the Lakers are coming off a playinggame. The Nuggets have had some time

the chemistry is always there, butyou always wonder. You got a Lakers
team who was embarrassed and the lasttime they were here early game you shouldn't

seeing how the Nuggets actually deal withthat initial serves from the Lakers to me,

that's going to say a lot,okay, because that's that's the thing
I've you know, and the threegames that they played this year weren't particularly
close. Nuggets won all three onetwenty four, one fourteen back in March,
one fourteen one six in February,and one nineteen one o seven back

You know how I feel about restingguys in week eighteen, all that kind
of stuff and like, for instance, the Browns this past year, they

were they were on a roll,they were hitting on all cylinders, and
they decided to sign Jeff Driscoll outof nowhere, pumped the rest everybody,
and it created a disaster. Youknow, sometimes you gotta balance. I

the Lakers made a couple of adjustmentsto their roster, you know,
trying to get to this point.And there's the one guy who played at
Colorado that I still think, man, he is a valuable asset and you
definitely want to don't want allow thisguy to get going. And Spencer DINWIDDI
right, that's a guy that whodefinitely he plays on both ends of the

floor. But that's in another aspectof this matchup that is a little different.
It's not the same mix of guys. They still have some of the
same core guys who were part ofthe Lakers team that swept, but they
have a nice group of guys thatthey added to try to go somewhere on

will not do this based on hisattitude, but I hope the Nuggets players
don't take the frame of mind,well, hey, this is the same
team we faced last year. Weswept them, so we know we're gonna
have the mentality to do it again. So yeah, I don't know if

you higher on the Rockies or higheron Aves? So if it's the Rockies,

time of the year playing in theplayoffs and with expectations being as high as

throw the rookies at the Broncos intothe mix because they both have some things

is why I love living here inDenver because it's turned into a sports town

and those championships are expected from yourthe teams that you root for. Just
feels a little bit like the Avesare kind of going the wrong direction as
they head into the playoffs. Ithink you're what two and four and five

good down the stretch for the Aves, and I guess you're kind of hoping
that they'll pick that back up.But once again, okay, losing can

do one or two things for you. It could just drive you deeper in

Man, it sure looks like wehave to draft a quarterback. And
yet it's got to be the rightfit, the right one. And if
we had the tip sheets as towho everyone else was taking to be easier
to answer that question. Yeah.I mean they weren't going to give up

any state secrets. That much wasobvious. Sean Payton did talk about giving
up multiple picks for a quarterback.The hypothetical relative to the what the compensation
is, it's it's a lot oftimes driven by who else is interested?
Is George and he's talked to allthese teams in front of us, and

obviously depending on how much further yougo up, And then it's also if
there's someone else doing the same thing, and so that I think George said
it best at the very beginning.That certainly is a possibility, and then
it's how much you can pell it. George Peyton talked about the draft class
itself. I do think it isa good quarterback class. There's seven eight

quarterbacks that we like that think canplay in the league one day. I'm
not going to get into you knowhow we have them rated or in the
top ten. But it is agood quarterback class. We've it's been fun
getting to know them, you know, seven or eight of them, and
so we think we can get aquarterback early. We think in mid rounds.
We think there's gonna be quarterbacks,you know, throughout the draft that

are interesting to us. George Peytontalked about the draft pictions for the Broncos
from these so called experts. Youtake it with a grain of salt.
I mean, really, we don'teven know who we're picking at the time.
You know, we're at twelve.We don't know who's going to be
there. We're going through every scenario, every scenario in the first, the
third, the fourth. We don'tknow. So I don't know how anyone
else knows. And then when weknow, it's only gonna be Sean and

in the league. It's really goodto have a pulse, and then no
one knows. George Payton also talkedabout the possibility trading up for a quarterback.
Yeah, I would just say,if it's the player you think can
change the landscape of your organization movingforward like a quarterback, then you do
whatever you take to get them.And if there's a consensus in the building

of love in the building and you'reaggressive and you try to get them,
doesn't mean you're going to get them, but you try. And so we're
open to everything. We're wide open. And then some incredibly handsome reporter decided
to get away from all this quarterbacktalk and ask a football question. With

the change in the kickoff rules,does that change how you evaluate players in
terms of body type and does itchange the value that you would assign overall
players now that a kickoff has beenreemphasized. Man, I think it's a
great question. It's fun that we'redoing. I mean when I say it's
fun, I think there's a littleunknown. I think this the distance traveled

is going to be not as far. So you know, when you're covering
a kick, speed was fairly importantrelative to getting as a coverage unit,
getting down the field and get intothe ball carrier. And we've taken that
whole group and said all right,we're gonna put you guys ten yards away.

I think certainly it could you couldsee probably a little heavier unit than
where speeds. It's it's certainly gonnaput a premium on your two returners because
you have to have two and uh, and then that box where you're kicking

of gains there. We've got agood returner. We certainly Uh as you
look at the personnel though, Ithink the blocking schemes as you return it

I think. And and to yourpoint, do the body types possibly change?

Yeah? How much does that change? When we see teams players in
the draft that there's a few elements, there's traits, all of that,
but then there's also this mindset youknow that some some players possess that tend
to maybe uh transfer over and intothat level. But I think that is

it's I could feel that reporters smolderinggood looks as he as he asked the

has suddenly re emphasized the kickoff andthe way that this was gonna do.

Mike has like retired like two orthree times, so to come out of
retirement or special they exactly begin himto come out of retirement to do what

he did, because we know whatthe Broncos special teams units have looked like
over the past couple of years.And we saw Marvin Mimms as a rookie
go to the Pro Bowl as areturner. So that tells you where the
special team you had been elevated to. So I give Mike westoff by cold
Wicker and that group and that andthat group as a coaching step and as

players a lot of credit for whatthey were able to do. And these
rules now are definitely going to benefitthe Denver Broncos drastically. One more time,

with you. Listening to that pressconference being there for today, I did
not get the vibe that that isa team looking to aggressively move up.
I mean, we heard you heardthe cut sheet comments we just did a
minute ago. I just that didnot seem like an organization that is aggressively
pursuing moving up. In fact,when they talked about moving up, even
sounded kind of defeated, like likemaybe they'd explored that option that wasn't gonna

be feasible. If you had askedthe Broncos this question a couple of weeks
after the season, ended, youwere probably received more replies that the team
was going to move up. Thinkabout what Sean Payton said a couple of
weeks ago at the owners meeting whenhe was asked about the team moving up,

and he was saying that, youknow, it's it's something that's realistic.
Yeah, obviously it's always realistic,but it's not, in my opinion,
the wisest thing to do at thisparticular time. Like I mean,
hear and I cut by George Peyton. They could get a great player at
twelve, because we know that whenit comes to certain positions, there's a

lot of depth. You can agood player at twelve, great player at
twelve, especially if you got fourquarterbacks and three receivers going ahead of you
that are pushing other stuff right inyour lap. Yes, because usually what
happens there's always one or two movesthat take place on draft Day that no
one anticipated, and then desperation seeksin because now you have teams right behind

their division rival were looking to leapfrog them to get their particular players,
in some cases may be the sameplayer. So this is where the game
that I call like, when welook at it, we're going to see
on draft days, some teams aregoing to be playing checkers while others are
going to be playing chess. Andthe Broncos are in a great spot.

(28:44):
Are they in the top ten?No, they're still sitting at twelve,
But, like George Payton said,they received calls from teams wanting to move
up. Yeah, and we talkedabout this. I don't know how much
of the show you listened to lastnight. Yes, let in town jornthe
Peyton kind of confirming that today therehave been teams that have been calling about
moving up. I happen to knowthat there's a team that wants to move

up, whether or not they're successfulin doing that. But the La Rams
are definitely looking at that as oneof the teams. And I believe that
they are on an offensive tackle,specifically the one from Penn State. But
we'll see. Well, I didyou entertain that? Because if that means
that the Broncos are still able tostay in the first round, still add

more draft capital for twenty twenty four, twenty twenty five, I'm like,
why not entertain it? Because Iknow everyone is humdrum about you gotta go
get a quarterback. It's Paddick inthe room, and it's just like,
well, you still can go geta quarterback, and it's like it's got
to be the right quarterback. Aslong as you go get a guy that
you feel fits your system and you'rewilling to build around him. Guess what

that makes that guy the right damnguy. Well, I'm a big proponent
of taking a flyer on somebody daytwo, day three and taking a look
and seeing what you got with him. If it doesn't work out, then
you didn't mortgage the future, andyou're back in line with all the ammunition
in the world next year. Oh, by the way, you're probably picking
a little bit better than twelve atthat point, and you got yourself in
line for another quarterback if assuming youbelieve in them. But we've been over

(30:11):
this had nauseum for months now,and just it doesn't make sense to move
up for the quarterback when you don'thave the support system in place. It
doesn't make sense to move up ifone falls in your lap and you don't
have to give up capital, Okay, but if mortgaging everything to move up
leaves you gut it and unable tobuild around you. We have a very
proven track of how bad That ishow it hinders a football team, right.

(30:36):
It not only enders the football team, but it gets guys fired.
Yeah, it wastes valuable years onguys' careers that could be winding down.
And the whole idea is to upliftthe fan base and rebuild the structure of
the organization where you bring that standardwhich I played under and I walked into

(30:59):
the Broncos organization with the standard.It is about the continuation of it.
I know we're always talking about whennew coach comes in, a new culture
comes in, right, but that'spart of the old culture that needs to
be reinstated. What that standard is, and the standard is winning, and

that's something that this fan base hasbeen desperate for and been thirsty four And
that's why everyone is like, youknow, trade you, your momma and
your and your dog to move upto go get a quarterback. But if
being shaped out the way I thinkthey will, the Broncos could sit at
twelve and get their quarterback or facewith the option of moving back. I

think it can move back and getthe quarterback. That's just me. I
mean, I don't think J.J. McCarthy's getting beyond five or six
I really don't. Well, he'snot the only damn quarterback in this draft,
right, So that's what I'm gettingat, is the people who have
bought into those reports that Paul Allenup there in Minnesota when he came out
here Denver and went back and saidto Sean Payton loves stage in my cart.
I believe that's true. I do. I don't believe the Broncos are

going to be able to get him. We'll see, but there are other
quarterbacks in this draft that you canget much later. Again, I've talked
to the plenty of people who thinkyou can get Boneux in the third round.
Boat mix doesn't sound that bad ifyou're taking him in the second or
third round. If you trade back, you multiply picks, you get that
guy, You get a center toput in front of him, you get
a corner on the others side,So you get that guy with hell it

around him. Guess what, allof a sudden, it doesn't sound so
bad. It's not that I'm opposedto the quarterback. It's that I'm opposed
to mortgaging everything with you. Wecan go skipping through fields together during the
break. Quarter back, I'm notholding your hand,
