(00:45):
Heart radio app, wherever you getyour uh your podcast, we are We're
there, and if you do theiHeart one, you can leave the little
red microphone things, you little talkback things. We love getting those.
Let's like a little voicemail messages. We love getting those things. So chances
are you'll get it on the air. Sometimes you can even make yourself an
icon. The whole carrot cake thingstarted from the talkback function, did it,
(01:06):
bro Have you even tried carry likelike? That? Came from that,
came to the talkback function. Alot of it, honestly, comrade,
everysthing came from the top. Somuch has come from the talkback thing,
Like, so much of that stuffhas come to the talkback stuff.
I love that. So that's agreat way of incentivizing interaction with the show.
Through the talkback you become essentially partof the show if you do something
that is like, oh my god, over the top. No station from
(01:30):
Utah is like a legend for that. So I'm just saying, like,
you can become a legend you youdo, can become iconic by using the
talkback feature. I'm just saying,if someone did that, can we go
into the one percent? Can webuy one percent into their stock? Yes,
we'll look in ato that. We'regonna we're gonna get it. We're
gonna to the stock together an IPO. I'm gonna allow you guys to uh,
(01:52):
you know, to get a shareof my future earnings. And I'm
looking at this. Ten percent ofnothing divided by nothing is still nothing,
So you'll be you'll be set foryou know, I just want people to
pay ten percent of my bills tenpercent of your bills. Ki, Can
you do that on your own, especially with the little daily wages that you
make. No, I'm kidding,Yeah, I mean it's yeah, it's
(02:14):
it's I mean, I'm not givingthat money away now, Well, you
could feel free to share it andjust Shannon, I'm sure they've been known
to share. Like on occasion,I've been known to throw a pizza party
around here or whatever else and takecare of food. Damn the pizza party.
He keep the pizza. Pizza,Sir, I want the coin as
you want me to break you offsome cash. Yeah, here's an envelope
(02:37):
with money. Yes, of course, who wouldn't love that? Like if
you were driving around and you wereat the gas station and someone walked over
to you to say, excuse me, ma'am, excuse me, sir,
don't worry about pumping your gas. That's on us to me. Hey,
yes, it's a small gesture, but it goes a long way. Well,
then maybe we can maybe we cando that. Maybe at some point
(02:58):
we can come we can have somekind of like find Ben and Nick.
We have an envelope of cash inour pocket and we will hand you that
cash. Like we need to comeup with some kind of contest for this.
So we just gotta drive around theMetro Denver area just looking for you
and I are just living our everydaylives. And if someone comes up to
this and says, give me yourmoney, like like a key phrase or
maybe Robbie type. Don't know aboutthat phrase, give me your money,
(03:23):
let's get jacked robbery type frase. But you get the idea they come up
to you, you know, thesecret phrase or something like that, we
get hand you an envelope of cash. Where we are, yes, okay,
yes, I personally will just stayat my house all the time so
I never have to get a cashaway. I thought it would have been
better for us to just drive aroundand just somebody wants that. You see
(03:43):
people walk around whatever it is,and because then people are gonna know what
kind of car I drive, andI don't want that. No, you
okay, you driving? You parksomewhere, we get out, we walk
and we just say okay, well, like at the mall or something anywhere.
I said, you know what thatfamily looks like that they can you
see. I don't want to legup, but I don't want to.
I hear that. I don't wantto go out there and pick winners and
losers, though I'd rather they findus that way. That way, it's
(04:06):
your own. It's your own effortand enterprise. So you said winners and
losers. No, there there areno losers because it's only winners with this
idea is because but if I pickthis family and I don't pick this family,
it's a winter loser. I meanthe family that you didn't pick.
But no, because you didn't pickthem. But I don't know whatever,
whatever, I'm just saying, Iwant them to put the effort in to
find us. Oh man, it'syou know, what have you ever gonna
(04:28):
have? People drive it all overDenver like crazy, chase us down.
We're running for it. Money,we have money, dressed up like us
and say, okay, here's wherewe're gonna be. Somebody's printed out a
mask. You know, it's likewhen in Deadpool where his staple? What
is it? The guy played WolverineHugh Jackman's face overs he cut out the
People Magazine covered staple face. We'renot gonna do that. But it's always
(04:53):
awesome to walk up to unsuspected individualand give them something. It's just like
I'm with it, just something aboutthe heroes. Thank you. Yeah.
But even though you know, thewhole idea that the individuals didn't know that
they were going to be rewarded withsome you know, financial conversation. But
when they came in, it waslike, hey, listen, great for
serving the country. Here's what's beinggiven to you through our general sponsors.
(05:15):
The look on the faces of thefamilies. Man, I'd love to do
that for people. Okay, allright, we can. We can come
up with something like we'll work onthis, we'll have this come up with.
But the money's got to come fromyou. Though, why does it
have to come from me? Whycan't come from a sponsor? Well,
I mean it could come too forward. Right, Hey, look how generous
Benjamin Albright is actually being. Ohand by the way, we have another
(05:38):
sponsor who's adding on top of that. I can get behind some of that.
Benjamin, all right? Making itrain contest, Yeah, I don't
know we call them. That's notwe're not calling We're at that. I'm
looking at seeing there's multiple people thatare absolutely hardline knows on that. Absolutely
not. Okay, Well we'll comeup with something. I figured it out.
By the way, if you evergo to uh uh, I think
(05:59):
everybody knows what it means by makingit rain with the money and the visual
effect thereof in Canada. They don'thave dollar bills. It's dollar coins like
the loonies and the tunes. Youdo not do not know on my experience,
personal experience, do not go intoa gentleman's establishment and instead of making
it rain, I guess making ithail. They don't. They don't.
(06:19):
They don't care for that at all. No, being quite familiar with loonies
and tunies, being as though Iplayed in the CFO, No, that's
not something you want to do.Yeah, I went in and tried to
make it hail and it was not. No, it was not well received.
No, I may have been ejected. The Canadian people, known for
their politeness, not polite that day. Well, I guess it's safe to
(06:42):
say that your passport will not bestamped the Canada. I was just the
second bend to get thrown out ofthat particular establishment in a week, Affleck
being the other one. How Iam not surprised. It's you know,
we have at the annual meeting ofthe Benz we know about these kinds of
things. Of course, five sixtime zero is a text. Lawn and
Broncos have a new approach. Canthat bring new results? Yes it can?
(07:05):
And for me The idea is thatwhen when the game is always evolving,
and as a coach, you shouldevolve as well. If you try
something, it doesn't work, yougo back to the lab and you try
something else. It's like being amad scientist. You got to find the
right mixture that brings the team together. So when I think about when you
(07:29):
say that, immediately my mindset goesto where the Broncos are and not having
that extra day of mini camp.To me, it goes a long way
because you're kind of breaking if youwant to look at it this way,
your approach of what you've done inyears past. But now you're doing something
different and you are rewarding the playersand the coaches for the work that they
(07:50):
put in. And when you dothat, the coaches and the players they
remember that. Hey remember way backwhen when coach gave up, gave us
an extra day off and centers kindof like, uh, where we were
going to go to kind of getour mind and tune for what the season
is going to be. Yeah, players remember that, and they tried to
reward you. Because Mike Shanahan usedto do that all the time, and
(08:13):
there were certain media members during mytime as a player that did not like
that, didn't think that that wassomething great to do. Like Vic Fangio
has someone like a field day andit was just like, why is he
doing a field day? They needall the work that they can get.
If you feel as though your playershave done everything that you ask them,
(08:35):
there's no reasons not to reward themfor their art of work they put in.
And I think it. I thinkit builds a sense of a spree
of core if you're if you're ableto blow off some steam together and you
know, like the Vic Fangil ofthe dunk tank, you know like that,
Yeah, you know how many peopleare lined up for that? That's
probably the longest line. They hada whole bat, empty basketball and a
line of fifty people waiting to tryto dunk Fangio in the dunk tank.
(08:58):
Exactly that kind of stuff. Ithink that stuff goes over well. And
not all things that seem like theyare games are necessarily just games. Like
it can be a team building exercise, like it can be eye opening to
see, oh hey, boys goto basketball, dude. You know,
like there are things a lot ofplaying this game is about investing in each
(09:20):
other, whether it's a top downinvestment as an organization investing in a player,
whether it's a whether it's a playerinvesting in a coach, whether it's
players investing in each other. AndI think that in the grind of practice
and all that kind of stuff,we sort of lose sight of the fact
that that there is an element ofthat too. We lose, thanks to
a lot of the coverage out therethese days, and anybody can cover anything
(09:41):
anymore, we lose a lot ofthe humanity of this. And I believe
that having those days off. Ibelieve that having team building exercises, I
believe that having fielders, I believethose things inherently provide value. I know
how some may look at and say, okay, well, these couple of
coaches who were coach for the Broncosdid these types of things in the offseason
(10:03):
with hopes that it would catapult theteam moving forward and build a lot of
that cohesiveness. And let's just sayit didn't during that season. That doesn't
necessarily mean that you don't try differentthings. When I played for coach Shanahan
and and coaches, you think bothcoaches and players are very superstitious when it
(10:24):
comes to certain things, and ifwe're not having a great couple of games
far as outcome and weekly preparation, sometimes he would change the practice time hoping
to tweak or the practice tweaking thetime of practice. It actually changed the
mindset of players. I know it'skind of a subtle thing, but in
(10:46):
my cases of being around coach Shanahanand playing here for the Denver Broncos,
it ended up being much larger thanwhat you previously thought because it is one
of those things where you look atyour coach and say, well, why
am I playing for this coach andthis organized Is it only because they're paying
me giving me a paycheck? No, it's something about that coach you have
to fall in love with. Yousay, I love this coach because of
(11:09):
this, And you know, saywhat you want about Bill Parcells. He
was tough as nails. But forme, I love him because he was
tough on me. That's what broughtout the player. I became great diamonds
under pressure. You have to.And I think it's interesting because you know,
you talk about the way, thereverential way that you talk about Bill
Parcells, and a lot of theguys who played for Parcels talk that same
(11:33):
way, and he was me.He was ornery. He was he was.
I mean, I mean like I'veseen you know, I've talked to
people like he. He was ordering, he was, you know, I
mean he was. He was thesouth end of a northbound horse quite a
lot. And he was in charge. You knew who was in charge at
all the times, and it wasBill Parcells. He was. But there
(11:54):
is a large contingent of players thatplayed for him that acknowledge all those things
and still say it was the bestthing that ever happened because he brought out
the best in me. Yeah, that's what you want out of your coaches,
and it's the same thing you kindof do as a parent, right
You want to be disciplined, youwant to hold your kids accountable, but
at the end of the day,you have their best interests in mind,
(12:16):
even if they don't think that youdo, because they may feel as though
you're being too hard on them andnothing they do is perfect enough for you.
It's because you realize that there's moreto your kid that your player that
they are exhibiting at that particular moment. Can you push through that threshold?
Can you push through pain? Canyou push through someone leaning on you,
(12:39):
and to me, life is reallytough. There's a lot of adversity,
But can you push through those toughsituations? Yeah? Five six six down
zeros text line. By the way, one of the texture says, I
wish we had a system of lootiesand tunies. I'd put twenty thousand a
year away and never spend coin. You can never put some the cords.
I'm like, just do that anyway, Yes, right, just do it
anyway. I think that my andI'm trying to think of the right way
(13:05):
to phrase this because there are alot of people that think I hate Sean
Payton, which is not even remotelythe game. I had an aversion to
bringing him here. I did,and there were several reasons for that.
I know people that have worked beforehim, and so I did. I
had an initial aversion to him comingto Denver. But once he got hired,
like that's out of the way.Like, once he got hired,
he's the guy. Then you getbehind it and you just go. I
(13:26):
will tell you in that locker room. The the atmosphere now from players that
I talk to is a lot differentthan it's been over the last couple of
years. Players are a little bitmore loose. They believe that they can
do more, go further than theyhave before. I will say that multiple
times players have intimated that, yeah, he's you know, he can be
insufferably arrogant, he can be youknow whatever, but he's a good teacher
(13:50):
and he teaches in I learn things. Every time I talked to coaching.
To me, I'm like, okay, well, if that's the case,
we're probably gonna have a pretty goodfootball team because it sounds like you get
guys are investing in a guy, even if he is abrasive or whatever.
You've got guys that are investing inthat. And we've seen some of that
play out sort of already and we'llsee if this year they're able to take
the next step. Well, atsome point you have to remove the guard
(14:11):
rail, right, and sometimes inremoving the guard rails, that may be
moving on from certain veteran players whomay have established a certain type of culture.
And if you want to come inand you want to change the culture,
you're going to have to re establishthat. And you're doing that with
younger guys, and you're probably whenyou watch practice, you see guys being
(14:33):
more vocal than they were before, because these are a lot of guys who
were they just say they were thebackup dancers, right, and someone else
was the lead singer. Now they'vemoved away from the lead singer. Now
the backup dancers. Not to bedisrespectful, but just kind of give paint
the picture. But now those guyscan move to the front. Now,
now they can be the lead singers. Now those are guys who are setting
(14:56):
the tone for this Broncos team movingforward. Right. Sometimes as a coach,
you have to know how to diginto your players and motivate them.
And and this is what you knowpart sales teld me like every player is
motivated, motivated by something different. You need to find out what that is
and turn out like a screw likesome guys it's money, right, and
you just kind of either you threatenthem with money, taking money away from
(15:18):
giving them money or other guys isjust the fact of going from an unknown
to a household name. Just thosesubtle things could be motivated. And this
is where your job as a headcoach, where you where you get your
and your big dollars, because nowyou have to figure that out and then
you have to turn those screws.Well, we're going to turn the screws
on an NFL six pack when wecome back. Right for this if Broncos,
(15:46):
let's go on the official home ofthe Broncos. All right, all
night KOA, all back to itBroncos Country tonight, all right, Ferguson,
Jenn Scott back there behind the glass. We did get a text in
here from the nine cented I askinghe's gonna be in Denver tomorrow night.
(16:07):
He's bringing the wife, wants totake our to dinner, has the reservations
already at you and I favorite steakhouse, but was asking for the suggestions on
where to go. I don't knowif you got my text back because the
text line was being weird. ButAlma Fonda Fina is a favorite of mine
if you like Mexican food. Soif you get a chance, Alma Fonda
(16:29):
Fina, that's a l M Af O N D A f I n
A. If you get a chance, that's that's a pretty good restaurant.
If you want to try something differentthan a steakhouse, take the old lady
up. There you go. I'mchuck full of suggestions tonight with that time
for the NFL six path. I'mgoing insight and insight information you can't find
anywhere else. No. The Topsix NFL headline was the Jets have leaked
(16:56):
an unconvincing explanation for Aaron rodgers mandatoryMini camp absence. Most teams have one
or more reporters to whom they willleak self serving explanations. I myself have
at times been the recipient of those. For the Jets, one of those
reporters seems to be Connor Hughes ofsn Y. Hughes pushed the team's narrative
(17:17):
about Colleen Woolf after the was reported, suggested whatever that someone witnessed an awkward
and heated exchange between Jets owner WoodyJohnson and coach Robert Salad at the league
meetings back in March. He wasinjected the notion that the Jets had an
understanding with defensive end Hassan Reddick beforetrading for him, and thought Reddick was
on board with it. He hasobviously been holding out and as Hughes,
(17:37):
who provided a detailed explanation for theAaron Rodgers absence for mandatory Mini camp with
they basically nothing to see here sortof post on Twitter this morning, saying
Aaron Rodgers planned a trip when hewas still rehabbing. Jets have known about
it for the moment that there wasoverlap with the release of the mini camp
schedule. Rogers is quote unexcused becausehe can't excuse a trip, but not
(17:59):
a cop track dispute like they havewith Hassan Redick, which is semantics.
But there's no unrest inside the building. The Jets don't think it's a big
deal. Not sure why the worldis reacting differently. Rogers missing these two
days after being at every voluntary workoutthe last two years, we'll have zero
impact on what the Jets and Rogersplanning to accomplish this coming season. Jets
might think that makes things better, but so far this appears to be spoon
fed pr Why didn't they do mandatorymini camp last week? They could have
(18:25):
worked around it. They could havechanged it wasn't set by the league.
Players from other teams are routinely excusedall the time. Three players pack Packers
players were excused this week, Seahawksexcuse their punter and getting married. Several
Jaguars excused, The Steelers excuse runningback now Jay Harris. This particular situation.
I mean, Rogers brought it onhimself because he's the one that's consistently
(18:45):
sitting there saying no more distractions, nothing else at all. These to be
football, everybody's got to be herefor everything. Am I wrong in this?
No, you're not wrong in this, But this is kind of the
offseason and there are different rooms fordifferent players because ideas we're gonna treat you
fair but not equal. And consideringthe fact that he is a Super Bowl
(19:07):
winning quarterback and the MVP in AaronRodgers, that's not something that you have
to worry about with Aaron. Listen, it's great to have every player there
so you can check the box andsay, hey, listen, we had
one to percent at OTA's and ourmini camps. But I don't think Aaron
Rodgers missing these last two days, and if the story is correct that he
(19:30):
had already had this plan, theyknew about this in advance. It's just
another talking point for everyone to discussin New York so they can say,
well, you know what, guesswhat now you're getting to Aaron Rodgers that
Green Bay had to deal with,And I don't think those two actually kind
of makes sense. Two, themove below the Carolina Panthers em betting odds
(19:53):
for lowest projected win total. Patriotsare projected to have the worst record in
the NFL in twenty twenty four.If the odds makers are to believed at
multiple sports books, the Patriots nowhave the lowest win total on the board
and an over under a four anda half wins this season. The Panthers
had previously had the lowest total, have moved to five and a half and
(20:15):
at five and a half are tiedwith the Denver Broncos for the second lowest
win total projection. How do wefeel about the Patriots being forecast as the
worst team in the NFL. Wefeel that the Broncos being forecast of the
second worst. Well, it comeswith the territory based on how both teams
finish when within their respective divisions. And they both the Broncos and the Patriots
(20:40):
have rookie quarterbacks. And obviously you'rethinking Drake May is going to start there
with the Patriots. And we don'tknow, but most likely both knicks can
be the starter here, maybe notin week one, but maybe week two
or three. But this is whythe projections are what they are. You
look at what happened last year?Who you laws, who you're bringing in,
who's at the quarterback position. Ifeither of these team had veteran quarterbacks
(21:04):
with decent records, they would notbe at the bottom. But this is
just par for the course being inNFL. Team have a wreaking quarterback with
the Panthers, you know what youhave because it's probably sholling. Now you
get a new coach in Canalis andall that kind of stuff. But you're
saying with the Broncos of the Patriots, it's the unknown of the Drake May
and the boat. Yeah, youdon't know. You're hoping for the best,
that things will be a whole lotbetter than they was before. And
(21:26):
I said it to you last weekthat the Broncos players should think about it
this way. That listen. Ifif we play well known as own people
not thinking about it that way,we're going to surprise so many people.
Three Kevin O'Connell says, Sam Darnaldis the number one quarterback heading into camp.
Sam Donald set to be the firstquarterback up when the Vikings get to
training camp this summer. He wasasked about the quarterbacks pecking order at the
(21:48):
press conference today from the team's mandatorymini camp, and he said there's not
a hard and fast depth charty inplace right now, but he did say
put Donald at number one and JJMcCarthy, the rookie they just drafted,
at number two. Same quote.I would say Sam would be our guy
I would look to based on thespring he's had and really where he's at
in his career and his quarterback journey. I cans obviously have not practiced him
(22:10):
pads and they haven't faced any defensjust trying to knock him off the game.
So there's a lot of steps beforethey travel to New Jersey to face
the Giants first Sunday of the regularseason, and that leaves plenty room for
McCarthy to show that his mix ofskills make him the better choice to lead
the Vikings than Donald. But asof right now, isn't it that time
of the year where the veteran isjust going to be the guy at the
top of the depth chart. Absolutely, But here's where things are a little
(22:33):
different. Before McCarthy and Sam Donald. Obviously Sam Donald had some experience in
this league, but also he playedin San Francisco, and when you look
at the type of system that KyleShanahan runs. It's kind of similar to
what O'Connor learned under Sean McVay.So having a guy coming out of a
(22:56):
system with Shanahan, now you canbe the guy the lead the team for
now. That's kind of the wholething where you've kind of put things in
Pilson and see what happens for well. Seancan's not the only one canceling final
mini camp practice. Mike McDonald roadlike the wind to get out of that.
For the Seahawks. Has been along off season for every team.
(23:17):
Moster are now done. The Seahawks, like the Broncos, are done a
day early, ending things after Wednesday'spractice by canceling Thursday's schedule mini camp session.
Seattle is now on a six weekbreak, getting an extra day of
vacation as a reward from coach MikeMcDonald for the hard work, saying he
couldn't be happier with the effort.Via Corbyn Smith, the Seahawks canceled their
final ota last week to attend ateam event. They visited joint based Lewis
(23:41):
McCord, which is a major Armyinstallation located near Lakewood, Washington. I
was stationed there for three months atone point. The Seahawks are doing this,
we see people melting. It's avery small subset of people, but
we do see people melting down herethat Denver canceled it. I haven't seen
anybody melting down that Seattle canceled theirfinal OTA. No, for me,
it's not as big of a dealas some would love to make it out
(24:03):
to be. Because the idea is, if you felt as though you got
the work that you wanted to getout from your position groups and your OTA's
and your mini camps, why dothat extra day? And then also,
I mean, give the guys theday off or take them bowling. I've
done that with coaches before. Butthis is a rewards system, is it
not. You know, listen, once you get into that seasonal grind,
(24:26):
man, it is going to bethe grind until the season is over.
So allow coaches allow players to kindof get this all important time with their
family, because once we kick itoff, I mean we're in it to
the bitter D five Jaydan Daniels seemsto have the right attitude, says,
I ain't a star yet. Igot a long way to go. Matters
(24:48):
wide, receiver. Terry McLaurin hadplenty of good things to say about first
round pick Jayden Daniels to the teamsmandatory mini camp this week, including ethinks
Daniels has shown a high level ofself awareness for a rookie quarterback. Daniels
he is still a rookie though, and that means he's far from a finished
product. Daniels, via John Kymeof ESPN, said, I ain't a
star quarterback yet. I got along way to go. I'm a rookie.
(25:10):
So he's just trying to soak upas much knowledge as possible as yorks
his way toward reaching that level thatmclaurain and others of the commanders has said
they expect him to reach. Thatshould surf him well over the next few
months. So he has a lotto prove before anybody crowning him an NFL
star. Daniels, of course, was the second overall pick behind Caleb Williams.
What do we think of Jade Daniels. Seems like he's got the right
(25:30):
attitude so far. Yeah, thisis the attitude that we heard so much
about was pushed Jayden Daniels to thetop of the draft board and all you
have to do is just kind oflook at his transition going from the PAC
twelve to the SEC and his growthand his maturity. So yeah, I
mean, I love to see whathe's doing on the field, and I
know Adam Peers is definitely excited withboth his passing ability and his mobility sick.
(25:56):
Lamar Jackson is declining to comment onthe lost seven hundred and fifty thousand
dollars workout bonus. Ravens quarterback LamarJackson's contract included a fully guaranteed workout bonus
of seven hundred and fifty thousand dollarsand twenty twenty four. He was required
to earn it by showing up forat least eighty percent of volunteer offseason workouts.
(26:18):
He didn't speaking reporters at today's mandatorymini camp. He declined to address
the loss of the seven hundred andfifty thousand dollars same quote, I never
discussed my contract up here. I'mnot about to start today focusing on getting
better and focusing on tomorrow. Jacksonseparately addressed whether he'll be working out with
teammates during the break between the offseason program and that started training camp.
(26:40):
He said I would love to dothat, but some guys don't want to
leave their state. They're going tohave to come to South Florida. They're
going to have to do it.We have to We're trying to get to
the super Bowl. For us todo that, we have to grind.
We have to build chemistry. Andthat's what the off season program is for
the one that would have paid Jacksonseven hundred and fifty thousand if he showed
up for eighty percent of it.And I believe there's a little bit of
irony if he's saying dudes don't wantto leave their state while saying they don't,
(27:03):
you know, come to my stateto come work out. Are you
at all puzzled by this? Thisis this is a head scratcher to me.
I mean, everybody loves to watchLamar on the field, but this
is a bit of a head scratch. He just gave away shot on hundred
fifty thousand dollars by not showing up, and now he's insisting that his teammates
have to come to his home totrain this offseason. Or usually that's what
happens. The wide receivers, tightends and skilled players typically go to the
(27:25):
destination wherever the quarterback has decided here'swhere we're going to go, and usually
it's in the place that's really comfortablefor the quarterback. Now, as far
as the seventy seven hundred and fiftythousand dollars, yeah, you would like
to have banked that money, buthey, it was on it was contractually
based on you showing up to acertain amount of OTA practices. Lamar Jackson
(27:48):
isn't hurting for money, so youcan't miss something that you never had.
I mean, you can have itin addition too. But this is one
of those situations where I look atit, Ben and I said, well,
it's it's kind of a nothing tomean situation. But I can understand
how people look at and say,Okay, well, how could you want
your teammates to pretty much cater toyou? You should be willing to cater
(28:10):
to them, and how could youleave money on the table? Right,
And Lamar's just off NFL money.Has made one hundred and twelve million,
one hundred twelve point seven million,a lot of money just in NFL money
that doesn't include endorsements or you know, any of that kind of stuff thus
far. And he's obviously self wrappedso he doesn't have to give out three
percent of his contract to an agent. But I mean to seven hundred fifty
(28:32):
thousand dollars are still seven hundred fiftythousand dollars. You know, millionaires don't
be gobn to get to become millionairesby giving away millions, right it is.
But once again, it's like somethingthat you don't have. You have
it as far as on the pieceof a paper, as far as contractually,
but you don't see it until youcomplete this part of me. You
say, you know what, all, I'm going to take these couple of
(28:55):
days off of coming to OTA's inmini camp, and I'll be okay with
it. I'm not going to missthat money. I would just show up.
I'm just I'm wired a little different. I guess see, see when
see I was okay. So Iwas talking about that. I was telling
the story earlier because I was onwith KWI Sports at the end and Al
and Ryan were there and they playedMark Morrison's Return of the Macus as We're
(29:15):
Coming Back, which has been oneof my theme songs over the years,
and I was telling the story abouthow Mark Morrison Morrison, the singer and
writer that song was he had gotin trouble with the law and he had
to do new service, and sohe paid a guy to go dress and
look like him to go do hiscommunity service, and he got caught doing
that, and a matter of howto go to dude. If I'm Lamar
(29:36):
Jackson, man, I mean,at this point, pay us up double?
What are you doing? Oh man, listen, I know how crazy
it sounds, as though he's givingup seven hundred and fifty thousand dollars,
but he's looking at it possibly asHey, I don't really have that money.
It's on the contract, it's tiedto it, and everyone as they
(29:56):
give they give my salary total theyadded in, but no, I'd rather
take these days off. And forwhatever reason he did or why he took
him off, they were worth sevenhundred and fifty thousand dollars, I mean,
And that's the way you have tolook at it. Whatever it was
he was doing was worth seven hundredfifty thousand dollars, because that represents twenty
percent of his rookie salary his firstyear in the league. That represents one
(30:18):
fifth of the money that he made. And at this point, I guess
it's just not a big deal anymorebecause, like I said, his career
earnings now to this point are heartand twelve point seven million dollars. So
the only thing that you can say, if you are a family member or
your teammate, man, what didyou do and was it worth it?
Yeah? I mean at the endof the day, and it has to
be because I mean when you lookat it, like and I get it,
(30:42):
there are some things that are notworth my time. Like I've told
that people before. You know, somebody's like, hey, i'll pay you
this to come do this. I'mlike, man, I'm not getting a
bed for that. I'm sorry. There are some things that are worth that,
and I get that on a microscale, but it just seems like
a lot of money. Like whywould you negotiat for that just to have
it in your contract just to sayI feel like showing up. Well,
(31:03):
yes, just just in case youfeel like showing up. And also we
know how this works. The wholeidea is to say that, listen,
my contract is worth more for morethan yours on paper as far as what
I'm getting on a seasonal basis,And after that, it's kind of you
know, water under the bridge.Yeah, I just I don't know.
(31:25):
I'm one of those people is weirdabout throwing away money, you know,
and especially like three quarters of amillion dollars. Like I said, there's
people people out there trying to makeends meet right now. And you're like,
you know what, okay, butokay, so I'm too good for
those individuals who have not will neversee that amount of money in their lives.
There are people that won't see thatamount in their lifetime. Yes,
(31:45):
so they are upset because how canyou do that? But for a person
who is in the top one percentand being paid, you know, top
dollar at his position, then he'slike, yeah, okay, I mean
listen, I gave him fifty thousanddollars to go back to Georgia Tech to
finish my degree. Some of myteammates said, you're the smartest dumb guy.
(32:07):
We know it work bonuses. Yeah, it was a workout bonus.
But I said that my degree andgetting that for my family that a little
bit different than lounging by the pool. Well, yes, and it's it's
I mean it's not as much asyou know, seven hundred fifty thousand dollars,
but dollars is still a new car. Yes, it's still. It's
(32:30):
still and I was willing to givethat up. So whatever Lamar did,
he was willing to sacrifice that, and hopefully he enjoyed every moment of it.
I hope so, too. BroughtGhost Country to Night rolls On after this
