Speaker 1 (00:00):
Benjamin all Bright. We got Jeff Brightley back there. Abision
Control five six six nine zero is the text line
short show. Obviously, Rockies Kawa Training Camp is powered by
the Sporty Pickle Bar and Grill and Chevron Colorado. It's
the human energy company committed to our local communities and
safely delivering affordable, reliable, ever cleaner energy Colorado. Interesting day
(00:23):
down at training camp today. We're going to follow up
on some of the story from the Olympic boxing thing
last night, which most of you on the text line
thought positively of, although a few of you did not,
and we'll get into why people embarrassed themselves yesterday over
that here. In just a few Brandy Cristal will join
(00:44):
us bottom of the hour. Good chance to talk to
him there in Canton ahead of the enshrinement of Randy
Gratischar into the Hall of Fame. Look forward to that
as well. Other training camp today went pretty well, you know,
hot unpadded practice a little little bit of a long one.
(01:04):
I thought that, uh, the one the one thing that's
jumping out at me right now that I that I
think we really need to get corrected. We're not talking
about is receivers dropping the ball. Bou had a couple
of good passes that were dropped by receivers. That's been
a theme over the last three days. They need to
get that cleaned up. One day it drops, he's okay.
Two days, hey, that's not good. Three days we got
a problem. We need to fix it. Uh. So I
will say that for all the people that think I'm
(01:26):
a you know, bowt Nick's hater or whatever the nonsense is.
You know, I've seen a few receivers out here dropping
balls they should have caught, and you know that's that's
something that they definitely need to get cleaned up. I
still don't think there's a leader or a winner or
whatever at this point. We all know the organization wants
Bo to be the guy. Uh and you know, eventually,
(01:50):
I believe that he will be the guy. The question
is when I'm not as a few useive in my
praise for him, as some people, I'm a bit more skeptical.
I'm a more you know, you have to show me
consistency before I'm I'm there. In my opinion, Jarrett Stidham
(02:11):
has a better command of the offense at this point.
That's not to say that bow won't get there or
surpass him. That's not to say he won't even do
it next week, but I just think at this point
and Jarrett should have better come out of the offense.
He's been in it for a year that you can
look at this and sort of see that. Today in
the the two minute drill was was interesting. At the
(02:32):
end of practice. You saw Bow run with the ones
and kind of dink and dunk his way down there,
got into field goal range with six seconds left and
go from there. And then you saw Jared Stidham just
do it in two chunks and they had a minute left,
but then they got bogged down once they got down there,
but both both settled for field goal. I don't think
(02:53):
I don't think there was anything gleaned out of either
one of those. It was just interesting that Bo's, you
know who, taking the safer and and Jarrett, who's a
guy who has been safe throughout most of camp, was
taking a little bit more of a chance. Although he
wasn't throwing to anyone double covered or anything like that.
He threw to an open receiver. It's just more vertical.
So again, I just think that this quarterback competition's playing
(03:15):
itself out. I think Zach Wilson is a distant third,
but I think the other two guys are, you know,
are battling it out. I think bon Nix will eventually
be the starter here for the Broncos. The question is
whether that's week one, or week four, week eight, or
whatever that is. Whenever that moment is, whenever he gets
Sean Payton to the point where Peyton is fully confident
that he has a firm grasp on everything, then you'll
(03:37):
be the guy. And I think we're all just waiting
on that. But I'm not going to jump the gun
and be thirsty about it and try to promote him
to levels that he's not quite at yet. He still
throws the ball behind receivers at times. He's really good
when he's figured out what the defense is doing pre snap,
but when he doesn't, you can see the smoke kind
of coming out as the wheels turn, and he's sort
of he's still learning how to be an NFL quarterback.
(04:01):
You know, in college at Oregon there there was a
lot of stuff that was dressed up, a lot of
smoke and mirrors. The way that thing was was laid
out for him to get it out quick and all
that kind of stuff. You're not gonna be able to
do all that at the NFL level if you're a quarterback.
Sometimes you've got to set the table and that's not
something Bo's done before. And so he's, you know, he's
he's adjusting to that. And that's again not to say
he won't get there and he won't get there quickly,
(04:22):
but it's just something that he has to learn to
do and he's not quite there yet. And so I
think some of the coverage out there is a little
premature with the arrival of Bonnix. I mean, certainly we
see what the what the front office and coaching staff
is leaking nationally to people like Colin Coward and Dan Ersini,
you know all that, because it's all the exact same
borbatim quotes, so we know where they're coming from. But
I don't think that I don't think we need to
(04:45):
jump the gun on that Bo's gonna be the guy
at some point. The question is when he gets there,
and we need to enjoy the ride till he gets
there and enjoy it, really enjoyed the ride once he does.
So I think that's that's really where that's at with
everything else. Yesterday Towards the end of the show, I
talked a little bit about Algilian boxer Meani Khalif and
the International Olympic Committee and how they've landed sort of
(05:06):
in the middle of a divide about gender and sports
after her Italian competitor Angela Karini pulled out forty six
seconds into their bout at the Paras Olympics and didn't
shake Kalif's hand. Moments after getting hit, Kaarini fell to
her knees, saying she quit because of the pain from
Kalif's opening punches, saying, quote, my face and nose were hurting.
(05:29):
I couldn't breathe anymore. I thought about my family. I
looked over at my brother in the stands, and I
went to my corner retire. I'd never been hit with
such a powerful punch now. Karine said that move was
not premeditated and that she was not making a political
statement about Khalif, who was admittedly disqualified from last year's
World Championship after facing a sort of unspecified gender eligibility test, although,
(05:52):
and I'll give you more detail on that later, that
test was a farce and a sham by a wealthy
Russian who wanted his fighter that was in that fight
to win, and after a Khalif had beaten her. It
wasn't something I intended to do, Karine said. Actually, she said,
I want to apologize to her and everyone else. I
was angry because my Olympics had gone up in smoke.
(06:13):
I don't have anything against Khalif. Actually, if I were
to meet her again, I would embrace her. Karini also
commented on the gender controversy surrounding the incident and insisted
that she supports her opponent, saying, all this controversy makes
me sad. I'm sorry for my opponent at the ISOSA
said she can fight. I respect that decision. The thing
(06:34):
to know about Khalif she was born in nineteen ninety nine.
She's from rural northwestern Algeria. Her father did not approve
of girls participating in boxing, but Khalif said she gave
up socker as a teenager to pursue her passion, even
though she had to travel ten kilometers each way to
the gym every day. Khalif eventually caught the attention of
Algeria's national team made in the major tournament debut in
(06:54):
twenty eighteen. She had a loss her first fight was
an immediate loss. At the AIBA which now the IBA
World Championships, she lost five of her six first bouts,
but people felt like she was improving as she went along.
She was one of Algeria's first three Olympic women's boxers
sent to Tokyo three years ago. Won her opening bout,
but lost her second to eventual gold medalist Kelly Harrington
(07:17):
of Ireland. She became the UNISF national ambassador earlier this year.
Khalif was and this is the part that I find interesting.
Khalif was never known as a dominant champion, an overpowering
physical specimen, or even a particularly hard puncher at her
weight until all of a sudden this exploded on the internet. Now.
(07:41):
She was disqualified from the twenty twenty three World Championships
after failing an unspecified, non transparent eligibility test. And I'm
using that in quotations because behind the scenes there's more
to that. And that test was administered by the now
banned International Boxing Association, which cited high levels of testosterone
(08:03):
in her system. The circumstances of that disqualification have been
considered highly unusual ever since it happened, and Khalif called
it a conspiracy. At the time, Leif was a female
at birth, says so on her passport. She previously competed
without issues, and she was only disqualified by that now
(08:24):
banned organization after she defeated Russian boxer Azalia Ameneva in
the twenty twenty three tournament. Now the IBA is controlled
by Umar Kremlev, who is Russian and bought in the
state owned energy supplier Gazprom as its primary sponsor for
the fight, and moved much of the governing bodies operations
to Russia. Now, the reasons for the disqualification are extremely murky,
(08:50):
and as is almost always the case with the IBA,
which is why it's banned. The governing body has revealed
little about the nature the tests, including what was tested
and who tested it. The lack of transparency would be
unacceptable in major Olympic sports, and the IBA has been
banned from the Olympics since twenty nineteen. The IOC noted
Thursday that Boxing Association's own documents says the decision was
(09:11):
made unilaterally by the IBA's secretary General. Those documents also
say the IBA went on to resolve at a meeting
that it should establish a clear procedure after it had
already disqualified her. This is not a transgender issue. These
women have been competing in competition for years. The testosterone
test is not a perfect test, and many women have
(09:31):
elevated levels of testosterone which is in what would be
called male levels and still be women and compete as women.
And I think that's part of the problem last night
when I was trying to suggest that hey, maybe we
need to have empathy, wait for all the facts, and
that we're not qualified to speak on this. At the
end of the day, there are a lot of people,
led largely by a complete disinformation Twitter account called Libs
(09:54):
of TikTok that is repeatedly known for putting out false
nonsense or finding extreme examples trying to twist them into something.
Unless you think I'm being unfair politically occupied democrats on
the left is the exact same way, only on the
other side. The short version of all this is that
she is a woman who's been competing for years against
other women, and there was no issue, including at the
(10:15):
twenty twenty Olympics, never any question of her gender, testosterone levels,
no articles, no headlines, no commentary from her opponents. Nothing.
She doesn't even have a particularly stellar record, even though
she's been approving in recent years. She was tested at
the twenty twenty two World Championship and they didn't find
any problem. She took the silver medal there without incident,
and up until the twenty twenty three World Championships when
(10:36):
she beat a rushing boxer which I've already touched on,
never had had any issue the boxing organization that tester
or oversees the Boxing World Championship. It's been in connection
with the IOC for years or issues of corruption and
concerns over referring and judging. And that goes in with
the Russian known gas Prom, who was the sponsor that
(10:56):
the IBA depended on without their money that the IBA
would need you it existed. The IBA elected a corrupt
Russian president in twenty twenty and in twenty twenty two
they wrongly declared his reelection opponent ineligible just so that
he could win an uncontested reelection. Multiple countries in kluding
the United States and United Kingdom boycotted the twenty twenty
three World Championships because the IBA suspended Ukraine and unsuspended
(11:19):
Russia and Belarus. In twenty twenty two against IOC guidelines.
All of this ultimately resulted in the IOC serving ties
with the IBA, which hasn't happened with any sport in decades.
They messed up so bad that the IOC may drop
boxing altogether. Another organization has risen up in attempting to
replace the IBA in order to save boxing at the Olympics.
(11:41):
But Me and Khalif competes in the World Championships in
twenty twenty two, when it goes testing, no eligibility issues,
takes a silver medal. Competes in twenty twenty three no
eligibility issues, gets to the round of sixteen beats, a
Russian boxer suddenly gets tested and suddenly the results of this,
which are not out there to anyone, they declare her ineligible.
She has never failed any other test anywhere at any
(12:03):
point in time. The IBA never said what kind of
test it was, just that it wasn't a testosterone test,
nor did they explain the results, citing privacy. In an
interview with Russian state owned media, the Russian president of
the IBA said they did a DNA test. But again,
if you look at the source, the audience, the track
record of corruption and the timing can we trust that
(12:24):
they certainly didn't reveal any of the results. They did
this in twenty twenty two and didn't have any issue
with the results, but somehow in twenty twenty three did
they used the twenty twenty two test as part of
their basis for disqualifying or even though they allowed her
to compete based off of it. So there's no evidence
that she has even higher testosterone, not publicly. She competed
(12:48):
in twenty twenty Olympics without incident, even when other female
athletes with high testosterone were withdrawn. And again I want
to go over that, because there were female athletes in
twenty twenty that were rejected based on high testosterone. She
wasn't all that to say that all the people saying
things yesterday were completely out of line. They were wrong
(13:11):
and they continue to be wrong, and people can't admit
that for whatever reason. At the end of the day,
this is such a niche issue that doesn't actually affect
that many people worldwide. In the entire history of United
States professional women's sports, thirty four total athletes have been transgendered,
(13:32):
meaning they were biologically men playing in women's sports. In
the entire history of the United States, collegiate and professional
thirty four women, the first of which was in the
nineteen thirties. This is such, this idea that this phenomenon
is taking over women's sports is made up. At the
(13:55):
end of the day, the women's sports governing bodies should
come up with clear procedures for what they do, they
deem a woman, what their tests are, and whether or
not the women in their sport want to play under
those guidelines, and if they do, that's up to them.
As a man, I don't know what the answer to
that is. I'm not qualified. I'm not a doctor, I'm
not a biologist, and I shouldn't be the one that's
sitting there trying to dictate to anyone what those procedures
(14:15):
should be. But I will say I'm tired of misinformation
online and I am tired of the snarky, angry nonsense
that we see at times because people have lost the
ability to be empathetic. It's not this boxer's fault that
she was born the way she was born. It just happens.
(14:41):
And so at the end of the day, if she
wants to go compete, why, you know, why can't we
figure out something that works. The Italian boxer who pulled
out and you know with the issue saying it was
the hardest punch she ever felt, has a history of
pulling out of boxing matches. But what we saw is
(15:02):
somebody's pet issue get thrown into the arena online, and
now this person has become a mascot and a rallying
cry for people who have no idea what they're talking about,
but are adamantly against it. At the end of the day,
we are all just people and sports are supposed to
(15:23):
bring us together, not sit there and be a further
divisive issue. Let's get together and solve this. Let's get
together and have a civil, real conversation about it. Let's
find solutions that work. Let's not find Let's not sit
(15:44):
there and be exclusionary for exclusionary's sake, or knee jerk
reactions about an actual woman calling her a man for
a day and never correcting your record on it. At
the end of the day, we're all female. We're all
for the first six to eight weeks. We're all female
before the y chromosome kicks in and tells you to
start growing male parts. So in the end we all
(16:09):
should be empathetic. We don't need to sit there and
be outraged by this. This isn't the outrage thing. There
are plenty of real things to be outraged, including the
swimmer who raped a twelve year old and is competing
in the Olympics. Where's your outrage for that? Seriously, you
(16:31):
got tons of faux outrage here, but no real outrage
on a real crime. Meet me with your outrage on that,
because we'll be back on the other side and talk
about Randy Gratishard in the Hall of Fame with BK
Broncos Country Night back after this down here at Broncos Park,
Power by Common Spirit, Kaywait Training Camps, Power by Chevron Colorado,
the Sporty Pickle Bar and Grill. It's the official training
(16:52):
camp Barn Grill, Kay Sports Networks five minutes Room Camp
at eighty six forty south Porty, Sportypickle dot Com Calm
five six six nine zero is the text line. Got
quite a few texts on the stuff from the last say, man,
you guys can listen to a Broncos Country to Night
that come SLAE podcast. I don't want to relitigate it.
We've got a short show and I want to get
(17:12):
into a Broncos training camp as much as we can.
Brandick Cristal going to join us from Canton here just
a little bit doing some stuff there with the Hall
of Fame and obviously preparing for any Gratscharer's enshrinment. I
thought training camp thus far has shown a couple of things.
You know, I've talked about the receivers a little bit
and and the drops. That's something that I feel like
they really have got to get cleaned up. It's become
(17:33):
a little bit of a punch line and that's going
to bleed over into columns and things like that eventually
if it doesn't get remedied. One thing I will say,
and I've said it repeatedly, I think this defense is
going to surprise people this year. The defensive line is
much improved. They've got some real beef up there, and
they've got depth to DJ. You've got Zach Allen. They
(17:55):
obviously the trade for John Franklin Myers, who I believe
will be one of the best offseason act wassitions they
made this year. And Angela Blaxon, Uh and Malcolm Roach
have made some plays as well. They've got some some
real depth here. And I do believe that this Uh
that this team is going to surprise people. There's a
there's a shift philosophically in what they're doing. You're you're
not running Vic's you know, tight front, zero tech with
(18:18):
two four eyes and and you know everything's dropped back
in his zone with a quarters match that kind of stuff.
You're not doing that anymore. Uh. This this team is
going to be attacking more. They're going to be blitzing
defensive backs. They're going to be blitzing corners and safeties.
They're going to be attacking the quarterback and trying to
bring pressure from different places there. Uh, there's going to
be more man coverage. I believe you'll see pats are
(18:39):
Tan shadowing primary receivers rather than just staying on his
half of the field. You know, you're going to see
more more single high coverage. Uh so I I I
like what we're going to get out of this. Defensively,
I do believe that you're going to see a defense
that Broncos country wrecking nises more. I mean, the last
(19:01):
few years, it's not that Vic Fangiel's defenses are bad.
It's just that what they do in terms of being bend,
don't break, they get results right, it does, it gets
a bogy down in the red zone and either gets
a tar over forces you for a field goal. That
it's it does that. However, if you are what I
call a coin flip football team, and that is you're
playing conservatively because you don't believe that the offense is
(19:22):
capable of, you know, of being more than that. You
want to keep it safe, not turn it over, and
you know, play like that into you have more confidence
in your offense. So if you're playing coin flip football,
which the Broncos did the last few years under Fangio,
and we saw that with Teddy Bridgewater and all that,
how conservative they were. The problem with that is when
you play coin flip football, you tend to get coin
(19:43):
flip results, and you play close games like that, they
tend to be close at the end. And when you
have close games like that, generally you don't want to
be on defense last because if you're a bend, don't
break football team, you're going to bend a lot and
if you need to get the football back to get
a score, that's tough to get. So that's the problem.
(20:06):
That's the lethal flaw, as it were in the Fangio defense.
There are a couple other little flaws in there. You
can run on him if you you know, it bits
you into running on him, and if you do run
on them and you're successful, it creates a problem. But
the larger point here is is that when you need
a stop and you need a quick stop, it's difficult
(20:27):
to get that playing that style of defense. It's just
not designed for that. So we saw games where at
the end of games, teams had the football and wouldn't
relinquish it, and the Broncos would lose because they could
get the ball back. And so I believe philosophically you're
going to see that change play out this year, where
you're going to have a more attacking defense that is
(20:48):
able to get quick stops or get turnovers. There is
going to be there's a trade off with that. You
put yourself at risk for busted plays, single points of
failure a little bit more when you have eyes in
man coverage. But I think overall it's something that fans
will enjoy a little bit more. There'll be more sacks,
You're sending more guys after the quarterback, and I feel
(21:11):
like fans will enjoy that more. It's been a common
complaint from fans, and I don't get me wrong, I
see the value of vis defense. I liked what they
were doing, but I also see the inherent flaw at it.
And if you're going to be a team with likely
a rookie quarterback starting most of the year, probably you're
(21:31):
probably going to play a little bit more conservatively on
offense at times, and you're gonna need to make quick
stops and get the ball back at the end to
have a chance. And so I feel like, if the
Broncos are going to be competitive philosophically, you did have
to adjust what it was that you were going to
do on defense. Five six six nine zeros a text line.
I see the text coming in. Guys. It's just too
(21:53):
short a show for me to really get into all that.
So I apologize. Normally I would get into that read
those back to you. I really would, and I feel
because of that, but we got a limited time tonight
and I'm just not able to get into that. I
will tell you, guys. I want to tell you, guys
something that came across the desk little earlier today. You
can win a pair of tickets to every twenty twenty
four Broncos home game from KOA starting next week. You
(22:15):
gotta be listening for your chance to win during every
KOA show. You could also enter at Broncos training camp
at the KOA tents at the top of the Hill
this Saturday and then Friday August sixteenth, So you got
tomorrow Friday, August sixteenth, or be listening during our shows
and you can enter to win tickets to every home
game this season, which I think is gonna be pretty fun.
(22:35):
I think this team's going to be more competitive on
the offensive side of the ball. We have talked about
the drops the receivers had as far as the quarterbacks go.
I'm not anti bon Nicks by any stretch. I know
that's a refrain that's out there. There are also people
that think I'm a secret agent for the Kansas City Chiefs.
If you can believe that, because in nineteen ninety who
I lived there, It is a twelve year old rooted
for the Chiefs. But I'm not. I'm just a guy
(22:58):
who loves football and I cover the were Broncos, and
I'm fortunate enough to be able to do that. I'm
not sitting there trying to undermine bow Nick says. If
I even have that power I'm just trying to be
honest about what I see. I'm not as enthralled as
perhaps some of the media coverage that has been out there.
I have seen him make some good throws. He had
(23:19):
a good win today to turn two minute to square in.
I think it was Sutton. I'm trying to remember. I
have to go back and look. There's a little video
out there circulating around from some people who were sitting
on the berm great throw. Sir Tam was in coverage
and both put it right there, right there between the hashes,
right on the money. But there have been other throws
that were not. He did take a chance at two
minutes to Sutton on the left side near the pylon,
(23:41):
about a thirty yard throw, and it was a yard
out of bounds, so there was no way Sutton, who
has an excellent reputation for toe tap catches, was going
to be able to make a play on it. I've
seen him throw the ball behind receivers. Part of that
is probably a function off not working with these receivers before.
In addition to learning this offense, you're also learning what
(24:06):
the speed level is on these guys, where they're going
to be how quickly they're going to get get there
where I need to put the ball, so it's out
in front of them the best possible scenario. So that's
not me sitting there crapping on bon Nicks. It's me
telling you what happened, and hey, this is something that's got
to improve. And I don't know why people try to
(24:30):
make this out that I hate Boonix or something. I don't.
I told you guys hour before the draft who the
draft pick was going to be. I told you back
in January that Bonix was the archetype for Sean Payton.
I I don't want to sit here and do his
faux back padding moment here. But the idea that I
(24:51):
hate Boenix is stupid, Like guys, it's it's stupid. Let's
stop doing that. I like Boonix just fine. I want
the best man to win the job, and whoever's gonna
make the Broncos more competitive to win the job because
it's a lot more fun covering this football team when
they're winning. I can tell you a little taste of
it last year during that win streak. It is a
(25:11):
lot more fun covering this football team when they're winning five, six, six, nine.
Zero is the text line Bredick Christal gonna pop on
here with us here in a few I think he's
a little tied up right now at the Hall of Fame.
But we're trying to we're efforting. We had several a
(25:34):
lot of texts coming in, and again, I want to
get into a lot of this stuff. But the problem
is I don't have the time to get into this
with the nuance that it deserves. But I appreciate you
guys listening. I do appreciate your text in I do
read all the texts that you guys said, and even
the ones where you guys are jerks. I'm interested to
(26:05):
see this scrimmage tomorrow because I'm I'm looking forward to
more of a game type situation. I think there's more
to be gleaned from that. I know, you get people
who post these massive Twitter threads online and hang on
every rep and all that kind of stuff. But and
that's good, that's all well and good. I don't I
don't put much stocks in ones or sevens. I talked
about the interception of ones the other day because I
(26:26):
was trying to provide context, but I blew up in
my face because people didn't understand what I was trying
to do, which is probably a communication issue on my part,
but I you know, I tend to take the stuff
that's the most football like and judge based on that.
So I'm excited to see the sort of scrimmage tomorrow
and how that looks in terms of bo having master
(26:48):
and command of the offense. You know, Stidham, whether he
gets outside himself and he does just kind of take
the safe plays a lot. Welcome back to it broke
those countries tonight. I'm just looking forward to the scriptage tomorrow.
(27:09):
You know, we talked about game situations, and I really
do think that that's the best way to judge football.
So it'll be our first real judgment on where this
offense is, where these quarterbacks are. I think we can
tell from the reps where the defense is, but I
really want to see this thing in a game controlled environment,
(27:35):
and that's the closest we'll get before, you know, preseason games.
I'm not opposed to Bonnix being the starter from day one.
I know people have talked about that. I'm an opposed
to anybody being the starter from day one, just as
long as he's ready. I hate the narratives out there
(27:55):
because when what happens is when I get into these conversations,
people inevitably tell me, if it's close, you gotta start bow. No,
you don't. You start bow Nicks when he's ready. You
don't before he's ready. Period. The Broncos are not in
a window. We're not. We're not gonna win a Super
Bowl this year. We're not. This year is a building
(28:16):
year to set it up for a Super Bowl run.
You don't put bow Nicks out there until he's ready.
Once he demonstrates that he is, you put him out
there and you don't pull him. You do everything you
can to build him up, set him up, and go
from there. And if that's week one, cool, but just
(28:38):
make sure that you're you're you're right on there. And
Sean Payton is gonna do that. He's not just gonna
put bow out there to put him out there. That's
his handpick guy, that's the guy he's staking his legacy to.
Sean Payton is staking his football legacy to bow Nicks.
He's not gonna throw him out there before Bow's ready.
(28:58):
And if that means we got to go to Seattle
with Jared's him as the starter or Zach Wilson is
the starter, then that's what will happen. If Bo's ready,
then Bold be the starter person. I always like to
give my rookies a home start as their first start.
You got a friendly crowd, you can kind of get
into the swing of things without having to deal with
(29:18):
the chaos of the loudest stadium in the NFL. Last
thing you want you to do is get your quarterback
panics because you can't hear anything. You trying to figure
out communication issues. You wanted to get into good habits.
I'm want to set him up for success. And again,
(29:40):
I don't know if he's going to be the guy
in Seattle'll be the guy in here against Pittsburgh or whenever.
That stuff will all play itself out. I just don't
like arguments about you have to put him out there,
you have to do this. No, you have to wait
until he's ready. Sean Payton is putting his reputation on
the line. Sean Payton is a guy who is coaching
(30:00):
for legacy at this point. If he wants to make
the Hall of Fame, he's probably going to have to
do something no one has ever done before, and that's
win a Super Bowl with two different teams. He has
too many negatives on his resume to get the Hall
and not enough positives. You only got one super Bowl
(30:20):
with Drew Brees. You got guys with two super Bowls
can't even get in the Hall of Fame. Mike Shanahan,
Tom Coughlin aren't in. George Seffert's not in five, six, six,
nine zeros a text line. I see the text coming in. Guys.
It's just too short a show for me to really
get into all that. So I apologize. Normally I would
(30:41):
get into that read those back to you. I really would,
and I feel bad because of that. But we got
a limited time tonight and I'm just not able to
get into that. I will tell you, guys. I want
to tell you, guys something that came across the desk
a little earlier today. You can win a pair of
tickets to every twenty twenty four Broncos home game from
KOA starting next week. Got be listening for your chance
to win during every KOA show. You could also enter
(31:04):
at Broncos' training camp at the KOA Tents at the
top of the Hill this Saturday and then Friday, August sixteenth,
So you got tomorrow Friday, August sixteenth, or be listening
during our shows and you can enter to win tickets
to every home game this season, which I think is
gonna be pretty fun. I think this team's going to
be more competitive on the offensive side of the ball.
We have talked about the drops the receivers had as
(31:27):
far as the quarterbacks go. I'm not anti bon Nicks
by any stretch. I know that's a refrain that's out there.
There are also people that think I'm a secret agent
for the Kansas City Chiefs. If you can believe that,
because in nineteen ninety t Whore I lived there. It
is a twelve year old rooted for the Chiefs. But
I'm not. I'm just a guy who loves football and
I cover the Denver Broncos and I'm fortunate enough to
be able to do that. I'm not sitting there trying
(31:49):
to undermine bow Nicks, as if I even have that power.
I'm just trying to be honest about what I see.
I'm not as enthralled as perhaps some of the media
coverage that has been out there. I have seen him
make some good throws. He had a good one today
durn two minute to square in. I think it was Sutton.
I'm trying to remember. I have to go back and look.
There's a little video out there circulating around from some
(32:11):
people who were sitting on the berm. Great throw, Sir
Tam was in coverage and both put it right there,
right there between the hashes, right on the money. But
there have been other throws that were not. He did
take a chance at two minutes to Sutton on the
left side near the pylon, about a thirty yard throw,
and it was a yard out of bounds, so there
was no way Sutton, who has an excellent reputation for
(32:33):
toe tap catches, was going to be able to make
a play on it. I've seen him throw the ball
behind receivers. Part of that is probably a function off
not working with these receivers before. In addition to learning
this offense, you're also learning what the speed level is
on these guys, where they're going to be, how quickly
(32:54):
they're going to get get to where I need to
put the ball, so it's out in front of them
the best possible scenario. So that's not me sitting they
are crapping on Bonnicks. It's me telling you what happened
and Hey, this is something that's got to improve. And
I don't know why people try to make this out
(33:15):
that I hate Boonix or something. I don't. I told
you guys, hour before the draft who the draft pick
was going to be. I told you back in January
that Bonix was the archetype for Sean Payton. I don't
want to sit here and do his faux back padding
moment here. But the idea that I hate Boonis is stupid, guys,
(33:38):
It's stupid. Let's stop doing that. I like Boonix just fine.
I want the best man to win the job, and
whoever's going to make the Broncos more competitive to win
the job. Because it's a lot more fun covering this
football team when they're winning. I can tell you a
little taste of it last year during that wind streak.
It is a lot more fun covering this football team
when they're winning. Sean Bayton needs this for legacy, and
(34:04):
he's gonna play it right and you're gonna see that,
whether that's b Nick's starting from day one or Bonick
starting in week eight or whatever. Let's be patient and
enjoy the ride. Looking forward to the scrimmage coverage here
at ka Wait tomorrow ten am Live. You guys can
listen along myself and Ryan Edwards listen to Broncos Country
night right here on kawat the Am ninety four one
