Welcome to It, Broncos, CountryTonight, Budge all Bride, Nick Ferguson,
Grant Smith, what's going on,Big ferk. If you hear the
voice, you know who it is. It is yours truly, Nick Ferguson.
That's his voicemail message. By theway, you're a call him,
that's what if you hear the message, screams it at you. Just like
that. I was like, hey, every time every time him and Mario
Vantanzy voicemail message messonoge no use thewisdom woe calls me. I have this

(00:21):
phrase that I always say, andit's like, uh, pretend to call
me right now. You got toget up the Hello Joe house and meat
you tag him, we bag him. I always do some I always do
something stupid like uh, I do, but I only do it when people
are calling me to do guest spotson other radio stations. Yes, Like
I'll be like, uh, Benjaminall Bride's phone of incredible handsome, thisess

(00:43):
incredibly handsome Vegamin speaking and uh itjust to see like and they're like,
wait, what is that really him? Or is that a voice message?
That's what they're they're trying to figureout like Mario V. Tansey's voicemail will
mess you up every time he sayhey, yo, hello, and then
he goes into an obs kid. It's Marty, I'm like you idiot every
fall for him to every single timein a minute, how are you calling
him the idiot? And you knowevery time I'm curly monologuing myself as the

(01:07):
idiot. That's what are you doing. That's what I was doing. The
I'm in the the D and Flearner group. And if you don't get
what that is, you didn't listento press conference today with Sean Payton and
George Payton, which we will getto. Some people out there continue their
streak of getting a great question inas noted by either the head coach or
general manager. I'm not going tomention any particular Benjamin all Right that did
that, but just someone did.Oh you taking another victory lap, because

(01:32):
if I'm not mistaken, I thinkit was last night when you and Grant
were having a conversation about something youwere patting your cell phone back. I
would be patting myself on the backright now, but I have patter's elbow
from doing it too much. Sonow I'm running a Victory Lap. Yes,
so I was wondering why you hadthat bag of ice right there,
and yeah, a little bit,a little bit too much on that.

(01:53):
I got a lot of stuff toget a big show tonight. We're gonna
have a Ryan Leaf on which,by the way, if you heard the
chuckle slash cough in the middle ofthe press conference from a member of the
media, that was me reading RyanLeaf's tweet to me, uh during the
press conference. So that means you'reyou were not paying attention, that's what
you just think. It was likethe ninetieth quarterbacks question and I was tasking.

(02:13):
I was like, all right, and I look around. I got
this motification. Wait a minute, that Ryan Leaf. You know, just
you know, to follow each otherso I get notifications if you felt like
if you you know, if youwere to tweet. Grant doesn't have a
Twitter, but if you did.Uh. So you know, there's a
few people I have notifications on forand that was one of them. And
he said, I so listend.I was like, Hey, I'm about
to hit this press or anybody gotany questions and right and tweeted at me

(02:35):
and he's like, hey, youguys, are you going to the Steelers'
Super Bowl parades that you're paying theirquarterback all year. I was like,
oh my god, the top Ohthis is like I read that in the
middle of presser, LA and youcan hear it. This is why you
should not if you have Benjamin Albright, you should not multitask. Grant you
and I have seen Ben tried tomultitask while he's doing the show. Right,

(02:59):
So you in the press conference,I mean, that's a dead giveaway
that you're not paying attention. Itwasn't that giveaway, but you know what
does you didn't care? Right?Right? Yeah? Of course question is
you right? Yeah? So wegotta run and leaf coming up eight o
five. That'll be fun, goodchance talk to him. I want to
talk to him about what it's likegoing into a situation as a rookie quarterback

(03:21):
and what it takes to set arookie quarterback up for success. Who better
to ask than you know, youknow what, There's so many questions that
I want to get to with Ryanbecause he's His story is definitely a very
interesting story. I mean the highsand the lows, and who better to
give us like the true in andouts of what it's like to be an

(03:46):
NFL quarterback, Like, what doesit take to set that guy up for
success? The immense amount of pressurewalking into that environment, coming from a
collegiate level where you dominated. Nowyou're walking into a situation where you have
grown men with mortgages, kids, tuition, Some guys have a wife and
a girlfriend. Right, you know, how do you manage that? Right?

(04:06):
So the message getting that information isgonna be so key five six,
six nights. There's a text lineyou guys want to get involved the conversation.
Lakers is gonna take on the Nuggetsfirst round of the playoffs. I
for one, was loving it.I was hoping. I was like,
dude, can we sweep them again? And there can there be another?
When's the last time the Lakers beatthe Nuggets. It's been a while,

(04:30):
They've only done it. They've onlydone it like three or four times in
the entire Lebron James era regular seasonat postseason combined. Well, the one
thing about this is when I watchedthe Lakers defeat the Pelicans and I knew
they were facing the Denver Nuggets again, and I was thinking, why what
was it over under on whether Lebronwould gets swept again. And the first

(04:51):
thing I thought about Lebron's legacy becausewe constantly have these conversations debate, well,
who's on a mount Rush Moore ofbasketball A go all this barber shop
talk. But I like to thinkthat this is important series for Lebron's legacy,
believe it or not, because ourlast fond memory was all the Lakers

(05:12):
being swept. So I know AnthonyDavis said, Look, they heard the
back and forth talking from Nugas playersand they were waiting for this matchup.
See the one thing I love aboutsports, it gets to a point where
it's put up a shut up time. Talk is cheap, and we know
Nicola Jokics, it doesn't do anytalking at all at all. I wish

(05:32):
the Joker would do more talking. No, you don't know. I wish
you would trash talk. What kindof trash I want to know what kind
of serbian draft talk there. Iwant to know what kind of trash talk
he would have. Yes, okay, he may tell the guy I'm about
to take you to the left andgo to the right, and he just
may say in your face, that'sit. That's the level of his trash

(05:53):
talk. Actually, you know whatI think he would do. I think
he would do like passive aggressive trashtalk. You don't talk about like that
movie was it a Definitive Funeral orwhatever, where the two guys are out
there. You smoke. You smokewith what you wear it's most expensive.
You don't we're talking about the scene. I'm talking about hot Shade or in
the break anyway, they're like, but they're both they're insulting each other,
but they're both giving each other complimentsthe whole time. And what you got
on burberry? What do you smell? That's some good smell. You must

(06:14):
have a lot of money. Youmust really come up this. It's like
this whole and it's improvised to you, but it's like this whole, like
thirty second thing where there. Ifeel like Yokic would be that kind of
smack talker. He would probably saythat your weakest the my weakest pony or
something like that. Right, that'shis level of trash talk because he's right,
he loves his horses. Well.I would love to see Yoki's trash

(06:36):
tar. It might be similar tothat of Philip Rivers, because if you
ever heard Philip Rivers trash talk,it's the most ridiculous, hilarious thing that
you could hear a person say,you would find yourself because he Andrew luck
were both kind of like that.Yes, you're laughing more than being pissed
off, which was the point. It's just hardy. Yes, it's just

(06:58):
like what did he just saying?Clean? It's like the Will Smith of
trash talking exactly. That's exactly whoPhilip Rivers is, you know. And
and well he was Bolo tie too, which I know Grant Pills is.
Yeah, he's got both sized thirstday and he's got the mustardest yellow shirt
I've ever seen, and he's rockingthat. I could My skin tone wouldn't
allow me to get away with that. Is that mustard or canary yellow?

(07:19):
It's more hot mustard, like Donald'shot mustard, you know what I'm talking
about, Like it's a magdonder McDonald'shot mustard yellow. That's what that is.
That's more spicy mustard with a littlebit of brown sugar in it.
That's what it looks. That's whatit looks like. Yeah, that's good.
Yes, there you go, rightthere, you put that on the
dodge of dog. I'm just saying, he's right. My skin tone wouldn't

(07:41):
allow me to get away with that. I guess. I try to wear
yellow and then all of a sudden, it highlights every every blemish I have.
Yes, you cansty complexion. Howdo you know if you can wear
it if you've never worn it before? Because I put yellow on my skin
before, and the reflexion of aneyefel with flashlights, you know that I'm
not gonna get away with that.See the thing is, you say you
put yellow on your body like shavingyour chest with mustard. You guys remember
the yellow tea? Do you guysremember the yellow come on? They had

(08:03):
the meeting over there, the yellowteas, the Indiana one, the one
I got at the gift shop.Because I don't know, maybe this I
do remember it. Yellow is notyour coach, thank you? Or wait
a minute, right the trashtop right, I just set myself up for the
yellows utric. I think wait aminute, yeah, five six six was

(08:28):
a text line. We'll get touh, we'll get to the text line
here and just just a few butwas there? I mean, we're all
okay with the Lakers, where nobody'sbothered by the Nuggets taking on the Lakers
in the opening round. I meanthey had the late. Last time the
Lakers beat the Nuggets was a regularseason December sixteenth, twenty twenty two.
You know what, The only concernthat I do have is the fact that
the Lakers are coming off a playinggame. The Nuggets have had some time

(08:52):
to rest. So when you thinkabout rest, I think about rust You
know, what is that going todo with the Nuggets? Now? In
the chemistry is always there, butyou always wonder. You got a Lakers
team who was embarrassed and the lasttime they were here early game you shouldn't
drop. Yeah you were rusty.Yes, it's that first game. So
seeing how the Nuggets actually deal withthat initial serves from the Lakers to me,

(09:15):
that's going to say a lot,okay, because that's that's the thing
I've you know, and the threegames that they played this year weren't particularly
close. Nuggets won all three onetwenty four, one fourteen back in March,
one fourteen one six in February, and one nineteen one o seven back
in October. But yeah, thatis the one thing I worry about.
You know how I feel about restingguys in week eighteen, all that kind
of stuff and like, for instance, the Browns this past year, they

(09:37):
were they were on a roll, they were hitting on all cylinders, and
they decided to sign Jeff Driscoll outof nowhere, pumped the rest everybody,
and it created a disaster. Youknow, sometimes you gotta balance. I
get the guys want rest, butsometimes you got to balance the fact that
you're on a heater and you justgot to keep rolling with it until the
luck runs off. Well if everytrue. And here's another thing as well,

(09:58):
the Lakers made a couple of adjustmentsto their roster, you know,
trying to get to this point. And there's the one guy who played at
Colorado that I still think, man, he is a valuable asset and you
definitely want to don't want allow thisguy to get going. And Spencer DINWIDDI
right, that's a guy that whodefinitely he plays on both ends of the

(10:20):
floor. But that's in another aspectof this matchup that is a little different.
It's not the same mix of guys. They still have some of the
same core guys who were part ofthe Lakers team that swept, but they
have a nice group of guys thatthey added to try to go somewhere on
the run. So I hope thatthe Nuggets players. I know coach Malone

(10:43):
will not do this based on hisattitude, but I hope the Nuggets players
don't take the frame of mind, well, hey, this is the same
team we faced last year. Weswept them, so we know we're gonna
have the mentality to do it again. So yeah, I don't know if
they're gonna sweep them, but Idon't don't I don't have I'm not bothered
at this point. Now. Ifthey come out and go and come out
flat in the first two games orsomething like that, then maybe I'll go

(11:05):
worry. But right now, Ido believe the Nuggets will will beat the
Lakers, you know, in fiveor six. We'll see. We'll see
how that checks out as final seasongame tonight. We are we high on
the Avs on the in the pursuitof the Cup, of course. I
mean like, if you ask me, okay, well, Nick, are
you higher on the Rockies or higheron Aves? So if it's the Rockies,

(11:28):
you're all gonna be higher on whateverelse. It is, absolutely man,
So I'm definitely high on Aves. It's always you know, the toughest
time of the year playing in theplayoffs and with expectations being as high as
they are. Well, but oncethe game, I mean, that's what
playing in the Denver sports atmosphere, you know, has definitely turned into it's

(11:52):
like, Okay, well we wona championship. What are you gonna do
now? Like do you just wonone? Yeah? So now you have
the Nuggets the Aves on deck, and I mean, I'm not even gonna
throw the rookies at the Broncos intothe mix because they both have some things
that need to work on. Butthis is the time I love and this
is why I love living here inDenver because it's turned into a sports town

(12:18):
and those championships are expected from yourthe teams that you root for. Just
feels a little bit like the Avesare kind of going the wrong direction as
they head into the playoffs. Ithink you're what two and four and five
too and five? For the monthof April, it has not been been
good down the stretch for the Aves, and I guess you're kind of hoping
that they'll pick that back up.But once again, okay, losing can

(12:41):
do one or two things for you. It could just drive you deeper in
apathy or it can motivate you.So it's up to Jared Bednard to tell
this guy, look, man,we haven't really played our best hockey to
close out the season. Right nowis when we need to play our best
hockey. We know how this worksin in every profession of sports. Is
the teams that get hot and healthyat the right time. It really is.

(13:07):
I mean, we saw that withthe Baltimore Ravens. Remember they got
high with Joe Flacco, you knowthat kind of thing, which is funny
enough. The Cleveland Browns got hotwith Flacco, you know again this last
year, and then and then andSadam week eighteen, and then we all
saw the wheels come up. I'mwith you on that. I do believe
there's a sense of trying to catchfire at the right time. You know.
It's it's balancing getting through a seasonand succeeding and then catching fire and

(13:31):
being at your best, your optimalperformance level at a certain time of the
season. So we'll see how thatGoes' got a big show ahead. We're
gonna get to some of this SeanPayton George Payton press conference, you know
a little bit. Daniel Jeremiah wason with Kowei Sports Earlier he had some
opinions on what the Broncos should doat twelve. We do an NFL six
pack. Ryant Leaf is gonna beon the show a little bit later and
we'll talk about see you. I'vegot quite a few players hit in the

(13:52):
transfer portal these days go in theother direction. It's gonna be interesting to
see what, you know, whatthe guy can do because the transfer portal
and basically college free agency has beena large part of how he turned the
roster over here. Well, nowsome of those guys who'd make the cut,
they're kind of working their way out. The depth for Colorado. Is
that concerning. We'll get to thata little bit later as well. We

(14:13):
are one week away from the NFLDraft that'll be happening one week from tonight.
You get your coverage right here onko. Of course, the Rockies
are playing that night, so we'llstart here on KAWA and then I believe
coverage will switch over to our sisterstation, k how at some point during
the broadcast. I'll have to getall the details on that and get y'all

(14:35):
to that. But if you don'thear that, you do hear the Rockies.
That would be That would be whyon that night five six, six,
nine zeros of text line. Youguys want to get involved in the
conversation, said one. Nine saysJoker trash talks by hitting a three in
your eye and then yawning as hejogs back down the court. Yeah,
that's a Nick ferguson trash talk.Man. Letting you play to the talking.
Make it a big play. Letyou play to the talking. No,
man, I'm gonna tell you man, when you watch Joker throw up

(14:58):
those three point shots, well,if Anthony Davis one just lives forever in
my mind, it's like, Imean, Anthony Davis just threw his hands
up, like, what do youwant me to do? He's like,
I defended the thing perfect? Whatelse you want me to do? You
know? If that's like and mycomparison in football, that's like trying to
make an open field tackle on likeDamian Thomlinson like in his prime and getting

(15:20):
shoot like coach, your coach isyelling at you like you gotta make that
tackle far and I'm like, dude, you wouldn't make that tackle. So
what are you yelling at me for? I'm not making that tackle on Dan
smith in like he's taking you know, they're talking about Dick Ferguson over here.
Would you play do the talking? And I'm like, I'm bitchamin all
bright. I played, did dothe talking. It wasn't good enough.
So that's why the additional talking. That's why I talking. My play wasn't

(15:43):
good. Yes, yes, andyou know it's got to be. It's
gotta be tough for players playing againstNicola Jokis because they all grew up on
the playground like I did, watchingpeople talk trash, right, there's a
skill, there's an art floors. It's trash talk. It's an out art
for him. But he knocks downthe sensation of shots, the three point

(16:04):
shot, the mid range game, and he's grabbing boys, he's getting getting
the team out in transition. Buthe's not talking. And you want to
say everything to him to try toget him to bite, but he won't
bite, and he's got the builtin advantage of being serveying, so he
can just pretend like he doesn't understandwhat you're saying. English shot. That's

(16:26):
what I would be the post doingsomething like that top, don't you know
they get people shout up real quick. You have no idea what it is
that you're you know, but butit creates frustration in you as a defensive
player because I can't rattle his guys. You can't rattle him. You can't
speed him up no matter what youdo. I mean, he unless it's
out in transition, you trying toget on the transition. Other than that,

(16:47):
you can't really speed him up becausehe's got that old man at the
playground game. Yeah he does, you say, forty five year old guy
at the rect league that's going toabsolutely destroy your soul from beyond the arc.
Yes, you got the two shotson and the headman three stripes.
Ye, always three stripes. Youknow what I'm talking about. Yes,
you know everybody else had the shortsthat was going to the knees. He
had the socks that was going tothe knees, got the to the mid

(17:11):
thigh, the thigh maybe, andit show us the two sounds. I'm
saying. You got to care forthem shorts too. You don't want something
to pick it out on. You'retrying to post up whoa I tried.
You know, I don't know whatthey got posted. No, no posting
me up. And you know itfeels like somebody should start playing genuine s
pony while he's posting up. Butsee, that's why would you see that
that guy at direct league. Noone's trying to post him up, No

(17:33):
one, like you said, backingdown. You just let him get Like,
I'm not puffery shooting from the cornerover there. I'm not even trying.
No, it's fun. Maybe whileI'm over here, you know,
running up and down five old manhad broken a sweat and then I'm running
up and down the court like gaspingfor air man. That's the type of
game Nicola Yokurts has man, andhe's so superior once he gets down.

(17:59):
Get guys down in the paint.Man, that's just ridiculous. It's a
treat to get to watch. Imean, all seriousness is it's take out
the nuggets, fanship, all thatkind of stuff. Like it really is
a treat to get to watch somebodywith that that unique skill set at that
size the standing. This is whyI say, man, stop all that
comparing of sinners and MVPs. Justwatch the guy play, because we get

(18:21):
so much between he's back and forththat we don't really marvel in what we
are seeing right before, you're seeinggreat basketball. The comparison with Nicola Jokic
isn't like you know, game Elijahwanor Patrick Ewing or he didn't play the
game the same way. The comparison'sMagic Johnson, right is magic. I
mean kind of Magic was a betterathlete, but you know what I mean,
like the skill set, but hedoes what I'm saying. His court

(18:45):
vision, the way he passes theball has that the basketball, like you,
it's closer to magic than it isanything else. And I'm not saying
that he's a great athlete like Magicwas, because I mean, who was.
But if you're looking for the comparison, that that's the comparison. Interesting.
When we come back, we're gonnaget to this presser. They had
today's pre draft presser. Sean PaytonGeorge Peyton talked. So people got in
some great questions. We'll find outwho they were. Broucles Country dined,

(19:07):
KWA five six six nine zeros. The text line h Sean Payton George Peyton
pre draft presser happened today. Theyanswered a lot of questions about quarterbacks,
A lot of questions about quarterbacks. Here's Sean Payton on if the Bronckels need

(19:27):
to draft a quarterback? Do wehave to draft a quarterback? You'd say,
Man, it sure looks like wehave to draft a quarterback. And
yet it's got to be the rightfit, the right one. And if
we had the tip sheets as towho everyone else was taking to be easier
to answer that question. Yeah.I mean they weren't going to give up

(19:48):
any state secrets. That much wasobvious. Sean Payton did talk about giving
up multiple picks for a quarterback. The hypothetical relative to the what the compensation
is, it's it's a lot oftimes driven by who else is interested?
Is George and he's talked to allthese teams in front of us, and

(20:10):
obviously depending on how much further yougo up, And then it's also if
there's someone else doing the same thing, and so that I think George said
it best at the very beginning. That certainly is a possibility, and then
it's how much you can pell it. George Peyton talked about the draft class
itself. I do think it isa good quarterback class. There's seven eight

(20:34):
quarterbacks that we like that think canplay in the league one day. I'm
not going to get into you knowhow we have them rated or in the
top ten. But it is agood quarterback class. We've it's been fun
getting to know them, you know, seven or eight of them, and
so we think we can get aquarterback early. We think in mid rounds.
We think there's gonna be quarterbacks, you know, throughout the draft that

(20:55):
are interesting to us. George Peytontalked about the draft pictions for the Broncos
from these so called experts. Youtake it with a grain of salt.
I mean, really, we don'teven know who we're picking at the time.
You know, we're at twelve. We don't know who's going to be
there. We're going through every scenario, every scenario in the first, the
third, the fourth. We don'tknow. So I don't know how anyone
else knows. And then when weknow, it's only gonna be Sean and

(21:17):
I. So it's sits. Youlisten to it. You have a pulse
in the league. It's really goodto have a pulse, and then no
one knows. George Payton also talkedabout the possibility trading up for a quarterback.
Yeah, I would just say,if it's the player you think can
change the landscape of your organization movingforward like a quarterback, then you do
whatever you take to get them. And if there's a consensus in the building

(21:38):
of love in the building and you'reaggressive and you try to get them,
doesn't mean you're going to get them, but you try. And so we're
open to everything. We're wide open. And then some incredibly handsome reporter decided
to get away from all this quarterbacktalk and ask a football question. With

(21:59):
the change in the kickoff rules, does that change how you evaluate players in
terms of body type and does itchange the value that you would assign overall
players now that a kickoff has beenreemphasized. Man, I think it's a
great question. It's fun that we'redoing. I mean when I say it's
fun, I think there's a littleunknown. I think this the distance traveled

(22:26):
is going to be not as far. So you know, when you're covering
a kick, speed was fairly importantrelative to getting as a coverage unit,
getting down the field and get intothe ball carrier. And we've taken that
whole group and said all right,we're gonna put you guys ten yards away.

(22:51):
I think certainly it could you couldsee probably a little heavier unit than
where speeds. It's it's certainly gonnaput a premium on your two returners because
you have to have two and uh, and then that box where you're kicking

(23:11):
the ball to. You know, these guys like third basement are gonna have
to be able to field you know, these kicks pretty cleanly. And and
uh, we were forward for alot of reasons. You know, we
hadd a lot of a lot ofplay. We feel like we're one of
the better special teams units. Wefeel like last year we made a lot

(23:33):
of gains there. We've got agood returner. We certainly Uh as you
look at the personnel though, Ithink the blocking schemes as you return it
is it's this is, this isgonna this is going to evolve quickly,
I think. And and to yourpoint, do the body types possibly change?

(23:56):
Yeah? How much does that change? When we see teams players in
the draft that there's a few elements, there's traits, all of that,
but then there's also this mindset youknow that some some players possess that tend
to maybe uh transfer over and intothat level. But I think that is

(24:17):
something we're studying and and uh,it'll be interesting. Yeah, you know
it's I could feel that reporters smolderinggood looks as he as he asked the
question. The humility yet intelligence resonatingin the in the gravatas and his voice.
It's a great question. The counteven agreed. What I'm sorry,
Sean, I interrupted you. Whatdid you say, man? I think

(24:38):
it's a great question. Let's yeah, man, Ryan Evers is driving home
right now. He just pulled overand he's throwing up outside hunting the steering
wheel. He's repeatedly bashing the steeringwheel. Listen, Man, I have
to say, I love the question. I asked the special things question.

(24:59):
It is because everyone's talking about quarterback, but like I keep trying to tell
everyone, quarterback is not the onlyway that you get to the mountaintop.
And I think the Broncos believe itor not. I think Sean Payton was
right. I think the Broncos havean edge on special teams. They've really
emphasized that they've drafted a lot todo that. And as this the league
has suddenly re emphasized the kickoff andthe way that this was gonna do.

(25:21):
I think they we might have achance at a couple of returns. This
year. I definitely believe that becauseone brilliant thing that Sean Payton did when
he came in and I and Iloved him for this. He went out
and grabbed my former special teams coachand Mike What's off. Yeah, and
Mike has like retired like two orthree times, so to come out of
retirement or special they exactly begin himto come out of retirement to do what

(25:45):
he did, because we know whatthe Broncos special teams units have looked like
over the past couple of years. And we saw Marvin Mimms as a rookie
go to the Pro Bowl as areturner. So that tells you where the
special team you had been elevated to. So I give Mike westoff by cold
Wicker and that group and that andthat group as a coaching step and as

(26:07):
players a lot of credit for whatthey were able to do. And these
rules now are definitely going to benefitthe Denver Broncos drastically. One more time,
Coach, I didn't hear you,man. I think it's a great
question. It's coach was I Youknow, we can debate that during the
break. Let's go on and checktraffic with Darren Coplan. Wow, that
was a terrible question, right there, Ben, Sorry, Just in regards

(26:30):
to the draft, we feel goodwith where we're at. We have eight
picks and we have the twelve pickin the draft. One thing, we
know we're going to get a reallygood player at twelve. We've had We've
had teams call to move up,we've had teams call to move back.
We have flexibility, but we doknow at twelve, if we stam pat,
we're going to get a really goodplayer. Welcome back to it,
Broncos Country tonight, Benjamin O.Albright, Nick Ferguson, Grant Smith here

(26:52):
with you. Listening to that pressconference being there for today, I did
not get the vibe that that isa team looking to aggressively move up.
I mean, we heard you heardthe cut sheet comments we just did a
minute ago. I just that didnot seem like an organization that is aggressively
pursuing moving up. In fact, when they talked about moving up, even
sounded kind of defeated, like likemaybe they'd explored that option that wasn't gonna

(27:14):
be feasible. If you had askedthe Broncos this question a couple of weeks
after the season, ended, youwere probably received more replies that the team
was going to move up. Thinkabout what Sean Payton said a couple of
weeks ago at the owners meeting whenhe was asked about the team moving up,

(27:36):
and he was saying that, youknow, it's it's something that's realistic.
Yeah, obviously it's always realistic, but it's not, in my opinion,
the wisest thing to do at thisparticular time. Like I mean,
hear and I cut by George Peyton. They could get a great player at
twelve, because we know that whenit comes to certain positions, there's a

(27:57):
lot of depth. You can agood player at twelve, great player at
twelve, especially if you got fourquarterbacks and three receivers going ahead of you
that are pushing other stuff right inyour lap. Yes, because usually what
happens there's always one or two movesthat take place on draft Day that no
one anticipated, and then desperation seeksin because now you have teams right behind

(28:22):
their division rival were looking to leapfrog them to get their particular players,
in some cases may be the sameplayer. So this is where the game
that I call like, when welook at it, we're going to see
on draft days, some teams aregoing to be playing checkers while others are
going to be playing chess. Andthe Broncos are in a great spot.

(28:44):
Are they in the top ten?No, they're still sitting at twelve,
But, like George Payton said, they received calls from teams wanting to move
up. Yeah, and we talkedabout this. I don't know how much
of the show you listened to lastnight. Yes, let in town jornthe
Peyton kind of confirming that today therehave been teams that have been calling about
moving up. I happen to knowthat there's a team that wants to move

(29:04):
up, whether or not they're successfulin doing that. But the La Rams
are definitely looking at that as oneof the teams. And I believe that
they are on an offensive tackle, specifically the one from Penn State. But
we'll see. Well, I didyou entertain that? Because if that means
that the Broncos are still able tostay in the first round, still add

(29:25):
more draft capital for twenty twenty four, twenty twenty five, I'm like,
why not entertain it? Because Iknow everyone is humdrum about you gotta go
get a quarterback. It's Paddick inthe room, and it's just like,
well, you still can go geta quarterback, and it's like it's got
to be the right quarterback. Aslong as you go get a guy that
you feel fits your system and you'rewilling to build around him. Guess what

(29:48):
that makes that guy the right damnguy. Well, I'm a big proponent
of taking a flyer on somebody daytwo, day three and taking a look
and seeing what you got with him. If it doesn't work out, then
you didn't mortgage the future, andyou're back in line with all the ammunition
in the world next year. Oh, by the way, you're probably picking
a little bit better than twelve atthat point, and you got yourself in
line for another quarterback if assuming youbelieve in them. But we've been over

(30:11):
this had nauseum for months now,and just it doesn't make sense to move
up for the quarterback when you don'thave the support system in place. It
doesn't make sense to move up ifone falls in your lap and you don't
have to give up capital, Okay, but if mortgaging everything to move up
leaves you gut it and unable tobuild around you. We have a very
proven track of how bad That ishow it hinders a football team, right.

(30:36):
It not only enders the football team, but it gets guys fired.
Yeah, it wastes valuable years onguys' careers that could be winding down.
And the whole idea is to upliftthe fan base and rebuild the structure of
the organization where you bring that standardwhich I played under and I walked into

(30:59):
the Broncos organization with the standard. It is about the continuation of it.
I know we're always talking about whennew coach comes in, a new culture
comes in, right, but that'spart of the old culture that needs to
be reinstated. What that standard is, and the standard is winning, and

(31:21):
that's something that this fan base hasbeen desperate for and been thirsty four And
that's why everyone is like, youknow, trade you, your momma and
your and your dog to move upto go get a quarterback. But if
being shaped out the way I thinkthey will, the Broncos could sit at
twelve and get their quarterback or facewith the option of moving back. I

(31:44):
think it can move back and getthe quarterback. That's just me. I
mean, I don't think J.J. McCarthy's getting beyond five or six
I really don't. Well, he'snot the only damn quarterback in this draft,
right, So that's what I'm gettingat, is the people who have
bought into those reports that Paul Allenup there in Minnesota when he came out
here Denver and went back and saidto Sean Payton loves stage in my cart.
I believe that's true. I do. I don't believe the Broncos are

(32:05):
going to be able to get him. We'll see, but there are other
quarterbacks in this draft that you canget much later. Again, I've talked
to the plenty of people who thinkyou can get Boneux in the third round.
Boat mix doesn't sound that bad ifyou're taking him in the second or
third round. If you trade back, you multiply picks, you get that
guy, You get a center toput in front of him, you get
a corner on the others side,So you get that guy with hell it

(32:29):
around him. Guess what, allof a sudden, it doesn't sound so
bad. It's not that I'm opposedto the quarterback. It's that I'm opposed
to mortgaging everything with you. Wecan go skipping through fields together during the
break. Quarter back, I'm notholding your hand,
