(00:00):
You always know when Coover's back incontrol of the music. Broncos Country tonight
right here on KA fifty ninety four. We had earlier, we had President
Joe Biden's remarks on his dropping outof the race, and obviously we carried
his his speech here at KOA.If you guys want to listen to that,
you can go back. I'm sureto get all that. We are

(00:21):
going to continue on with Broncos Countrytonight here, however, Uh, and
today was the first day of trainingcamp, nick only the holiest day of
the year. Yeah, it was. And uh is it officially the first
day though, because there was novomiting and there was no fighting. No,
see, the first day of trainingcamp officially starts next week. When
the pads come on, right, that's Saturday? Is it Saturday? I

(00:44):
think so? Okay, So wheneverthe pads officially come on, to me,
that's the sign of training camp.Because you know that there are so
many guys competing for jobs. There'sa lot of positional battles that everyone's going
to be paying attention to, andbecause of that, you get the temperature
is hot. Family is out there, fans are out there, I mean

(01:06):
timbers are going to start to flareand someone's gonna fall, Like, hey,
listen, you wrong me because youfalse started and you beat me on
this play and you made me lookbad. So now I gotta get some
get back. And here we go. And you saw some of that detections,
yes, yes, And you think, and I know as fans think,
like, well, why would teammateswho are expected to depend on one

(01:27):
another for wins and losses, andyou know that, you know your incentives
and coaches salaries all way heavily onit, why would they fight one another?
Because half those guys aren't gonna bethere. They're not going to be
your teammates ninety guys on the fieldthat a fifty three man roster have.
Those guys aren't going to be there, and some of them are scrapping to
try to elbrow the way onto thatand maybe elbowed a little too hard.

(01:49):
Well may think, right, Also, no one wants to be embarrassed,
right, No one wants to beembarrassed. No one as though it can't
happen because in my day's plan forBill, for ourselves, I'm not saying
Bill is has ever instigated a fight, but I'll say he's never sped it,
he's never stopped it. Because whathe would do like he would just

(02:13):
sit back and it was almost like, well, we're gonna I'm gonna let
them work this off. And thenafter that he would be like, oh,
you guys have that much energy thatyou practice, like, you know
what the first half we got aheill right here, we can run.
Yes, So now it's like, okay, strap it up. Since you
guys want to air your grievances, why don't we go ahead and do some

(02:35):
like nine oh seven. And it'sjust like, oh boy, now you
don't turn the volume into three sixtyfive because you don't take the took a
bunch that was already at each other'sthroat and then you threw them in live
nine oh seven, and let metell you it never worked well. No,
just to say after I can rememberyou know that was the first thing
to coach. Coach, let youfight it out and got man, you
guys got a ton of energy. You know what that means? We need

(02:55):
to run more gassers on the hill. And you're just like, oh my
good, you really and then thenyou know, the locker room discipline taste
care of itself. Because y'all areyou know, don't fight you more so
we don't have to run like this. Right then, what happens sometimes is
happened in college, well well prettymuch on every level of play. If
a fight actually took place, itwas always you have enough energy, So

(03:16):
let's start to period over right now. You're not gonna go through every single
thing because you had rules and youdon't want to violate any rules or what
have you. But the coach wouldstart things over or there would be more
more gases. But it's great.Football is back, and we get a
chance to see a lot of guyscompete for jobs. There's some new faces

(03:38):
and some new places, and weget a chance to see if those guys
can live up to the guys whopreviously held that position before them. Yeah,
and I'm looking forward're gonna be gettinginto a lot of that over the
course of the evening, five six, six nine zeros of text line the
three H three says love your show. B C T bros Nick. I'm
a Toronto transplant from at Toe BayCoke. I'm not really sure ironounce that

(04:00):
what E T O B I CO K E. I'm not sure you
pronounce it? Okay, transplant fromthere since ninety five, But a Broncos
fanly before that had a question. We always hear the Denver sports fans are
insatiable for info. We have alarge media presence or rabbit about hounding management
for answers, even more so thanmaybe markets like New York, Boston,
LA reporters. Why do you thinkthat is true about our flyover Cowtown?

(04:24):
And I would say, first ofall, I don't think we're as rabbit
as New York. New York's adifferent animal. You've obviously you've been on
the other side. They different animals. Yeah, but I know people have
worked at market. I would saythat that's I'm not sure that's the way
I would say I the other way. The reasons I would say that that
is the case though, because thereis a large media contingent here relatively speaking,
is the Broncos were so successful forso long. First of all,

(04:46):
regionally, there's no competition. Youknow, the only the only team with
a with a state that touches thisArizona touch Colorado, because I mean the
only state that seems to touch Coloradothat even has a football team would be
what Arizona. That's the closest.I think that's the closest regional that's the
closest regional team to the Denver Broncos. So there's there's nothing, I mean,

(05:10):
regionally, there isn't anything, ohby the way, the Broncos,
I mean outside of CU back inthe in the nineties for a while,
there hasn't really been too much othercompetition. A little bit of hockey competition
in there. The basketball team onlyrecently got you know, got very good,
so there hasn't been another competition withother sports either. So the Broncos

(05:30):
have been the only game in townfor a long time now. They've been
down for about a decade post SuperBowl. But you know, I think
that's part of the reason. Ithink they were so successful for so long
that that that became the thing herein Denver. Everything else was off season
filler until you got to Broncos season. Yeah, when you think about the
Mountain area, the surrounding states havemaybe pro basketball or college basketball, they

(05:56):
don't have a professional NFL team likeArizona they do. But well, you
just think about the comparison of theDenver Broncos organization to the Arizona Cardinals.
There there is no comparison. Sothe whole idea of the Broncos fan base
just expanding for the five states. That's why the coverage is what it is.

(06:20):
This is why you have those diehardindividuals. I guess technically, like
the lower right corner of Colorado touchesTexas, but it's a long way till
you get to the Texas football team. The closest football team is Arizona Cardinals,
right, yeah, but there's theclosest one. Yeah, as to
say, and there's like a twostate buffer everywhere for any other team.
I mean, Kansas City Chiefs wouldbe the next closest team. That's your
rival. And then I mean, you don't have anything in any of these

(06:43):
other states, certainly not you know, Nebraska, South Dakota, Montana,
North Dakota, Idaho, Utah,Divida. I mean you don't. But
here's the Las Vegas Raiders. Now. But here's the biggest thing. Everyone
loves the winner. Right, Evenwhen John Elway went to those Super Bowls
and he lost, at least theywent That's what Broncos country fans could actually

(07:05):
say to other teams. At leastwe were there in the dance. You
guys were sitting on the sofa watchingand that is the thing that helped propel
the Broncos to where they are asfar as being a large brand, like
when you when you travel not justoutside of the state, but outside of
the country and you have an enormousfan base, that tells you about your

(07:30):
level of popularity, and that popularitygoes back to how well your teams have
performed. Yeah, Denver's is oneof the, if not the most popular
NFL football team in Mexico. Don'ttell Jerry Jones that, But Denver is
not a is not a Colorado footballteam. They're a regional football team.
Yes, you know, like Isay, Wyoming, Utah. You know
a lot of these states and peopleare listening right now. Yeah, Idaho,

(07:55):
Kansas is fairly depending on which wayyou go about our Kansas. That's
Dallas, Tennessee, Dallas Cowboys state. They tried to make it a Tennessee
Titan state and it is not.It is a Dallas Cowboys state. But
I'm just saying, like there's halfof Kansas, Nebraska, North, South,
Dakota, Montana, Wyoming. Ithink most of those are Broncos country.

(08:16):
You know, that's what we callit. Broncos country. You know,
some of that. Kansas City hasestablished a larger footprint in recent years,
but still the Broncos in terms ofregional footprint probably have the largest land
mass in terms of you know wherefans uh, you know kind of come
from regionally. So I think alot of that has to do with that.
But that's why the expectations are alwayshigh, maybe with the exception of

(08:41):
this year for the obvious things, but in my day playing here with the
team, the expectations were all tenderhigh. It was contender or bust,
right, And that's where I'm hopingthe Broncos can get back to, even
though I know when you look atthe the odds four and thirteen, that's

(09:03):
the ceiling for this team this year. But I was talking to someone today
at practice and I told them,if I'm one of the players on the
team, I let that burn in, I let that upset. Oh we
got that posted everywhere, right, and also with no one expecting you to
be the team, now you needto go out there and punch people in
the face, not literally forguratively space. No no, no, no,

(09:24):
We're not physical. Just go outthere and just play your behinds off.
Yeah, well, I mean,we'll see what it is with a rookie
quarterback this year, but so he'snot a rookie. With the traffic staring
Copeland, some people call coover thespace cowboy. Nick ferguson Gangster Love,

(10:05):
I have been not to check intoa hotel under the name Maurice. I
love this song. Just got thatgood summertime vibe. You know that that
Wow? What is that anyway? What do you mean that sound? Well,
what instrument is that? That's probablyguitar. That's the guitar, I
think. So no, if somebody, if somebody can correct me on that,
if it were to like everybody's beencorrecting me on Texas not touching Colorado,

(10:28):
that is correct. It's actually theOklahoma Panhandle rut waiting. So I
couldn't remember off the top of myhead, and I was like, I've
made that drive before, and Iknow I was right into Texas, but
I forgot there was a little momentwhere I was in Oklahoma. So that's
on me. Okay, to yourdefense, I'll say this, Texas is
the largest state in these United States, so I can see why you probably

(10:52):
thought that you know Denver and youknow Texas kind of intersected because that's a
long drive. Yeah, I drove, Ah, I drove from Denver to
Mobile, Alabama, Senable. Whathappened to, uh getting on faster airplane?
Well, I for a while there, I was trying something new every
year. One year I took thetrain. Uh, one year I took
a bus. That was the biggestmistake in my life. I took.

(11:15):
I took obviously planes of you knowthat that kind of thing, and so
I wanted to drive it since I'dnever driven it myself. And yeah,
that was uh lengthy. I stopped. I think I stopped in Dallas.
That made it in like two daysto stop in Dallas. I could have
driven it all the way, butI'm not that adventurous. I'd rather get
on the airplane and give me therefaster fair. I just you know,
I wanted to try something different. You know, that was my thing that

(11:35):
you're now now. I just flied. Yeah, unless there are some delays
and cast relations then yeah. Yeah. In these days the airport game five
six six nine zeros in text linestation from Utah, I was wondering if
we ever came up and nickname forRiley Moss, I still haven't, but
I'm working on it. I'll getthere. The uh from from Toronto.
Uh got the pronunciation for me,it's e to Baco West Toronto suburbs e

(12:00):
Tobaco. Yeah, that's a newone for me. I didn't know anything
about it. So now I do. We have a big show tonight.
Parker Gabriel is gonna join us topthe eight o'clock hour. We're gonna get
our training camp observations uh here inin the next hour. I think there
are some things that I definitely wantto get to right off the top.
Maybe the the demise of certain runningbacks may have been overstated, you know.

(12:24):
And and so uh, we'll getan update on all Galaxy tight end
Lucas Kroll was an inside joke there, but I I yeah, sorry,
I've done I'm sorry on that one. Sorry, we'll get we'll get to
do it with all the tight ends, dropman Greg Dulcie, updates on how

(12:46):
all of them are doing. Uh, plus you know, Nick and and
mine observations for uh for being outthere, and and go from there.
So uh, I think that Ithought it was a pretty good day.
I mean, obviously no pads, but I thought it was a pretty good
acclimatization day or whatever you call it. For the first day. We did
get in there a half hour late. It was a very short practice relatively

(13:09):
speaking. Well, it was shortfar as what we saw. Well,
I mean they were stretching when wegot in and they might have been running
a little bit of stuff ahead. Is I probably kick off because we still
haven't seen the kickoffs, like theywill not let us see it. Well,
I'm getting upset. Do you blamethem? Get upset? I mean
I get upset? Well, Ilisten tomorrow you can go up to Sean
Payton and tell him how upset youare. I will. You know what

(13:31):
I will. I'll be like, listen, Sean, listen, wait,
wait, bit, I haven't seenno return yet. No based on the
prior you know, I don't saypost practice I guess, uh post yeah,
I guess, uh pre practice interview. I don't. I wouldn't encourage
that because coach Sean Payne will findthat, Uh you're not close. Then

(13:56):
yes, yes, very interesting, but uh it was ready to see them
out there today. But this repup period, it is, it's different
from like when I played and notI don't want to go you know,
be one of these you know, you know, get off my lawn type
guys. But for me, letme give you a little piece of my
experience being for the Jets. Here'swhat happens. Eight o'clock, eight thirty.

(14:20):
You stretch, the first drill outof stretch, full speed contact kickoff
Mike west Off. Yeah, that'swhat it was. They did not do
that today, No, they didn't. They didn't. Like Thank god,
the water and not just cannon. It's changed. As he progressed, we
can tell him about that when wesee him. The marketing. We hit
a break Brocoles Country the night backafter this
