(00:00):
Welcome to it, Broncos Country.Tonight's short show post Rockies edition been all
bright here with you. Take meon into the weekend. I got to
the latest news and notes to getto around the league. Five six six
nine zero. You guys want toget involved in the conversation. I have
some hilarious news for Broadcos fans.We we could be mad that the Kansas
(00:29):
City Chiefs have have won a coupleof super Bowls, and you know,
and obviously that that sucks because wewant to be the ones winning super Bowls.
But we can take solace in thefact that they went out and their
new super Bowl ring has typographical errors. Oh my goodness, Josh Brisco of
(00:51):
Arrowhead Report, and as everybody hasnow confirmed with their own eyes on the
graphic post on the team's official website, there is a stake on the super
Bowl ring, which you know, the ring has twenty eight diamonds, which
is supposed to symbolize a defense thatheld every upon hunder twenty eight points.
It's got the team motto, youknow underneath it where you slide your ring.
(01:12):
It's got the team motto. It'sgot the playoff scores. Each player's
unique signature, you know, allthe kind of cool stuff that you would
do in there, and then it'sgot the scores of the teams they defeated
and the seed they were, exceptthere's an error. Each one of these
rings list of the Miami Dolphins isthe number seven seed when they were actually
(01:34):
the number six seed. The Steelerswere the seventh seed, if you'll remember
correctly, and they faced the secondseeded Bills in Buffalo in the opening round
of the playoffs. So the typomight just be in the graphic. We
haven't actually confirmed that this is inthe ring, but if it's in the
rings, this is absolutely hilarious forsome ridiculously expensive rings that the Kansas City
(01:55):
Chiefs are going to have to remedy. And so I thought that that was
just absolutely I could not stop laughingat that one. I figured most of
you would appreciate that that, youknow, the kids to say, even
if they won the they're still takinga still taking ls, not proofreading all
the stuff that's supposed to go ontheir supposed to go on their rings.
(02:17):
So anyway, I did get aquestion about Janet Jackson tickets. We don't
have any more to give away.Sorry, we gave last pair away last
night, so I apologize if youwere, if you were listening for those,
I don't don't have any more ofthose to give away. I don't
know if you guys saw this, but Larry Zonka posted a video to Twitter
(02:39):
and acknowledged that he got a littlehot out of the collar. Obviously,
the Zaka member of the seventy twoDolphins, which occupy a unique place in
NFL history, the only team everto go through a full season undefeated and
untied and win it all. TheNFL's played fifty two seasons before those nineteen
(02:59):
seventy two Dolphins know whether the teamdid it. In twenty twenty four,
the NFL play it's fifty second seasonsince the seventy two Dolphins, and obviously
no other team has done it.And Larry Zanka was sort of asked about
the nineteen seventy two Dolphins being namedthe greatest team ever, and he feels
like that that should end any debateor discussion about that. Someone asked him
(03:25):
and he said named the greatest team. He's like, we took the bleeping
thing. That's how it happened.I'm tired of people telling me how they
named us, we named us,we took it. He posted the video
and social acknowledged again that he gota little lost as cool, but then
he said, I stand by mypoint. We achieved perfection and are the
only team to do so in thefirste hundred plus years of professional football.
(03:47):
The members of the seventy two Dolphinsobviously are never shy about reminding any of
us that they're the greatest and breakingout the champagne every time the last undefeated
team falls every year. So untilsomebody else matches the perfect seat, SI,
they' gonna have plenty to u todo. The Patriots obviously came close
but did not win the Super Bowl, and that, uh, you know,
it is a large portion of Ithink, you know, obviously being
(04:09):
perfect throughout it all. So I, you know, I I think he
has a right to be a littleI think Larry Zakas has earned the right
to be a little snippy with that. It seems a bit pedanic, you
know, I mean, like, why are you, you know, upset
when somebody just asked you, Hey, how does it feel to be named
the greatest team of all time? And he's like, we were the greatest?
(04:30):
That we we did that, wedidn't get named it. We weren't
like that seems a bit bananic,But at the end of the day,
I guess, you know, he'ssort of earned the right to to be
that. It's Acca's something like seventyseven years old now, and you know,
I I sort of sort of getit. I mean, I sort
of get the idea that you would, you know, hold that accomplishment which
no one else has ever done, you know, in that kind of pirategard.
(04:54):
So you know, I don't thinkI don't think I'm mad at it.
Some people saying, you know,Larry needs to knock it off,
and you know, and all thatkind of stuff. And so anyway,
by the way, somebody sent mea link. Apparently Pro Football Talk confirmed
that the typo by the way,on the Super Bowl rings is on at
(05:15):
least one of the actual physical rings, which likely means it's on all of
them. That the Dolphins are listedas the number seven seed when actually they
were number six. So I wonderif I wonder if anything even can be
done to rectify that. I wonderhow many people will care, Like I
don't know if the Chiefs, youknow, chiefs will care, chiefs fans
will care, I mean, therest of us will just know that,
(05:36):
you know, attention to detail andall that stuff. But I don't know.
I just find it funny. It'ssomething that I found funny and I
find humorous. And maybe I'm theweird one on that. Who knows?
Five six six nine zero is thetext line. The NFL is not releasing
(05:58):
the comments from coach James Franklin, which sparked the NFL's investigation as to whether
the eagles had tampered with former Giantsrunning back Saquon Barkley by blurting out that
general manager Howie Roseman's pitch to SaquonBarkley included pointing out the number of Penn
State fans who are also Eagles fans. It was enough to get Franklin interviewed
(06:19):
by the league. But not goingto comment on coach Franklin as the official
comment, you know from the league. Franklin previously said regarding his conversation with
Barkley quote he said that it wasone of the first things how he had
said to him on the phone, part of the sales pitch not only the
Philadelphia Eagles and then the connects withPenn State the fan base as well,
(06:42):
so it's really cool opportunity. Obviously, market played ball at Penn State.
Franklin said what he said on Tuesday, March twelfth, which was smack in
the middle of the fifty two hournegotiation window during which there can be no
contact between a team and a player. So the Eagles weren't punished for tampering.
Doesn't necessarily mean that they got thetoothpaste back in the tube. But
(07:04):
you know, the league did slapthe Falcons on the wrist for tampering with
three different players. And I thinkthere's still something coming for the Bears,
who have for the last few yearsbeen the first team to sign and complete
deals at the open of the legaltampering period within minutes both years, definitely
flaunting the fact that they have beenout there, you know, doing that.
(07:29):
So we'll see, we'll see howthat goes. Trevor Lawrence of course
signed his deal. I'll get intothe numbers on that in a minute.
I want to talk about the Chargerswho signed Nigerian Scottish sprinter praise Ola Tooke
to play wide receiver. He wasborn in Nigeria, raised in Scotland,
(07:53):
ran track at Ohio State, wasan All big ten sprinter for the Buckeyes
and Jim Harball apparently not shying awayfrom signing Ohio State alums, signing to
play wide receiver, the team announcedtoday. Olotoka is part of the NFL's
International Pathway Program, which gives internationalathletes a chance to learn American football,
(08:13):
attempt to make a roster and notcount toward the ninety player roster in training
camp. If he makes the practicesquad, he won't count toward the practice
squad limit either. Broncos obviously,I've had a player do that as well
last year, year before last.I can't remember off the top of my
head that they kept around through thatInternational Pathway program. Olatoka's six foot two
(08:33):
twoh five and runs the one hundredmeter dash in ten point two seven seconds.
His only American football experiences, youknow, it's at the club level,
but he is the talent to apparentlybe a receiver, and the Charger
is going to give him a chanceto to kind of prove it. That
goes along with the wrestler that wassigned, you know, not too long
(08:54):
ago. They needed the league's youknow, really out there looking to find
whatever it can in you know,in alternate pathways. We've obviously seen basketball
players make the jump before, buthaving wrestlers and sprinters is certainly interesting.
I remember a few years back, the Detroit Lions made an offer to you,
Saint Bolt. Even if I didn'tend up amounting to anything or working
(09:15):
out or you know, being athing he wanted to pursue, but the
Lions at least explored that back inthe day put a little speed on the
field. So something new to keepyour eye on. Maybe this guy can
can make it. Certainly something thatthat we'll be watching the Trevor Lawrence contract.
I'll get to One of the otherthings that came out today, was
(09:35):
it come out today last night?I don't remember which when it came out,
but this story about Javad Holland, who plays college ball at Oregon was
eventually drafted by the Miami Dolphins. His father, Robert, did an appearance
(09:56):
on the Dolphins Talk dot Com potcast and said that in the run up
to the draft that Javon had sortof this Colin Kaepernick tag prior to the
draft, and it prompted one specificcoach to ask a question to which the
Hollands took exception and I'll let youguess for a second which coach that is
(10:18):
or was at the time, becauseit will not surprise any of you.
During an offseason which featured plenty ofzoom calls during the pandemic, the Raiders
had called Javon Holland every day fora week, and Robert Holland said,
one of the last calls or thelast call, John Grudiness, Javon quote,
(10:41):
Hey, are you going to changeyour name to Malcolm X when you
get in the league. Robert thenjumped up, and Javon put his hand
up and said, no, Igot this, Dad. Listen. I
use my platform to speak for thosewho can't speak, and I'm only speaking
for good. And if I'm notthe kind of guy who you perceive is
speaking for good or doing something wrong, maybe I shouldn't be part of your
(11:03):
organization. And then Gruden hung up. The Raiders wound up taking Alex Leatherwood
with the seventeenth pick in the draft. Holland, of course, went on
to be drafted number thirty six overallby the Miami Dolphins after the Broncos traded
up and took Gavonte Williams. Laterthat year, Gruden found himself obviously out
(11:24):
of a job when emails sent duringhis time with ESPN to then Washington executive
Bruce Allen were leaked on multiple publications. I mean, this doesn't surprise me,
you know, And I don't know. Uh. When I was reading
this, like before I even gotto the part where they had tell you
(11:46):
what coach it was, I waslike, I already know who this is
gonna be. I know, what'swhat's about the what I'm about to read
here? And sure enough, youknow, Holland's was, you know,
an active voice for changing good hiscommunity back can you know in college?
And I don't know. I guess, I guess coach Gruden had a problem
with that. Didn't want players beingout like that, all that kind of
(12:07):
stuff. I don't know, butit's you know, it's it's just,
uh, it's just a weird sortof thing that I like, why would
you why would you ask them? Why would you do that? You know?
And and it it's it makes theRaiders look bad, it makes you
look bad. It doesn't never makeit never makes the player look bad.
When's the last time one of thesequestions were leaked that you thought you were
(12:28):
going to rattle somebody with it madethe player look bad. Remember when they
asked, does Brian if his momwas a prostitute doesn't make it doesn't make
does Bryant look bad? It makesyou look bad? And so these these
combine questions are I don't know,a bit ridiculous. It's just this whole
whole thing just seems it just seemeda bit odd. Uh. And it
(12:48):
was one of those things as Iwas reading, It's like, oh,
oh my goodness, this is ofcourse absurd. Uh. The Jaguars,
Trevor Lawrence of course signed his contract. Yes, we talked about Kalais Campbell
signed with the Miami Dolphins. Butthe Trebid Lords contract is interesting because you
know, you always see the averagevalue or the yearly value exceeding the guy
(13:09):
before. But is it really thatkind of contract? And I had been
told about an hour before that contractgot announced that it was coming and that
it was chock full of fundy money. And when I look at it and
it really is. I mean, there's a signing bonus of thirty seven and
a half million, The twenty twentyfour base salary is nothing. It's still
the one point five you know, fully guaranteed and then the twenty twenty five
(13:30):
season, there's a thirty five milliondollar fully guaranteed option bonus based outary at
two million, workout bonus five hundredthousand, you know, and all that
kind of stuff. The thing aboutthis is the deal includes about a million
and a half in centas from twentytwenty six to twenty thirty. He gets
five hundred thousand if he takes sixtypercent of the snaps. If the Jaguars
(13:52):
win the SC Championship, he getsa million. If they win the Super
Bowl, there's a total of sixmillion in incentive, but they'd have to
win four straight Super Bowls, whichyou know, seems unlikely. The contract
does include a no trade clause thatcan become nullified if he holds out or
is suspended by the team, orcommits a forfeitable breach of contract. But
(14:16):
the way that this contract is structuredlooks like it's a two to three year
deal with with funny money back years. You know, Lawrence in his first
year only has like eighty two pointsix million. I think this year where
Burrow got like one to eleven andHerbert got one hundred. But then through
(14:37):
two years Lawrence gets it goes upto one twenty four point five million,
which catches justin Herber remains well behindJoe Burrow, and then the third years
it's one hundred and seventy million, which is where all the guarantees have come
from. So this deal, whileit's being paraded as a five year,
fifty five million dollars per year deal, is really not. It's really a
(15:03):
three year deal in one hundred andseventy million, and the rest of it
is team options that are probably unlikelyto be earned that that the contract either
at that point in time would berenegotiated because there's no incentive for Lawrence to
(15:24):
play on it at that point. So it's it's an odd contract to me,
and it kind of feels like thatthe Jags sort of said, Hey,
we're committing to you, but onlycommitting to you for now at market
rate. We're not really committing longterm to you, even though this was
billed as a sort of long termdeal. Definitely doesn't touch the Borough or
(15:45):
the Herbert numbers, even though hesigned afterwards. And it sort of gives
you an insight as to what theprobable structure of a toa talk about Lloyd
deal will be. I don't thinkDak Prescott under this. I think Dak
exceeds this, but Tua could fallunder this. And so it's gonna be
fascinating to sort of see what Miamidoes and what if Dallas does anything.
(16:08):
I just I can't see a scenarioon which Dallas uh keeps Dak Prescott.
So I don't think that's going tobe, you know, I don't think
that'll be the way that that goes. But you know, we'll see,
you know, we'll sort of we'llsort of see and and go from there.
Broncos news, I think everybody knowsthey weave to Dylan Leonard the injury
(16:30):
settlement. That was the only realbig news that came out, and that
was the offsetting move to bring inlinebacker Andre Smith, the special team's ace
and former Falcon. Dylan Leonard wasthe undrafted rookie tight end. He's getting
twenty seven hundred of his contract guaranteedand a five that you got a five
(16:51):
thousand dollars signing bonus, and thenthere's some you know, some injury stuff.
You know. On top of thatwas the Georgia Tech tight end,
mostly a run block or he onlycaught fourteen passes FO one hundred and fifty
six yards of one touchdown Georgia Techlast year, five year career, forty
one receptions, three eighty seven ina touchdown didn't really factor in terms of
probably going to make you know theroster anyway, So not really not a
(17:17):
tremendous loss win. All said anddone. Bronco's Country Tonight will be back
after this. Welcome back to it, Broncos Country Tonight. We've got a
short show edition here obviously post Rockiestaking you into the weekend. Appreciate you
guys sticking around five six, sixnine zero. He is the text line.
We got something unique sort of happeningright now. Could be the third
(17:41):
time in history that we would seea double sweep NBA Finals Stanley Cup Final.
The Celtics are going for the sweepright now and in Dallas the Panthers
will do the same Tomorrow night inEdmonton the Oilers four to three or Thursday
(18:02):
behind conn smyth favorite Saragai Bobrovski, who has stopped eighty two of eighty six
shots in the series. The historyof the double sweep, there have been
twenty Stanley Cup Final sweeps. TenNBA final sweeps, so only twice have
they happened in the same year.In nineteen eighty three, the seventy six
Ers swept the Lakers and the Islandersswept the Oilers, and then again in
(18:25):
nineteen ninety five, the Houston Rocketsswept the Magic and the New Jersey Devils
swept the Red Wings. Both seriesstarting out three to zero is pretty rare
in its own right. The lasttime that happened was nineteen ninety six,
actually, when the Avs blitz thePad Thursday in route to a sweep and
the Bulls won three straight against theSonics before eventually winning in six. While
(18:51):
the MAVs and Oilers still believe obviouslythey can win a championship even though they're
down three oer, history isn't reallyon their side. No NBA team has
ever overcome a three to zero deficitoh and one hundred and fifty six all
time oh and fourteen in the NBAfinals, and it's only happened four times
in the NHL, with only oneoccurrence in the Stanley Cup Finals. That
(19:11):
would be the Toronto Maple Leafs overthe Red Wings back in nineteen forty two.
All the way back in nineteen fortytwo, so it's been obviously a
little while with that. Condor McGregoris withdrawing from the UFC three ZHO three
main event versus Michael Chandler due toan injury. Dana White announced that McGregor's
(19:37):
nearly three year layoff from the UFCis obviously going to become even longer,
as the irishman withdrew from his UFCthree oh three fight against Michael Chandler.
Yesterday. Dana White announced McGregor's exit, only saying the irishman had sustained an
injury. The main event was setto take place June twenty ninth and will
be replaced by a light heavy weighttitle rematch between Alex Pieria and uh Jeri
(20:04):
Pechaska. Ber Aria previously defeated Petaskawith a was a second round t KO
last November uh and that he pickedup the UH picked up the belt at
USC two ninety five. That beltis chronically vacant, so you know,
(20:27):
kind of interesting. A co madeevent between the former light heavyweight champ Jamal
Hill and Carlos Ulberg is also beingreplaced by a bout between Brian Ortega and
Diego Lopez due to injury to HillOlberg will face Anthony Smith instead. Rough
Day overall for the UFC is thefight night schedule for the week before three.
ZHO three also saw its main eventbetween Kamzat Kaimev and Robert Whittaker get
(20:53):
derailed due to medical issue with withkaimv Uh. The UFC announced on Thursday
that Wittaker will instead face Ikram outof scare off. McGregor, of course,
who last fought at UFC two sixtyfour back in July of twenty twenty
one, when he lost a trilogyfight with Dustin Poyer by TKO before breaking
his tibia, you know, thefirst round. It's been more than four
(21:15):
years since he last won to fight, nearly eight years since he won a
title fight. Fans hoping for thelong away to return to the octagon at
UFCE three. ZHO three saw redflags when a news conference with Chandler schedule
for June third was abruptly postponed withno explanation of the promotion, and rumors
and video of McGregor parting with hisfiance started to swirl. McGregor posted on
(21:41):
Twitter the series of obstacles that causedthe post PonMet but insisted he looked forward
to fighting again, so you know, we'll see. I don't know.
I mean, he was in thatterrible Roadhouse remake that Doug Lyman did.
I guess he's got the acting bug. He was not very good in it.
(22:03):
But uh, it's I I don'tknow how he gets back into fighting.
I mean it's like I don't Idon't know in what way. I
mean, it's we spent a longtime, but Gregor obviously was a fan
favorite and a pretty good draw. But I just don't see a scenario in
which he finds a way to uh, you know, get back in the
(22:27):
UFC. You know, I meanit's when he sat on the mat,
he had a badly broken leg andwas hurling insults at Poorrier, who remains
one of the more popular fighters youknow currently in the UFC. He spent
the entire pre fight process making statementsabout poorer family. Uh they were kind
(22:48):
of line crossing. You know. It's so I you know, he's lost
three of his last four, twolosses to Poorrier, won to the since
retired, could be nov He's stillthe biggest draw at MMA, but you
(23:10):
know, the former two belt Champnever actually defended either belt was stripped both
due to inactivity. So I youknow, I I don't know. You
know, he had a very slowrecovery process, didn't jump back as as
quick as he could have, focusedon his business portfolio. Did the acting
debut opposite Jill A. Hall inthe Roadhouse movie. You know, I
(23:33):
I I don't know. I Uh, he's had some some concerning accusations and
some difficulty speaking, and I Ijust I don't know that he uh is
ever going to get another real shot, you know, back to the UFC.
I guess if you're a draw,you're a draw. But and they'll
they'll find a way. But Ijust I don't understand at this point what
(23:53):
what he's doing, just kind ofhanging around at this point when he's got
other business ventures that a are probablymore lucrative and you know, be feel
more attainable at this point in hiscareer. Wade Phillips has by all accounts,
had a successful and incredibly successful careerin football. One thing he's never
(24:18):
done is reach a championship game asa head coach. Until now, he
is one win from Glory. Phillips'sSan Antonio Bramos faced the Birmingham Stallions on
Sunday in the inaugural UFL Championship Game, marking the first time in his fifty
five years of coaching that he's leda team to the final. Two.
(24:41):
Phillips resume reads like one of thosecomically long drug store receipts. He was
a head coach or interim head coachfor an NFL record six teams, going
eighty two and sixty four across partsof twelve seasons with the Saints, Broncos,
Bills, Falcons, Cowboys, andTexans. Those are just six of
the twenty two roles that he's heldacross high school, college and pro football
(25:06):
since becoming a coach at nineteen sixtynine, the year after he graduated from
Houston as a three year starter atlinebacker. I think everybody knows he's the
son of NFL head coach Bum Phillips. He had nine stints as a defensive
coordinator, won his loan Super Bowlobviously as the Broncos defensive coordinator. In
twenty fifteen, five players won DefensivePlayer of the Year under Wade Phillips,
(25:30):
Reggie White, Price, Pop BruceSmith, JJ Watt, and Aaron Donald
Phillips, who he is seventy six, hasn't coached the NFL since twenty nineteen,
but he's thrived since returning to thesidelines as a spring league head coach.
He led the XFL's Houston Roughnecks tothe playoffs last year, and now
he has they Bromise, who werepicked to finish last by the way on
the brink of a title. Socongratulations to to Wade Phillips, a person
(25:59):
I think a lot of Broncos Countrylamented as being let go when he was
you know, he and again hasn'tcoached in the NFL since twenty nineteen,
but I mean he's still got thejuice. Seventy six years old was tough
to you know. I mean it'stough. It's a tough sell to ownership,
like, hey, we want tobring in this guy who's five years
a weak from being eighty. Butyou know, Waite, Phillis still got
(26:22):
a lot of left in the tank. If he's leading teams pick to finish
dead last to championship appearances, I'llbe watching. Obviously, the UFL,
the combination of the previous incarnation ofthe XFL and USFL. Have they merged
this past year and seems to bedoing pretty well, looks to have a
little bit of stability. It's thisthing, this thing goes forward. We
(26:45):
talked about the double sweep a littlebit with the the NHL and the NBA,
and I'm a little concerned about that. I mean, the series had
been fun, they hadn't been competitive, They hadn't been fun, you know.
I mean you watch Boston just putit to the MAVs and you know,
fat Luca out there, not ableto really defend, and they're taking
advantage of it. The hockey seriesreally hasn't you know, really hasn't been
(27:08):
all that enthralling or entertaining either. And I feel like it's about the worst
thing that can happen to either oneof those brands right now is they're looking
to maximize, you know, theirviewership here in what is essentially the deadist
season in sports. I mean, these are the things, the culmination that
(27:29):
you pay attention to before the doldrumswhere there's only baseball, and to have
a kind of falling flat performance ina sense by one of the teams playing
for the championship sort of goes tohighlight, you know, the problems here.
I think everybody said that, youknow, the Nuggets in the finals
was not going to be a draw. Well it far in a way out
(27:52):
drawing. What's what has gone onin this Boston and Dallas series which is
just frankly been pathetic. Dallas justdoes not have enough. They had enough
to beat a team that couldn't score, the t Wolves, who were set
up to beat the Nuggets. It'skind of interesting because I think if the
Nuggets had taken on Dallas, Ithink they would have beat them pretty handily.
(28:15):
I think they just ran into theone team that could beat them it
was designed to beat them, inthe Timberwolves. And then you know,
of course the timber Wolves had noanswer for the dual backcourt, and that
kind of, you know, sealedtheir premise and their fate. Five six
sixty nine Zeros a text line.Dennis Rodman's son believes he's NBA ready.
(28:38):
DJ Rodman knows what comes with aname. The son of NBA Hall of
Famer Dennis Robin part of a sixplayer Warriors pre draft workout on Thursday and
kind of turned back the clock towhen he began playing basketball, not as
a tiny tight shooting with dad,but watching him on TV as a ten
year old, more than a decadeafter I've been last played in the NBA,
(29:03):
Robin said, people don't DJ Robbinssaid, people don't know that he
wasn't really in my life that much. To reporters of the Chase Center,
It's cool. I remember when Iwas little, I used to watch Hardwood
Classics on NBA TV. It's coollooking back at those memories when I was
little, watching those clips and havingthat be something that I studied almost every
single day. Rebounding That's where Igot it from those videos from those games.
(29:26):
Excuse me, Dennis Robin arguably thegreatest rebound in every history six foot
seven, DJ at six foot six, averaged four point two boards in his
five year college career. There aredifferent players, and you know, play
play a different style. Dennis madeeighty two to three pointers in his fourteen
year NBA career. DJ made eightynine threes in his final two years in
(29:47):
college. DJ Robins spent his firstfour college seasons at Washington State and ended
at USC. Only started twelve gameshis first three years, averaging three point
nine points and three point three boards, while she footing thirty two point seven
percent from three. But in hisfinal two years, Robin started fifty eight
to sixty three games, average twentynine and a half minutes, nine points
five and if I have boards, made thirty seven point two percent of his
(30:11):
three. Mostly played as an undersizedfour because of his toughness and improvements as
a rebounder offensive league, sort ofbecame a strong spot up shooter. He's
hoping to show teams he's more assertiveon offense, so every team he's worked
out with that he's become significantly betterthere and wants to showcase his skills more
as a wing. But you know, to do that, Robin and his
(30:32):
rep who's Tyrol Jamerson of the TripleDouble Sports, came to agree that he
to make changes to his shot. You know, Robin, don't let the
last name fully you. He wasself taught growing up, didn't have personal
trainers, and his game wasn't beingperfected. But you know, he says,
I like to watch myself because Icould actually jump on my jump shot.
Now I actually look like a basketballplayer when I shoot the ball.
(30:52):
He joked that he maybe jumped twoinches when he was at USC and compared
his past shooting mechanics to chantell ohHorror, who shot thirty seven point two
from three as a senior at Washingtoneven though her feet stayed stuck to the
court. So, you know, despite their difference, as his players and
the internet shared traits of you know, father and son. You know,
he talked about rebounding a science andnon athletic feet, expressed his desire to
(31:15):
guard the other team's top scorer, probably himself, on being able to guard
one through five in college. Uhand you know saying that the you know
that the dog was in there. So he didn't take the one year path
like his fellow USC teammate with alittle more famous name, you know,
talking about Brownie. But you know, Robin believes his path and continued development
(31:37):
set it out for success and believeshe's going to be, you know,
a big thing in the in theNBA. I'll be. It'd be fascinating
to see, you know, DennisRobin was not really a factor in his
life apparently, And you know,I I that's a shame because it sounds
like this kid's got like the rightattitude where his dad, you know,
bad doesn't want to be in allthat stuff, and it's it sounds like
his kids really got the right attitude, So I'm sort of sort of fascinating
(32:02):
to kind of see what their trajectoryis. With all that, we talked
about Bronni a little bit, anddespite all the rumors and flirtations, the
expectation around the league is that theLakers would end up drafting him, but
in the second round. This worksfor LA on a couple levels. Bronnie
is a legit NBA prospect and thekind of player work to take a shot
on, you know, kind ofafter pick forty, and if he keeps
(32:24):
his father happy, lebron can bea free agent this summer if he wants.
Bronnie James worked out for the Lakerson Thursday. According to people with
knowledge of the situation, it's athleticism, defensive potential, and shooting at the
Chicago combine of interested the Lakers, who could make history by pairing him with
his father. Should lebron James remainon the team, he does have an
(32:45):
opt out. The Lakers are notgoing to use pick seventeen on him,
but they do have the fifty tofifth pick in the second round, and
they could trade assets and get apick in the forties if they wanted.
Of course, nothing is ever certain, but the Lakers, if they do,
they would select him in the inthe second round and make him and
Lebron the first ever father son duoin the NBA, even if he spends
(33:08):
a lot of his first season, probably in the G League. Dan Hurley,
we we talked about how he rejectedthe the Lakers. He's kind of
doing the media tour, you know. He said he was given a quote
out and maybe maybe tipped sort ofwhat was going on at the top of
the NBA draft, saying Quinn Snyderis a really smart guy. You know
(33:30):
the Atlanta Hawks. We like DonovanKlingen, so I was kind of able
to talk to him about Donovan andthen also pick his brain. In large
part, Hurley obviously coached him atYukon and sort of standard operating procedure for
him to hype up his guy. This would be interesting because Atlanta obviously has
the number one overall pick, andit would be interesting to see if this
(33:51):
is sort of a smoke screen.Maybe try to get a team to jump
up and you know, package somepicks or package of pick and players to
go after French Wing, Zachary orSocker or you know, whoever, it's
widely kind of sort of thought ofas the is the is the top pick
in this draft. So just youknow, something to keep your eye on,
(34:13):
is uh, you know, asthis thing goes around and be a
draft of course right around the corner, and we will be keeping our eye
on that here at KOW as well. Appreciate you guys sticking around with me
later on a Friday, five sixsix nine zeros. The text line,
if I didn't get you to answeryour questions, I saw a couple of
(34:34):
questions coming in there. We've hadsome issues lately with the you know,
the the answering of the text throughour messaging system, So I apologize if
if you're not getting answers or whatever, I try to read them out out
loud on the air, just tojust to double check that if we have,
you know, if I see somesome questions in there that that deserve
