(00:00):
Bring on our h K Broncos beatreporter Brandon Christaal Brandon, Uh, are
you with me on this or youwith Nick on this? You rather win
the championship or would you rather besomebody who contributed but didn't win a championship.
I'd rather win the championship. Iwant the ring, Yes, you
know, I think about I thinkabout Rusty LaRue, who you have to
dig deep into your trivia vault. But he was a quarterback, baseball player

(00:21):
and hooper at Wake Forest. Andif I'm not mistaken, I think he
has three rings with the Bulls. And I'm not sure he played a minute
in any of those finals. I'lldouble check that. But I understand what
you're what you're saying, and there'sa compelling argument both ways. But you
want to be contributors if you goall the way to the Hall of Fame,
like Hall of Famer, you knowDan Marino type, someone like that,
Charles Barkley, Karl Malone, ora guy that has a ring like

(00:45):
Zeke Naji. Right, that's Iwas like, you think Blanco Cancar cares
it's actually pronounced chaan jar. Butuh, we'll let that he played over
the minutes. I never't learned thepronunciation, and I'm not I'm not mad
at you for that. Samir Nagaanot gonna work. I'm not gonna work
here anymore. Hey, you wereup there, probably been there to practice.
Last two days we talked a littlebit more. We've seen what has

(01:07):
jumped out at you. I mean, obviously we're not in Patsy, but
what has jumped out at you sofar? There's a cclimatization period, uh,
the tempo right, because you're expectingit. And maybe it's just because
I'm not really ready for the startof football season. And maybe it's because
I'll be there at five am tomorrowand every single morning with Colorado's Morning News
out at our broadcast location there atBroncos Park, powered by Common Spirit.

(01:32):
But I was expecting it to goa little slower, and stuff is happening
fast, and I think that's excitingbecause you can't always tell when you flip
on NFL Network, ESPN or whateverand you're seeing what's going on in other
camps, you can only kind of, you know, compare it to what's
going on in front of you,and what's going on in front of us
beyond the obvious QB competition, andof course Lucas Kroll in his domination through

(01:53):
the spring and now into the trainingcamp. I'm not sure. And I'll
be in campon actually for Randy Gratischar'senshrinement next weekend, so I'll see.
I'll talk to their architects and seeif there is a Lucas Croll kind of
conversation happening about, you know,a potential area where you can honor what
will, no question be the besttight end to ever play football. Sorry

(02:14):
Gronk and Tony Gonzalez and Travis Kelce, but Lucas Crol's coming for your crown.
But until he gets there, Ithink it's the tempo is the thing
that stood out to me, andthe fact that I feel like they're not
gonna say it, but this there'salmost no scenario where we're not gonna see
bow Nick's winning the starting job.I think it becomes a question of when,
not if. Well Colin Sudden,I mean this, this guy had

(02:38):
a sensational season last year and there'sa lot of rumors and whispers as far
as what was gonna happen with Colinspecially leading up to the drive. But
he's he didn't really get a newcontract, but he's got some extra incentives.
What does it mean for the DenverBroncos and that young receiving cords who
know that Colan is around, ifonly for the season, it's I think

(03:02):
probably call me and for a youngquarterback as well, you know, if
it when it's bon Nicks or whetherit's Jared Steddham who still qualifies as a
young quarterback, or Zach Wilson. But again, I'm going to just continue
to operate under the assumption that's gonnabe Bonnicks until proven otherwise. But it's
a guy that you know, especiallyon a fifty to fifty ball or when
you're in or near the red zone, you like his chances as much as

(03:23):
really anybody in the league. Andhe's proven that. You know, he
caught ten touchdowns last year and Nick, but it wasn't like he was running
away from people, and I thinkthat's probably part of the reason that he's
still here. There weren't people beatingthe Broncos door down, not that there
weren't conversations that were had, andI got to think some real, you
know, conversations were had between heand his agent and people around the league.

(03:45):
He's kind of paid about what youwould think. Yes, to ten
touchdowns is certainly remarkable, but theydidn't come because he was just dominating.
They came because he and Russell Wilsoncould find each other when Russe was scrambling
around and hucked the ball up theBills touchdown on Monday Night football kind of
encapsulated a lot in a lot ofways of season, right because he didn't
even have eight hundred yards receiving, and you can't pay a guy north of

(04:10):
twenty million like the top receivers geton most teams, especially that those real
A one receivers are north of twentyfive. Now, that doesn't get you
over a thousand yards, and especiallybecause there were opportunities. It wasn't like
they didn't throw the ball. Andso I think that from a leadership standpoint,
we know how vocal he is,We know how much the young players

(04:30):
gravitate towards both he and Tim Patrick. And that's why I'm hopeful that Tim
Patrick continues to only make catches likehe made today, But they figure out
ways to use Tim and Cortland together. That's gonna be one of the harder
decisions. It's figuring out which sixIsh receivers you're keeping on the active roster
to start the year, especially ifTim Patrick shows enough. And Sean Payton
talked about that yesterday, right,He's like, I don't have to see

(04:51):
it every day, but I stillhave to see it, and they're not
paying him anything. But when Timwent down a couple of years ago,
I know we've talked to those guys. I had people tell me that he's
not just the heart and soul ofthat receiver room, he's a heart and
soul of their offense. If not, you know, the entire team.
And so he'd lose him for notone year, but two. Can't he
get back to anywhere close to whathe was. We're all pulling for him.
But having Courtland and Tim I thinksettles things down a little bit,

(05:14):
especially if they both can can reallycontribute and maximize whatever their skill set currently
is or whatever their physical you know, physical attributes to allow him at this
point in their careers. Yeah, but I mean, you've got a room
that looks fairly crowded when all saidand done, no doubt. You know,
Josh Reynolds was brought in, yougot Marvin Mims, Tim and Courtley,
we talked about, Brandon Johnson hascontributed, little Jordan Humphrey figures to

(05:34):
be around at some point. Youdrafted Troy Franklin, You drafted Devon Valet,
who was admittedly old for rookie.Might be asking for Joe Biden,
what advice to do it at thatadvanced age for his position. You've got
Jalen Virgil who's still trying to makethe team. Fill the dorset, David
Sales, Michael Bandiaman, we cankeep going. It feels a little crowded.
I guess the question here I'm leadingto is was there any part of

(05:55):
this that was, hey, wedon't want Courtland Sutton going to Pittsburgh to
reunite with Russ. Maybe there's someof that because you let him go and
he has another eight to ten touchdownseason, especially because we know they lost
Deontay Johnson, and you're saying, okay, well, the Steelers who under
Mike Tomlin managed to not only finishfive hundred and make the playoffs a lot

(06:15):
of years, including last year whenit was a disaster with you know,
Kenny Pickett, Mason. If Isay a disaster, but that's definitely the
worst starting quarterback situation of any ofthe fourteen playoff teams, and that's why
they think they upgraded between russ Innand Justin Field. So I think there's
some of that, and it's it'sfair market value, right He's a guy
that that had ten touchdowns and isa leader and is a big target,

(06:38):
but he's not a front line receiverright now until he proves otherwise that he
can get back to that pre aclchair form that got him into the Pro
Bowl when he was I think trendingin that direction. You know, it's
funny because when Shawn comes in,you look at Michael Thomas in recent years,
especially when he was obviously really goodand really healthy. He and Courtland
are basically the exact same size.Courtland ran a couple hundreds of a second

(07:00):
faster, but there, I mean, same height, same weight. I
know they're not the exact same player, and Michael Thomas as a hell of
a route runner, but you thoughtCourtland might be on that kind of trend,
and then the injury kind of derailedthings and quarterback situations and play calling
and all that. But I thinkit's ultimately a good thing on a team
that's certainly trending younger when you loseleaders like Josie Jewel and Justin Simmons at

(07:21):
the top of the list in termsof leadership losses on both sides of the
ball, and Russ's leadership too,for better or worse, but to have
Cortland rounds ultimately a good thing.Well, bkay, we we're up against
them, got any traffic, butwe always appreciate it. Look forward to
getting you on here more during theseason and chatted up on what these Broncos
are doing. I can't wait.I can't wait to see what Lucas Croll

(07:43):
does tomorrow. Either. Guy absolutelygonna be all staggering, laser focused at
five am. You will see methere looking forward to catch it up with
his report Downner and Broncos came outnot getting out there at five am.
That's definitely poop.
