first time interviewing, first time here. So you did our
real life questionnaire.
Speaker 1 (06:52):
Your name is K. They call you K, which is
short fork one certificates K.
Speaker 2 (07:00):
No doubt heard you the last that's mad funny. First
name K, last name one, no doubt.
Speaker 1 (07:07):
What's the last thing? It was a croissant? Was it
any good?
Speaker 3 (07:10):
Because you know it's actually one of those panchokolaus, But
I didn't know how to spell it, so I just
put my song.
Speaker 1 (07:15):
Okay, your last go to song? Too many men?
Speaker 2 (07:20):
I thought that was karaoke song, your last you go
to karaoke?
Speaker 1 (07:24):
So correct? Too many men?
Speaker 4 (07:26):
BBK, you know boy, better know skept Jamie. No, what
is this old rap group from London?
Speaker 1 (07:32):
From London? Yeah, yeah, yeah, and you do this in karaoke.
Speaker 3 (07:34):
I don't actually go to karaoke, but if there was
a song I would do in karaoke.
Speaker 2 (07:38):
This is what you would do because you know all
the words exactly bar for bar okay, you're you've never
done karaoke?
Speaker 1 (07:46):
No, but you can sing like.
Speaker 4 (07:47):
That's I feel like people who sing shouldn't go to karaoke.
Speaker 3 (07:50):
No, but it makes it less one. It's gonna be
the people that don't have a clue about singing. You know,
And if you're going to.
Speaker 2 (07:56):
Do it, you have to do it now, exactly before.
It's like everywhere you go people, what you gotta do
it now?
Speaker 1 (08:02):
You should do it. It's good here in.
Speaker 2 (08:04):
State in New York in the thirty fourth Street area,
they got amazing.
Speaker 4 (08:07):
Keep trying to drag me, But.
Speaker 1 (08:08):
Come on, what is your superpower? We know we're so sexy.
Speaker 2 (08:15):
No, being sexy and sexy is your superpower? Where does
that come from?
Speaker 1 (08:20):
How do you? How do you? What is that?
Speaker 4 (08:22):
I don't know?
Speaker 1 (08:23):
Just how do you define that?
Speaker 4 (08:24):
Confidence? I guess confident, just being confident with in yourself.
Speaker 1 (08:28):
I saw in the video you gave the girl a
little one.
Speaker 4 (08:31):
Of these, yeah, and do I say, oh yeah, yeah?
Speaker 1 (08:35):
It read very confident there you yeah, very good? Who
is your celebrity crush? Palmer? That's cute? Why? Funny? Sweet?
Speaker 2 (08:48):
Pretty like what what are you like? All three like
a personality? Clear, you're not afraid of a big person.
What is your one thing on your bucket list? What
did I put to headline Coachella?
Speaker 4 (09:01):
Yeah?
Speaker 1 (09:02):
Wow, absolutely, that's a good one.
Speaker 2 (09:04):
Pet Peeve eating loud, disgusting? What if she's really pretty
and has the personality of Kiki Parmer?
Speaker 4 (09:14):
Nah?
Speaker 2 (09:15):
Still no yeah yeah so still no hurt you. What's
the last thing that sent you down a YouTube rabbit hole?
Speaker 4 (09:23):
The guys building houses in the jungle. I don't know
if you've ever seen.
Speaker 3 (09:26):
They literally just do it with their bands.
Speaker 1 (09:28):
With what dirt? Yeah, and they build a home.
Speaker 3 (09:31):
Yeah, like bamb They'll get like bamboo from the trees
and like wrap like like striped wood from the trees
and use that as string to put it.
Speaker 4 (09:40):
It's crazy. I'll be watching that till like folk looking.
Speaker 1 (09:42):
I've never seen this. I'm gonna watch how many of
these have people?
Speaker 3 (09:45):
Probably at least one hundred lovely I like that. Yeah,
I know they're amazing. Apporiately, they got like swimming pools inside.
Swear to you, I swear.
Speaker 2 (09:56):
In door no both, Oh my god, that's crazy. And
you're of course this is your favorite emoji.
Speaker 4 (10:01):
Yeah, the lip bite. I didn't draw it very well.
Speaker 1 (10:05):
There is a lip bite emoji? Why do I not
know that one? Damn second? Right now? Are you sure absolutely?
Speaker 2 (10:12):
Is it not something else? And you think it's a
lip bit? It's definitely lit, But you mean the regular lip.
Speaker 4 (10:18):
No, it's called a biting one as all.
Speaker 1 (10:20):
Oh ship, I have never seen that.
Speaker 4 (10:22):
Start using that one, so me an emoji that.
Speaker 1 (10:25):
I have never used? Is your go to emoji?
Speaker 4 (10:28):
Actually?
Speaker 1 (10:29):
Like, how often do you use that emoji?
Speaker 4 (10:31):
Time?
Speaker 1 (10:31):
Really?
Speaker 4 (10:32):
The time?
Speaker 1 (10:32):
Oh, you're a problem. Okay, it's a problem out here.
I don't know if you know with the lip bite emoji,
I'm gonna bust that out on somebody. They gonna be
like the lip the lipt bite emoji is fire. All right?
So what's happening? What are we preparing for EP that's
(10:53):
getting ready to drop? Exciting? Yeah, what do people need
to know about that?
Speaker 4 (10:57):
I'm jumping into two parts. Side to be said, the
asad comes.
Speaker 1 (11:02):
In June and.
Speaker 3 (11:04):
There's no story or concept behind it. I didn't go
into it with that mindset. It's just a body of
work that consists of a load of songs that I
genuinely genuinely love and that I hope other people will
love as well. I think being with my last label before,
like a few years ago, and like making songs that
(11:25):
I weren't passionate about, I felt the way that translated
to that my audience. It just it didn't connect because
I think I weren't connected with the music. As soon
as I put our eyes wide open because I absolutely
loved that song, I felt like the connection was just there,
and that translated to everybody else as well. So now
I'm just like my mindset is I just move with
(11:45):
with love and passion rather than just like trying to
chase a hit or whatever. You know, I just want
to like make stuff that I really really love.
Speaker 2 (11:52):
So you'll last longer that way, exactly, you know what
I'm saying, Chasing that just quality versus the moment exactly.
Speaker 1 (12:00):
Love that for you?
Speaker 2 (12:02):
How would you describe yourself because to somebody who hasn't
gotten to know you yet like your music yet, Like,
how would you describe your music?
Speaker 3 (12:12):
Soulful, sexy, just unapologetically me. There's sexy, there's vulnerable. There's
so many different sides to me.
Speaker 4 (12:22):
It's just you gotta bring me down to get there,
you know.
Speaker 3 (12:26):
So I hope that this project like shows a bit
of my personality because I'm very much just like a
introvert in the corner. I don't really say too much
kind of person So I hope that this music kind
of like gives an insight into me.
Speaker 1 (12:40):
So what is the most vulnerable song you think you
have on the.
Speaker 4 (12:43):
Project that's on the B side?
Speaker 1 (12:46):
What is it?
Speaker 3 (12:47):
It's called the Idea of Love. That's that super vulnerable.
It's just about me not feeling like I am enough
for somebody. And it's hard for me to write vulnerable music.
I was saying the other day, like it's a lot
easier for me to write the sexy stuff and it's
a lot more fun for me as well. Confidence yea,
(13:09):
the vulnerable stuff. I even struggled to just be vulnerable
with myself as it is. So putting that down on
paper as well and giving that out to people to
hear as well, it's hard for me.
Speaker 4 (13:17):
But it's something I'm working on.
Speaker 2 (13:19):
So yeah, but you wrote it, right, Yeah, exactly, he
wrote it. You're saying it, and now the world is
going to hear it exactly?
Speaker 1 (13:25):
Is that scary? Yeah?
Speaker 4 (13:28):
But I'm ready to.
Speaker 2 (13:28):
Me you're doing something good if you ain't a little
scared actually making boring music for sure.
Speaker 1 (13:35):
All right, so Billboard Rookie of the Month. That's exciting.
When did you get wind of that? And what does
that mean to you?
Speaker 3 (13:42):
I think it's weird for me because obviously coming from
London getting things like that, that's that us basis, like, yeah,
I'm really like reaching over the map, like even coming
here this time. We came here Loshing November terms and
it was just completely different, like coming here now. We
walked out the airport and someone was.
Speaker 1 (14:00):
That ain't not the girl that seems to pay your nails?
Speaker 4 (14:02):
And I was like, this is crazy.
Speaker 3 (14:04):
When into Whole Views yesterday, people were noticing me like
walking down the street.
Speaker 4 (14:08):
It's just mad.
Speaker 3 (14:08):
How do you feel that it's overwhelming? Because like I said,
I'm I'm very much an introverted person. So it's overwhelming.
But it's amazing. I'm so so grateful, really really.
Speaker 2 (14:19):
Great, especially when it's real, especially when they like genuinely
like connect with the music and really like just like you.
Speaker 1 (14:26):
And you know what I'm saying, you can't. That has
to feel good. It has to feel good. And then
what was the.
Speaker 4 (14:32):
B et thing.
Speaker 1 (14:32):
You got nominated for international? Yes, that's international. Who's in
the category. Who else in the category from the UK?
Speaker 3 (14:41):
Is Odell But I'm not sure if anybody you don't
have the hells?
Speaker 1 (14:45):
Yeah, those things EXCT you like awards and stuff.
Speaker 3 (14:49):
Obviously I'm waiting for their Grammy. But BETS is incredible. Yeah,
I'm just grateful to even just be nominated for It's
a madness.
Speaker 1 (14:58):
Are you going? Yeah?
Speaker 4 (14:59):
Absolutely?
Speaker 1 (15:00):
Yeah, you have to Yeah, come on, do the round, absolutely,
do all of that. All right, Well, when does the
EP drop?
Speaker 4 (15:05):
We have a date? A side is June twentieth, okay.
Speaker 1 (15:08):
A side June twentieth, and then touring towards the end
of the year. Yeah, towards the end of the year.
Speaker 4 (15:14):
Yeah, you went on to I did Europe tour.
Speaker 1 (15:17):
That must have been fun, incredible. What do you learn
from her?
Speaker 4 (15:21):
Just that I can actually do this.
Speaker 3 (15:24):
I was so nervous before before we went under that
doing the rehearsals, I was like, oh, I don't know
if I.
Speaker 4 (15:29):
Can do this, Like this is so nerve wracking.
Speaker 3 (15:31):
Why, I don't know. It's just like performing live is
just completely different. You know. I'm such a homebody. I
make all my music most of the time in my bedroom.
So to perform in front of that many people, especially
like London, oh too, I was.
Speaker 1 (15:44):
Like, oh this is crazy.
Speaker 4 (15:46):
But now I was incredible man, an incredible performer as well.
And just seeing her.
Speaker 3 (15:51):
I would never do any choreography or anything like that,
but seeing her like do all of that stuff, it's
just amazing.
Speaker 2 (15:56):
So yeah, don't never say never. I don't know you
might who wanted them a little easy.
Speaker 4 (16:01):
You know, little movement talk dance.
Speaker 1 (16:06):
No no, not a TikTok dancer.
Speaker 2 (16:08):
Girl, Never say never. It could go down, all right.
So we have a little game that we play here, right,
We're gonna do it?
Speaker 1 (16:18):
Are you gonna do it?
Speaker 2 (16:18):
This is Ivy. Ivy is my show producer. It's called
check it or let it slide.
Speaker 4 (16:24):
Check it means, oh, check.
Speaker 2 (16:25):
It, like you have to check somebody Like don't do that,
Like somebody runs up to you and takes.
Speaker 1 (16:31):
Off your chain.
Speaker 2 (16:31):
You'd be like, yo, hey you check them to check somebody?
Let it slide is like, don't worry about it, Okay, Sorry.
I didn't even I didn't even anticipate that there was
going to be a language.
Speaker 1 (16:42):
Oh my god.
Speaker 2 (16:43):
I didn't even anticipate that because you were giving me
like a blank stare, like maybe she doesn't walk.
Speaker 1 (16:49):
I'm like, no, she doesn't. Check it or let it slide.
Speaker 4 (16:54):
Okay, let's get it.
Speaker 1 (16:55):
Okay, come on, all right, let's start it off.
Speaker 5 (16:58):
Your boom watches all of you stories, but hasn't texted
you back in two days?
Speaker 2 (17:03):
Check it, immediately, play with me, sign somebody else to
play with out the gate. You don't even but right away,
like you do it. Checking happens right away. But like
what when you say I know you sold my stories?
Speaker 1 (17:20):
Yes, me back and I love I'm not even texting them?
Speaker 4 (17:23):
Cooling you? What are you doing? The hell? And two days?
Speaker 1 (17:26):
Crazy ahead?
Speaker 5 (17:31):
An artist you supported on the way up acts brand
new and public chack it.
Speaker 1 (17:37):
Really, I'm letting that slide. You know why? Because sometimes
I like to see who you are.
Speaker 4 (17:41):
I feel that I hear you.
Speaker 1 (17:43):
You know what I mean.
Speaker 4 (17:44):
I'm okay, I say less.
Speaker 1 (17:46):
Say less.
Speaker 5 (17:47):
K one was ready, but she's ready for all the smokes,
everything everything, you lost it.
Speaker 1 (17:54):
I said, let that slide. I'd rather see you, let
me see you.
Speaker 2 (17:57):
Don't don't act, don't fake it.
Speaker 1 (18:00):
Let me see who you really are. You know me
go ahead you.
Speaker 5 (18:02):
I like the wisdom you caught your friend's man out
with someone else, and he saw you see.
Speaker 4 (18:08):
Him friends man out with somebody.
Speaker 1 (18:11):
Your friend's partner.
Speaker 5 (18:14):
Is out on a date with somebody else or boyfriend
not your friend or whatever, and y'all caught eye contact,
like he sees that you see him out with somebody else.
Speaker 4 (18:22):
I'm cooling the bridge in and telling them to come.
Speaker 1 (18:25):
You are you're calling the friend?
Speaker 4 (18:29):
What you're doing?
Speaker 1 (18:30):
You know? Me and my girlfriends talk about this often. Yo,
what is that noise? No, Jean, you are so out
of pocket. Gotta check you right now. We're checking that terrible,
terrible ring. Wait.
Speaker 2 (18:47):
Oh, So I have this conversation with my girlfriends often,
like if you saw would my man or whatever, would
you tell me it's not I don't think that clear
all the time, because some people are in relationships, they
choose certain types of people and they know what they're in.
So why are you go in search yourself in their
relationship and what they got going on? And then they
(19:08):
make up and everybody hates you. I feel you on
the side.
Speaker 4 (19:11):
So it's a little tricky. That's a both It.
Speaker 1 (19:14):
Depends who or the scenario. I think I need. I
got questions before I check anybody. I'm not.
