(00:00):
Then I need you to do threethings here. Three things, okay,
three things today. First things first, I need you to get your picture
taken next to Gwyneth Paltrow at acold Play concert wearing a gold suit made
of rich Corinthian leather and a topgun v neck t shirt. And I
need you to link up with ChrisBaron a spin doctors write a song about
(00:25):
Broncos Country tonight called state Sponsored.Okay, I need to pair up with
Stetson Cologne God create your own blend. If you get all three of those
things done, you have a seventchance of getting back on the Taking It
(00:47):
for Granted podcast. Wow, yougot like every reference for the last five
years and well done, certain wellsas a Blosso yeah, that's that was
phenomenal. Absolutely crushed it last time. And I got to call myself out
here at a minute, but we'llget to that. Second's go to the
k Wait Commas Sparrel hotline and bringout our buddy Lance Sanderson from Mile Higo.
Huddle, Lance, how you dothis evening? Good Dan. It's
(01:07):
always fun to be on with theguy that has the best fashion sense in
all of Denver media. That being, you know, Grant Smith with the
mustache and the beard combination. ButI would say the same thing about you.
But you've got that Diet Sterling Archervibe all about you right now,
I can give you too many compliments. Diet Sterling Archer is still in the
(01:29):
top point one percent of the onepercent of fashion icons, so I'll take
it. I accidentally, before wehit the brake, for those of you
expecting, the basketball player for theIowa Wolves suggested that Lance Stevenson was coming
on because I was looking at ameme of him blowing in Lebron's ear,
and so I accidentally called you LanceStevenson. So I am. I'm glad
(01:49):
that we were able to give ouraudience something better than the mean guy who
blew in Lebron's ear. Well, you know what, if I could be
at least halfway the famous as RyanStevenson. I think I'm doing all right
for myself anyways, buddy, Butit's always fun beyond man. How you
doing. I'm doing built pretty well, man doing pretty well. I'm glad
we got to play that clip becausethat was an all time cram as many
references in moment, and Nick andI I certainly appreciated that we got the
(02:15):
you know over in the middle ofthe Broncos off season, and it has
been an interesting off season so far. Interesting in the sense that it's been
mostly quiet, despite the fact thatthe Denver Broncos have moved on from a
major quarterback and drafted a quarterback inthe first round for the you know for
the first time in a long time. It's it's it's sort of fascinating to
(02:36):
watch this evolution of Sean Payton aswell, because I don't know if you've
seen it, but Sean Payton appearsto be a guy who has refound his
joy. I think a big partof it, and we're talking about a
little bit about it with stink Onearlier. I didn't touch the full conversation,
but just the the toxic positivity thatyou have coined here on Broncos Country,
(03:00):
going around in that building, youknow, where everything is butterflies and
rainbows. We've got the film crewingaround YadA yaday out of the whole Nathaniel
Hackett, just a backle of thatera, cleansing the building of that building,
your own culture and getting a guyin there that apparently you have grown
to come and love in Bo Nixonreally was the guy that he were going
to be trying to move forward withthis franchise. I mean, getting the
(03:22):
people that you trust in the building, getting the people at the toxic positivity.
The people don't really don't mess wellwith what you want to do,
not only within the building, butout on the field. I mean,
running the offense is as it's writtenup, you know, playing within the
structure of the offense, throwing theball with timing, anticipation, rhythm,
accuracy, stuff like that, allthose things that Russell Wilson really didn't do
(03:43):
last season. This year, Ithink we're kind of seeing Sean Payton take
a little bit of a step back, understanding the situation a little bit better,
knowing that he has a quarterback thathe can trust to go out there
and at least try to operate thisoffense in the way that it was designed.
I'm gonna fall out and say it, I do expect bo Nicks to
be the day once and I thinkthat because of what he does on the
football field, Sean Payton is kindof a little mc giddy with himself right
(04:05):
now and like you said, refoundhis love for the game of football.
It felt like last year in alot of times he was kind of sour.
We saw that relationship with Russell Wilson, especially with the apex of it
feeling like the explosion there on thesideline in Detroit. But yeah, all
right, he is kind of morejovial than he has been less mercurial,
(04:27):
and sort of seems like that he'senjoying himself. And maybe that is the
byproduct of the Bonix thing, whichyou know, I think everybody sort of
the organizationally hopes that that will beQB one on day one. Whether or
not that that comes to fruition remainsto be seen. But as we look
around this roster and George Peyton hasbeen somebody that is that has been much
(04:48):
maligned. He has his missteps,I mean the Randy Gregory signing, you
know, et cetera. But Ithink that if we're being honest, the
talent level top to bottom on theBroncos now is better than it was when
George Payden got here. Do youagree, Yeah, I would agree with
that. It helps that you hiton your number one overall draft pick.
(05:10):
Well, I guess number nine overall, the first pick you ever made,
and land the number one cornerback inthe NFL and patser ten. That definitely
helps a lot there. But Ithink a big thing is, well,
I agree that it is better thanwhat it was, it's still not quite
exactly what it needs to be tobe successful moving forward, because especially at
the skill position right now, you'vegot so many injuries that you just don't
know exactly how these players are goingto come back, whether it's Javonte Williams
(05:33):
coming back from that knee injury againfrom last season, the way that he
kind of slowed down towards the tailend of the year last year. You've
got Tim Patrick coming off of thetorn acl the torn achilles, and back
to back seasons. You've got GregDolsa that you seemingly cannot find a piece
of wet tissue paper that is strongerthan his hamstring. Right now, there's
(05:53):
so much talent here, but theproblem is it's all potential. It's all
unrealized potential, and less we cansee these guys really step up on the
field and put it all together ona down in down out, game in
game out basis, you really justdon't know exactly what this team is going
to look like, specifically on theoffensive side of the football. Defensively,
though, I really do think thatthe Broncos have some key pieces to work
(06:15):
with here. I know that BaronBrowning again a player with a bunch of
injuries, he flashes a lot whenhe's out there on the field. Nick
Benito took a big step last year, even though there was some unblocked playmaking
potential out of Nick Patido last yearthat you've got again, Pats or can
you hit on Jakwan McMillan. PJ. Locke really took another big step forward
last year at such move on fromJustin Simmons. But I think the Broncos
(06:38):
are in good hands at least offensively, and then just to continue to build
up that cornerback room with a guylike Chris ab Restraint, who I really
liked out in Missouri. You goget Levi Wallace to upgrade Favian Moreau.
I do think that this team isgoing in the right direction. But again,
you've got to go back to justbeing healthy, seeing these guys out
there for an entire season, andgetting away from that potential word, because
(06:59):
I mean, yes, it's niceto have players like a Courtland Sutton,
who is a very underappreciated wide receiveracross the NFL. But like Tim Patrick,
you know, you've got Marvin Mins, who really needs to take a
step back a big step forward thisyear. You've got Troy Franklin. I'm
actually watching the tape up as we'retalking right now. I've got a film
breakdown coming on him here soon. There's a lot of potential there. What
does it actually look like with allin sync on the field. That's the
(07:23):
biggest question for me right now.All I got from that was that you
said the word in sayning and you'relooking forward to a reunion tour. I'm
getting I agree with you, andI think the the you know, the
obvious thing here is the potential energyto kinetic energy sort of sort of thing.
Here. You go from being allthis potential into becoming consistent players,
and I think that's a part ofwhat this coaching staff is tasked with doing.
(07:44):
There's a collection of talent here, now turn it into a successful football
team. And that'll be the questionas to how quickly it is is able
to jel. I want to goback to something you said, it's easy
to it's easy to sort of buildthose something we need. Your first draft
pick right, but the media wasall saying that he was wrong. The
media was all saying that why wouldyou take a corner there when a quarterback
like Justin Fields was available. Infact, the media was eviscerating Peyton from
(08:07):
the beginning for not taking Justin Fieldswhen in hindsight it was the correct call
along to draft passer Tan. Yesit was. And I was one of
those people that was not necessarily ahuge fan of the pass or Tan picked.
A big part of it was becauseof Justin Fields, but also because
I didn't necessarily know the ability ofpats Er Tan to really kind of mold
his way into the Vic Fangil defense, playing off the ball, playing off
(08:30):
more zone coverage. When that matchquarters cover four kind of seen that Vicdangiel
liked to do. Then Vicdangel kindof switched it around, ran some more
two man, put passer Tan inpress and it turned out to be one
of the greatest marriages that we've seenfor the Broncos in the past what half
decade or so. So to me, I always will go back to the
process and then you and not goneback and forth on this on Twitter a
handful of different times. To me, the process at that particular point would
(08:52):
have been to take Justin Fields. But again, in hindsight, you've got
the best quarterback in the NFL.He's going to get a massive pain day,
hopefully here in Denver. Hopefully theycan figure out the way to relay
the message that this team is buildingin a correct direction and not to go
chase that money somewhere else, youknow, because that was absolutely the correct
pick, at least at this particularpoint in hindsight. Well, right,
(09:15):
and I think that you know this, this team has been a bit hamstrong
obviously with the trades of or four, Russell Wilson and Sean Payton, and
we finally are getting back, youknow, we're back to having all our
draft picks. Did you find itat all interesting that the team hired David
Shaw? I did. Actually, that was something that I was kind of
hoping the Broncos would do in thislast coaching search. Was really kind of
(09:37):
give David Shall a little bit moreof a run. And I know that
he really didn't want to take thatnext leap right there, that the opportunity
wasn't quite right. But he's avery trusted member, at least was a
trusted member of Sean Payton's coaching staff, if I remember correctly back in New
Orleans or even in I believe inNew York as well. But no,
that was that was something that wasvery noteworthy to me to see a guy
(09:58):
that has not only cold cltivated Andrewluck is one of the best quarterback prospects
we've ever seen, but multiple differentfirst round picks, Andrews Steep, a
handful of other different players twenty eightI believe total drafted players across his tenure
as the head coach of the StanfordCardinal. There a very wide and respected
football man, and it just kindof it brings another kind of questions here
(10:20):
on what is the future of GeorgePayton. And I know that we just
got done talking about how George Paytonhas done a really good job of kind
of building this team with some talent, But this is a Sean Payton hire.
This is a guy that Sean Paytontrusts, he knows is going to
have the right vision. He gavehim a title that doesn't necessarily mean anything,
but he gets them inside the building. And I think that to me
is a really big noteworthy thing aboutthat hiring. Yeah, and David Jaw
(10:41):
worked together with Sean Payton back atthe Eagles. Back in ninety seven,
he was under John Gruden at theRaiders and was tasked with helping to elevate
Rich Gannon at quarterback, and thenwent on to the you know, the
Ravens as a quarterbacks receivers coach, before ultimately winding up at Stanford a little
later on Hardball staff. Yeah,it was interesting to me the senior personnel
executive title, little nebulous, youknow, kind of wondering what exactly that
(11:05):
means and what role that he's goingto Uh, he's going to take over,
but it's uh, but it issort of fascinating. I think you
brought in Cody Ragor before you bringin him. Sean Payton's getting his guys
in the building as far as thatgoes, and he you know, I
don't know if that's a direct kindof reason that he looks as sort of
comfortable as he does now, butit certainly can't hurt. What is the
(11:28):
what is the biggest storyline for youas we head into training camp? Yeah,
it's obviously the quarterback position, butquite honestly, I want to see
what this I kind of alluded toit. What do these skilled positions look
like going forward? What does therunning back room look like? Is Devonte
Williams still going to be at DenverBronco obviously going into a contract year this
year, coming off of a seasonwhere he did wear down late down the
(11:52):
stretch. You have some m JPRyan who is probably the most trusted third
down back on this roster right nowin terms of pass protection, his ability
out of the backfield to just bekind of that safety net, that safety
blanket for a young quarterback in boNicks. Then you've got Julie McLoughlin and
then Blake Watson who's a very intriguingplayer coming out of out of Memphis.
Like the way that this this andAugust guess me in there as well,
(12:13):
the way this running back room, how that's going to shape out is a
very big storyline to me. Ithink that we could see a surprise release
here, maybe even a trade,a potential trade of a Javonte Williams or
a samaj p Ryan. And thenthe big thing to me is what does
this wide receiver room look like? How exactly are they going to go about
constructing this thing? Because they likein they've got a lot of potential.
(12:33):
They've got a lot of talent there. They've got some injuries they've got to
work their way through. But Imean Courtland Sutton contract here, he's he's
looking like he's going to be poisedfor a big time season this year.
You've got Marvin Mims, who Ithink is going to explode in a Brandon
Cooks kind of a role, runninga bunch of crossing routes because his linear
speed just does so much to stressthe field, not only vertically but horizontally.
(12:54):
Kind of going towards that. TheMiami Dolphins here, if you will
for just a second. Here, they've got all that speed, and they've
got Tyreek Hill, They've got JalenWaddell. You know, they can stretch
the field vertically, but they doso well stretching the field horizontally as well
to open up a bunch of giganticthrowing windows and create a bunch of explosive
plays. I think Sean Payton. When you've got a guy like Troy Flanklin,
(13:15):
when you've got a guy like MarvinNims, you've got Corton Sutton who
can take the top off a littlebit in terms of a contestants catch kind
of a guy, and if GregDolfisch does stay healthy bed like I was,
it's almost like a dream of mineto go back. I know that
this is going to sound crazy, but the one game, maybe really one
half that Nathaniel Hackett was in hisbag as a play caller was when he
had Greg Dolfich and kJ Handler linedup on the same side of the field
(13:37):
running Swiss release verticals and they wereactually able to exploit the Jacksonville Jaguars in
London a couple of years ago.So if you can get those guys healthy,
realize those potentials, you can reallysee this offense take a big step
forward. And obviously you've got ayoung quarterback. You don't know exactly the
way that that's going to play out, but getting easy, open throwing windows
for a guy with a little bitlesser arm talent in terms of ball ball
(14:00):
coming off of his hand, it'sgonna be a huge storyline moving forward,
looking forward to Atlance, where's mylasagna? I knew we were gonna do.
My garden's growing. I've got likesix cherry tomato plants. We've got
a whole bunch of stuff going onout there. Our Rosemary is not doing
too great this year, unfortunately,But I've got fresh Italian sausage. I've
(14:22):
got elk meat for burger. We'regonna make some noodles. We're gonna do
our own Marinera sauce. I've gotfresh mozzarella and fresh cheddar chees this year.
My father in laws making some cheddarcheese. So we'll do as a
good fresh lazagnia as soon as wecan. Hopefully I'm gonna be down there
for the Mile High Huddle Meet andGreek. Just a shameless plug here.
Week two, the Steelers game,Mile High Huddle will be doing the meet
(14:45):
and greet as we do every singleyear, so I'm hoping to be down
there that weekend. Get ready tostart a new job, so I'm not
quite sure exactly how that's gonna workout, but yeah, one of these
days we need to do a lasagna. I need to burn the steaks for
you and let's just have fun andhave a beer, all right, mus
do it man. I'm looking forwardto it. And he is Lance Sanderson
from Mile High Huddle. We alwaysappreciate you coming on, Bud. It's
(15:05):
always great to have to just beable to come on man, and I
try to say this to everybody wheneverI get an opportunity to go on another
show. Just having a collaborative mediaenvironment, man like going on as many
shows and having as many different peopletalking with each other open up some different
perspectives. It is always great. Not only for me. I have a
grime doing it, but I thinkit helps Edifire fan base. We've got
a great fan base out here inBroncos Country and just to have a collaborative
(15:28):
media environment makes everybody smarter and everybodybetter. Man. So thanks for having
me. I appreciate it absolutely.I totally agree with you and appreciate the
time. Is always have to haveyou on again soon. Roccos Country Night,
got to hit a break six backcut up next, Welcome to It
Broncos Country Tonight. Benjamin Albright,Grit smith Man, The Myth the Mustache
(15:48):
seven to Elas is with you,Ben. Pumpkin Pie is awful. Banana
cream pie is where it's at.It looks like your number on the text
sign. That's not my number.I had to look for a minute.
I was like ix tuch line, but I look close to my number.
Yeah, I'm a bit ed acream pie guy like Key Lime Pie,
the key Pie, It's fine, the snow pop Light pumpkint Pie, but
(16:11):
Key Lime Pie is average. It'sfine. It depends on the meringue.
I'm taking crazy pills. They I'llwash it down with an NFL six pack.
It's time for the NFL six pad. I'm gonna train thet year insight
and inside information you can't find anywhereelse. No. Six, the top
six NFL headline. What not allNFL stories today because there's been some crazy
(16:36):
stuff happening in the world of sportsand entertainment. But first one for you.
Six climate protesters stormed the eighteenth Greenwhile the leaders were lining up their
putts for the final hole of regulationat the PGA Tour Travelers Championship on Sunday,
spraying smoke and powder and delaying thefinish for about five minutes that Scottie
(16:56):
Scheffler ended up winning his six winin his last ten events. First off,
what do you think about the protests? And secondly, is Scott A.
Scheffler the best golfer we've seen sinceTiger Woods in his prime? Certainly
on a roll. I'll start withthe last part. For a chefer,
certainly on a roll. I don'tknow if he's the best goal for since
since Tiger's prime, but uh,he's certainly the best goal for right now
(17:18):
in the moment. I wonder howlong that moment will last. Golf could
be such a fickle mistress. Asfar as the protest to go, first
of all, what are you doingprotesting? Like, anything that you do
that is going to cause an annoyanceto people is not going to help your
protest were people are going to laughat you as crackpots, all right,
And that's before we even get towhat your cause is. Any anytime you
(17:40):
barricade traffic, I'm talking about peoplethat craws the bottle of the highways.
I'm talking about truckers that were doingthis thing. Anytime you barricade traffic,
people just get annoyed. Yeah, they're not going to be on your side.
They're not on your side after thisis like the worst thing if you
inconvenience people. You know, doI believe that sometimes you need to get
find a way to get your messageup in people's face and make a little
(18:00):
uncomfortable. Yeah, I kind ofdo. I'm with you on that.
That said, anything that you doto inconvenience people buying large is probably going
to just annoy them to make themturn against you. In this particular case,
something about no golf on a deadplanet. That's what their T shirt's
right, which, if I'm notmistaken, didn't Alan Shepherd already prove that
wrong like forty years ago when hehad a golf ball in the moon.
I'm just saying, yeah, Imean, I don't know. To me,
(18:22):
this is the wrong way to doit, and not just because interrunts
of a golfing. It's just likeit's just not the way to do if
you want to get attention, findanother way to do it. That All
this does now is make me lookat these people like, Okay, you
guys are koops. I'm probably notgoing to be supporting or affiliating with your
cause. I might have been receptiveto whatever it was before. And Scotty
Scheffler, who's had his fair shareof incidents with cops and law enforcement constantly,
(18:45):
he said, from my point ofview, it got taken care of
pretty dang fast, and we wereso very grateful for that. I wonder
if he can compare the police responsetime as far as arrests. Two speaking
of a Chiefs release defensive lineman IsaiahBuggs after a multiple off season incidents.
(19:06):
Do you have any more info onthis story? Yeah, it's been a
lot. I mean, he's he'saccused of the domestic violence. He's had
a dog's issue, which apparently itturns out it wasn't his dogs, but
a property heat vacant and renal propertyheat vacated down here in Alabama. Had
some dogs that were abandoned on theporch. They've been abandoned there for ten
days. One of them had tobe put down it was so emaciated.
(19:26):
The other one is they tried torecover. He's had several incidents at his
hookah bar that he has where hebrings in a lot of celebrity clientele thanks
to his connection as a Kansas Citychief and some of the things that he's
done. But he's just basically beena problem child and at some point the
juice isn't worth the squeeze anymore. And so, you know, Kansas City,
who was already having a rough offseason in terms of public relations when
(19:48):
you look at Rashi, Rice andHarrison, Butker, I just don't think
that that they look at this andThey're like, look, this guy's not
even a starter for us, Socome on, this isn't This isn't you
know a situation where we've got astarter who's was doing something. This is
this is stead way what are wedoing here? All of this while Travis
Kelsey is jet setting across the worldwith Taylor Swift on stage. Yeah,
see what tour? Is this? That the Era's tour? Yeah? Yeah,
(20:11):
a top hat. He was doingclick at his heels on stage and
carried the good for them. Alsotook a picture with Prince William with a
us A hat on. Yeah.I saw that. I thought that was
good. I did see that epictrolly Sir three case Keenum. He said
that he is excited to see StefanDiggs in Houston and says he hasn't lost
(20:33):
a step. Are you excited tosee Stefan Diggs in Houston? And how
does he compare to his former self? Well, I mean he clearly lost
the step last year. Now,whether or not he's rejuvenated himself in the
offseason, who knows. I'll saythis, I was concerned when they made
that move about what he does tothat young locker room, because that was
(20:53):
a young didn't know what they didn'tknow kind of locker room at this point.
You bring me in a veteran kneefirst guy like Stefan Diggs and tossing
him into a situation where they kindof had a real team approach to everything.
It has an oil and water kindof potential to it. We've seen
(21:15):
digs wear out as welcome other placesalready. You know, I a part
of me hopes it works out forboth parties because I like to see him,
you know, teams and players besuccessful. But I am skeptical when
it comes to that. Yeah, seems like everywhere he goes, drama is
always near behind him. At somepoint, it's not the drama, it's
you. That's a good one forWe talked a little bit about this earlier
(21:40):
on KOA Sports Today, But overthe weekend, the Rockies won and historic
fashion a first time ever feat inMajor League Baseball by winning with a walk
off pitchclock violation. What do youmake of this? I guess it's good
to see the Rockies making some goodhistory. I mean, whether by hook
or by crook, right, whateverit takes, you know, if that's
(22:02):
what it takes to winness, Whatit takes to win. I guess I
I I will take it because theRockies will take anything at this point.
But yeah, what a what awhat an embarrassing thing to have if you're
the opposition, What an embarrassing thingto have happened closing pitcher? Right,
you're closer, you want the worstthat you've had pitchclocks for a while,
which I hate the pitch clock personally, but at the same time, I'm
(22:25):
like you, you're You're used toit by now. There should be no
at this point. Uh, youhad one job and you didn't do it.
Just throw the pitch on time, right, so that you know.
Yeah, I mean I would bepersonally embarrassed if it if it happened to
me. But I mean if you, if you're the rockiesn't mean cool.
You're a little nifty, little partof history, and you gotta win out
(22:45):
of it. Can't complain too much. You gotta take whatever wins you can
get this time of year. Andshout out to the Tennessee Volunteers winning their
first ever Men's College World Series Aand M. Yeah and listen to them.
Five group of swim coaches. Isaw you retweet this earlier so I
had to include it in the sixthpack. A group of swim coaches are
(23:06):
trying to disqualify swimmer Reagan Smith aftershe was caught on camera saying a quote
unquote bad word after breaking the worldrecord and the one hundred backstroke. Bro
I'm about to say a bad wordto those people right now live. This
is absolutely absurd. They're voting fora disqualification of somebody who just broke the
(23:27):
world record in one hundred meter backstrokebecause she celebrated and set an expletive ride
afterwards. Get the bleep out ofhere. Can you imagine being the loser
that is voting for a disqualification there? Like, what, get take your
nerd energy and get out of here. This is this is the dumbest thing
I've ever heard of. I can'tI can't even imagine. I would just
(23:48):
if I were that swimmer, Iwould just like look at I would look
at them and saying and move on, Like I would just I would laugh
at them. What you're gonna takemy world record away from me? There's
this way going to decr right.I mean, there's there's people that are
actually trying to do it. It'sthis is the dumbest thing I've ever seen.
Just just get off your your highhorse here. Words only have power
if you give him power. Letme go shout out to Kyle Sockwell,
(24:10):
the guy you retweeted. He putup a side by side of Michael Phelps
and someone else from previous Olympics andyou can read the words on their lips.
They are many more expletives. Thisis what we want with the word
police's taunting. This is just somebodycelebrating. Get out of here with that
energy. Yet, oh god, that would get riled up. Six final
(24:32):
story and from the gaming world.Very interesting story esports story. Yes,
Doctor Disrespect has been banned from Twitchand now most of his companies he worked
with, including his own game studio, have parted ways with him. Who
is Doctor Disrespect for people that don'tknow? And why is he getting banned?
All right? So esports or videogames for the poors out there.
(24:56):
Doctor Disrespect is a character created byherschel beam Tea was a former NCAAD two
basketball player at cal State Polytech. He's like six foot eight, He's the
tall guy. He's forty two yearsold. One of the more popular streamers
as far as that kind of stuffgoes was permanently banned. Ray he signed
a multi year deal with Twitch backin twenty twenty in Mars, and it
(25:17):
was permanently banned. On June twentysixth of a twenty twenty he switched over
to YouTube attempted to sue it wasa confidential settlement, you know, as
far as that kind of stuff goes, and it is the situation where he
has tap danced around saying he knowswhy he's banned or didn't know why he's
banned, and all this kind ofstuff. Well, on June twenty first,
(25:38):
former Twitch director of Strategic Partnerships CodyConnors got on Twitter and said the
reason for his ban was that heinappropriately messaged a miner on the platforms now
defunct whispers messaging function kind of adirect message this kind of thing on Twitch
and attempted to meet that minor anda Twitch Con event. Another former employee
corroborated the story to The Verge Doctordisrespect. He responded on Twitter by stating
(26:02):
that the legal case was settled andno wrongdoing was and I'm quoting here,
no wrongdoing was acknowledged. On Junetwenty fourth, Midnight Society the gaming studio
co founded by him, or leasta statement that after speaking with the parties
involved, was immediately terminating his relationshipwith them and just about everybody else at
this point is as it started earlygot this is something that's been I don't
(26:26):
want to say well known, butat least known by people that I know
throughout the gaming community. This isnot something that's new news. It's just
the problem with reporting on this becauseI keep getting asked why ahead' somebody or
if this was known, why couldn'tpeople report on Because of the nature of
the lawsuit, the NBA's that theyhad all signed, and the confidentiality agreement
with the lawsuit was it was impossibleto get on the record sourcing to be
(26:51):
able to with firsthand knowledge to beable to do this, and nobody could
pass along the communicates or the identitiesof the people in So it was a
problem where we knew this guy waswas was a piece of you know what,
but we couldn't We couldn't get himfor it because we didn't have a
way to do this without rumor monitoring. And it's it's one of those things
where, uh, you know, the legal system and the and and journalism
(27:15):
kind of created its own barriers here, uh to kind of get this guy.
But it's all coming out now,and now the fact that Cody's no
longer a Twitch employee and it's notunder an NDA, after having had that
that timeframe go on long enough thathe's able to talk about this. I
was glad he was able to uh, uh you know, to to get
out there and say that. Andhe did it without saying the name,
(27:37):
you know, he he just kindof got out there and said your Twitch
band was permanent. We know thereasons why. I kind of listed it
out and h I you know,I've talked to some people that know throughout
the industry there are great, justgreat reporters out there that are reporting on
this. I think Josh Lecky outthere is reporting on this. If you
like that kind of stuff, yougot uh Kevin Hitt, Who's who will
be reporting on this? Uh Andyou'll see more of this stuff start to
(27:59):
come out. He has a verylarge fan base and a lot of people
on Twitter. When I started retweetingthis, they were like, why are
you retweeting? Is this speculation He'sbeing framed and all this other stuff,
And I'm like, man, youguys are on the wrongest side of this
possible, I promise. And it'sone of those things that sort of brought
up for me. You know,a phenomenon that is very prevalent in the
(28:22):
modern sort of social media age,and that is that people, when they
form their first opinion of something, they will do any sort of mental gymnastics
to back it up. It's wellto justify it. Yeah, you know,
I mean they'll they'll they'll tie themselvesin knots trying to justify the first
thing that they read, rather thangoing back, re examining and saying I
got it wrong. And you know, this is going to be one of
(28:45):
those situations that a lot of peoplewho said a lot of things in support
of this guy are about to findout that he's he really is kind of
you know, trash. Even ifthis doctor disrespect character, which is a
character he plays sport like the AndyKaufman, you know, kind of you
know, doing the characters and stuff. But the person behind that was messaging
a minor and trying to meet upwith them at a uh at a convention,
(29:07):
and and that's I'm sorry, that'sjust just wrong. No matter which
way you slice it. So,uh, this stuff's gonna come out and
you'll see you'll see a lot moreof that. If you've ever seen this
guy, he is, he's kindof a bombastic personality, his character he
created. He six foot eight,He's got this black kind of mullet wig
with these Oakley sunglasses and a giantmustache and people who you know, it's
(29:29):
just funny because people probably asking rightnow, where's the sports show? What
are you doing talking about this? And like, well, esports are a
big thing first of all, andsecond of all, this is uh,
this is somebody that's recognizable. Hebasically created a what you would what would
be like a WWE character in thecompetitive gaming world to do these streams and
all this kind of stuff, andhead uh nearly had the record for most
(29:51):
concurrent streams at a time came within. He had three hundred and eighty eight
thousand people concurrent viewers, which isjust short of the four hundred and ten
thousand record. He on his YouTubechannel has four point seven three million subscribers
and seven hundred and thirty eight milliontotal views. So this isn't something that's
(30:11):
like my you know, people askingright now like all his video gaming is
what ten people. No, man, the guy's got four point seven three
million people that subscribe to his YouTubechannel. Yeah, two and a half
million followers on Twitter. And it'scrazy how times have changed to when we
were growing up and the people wouldsay, you know, video games will
never lead anywhere. And now peoplehave four hundred thousand people watching them play
(30:33):
a video game, right, andit's sort of watching him play, not
even playing themselves, just watching himplay. And it's it's funny because you
know, I used to make thatjoke. But ma, well, if
it UNLV doesn't offer this Nintendo scholarship, I don't know what I'm doing.
You know that we used to bea joke when I was in high school.
Now it's a it's a real thingthat they really have out there.
This isn't an inche thing. Imean, it's it's funny because I was
talking with somebody the other day overin sales department. They're like, well,
Ben's got two hundred thousand followers onTwitter. That is massive. Like,
(30:56):
bro, this guy's got two millionmillion. I can't two hundred thousand
is? I mean, it isa massive number. It's ridiculous that many
people should not be following little oldb but you know, for whatever reason.
Yeah, So anyway, this situationis as bad, it's about to
blow up a little bit, andI wanted to cover that one a little
bit as well. Broncos Country tonightright here on KA fifty am ninety four
