Speaker 2 (00:00):
Welcome to it.
Speaker 1 (00:00):
Broncos Country at tonight, Benjamin Albright, Gret Smith, The Man,
the Myth, the Mustache Short Show Tonight.
Speaker 2 (00:08):
Rocky's always truncate that a.
Speaker 3 (00:10):
Little bit five six six nine Zeros text line. You
wanna get involved the conversation, Gret Smith back the mission Control.
It's an interesting day today and day two of padded
practice at Broncos training camp. The day kicked off the
former Bronco Kareem Jackson signing with the Buffalo Bills. Kjack
(00:30):
still getting work in the league. One year deal for kjack.
A lot of people out there congratulating him. We saw
Justin Simmons do that.
Speaker 2 (00:38):
PJ.
Speaker 3 (00:39):
Locke, Kareem whatever you think of him, and is a
player certainly beloved in the locker room by the players
the Denver Broncos and congratulates it to him for getting
a contract with the Bills. People have been asking me,
but a couple of other former Broncos might Purcell Justin Simmons.
I expect both those guys to be signed in the
next couple of weeks here. Percell, I think he's going
(01:00):
to UH to the AFC East, and Simmons, I think
he's going to the AFC South. I don't want to
I don't want to name teams at this point, but
I do believe that that direction both those two guys
are going, and well, you know, I think you can
figure it out from the other conversations we've had on
the year what those teams are. But I do believe
they'll be signed here shortly. It was an interesting day
(01:22):
at trading camp today. Alder Guesta May probably had the
highlight of the day. You can find the clip online,
and it felt more jarring in real time that it
really really can see from the video. But Estime got
free on a run and smacked into Omar Brown and
trucks sticked him, and it really kind of brought to
(01:43):
bear the force that alder Guesta May runs with as
he continues to get his feet under him and work
himself into the rotation a little bit.
Speaker 2 (01:51):
I think the running back room, as we've.
Speaker 3 (01:53):
Talked about for a while now, feels like Javonte, alder
Guestamey and Julia McLoughlin are probably the the big three.
And then after that, I mean, Blake Watson's somebody that
had some kick return designs on. You know, maybe when
he comes off the injured list, a bunch of p
R is here and and he's been running is kind
(02:15):
of the the RB two, but at a three million
dollar cap savings for moving on from him, it kind
of makes him feel like the odd man out in
this competition. Javanti Williams has been good, uh so far,
he's been a guy that absolutely looks like RB one here.
Speaker 2 (02:35):
I don't think there's a real competition there.
Speaker 3 (02:38):
You know, you'll get a nice change of pace from Jalil,
but you you're probably looking an eight ten touch of
game guy out of him versus you know, a more
of a bellcow type role for Javonte with outther guest
to May Vulture and up you know, short yardage stuff
and in those kinds of situations. So I think if
you are looking at how the backfield is going to
(03:00):
shake out right now, it just it just feels like
p Ryan is the odd man out now. Like cold
happened between now and the start of the season, injuries,
all that kind of stuff. So don't don't sit there
and and take that as gospel and then you know
things change. Under understand that with the caveat that this
is where it's at right now, that may not be
where it's at in a couple of weeks. And I
(03:21):
say that the preface what I want to talk about,
which is the quarterback situation. And if you have been
paying attention to my Twitter, you know you'll see.
Speaker 2 (03:34):
That I keep saying.
Speaker 3 (03:35):
You know, if if the season were to start today,
Jared Stidham is probably QB one. He he does look
more in control and command of the offense than the
other guys. He does make fewer mistakes than the other guys.
And while he's not as dynamic an athlete, doesn't have
as big an arm all that kind of stuff, he's
(03:56):
executing the offense as intended.
Speaker 2 (03:58):
And it is a schedule offense.
Speaker 3 (04:00):
So I don't you know, when I look at this,
I'm I'm not worried about bon Nicks because anytime I
say that.
Speaker 2 (04:10):
The first thing I get is pushback.
Speaker 3 (04:11):
Well, you got to start nixt or it's a boster,
you know, buddy, me bo can't beat out.
Speaker 2 (04:15):
Here instead of dude, it's two days and padded practice.
Calm down. At this point in time, you would expect.
Speaker 3 (04:23):
Jared Stidham, who has a year in this offense and
a year with these players, and a year with this
coaching staff.
Speaker 2 (04:29):
To be ahead.
Speaker 3 (04:30):
You would expect that that doesn't mean that Bonix won't
take the reins next week, next month, mid season, whenever.
And I do expect that Bonix at some point this
year will be the starter, whether that's week one or
week ten or whatever. But right now, darre it s
didnam as better command of the office.
Speaker 2 (04:46):
He just does.
Speaker 3 (04:48):
He's been practicing this offense for a year. He knows
the play calls, he knows the playbook better.
Speaker 2 (04:54):
And so I don't think that.
Speaker 3 (04:56):
We need to sit there and be clutching pearls and
be panicked and all this kind of about bo Nicks,
you know. And it's weird that the pushback that I get.
Speaker 2 (05:10):
Seems to have everybody else.
Speaker 3 (05:11):
Well, if he's not starting week one, these are wasted
remps or all, oh no, it isn't. You're trying to
develop him. You're trying to develop bo Nick's long term.
It's like cooking a turkey, you know, cook it low
and slow, and when it's ready, we'll pull it out.
We're not going to pull it out halfway through just
because the rest of the meal looks like it's going
to be done. So don't worry about when bo Nicks
(05:35):
gets in there. Bonix is going to arrive. When he arrives,
He's going to be ready when he's ready, and at
that point in time, that'll be thinking. Nobody's expecting the
Broncos to compete for a super Bowl this year. I
take that back, nobody but Steve Atwater, Ryan Edwards in
Mile High Profits, I think the Broncos are competing for
a Super Bowl this year. I believe they're going to
(05:55):
be better than what four and a half or five
and a half wins, whatever the Vegas total is right now.
I'll I think it'll be better than that. But nobody's
expecting them to compete for a championship this year.
Speaker 2 (06:03):
You know, you two with Sean Payton. You're one post
Russell Wilson.
Speaker 3 (06:08):
There's there's a bit of a rebuilt going on as
you as you're continuing to shape this roster. Nobody's expecting that.
There's no pressure. You don't need to start vote next
week one. If he's ready, do it, if he's not, don't.
It really is that simple. You don't need to throw
a baby into the pool until you're sure they're capable
of holding their breath and swimming the way out.
Speaker 2 (06:28):
Same thing with a quarterback.
Speaker 3 (06:30):
And if you want to look at the downside of
starting a quarterback too early, well just look.
Speaker 2 (06:34):
Down the QB depth chart to QB three.
Speaker 3 (06:37):
We saw what happened as Zach Wilson in New York
shattered his confidence. He's a shell of himself in terms
of what he was in college. And that's not to
say that Zach can't get better. He certainly has the
best tools of the three, strongest arm, most mobility.
Speaker 2 (06:51):
And that's not a knock on the other guys. Both
those guys have some mobility, but the Zach is wildly inconsistent.
Speaker 3 (06:59):
And you know, the furthest behind of the three, and
you know it could go any direction from here. Zach
Wilson could suddenly come on strong and take the job.
Bonnicks could get there. Jared's did them. It's just what
I'm saying when I'm saying that is the jareds Didham
just looks the most comfortable out there.
Speaker 2 (07:15):
The offense moves the best when he's out there. It
just does. And that's not again a knock on the
other guys.
Speaker 3 (07:23):
It's that they haven't had time in It's before we
start declaring busts and starters and all this kind of stuff.
Let's wait till they at least get one preseason game
under their belts. Let's at least at least give it
one preseason game before we start making sweeping generalizations about
the futures of players instead of trying to put a
(07:44):
stamp on a take after two padded practices.
Speaker 2 (07:47):
This is the problem with media. It's the problem with
this industry.
Speaker 3 (07:52):
You've got so many sites out there, between the radio
stations and the blogs and the websites, and all of
a sudden, you've got so many competing for a voice
that people will say absolute nonsense. You have to be
prisoner of the moment with a hot take talking about it.
Who's going to do this? And I said it first?
And how about you just let it play out? What's
(08:14):
the crime in that? Why don't we just talk about
what really happened, because that's interesting enough, and let it
play out.
Speaker 2 (08:20):
We don't. We don't have to have an instant conclusion,
right we don't. We don't have to have instant conclusion
right now. Books have been getting middle an end.
Speaker 3 (08:34):
So I just it frustrates me that when I try
and I try to nuance it. I try to nuance
the heck out of it now, because it's gotten to
the point where people try to twist a word to
fit whatever their preconceived narrative is.
Speaker 2 (08:45):
Anytime I tweet something that's not helping anybody.
Speaker 3 (08:52):
We can have honest discussion about what's happening without having
to label somebody a bust or the future Hall of
Famer or whatever. And you know, lucascroll stuff was kind
of funny, but you know that that moment has passed.
Speaker 2 (09:01):
Lucas is playing really well out there. By the way,
we don't have to.
Speaker 3 (09:06):
Be prisoner of the moment to have a conclusive, definitive
conclusion based on two days of padded practices and the
way the rotation is, you know, skipped a beat here
and all.
Speaker 2 (09:18):
This kind of stuff.
Speaker 3 (09:19):
At this point, Tom jaris Didham look the most in
control and command and the smoothest.
Speaker 2 (09:23):
Ben X has been second, Zach Wilson has been third.
Is it going to stay that way? Who knows? Let's
let it play out. Let's find out. And there are
other competitions to keep an eye on that are less publicized.
Speaker 3 (09:39):
The center position Alex Forthsye, I finally got some snaps
at the ones. I think that job's Wattenburg's to lose,
but I think they want to look at the other
guys too and get a good look at it. The
inside linebacker spot where you've got Jonas Griffith and Cody
Barton fighting it out for the second inside backer next
to Alex Singleton that the Broncos play a lot of
(10:01):
three four. I mean, Nicholas is pretty base now. The
other corner position opposite Sartan, and the non slot spot
where Jake UoN McMillan seems to have it locked up. Well,
you've got the Mary Matthis, Riley Moss, and Levi Wallace,
who I thought Wallace looked pretty good.
Speaker 2 (10:21):
I mean he had had a long speed that the
other two do, but he's looked pretty good.
Speaker 3 (10:25):
He's definitely got football instincts out there getting hands on
the ball. I could envision a scenario where one of
the younger guys plays corner, maybe between the twenties, and
Wallace comes in the red zone where it's you know,
it's compressed and you don't need the long speed as much.
I could envision scenarios where you know, they kind of
(10:45):
do that. Get creative with that and take advantage of
the fact that, hey, maybe he's you know, maybe this
isn't his best spot, but you get him down the
red zone where he didn't have to I didn't have
to run vertically forty yards, and you know, I did
him take chances on the football get the more turnovers.
Speaker 2 (11:01):
I think one of the biggest things for me.
Speaker 3 (11:04):
That came out of today was it's the second day
in a row where the defensive line has looked dominant
and by the way, missing arguably their best player in
John Franklin Myers, who was at a an acquaintance's funeral.
Speaker 2 (11:23):
John Franklin Myers wasn't even there, and they were still dominant.
And they are dominant.
Speaker 3 (11:34):
The defensive line has been getting the better of the
offensive line. And the thing about that is it's not
like the offensive line is terrible.
Speaker 2 (11:39):
It's not.
Speaker 3 (11:40):
The offensive line is pretty good. Garrett Bowles, Ben Powers,
Quinn Minors are pretty good. Mike mcglinchy's got some issues,
but he's a serviceable starter. The center position needs, you know,
you've got to get some you've got to get some
clarity there.
Speaker 2 (11:57):
But the offensive line is decent. It's not like it's
a bad line that you guys are taken advantage of
the new beef that they've got up front is good.
Speaker 3 (12:06):
Bringing in Malcolm Roach, Angelo Blaxon adding that to DJ Jones,
Zach Allen, and again I mentioned John Franklin Myers, who's
probably the best defensive lineman that they have, wasn't even
there today. Off the edge, You're starting to see some
(12:27):
improvement from some of the guys that they've had.
Speaker 2 (12:30):
Their eyes on for a while.
Speaker 3 (12:32):
Thomas InCom had himself a day off the edge, and
he's considered a guy who's fringe to make the roster.
When you got Baron Browning, Nick Pontito, John Cooper. The
talent level on this team is better than it was
three or four years ago. The floor of this roster
(12:56):
is better than it was a few years ago. You
may not have certain players at the you may not
have a Justin Simmons or Vaude Miller anymore, but it's
strong all the way through, and I don't think there's
too many weak links. The center position. I kind of
have an eyebrow raised a little bit. I need somebody
to come out and take that job.
Speaker 2 (13:19):
It's hard. Too many weak.
Speaker 3 (13:21):
Links, and so as we sit here and we look
at this, and we look at where this thing is going.
Speaker 2 (13:31):
Have some patients. We're too padded practices in.
Speaker 3 (13:33):
We haven't even gotten the preseason games, let alone regular
season games. And I get that we're all champion. It's
the bit I get that we're all want Bonnicks to
be the guy. And it's there is a marked difference
on the hill in terms of reaction.
Speaker 2 (13:50):
From different quarterbacks. When Zach Wilson.
Speaker 3 (13:54):
Takes off to scramble out of play, if you're like, oh,
there he goes, he's scrambled again instead of throwing the ball,
But Boone dig takes off. Everybody sa celebrate. Jared Stidham
completes a big pass. There's there's tep of applause. Bo
Nix completes a big pass and if crowd goes wild,
the crowd wants buf.
Speaker 2 (14:09):
We get it. I get it. Heck, I won bow.
Speaker 3 (14:18):
But I don't want to pull the turkey out of
the oven before it's done. So let's let it marinate.
We'll enjoy the smell. We'll get there. Whether it's week one,
week two, week four, week eight, whatever.
Speaker 2 (14:36):
We don't have to rush the thing. We've seen the
tragedy that can befall.
Speaker 3 (14:43):
We have him here, putting Zach Wilson out there too early, stunted,
if not killed his career. That's not to say he
would have been highly successful had they waited, but that situation,
you can see the confidence implode in him over time
if you go back watch the tape, and confidence is
(15:03):
such a big thing for the quarterback position.
Speaker 2 (15:07):
It rests on you. So much of the game rests
on you. You have to believe because if you.
Speaker 3 (15:12):
Don't believe in you, how do you expect to get
anybody else in huddle to believe in you.
Speaker 2 (15:18):
There is a confidence and an arrogance in playing the position,
and you have to have that. It's intrinsic. It's necessary if.
Speaker 3 (15:29):
You're going to go out and inspire the belief of
ten other men to follow you out there to accomplish
your goal, you have to believe in yourself to be
able to do it.
Speaker 2 (15:37):
Then, if you've been so beaten down.
Speaker 3 (15:38):
Because you're drowning in a situation that you weren't ready for,
that confidence erodes. I don't care how many games he
started in college. This is in Oregon, this is the NFL.
Bo Nix is going to be ready when Bodicks is
ready and we'll see it then. Marcous Country Tonight, backing
for this.
Speaker 1 (16:00):
Welcome to it, Broncos Country at Tonight. Benjamin Albright, Gret Smith,
the Man, the Myth, the mustache.
Speaker 2 (16:06):
I'm down here. Bronco's Park, powered by Common.
Speaker 3 (16:09):
Spirit, Kawe Training Camps, powered by the sport of Pickle
barn Grilled Chevron Colorado. You med Energy company, committed to
our local communities and safely delivering affordable, reliable, ever cleaner energy,
Chevron Colorado. Fabian Moreau. I neglected to say it earlier.
Fabian Moreau UH picked up by the Minnesota Vikings. Today
(16:30):
as well, we're talking about Kaween Jackson go to the Bills.
I meant meant to get that in there. Fabian Moreau
h picked up by the Minnesota Vikings. We'll see if
that ends up working out for him. Five six, six,
nine years. I thought Moreau was decent last year. I
didn't think he was bad. I mean, you know, serviceable,
not what you would call somebody build around, but certainly
(16:50):
if you got into a season and didn't think that,
you know, I didn't like the way that your your
corner was playing, and you had to make a move.
Speaker 2 (16:59):
He certainly played well enough last year.
Speaker 3 (17:03):
Five six, six nine. Zeros text line had several questions
come in the sixty four six says, this is the
year of Dulcic that's coming.
Speaker 2 (17:16):
Well. I think we all want that.
Speaker 3 (17:19):
I think every time he and Tim Patrick are out
there and they're playing well, both of them are, do
you kind of hold your breath a little bit?
Speaker 2 (17:26):
Though you know it's it's like a natural feeling.
Speaker 3 (17:30):
You want both those guys to succeed, but you kind
of hold your breath a little bit.
Speaker 2 (17:36):
Six four six asked if Simmons not interested in Broncos
or vice versa. I would say that the Broncos have
moved on, and I would say that that relationship is done.
I don't I don't want to speak for anyone here,
but I will say that I believe that Justin Simmons
would have liked and Denver will still be his home.
(17:59):
But I think you would have liked to have played
his entire career here. I firmly believe that. I just
think the Broncos wanted to go in a different direction,
and I think that's obviously the way they're gone.
Speaker 3 (18:14):
I expect Justin to be signing fairly soon, and I
do believe it'll be with the team in the AFC South.
So take that how you will.
Speaker 2 (18:26):
Seven.
Speaker 3 (18:26):
Nine.
Speaker 2 (18:26):
As I see the Broncos going twelve and five with.
Speaker 3 (18:29):
Bo, well, that's certainly an optimistic outlook. That's a pretty
tough schedule to go twelve and five, but would have
to outpace expectation. The defense would have to outpace expectation.
You probably have to things, you know, I have some
things break you away. Twelve and five is a top
of the NFL mark, And you know this schedule this year,
it's it's pretty tough.
Speaker 2 (18:48):
It's one of the toughest schedules. So I don't I
don't you know, I don't see him going twelve and five.
Speaker 3 (18:52):
I kind of have an eight, nine, nine and eight
kind of team personally, But that's still better than what
Vegas has, which is like five six wins. We'll see
how it goes.
Speaker 2 (19:09):
Nine.
Speaker 3 (19:09):
Someone else is I want Zach Wilson to play like
his draft position normally implies, But then I also want
Bownecks to be a great quarterback. It's no coden, Yeah,
I mean the thing about covering this team like this
is you sort of you could kind of root for everybody,
and that's the thing, like like Zach Wilson, Yeah, he's
the furthest behind, and you can look at him out
there and you're like, Okay, I see it.
Speaker 2 (19:29):
I get it why people why he was drafted where.
Speaker 3 (19:30):
He was because he has an absolute bazookah for an arm,
and he does have way better mobility than you think
he does, Like he's a great athlete, and so you
sort of see like the I get it portion of
where you're like, I see what what it is. Some
coach looked at him and they said, you know what,
I could turn this into something. But the situation in
(19:53):
New York, which was probably the wrong market for someone
with his personality to go to.
Speaker 2 (19:59):
Where they he didn't have anybody on that.
Speaker 3 (20:01):
Staff outside of Greg Nap who'd ever developed the quarterback,
and then Nap tragically passed away.
Speaker 2 (20:04):
In that bicycle accident, and then they threw him out there.
Speaker 3 (20:11):
When he just really wasn't ready, Like he just wasn't
ready and he drowned.
Speaker 2 (20:19):
And so.
Speaker 3 (20:22):
The way I look at it now is Zach Wilson
needs to go somewhere where they can do a complete
rebuild on him.
Speaker 2 (20:26):
The problem with that is who has that sort of time,
who has that sort of papier, What coach out there
has the reps to give someone like that? At this
point see NFL, your job's on the line.
Speaker 3 (20:41):
You know, you get you get two years and then
if you know, unless you're Urban Meyer, Nate Hackett, you
get two years and then that's that's it. Like you're
you're getting reviewed on your results. John Paiden's gonna get
year three by virtue of you know, the situation and
the money.
Speaker 2 (20:57):
But after year three, like, there's gonna have to be results.
And so when you look at Zach Willson, now look
at him like, man, this dude just needs to tear down,
rebuild to turn the ship around because the tools are there.
Speaker 3 (21:10):
Just a question of getting away to harness him. And
I don't know if he could bounce around until he
finds the right guy to be able to do that.
I'll u Gino Smith. I don't know if that's something
that exists for him. But as it looks right now,
I mean he and again we're too pad of practices
in so yeah, yeah, I'm making these generalizations that I
(21:31):
don't want to make. But what I see right now
is not somebody probably capable of starting at the NFL
level right now. It pins you throw him out there, okay,
but not really where he needs to be to do that.
And so can the Broncos put him on the roster
somewhere and develop him for a year and see what
he becomes?
Speaker 2 (21:51):
I mean, is that feasible? Can you carry three quarterbacks?
No one? One of them isn't going to contribute? Yeah,
I don't know. With bo Nicks.
Speaker 3 (22:01):
He's not there yet, but you can see signs of
him getting there. One thing I will say that I
appreciate about him, and I've raved about his ability to
get the ballot quick. But one other thing I'll say,
doesn't really make the same mistake twice, learns from his mistakes,
and that's big. That's why the coaching staff raves about him.
That's why they say those human computer stuff and you know,
(22:23):
and all those kind of you know, sort of hyperbolic
remarks that they make. And that's that he sees something
and if he messes up, he learns from it, and
that's big. So I don't want to sit here and
make it like I'm casting dispersions on bo Nicks or
you know, any of that kind of stuff.
Speaker 2 (22:43):
It's not it at all.
Speaker 3 (22:44):
I'm just trying to give you an honest assessment of
what I see out there. The potential is there, he's
just you know, he's still a turkey in the oven.
He's not quite done. And then justin you know, we
know what he is. Spot starter, you know, capable of
starting a few games in a pinch, that kind of thing.
He's not really somebody you build a franchise around, but
certainly a capable backup. And he does look like a
(23:05):
guy out there that's that's having more fun than the
other two. And I think that's because he's he's looser,
because he just has more confidence in himself because he's
been around it for a year and knows the offense.
I don't think that in any world that Jarrett Stidham
is I'm trying to think the best way to phrase this.
I don't think he's winning the competition. I think he's
(23:25):
not losing it, right. I think that you're waiting for
Bo Nicks or Zach Wilson to grow and surpass him
and then become the guy. And that's just where we're
at right now. It's Jarrett Stidham until one of the
other guys takes the job, and I expect bo Nicks
to eventually take the job. The question is when will
that happen. And I don't think that that's next week.
(23:47):
Maybe it is, but from where I'm sitting right now,
it doesn't look like that. So we'll see five six,
six nine zero.
Speaker 2 (23:56):
The three H three says that's fair, Ben, But aside
from who starts in, when you've been to several camps
and quarterback competitions here in Denver in general, how do
you feel in your opinion that Nix is progressing from
what you've experienced formally? Well, I mean, I think I
just covered that. I would say that he looks like
a rookie.
Speaker 3 (24:16):
There are flashes there and you can see you can
absolutely see what they envision with him. But right now
he doesn't look like a guy who is confident in
what he's always seeing out there. And occasionally, when the
pressure does get there, I think he gets into some
(24:37):
bad habits. The ball gets thrown a little bit high
in places, in parts of the field where you don't
want to be throwing the ball high. I believe he'll
correct all that, and it's a process. You know, He's
a guy that has to figure it out, but he
figures it out pretty quick. So just give it time.
(24:58):
I might be talking next week, you know, all of
a sudden, Hey, look, you know he's really progressive.
Speaker 2 (25:02):
He's he's taking this thing over.
Speaker 3 (25:03):
He's gonna get the jomb that maybe we're our as
soon as next week. But where we all right now
is we've got a rookie quarterback who's you know, not
quite there.
Speaker 2 (25:11):
Okay, there's nothing wrong with that. Tab Mahomes started the
first what wasn't game his first was the last game
of his first season.
Speaker 3 (25:20):
Justin Herbert didn't start the season. Josh Allen, you know,
like these guys, like these great quarterbacks in this league,
they weren't just sitting there starting right away. He used
to be the custom to sit guys for a year.
Everybody's raving about Jordan Love last year. I got sat forever.
Speaker 2 (25:40):
Carson Palmer sat his first year, Tom Brady sat for
a while, Peyton started right away, Phil Rivers sat for
a minute. Great quarterbacks over the last twenty years, there's
been a lot of quarterbacks that sat. So if it happens,
it happens. Five nine zero. This is the text line one
(26:03):
of the great questions that I got from the four
h six. Is there a different feeling with Bo compared
to say Drew in his first camp. Are you're seeing
more promise than you did with Locke? That is a
that is a really interesting question because I think it's
it's two.
Speaker 3 (26:18):
Sort of different scenarios. You had Joe Flacco in here,
you know, and you had an established starter, a guy
you paid a little bit of money to come in,
and just just a different sort of setup. I'll also
(26:42):
say this, Drew was such an outsized personality, like he
was having in the beginning. He was having so much
fun out there that you couldn't help but root for him.
Speaker 2 (26:51):
He was wild, and you hope that he rained.
Speaker 3 (26:53):
It all in and if and if he did, you know,
and got got it under control, that he could be something.
Whereas Bo Nicks is almost the the opposite end of
the spectrum.
Speaker 2 (27:03):
And that's not to say that bow Is is not
having fun, but Bo is such as you know, serious business.
Uh you know, I don't want to say robotic because
that that there's a connotation there, but it's sort of
a you know, computer and uh, a football guy and
and that kind of stuff where Drew was just a
kid having fun playing football. Bo's a football player trying
to get it. And so it's it's two kind of
(27:25):
different scenarios. You know.
Speaker 3 (27:29):
I would say that their strengths and weaknesses are sort
of opposite each other. You know, Bo, what makes Bo
Bo is the fact that he gets a ball out
quick and makes quick decisions, doesn't take negative plays.
Speaker 2 (27:41):
And all that. And Drew, what made him Drew is
the fact that he.
Speaker 3 (27:43):
Had a you know, an absolute laser for an arm,
and you know, wanted to take the deep shots. And
they're just they're just almost antithetical players in terms of
what they brought to the table. So I don't know
how to compare that really, maybe contrasting it is the
best thing.
Speaker 2 (28:03):
I will say that.
Speaker 3 (28:04):
I think Bo Nicks is closer to being what you
want than Drew Locke was, if that makes sense now.
Speaker 2 (28:12):
And Drew got hurt. You know, you guys remember that
Drew Lock got hurt and he wasn't even able to
come back until quite quite aways past the halfway part
of the season. So yeah, it's a good question.
Speaker 3 (28:26):
I just I'm not sure really how to answer that
any better than that six four six says a kid
can play football.
Speaker 2 (28:37):
Give them time. Yeah, that's that's what I'm saying. Just
just give bow Nicks time, don't You don't have to
stop trying to pressure into being the Week one starter.
If that happens, cool, but we don't need that. This
isn't the Denver Broncos championship window hasn't even opened yet, right,
(29:02):
so let's try.
Speaker 3 (29:03):
Let's quit trying to force it. Let's let's let it happen.
Let Bownicks get to where he needs to be.
Speaker 2 (29:08):
This is the first time the Broncos drafted a first
round quarterbacks, is packs to Lynch.
Speaker 3 (29:15):
Prior to that had been what Jay Cutler. I guess
Tim Tebow technically, but I give it time.
Speaker 2 (29:25):
This is the best quarterback that they've drafted since Jay Cutler.
Give it time.
Speaker 3 (29:35):
And if he if he happens to get it sooner,
so much the better. This defense is going to be
a problem for people.
Speaker 2 (29:43):
It is. I'm telling you guys right now.
Speaker 3 (29:45):
The best the best secret nationally is the fact that
this defensive line is good.
Speaker 2 (29:51):
It's good, and I don't.
Speaker 3 (29:54):
Know how stout they're going to be against the run,
because we got to see DJ as the you know
as kind of the nose, but it looks like they
are going to It looks like they're gonna be able
to stop the run this year. It looks like they're
gonna be able to maul people. It looks like they're
gonna be able to penetrate and get after the quarterback.
They've been having their way with the offensive line, and
Denver's all on offensive lines of those sloungs like it's
a pretty decent offensive line.
Speaker 2 (30:16):
They've been having their way.
Speaker 3 (30:17):
They've been blowing run plays up in the backfield, getting
after the quarterback.
Speaker 2 (30:21):
And I'm not even talking about the edge.
Speaker 3 (30:23):
I'm talking about the big boys, the three down linemen
in the middle, DJ Zach Allen, John Frankly Myers when
he was here, Malcolm Roach, Angela Blacks, and those guys.
Speaker 2 (30:34):
Like they're they're getting after it.
Speaker 3 (30:39):
And I think Vance Joseph is going to be able
to run more of what he wants to run having
guys up front that he can trust. Part of this
scheme requires those big boys up front to be able
to tie up blockers so the linebackers can shoot. And
(30:59):
we you know, we kind of saw it today. We
had Thomas Income again, he was having a heck of
a day out there.
Speaker 2 (31:08):
So I you know, when I look at everybody talking
about the quarterback situation, I got my eye over here
on this defense saying, you know what, this unit, specifically
in the front might might be able to carry this
thing a little bit. This defense is going to get back.
Speaker 3 (31:35):
To the level of play that Broncos fans are accustomed to.
It's going to be more attacking, there's going to be
more sacks, there's going to be more interceptions. And I
feel like that that's the part nobody's talking or glossing
over the fact that this defensive unit looks like it
could be something, looks like there could be something to this,
(31:58):
And I don't want to sit there and tip our hand.
I don't know what Kansas City media sit there reading
about how good the defense is.
Speaker 2 (32:08):
All of a sudden, Let's sneak up on them. What's
the uh, what's the saying on on Twitter? Whatever?
Speaker 3 (32:17):
Move in silence and carry large knife or whatever the
enemy moves in silence, carry a large knife.
Speaker 2 (32:22):
Yeah, let's sneak up on people this year. Let everybody
else run their mouth.
Speaker 3 (32:29):
If Phone Nicks is half of what they think he
can be this is gonna be.
Speaker 2 (32:32):
A competitive football team. They might not. And I want
to say competitive, I mean in games.
Speaker 3 (32:38):
Now getting blown out or you know, needing desperation comebacks, looking.
Speaker 2 (32:45):
Forward to it playing out six four six, as we
want the five hundred football team window to open, well,
I think that window is here, and my window to
get out of here is here as a Rockies baseball
is up next. Jack Corgan, Jerry Shamble on
