Speaker 1 (00:06):
It's power the point what my same mind in the
building today?
Speaker 2 (00:12):
Hi guy in full promote promotion mode right now?
Speaker 1 (00:19):
What does that mean?
Speaker 3 (00:20):
What?
Speaker 1 (00:21):
What does that? What does that entail?
Speaker 3 (00:22):
I mean a press run of just is just running?
Speaker 4 (00:25):
Honestly, I went to I did Jimmy Kimmel last night,
and then hopped on the plane and went straight to
the studio for gm A and then I did the view,
and then I did a podcast, and then I'm doing
this one, and then I have a New York screening
in the Knicks game tonight and then some other things tomorrow.
Speaker 3 (00:45):
Good times, good time, whether you're sleep.
Speaker 4 (00:49):
On the plane, on the plane, yeah, little power naps
in the car. But I don't really like power naps
like that because I get angry, I get mad, like
twenty minutes, I don't I don't like it.
Speaker 3 (01:01):
I need like a good two hours, like.
Speaker 1 (01:02):
Don't wake me up, don't wake me up from this.
Speaker 5 (01:04):
But it's exciting. Tomorrow the movie comes out. Yes, tell
us what we need to know about the film. Let's
do that, and then we'll talk about fun stuff.
Speaker 4 (01:11):
Okay, okay, yes, Well it's an exciting, action packed intent
film from start to finish. Viola, Yes, Viola David.
Speaker 3 (01:22):
Legend herself in this movie. She's the President of.
Speaker 4 (01:25):
The United States, perfect and I am her daughter the
First Family, and I am very rebellious, pretty reckless at times,
but yet wise and smart beyond her years.
Speaker 5 (01:40):
When you get when somebody sends you a script and
they say, your mother.
Speaker 1 (01:45):
Is the president of the United States. Your mother is
going to be played by Viola Davis. Yeah what happens?
Speaker 3 (01:51):
I am like, okay, yes, tell me more. What else happens?
Speaker 4 (01:59):
And it's just it's so intense because we talk about terrorists,
deep spakes, ai. It's really heavy stuff, and it's things
that are truly happening right now that there's so many
things that are aligning to it. And it's like, yeah,
these are stories that need to be told, And what
do you have to do?
Speaker 1 (02:19):
Like what does that called? When you're to see if
you guys match chemistry? Do you have to do chemistry?
Speaker 3 (02:25):
Sometimes you do.
Speaker 4 (02:26):
I mean auditioning is just a part of the process.
Speaker 3 (02:30):
Still, it depends.
Speaker 4 (02:31):
Because I have an audition in a very long time
because whether I was behind the scenes on something your
or I just created the projects. So I was like, yeah,
I'm in it. But with this one. I only did
like one read through, which was understandable because I mean,
this is a more heavy film that I haven't been
(02:52):
seen in this light before, so I was ready to take.
Speaker 3 (02:54):
On the challenge.
Speaker 1 (02:55):
I love that for you.
Speaker 3 (02:56):
Yeah, No, it was fun, but chemistry reads.
Speaker 4 (02:59):
I mean I was with Anthony for like ten years,
so I think that understood that. But I mean we
kind of just jumped into it just knowing that it
was going to be a lot, and I think for
most of the film we're separated anyways, trying to get
back with each other.
Speaker 3 (03:15):
So yeah, it was a lot, but lots of lots
of fun.
Speaker 1 (03:18):
Have you spent time with her before though you'd met
her before, We've.
Speaker 4 (03:21):
Met each other in passing, like Jefferany Benson, you know
how it is like after parties and stuff, but you know,
working with somebody is day to day is different.
Speaker 5 (03:29):
Do you think, Marseille, that people are going to finally
start looking at you as like a young adult? Now?
Speaker 1 (03:34):
I mean I think that we do, right.
Speaker 5 (03:36):
But there's still an element of she's young, Marseille.
Speaker 4 (03:41):
Like, you know, it's always going to be like that,
you think, so, I I truly believe you think you're
gonna be like, I'm even if I'm a wife and kids,
is still going to be like, I still see you
as little Marseille, because that's just really what it is like.
And I get it growing up with somebody. I mean
(04:01):
I was basically two when y'all met me, and now
being almost twenty one, I know it could probably feel
weird and different and it's like you need to be
a certain way forever. But I mean, life is life,
I'm like, and everybody grows up differently. There's different ways
of growing up. So nobody's going up fast or so
or whatever, because it's just life. We're all trying to
figure out what's going on together.
Speaker 5 (04:22):
You don't seem like you're being so rebellious because a
lot of child actors they either want to become adult
real fast, or they want to be rebellious to let
everybody know, or they go and they go play like
a heroin addict in a movie because they want people
to see them in a certain You don't seem to
be pressed. You seem like you're I'm chilling naturally.
Speaker 1 (04:43):
Kind of evolving into who.
Speaker 3 (04:45):
Yeah. Well, the thing is, there's no right way to
do it.
Speaker 4 (04:49):
You know, if you're excited to be.
Speaker 3 (04:52):
A heroin addict in a film, go for it, you know.
Speaker 4 (04:56):
I guess, But I mean for me, like I just
always want to do it makes me happy and dressed
the way I want to look and whatever makes me
happy with that.
Speaker 3 (05:04):
But I'm not leaning into something.
Speaker 4 (05:05):
I mean like I want to be a part of
this project, or I want to wear this because I
look grown, or someone's finally going to see me in
this light.
Speaker 3 (05:12):
I'm never jumping into that.
Speaker 4 (05:14):
It's my natural progression of growing up and the things
that I like and the things that I want to
see within myself and what I want to see for
the projects I create.
Speaker 3 (05:23):
And it's just normal.
Speaker 4 (05:25):
And people are going to say what they say anyways,
because you know, people grew up differently.
Speaker 3 (05:29):
So I just do me and keep it moving.
Speaker 1 (05:31):
What is making you happy these days?
Speaker 3 (05:33):
Like?
Speaker 1 (05:33):
What era are you in right now? What are you
listening to? What are you like wearing?
Speaker 3 (05:39):
What are you like? I am? I'm pretty I'm in
like a soft girl era right now. Pretty chill.
Speaker 4 (05:48):
Prioritizing my peace and my happiness and finding that wherever
I can, and yeah, just being with my loved ones
and just trying to be happy.
Speaker 3 (06:00):
That's pretty much it.
Speaker 1 (06:01):
You're a happy girl most of the time around, I'm.
Speaker 3 (06:02):
An have a girl most of the time. I like
to laugh.
Speaker 4 (06:04):
I like to be with my friends listening to everything
under the sun.
Speaker 3 (06:10):
Right now, I'm like the little juke box.
Speaker 1 (06:12):
See what you're watching and what you're listening to.
Speaker 3 (06:15):
Did I write it on there? I don't think. Well,
that wasn't a question. I don't think.
Speaker 1 (06:19):
What's your favorite karaoke song?
Speaker 3 (06:21):
Oh? I like Silk Sonic. Okay, after Last Night is
my favorite song?
Speaker 1 (06:25):
Can you pull it off? I? Do you have pipes
like that? Can you sing?
Speaker 3 (06:28):
Yeah?
Speaker 1 (06:29):
The body it?
Speaker 4 (06:31):
Yeah, it's funny that I always said I'm an actress
that sings, Like if I have to sing, I'll do it.
But that's the thing I'll get so nervous about, Like
I did mass singer now right right right? But do
I see me doing it in any other light or
like pulling out an album? Probably not, or it would
be anonymous I thought. I talked about that with my mom.
(06:52):
I was like, I would do one if in.
Speaker 5 (06:54):
Like a fake like you don't know who, like an
AI album? Yeah, yeah, like it's you, but we don't
know who it is.
Speaker 4 (06:57):
It's like a right, like how we didn't know her
for a minute, but like if you really knew her,
you knew she was Gary Wilson, Like it would probably
be something like that.
Speaker 1 (07:05):
I feel like you're thinking this through. I feel like
it might be low.
Speaker 3 (07:09):
We'll see one never knows, who knows.
Speaker 1 (07:12):
You know, say, last time you were here, you were promoting.
Speaker 3 (07:15):
Uh little yeah a minute ago.
Speaker 1 (07:18):
Yea, yeah, it was a while ago, and.
Speaker 5 (07:19):
I asked you what you was running around doing on
the low? You said you wasn't doing nothing on the low.
Speaker 1 (07:23):
Do you remember. It's a really funny clip. You're like,
I'm not doing nothing on the low. It's like, are
you on to load? You're doing this? Are you're doing that?
But you're turning twenty one.
Speaker 5 (07:32):
And now you could do anything and you could do
anything you want to do at twenty one.
Speaker 3 (07:37):
Yeah, but I'm still not doing nothing on the low.
Let's be real. Why not? Because I'm just I'm just vibing.
I'm just telling I don't really I don't like people
like that.
Speaker 1 (07:46):
Really.
Speaker 4 (07:47):
Yeah, I'm a homebody. I like watching my shows.
Speaker 1 (07:51):
You're not in the club, No, you're not drinking.
Speaker 3 (07:54):
It stinks in there. It's sweaty. For real, it stinks
in there. It's sweaty.
Speaker 4 (07:59):
I've been in the club before and I just don't
I don't like it. Men are kind of weird. So
it's just like, you know, I just like being with
my person at a house and you know, quiet si
the spa, cooking and just working out and just kind
of like having some sense of stability.
Speaker 1 (08:20):
You really are in your soft girl era.
Speaker 3 (08:22):
Yeah, that's all I really like right now.
Speaker 1 (08:24):
But you've never did that, huh?
Speaker 5 (08:25):
You never liked like into like even coming up with
the clubs or partying or any of that kind of stuff.
Speaker 4 (08:31):
Did you?
Speaker 1 (08:32):
How did you skip that whole phase?
Speaker 3 (08:34):
I don't know.
Speaker 4 (08:34):
I just I think growing up with old people, like
growing up with like my grandparents and like my older
aunts and my uncles who kind of just were cool
in their own way, but and just never really did that,
and like their hustles and their hobbies were just different.
So what I was into was different. So I think
(08:56):
that's kind of what it was.
Speaker 1 (08:57):
Are you excited about turning twenty one?
Speaker 3 (08:59):
Though? Like?
Speaker 5 (08:59):
Does this is there anything because you pretty much you
have access to things because your life's gonna change.
Speaker 1 (09:04):
Is there anything you're looking forward to.
Speaker 3 (09:06):
I don't know if it's going to change at all.
Still doing me.
Speaker 5 (09:10):
She gave me a list of things that you could
do at twenty one. Didn't we really think things you
could do?
Speaker 3 (09:14):
What can you do? Aside from drinking?
Speaker 1 (09:16):
There are things you could do at twenty one?
Speaker 4 (09:18):
Hold on, I mean, I know you can't rent a
car soil You're like twenty.
Speaker 1 (09:22):
Five twenty five is the rental car age? You always
could vote? You've been voting.
Speaker 3 (09:27):
Yeah, I've been voting.
Speaker 4 (09:28):
I know you can't have an alcohol sponsor for anything
at twenty five as as a producer. That was that
was bothersome to me. I was like, dang, so even
if I don't drink alcohol, I can have an alcoholic
sponsor for any you can't do or any can you.
Speaker 1 (09:41):
Can't have, say, sponsor your barbecue or your event? Don't
you do like a.
Speaker 3 (09:44):
Cookout or yeah I have a cookout.
Speaker 4 (09:47):
But obviously that's like for HBCU students. So I kind
of knew that. But like if it was for my
twenty first birthday party, I probably wouldn't still be able
to have an alcohol sponsor because I'm not twenty five.
Speaker 1 (09:57):
Who knew?
Speaker 3 (09:58):
Yeah? How crazy?
Speaker 4 (09:59):
Is that because you're you're newly twenty one, so it's
not like you're supposed to drink.
Speaker 3 (10:03):
You know, you're not supposed to like to do s
before you can drink the douce you.
Speaker 1 (10:08):
Like, hmmm something specially here.
Speaker 3 (10:10):
Yeah, it's interesting.
Speaker 5 (10:11):
So wait when you turn twenty one, then is there
anything you're going to celebrate?
Speaker 1 (10:14):
Is there going to be anything that?
Speaker 4 (10:16):
So I'm planning a GTA birthday party and I've been
saying this is love this, Yeah.
Speaker 5 (10:24):
I will not I will fly in because I missed
your bed, miss Shrek and you miss so mad.
Speaker 3 (10:30):
Yes, you have to come to this one for people.
Speaker 5 (10:32):
That don't know Mar saying to the eighteenth Shrek themed birthday.
Speaker 3 (10:36):
Party, Yeah, Shrek two to be exacted.
Speaker 5 (10:38):
Oh, no disrespect when I heard when I heard Shrek too,
because you know, like I said, most people turn at eighteen,
you would think they want to they want to do
something that seems more adultish.
Speaker 1 (10:50):
You said, no, well, Shrek has grown to me.
Speaker 4 (10:52):
I mean like it's it's adult humor if you watch it,
like really closely.
Speaker 3 (10:58):
And it's it's funny.
Speaker 4 (10:59):
It's funny for every and you know I've seen it,
you know, for kids that were like two and five ten,
and I'm like, nah, there's a way to elevate this.
Speaker 3 (11:08):
Because it's a forest, it's far far away. I loved it,
so there's there's a way to do.
Speaker 5 (11:12):
It was so cute, it was very and half of
Hollywood was there. Yeah, and lots of people show people love.
Speaker 3 (11:17):
You, thank you, you know that.
Speaker 4 (11:19):
I that was probably one of the best days of
my life because my family, like I have such a
big family, but they're from all different parts of the
world and I rarely see them most of the time.
Speaker 3 (11:31):
But having everybody all together.
Speaker 4 (11:32):
That I haven't seen in so long kind of intertwined
with like black Hollywood and he was just like my
auntie working on Damn Jill Scott.
Speaker 3 (11:44):
And k Kelly and I'm like, wait, what's going on?
Speaker 4 (11:47):
This is so random, looks so fun, and it was.
It was such a blessing. I think for GTA, I
want to make it more intimate because I feel like
I missed so many parts of having such a big
birthday party because it looks so grand and it's like
what you dream and the pictures are great and it's
everything that you dreamed of. But at the same time,
it's like I feel like I missed so much at
(12:08):
my own birthday party.
Speaker 3 (12:09):
There's spend so much money, like for six hours.
Speaker 4 (12:14):
With things that you don't even get to experience because
you're you're you're so like in into.
Speaker 1 (12:19):
The It's like people at their own wedding. They don't
have fun at their own wedding.
Speaker 3 (12:23):
That's what.
Speaker 4 (12:24):
Literally, I've always said that I want to I want
to get married and then have like an after party
and we celebrate the wedding. But I wouldn't want to
be like so in control of everything because that's not fun.
So I know this time, I want to keep it
more intimate and.
Speaker 1 (12:40):
I can't wait. I'm so there one vibes.
Speaker 3 (12:44):
Yeah, it'll be fun, all right.
Speaker 1 (12:46):
So Marseille, what is next for you?
Speaker 3 (12:47):
My love?
Speaker 1 (12:47):
We got this film going on.
Speaker 5 (12:49):
What you know?
Speaker 1 (12:49):
The world is yours right now?
Speaker 3 (12:51):
Baby? Yeah.
Speaker 4 (12:52):
So I filmed the movie right after G twenty called,
Oh we're trying to we're working on the site currently.
But I produced it with Jamie Fox and it was
a it's a father daughter film which I did with
Courney me Vance and I love it so much. It
is everything that I truly wanted in a film of
(13:15):
it being grounded and real and raw and all different emotions,
and I am very excited for that one to come
out and you produce this one, say I produced this one.
Speaker 1 (13:27):
I have visions of you.
Speaker 5 (13:28):
And like your producer meetings, because you know, you hear
all these things about like how challenging it especially black
actresses and some of the challenges. And I think of
you not only being a black actress, but you being
an underage black actress and not just the actress, Like
you're coming in there and you're leading out of Imagine
meetings and zooms and yeah.
Speaker 1 (13:49):
You've been, but you've been doing this since she was little,
like this baby ball like it was a baby, it
was a boss baby in there. Where does that come from?
Speaker 3 (14:01):
How do you do that? Honestly? I think it comes
from how long I've done it?
Speaker 5 (14:08):
And what should people know about? Like what that what entailscause?
People expect, right, you coming as a producer thirteen or not,
like yeah, or twenty or not, Like they expect you
to have some kind of vision and be able to
lead in some type of way.
Speaker 1 (14:24):
I would imagine for sure.
Speaker 4 (14:26):
I think growing up I've had different levels of learning
my voice and understanding my power in these rooms because
to be in all realness, I jumped into little not
really knowing what a producer was and what it really
entailed and all of that. So that whole press run,
all the meetings I had afterwards with building the company,
(14:50):
I was learning. So most of the time I was
kind of like stepping back and understanding. And I mean,
as a child, that's kind of naturally what you do.
It's like, all right, these grown people are talking and
actually understanding what's going on, and let me understand and
let me observe. And then throughout that there's been different
changes of like tonally how you communicate with me, and
(15:11):
you know, different things that I've had to make a parent, like, yeah,
I'm not fourteen anymore.
Speaker 3 (15:16):
I know what I want. I'm grown.
Speaker 4 (15:18):
Don't ask this person and this person and this then
my parent and then this to you know, when I'm
right here, you know what I'm saying. So I've had
to kind of break those boundaries within my own team
and people that I work with are studio heads because
they're just used to it being a certain way. And
as a producer, you're just constantly growing, especially from the
(15:40):
transition to childhood to adulthood. So it's always a thing
of like, Okay, I don't need.
Speaker 3 (15:45):
To do that anymore.
Speaker 4 (15:46):
I got this part, or I don't need you to
do that anymore. Let me handle this. And that's kind
of like the era that I am in now. It's like,
all right, I get this, now, let me handle that.
Speaker 1 (15:58):
You probably learned a lot by yourself in the process too.
Speaker 4 (16:01):
For sure, And I learned how also how other people
act when you do take over that space, and it's
definitely a learning curve personally and work wise.
Speaker 3 (16:11):
Yeah.
Speaker 5 (16:12):
Yeah, are there moments or they're like specific moments like
this or like that, like somebody goes around you to
talk to somebody or.
Speaker 3 (16:21):
Yeah, I mean that happens. It happens a lot. Just now,
what do you do? What do you do?
Speaker 1 (16:25):
You stop them in their track.
Speaker 4 (16:26):
Quite literally just stop them or or I mean, I'm
not too big on confronting people unless I'm really like, hey, y'all,
you need to stop. But I'll text them on the
side or I'll call them on the side like hey,
let's not do that again.
Speaker 3 (16:39):
Just if you have a question.
Speaker 4 (16:41):
Please tell me, and please talk to me, Please text me,
like I'm here and I'm listening and I'm open and
they have to come to me about it anyways, so
like you have to be straight up with me, And yeah,
I'm more of that kind of person of like I'm
not gonna put you out there, but I'm gonna let
you know just so you keep it in the back
(17:03):
of your head so next time it does happen and
I do check you not.
Speaker 5 (17:07):
Like do you ever surprise yourself though, Like, holy shit,
I bodied that meaning or I handled that situation.
Speaker 4 (17:14):
Yeah, I surprised myself a lot a lot recently too,
because I think I'm just now getting into.
Speaker 3 (17:21):
Being on my own and handling things.
Speaker 4 (17:23):
I'm like own, you live by yourself, right, Like, Okay,
it's a little different, but I do have a place
in LA that's kind of like a crash path that
I have on my own. But I still most of
the time live with my family, and you know, we
travel everywhere.
Speaker 3 (17:37):
We're by coastal, so we have a space.
Speaker 4 (17:39):
In Atlanta, LA looking in Miami right now, so like
a bunch of different places, but most of the time
I'm really traveling by myself.
Speaker 5 (17:49):
Yeah, you were about to tell me something though, I
know about right now and being.
Speaker 1 (17:53):
Surprised by yourself and being uh yeah, like you said. No,
it's just like not surprised, but like impressed.
Speaker 5 (18:01):
With yourself, like my body that I did that, yeah
right now, like a moment of that.
Speaker 3 (18:07):
Man, I mean, like I was saying that.
Speaker 4 (18:09):
I mean, there's just there's so many there's so many
moments where I can where I can think of it.
Speaker 3 (18:13):
I mean, it happens too often, That's the thing.
Speaker 4 (18:16):
It's been happening so often, especially during this whole press
run where I'm doing this right now, but there's a
whole bunch of things that I need to work on
after the fact, or even with my.
Speaker 3 (18:25):
Festival or for this movie or It's a lot going on.
Speaker 4 (18:29):
So I'm constantly surprising myself and the things that I
can do and the things that I can handle, which
is fun.
Speaker 1 (18:37):
I love this for you. I love it all for you.
Speaker 3 (18:39):
Thank you.
Speaker 1 (18:39):
What do we what is the big what is the
five year, ten year?
Speaker 3 (18:44):
Like?
Speaker 1 (18:44):
What is the vision for yourself? Or are you just
in the moment now?
Speaker 4 (18:46):
I am in the moment, but I do have so
many aspirations and things that I want to do. I mean,
I I this festival, say, Summer Cookout is literally like
my baby I want that to grow into something special
and big throughout.
Speaker 1 (19:04):
Tell them what it is, where they can.
Speaker 3 (19:05):
Where they can they sort, okay, yes, yes, So.
Speaker 4 (19:15):
It's a destination festival where it goes from one place
to the next annually. This year we are in Houston,
which is like my home state, which is lots of
fun and good time. It's gonna be a good time
and it's catered to the city. It's catered to the culture,
and it's HPCU centered, so we highlight our young Black
(19:36):
creatives and HBCUs and it's lots of fun. We have
black owned Businesses's like a homecoming family reunion all in one.
That's why we call it the cookout and not like
a big festival. So it's it's special. It's special for sure.
Speaker 5 (19:51):
Now where do you keep all your stuff with Like
if somebody wants to like find out you have it
