Welcome back to it, Broncos Countrytonight. Benjamin Olbright here with you,
joined on the microphone by the onethe only EOG triple OG, wearer of
beards, purveyor of flannels, listenerof Dave Matthews. Yeah, mother of
Dragons, Ryan Edwards. All truetruth across the board on all of it.

(00:21):
Although today today I did not goflannel for mandatory mini camp. You
did not. You went with thethe You went with the corporate polo,
which is somehow worse, corporate corporateKO polo. You went with the home
You went with the home team poloshirt, which is somehow worse. I
want. I wanted to be representativeof the station out there, right,
I mean, we're out there,and I don't think anybody knows that that

(00:42):
we're working, that we work forKOA unfamiliar with that concept. Yeah,
no, I understand, I understand, No, no, I I I
don't know. It was it waslike the first polo I saw, and
I knew I can't get away.I know, I can't get away with
flannel, even my summer flannels inthe summer in this well, standing in
eighty plus great temperatures for two anda half hours. It really was.

(01:04):
It was a little it was alittle warm out there. Actually. I
thought it was a pretty nice dayoverall. We've had some smart days,
but I was good practice overall andsort of looking forward to get into with
you. Yeah, we got aton of a ton of news. I
want to come right out of thegate with the big story of the day.
Joey Chestnut is not going to bein the Nathan's Hot Dog Eating commercial

(01:25):
contest this year, as he hassigned a deal to apparently hawk Vegan Wieners.
That's that's his thing. Somehow thisis my fault. Well, it's
your people, So you know yourpeople have ruined this. I don't watch
the Hot doggy eating contest. It'sjust not really my thing. You know,
if I wanted to watch dudes getsick shoving a bunch of wiers in

(01:45):
their mouth, I'm just gonna letthat hang in here, Just just gonna
let that hang in the air. You're all on your own, nor you
were talking about this out there today. There's nobody there today. There's no
safety that you. It's just me. I know the things that you say
I mean with and I would almostdare you or defy you to actually bring

(02:08):
some of that onto the air,but I don't want to. I don't
want it because you know I will, because you will, and I like
you employed here. I like beingable to do It's the thing like I
literally like, you know, Imean, we'll go back and edit that
out, but you know everybody will, Oh, you know you should leave
that in. Okay, well we'llleave it in. Then please don't leave
it in. We'll see we're definitelyleaving this part in this people will wonder

(02:30):
it is unfortunate. That's also athing I don't watch. I mean,
like, dude, do we carebecause it's like a thing, well,
sudden you sid you saigned a onepoint two million dollar doorsement deal with Vegan
hot dogs or whatever. Yeah, really good. Yeah, it's impossible to
do the same thing. I Idon't I don't understand it. I mean,
it's a I don't understand the fascinationwith watching the contest to begin with,

(02:51):
which is really just a commercial forNathan's hot Dogs, which is a
weird, you know, sort offlex because it's pretty gross to watch.
It's disgusting. Yeah, you're dippingin water and trying to slide them down
you know they're trying to glizzy gulpor whatever they call it. Oh yeah,
I can't wait for Alfred to douh huh to talk about Glizzies again.
Big stuff coming up on KO Sports. Wait uh no, man,

(03:13):
listen. I feel like I deservea producer's credit. It is it is.
It is a thing that people enjoyaround July fourth, July fourth,
it's I don't know, it's it'sit's kind of the thing we we do.
But it's not something that I particularlylove. But that doesn't mean I'm
gonna kind of somebody else. Yea. If you guys love watching the Nathan's

(03:34):
Hot Dog eating contest and that's yourthing, good for you. I have
nothing further to add to that.Well, you let off with his story.
Where else did you think it wasgonna go? I was trying to
zig when everybody else. I wastrying to come out of the gate with
something that would throw you off.But you've you've got used to my antics.
No. As soon as I foundout about this, because I was
down there in the medius scrumb andstarted to make the rounds their memories.
Oh yeah, yeah, see that'sthe But that's the thing why is everyone

(03:55):
like about a hot dog eating contest. He's the he's the goat, like
he's the greatest of all time.At it there there is. There's very
few athletes. And I say thatreally stretch the word athlete is carrying a
ton of water here, more waterthan they used to dunk those hot dogs
in. It's just the eats abunch of hot dogs and then vomits like.

(04:17):
It's just not athleticism, but thesheer dominants, like the scene from
Kingpin when Randy Quaid's looking around atall the other bowlers and talking about being
in the presence of such great athletes. God, what a great pole.
You know. I hate it,but you did you did good. There.
I'm just saying it. They're alloverweighted the back braces on a movie
so underrated. But anyways, isthe sheer dominance of what Joey Chessa does

(04:44):
can't be ignored, It cannot bedenied. So for whatever what it's worth
and whatever damage he's doing to hisbody long term, hey people, people
really love it. You don't knowhis like it's synonymous, right, I
mean, you think about eating contestsand and I don't know how you actually
think about eating contests, although lookingat your body, I would anyways.
Every day is an eating contest forme. My fight is just to watch

(05:09):
it die, all right. Butmy point is is the shere dominance of
what he does is under that couldbe Could it be compared to Jordan and
the Rings. Could it be comparedto Broncos Country Tonight and winning CBA Awards
for nighttime Sports talk Radio? Yeah, I think they're all synonymous. That's
all basically the same thing. It'sall the same level, the same standard,

(05:30):
and won't even put shows on oppositeus anymore. I mean, it's
just weird. It's got a nationalsyndication, should be a trend in radio
or just you're right, I meanto be honest, like, that's the
thing I look every day. Ilook at that and I'm like I look
at that, and I'm like, you know what, they won't even It's
it's like if Jordan's showed up atthe finals and the opposing teams like,
we can't compete. You have moneywith yourself, having a great time,
having a good day out of thesun for it. You you showed up

(05:54):
after stretching. Yeah, I waitedfor the stretching to be over before I
showed up, because I'm not anidiot. Well, but I'm some of
us are working during that time. What what were you doing that was considered
work? I had to send photosto a ron well while they were stretching.
I went ahead and put some tarover here on the roofs of shingles
down. It was our only chanceto get shots of Corland because Carlin went
on working on the side field, right, and that's fair, Then that

(06:16):
is fair. You're taking shots forfreight, right, I've done that.
I mean, it's so disive youas the broncos insidre to saunter in with
your dragon fruit drink from Starbucks whereeverybody else is out there, spottle.
It was a bottle of water. It was a celsius dragon fruit. It
was dragon fruit line, by theway, But it wasn't dragon fruit limee
celsius. It really was. Itwas well done. I was like,
did he smell that? I'm sittinghere, like did he? Did he?

(06:39):
They really smell because it was thedragon fruit limee celsius. Powders put
in a water bottle were about thelittle powder packet. I was like,
man, I'm sure you did nowyou've derailed my good day. I've been
your head. You're in my head. I thought it was in your head.
Nope, it was like it's likethe reverse, the kind of I
thought it was being John Malcovich, but it's not. No, this is
key New York did some kinds ofcels on you. That's a deep pull
right there. Yeah, five sixsix nine zeros text on you. Guys

(07:00):
want to get involved the conversation. It was a pretty good day for the
quarterbacks out there at at Mandatory mindikip. I thought everybody was pretty efficient today.
I don't think anybody had a badday from the quarterback perspective. There's
something about bon NICKX I want toget to. We'll get to that a
little bit later that I want tonitpick on. But he and Jared Stidham
had the best days and probably Nick'shad the best throw at the end of
the day. There overall, Ithought I thought it was efficient. Again,

(07:23):
you're talking about without pads, speedyrunning backs are going to look good
because there's no pads, which theydid, like you know McLoughlin and even
Tyler Baty, who I've never saida complimentary word about in my life.
Look good out there, so Iyou know, I mean I thought I
thought overall was a good day.I thought it was just a good day
of practice. It really was.And for me, it's the juxtaposition of

(07:44):
last week in Odoca's, which wasnot a very good practice, especially for
the offense. The offense really struggledlast week. It is windy, but
you'd still want to see them sortof executing the offense, and they just
they had a terrible day. Allthree quarterbacks, I mean, Sindham hasn't
really had a bad day, butit just wasn't one of those. Like
I mean, even I was sittingout my tweet that I always do after
practices kind of talking about all threequarterbacks. I'm like, I don't know

(08:07):
what else to say about Jared Stidam. He just does the same thing every
day. He finds the check down, he doesn't make a lot of mistakes,
the ball is never at risk, and okay, you can, you
know, you can make a careeras a backup generally doing those kinds of
things. And Sean Payton made ita point to praise Jared Stidham for looking
sharp thus far. I mean hehas I mean, listen, I'm not
even down on him. I stillthink Bonix is the most impressive of the

(08:28):
quarterbacks, but that doesn't mean thatI can't acknowledge simultaneously that Jared's Stidham is
the most consistent. Every single practiceshould be you get that from him.
He's been in the system a year. He knows that, he doesn't he's
not learning anything at this point. He's just executing stuff he's known for a
year, and so he should atthis point look better. That should be
the way that it looks. Itis, but you still have to go

(08:52):
out there and do it right. So we say that it should be that
way, and just like we saythat Zach Wilson should always have the strongest
arm and constantly put the ball atrisk. But the thing is, today
he didn't do that. You know, today he had a good day.
I thought Zach Wilson probably had oneof his more patient days that we've seen
so far this offseason, which isa great thing. It's a great thing
to see him do that sort ofkind of emulate Jarrett a little bit and

(09:13):
take what the defense is giving himand then set them up for some nicer
throws, some some some deeper shots, and he obviously has that outarm talent
to do it. But it's oneof those things like sometimes in like it's
like in golf, right chicks tothe long ball, you're always you're out
there working on your driver over andover and over again, and then he
comes to the short game and you'remid game and you just you're terrible at

(09:35):
it, right, you're not daily. Yeah, And Zach Wilson and hitting
four hundred yards drives but can't puttlike he can. He can throw that
thing through a brick wall, overthem the mountains, thirty or forty yards
down field, but then, ohmy god, a ten yard out route
I mean, for crying out loud, like don't, don't forget about it
thrown back feet And it's the thinglike with Zach Wilson, if he ever

(09:56):
does get that, if it everdoes, like you know, click for
him. Where he's a guy whojust picks his poison, who you know,
bides his time and then picks hisshots. He could be something.
I mean, he's got all thetools there. It really is mental with
him. I mean you can seeit out there. It really is mental
with him. Saidim's a good influencein that respect. I think so if
he starts to you know, Imean, if anything having stid water out

(10:16):
there, like you know, kindof patterning. You know. Hey,
look, I just need to takewhat they give me. Until they give
me that shot, I don't Idon't need to create the shot. I
need them to create an opening soI can take the shot. And if
that ever conceptualizes for me, I'dbe a heck of a quarterback. So
and I think him looking good isgood for the Broncos. I don't think
him being bad is good for theBroncos anyway. I know everybody wants Bonix

(10:39):
to win a job. Everybody does. Everybody wants Boonics to be the guy
whatever. But to me, itdoesn't matter like best guy, who are
the best guy is? I wantto win. I don't care who the
best guy is. I don't careif they burned a first round or I
don't care if Zac Wilson takes it. I don't care if Didam takes it.
At the end of the day,if one of these guys is able
to win, boom, I'm good. Yeah. And chom Payne said that
today as well. I mean hesaid that the decision of the quarterback.

(11:00):
They don't have a date in mind. I think he just kind of wants
to see how it plays out.I mean, it's a very very Bill
Parcells kind of thing. Just say, let let's let's let him compete find
out. Maybe you know, I'mgonna see something that's gonna surprise me,
he said. But the goal hereis to win games, and not picking
a quarterback with the anticipation of,hey, we got to get some developmental
reps for Bonnicks, or we're pickinga quarterback because we don't want to rock

(11:22):
the rookie, or you know, you got to get a look at this
thing is the rest of the rosteris also going to be able to help
you with this process because they're gonnaknow. The locker room's going to know
who the best guy is. Andthere's nobody on this team right now because
you just can't do that in theNFL. That is like, hey,
let's take the rookie because we wantto develop him. Nobody's gonna start bon
Nicks unless he earns the job.And that's the way to do this.

(11:43):
I know there's some impatience. Quarterbackcompetitions are good. I'm not saying that
it would full circle. No,I'm not saying that. I'm saying right
now, I'm not in a hurryas in day one of mandatory mini camp
right to decide the quarterback. There'llbe some people out there that are in
a hurry for that. I'm notin hur now. We've you and I
have had this discussion before. Smartpeople don't don't pigeonhole themselves into decisions until

(12:03):
they have to write. You know, you you let this. You may
have a preferred conclusion, you mayhave, you know whatever, but you
let that. You let it playout for a reason. You know,
the last thing you want to dois make a snap decision. Something happens
and then you know you've got tobacktrack on something. So why not why
not just you know, let itplay out. And that that's I think
a good thing. You're right now, like what, you're not losing anything

(12:26):
Like some people say, well, and this is what I've said to a
point, Eventually, you're taking snapsaway from the eventual starter. Yes.
Yeah, And if we get threeweeks into camp and then and we don't
have an idea here, then we'restill and we're still splitting them thirty thirty
thirty. Then we then we gota problem. Yeah, but here in
the middle of June, I mean, unpadded natory mini camp, not even
I don't want one of them toearn it. I mean, honestly,

(12:46):
I want Bo to earn it.Like I mean, I'll tell you,
yeah, I think yeah, becauseI legitimately don't have a preference. I
don't care. Honestly, I thinkthe best thing for the Broncos of Zach
Wilson were to win it. Butthat would be that scenario, and I
can explain that later. I don'tcare. Alfred agrees with you, but
I don't have a rooting interest.Well, but alse like rooting for that,
I don't have a root. JaredStidwater can win it for all I
care. Well, no, buthe he's rooting keeping I keep calling him

(13:09):
stid Waters a reflex. Yeah, you gotta, you know, stop,
goin of stop and then you gottastart explaining why you do that. Well,
when I'm interviewed him, you knowso stid Water, Yeah, no
at it. But yeah, Alfred'sthing is more like big picture compensatory picks
and like I mean, it's it'sa I love out, but it makes
very little sense to me because he'scaring about anything. If Zach Wilson wins

(13:30):
nine games, which is what he'ssaying, like, oh, on Zach
Wilson to start and win nine games, and then we're getting a really nice
competitory pick when we let when helet him walk them free agency. I'm
like, if that Wilson wins ninegames for you, sign you're signing him
to an extension. That's the thing. If the quarterback's good, then you're
for me. It's more about,Hey, the guy with the best tools
out of the three happens to winit, you know, then so be
it. I don't care about itat this point. I don't care that

(13:52):
boat was picked at twelve and youtraded it. That's sunk cost, Paalacy,
I don't care all three or thisis what you have. Whoever wins
it wins it, and not enoughteams, I think good to that.
The big story of the day,I think those is the wide receiver room.
Courtland sutt was back, although wecertainly didn't see much out of him.
Tim Patrick looked like he's back.He looks really good. He looks
sharp today. And then the thirdwide receiver, little Jordan Humphrey. It

(14:13):
was it was a struggle bus dayfor a little bit. Yeah. I
again, I'm we'll see how itlooks. I mean, there's competition in
the back end of that room. But the good news, like you said,
courts back out there. They didn'twant to throw him in the deep
end. They want to give himsome time to get acclimated. But in
the meantime that gives as it hasbeen all off season, gives other guys
a chance to step up. MarvinMims had a practice a drop early,

(14:35):
but he caught a couple of nicepasses later on a team, which is
great. I mean the balls onthe ground a little bit early anyways,
and then they sharpened things up overall. Like we said, it was a
good practice, especially for the offensiveside of the ball. The defense had
a couple of nice moments too.I want to give a shot out to
Riley Moss who had a really nicePBu step for step with a wide receiver
about twenty yards downfield. I justmade a nice adjustment to the ball,

(14:58):
was able to track it, putit, put it hand up and bat
it away. But you know, there's competition there with the cornerbacks as well,
so that there's also some really coolstorylines. It was a really good
mandatory mini kempt practice. They dida lot of punt team today, which
I mean, it is what itis. We saw a variety of guys
back there. Obviously Marvin Mims backthere turn and I expected to win the
job. But we saw some otherpeople back there, Riley Moss, we

(15:20):
saw treymont Smith. Yeah, therewere several people back there. Yeah,
So what I find interesting. Ona sort of side note, we got
to see kickoffs during rookie mini campand they haven't shown us yet in all
sense. And I've had my eyeon that. I mentioned that on the
show last night, not one othertime had my eye because that's the thing.
It's like, I'm like, whenam I gonna I'm hungry to see

(15:41):
this, and it's it's something they'redeliberately shielding the public from. So it'd
be interesting to see really what theycome out of there. We'll go back
to the wide receivers here real quick. It's a crowded wide receiver room.
We got twelve guys right now,and you got to figure that there's probably
only gonna be six that make thethat make the fifty three, maybe one
or two that make the practice squad. But it's a it's a pretty crowded
room right now. And and guyswho showing some promise before, like Jalen
Virgil and Brendon Johnson, those guysare gonna have to bust out, I

(16:03):
think in training camp this year orthey're gonna be gone. M Yeah,
well, and that's and that's theproblem is the room keeps getting ads,
right right. You add Troy Franklin, you add Devine Veley, you are
brought back Tim Patrick, you addedJosh Reynolds. It's a room that keeps
keeps getting added. And yeah, you have expectation of Marvin Mims taking a
step forward. Courtland Sudden is back, which is only going to push a

(16:26):
lot of those guys down. Soyou're absolutely right. You really can't have
too many missed opportunities or bad practicesif you're one of these guys like little
Jordan Humphrey, for example, youjust can't. You can't do that.
Jalen Virgil didn't really pop today. He's had some moments during training camp.
I'm not or during off season training. I'm not gonna sit here and say
that I haven't noticed him at all. But but where we're sitting today,

(16:49):
the top six are kind of gettingdefined as long as Court is here,
and it looks like it's probably gonnabe the case. The top six is
kind of getting locked in. Soyou're hoping that you can make the practice
squad if you're in these these kindsof territory for a lot of these players,
which is you know again, isno guarantee either. Yeah, it's

(17:10):
gonna be real interesting to see,you know how that how that shakes out
at the end when there's so manybodies, so few reps, and some
guys who uh, you know, like I said, Virgil and Johnson,
those guys aren't young anymore. Youknow, you've been around the league.
You have to break out this campin order to, uh, in order
to really secure a roster spot orsecure a reason to to to kind of
keep you around. I mean, you saw Sean Payton punt on Kendall hinting

(17:33):
the legend around here, you know, and they have to buy a beer
in this town. So, uh, when we come back, I want
to talk a little bit about somethings about Bownicks that are bugging me.
Something I've I've started to notice andit's starting to jump out that it's not
like a one time thing, sowe'll get a chance to talk about that.
This is the Broncos Country Tonight righthere on KA. It's eight fifty
ninety four one FM News Talk Sports. Welcome back to it, Broncos Country

(17:55):
Tonight. Benjamin Albright continuing our chathere with KA Sports. Ryan Edwards.
I'm sorry that I did not givethat part of your very important title in
earlier but I want to make surethat we we get that an afternoon drive
host, Ryan Edwards and no longerlimited to evening radio. Ryan, you
just you're making it weird. It'svery awkward now, but I'll say thank

(18:17):
you. I guess, I mean, I just you know, I mean,
this is a titan of the industry. I look up to you and
the uh tell me to tighten up, so you know, I mean,
there were a couple of cracks aboutputting on a few although you you tend
to do which I think is probablythe smart thing. What I would tend
to do is just lean into it, just like pointed out before they have

(18:37):
a chance to point it out.Yes, that is the that is the
the weight. I learned this earlyon in life, like the way I
was a really really skinny kid, yeah, like like like really skinny,
and and I was a big Likewhen I was born, I was nine
pounds eleven ounce. It was likeit was a big kid. But I
was skinny in body, but myhead grew very fast, so it took
a while for like my body tocatch up. So I looked kind of

(18:59):
weird and like the you know, like the third fourth grade. And I
learned to lean into those jokes, like pre empt them with the jokes,
say, because if you make thejoke first, then nobody else can make
the joke. You've already made it. It's not funny. They're not gonna
get the laughs. See that worksto a point, you're right, But
that only works to a point whenyou have a bad haircut like you did
a while back. I could therewas no way I could make all of
the jokes before somebody else could getto them. Couldn't lab all of them.

(19:22):
And by the time I cut itoff at the knees, but there
was still to need to hit, right, I only took them out a
foot out of those jokes. Soyeah, you you got there, But
it wasn't it wasn't all of it. Yeah it was. It was a
bad haircut. Boy, I lookedlike I look like a resident of early
nineteen forties Germany. It was itwas not great. I had worked really
hard to make sure I didn't getany dirt on my upper lip. It

(19:44):
was it was a bad It wasa bad haircut. And now you just
wear a hat every day? Werealternative treatment or short the log sleeves?
You know has this per my youloog sleeve T shirt where you refused to
wear sleeves, got to show theguns. You wear short sleeves and long
pants all the time. Oh,I go the opposite, or I'm like
the zemat to your Tomax. There'sa reference for you who wears the the

(20:04):
long sleeves with the shorts. Andguess who's cooler out there? Me?
You absolutely, I heard already,But but I also I could ask the
question. It looks like they tried. Maybe actually took a shower. I
took a shower? Did you yesterday? Oh? Actually, I'm just kidding.
That's usually take three. I'm liketwo showers a day, Like that's

(20:25):
not you know, that's not problem. I'm definitely shower guy. Uh shower
too much and he's moisturizer because ofthe in the shower too much, and
it's it's taking the moisture out ofthe skin. It's so weird we talk
about bo Nix yet, like,do you know we don't talk about me
showering anymore? You sure? Ijust the fans are here for this.
I really don't. I don't.Across across thirty two states and three countries
right now, people are listening tome talking about my shower habitska. This

(20:45):
is this is the content I've aspiredto over the course of my life.
Although I will say, hey, look, may're you and Nick your whole
discussion about you know, actually usingsoap and wash cloth. Yeah, that
was a week long discuss. Iknow, I know he was quote unquote
rivetting. I mean we were talkedabout in the coffee shops. Yes,

(21:06):
locally, locally nine or ten peoplebo Nix everybody h Bownicks. Like one
thing that's bugging me a little bit, And you were talking about, you
know, he's changing the arm angleand he is. He does change the
armengo when he throws the ball.Something that is bothering me though, is
that in the face of pressure thusfar without pads and all this kind of

(21:27):
stuff, And I'm waiting to seeif that occurs when we get the pads
on, because it's not something youreally saw a ton of on tape.
I'm just seeing this now. Iskind of doing this this step back off
his back foot, phil rivers sidearm thing, and it's taken. It's
first of all, anytime you dothat, it's gonna ta philosophy off the
ball. I it looks like justa bad habit that's all of a sudden

(21:48):
manifesting itself. It hasn't been aproblem so far camp, but if I
were doing that in practice, mycoach would have strangled me, like this
is like, what are you doingkind of thing? And it sort of
bugging me that it's something that's notlike a one time thing. This is
becoming prevalent. It is. It'stough to say because we don't really know
the coaching he's getting, but Iunderstand your point, and it's a habit

(22:11):
that you typically, especially for youngquarterbacks, you don't really want them to
get into. But on the otherside of it, you know he's completing
those passes and I wanted to seehim outside of structure, and today I
thought was his best day so farthis offseason, working in a more improvisational
role. I had said even lastweek and Dave chided me for it.

(22:33):
But I said last week on KioSports that he looks like a quarterback that
it really kind of needs to bethere right away or else he's going to
struggle. And Dave said, Nope, don't. I don't see that.
Watch him at Oregon. He's aguy that can work outside of structure.
Trust me on that. I thinkhe's gonna be fine. I said,
Okay, today we saw some ofthat. We saw some of the improvisational

(22:53):
ability of bon Nicks. You mentionedthat the last pass of the practice,
it is a perfect example of thatkind of scramble to his right. We
don't even know who the wide receiveris because he was at a camp invite
guy that they never really told uswhere the ghost we're number thirty, like
there's like no thirty on it.But whatever it does doesn't matter down here,
just trying for one more downfield andit was just it was a great

(23:15):
play. It was a great playby bo. He bought time that that's
tough throw to make. That isa very difficult throw to make, kind
of back across his body. Soalso another thing that from a habit standpoint,
you don't really love too much becausethose are the pasts that they usually
get picked off, but the factis they haven't been. You do like
to see a little bit of that. I like to see some of the
improvisational stuff, especially for me someof the arm angled change, only because

(23:41):
I was worried that he was goingto be very robotic early on. And
if he doesn't have the play dialedin and Sean tells him exactly what to
do and he and it's not rightthere right away, then he's not gonna
be able to execute it. Forme, this was this is a good
thing because it's showing some comfort outthere in the offense. I'm not gonna
say it's a good thing, butI'm not going to say it's a bad

(24:03):
thing. I'm at the point whereI'm like, get all that out now,
you know, like test the limitsof your arm now, test the
limits of doing those kinds of things, what you're available to do, what
the speed is on the field, and being able to adjust the passes that
you do like that. And tobe honest with you, I hope he
gets picked off a couple of timesdoing that. So it reinforces. Hey,
I can't get away with this allthe time. But so when I

(24:23):
look at you know, practice, you know, we're talking about practice,
not a game, not a game, practice, not a game that we
love, right, practice, Ithink that that's what that's for. It's
for going out there and trying thingsand making mistakes and then correcting those mistakes
and so you get it. Soyou know what the limitations are when you
get to the game. So youknow what what the parameters are, you

(24:45):
know where the boundaries are, youknow where the limits are, all that
kind of stuff. And I thinkthat for a rookie like that, I
think it's valuable to test those, you know, to test the fences like
a velociraptor as it were. ButI think that I'm not I'm not gonna
call it a good thing because Idon't think it's a good happen to be.
But I'm not gonna sit here andsay it's a bad thing either.
I'm just gonna say that it's somethingthat I've noticed, and I'm like,
huh, all right, I wonderhow long this continues. Well, we

(25:08):
haven't seen a lot of it.Honestly, I'm not saying that I haven't
seen him try it change his armangle. He just did it more today
than he's done. You know,it's like it was glaring today. Yeah,
maybe that's why I'm I'm picking onit a little bit. But this
this whole like off the back foot, side arm, you know, kind
of thing. And I'm like, bro Zach Wilson is not the guy you
need to emulate. So that's it. That's funny you bring that up.
We were talking about how Zack Wilsontrying to emulate Jared's did him a little

(25:30):
bit more trying to emulate Wilson,And I'm like, are they trolling each
other? Is there? Am Imissing something here? Passes? Maybe they
Swiss jerseys before. Yeah, it'syou know, it's it's with Deadpool,
you know, am I missing somethinghere? When when Peter shows up with
the you know, I don't lookforward to the new one, the man
with a mustache. But yeah,so I say, it's nothing caused for

(25:52):
concern for me and I I'm theopposite of you. I'm I'm not necessarily
looking for him to have problems, and I know that you're where your point
is is do those things in practicethat you don't do them in games.
But the other side of it forme is like I wanted him to gain
confidence and know that that he canbe he can use a little artistry out

(26:14):
there. Like I said, Iwas, I was really really paranoid that
the design of this thing would beJared Goff Sean McVay. I'm I'm telling
you what you're gonna do. Imean, yeah, and you know you
could get away with that, right, especially as a rookie, especially with
the young quarterback. Sean Payton isa really brilliant designer of plays. That's

(26:34):
not what's happening to it. Boonixis out there singing, there's no strings
on me. I see, Idon't even know what to do with that.
I read a book, Yeah,I I I thought we saw some
great things from Boonex today. Ithought we saw some great things from from
Cinnama even had a good couple ofnice moments. And then, like I

(26:55):
said, I was great to seeZach Wilson be much more patient than and
we've seen him so far. Sothe quarterbacks today all very good. Yeah,
jumps up across Scortland looks tremendous. That's what I was gonna say.
Both him and Tyler Bady And I'venever sat here, you know, praising
Tyler Baby. But speedy, smallrunning backs look good when you don't have
pads. They do. And bulkyor power guys don't really look quite as

(27:17):
good when you don't have pads becausethey don't have anything to do. You
know, they think their skill setis is sort of nullified, so that
you would expect that, But Juliadoes kind of look like, you know,
it's it's more than just hey,I'm a small, speedy guy and
we don't have pads on right now. Like he's he was, they were
decisive in their cuts today. Hewas doing you know, he was,
he was out there doing really well. But he's in this all off season.

(27:37):
That's the thing is, like todaywas a last off season. I
was sitting there salivating from was arookie Minnie campooties last year, and I'm
like, hey, this dude, hold on a minute, you know.
So so it's you know, Ithink that I think there's something there.
I want to pivot a little bitwhile we get some time to the defense,
because I think things are going tolook a little different this year.
First of all, I know it'sno pads, but the defensive lines getting
better. The offense, oh yeah, and consistently well, especially and third

(28:00):
team first team Nick Bonito continues tobe just a Yes. I think he's
going to be a national name thisyear. That said, the defense,
some of the stuff that they're runningout there looks like more traditional Vance Joseph
type stuff. Vance comes from theWade Phillips schools, and you know,
you want to pressure the quarterbacks andeverything. The last you know, however
many years we've had it, it'sbeen the opposite. It's been the Vic

(28:21):
Fangil thing, tight front drop, everybody backs in the least amount. You
need to quartersmash, middle of fieldopen, and I don't think we're going
to see that this year. Idon't think we're going to see Vance running
Vic stuff. I think we're goingto see Vance running Vance the stuff.
And I think that that's first ofall indicated by the personnel they brought in.
You saw the big bodies up front. Vance Joseph needs big bodies to
tie up blockers and then shoot theyou know, the linebackers are gonna shoot

(28:42):
gaps and then I haven't seen alot of type front out there. I
haven't seen a lot of middlefield, open type coverage. It's been single high
safety type stuff. Brandon Jones downmore towards the box, PJ. Lock
high. They had what's his faceout there? Devint Ke out there today
getting a lot of earlier reps. That was interesting. But I think we're
gonna see more of what Vance Josephruns, and I think that's a good

(29:04):
thing. I do too. Ithink if it's this team a little better,
and I think Broncos fans are whateverthey think of Vance Joseph at this
point is relevant. I mean,it's relevant to them, but it's it's
it's irrelevant to what we need fromthis defense, which is to be a
better unit altogether. And I dothink stylistically, Vance Joseph is going to
bring a lot of pressure. We'veseen a lot of dB blitzes we've seen,

(29:27):
I mean, we can't get toospecific, but but we are that's
a thing we're going to see morethis year. You don't see in the
Vic Fangio and then a zero Verrocontinuing that, then Vance continuing that you
don't see blitz is from the corners. There's no corner blitzing in vic Fangio's
world. In fact, there's veryrarely any type of dB blitz whatsoever.
The only time you get that iswhen you you know, safety blitz off

(29:47):
a zero when he when he bringsa house and and that happens, you
know, in obvious third and longsituations with Vance Joseph, he'll bring corners,
he will bring the slot corner, and he'll he'll do it frequently one
hundred percent. So well, we'llsee a lot of that this year.
And they tried to run a bitof a hybrid last year between Vance and
Vic, and it was a disaster. We saw the culmination of the disaster
of the Miami game because what youhave Vic Fangiel's scheme requires the safeties to

(30:11):
line up at a certain depth andthen move forward, and Vance was having
guys line up with the depths he'sused to instead of you know, and
trying to run that and it doesn'twork. And then we saw that the
run fits were way off and Miamiabsolutely gouged that you know what out of
them. But then they improved,Right, they started getting a lot of
turnovers and that obviously assisted in thefive five game winning streak. Right,
it wasn't six games five game winningstreak. And and you know, Vance

(30:36):
Joseph had a lot to do withthat. Yeah, he really did.
He really did. So if thatguy is Flowers, yeah, but here
and I understand, like again, people have their opinions of Vance Joseph,
and I'm sure there's people rolling theireyes or whatever, thinking that we're just
trying to build him up for noreason. But I agree with you in
the sense of what we've seen sofar. Pads are on yet, so

(30:56):
some of it's tough to really discern. But the defensive line looks better.
JFM looks really really good out there. Malcolm Roach had a bad pass today.
He looks really good out there. And like I said, Nick,
Benito is just a revelation. Imean he is. He's been so difficult.
They don't right now. And againit's always against your own team,
so it's like, man, thisis a problem or not. They don't

(31:17):
have an answer for him. Theyreally don't. He gets pressure, he
gets to the quarterback, he getsand he knocks over whoever's back there trying
to block him. He gets throughmultiple blocks. I do agree with you
in the sense that he's gonna probablyput up his best stats for his entire
career. Is Nick Benito a validationof George Peyton as general manager? I

(31:38):
think it should be. I mean, again, we got to see him
play, right, I mean hewas good. He's been good, yeah,
But if he takes that next step, does it really validate what George
Payton you know, has done.Because George Peyton, I think the areas
where he struggled has been in freeagency. Yeah. I think he's absolutely
crushed it in the draft outside ofI mean, like Dulsich was the Hacket
pick that wasn't you know, thatwasn't George pay This guy that was Nate

(32:00):
Hackett's guy that he d You understandwhy they picked him. I mean they
wanted one of those kinds of tightends, right, but that was the
guy Hackett one, like George Paytonwas kind of like you know, I
mean even though U c l Aand that can actually like stuff. I
was into it. I love Iliked Great Distange a lot. But yeah,
anyway, I under say your point, right, I think that Nick
Benito is an absolute validation of GeorgePayton. And people have you know,

(32:21):
have dumped on George Payton for quitesome time for a couple of things.
They not necessarily entirely his his doing. A lot of that head circumstances to
do with the ownership change and thingsthat were going on in the quarterback and
all that stuff. But I dothink that Nick Benito not having those draft
picks, you get to the endof the second round and you find an
edge rusher of that kind of caliber, I think that's an absolute validation that
and taking Pats or Tan over justinfields despite the media pressure. Yeah,

(32:44):
I see a few Quinn Minors isgoing to get ANODER contract here, so
that'll be another player that we There'smore players that I could do that,
But I'm just saying the first picksof some of these drafts, like the
Pats are Tan thing. You geta decision there, do we go with
the draft a rookie quarterback or dowe you know, do we go out
here? And and he went outand got passer ted. He got a
top five corner in this league andignored a quarterback that's backing up, backing

(33:04):
up Russ who the Broncos paid togo away in Pittsburgh. Then you got,
you know, you Nick Bedino allthe way to the end of the
second round and you find a dynamicedge Rusher all the w at the end
of the second round. I mean, that's big. Well, and Marvin
Mims is going to play a reallybig role this year, right, Yeah,
so that I mean, and hewas a pro bowler in his first
year, so you know, again, it's it's tough in the moment because
the misses are so glaring. Imean, they just are, right,

(33:27):
I mean, and including Randy Gregory, who's in the news because he's suing
the NFL and the Broncos and allthat. But yeah, the misses with
Russell Wilson, the miss with NathanielHackett, those are glaring and somewhat inexcusable
at times. But on the otherside of it, there are plenty of
hits. It's not like it's beensuch a disaster that there's just really nothing
working at all. There's a reasonwhy ownership is still keeping around. There's

(33:50):
a reason why Sean Paygon wants tocontinue to work with him. There's a
reason he's still a very, veryhighly respected member of the scouting community and
as a general manager. So again, people who are frustrated with him for
everything else, that's totally fine, but understand there are a lot of hits
in there. There are a lotof hits in there. There are a
lot of core players, core piecesthat I think going forward are going to

(34:12):
be household names real quick. Aboutten seconds left, you're picking the Broncos
to go seventeen to no Am notBut I'm more optimistic as we watch these
practices, Okay, I'm with them. Appreciate you joining us. Ryan Edwards,
the Og, the Triple Og,the Godfather, Comrade Edwards himself in
all his bearded glory. Always appreciateyou Stopping by Broncos country tonight right here
