(00:00):
We're going to go back to beingthe hunter. We haven't now have another
solid chip on our shoulder, whichwasn't there, you know, twelve months
ago this time or eleven months ago. I guess we didn't want it yet.
But I'm excited to see what thegroup can do to come back with
that sort of motivation and this typeof experience underneath them. Welcome to it,
Broncos Country tonight. But with allBride, Dick Ferguson, Grant Smith,

(00:20):
it's still weird me out. Man. Every time I look over there,
I'm like, wait, Nick, you're saying that like I'm creeping you
out, Like I'm creeping out, weird me out, creeping weird. No,
weird me out is like I'm justnot used to it. Creeping me
out. It's like that guy Imight need to call the police off.
It's like when Ben grows his mustache, right, what, I only grow
the mustache to say, Yes,there's a difference between weird and creepy.

(00:45):
Like creepy is like you know theydid they if a guy my age with
no kids just sitting there at theat the park, I mean, okay,
weird and creepy is me sitting heredoing the entire show and an emoji
costume. Right, this shape likea chocolate chip drop. Right, that's
weird, that would be weird. That's not frozen yogurt. That's not what
that emotion is. Do you knowwhat that emochi is. That's not what

(01:07):
that emochi. I'd say it wasfrozen yogurt. Okay, I call it
like a chocolate drop. That's nothinglike that. Of course the ka comes
Sparrel hotline and bring buy somebody whoactually knows what this emoji is. Bay
help me on her, buddy, how's it going? Hey good? I'm
doing nine things at once, whichemoji so I can guess or not?
Yes, I mean I have aseventeen year old, so I'm a little

(01:30):
hipper then I probably should be atthis point. Well, you said the
word hipper, so you're giving yourselfaway there. I think you're talking about
the quote chocolate drop emoji, whichI am contending is not a chocolate drop.
That's definitely not that's definitely poop.You don't need a seventeen year old,
you know, but that is thatis a poop emoji or crap or

(01:51):
you know whatever. That's gonna bemy new favorite drop of you bink that
that's I think that's exactly what thatis. This is anitely since which you
know, coincid at least, Iwis right into what I want to talk
about. The ending of the seasonfor both of the Abs the Nuggets,
which was a bunch of poop itself, you know, especially the Nuggets,
who you felt like in that gamehad a good grasp of it in halftime

(02:14):
and just found a way to snatchdefeet from the jaws of him and the
victory. Yeah, it was reallyjust fascinating sitting there. And look,
I grew up in Dallas. Ihaven't spent much time there in the last
decade for just you know, lifeand family isn't all there anymore. So
a plenty of family and prints.Like I've been texting people looking at flights,
got them ready to go hotels.I'm gonna fly in early, and

(02:37):
I'm like, oh, we're gonnaget the Western Conference Finals. It could
be the last time the TNT crewcomes here, which that turns out that
would have been true. So Icould see you know, Chuck and Shack
and Kenny and that whole deal andErnie and then you know in a matter
of moments as it went from twentydown to sixteen, then down to fourteen,
and I'm sitting there Mark Gissel's nextto me, obviously a bunch of
other colleagues. It's like, well, I haven't hit you know, select

(02:59):
on the flight or whatever, finishwhat it purchase, and I just never
did. And it was this losshas hit me harder than others, because,
look, you cover these teams longenough, and I didn't grow up
here. My kids are huge fansof all these teams, and I like
it when they win. It wasfun covering a Nuggets parade, fun covering
and a half parade. Fun whenLe Broncos won superle fifty, fun all
the way back in October. Thatwas the first summer I was here,

(03:21):
all the way back in oh seven. But this one just kind of hit
me harder because of how good theNuggets aren't, how it does feel like
a waste of Nicola Jokic's season, which is kind of a bummer. The
other ones you got because MPJ washurting and obviously Jamal was hurt, so
it wasn't going to come to fruition. But for him to have the year
that he had and for the teamto have as many wins as they had
Tiana Franchise record second best home recordin the NBA, one of their best

(03:43):
road records ever, and then forit to just end to a team that,
I don't say that they're better then, but certainly are capable of beating
and if they were fully healthy. It's it's been tough to swallow as I'm
watching the rest of these playoffs. Now, Kay, how is it that
the Nuggets in Calvin Booth pretty muchresolve the situation that they put themselves in
because they got three guys on MaxDial's Two of those guys show up,

(04:06):
one of those guys the three timeMVP, and the other guys just that
a guy. So how they remedythis knowing as though the West is gonna
be more competitive next year than itwas this year. Yeah, And I
don't know how you get a playerto go from okay to good and good
to great, And Nick you canmaybe speak to that, just you know,
through your own journey, but certainlyI'm sure you've had teammates that far

(04:28):
exceeded expectations or eat and perhaps eventheir own. For Michael Porter, it's
it's obviously fascinating because he was thebest high school player in the country.
Then going to Missouri thought he's gonnaprobably be the number one pick. He
has the back injury, and weknow it's been all, you know,
this long journey to get his bodyright, and that's kind of where Calvin
Booth went. Both Calvin Booth andMichael Malone were quick to defend MPJ.
In fact, Malone did it onhis own early and then when there was

(04:50):
a Michael Porter questioned to Calvin, you know, he pointed out, hey,
he played all eighty one or heplayed eighty one to eighty two games
this year plus playoffs, and MichaelMalone said he appreciates that. That's who
Michael Porter Junior is, the guythat says, hey, it was my
fault that we lost. He goes, we don't win the Lakers series if
not for MPJ. So they havehis back and I think they see the

(05:10):
upside. It's just the consistency.Right, you're making thirty five million dollars.
How about this. The guy rightin front of him, he's the
thirtieth highest paid player in the league. The guy right in front of him
is Anthony Davis, who certainly abona fide star, and then the guy
right behind him is SGA, AndI get that that that deal is going
to change now when he gets hisnew deal, But that's sort of the
point. If you're paid like that, you're expected to play like that,

(05:32):
and you just don't get it enough. And I don't know how they get
him over that hump, but theyknow that when he's dialed in and certainly
shooting the ball as well as hecan, he is worthy of that money.
Like we saw it spurts throughout theseason and in that Lakers series,
and not as much from the lastyear's playoffs. But I just don't think
that. I hope it's not astrategy, right, guess, but I

(05:55):
just don't think they have a plan. They're not gonna move him, and
so I don't know what it takesto get a guy to make that next
jump to be a bona fide starthat he has paid like and I think
is talented enough to be. Itjust hasn't all. It hasn't all connected
for a number of reasons. Well, you said they're not gonna move him,
Are you sure about that, becauseI mean, you know, I
mean I've heard a few things, but at the same time, how is

(06:15):
it simply the difficulty of moving himbased on the contract and how you have
to do trades in the NBA.Yeah, and with the it's really fascinating
and it's disappointing that they did allthis stuff today all the same time,
essentially between the Abs and and thenthe Nuggets and the Broncos doing OTAs and
and so you kind of had topick your poison as far as where you
were going. And at some pointI'll cross paths with Josh Cronky because you

(06:38):
know, when asked about the secondapron, and he wasn't asked about how
a Calvin booth was. And there'sthese thresholds, these aprons when you get
into your get taxed even more.We know the Kronky's are some of the
richest owners in the NBA. Infact, they might be close to the
top obviously behind Steve Balmer, sothey can go into into that, into
those upper levels to deal with it. But you only have so much flexibility.

(06:59):
And as Josh Rocky did point outtoday, though they negotiated these deals
and built their team on a previousCBA and the new collective Bargaining Agreement,
in some ways works against them interms of being able to add to their
roster. So I think that probablybodes well for a guy like Contavious Caldwell
Pope, who a source very closeto him confirmed to me yesterday that he
is expected to opt out and thentry to get a longer term deal and

(07:23):
it helps. He's reped by RichPaul and Clutch Sports. Rich's Lebron's agent
and best friend business partner. It'sweird that Lebron owns an agency that other
players are repped by, but anyway, he kind of runs the NBA,
so Casep'll get it. But Idon't know if he gets it here or
somewhere else place like San Antonio Orlandothat can offer him even more money,
or did the Nuggets go even deeperinto the luxury tax threshold and second Apron.

(07:47):
But if I'm the Kronky's, weknow the thing that makes them the
happiest is winning, and you can'treally buy championships, you can improve your
roster, So to let a bigpiece go to save a couple bucks,
I think if you asked him inan honest moment, even though we understand
that, you know how they've builttheir organizations and where they've saved money,
where they spent money, always saythey spend it on the quarter, on
the field or on the ice.So now we'll see if that's the case

(08:09):
when they bring case of feedback. But you just can't really add any vets
unless they want to come for theminimum. And I'm not sure if you
trade MPG, I feel like you'repenalized. I think that you can't get
as much back in terms of valueother than maybe draft picks. One of
the things that you know, I'veplayed around with was trying to find ways
that you actually could potentially even moveporter and and it's it's tough. I

(08:31):
mean, like I said, butthe contracting of itself, it's difficult to
make an equitable move with the luxurytax and all that kind of stuff.
But is there any type of playerthat you'd want the Nuggets to pursue to
fill in the gaps that they have? Well, wouldn't you say that?
It's I guess it's one of twothings. It's somebody that's more like Contavious
Caldwell Popper, we'll call it,Jaden McDaniels, right, that's more defensive

(08:52):
oriented, or you know, threeand D and that's about it, or
it's someone that can shoot the threereally well, well, guess who that
is? Michael Porter Junior, Right, he is one of the best three
point shooters in the NBA, certainlystatistically, and we've seen it. And
that doesn't the amia on the planet. So do you go try to talk
Klay Thompson the to come in hereand sell him on the you know,
the virtues of the Mile High Cityor do you you know, does he

(09:16):
go to LA to play for thischildhood team that his dad still calls the
games for. But you're gonna wantshooters around Joker anyway, shooters and guy,
I guess guys that'll cut and playd But I just don't think you
can get a single player back.So then it's like, okay, can
we trade MPG for two kind ofmiddling players and who are getting back in
that case? So I think thatthe again hope not a strategy, but

(09:39):
they need Christian Brown to take anotherstep. They need Peyton Watson to take
a certainly a bigger step than hetook this year. And Julian straw the
same thing, and Michael Mohan broughtup today that strawther after the thirty six
games. Mcl' sprain really slowed downhis development or we might have seen more
of him in the playoffs. Solet's stay in that direction. Over at
Ball and Greena and something that reallyis really piqued my interest what's going on

(10:03):
with the Aps Because you have GabeLandiscott who hasn't played in two years,
and you have ad Nachushkin who ishaving his off the ice issue. So
if you are you know, JaredBennar, how are you looking at this
situation? What's one of these thatyou're looking to come back first? And
also what should they do with Valbecause they got rid of Nadam Kadri to

(10:24):
keep Valdichuskin and then now when hecan't stay on the ice because of off
the ice issues. Yeah, andyou understood the time why they made the
move, right. I don't sayNaas was a luxury, but he was
kind of the icing on the cakekind of there. Bruce Brown right to
some degree in terms of what hebrought you with, you know, the
second line and the obviously opportune scoring. But with Val it's it's clearly it's

(10:48):
issues with substance use, and that'swhy he's failed a drug test now three
times just this season, and yougo back to last year and having to
leave the team when they were inSeattle in the first round of Chris McFarlane.
So they've looked at all the optionsand right now termination of the contract
is not an option. Gabe Landeskog, who along with McFarland wh's the GM
under Joe Sakik, met the mediaday for almost forty minutes. They did
it down in Family Sports because Ithink Gabe was going to work out around

(11:11):
that. Gabe as the captain, you know, obviously been here the longest,
said we'll see how Val handles thesituation and how the next six months
ago, but that it is plausiblethat he'll be back. As one more
thing that McFarland said, again hopenot being a strategy for either of these
guys. At least you know thatGabe is working towards something and he has
doctors telling him, you know,to follow this path. And he said

(11:31):
the times that he's had issues inrecent months has been when he's pushed it
too much and kind of gone againstmedical advice. So I think you have
to count on Gabe and if Valcan get his off ice issues worked out
in his substance use issues behind him. Then that becomes icing on the cake.
At the time, miners stood way. They made the move because val
as a two way player and certainlyas a as a one of your bigger,

(11:54):
tougher guys, they can find theback of the net like you did
so many times early was of theright move. But then he is proven
to be unreliable, so you scratchyour head and said, well, maybe
we should have given that money tonosen Kadri. But hindsight being twenty twenty
again looking ahead, Nick, Ithink you've got to put your eggs in
the gay basket that he will makeit back because he's worked so hard for

(12:15):
two years and at least give yourteam a boost that way. Yeah,
and it was interesting, Guess hada conversation so about this today. Because
of the the NHL's kind of salarycap roles, they're kind of hosed on
the valve. You get just caughthim in clear the space, you know.
And I think that's the thing alot of fans don't don't understand.
Well, and that's why PA's arethere, right, I mean, Nick,
you were a part of the NFLPA. That's why the Union's there too,
is also to protect players from thishappening. You know, the better

(12:37):
way to do this across the boardwhen guys retire or when you know.
It'd always come back to me whenCorey Stringer died in Vikings practice, like,
well, he counts against the cap. Like they should get out of
their own way, and I'd appreciateit if just like they had that a
couple of years ago in the newNBA CBA where I can't remember the word
they use, but you could basicallycut one player and just eat his money
but it didn't count against your cap. Teams should have some more flexibility for

(13:00):
extenuating circumstances. The NFL's gotten betterat it with that commissioner exemple list and
so yeah, the if you wantto give him his money and say see
you later, but it doesn't countagainst your cap. If guys are gonna
be out of the league, likeyou can't go sign with another team,
but it's like, hey, you'regonna be out of the league and you
can't sign somewhere until the contract's overor something until we trade it. But
I don't, I mean, Iguess you know that goes to smarter people
than me. That'll have to figurethat out. It came out a minute

(13:22):
left. One of the Texters texted, is something that I sort of wanted
to ask you. And the Nuggetshave not advanced past the second round of
the playoffs or only once in eightnon bubble seasons with Jokic. Is Mike
Malone on any type of thin iceis? Is this is this a John
Fox situation where you know he canget you, he can get you close?
Or is this fan overreaction here,uh to not getting to the Promised

(13:46):
Land with the cold maybe as muchas many times as they want. No,
I think it's definitely that, uh. And it's there's certain things you
can look at to the way Malonehandles things, and he obviously has changed
the narrative to some degree. Whenyou win a championship, you just looked
at differently. But he's wired. He's just kind of paranoid. And it
was funny. I talked to somebodytoday that said they talked to his dad,
Brendan m Alone, a longtime coach, and said that he thought that

(14:07):
his son should have been playing youngerplayers more, but he doesn't trust him.
You think about I mean because I'veasked him over the years plenty of
times, hey, why'd you leaveyour starters, and especially when the other
team pulled theirs, and he gets, oh, I've seen so much happen
in this league. So he's justparanoid. He's wired that things are gonna
go wrong, and so because ofthat, he has to play his starters
more. But he just signed anew deal. He's one of the highest

(14:28):
paid coaches in the NBA, andyou know, I think he's just shy
at ten million bucks. We don'treally know NBA coaches salaries the way we
often know NFL coach salaries, butthat's my understanding. He's not going anywhere.
It's just about figuring out how tobring these young guys along and not
waste anymore Nicola years. I'm notsaying they wasted it this year, but
also what you can get from Jamaland can he be healthy and that those

(14:48):
guys are gonna probably playing the Olympics, so we'll see how they come off
that. BK. We appreciate it, Bud. All right, guys,
talk to you soon. All right, Take care? Riddy, Christal or
kab reporter checking in on the endof the AVS and Nuggets seasons. We
come back. You know it's afootball talk on the Broncos. Uh I
am. We got Chris Thompson comingup top of the hour as well.

(15:09):
This is a Broncos country. Ican't wait. That's definitely poop. Welcome
back to it, Broncos country tonight. Benjamin Albrighten, Nick Ferguson, Grant
Smith here with you, just sittinghere parched thirsty to me, same way
the police were thirsty. And yousee what I was trying to do.
I was trying to create a segue. Now you're just drafting. What did
I say? Killing? Did Isay anything? Grant Shade shaved the beard

(15:33):
off. He's just sitting there tellingon me on the air. I did
say what did I say? Isaid, you just looked thirsty, That's
all I said. And he saidI didn't look thirsty. But either way,
I didn't dry sich, did I? No? I just point out
obvious. You told on yourself.I don't know what you're talking about.
You remind me never to do acrime with you, because, uh hey,
Nick, come cover from underneath thecold table. They got us like

(15:54):
what, No, they didn't getthat? Think well, you gotta do
is just change your facial appearance likehe did to recognize you coopers in my
butt right the officer, I wasjust over here to expression, I say,
yeah, yeah, I saw everything. Well, speaking of seeing everything,
the camera footage guy, you guyssell the Scotti Scheffler stuff. You

(16:15):
got to see all this. Hegot arrested, kind of arrested going into
the golf tournament what was it lastweekend, and uh, there's a whole
to do. He was accused ofhitting a police officer and dragging him all
this kind of stuff. And ofcourse the officer conveniently was not wearing his
body cam or wasn't active conveniently.Well, footage comes out today for security

(16:41):
cameras across the street and completely blowsthis police officer's story out of the water.
People today started doing a little,uh, a little fact checking on
this officer, Officer Gillis, andI'm trying to bring this up right now.
This guy is something else. Soapparently he's been disciplined many times for

(17:03):
wrecking his vehicle and missing court, suspended five days for doing donuts in his
police vehicle while on duty with anintoxicated civilian. Apparently was a date Yeah,
these are things that he's done overthere. That's about right for Kentucky.
Yeah, he got a waiver thingto wear plain clothes on the job
sometimes because he has a secondary jobas a collision investigator for lawyers and insurance
companies, so he doesn't want torepresent the Louisville Metro Police Department, so

(17:29):
he apparently wears plain clothes for someof that, as well as working security
at wall you know, the kindsof off duty jobs at police hupsters generally
have. So that part on thehold against him. But somebody released his
his uh, released his discipline recordtoday. He's been suspended five different times
for missing court and once for obedienceto rules and regulations conduct unbecoming, which
I'm guessing is the donuts in theparking lot incident. He's also been written

(17:53):
up multiple times for high speed pursuitsthat were unnecessary. Look at the seriously,
he's got like four or five ofthese things. The officer's name is
apparently Brian Gillis, I believe, and yeah, he's he was commended.
This is the one that they gotme, this one that blew me away.
He received a commendation and in thecommendation letter. One of the reasons

(18:15):
that he got a commendation was forwriting and I'm quoting here a staggering one
hundred and eight citations during a fourhour period and was credited with a strong
work ethic, perseverance and he positiveattitude. One hundred eight citations in four
hours. There's a citation every twoand a half minutes. This is the
guy that gives the good cops abad rep because like, you have guys

(18:38):
like this out here who are justcomplete words I can't say on the air,
And it's just like, what areyou doing for everything? He's like,
your tent is too thick. I'mwriting that up, you know what?
A van first was given the detailsof what this officer has been through
doing the donuts, the first thingthey came to mind was Seth Rogan and
Bill Hayter and and they're the copstalking about Oh there's po right, and

(19:07):
then just back in the cop that'sthe first thing I thought about. And
once again Scott Scheffler think about whathe went through before the tournament that he
was playing in. Now it waskind of a public shaming and disgrace.
You're in hairingcuffs. Everyone is talkingabout you. You can't go on the
tour without someone looking at you goinglike, hey, that's the guy that

(19:30):
was arrested, but knowing as thoughwhat the cop described the arresting officer described
didn't really happen. Yo. Nowwe have videos, it's it's video,
and look, I have cops inmy family. I don't think that every
cop is a bad cop. ButI tell you, man, I wish
that body cams were around when Iwas a teenager because I've been pulled over

(19:52):
several times because guess what I fitthe description. I was just telling my
kids the story today about how Iwas pulled over and when I was in
sixteen in high school. They tookme back to a convenience store with that
was jess Rob and guess who theselling was. He was young, he
was black, and he's a teenager. I was with the zel. See.
I know, Okay, I've neverhad an experience like I told you
about the one experience. I won'tget into that right now, but I've

(20:15):
never had experience like that. ButI've worked. I mean, there are
great law enforcement people out there.I don't I don't want to make this.
I don't want to make this appealon law enforcement because not at all,
because there are a great law enforcemsI've worked with when I in a
previous career, before I worked inthis, I worked in consulting with it,
you know, when I was offthe military, I worked with law
enforcement on some things. They're greatpeople that work in law enforcement. But
there are also people that take thatjob because they either want to thrill,

(20:36):
they want authority for the first time, and then there are people that take
that job for the wrong reasons.Well, there are well great I mean
you are like from that area, right, so Louisville particularly, that's not
far right, right, so you'rekind of familiar with the Shenanigans that the
hops pull you over for everything there. Like when I moved to Denver,
you see people going like eighty fiveon I twenty five. You're like,

(20:59):
these people would be arrested ten timesover on the highway in Ohio or West
Virginia or Louisville, Kentucky. Right, Like, that's just that's just what
they do. They live for thatstuff. But it makes you think with
certain police departments in certain areas, like you mentioned with this police officer here
in citations that he gave out aretheir bonuses? And I've always thought that
that that they're to b and maybewe have law enforcement people listening who can

(21:22):
answer this question. You're here, anonymous five six six nines ero, you
can answer this question. But arethere bonuses for a certain number of tickets
or quotas? As they're all voters, are there any of those kinds of
things We've always wanted that question answered. I don't know the answer that question.
The story I always heard growing upwas like they have to reach a
certain amount of citations by a certainperiod of time well to get their funding

(21:44):
for their department. That's why whenyou notice at the at the end of
the month, you're not speed atthe end of the month, you notice
that you see so many patrol carson the road, and based on what
you've heard, granted I heard thesame thing, it's like it's not by
coincidence, but I know I think, if I'm not mistaken, I think
the city of Denver passed the UHsome legislation maybe a couple of weeks ago.

(22:07):
That you know, police officers thatnormally pull people off or I don't
want to say frivolous things, butmy minor infractions they're not gonna do that
because they feel as though that takesthem away from their job that they need
to do as far as solving realcrime right the stuff they need to be
focused. And I agree that theydo need to be enforcing certain traffic things.
We need, we don't need.We need a police presence to remind

(22:27):
people not to go eighty or fortybecause we see some nut job doing it
every once in a while. I'mperfectly fine with that, But at the
end of the day, what Idon't want is the situation where you got
like you're talking about, which almostborders on harassment of drivers, right pulling
you over. I'm hit you forevery infraction you've got if you're a committed
infraction, Okay, Like I getit. But at the same time,
like you're making it. Are youmaking life more complicated and difficult for your

(22:51):
civilians? Because are they even gonnapay if you get like fifteen five you
can't afford it them. What areyou gonna do? You're not gonna pay
them now theyvena lock you up?What are they gonna do? Yeah,
I will say all the inner Well, I've had like two interactions with cops
out here and they were so chill, like they did not have anything,
Like it was a night and dayfrom my interactions with officers in Ohio because
they have bigger stuff to worry aboutout here. How about this. When

(23:14):
I was in Georgia before I movedto California, the speed traps like like
you have to accelerate to go overa hill, right, and they hits
at the top of the Yeah, same thing in Arkanstas. Dude, I
gotta get up. I got tocelebrate, and now you got me for
being like five or six miles milesan hour over. I'm just like,
dude, this sucks. Yeah.I I had nothing but positive law interactions

(23:37):
with law forces. I've been inColorado, like I've had nothing but but
you know, positive uh positive interactionsout here. And like I said,
I haven't had a ticket since theLord, I was seventeen years old last
time I got a ticket. Well, so when the cop pulls you over,
you wrote, now your wareness say, hey, you recognize this face.
I'm Bijamin Opera. No and no, of course no one, Jess,
because we're not on a TV.Actually I take that back, and

(23:57):
we did. I did get recognizedat the Macro a girl. It was
like the way you know, themanager there, and he was like a
big fan of He was talking aboutyou guys big. Did you ask for
his phone number? I did not, of course, not talking about this
already, no, I but Iyou know, no, And I would
never do that anyway usually. Imean like that, you know, my
when I was in the army, they had a policy of my commander had
a policy that if you were gettingpulled over yet to show your military I

(24:18):
d And so every time I everdid that, like they instantly, you
know, didn't give me a ticketor anything. The one thing that I
said I never wanted to do livinghere being a player, was use your
player status. Yes, Hey I'mNick Ferguson and I played for the Broncos.
What is like you think that you? Yeah? Yeah, I was
gonna say, does that work inyour benefit? Or is that against you?

(24:41):
Against He was just like, waita minute, I just pulled over
Denver Broncos doing what I'm gonna beon TMZ tonight. Yeah. I mean,
and I don't know if they're likethat or not. But the Melvin
Gordon thing, like I remember watchingthat, what are you doing? Yeah,
it's like, dude, you younever ever name drop in that case,
because now you make it bad forthe organation because the PR Department now
has the handle that right and youand you put that officer at a bad

(25:03):
spot because now you know if therewas any kind of now that looks like
they'll give a preferential treatment to anathlete versus you know, so we uh,
somebody on the text line there tosomeone not Hey, I appreciate that.
I need to clarify the false notin crowd or what do you mean
is false? Because I'm like,we're genuinely curious about We're genuinely curious about
that. So I want to youknow, about the quotest thing and whether

(25:25):
or not that's a real thing. We really want to know. We're trying
to educate ourselves. You're a citizens. Just for the record, right,
just for the record, I totallyforgot about this about being such a law
abiding citizen. I totally forgot. Why they reminds you. Our friendship,
our friend Mario. Our friend Mariotexted me and he'll say this, He's
like, bro, I remember whenyou got pulled over when we were driving

(25:45):
back from the Nuggets game, andyou didn't even have your license and you
still didn't get a ticket. ButI had to drive home because in my
life, tell me, and youdidn't get a ticket. I didn'tet anything.
I haven't not. I haven't hada ticket since I was seventeen years
old. I'm dead serious. Andoffers to pose you over as for a
license registry. Were my convertible atthe top down, we were going probably
a little fast down University and yeah, I got pulled over. Didn have

(26:07):
a license on me, little yeah, none of that stuff. See,
yeah, you flashed the insurance insurance. I just didn't know. Yeah,
yes, so I was being irresponsible, But no I didn't say it once
again that that is one the officerssaying, look, hey, I recognized
how things happened. So I'm gonnaI'm gonna let you go in this one

(26:30):
because I had a situation like thisdriving home several years ago when I was
working somewhere else and the cop youknow, could have given me a ticket.
He could have, but he wasjust like, you know what,
just uh slow down and just gethome safely. Now. I was doing
about maybe six to eight over thespeed limits, so I wasn't super speeding,

(26:52):
but he will he would would havebeen well within his rights to give
me a ticket, but he wasjust like, you know, hey man,
just just slow it down a littlebit. Obviously he checked to make
sure I had to have any priorsor new warrants. So yeah, okay,
well I'll be curious. We mayhave uh, we have somebody from
law enforcement. They call it them, and I'm just genuinely I know.
But the Scotty Scheffler stuff is fascinatingto me because the video clearly shows that

(27:14):
the story from the officer is laughable. There are other people standing around the
officer too as well. So whenthe story originally broke, why didn't those
people say, hey man, Iseen their affidavits. I don't know if
they did or didn't. Well,I'm curious. Wait, wait, wait,
everyone has a phone now, sowhen something happens, everyone was important
things that they shouldn't report. Yeah, but I mean, like, if
you're the officer, if you're ifyou're his coworker, right and you're there,

(27:36):
like I feel like you keep yourmouth shut publicly and you sign an
affidavit telling the truth and go fromthere, because I feel like there's a
you know, that'd be signed theNBA's now no, no, no,
no, I mean this is myaffidavit of what happened. This is so
I feel like that if you're youknow, if you're if you're on scene
there, you got to do thingsby the book. Otherwise you're gonna get
your self jammed up. You know, if you're out there shooting your mouth
off, youre gonna get yourself jammedup. Yeah. But if you notice

(27:56):
something the whole you see something, say something, right, that's the whole
idea. So if Scotty Scheffler didn'treally do anything wrong, his name became
a trending topic that particular day.If you see that, that's not the
case of what's being reported. Ibelieve as a citizen you have a right

(28:17):
to film it and say, hey, listen on my phone, I was
there this morning, and this iswhat happened. This is what didn't happen.
I just think, oh, you'retalking about civilians aside whether because there
was a traffic accident that was happeningthat other police officers were working and apparently
he was with that growth civilian orcop right is right? No, I

(28:37):
agree with you. I do likeI'm trying to clarify what you're saying,
you're saying that the other civilian orthe police that had the bodycam footage,
the other police officers that had bodycam footage bought a civilian other cop with
bodycam because you save your department fora disgrace. We don't know that they
didn't turn that in. That justhasn't been released. All we know is
that hasn't been rung. Well,I'm surprised it hasn't if it was part
of it. I yeah, Iagree. I let's go to the KWA

(29:06):
commispert, the hoghlight. I believewe've got a text who worked in law
enforcement who's got some clarification for us. Hi, you are on there or
someone nine? Hello, how areyou doing? All right? Man?
We this is not a bit. We're we're genuinely curious. So we're trying
to educate ourselves. Here a coupleof dumb microphone jockeys here. Can you
do you you have you have actualinformation? You work in law enforcement?
Yeahs oh, okay, okay, awesome. Well, first of all,
I appreciate your service, man,but uh, can you clarify is there

(29:30):
any such thing as this is thesequotients or bonuses based on tickets or citations
or is that a real thing oris this an urban legend that we've all
been falsely repeating for years. No, the the I can only speak for
where I work. But the bonusthing is is totally the urban legend.
Okay, gosh, that sorry man. But like the quota thing, I

(29:59):
mean that come can come into playat eight times that certain organizations want you
to get a certain amount of citationsin it in a month or or or
whatever. But it's not like athere's no bonus thing, and that would
be in my mind, that wouldbe extremely like unethical. Right, Well,

(30:22):
that's what I was getting. Yetis it seems like to me that
that would be an ethical and itseems like it would drive up the writing
of citations whether they were perhaps justifiedor not, or or perhaps nudge people
toward that borderline if you had somethinglike that. Now I can understand wanting
to justify the employee's presence or workwith you know, he has to write
this many tickets, because that's whatyou should be writing when you you should

(30:42):
be working, rather than just sittingin your car and you know, listen
to us, Yeah, who's atthe radio or whatever. But I mean,
so I can understand that, butyou're saying that there's not there's definitely
not any kind of bonus system orany kind of monetary incentive to be writing
the tickets. No, I meannot in an organization that I work with,
And it's it's just in it's oneof the largest in the stakes.

(31:04):
No, it's just that's a slipperyslope for for well any profession, especially
law enforcement. But once you startdoing that, that's just open the floodgates
to me for unethical practices, ifyou will. No, it makes it
makes perfect sense. I totally agree. I may ask you this real quick.

(31:26):
Have you did you see the ScottiSheffler situation. I didn't see you
need to, you know. Ijust saw like the little blurbs on like
when it first came out from seeingit, But I haven't seen the full
full like body cam and all thatstuff, but just listened from what you
guys reported as far as history andthings of that nature. Then you start

(31:48):
going, oh, okay, okay, why here's the thing I can say
that where I work that wouldn't betolerated. Okay, and period, I
believe you and my my experiences withlaw enforcement here in Colorado have been nothing
but positive. I've I've never hadan issue, uh you know, out

(32:10):
here. So I don't want tosee like I'm speaking bad of Alilaie's specifically
local police. But it was justfascinating to me to watch this and watch
the situation because this this officer isclearly not telling the truth based on the
video. I mean, if there'ssomething, if there's some video we're not
seeing whatever, but the one questionand we're off against the heartbreak here in
a minute. So I apologize forthat. We got to go to commercial,
but I want to ask you thisbefore we go. How often how

(32:30):
common an occurrence is it for abody camera not to be functioning or not
to be turned on? Is thatis that a regular occurrence? Does that
happen more often than we believe oris that that coincidence or is that not
supposed to happen? No, inColorado especially, it's it's state law as
of July of last year that everybodyhas a body cam and it will be

(32:50):
activated. And that's it's something youguys can look up. It's it's state
law because otherwise you're assumed to beengaged in an officer his conduct. So
Colorado is one of the strictest statesin the in the United States as far
as other requirements of buy one camera. Okay, well, hey man,
I really appreciate you clarifying all thatfor us. I've got other questions,

(33:13):
but unfortunate we're up against it tonight. We got to guess in the next
segment. So maybe we'll maybe we'lltry to get you you have you on
to explain some other stuff that we'regenuinely curious about. I appreciate you absolutely,
Good night, all right, takecare, all right, I just
appreciate you. Get a great calllike that, somebody knows what they're talking
about. So we got hit abreak. We come back Chris Thomas and
because that joys a sprucles country tonight
