Sing five to sixty six nine zerois the text line Rocco's Country, and
(00:05):
I will give way to coverage ofthe Republican National Convention right here on Kiawa
starting the top of the hour ateight o'clock tonight. We had during the
break, we looked up a bunchof this Firehawks stuff. And these things
are like genius birds. These aresmart birds. Yeah, smarter than some
people I know. Uh huh,it's smarter than me. I'd be one
(00:26):
of the dumb birds. I'm justsaying. I believe those birds are called
pigeons. Wait you sure I wouldbe a pigeon. I would not figure
out to pick up like these thingsthat they live around fire and they picked
the toys and they used to flush. I mean, that's just incredibly intelligent.
Once it won, Texter from thethree or three by the way,
says the commanders should change their mascotto the Firehawks. We need to get
Coach Pagano involved. Hey, Ihave to put in that call, and
(00:48):
we'll already put the call and wemight be talking in next week. So
okay, see we'll see how that. We'll see that shakes out. Somebody
from the seven two oh phoenix galhere since twenty sixteen, we have seagulls
and parking lots and Wilton even thoughwe're landlocked. I think they came here
and decided to stay, just likeI did. There you go, okay,
we'll do it. I just hadnever seen him before. I don't
know. It's going to the kWait commsprel hotline though, and bring on
(01:10):
our guy, Cody Rour Cody, how you doing this evening? I'm good,
gentleman. We're fascinated by uh whatstarted off as a story about a
bird that caught fire and burned downeleven hundred acres uh here in Colorado,
which has led us down the rabbithole to the point where we are now
reading up on Australian fire hawks, which are birds that apparently pick up They
live around wildfires. They pick upflaming twigs and they throw them at things
(01:33):
to flush prey out. And Iam just fascinated by this genius bird.
Did did a bird pick up astick and create a fire here? Did
you miss something? Well? Nobird, I guess it landed on a
transformer, which is not an autobotor decepticon as I as I so sadly
found out. Uh, and itlanded on a transformer and I guess completed
the circuit, caught fire and burneddown a house in eleven hundred acres.
(01:56):
That's the origin story here, That'sthat's what created this villainy this up.
No, you really can't, so, Cody, we got training camp coming
up next week. Rookie is alreadyreporting Blake Watson on the the NFI list.
Thus far as we as we getcloser and closer to training camp,
I know everybody's gonna say the quarterbacks, But what are we really most looking
forward to here? Uh? Youknow, I just think seeing all the
(02:20):
new skill guys. I mean, obviously, you know me, I'm a
little biased. I'm a defensive backguy, but I also know that part
of being a defensive back means youhave to cover receivers. So the multitude
of guys at dB, the multitudeof guys at wide receiver, I think
there's gonna be some really fun positionbattles there. I think for me specifically,
I feel like Denver's top four widereceivers already set, So who emerges
as the fifth? You know,we just see a little bit more from
(02:43):
Troyce Franklin et cetera. Yeah,I think that's kind of you know what
I'm most looking forward to seeing herethis week. All right, So Ben
and I were talking before you jumpedon about this this list that maybe but
ESPN talked about it's. Yeah, they got it for the out of input
from the coaches and scouts in frontoffice guys. Yeah, and they had
pats Ertan number one on last yearit was Sauce Gardner. What does that
(03:07):
mean for Pat, Sertan and justthe Broncos overall to know that coming into
training camp he is the top ratedcorner. Yeah. You know, I
think a lot of NFL executives admirehis game, and I think, you
know, in comparison to Sauce,I mean, what was it one blurb
and that thing said that you knowhe call holding on him on every play.
(03:29):
I think there's a lot of validityto that when you watch him,
and look, I'm a corner,I'm a DV guy here, but when
I look at Pat, there's nota lot of that in Pat's game.
Like Pat to me is the mosttechnically refined corner in the game. Sure,
people are gonna say, well, last year, you know, he
you know, gave up a lotmore catches. I think that was a
byproduct of the Broncos playing a lotof off ball coverage. And look,
(03:50):
I I know one thing about Pat. Patt is super excited about this year.
You're gonna see him move around alot more. You're gonna see him
getting back to playing press Manda mancoverage in situations versus just consistently playing off
ball. I'm excited about that.I think you're gonna see the best year
from Pat just yet. And Ithink executives they watched his game, they
say, hey, this guy allaround, you know, as the most
(04:13):
refined game out of all the cornerbacksthe NFL. And look, I would
even say that Jalen Johnson is probablythe second best cornerback in the league.
And I would maybe put Soft inthe third or fourth area if I had
to put my own list together.Still not going to discount Jalen Ramsey.
So I would go, okay,PS two Jalen Johnson, Ramsey, and
then maybe Saws of four. Yeah, I think we all can agree that
Patterer Tan is at minimum of thetop five corner good to be getting the
(04:36):
respect of his peers around the leagueand place in the top that list.
But the bigger question for the Broncosis who's going to be the starting corner
on the opposite side of him.We kind of we kind of figured out
that we had a slot corner lastyear, you know, but we we
need somebody on the opposite side frompats er Tan And who's that gonna be.
Is Riley Moss gonna step into thatrole? You know? Do we
(04:58):
give another u you know, dowe give another opportunity to to the kid
we had out there at the startthe season? Do we do we go
with the veteran pick up in leeVi Wallace? It's uh, there are
there are options here, but noneof them are screaming, Hey, this
is the guy just yet? Yeah, you know, And I would even
throw Jakwon McMillan out there if youknow, if dever comes out in their
base, I think you know,he may start. If they're not having
(05:20):
a nickel or dime, then Ithink you can see him start on the
outside. I think he's very capableof that. Obviously he's established himself in
the nickels. In that case,I think we're looking at those three guys
tomorrow, Mattis, Riley Moss andobviously, Leevi Wallace gotta watch a little
bit of Levi Wallace on the youknow, I just started, you know,
I've been in New York in thepast couple of weeks, but I
just started the Receiver series on Netflix, and of course against Devanta Adams and
(05:43):
the Raiders, he comes up withan interception you know, in that game
that they had there, So II think, right now they have options.
And look, even Chris Abrams Drainis a name that I think is
going to be thrown into the nextyear, a guy who could play inside
outside. I think right now that'sa and even our Green I'm throw an
autiable mention to arguing I really likedwhat I saw from him and OTAs.
I just think you have a lotmore bodies, there are a lot more
(06:05):
comfortability than it just I think lastyear the whole planet was going to be
Riley Moss versus Demari Mathis. Bothguys got hurt in trading camp for the
first two weeks, so that reallykind of impacted them and led to them
bringing in Fabian Moreau, and Ithink that were just a little more deeper
now. So I think it's reallybetween those three guys and obviously throwing in
a wild card here for Jaquan McMillan. You know, there's been a lot
(06:25):
of talk out in San Francisco aboutBrandon I Uke and Brandon finally announcing that
he wanted to trade. And Iknow Broncos fans, I mean, we
all fantasy lovers, but the wholeidea is like, oh wow, it
would be great to add Brandon IYuke to the Broncos ross. So what
do you fall on that whole ideaand concept of you know, Broncos should
(06:46):
look into trading for Brandon I YouYeah, I don't think that they should
right now. I mean, obviouslyit's the popular talking point right now,
and you know, I think there'sarguments for it, there's arguments against it,
and I think primarily right now,Denver's in a spot they're comfortable with
Courtland. I think he's obviously setto report. Tim Patrick's coming off of
an injury, but you know,he's looking in ota he's stays healthy.
(07:08):
You get a reliable guy from there, You bring in a guy and Josh
Reynolds who had a really good offseasonprovo for the team, and then now
you have a more prominent role herefor Marvin Mims, and then outside of
that, you drafted Troy Franklin, who's obviously got a lot of chemistry with
bo Nick. Right now, itdoesn't necessarily make sense for the Broncos to
make this move. I think ifyou're to make arguments for it, Okay,
well, Cortland's going to get youknow, one year left after this
(07:30):
year. Tim's on the final yearof his deal with Denver. Barbin is
still a rookie, you know,is he ready to be a premier number
one guy? And then you knowJosh Renolds, you have him obviously on
a two year deal. So thequestion is is is your receiver depth overall
good enough beyond twenty twenty four tomake a move like that. I don't
think that Denver's in a position rightnow where they want to give up capital,
and more likely, I don't thinkthey want to give up players.
(07:53):
And if you were to trade forau guy, imagine it was going to
be something along the lines of,okay, you're trading for him, but
it means that you have to extendhim right away. That part of the
deal kind of what we saw theMiami Dolphins do a Bradley Chubb I don't
think Dever's going to be doing thattalk about Cody Roar mile high Sports.
Cody the Quinn Miners got the bigdeal, four years eighty million, third
highest paid guard in the NFL.You look at the money allocated the offensive
(08:15):
line for the Denver Broncos between Bowls, Powers, Miners, and McGlinchey,
it's mega bucks. Not a lotof depth at the guard position though.
I mean, you got guard Julioo'coalvin Throckmorton backing those two up. A
lot of top end contracts on thisoffensive line? Is the pressure to produce
that much more given how much they'repouring into this Uh? You know,
I think obviously you're seeing a shiftnow, and you know you want to
(08:37):
pay your offensive line. I knowGarrett's in the final year of his deal.
McGlinchey, you got him on afive year deal, Powers on a
four and now Miners on a fouryear extension. Questions at the center position,
is it going to be Luke wattinglex for sight? You know,
I don't think there's an added amountof pressure for the offensive line. I
think they are. There's a continuitythere outside of center, right, I
(08:58):
think that's the big question mark. But do you have a guy under center
who can operate the passing game, the run game operation for you more effectively
than what Russell Wilson did last year. I think the Broncos have belief that
they gain if they do have aguy there. I do think they think
that's Nicks. I think they thinkStidham can do that for them. And
I think that matters too, becausenow you're going to see it where I
mean Dever's approach is to be lessone dimensional this year on offense. Last
(09:22):
year, a lot of teams forcedthem to throw the football, so they
sold out against the run. Ithink that's going to change this year,
and I think that Denver's got moreplaymakers offensively. I think they have quarterback
play that will be significantly better. And I do think you have some wild
cards in the running back room rightnow that could obviously change that a little
bit and make things interesting. SoI do think it will be better.
I don't think there's as much pressuremaybe as there was last year, as
(09:45):
rushers are. I believe a premiumin this league, and when you show
that you can get out after thequarterback consistently, usually a big payday comes
for you. Last season, theBroncos we're not where they needed to be
as far as being able to puta certain amount of pressure on the quarterback.
So I'll ask you, with allthe changes the Broncos and tweets they
(10:07):
may on their defensive line, giveme a guy that you think from an
edge rusher standpoint, that is poisedfor Dare I say a breakout season?
Yeah? Well, I think youknow, you look at guys who broke
out last year. I think JonathanCooper broke out. I think Nick Bonito
broke out. I see Cooper havinga good year, but I see Baron
Browning being the guy if he stayshealthy. I see him probably having the
(10:31):
most impact for the Broncos and reallyhaving that year if he can stay healthy
where it's like all right, youdon't have questions about it. You know,
he's one of them. I thinkhe's probably the most talented pass rusher
from an overall standpoint on the team. I think Nick Benito comes in second
of that Jonathan Cooper. I mean, it's really hard to place a number
of these guys. I think theirtop four pass rusher is really already set
in terms of edge rusher, ButI think Baron Browning is more so in
(10:52):
line for a bigger year. Ifeel like there's a little bit more pressure
on Baron this year because of theinjuries that he's had in the last couple
of years. You know, Cooper, You're you know, hey, we've
gotten production out of him, butNito, He's gotten production out of him.
If anyone I think is competing tohave the most pressure on him,
it's going to be Barren, andI think he will respond in a big
way. I think he's arguably themost talented player. Like I said,
(11:13):
you know under the Raider on defense, had a great offseason of corn to
Sean Payton fully healthy right now.To me, I'm gonna go with Browning
in this situation as we look aheadto a crowded running back room. Blake
Watson goes on the NFI, butit still feels like there's an odd man
out between Javonte Williams, Magic pRyan Alder, GUESTI May and Julia McLoughlin.
Estimate, of course, had theinjury, but he's supposed to be
(11:33):
good to go. McLoughlin has bulkedup a little and looked looks pretty good.
Davonte obviously had the miraculous recovery fromthe injury that he did so magic.
P Ryan to me feels like theodd man out. I understand that
he was Sean Payton's guy out ofthis room, but and certainly was the
third down guy last year, butthere were the fumbles, wasn't as productive
running the football as you as youwould have liked, and obviously the money
(11:54):
factor here. How are we thinkingthis running back room shakes out? Yeah,
you know, I think there's somecredits to that, you know,
I think I'm waiting to hear.Obviously, I think we'll find out next
week. Is the media barbecue whathappened with Blake Watson and if I means
just happened away from the team facility, not in the structure of practice,
even though we know rookies reported thisweek, so very curiousity about that,
and obviously hope he's okay. Ithink it's gonna be Javonte Jalil and estimate
(12:20):
on a roster this season. Look, never may carry an extra guy.
I mean, I think a lotdepends on the kickoff rules, kick return
rules. Who they envisioned back there. Don't think you want to put Jaalil
back there. I think you couldsee a guy like Blake Watson maybe factor
into that, but I think primarilyit's gonna be receivers who are gonna do
that. So yeah, I thinkin terms of Demaje Pier and obviously he
was big for the Broncos as apass catcher on third down last year,
(12:41):
a good majority of his catches movethe chains, kept drives alive and clutch
situations. Not a big sample sizein terms of running, but you mentioned
the fumbles, You mentioned some ofthose moments there. I don't think it's
ever got enough out of the investmentof him really outside of the passing game.
Like obviously he contributed big time there, but he didn't give you much
in terms of the run game.Wasn't a prominent feature guy in the run
game For the offense you need that. So I think because of that,
(13:05):
and obviously, as you mentioned thefinancials the contract, dever could save money
by releasing him. I think that'sgoing to be the more likely the area
you can see Jubonte, Jamil andAudrick estimate. I think as the three
backs on the roster this year, let's stick with the secondary really quickly.
I mean, there's been some changesthis offseason and that leadership and it's going
to be really key heading into theseason. So now you have Brandon Jones
(13:30):
and PJ Lot I mean, twonames that we haven't really spoke about in
the past couple of years as beingthe starting safeties for the Denver Broncos.
No Justin Simmons. What type ofimpact, if at all, will that
have with the secondary of this season? Well, I think you might see
some moments where the secondary has youknow, a couple of plays given up,
and I think you're gonna see peoplesay, oh, why did they
(13:52):
get rid of Justin Simmons. Imean, you know, this is a
nucleus has taken over. PJ dida great job stepping in. There's a
lot of compt into him. BrandonJones obviously can play middle of the field,
being played in the box, didn'thave doesn't have much of a history
in terms of being able to bea consistent cover guy. I think that's
just part of how Brian Flores usedhim in Miami. I think last year
with Vick he saw a little bitmore in terms of how he used him,
(14:15):
rolling him down in the box, being able to play that robber role.
But under Vance Joseph's scheme with JimLeonard's direction as a passing game and
coordinator, these guys are gonna haveto play the middle of the field,
They're gonna have to play down inthe box. They're gonna have to do
a lot of different things. AndI'd also think Kayten's turns. You have
two guys in that room right now. Caten's obviously coming off the Pateeller tendon
surgery, and I think he's expectedto ready to go for the start of
(14:35):
training camp, though I think theteam will be smart with him. Two
guys that have benefited from the leadershipof Kareem Jackson and Justin Simmons, and
those guys I think are more thanready. They're more than capable to take
the mantle. Though. I thinkit's gonna, you know, be a
little bit of an adjustment period tostart, but I'm not significantly worried about
it. Ty Cody Roark Wild ISports really quick, Cody, have you
(14:56):
played the new college football video game? I have. It's been It's been
fun. I mean, obviously, you know, working on Team Builder that
just dropped tonight, you know, you know, kind of staying busy.
I tell you what, though I'mhaving a hard time against some of these
other teams, like the FCS teams, Like it's a different animal and angles
I think in terms of like Ilike to play a lot as a defensive
(15:18):
backs, So if you take thewrong angle, you're going to get,
you know, outran by a receiveron a crossing pattern. I mean,
that's the hard part. I dida little bit of the Road to Glory
as a cornerback. It's the hardestI think position to play so far in
that mode because just the cameras, the angles that you have, it just
doesn't benefit the user experience the wayI wanted it to. So I'm enjoying
it. I know you kind ofyou're the coach. You took up a
(15:41):
coaching gig. I here with Army. Yeah, I you know, I'm
a triple option guy. Possession, possession the football. And Nick is like
a popleptic that a I don't passthe ball and I will possess I will
possess the ball for eighteen minutes ofa twenty minute game. And uh,
you know, so he's furious aboutthe way that I play, Uh,
the way that I play play thegame man, I mean played at Georgia
Tech. You know how they playtoo. I mean that I would have
(16:03):
thought he would have been in forit Georgia Tech alone. I didn't.
I don't. I didn't like thatwhen Paul Johnson was there because guess what,
when you're running the ball like that, it brings down the value your
wide receiver because everyone thinks, like, okay, well they can't run around.
Don't even recruit wide receivers anymore. That's the problem to get the call,
That's what they say. Oh,appreciate Cody. We have to look
(16:23):
up and play a game here soon, and I'll h I'll just make Nick's
eyes bug out of his head asI I just keep running the ball.
Gentlemen, I appreciate you. Guys. Thank you so sorry. But take
care. It's Cody Rourke, mylife sports. When we come back the
NFL six Pack Broncos Country tonight thetwenty twenty five minutes here before we give
(17:02):
way to the ABC News coverage ofthe Republican National Convention tonight. I believe
it's the final night of the convention. I know they had Hulk Hogan speaking,
so that happened two million Hawkhim inthe eighties, he had the bandana
on like, bro, you ain'tfulling anybody. We saw that head back
in the eighties. We know what'sunder there. We know what's under there.
(17:23):
Bro. Oh my goodness, fivesix six nine. There By the
way, we did have a textext message said, okay, he does
sound like Adam Schefter, agreeing withme on Cody Rourke, just saying I'm
around Cody at practice as am.I I'm telling you, sounds like Adam
Scheft. I I don't everyone butme, I just don't hear it.
You're the one. Maybe you knowwhat you need to do. Right,
(17:45):
drink a six pack. It's timefor the NFL six path. I'm going
to insight and insight information you can'tfind anywhere else. No. Six the
top six NFL headline what Terrell Owenssaid He tried to come out of retirement
with the Buccaneers, but Tom Bradydisrespected him. When Antonio Brown promptly left
(18:08):
the Bucks during the twenty twenty oneseason, they could have used a veteran
wide receiver for the playoffs. TarrellOwens wrote on social media at the time
that he was that wide receiver. Two and a half years later, Owens
is blaming Tom Brady for not signinghim. Owens on the Bubba Dub Show,
never heard of that that he attemptedto contact Brady to ask for a
chance to play for the Bucks inthe playoffs, and Brady ignored him.
(18:30):
Owen said, quote, Tom Bradyignored me the year that AB went crazy.
They just needed somebody to fill theholes and they be leaving at the
receiver position. I reached out tohim through Randy and some people, just
to come in and play third down, red zone situations. Dude ignored me.
Just goes to show the lack ofrespect there. But when they get
in front of you, they wantto act like they respect you. At
the time, Owens was forty eightyears old and hadn't played in the NFL
since he was cut up for threeweeks of training camp with the Seahawks a
(18:52):
decade earlier. Probably less that Bradydidn't respect Owen's achievements, and more than
Brady didn't want to waste time duringprayoff preparation talking to someone had probably no
chance of making the roster. DidTom Brady disrespect Terrell Owens by not taking
his call? No, he didnot, But I mean, I know
Tarot is gonna feel that particular way. But for Brady, he's thinking,
(19:12):
okay, well, already have asituation with ab and we know some look
at Tarot in a particular way andthinking like he's somewhat of a diva.
So he didn't want to take oneguy out and then sort another. Listen,
I know Tarol very well and doeshe have that different approach to the
(19:33):
game that's different than some of thereceivers that you will like. Absolutely,
But he's been at the top ofhis game, so you expect for him
to look at himself in that particularway. But if he ever wants to
do now, he trains even nowlike he could go out there and play
two. Jacksonville Jaguars has put somethingtogether for the thirtieth season here in twenty
twenty four. Jags announced on todaythis morning actually that they'll be wearing their
(19:59):
nineties style Prowler throwback jerseys for theirWeek five matchup with the Colts. Not
sure that i'd use that name thosedays, but if they want to use
their Prowler uniforms, so bit Formerhead coach Tom Kauflin will be inducted into
the Pride of the Jaguars that Ringof Fame during that game as well everywhere
I go. In very comment I'veread, it's apparent our fans are longing
to see Jaguars players and throwback uniforms. That's via Jags president Mark Lamping.
(20:21):
Their persistence paid off. Our uniformsreminiscent of the team's early years are backed
by popular demand, just in timefor the thirtieth season and our inaugural our
induction of our inaugural head coach TomCoughlin. The Jaguars were the original uniforms
from their inaugural season in nineteen fiveand ninety five all the way up till
two thousand and nine. This versionof the throwbacks will also include the team
wearing the original helmet logo that wasfeatured from ninety five to twenty thirteen.
(20:47):
Jacksville bade the announcement with the socialmedia video featuring former Jags right tackle Leon
Cercy and current safety Andre Cisco incornerback Tyson Candla. How do you feel
about the Jags throwback uniforms? Yeah, I like that idea and like the
concept that they're playing homage to yesteryearand if it's perfectly I mean, if
(21:07):
Tom Kaughlin is going into the Ringof Fame. It makes sense. It's
no different than what the Broncos aregoing to do against the Raiders when you
know, you think about Steve Foleyand Randy Gratishow, So it makes sense.
It's ideal, and it definitely allowsorganization to sell more jerseys well,
and that's the key point right three. Long time NFL wide receiver Randall Cobb
(21:30):
didn't formally announce his retirement this offseason, but it looks like he's moving on
in the next phase of his life. ESPN announced today the Cob will work
as a studio analyst for the SECNetwork during the falls college football season.
Cobb was a two time old SECplayer at Kentucky before entering the NFL as
a Packer second round pick back intwenty eleven. The quote, I'm incredibly
excited to be coming home to theSEC with this new role, level of
(21:52):
greatness this conference provides a year afteryears unmatched. I cannot wait to return
to the conference family with this SECNetwork crew. COB's been eight years of
the Packers and returned for two moreafter Stintson Dallas in Houston for the Jets
last year. He has five hundredand thirty two catches, which ranks fifth
and Packers history six hundred and thirtycatches for seventy six hundred and twenty four
yards fifty four touchdowns in his career. If this was it for Randall Cobb,
(22:15):
it's a pretty good career. Hewas electric in the SEC at Kentucky
where he played quarterback, receiver, kick returner, punt returner. He was
a doing all kind of guy fora Kentucky was an absolute star when he
played. I think this would bea natural home for him. Yeah,
this is great for Cobb. Itis kind of a natural transition for guys
now. And I know, eventhough he said it was being said that
(22:36):
he hasn't officially retired, I wouldsay that he has now if someone can
call and he entertained the idea andthe concept. But I think I like
random Cobb at this stage of hiscareer in the booth. I mean,
he'd be a fine addition to thecoverage on the SEC network or The Dolphins
(22:56):
placed a pair of pass rushers ontheir physically unable to Perform list today.
The team announced that Jalen Phillips andformer Bronco Bradley Chubb have both landed on
the list, not a surprise ineither case, as Chubb is working his
way back to the torn acl andPhillips is recovering from a torn achilles.
Both players can be activated at anytime, but the injuries came late in
the twenty twenty three seasons, sothey may not be cleared to go before
the start of the regular season.Linebacker Cameron Good and offensive line of Isaiah
(23:19):
Win also on the list. Goodended last season with on the IR with
a knee injury, while Win wason the list due to a quad issue.
Rightmick Salvin Ahmed is on the nonfootball injury list. He could also
be activated at any point. Whatdo we think about Bradley Chubb's post Broncos
career, Well, it was alwaystough when you go to a different team,
especially when you get paid a boatloadof money. Expectations go up,
(23:42):
but the injuries can dureau players fromreaching their full potential. Every player has
gone through it at some point oranother, but I don't think it's time
to I guess Cat's doubt on BradleyChubb. I know, being here in
Denver, whole idea you go,Bradley Chubb Josh Allen to me, I
(24:03):
don't like that argument because quarterbacks saysthe ball in every single play, so
it's not a fair judgment. ButI'm praying that he is healthy, he
goes out and have a successful year, because that's the only thing that matters
at the end of the day.Yeah, I'm with you on that one.
Five injuries. This one's a fakeone. A lingering knee injury to
Saints offensive tackle Ryan Ramchack is goingto cause him to miss the start of
(24:25):
the regular season, likely a lotmore. New Orleans announced on their social
media this morning that the club hasplaced him on the reserve pop list.
This means ramcheck will be out forat least a minimum of the first four
games of the season. However, multiple reporters on the Saints beat noted Ramchacks
unlikely to play at all in twentytwenty four. Back in March, head
coach Dennis Allen said Ramchack's availability forthe regular season remains to be seen.
(24:48):
After the offensive tackle that undergone offseasonsurgery to address a knee issue that's sidelined
him for five games. Saints addressedoffensive tackle in the draft by selecting Talisi
Fuaga at number fourteen overall. Ramscheck started one hundred and one game since
the Saints selected a number thirty twooverall in the twenty seventeen draft. Additionally,
New Orleans placed tight in Juwan Johnson, defensive Nano Kanan and linebacker Nephie
(25:11):
sewele I get that name wrong everytime, and defensive end Chase Young on
the active POPP list. They canall return to practice at any time before
the start of the season. ReceiverChrys Olave also placed on the NFI list.
Per Nick Underhill, Olave is dealingwith mild back tightness and should be
just fine. Ryan Ramschak possibly missingthe season would be huge for the New
(25:33):
Orleans Saints. Yeah, definitely hugebecause going into any season, you definitely
want to make sure that your quarterbackis protected. And Derek Carr didn't have
a great season as though most thoughthe would playing for the New Orleans Saints
and thirty one sacks last season.Thirty one sacks. You can't really have
(25:53):
that happening with your quarterback and hopeto have a successful season offensively or from
a team standpoint, that could help. Having a new OC Clint Kubiak there
that could change things where we seemaybe Derek Carr using more of his athleticism
to get outside of the pocket tocreate some passing lanes on the outside.
But anytime you lose a guy likeRamcheck and his reputation, it is difficult
(26:18):
for your offense. Yeah, andhe was. It's interesting because that year
it was a sort of coin flip. As some people preferred Garrett Bowles,
some people prefer Ryan Ramchack, andearly on in their careers it looked like
a Ramchack was wildly out playing Bulls. But as the careers have gone on,
Bowls has been I would say asgood and certainly as available as as
(26:41):
Ramcheck. And now he's he Bowlsbe playing the season, Ramcheck quite likely
won't six. Gino Smith is excitedby what Ryan Grubb is bringing to the
Seahawks. They have a new offensivecoordinator in Seattle and his name is Ryan
Grubb obviously was the offensive coordinator forthe Washington Huskies. Last year. Will
be Gino Smith's seventh OC since heentered the league in twenty thirteen. Smith,
(27:02):
who's thirty four, seen at alllearning another playbook probably isn't a big
deal. The good thing for meis I like to learn. Smith told
Paul Sylvie of King five in Seattle. I like to study, so that's
something I have to do on adaily basis. Does help repetition always going
to be the father of learning. So for me, it's just about continuing
to do the little things like writingnotes, taking detailed notes, just being
on top of it every single day, really paying attention every single thing Grub
says, and just the way hewants things done. Gros history in the
(27:25):
college ranks has Smith excited about howthe offense will translate to the NFL.
Under Grubb, the University of Washingtonand ranked fifth in the FBS in total
offensive yards. Huskies were first inpassing with Michael pennockx junior at the quarterback
position. Smith has made consecutive ProBowls in his first two seasons as the
Seahawks starter. How do we feelabout Ryan Grubb jump into the NFL and
(27:45):
does that system work in the NFL? It was a system in college that
played a lot to the white sideof the field. Get your grub ong.
You've been waiting for that line.Yes, I was. That's basically
what Gino Smith is thinking. Look, it was enough to get Michael Pennis
Junior actually drafted by the Atlanta Falcons. So it did something. And look
(28:10):
you look at Roma DUNESA right alsowent to Washington put up big numbers.
If you're dk Metcalf, you're thinking, okay, well last year was a
little disappointing for me. Now thisoffense can get back in the float and
they're going to push the ball downthe field in a vertical passing game.
Now there is going to be somewhatof a learning curve with Ryan Grubbs as
(28:33):
the guys try to learn the system. But this could be the best thing
that happened to Geno Smith because hewas one of those guys that people kind
of threw away and kicked him tothe curb. But he revitalized his career,
you know. And you know,I guess what they called that to
Emerald City. I guess what theycalled Seattle something like that. Yeah,
it's it was fascinating the comeback story. I think that did Gino kind of
(28:55):
had because he was for all intentsand purposes, I mean, he was
done, you know, in theNFL, and then all of a sudden
he gets his chains and man,all of a sudden, he just lit
it back up. He was theguy everybody wanted to be when he came
out of college. And what agreat feel good story. Real quick,
I had an extra one here onthe six pack. I don't know if
you saw this or not, buthave you seen this thing where NFL stars
are getting together in June to playchess? I'm sorry, NFL, A
(29:18):
bunch of NFL players are getting togetherin June to play chess. They're having
like a chess tournament. Have youseen this? No? I have have
not. Who's organizing this? Well, Amari Cooper started it. Of people,
Yeah, Kyler Murray was at theone. He lost to excuse me,
he beat Amari Cooper. This wasback in June twenty second. Wouldn't
(29:42):
have been an unusual on a Sundayfor Murray to compete against Michael Parsons or
Cooper to match which with chatobia woesday. But when these ballots kicked off on
a Saturday evening in June, thesecond highest ranked eighteen year old chess player
in the country was there looking onand marveling. This chess world's its own
little bubble. But I guess it'syou know, it's kind of bursting out
(30:03):
NFL stars playing chess is anything new. Baltimore Ravens lineman John Ursley used to
play it. Deshaun Watson obviously playsit. You know, chess, which
has been around for fourteen hundred years, is considered a mind game to you
know, to keep people sharp. But rarely do do four players who play
four different positions on four different teamsconvene for an in person over the board
tournament, as they did in thisone Brown's quarterback doory in tops of Robinson.
(30:26):
Melvin Gordon was there. You know, rarely our chess tournament staged in
an arena capable of holding two thousandspectators, and yet Amari Cooper's got them
coming to the table and doing this. Cooper said to Diahu Sports, I
want to bring more attention to chessso that I could have more people to
play against. I can't think ofmany things that I can do for hours
at a time that I really enjoyeddoing. Cooper first drove his Lamborghini into
(30:48):
a suburban townhouse complex in twenty twenty. The fourteen year old's parents were understandably
wary. What was a Cowboys playertwelve years their son seen or really just
driving to the neighborhood Cards and nowblefor chess lessons. But Devis Barroff,
a ninth grader on the verge ofattaining chess's Expert National Master rating, told
his mom he was going to coachhim, and he did so. First
(31:10):
she googles him and all that. And then the Raiders traded Cooper to the
Cowboys in twenty eighteen, and hewas much less eager to leave the chess
community that he'd founded there, sohe started a on a spontaneous FaceTime call.
They realized they got together this wholetournament thing, and now four years
later they have this tournament in Junewhere NFL players show up to play chess.
You know, I like this wholeidea because usually we hear a lot
(31:33):
about the Madden tournaments, right, and of the things that the guys can
do on the off season. Thisis a great thing because like living in
New York and playing in New Yorkin my early years, you go to
a local park, you see oldermen and some younger men out there playing
chess and feeding the pigeons, andyou know, they say, chess is
(31:56):
a thinking man's game, and whenyou think about football, you're constantly thinking
about what's the next move and howto anticipate. So that can help a
lot of these players as far astrying to think three steps ahead, because
that's what you do in the chess. But it also and will translate to
learning a new system for the firsttime, because for me, anytime I'm
(32:17):
learning a new system, I breakit down in concepts, trying to make
the concepts actually relate. So Ilike this story about the guys putting together
somewhat of a tournament that they're playingchess, not checkers. Do you play
chess? No? I do not. I want to learn how to Maybe
they'll greater here that you teach mehow to play. See, I don't
(32:38):
know about that. No, no, no. See the way that you
looked when you said that I canteach you. It's not a sinister look,
right, and it's just like youmay not teach me all the nuances
of the game, just so youcan say, hey, Nick, now
that I've taught you, now let'splay a game exactly. Would I would
(33:00):
do that? And uh I woulddo that, Madden, I would never
do that. I would never woulddo Yes, I I enjoy I do
enjoy playing chess. I haven't playedit as much in the recent last three
or four years. Prior to COVID, I was. I was actually a
pretty active chess player, you know, the rating and all that kind of
stuff. But I yeah, II just enjoyed the game. It's fun.
It's fun to probably love to I'llbring a boarder, pare teacher to
play. We'll put a board uphere that way, anybody can play whenever
(33:21):
they come in COVID. You playedchess. I used to more of a
checkers guy. Yeah, that soundsabout right. I feel I feel like
you are a checkers dude, likeyou probably rule at the checkerboard too.
I suck at checkers, by theway, I suck at it really so
bad. I would think that becausesomeone is good at chess does not translates
(33:43):
checkers. I'm off checkers. It'snot the same thing. It's not the
same thing. No, no,no, win. Well, you're always
trying to win. I'm trying towin it everything exactly. I'm trying to
win it. Sleep. Yes,I'm just saying it everything closed off that
you know, who's that having thisconversation with or a good buddy, our
(34:05):
buddy Eric Goodman. I was havinga conversation with him the other day.
I talked about that. We're talkingabout do you like to win more,
hate to lose more? And I'mlike, oh, I'm hate to lose.
Lose. That's right, hate tolose. We hate to lose,
you guys, but we gotta goout to ABC News coverage of the Republican
National Convention right here on Koway.Appreciate you guys being along for Broncos Country tonight.
