Speaker 1 (00:00):
Hating young, Good morning morning.
Speaker 2 (00:02):
Good to be here.
Speaker 1 (00:03):
Back home, Yes, from the gather round.
Speaker 2 (00:06):
Yes, it's good to be back. It was a good
week in Adelaide.
Speaker 3 (00:10):
There's a good feeling around the place and it was
nice to come back with at least one win.
Speaker 1 (00:14):
Yes.
Speaker 4 (00:15):
Fremantle beat the Gold Coast by ten points in Adelaide
on Saturday, one hundred to ninety. The Suns led for
most of the game, but you guys had a brilliant
fourth quarter.
Speaker 3 (00:25):
Yeah, which was really positive. From the Adelaide game, we
sort of reflected and spoke about our ability to move
on from mistakes wasn't great and we saw that in
the result and I think on the weekend we obviously
didn't start the best, but it was really pleasing that
we were able to move on from our first half
and keep playing our footy and eventually it turned and
(00:46):
we got the results.
Speaker 5 (00:47):
So it it was it like playing at the Norwood
over mate, smaller ground, you know, back to grassroots footy.
Speaker 2 (00:52):
Yeah, it was really good.
Speaker 3 (00:53):
It was a bit nostalgic going back and playing at
grassroots and it was nice that the crowd was really filled.
It felt like there was a great atmosphere at the
oval and it was a really good, really good night.
Speaker 4 (01:06):
Fun fact, your midfielder James Aish was actually a player
at Norwood, two time premiership player, so he would have
known his way around the ground.
Speaker 3 (01:16):
He sure did, And yeah, he was a bit of
a favorite within the crowd. Everyone was sort of yeah
when he touched the ball, everyone sort of got up
and about And yeah, I think he has a pretty
good record at norwod Apparently some of the locals were
telling me that he's played there the last twenty eight
times he's played there, he's won twenty seven times, just
kept the record going.
Speaker 5 (01:35):
So it's a famous name as well.
Speaker 3 (01:37):
So it is it is, so everyone was pretty happy
to see him back there and I think he was too.
Speaker 5 (01:41):
Yeah, so to gather round as a whole, it's obviously
much more fun than going on a hub during COVID.
Speaker 3 (01:46):
Yeah, and I think the fact that it was a
week long was sort of nice and instead of those
longer hubs.
Speaker 2 (01:50):
But no, it was a good It was a good
feeling around Adelaide.
Speaker 3 (01:53):
There was a bit of a buzz and yeah, I
think it was a great concept and I'm looking forward
to going back and playing there in the next couple
of years.
Speaker 4 (02:00):
I mean, one of the best bits of the game
was Matt Johnson not only got to kick his first
AFL goal, but it was the goal that put you
in front. I mean, that's there the moments that you
dream on, aren't they?
Speaker 2 (02:09):
Yeah, exactly.
Speaker 3 (02:10):
It was a really important time in the game, and
it was just really special moment for john Oh and
I think it was it was almost good that he
kicked it because it meant that we all came in
and really got around him and it sort of got
us going and we sort of had a bit of
belief going to that last little bit of the game.
Speaker 2 (02:24):
So, yeah, really special moment.
Speaker 5 (02:25):
I'm trying to convince my wife how good a footballer
Sean Darcy is because she thinks everyone should be glamorous
and you know, kick it like you, youngie, or you know,
play like calybse wrong. I seid, he's a ruckman who
does this incredible job. And he was monstering the ruck
on the weekend, wasn't.
Speaker 2 (02:37):
He He was?
Speaker 3 (02:37):
He was really dominant and played a critical role for us,
and yeah, sometimes it's not pretty. You just got to
get your hands dirty and he did that in the
weekend and created a contest and gave our mid's first
use and he was really important in getting the result
for us.
Speaker 5 (02:50):
Yeah, you see the confidence because he's plucking it out
of the ruck at times and just becoming a giant
ruck rover.
Speaker 3 (02:54):
Yeah, he was a big boy and when he throws
his weight around and makes a difference.
Speaker 4 (02:59):
We mentioned that amazing final quarter that saw you secure
the game, But the Dockers haven't won a first quarter
all season. I mean, you know, we're not still not
that far into the season, but haven't won a first quarter.
Speaker 1 (03:11):
Is that something that you're looking at.
Speaker 3 (03:13):
Yeah, I tell me we've spoken about. Yeah, we speak
about starting fast and physical. It's something that we probably
haven't done. And something that we've noticed is, yeah, we're
sort of waiting to be punched in the face until
we throw another counter punch, right, which is something we
don't want to do. We want to be throwing the
first punch and being proactive in our role. And we're
making a few adjustments to try change our mindset to
(03:35):
start the game a little bit more proactively and try
and get on the scoreboard. And on the weekend, we
didn't get it right. And it's something that we've got
to keep working on But as I said, you'd rather
win the last quarter than the first quarter. So hopefully
we can get it right, get ourselves on the front foot.
But it was positive that we were able to come
back on the weekend.
Speaker 5 (03:52):
Yeah, the kind of thing you're talking about, it happened
a couple of times. Is really noticeable. Last year the
game against the Giants who were way behind, and then
getting the final against the Bulldogs and a lot of
effort to have to come back from five or six
goals down.
Speaker 2 (04:03):
It is and it's something that we don't want to
keep doing.
Speaker 3 (04:05):
Yeah, one thing that we feel as the strength is
our ability to run out games. And we always felt
like our second half was stronger than our opposition last year,
and we did a lot of times come from behind
and win, which is not where you want to be
a lot of times. But yeah, it's positive in that sense.
So if we can tidy up that first half in
the first quarter, it should put us in a good
(04:26):
spot knowing that we're good at running out games.
Speaker 1 (04:28):
It's got to be the easier thing, doesn't it.
Speaker 4 (04:30):
Because I always think that surely psychologically coming back from
you know, when your wigh down is really hard, so
full credit for Yeah.
Speaker 2 (04:39):
Yeah, we definitely prefer to be a well.
Speaker 4 (04:41):
Ahead Yeah yeah, and Young from the Doctors is with us.
After a couple of weeks away, Fremantle a back to
play the Western Bulldogs adopt Us on Friday Night, bounced
down at sixteen. Why is Friday night foota always just
that extra bitic slashing?
Speaker 2 (04:55):
I'm not sure.
Speaker 1 (04:56):
I know.
Speaker 3 (04:57):
Growing up, I always used to love Friday night because
you'd come home from school and chuck the footy on
and obviously the only game that night, so everyone's watching
TV games an atmosphere, so yeah, it's always a special occasion.
Speaker 2 (05:09):
Yeah.
Speaker 5 (05:10):
Well, we talked about on and off here about that
game against the Bulldogs of final here at Optus last year.
That's something to put back into the and push it
out of the memory banks. Mate. But like you said,
you want to get off to good start exactly.
Speaker 2 (05:21):
Yeah.
Speaker 3 (05:21):
We don't want to have been in a position when
we were last year and have to come back. But yeah,
if we can get off to a really good start,
hopefully that our legs will be able to get us
through and we can play a more of a four
quarter effort, because I think we saw in the last quarter,
particularly against Gold case that when we bring the right
intensity and urgency, we're a hard team to play against,
and I think we've lost that a little bit for
(05:43):
large periods, so hopefully we can get back to that.
Speaker 4 (05:45):
The Bulldogs have been a bit hit and miss so
far this season, but they're pretty familiar with Optus Stadium now,
not least having played the twenty twenty one Grand Final there.
What do you expect from them?
Speaker 3 (05:56):
Yeah, well, I think when we've seen them at their best,
they can be really damaging. We've got a lot of
really good players, particularly through the midfield and up for
they've got a few big keys, so we certainly will
be wary of that. And we know when they get going,
as we saw last year, they can put on score
really quickly and they can be really damaging. So we're
going to have to bring our best right from the
(06:17):
start and yeah, be really fierce in the contest because
that's where the game will start.
Speaker 5 (06:21):
Yeah, cheeky ledge or two for Rory Lobdown and that
their forward line on the weekend, Yeah, stearing up a.
Speaker 3 (06:27):
Bit they might there probably won't be coming from now.
It's probably not my strength, but yeah, I'm sure they
will be, and it'd be interesting.
Speaker 2 (06:34):
We're looking forward to it.
Speaker 3 (06:35):
It's going to be a good contest, and yeah, they've
got a lot of good players, so we won't be
just focusing on Rory. But yeah, I'm sure there'll be
a bit of tongue in cheek.
Speaker 1 (06:43):
It's always interesting when there's an X involved.
Speaker 4 (06:46):
The same thing is going to happen with the Eagles
this week because really really will be play.
Speaker 1 (06:50):
Yeah, so very interesting.
Speaker 4 (06:53):
Sam sweep caw Ski has a calf injury.
Speaker 1 (06:59):
How long do you think that's going to be a
problem for.
Speaker 3 (07:01):
Hopefully not too long. I think it's a pretty good result.
Hopefully one or two weeks. So he was moving well
yesterday and hopefully he's back out there soon.
Speaker 6 (07:10):
An important player, he gets a few injuries, doesn't he
gets a bit frustrated. It would be frustrating, it would be, yeah,
particularly because he plays such an important role for us.
But yeah, this looks like it's not too bad and
hopefully he's back out there very soon.
Speaker 5 (07:22):
You just want to dig a bit deeper. You said,
there's not really your forte to be throwing sledges around it.
You're one of these quiet achievers out there. You talk
much or yeah, I know your backline, you talk quite
a bit.
Speaker 3 (07:31):
Yeah, within within the back line. I certainly with my teammates,
I talk a lot. But yeah, I sort of action
speak louder than words to me. And yeah, it's probably
not my strength. I'm not really quick witted and know
what to say. I'd rather just go win the ball
and let my footy do the talk.
Speaker 5 (07:45):
Yeah, when you run out right, Yeah, I notice a
lot of players running out shake hands. Your shake hands
every time if someone extends a hand at started a game.
Speaker 3 (07:53):
For the game, yeah, if they extend I will, but
I won't go seek into shake hands.
Speaker 1 (08:00):
Actually do it at the end of you're in the zone.
Speaker 5 (08:02):
It's a Grand Final and it's the youw and Collingwood
and a Decos sticks his hand out with you.
Speaker 2 (08:05):
Yeah, you get a shay all right.
Speaker 4 (08:09):
Free Metal still don't have a time frame on a
return for NAT five. But is it true he's set
to receive special boots from Addi Das to save his
troubles and feet.
Speaker 2 (08:20):
That is a good question. Actually, don't a.
Speaker 1 (08:22):
Foot fixer they're calling it.
Speaker 3 (08:24):
I know he will be looking at getting some supportive
shoes because he's obviously got a very sore.
Speaker 1 (08:29):
Foot football boots.
Speaker 3 (08:31):
Yeah so, and he loves his added loves his added
as boots and shoes.
Speaker 2 (08:35):
So I'm sure they'll sort something.
Speaker 1 (08:37):
Out for him. Sure they will difference.
Speaker 2 (08:40):
Yeah, hopefully it makes a different how bizarre.
Speaker 5 (08:42):
Yeah, it's good to see him on the on the
track on the news last night. But we'll see how
we go with that.
Speaker 2 (08:47):
Yeah, all right.
Speaker 4 (08:48):
Bounced Down is six ten, Friday night football at Opta Stadium.
Speaker 1 (08:53):
Good luck, thank you very much.
Speaker 5 (08:54):
I want to see you do one of those young
and hangers over the top of lobby on the weekend.
Speaker 2 (08:58):
Worries
