Speaker 2 (01:04):
It's a great day.
Speaker 3 (01:06):
You got a big event coming up. Are you all
a great day?
Speaker 5 (01:10):
Stressful but great day. Absolutely, a wonderful event that's coming up.
This Saturday is called a Pause and Clause event that
is happening downtown Sanford on Fort Mellon Park from ten
to two where you can come out and celebrate with us,
have a good time, meet Santa Claus, bring your pet,
your family and just have an all time good day
(01:31):
with us.
Speaker 1 (01:31):
I have to know, I have to know a kid
Santa Claus cost a a pet Santa Claus cost b't
what has to what you think about like Santa Claus
and specializes in taking photographs with pets, has to be
a higher values in a goal or al do you
just repurpose someone who's already working for the county and
(01:51):
Satan you're wearing.
Speaker 2 (01:53):
The suit on a seat, you're the one getting pet on.
Speaker 5 (01:57):
No, we have a great Santa Claus that actually doesn't
work for.
Speaker 2 (01:59):
Us at all.
Speaker 5 (02:01):
Right, volunteer this time and this is the thing is
like a second third year doing it.
Speaker 2 (02:05):
Very nice.
Speaker 6 (02:06):
He's great.
Speaker 7 (02:06):
I know because we got our picture with our cat
Lucky last year at Police and Claus at this event,
which was great.
Speaker 6 (02:13):
It's a really fun time. But also and now I
want to know, are you doing the like Raby shots
for animals because I believe it was only like five
bucks for us.
Speaker 5 (02:23):
Well, no need to whisper. You said it right, it's
only five bucks. We're doing discount at Raby shots and
micro chips as well. That absolutely we're doing it for
five bucks only.
Speaker 2 (02:33):
Damn.
Speaker 4 (02:34):
Really, that is such a great help for families right now,
you know, trying to make every dollar stretch, and you know,
there's been a lot of reports of more and more
people reaching out for like pet food pantries and lower
cost veterinary care.
Speaker 3 (02:47):
So and you get a picture with Sama.
Speaker 5 (02:49):
Yeah, no charge.
Speaker 1 (02:50):
Can they go to those chips for my wife?
Speaker 6 (02:53):
Wife might be more than five bucks.
Speaker 5 (02:55):
We see that we're going that way. Everybody's gonna be eventually.
Speaker 1 (03:01):
All right, So we so it's a big event and
the good the good thing is if you're not familiar
with Fort Mellon Park in Sandford, Sanford already a legendary
city here in central Florida, one of the cool like
what's the the what's that terminate terminology they use for
like those those classic American cities they call them like
heritage city something like that.
Speaker 3 (03:18):
Yeah, like the heritage town. It's kind of like what.
Speaker 1 (03:20):
Sandford is, right, our historic You got the brick you
got the brick buildings, you got the beautiful setups, you
got the shopping down there, the wonderful food. You can
walk around with your cocktails or beer if you want
to do that. But even better because you're right there
on Lake Monroe. You're right there on the lake. It's
just absolute beautiful this time of year.
Speaker 5 (03:35):
You just can't lose, No, you cannot. And we're taking
over the streets, so we're blocking off the streets. We
have many many vendors, food trucks, and the fire truck
actually going to be there from Stanford as well too.
Speaker 2 (03:45):
That's awesome.
Speaker 5 (03:47):
Absolutely.
Speaker 2 (03:47):
Man, do you have a dog?
Speaker 5 (03:50):
Not at this time.
Speaker 3 (03:52):
Do you have a cat?
Speaker 5 (03:54):
No?
Speaker 1 (03:54):
But you know what the funny thing is is that
actually is pretty common. Matter of fact, I just heard
a conversation and coming in or today when I was
kind of tooling around on the news.
Speaker 2 (04:03):
Is that very thing like lifestyle?
Speaker 1 (04:05):
You know, people are now really starting to make cognitive
decisions on what kind of pet they get based on
like where they're gonna be, what they're doing in their lifestyle.
Speaker 2 (04:12):
So it's actually very common.
Speaker 5 (04:13):
It is very common. I do want another one, but
I will in due time soon as my wife allows
me to get.
Speaker 3 (04:20):
Are you a big dog guy or a little dog guy.
Speaker 5 (04:22):
I'm a big dog guy.
Speaker 3 (04:24):
The bigger than the bigger.
Speaker 5 (04:25):
The bigger and older.
Speaker 2 (04:30):
You like big old dogs?
Speaker 5 (04:31):
Oh? Absolutely, Jim, he.
Speaker 3 (04:35):
Used to have a mastiff, right, Yes, that's what was.
Speaker 5 (04:38):
Yeah, I've had two.
Speaker 2 (04:40):
I love them. Is that not the greatest breed in
the history of breeds?
Speaker 5 (04:43):
They are the greatest breed. But they don't pay any
bills and are the laziest dogs I had.
Speaker 6 (04:48):
And they eat and they eat, they eat.
Speaker 5 (04:51):
Yes, sir, they do.
Speaker 4 (04:52):
Having a teenager at home, you will, but you will
never find me.
Speaker 1 (04:55):
I'm telling you, man, I loved you know. I got lucky.
My dog lived to what is the eleven or thirteen?
Thirteen years old? My mask have been to the thirteen. Yeah,
and what he's just like having another kid. It is
just absolutely wonderful.
Speaker 4 (05:08):
You're a cat person, you can also adopt cats at all.
Speaker 5 (05:11):
Absolutely, we have dogs and we have cats. And guess what, guys,
at this event, adoptions are going to be free.
Speaker 4 (05:17):
Way really really adoption really wow really, Now, remind folks
what comes with that adoption. I'm assuming spaying and neutering.
Speaker 5 (05:25):
Absolutely, you get all the necessary shot, the micro chipper
and the sparing neutering, and we register that chip for
a whole year. So really all that comes.
Speaker 2 (05:33):
For wow, So he don't heah, don't whisper so free.
Speaker 1 (05:38):
So okay, let me ask, So when you guys do this,
you bring the animals that are gonna be down there
from the shelter right now, So theoretically you could go
online right now and actually see some of the pets
that are going to be available down Saturday.
Speaker 5 (05:50):
Absolutely, you can definitely go visit our website at similar
County Pets dot com and see what animals have available
and come on down the center to see the animals
down there as well. So we're taking quite a bit
of cat's end all.
Speaker 4 (06:02):
That's awesome, And you guys have had a really challenging year, right.
I remember seeing local news reports and how much over
capacity you guys are.
Speaker 5 (06:08):
Yes, we were once at one hundred and fifty percent
over capacity. We and the community came together and we're
not there anymore, but we could still use your help
to come out and adopt a pet.
Speaker 2 (06:19):
Yeah, yes, so let me ask.
Speaker 1 (06:20):
I mean, I know I know that this you usually
with the giving season, it's you know, it's usually a
one way scenario. Is this an event where people can
also bring things to donate to the shelter or are
you guys not doing that there?
Speaker 5 (06:31):
Absolutely no, we're taking donations down there as well. So yeah,
definitely you can visit us down there to do donations
and we're accepting met the shelter as well. So again, hey,
stuff around your house, we take a monetary we take it. No, tangible,
not intangible, we take everything.
Speaker 2 (06:46):
Now Jack has an old dishwasher and stove.
Speaker 6 (06:48):
I do.
Speaker 7 (06:49):
I'm about to roll up to the curb tonight. Now,
I figure animals could sleep in that.
Speaker 3 (06:56):
We want al to come back. You guys.
Speaker 5 (07:00):
Say just bring it, but no, I won't say that.
Speaker 6 (07:02):
Yeah, I'll leave it at the curb.
Speaker 2 (07:04):
Is this the only job you've had with someone the county?
Speaker 5 (07:06):
Yes?
Speaker 2 (07:07):
Really? So you've been in this job for how long?
Speaker 5 (07:10):
Over nineteen years?
Speaker 2 (07:11):
Nineteen years? And what I mean?
Speaker 1 (07:13):
Did you just look for a job with the county
and this is what you got? Orre you actually look
for this particular job.
Speaker 5 (07:18):
I will tell you I came from a background. I
worked in childcaw I was a director for child care
facility and I've always loved animals And I just saw
this job become available and I apply for it. In
nineteen years later, I'm still here.
Speaker 3 (07:30):
Yeah, you must really enjoy it, because I mean, that's awesome.
Speaker 1 (07:33):
There are a lot of challenges. You know, we talked
to other shelters and stuff throughout the city and state,
and you know, it's it's rarely, it's rarely, like, hey,
these are great. You know, there's always a need there,
whether the shelters are overcapacity, whether it's short on food
or or something like that.
Speaker 2 (07:50):
It's just always seems to be in need in that
in that community.
Speaker 5 (07:53):
It is definitely always a need for this community. So guys,
please please cut to help us shelter out, especially ours,
and someone kind of animal services some dogs out of
this shelter.
Speaker 4 (08:04):
Absolute and again there's free adoptions and if you already
have your pet, getting five dollars raby.
Speaker 5 (08:09):
Shots, microchips and five dollar microchip.
Speaker 6 (08:14):
Okay, okay, no, no, no, no.
Speaker 2 (08:17):
You didn't have to lower your glasses on that.
Speaker 6 (08:19):
I only ask you for a fiver.
Speaker 2 (08:20):
My man, my man did his glass.
Speaker 3 (08:22):
He did.
Speaker 4 (08:22):
He was like, all right, five dollar microso okay, so
five dollars microchip, five dollars raby shots, free adoptions, and
free pictures with Santa as well.
Speaker 3 (08:32):
Absolutely trucks and all kinds of fun.
Speaker 5 (08:34):
It's going to be an amazing day. The way to
connect the community and just bring your family out. Even
if you don't come to a doctor, just come visit
us at at the polls and close event.
Speaker 7 (08:42):
Al can you get free pictures with Alan Harris if
you show up?
Speaker 6 (08:46):
Will he be there?
Speaker 5 (08:47):
You know y'all know Alan Harris. He's very photogetic.
Speaker 4 (08:50):
So absolutely yeah, Jimmy has a man crush on him.
Speaker 6 (08:54):
Who doesn't.
Speaker 2 (08:57):
I hear he's really difficult to work with.
Speaker 5 (09:01):
Who told them that.
Speaker 3 (09:04):
He?
Speaker 7 (09:04):
So you mentioned donations, you're welcome. What what are some
of the items that that you would be looking for
for if people are you know, arout, they're looking around
their house, they have things, you know, what would you
like donated?
Speaker 5 (09:15):
We take like say, blankets, we take comfiters, we take
dog food, towels, don dish, soap, We take everything that
you got around house. So if you don't think we
can use it, we probably.
Speaker 3 (09:27):
Could now, but not toys, not what we do take.
Speaker 5 (09:31):
Toys as well, to just be careful of no tennis
balls please.
Speaker 2 (09:34):
Right exactly would you rather be new?
Speaker 1 (09:37):
I mean obviously you know you can't just pick up
a bunch of your dog's old toys and bring them down.
Then you know, bringing something new?
Speaker 5 (09:41):
Now, bring something that, Yeah, definitely new is preferred. But again,
if they're gently used, we will take them. And I
use the word gently very very highly, like you.
Speaker 2 (09:53):
Dropped it once and that's that's it.
Speaker 3 (09:55):
Area where do folks go to get all the information?
Speaker 5 (09:58):
Absolutely, you can go to our website at Similar County

Speaker 6 (10:32):
I'm brigging lucky. He's getting shot again.
