Speaker 1 (00:00):
It is Broncos Country tonight. No Benjamin all Right, he
was on Koe Sports earlier. I am Brandon Christall hanging
with you all night long, fresh off a plane from Canton, Ohio.
Was lucky enough to get to attend my third Hall
of Fame ceremony, and each sime it's a different experience,
but this one was special in a lot of ways.
(00:22):
And I was able to spend a lot of time
with Randy Gratishar and get to know some of his
family and some of his very close friends. Tom Jackson,
who's obviously somebody from a distance that I've known and
talked to in passing. But I don't want to pretend
like TJ and I are friends now. I think we're
certainly friendlier. And he was very appreciative for some of
(00:44):
the photos and videos I sent from the parade. And
then it was a great speech and a great event
that the Broncos through for him, And you know, it
was cool that both Greg Penner and his wife Carrie
Walt and Penner were there to not only represent the
team but help you participate in the party and all
(01:04):
of that. And there's pictures that are out of them
enjoying the festivities, and so many members of the Orange
Crush that were able to make it. I was able
to talk to Louie Wright, among others, and it was
just a special weekend, especially when you think about how
long Rainey's had to wait and the fact that he
(01:24):
grew up forty miles away from the Hall of Fame.
You had so many friends and family members and people
that know him a little or that he knew their
siblings or all of that that ended up being making
what's already a special weekend that much more special. It
would have been the same had you gotten in thirty
five years ago when he was first eligible, and should have.
But nonetheless, I think that everybody that was able to
(01:48):
attend was so glad that they were able to make it,
and I am certainly at the top of that list.
I also went in twenty nineteen when Pat Bullen and
Champ Bailey got in, and that was certainly a great weekend.
And then in twenty twenty one when my old radio partner,
y'all hear on this show plenty Steve Atwater got in
and he invited my wife and I to attend the festivities,
(02:11):
and everybody was out there and Ryan and Ben and
big Al and Dave Logan's out there that weekend. It
was just it was a lot of fun. I think
Dave was out there. He was definitely out there in
twenty nineteen, but either way, it was it was a blast.
And so I didn't know if we were going to go,
and then the powers that be at iHeartRadio and Game
(02:33):
were like, oh no, we're covering it. I mean, we
are the Broncos station. And to give you an idea
of who else was there, it's not going to take
very long. Of course, Denver Broncos dot Com had a contingent,
and then Chris thomasin of the Gazette and that's it. Grant,
We're done with the list of media attendees from Denver
that were there to take in all the sights and
sounds of Randy Grashar's Hall of Fame weekend. If you
(02:55):
didn't see Chelle Davis in some of the photos, he
was there Friday night. And I believe Shannon Sharp and
John Elway might have been at Mike Ornstein's freen with
a long time agent and NFL power broker, So they
weren't there, but everybody else was. Gary Zimmerman and Peyton
Manning freshop his trip to the Olympics was there. So
it was a really really fun weekend and we got
(03:18):
to not only see those speeches, but or Randy speech,
but everybody's speech. So even with a little rain and
all of that, it was still it held off during
the ceremony and it just if you haven't ever gone
to the Hall of Fame, and Grant you're from Ohio,
so I do want to talk to you about Ohio.
Have you ever been to the Pro Football Hall of
(03:38):
Fame in Canton? I have, and it is very very cool. Yeah,
and I've been there this, like I said, my third time,
but the last two times I didn't spend as much
time in the museum, and even the first couple of
days that I was there, you know. And I got
there on the later side Friday afternoon after flying out
to Columbus, and then there was the Gold Jacket dinner,
(03:59):
so I was outside the Hall of Fame, and then
Saturday I was taking some photos and video, but it's
super crowded and there's a torrential rainstorm going on, So
it wasn't until Sunday that I was able to In
the early part of the afternoon, just walk through the
museum and read everything and sit in a couple of
(04:21):
different presentations. Want about interesting artifacts, including like Tom Dempsey's shoe, right,
he had half a foot a club foot and kicked
that sixty three yard or famously against the Lions at
two Lane Stadium for the Saints to win the game,
the longest field goal ever until Sebastian Janakowski broke it
and then Justin Tucker broke it a couple of years
ago with the sixty six yard Or in the Dome
(04:41):
in Detroit. I want to say's either in Detroit or
in Minnesota. I was in the Dome, which was really impressive,
and so just random stuff the first ever, like the
wireless device that the Browns tried to employ, and the
league band, but in like the fifties, there's either the
fifties or early sixties. Some scientists in Cleveland told Paul Brown, hey,
(05:04):
you're spending too much time shuttling plays in and out.
Why not just talk into Alwaukie talkie. And their first
couple of tests and involved the police being notified that
they were on the police band, and they were on
like fireban, and finally they found their own channel, but
then other teams also heard it, including the Giants when
they tried it in New York, and so the Giants
(05:27):
were able to listen in on the entire first half,
and by the time the Browns went old School it
was a little too late. So just that was cool.
There was a Joe Namath hologram thing that was really cool.
And what else was funny, Grant Is Warren Moon was
there and on my way out the door, Warren had
been in the Hall of Fame and West had been
in the Hall Fame maybe like he'd been walking around
(05:49):
with the people that he was with and nobody really
noticed he was weren't a Hall of Fame polo too,
but out of context, and he was even featured in
the Joe Namath Hall of Fame thing that I saw
the hologram thing, and so I was like, do people
just not realize warm we're just hanging out here? But
(06:09):
it's it's so cool and to be able to just
see all the old artifacts and see the you know,
see the evolution from the way the game was played
with leather helmets and super small, unsafe shoulder pads and
barely any pads in the pants to where it's evolved
to and what it's become is really fascinating. All the
(06:32):
random artifacts that they have and everything else. It was
fun to just kind of be a tourist, if you will,
beyond all the cool Hall of Fame stuff. So I
got to talk with Randy one on one yesterday morning,
and again, when you're the only person in town doing that,
it doesn't make it hard for them to for them
to give you the time, and so I appreciated that.
(06:52):
So we're gonna bring you that here in just a
little bit at six point thirty five. And then I
also talked with you know, I mentioned TJ, but also
DeMarcus Ware are going to hear that coming up. But
we should probably circle around to the news of the
day and what's going on with the Broncos. They were
in shells today, but before they even hit the practice field,
we heard reports that Cayden Stearns wasn't long for this team,
(07:16):
and I got the sense talking to some people in
the offseason that they just think they've gotten all they
can from him, and because he's missed so many games
because of injury, including getting hurt in the opener last year,
that even though he's not the oldest player, they've reached
kind of a point of diminishing returns, and so you
(07:38):
have to decide, Okay, do we want to prop up
these other young guys like a JL Skinner or do
we want to keep hoping that Cayden that he stays
healthy and all of that. And I think that they's
made the decision, you know, when we can hear from
Sean here in a second on why they made that move,
but just that they're gonna rely on these young guys.
(08:00):
And with Brandon Jones coming in, we know he's dealing
with the hamstring and they're being cautious there. With PJ Lot
coming back, we know like Jael Skinner. I think they
like Devin Key as well, and we'll see where dt
Y gets after his season Enkning injury. But it uh,
it was just time for them to move on. And
(08:21):
so actually, Grant, if you can get that ready for me,
Sean explained sort of the logic behind why they're moving
on now and the timing, and you see them do
this a lot with vets, where they will release them
if they know they're not going to make the team,
to give them a chance to catch on somewhere else,
and I don't know if Kayden really counts as a VET,
but as you can imagine, early on in his press
(08:43):
availability after today's practice, Sean was asked, what's the story
with Cayden Stearns.
Speaker 2 (08:48):
I visited with Kayden this morning and it just told him,
you know, right now, we felt like it was in
the best interest of our team, and especially this early,
were kill up a chance to either possibly signed with
another team or possibly be traded. And part of it
is the byproduct of some of these other guys that
are playing ahead of him right now.
Speaker 1 (09:10):
Well, there you go. It's pretty straightforward. So even though
last week we saw on the field some and he's
been cleared, I imagine the team was not. Multiple teams
will reach out to his representation and kick the tires
on him because there is some good tape out there.
Although I was talking to Nate Jackson earlier and his
(09:30):
thought is that Cayden wasn't aggressive enough that there were
times that he passed up being able to come in
and just lay the wood like you want to see
from safeties or like you certainly saw with Kareem Jackson.
I understand it was to Kareem's detriment, but you still
knew whe Kareem was and you felt his presence. So
the other thing that Sean Payton was asked about where
(09:52):
you're looking at personnel, is what's going on with any
Juasa Rique who showed some promise a rookie, including blocking
a Harrison Bucker field goal in the Broncos I want
to say, second game against the Chiefs, but then got
wrapped up in a huge gambling scandal that involved a
(10:12):
number of former Iowa State players and Iowa players and
all that. So he was completely suspended for a year,
but he was brought back and cleared and reinstated through
the through the league after the full year out of football.
Here Sean Payton on why they wanted any back in
the fold.
Speaker 2 (10:32):
Yeah, he's young, remember I you know, I only had
that mini camp, you know, in never the full training camp.
But he's a young player we drafted in look, and
he's handled this well. You know, he took full responsibility.
Speaker 1 (10:50):
Forward. We're in that period of time where.
Speaker 2 (10:52):
There's there's a there's a lot of mistakes being made
relative to the gambling and the gambling policy, and I
think the league and the communication that they provided with him,
were grateful for ownership here.
Speaker 1 (11:09):
You know, he was.
Speaker 2 (11:10):
He was out a year, and so our job now
is to make sure that you know, we're we're slow
to get him ready back because he's missed quite a bit.
But he was very remorseful and and uh and I
think that played a big part of it. You know,
I think he he understands certainly the mistake he made,
and he's really appreciative to be back here with this team.
Speaker 1 (11:33):
All that makes sense, the remorse and all that. Hey, Grant,
as it relates to any juaza Rique you want to
place a bet whether or not he has any gambling issues,
you soon, you soon. I guess if I'm sitting here
at the Pat Bowling Field House at Broncos Park, powered
by common Spirit, I should have a little more a
(11:55):
little more couth. I'm just having fun with him. Look,
we understand gambling's influence in sports for forever, been certainly
in recent decades, and we know in recent years it's
helped booths the economy. You can get into the downside
of of gambling. And I don't mean as it relates
to the NFL players and them either understanding the rules
(12:18):
or the handful that have the deal with problems, or
you look at Michael Porter, Junior's brother Johntay Porter with
the with the formerly with the Raptors banned for life,
and I think you will have those. But those are outliers,
those situations where players are really involved versus players that
are either stupid enough to And I don't know how
(12:41):
the policies are changing, and I haven't read that closely,
but like Jameson Williams from the Lions, he and other
handful of guys that got suspended, they were either placing
a bet inside the building on the team's Wi Fi,
on their phone, or even on the road. Teams have
secure Wi Fi when they stay in hotels if you
really want to, assuming that they're and they weren't in
(13:02):
trouble for betting on NFL games. I imagine they were
betting college football, either because they knew somebody, or they
just wanted to bet on their team or against somebody
or whatever it may be. But they did it and
that broke the rule. So that you know, that's kind
of what Sean referenced there when he talked about the
league and missteps, and you know there's growing pains, but
(13:24):
look at what gambling's done for for revenue generation in
all the states that it's been in, and Colorado's right there.
So while you certainly don't want anyone to lose a house,
lose job, lose a relationship because of it, I feel
like there's significantly more stories of friends that are betting,
(13:44):
some betting big, but I'm just betting here and there,
five here, twenty there, fifty there, one hundred there. Grant,
I imagine that that's the case in gambling has become
legal in so many states, you have if you were
to go through all of your friends that you know
bet on sports, are most of them kind of in
that somewhere between casual on a Monday night to make
a game more interesting, or a few things here and there,
(14:06):
versus the ones that are I mean, have you heard
any stories of anybody that you know, or even a
friend of a friend, that lost their house because of
legalized sports betting in a given state, Because I haven't. No.
Speaker 3 (14:17):
It's usually you know, a couple parlays on games that
they probably wouldn't be that interested in if they weren't
gambling on it, or you know, some bigger bets I
have heard, But you know that was on like Nathan
McKinnon and the Joker to win MVP and stuff like that.
Speaker 1 (14:32):
But I don't.
Speaker 3 (14:33):
I haven't heard of anyone that I know getting out
of control with it.
Speaker 1 (14:36):
And you can text us actually and I'll get the
text line fired up five six six, and I know
is a common spirit health text line. If you can
give me a story and I don't want to hear well,
I mean, you can share whatever story you want. I'm
not saying I'll read it on air, but I'd be curious,
just on average, how many people have friends are kind
of casual gamblers or even if they got themselves stuck
here there versus have you heard anyone whose life has
been destroyed? And I can get bugged down and if
(14:58):
the text do not work, they don't work. But my
point being, it feels like he certainly learned his lesson
to be this early in his career and then to
be to be out of football for a full year,
and then to have this chance to have his life,
you know, put that in quotes given back to him. Right,
You've got this plan. You're playing football, You're drafted in
the middle rounds, you make the team, they like you
(15:21):
as a rookie. You see the physical talent, and I
think injuries might have played a part two or an
injury concerns and why he dropped too, I want to
say the fourth round. But now he's back, and we
know there's four spots that are that are solidified on
the d line and that's obviously well, I guess I
can't say obviously DJ Jones, but I feel like DJ
Jones in the final year of his deal. He is
(15:42):
making around ten million bucks. But we know Zach Allen
and JFM, John Franklin Myers, we know about Malcolm Roach.
Then I think Matt Henningson's probably next. But there's spots
up for grabs, and there's a bunch of guys that
we see up front, D'Angelo Blackson, who when JFM had
to miss some practice because of a personal matter, was
(16:04):
firing into the backfield. And so I don't know if
they keep seven. I don't know if any would clear
waivers because of his talent, because of what he did
show as a rookie, So maybe that's you try to
clear Blackson and put him on practice squad. I don't
think Henningson would clear waivers either, but you're adding depth
and a quality athlete returning. We also had a chance
(16:26):
today to talk to Julia McLoughlin and Cody Barton, and
this is the first time that I had talked to
Cody Barton. I don't think he talked with us at
all in the spring. In fact, I know he didn't
during OTAs when they'll bring players over. He's in a
position battle for that starting inside linebacker spot opposite of
Josie Jewel, and it's he and Jonas Griffith really battling
(16:47):
for that after being really a special teams player last
year with Washington and certainly his first few years in
Seattle where he's got Bobby Wagner and kJ Wright in
front of him. But we keep hearing about the emphasis
on the run game and stopping the run. They weren't
good enough there. That's why d J. Jones was brought
in a couple of years ago, and we know that
that their run defense was just too inconsistent last year.
(17:09):
I want to play this for you also in part
just to kind of hear the type of guy Cody
Barton is and to hear his energy because it is infectious.
And when you get to hear from Malcolm Roach and
then you get to hear from Cody Barton, you realize, Okay,
when we lose high energy guys like Kareem Jackson, who
was certainly vocal, high energy, Justin Simmons a high energy guy.
His vocal leadership was more positive and less trash talking
(17:31):
than Kai jack is, where he's talking trash from the
second steps on the practice field to the second he
steps off. But you know, when you have those voids,
you need to fill them. And I don't know how
much the person I mean, Sean Payton knows Malcolm Roach's personality,
but I don't know how much personality played into it
with Cody Barton as much as they think, here's a
football player that just needs more opportunity to play inside linebackers.
(17:52):
So here's Cody Barton today talking about the emphasis on
stopping the run. Yeah, I've seen live for the Pions.
Like being a inside linebacker.
Speaker 4 (18:00):
A big thing is, you know, you gotta be able
to play the run game along with the deepest line
in those big office linemen, and he did in the
pass game and covering you know, those fast little guys.
Speaker 1 (18:08):
That the DBS are covering. You know, so you gotta
do the best of both.
Speaker 4 (18:11):
Worlds, and you know that kind of middle body type.
Speaker 1 (18:13):
You know, linebacker's all.
Speaker 4 (18:14):
You know, they want you all specially things as well,
and so you know linebacker body type wise, and were
you on the field, and you get a lot to
do a lot of things pass and run especially things.
Speaker 1 (18:23):
Wise as well.
Speaker 4 (18:24):
And you know the way seeds are kind of the
glue between the d line and the DBS and that
line of communication for both sides.
Speaker 1 (18:31):
Okay, so kind of talking through the role of the
inside linebacker. It starts with stopping the run, and we
get that, but coverage matters, and I could see a
scenario honestly where Ian Jonas griver A rotating to some
degree just depending on the situation, and even at times
one of them may be on the field instead of
Alex Singleton if the coaching staff and Vance Joseph and
John Payton feel like they're better in coverage perhaps in
(18:55):
obvious passing situations than Alex Hingleton is. Perhaps, So we
can continue to look at where things are with camp
and where it's headed, and we're certainly going to get
into the bon Nick stuff. Got a fun show. Parker
Gabriel from the Post is going to join me around
eight o'clock. Romiy Bean is going to join me around
seven thirty. But when we come back, as I mentioned earlier,
(19:17):
not only at the Hall of Fame, but I got
to sit down with Randy Gratishar yesterday before he went
over to this Hall of Fame roundtable and just kind
of recap the weekend and get some of his highlights.
So don't go anywhere because you're going to want to
hear that. We are broadcasting from the that bowling Field
House at Broncos Park, powered by Common Spirit. The show
is called Broncos Country Night. I am Brandon Christall in
(19:39):
for Benjamin Albright on KOA fifty ninety four one FM.
It is Broncos Country Tonight. No Benjamin alright, he was
on KOA Sports earlier. I am Brandon Christall hanging with
you all night long, and I want to let you
know that we started today giving away a chance to
win season tickets for this upcoming twenty twenty four Broncos campaign,
(20:04):
and we're doing on every show every day you can
enter for a chance to win. So that's gonna come
up here at six forty five, so keep listening, and
at six forty five we will give you that opportunity
to win, but that's after we play our Randy gratish
our chat. And like I mentioned, I was in Canton again,
one of just two media members to be there. But
we are the Broncos station have been for fifty five years,
(20:26):
and so I had a chance to sit down with
the newest Broncos Hall of Famer after the Gold Jacket
dinner and the luncheon with just the Hall of famers
and the parade, and then of course the enshrinement ceremony
and the speech which I think Randy knocked out of
the park, and then the Broncos party, which really seemed
like a family reunion. Every other person I talked to
was related to Randy. Someme had name tax sing, Randy's cousin,
(20:48):
Randy's this, Randy's at So it's really cool and I
was so lucky to be able to be just a
small part of it and be able to just witness
it kind of right up close and get to talk
to us many those great Orange Crush players as well,
just in passing and all that. And so here is
my chat with the Broncos newest Hall of Famer. Long overdue.
(21:09):
It's Randy Radish are and me in Canton. Well, Randy
is Hall of Fame weekend is winding down. Has it
met your expectations? Exceeded? Then how's it gone?
Speaker 5 (21:19):
Well, it's uh, it's been going great and it's uh certainly,
uh exceeded all my expectations. What you what you think
of a weekend? And uh, similar the things you've been
told by some other people and and just the human
expection of what you're expecting is going to be happening
and uh, and it's all and it's been much much
(21:42):
more than what I ever expected. And uh, you know,
the great thing about it is is just meeting the
people and having the opportunity to visit with them and
finding out about themselves and uh and then uh, even
like last night at our party, of meeting family and
friends that I haven't seen for forty or fifty years,
(22:04):
kind of thing in trying to remember their name.
Speaker 1 (22:06):
So it was great. Well, and I was lucky enough
to get to tag along with you and Tom Jackson
for the parade. I was surprised that neither of you
guys ever been in a parade. You have the champion
high school band and plenty people along the parade route
that certainly either know you or you know their siblings,
and then of course cheered for you. Ohio State.
Speaker 5 (22:25):
Yeah, well that that parade was very, very exciting. It's
the first time I've been in a parade like that
where I think they said there's a you know, we're
like over one hundred thousand people there at the parade
sitting and watching and cheering, and you know, it was
just great for Tom and I. I mean we just
(22:45):
had a ball and you know, yelling out, you cheer
for the Broncos, you cheer for the buck guys, you
know who you're cheering for kind of thing, and having
some fun and waving to the kids and having some
enjoyment with those guys, and then also having the opportunity
(23:06):
I didn't meet the people in my Champion Flasher's band
when I'm from Champion, Ohio and the band was there
representing me and being part of the parade, but just
walking through all of the band members prior to the
parade was just amazing. And I had a great conversation
(23:28):
with the principal who's from Champion, and I'm going to
make some arrangements and eventually.
Speaker 1 (23:38):
Go back to Champion and say hello, that'll be great,
and so many Broncos fans and Buckeye'es fans that made it.
They withstood the weather. I know that it obviously changed
the day a little bit, but just what you how'd
you feel about your speech, which everybody thinks that you
nailed and everything related to the ensignement.
Speaker 5 (23:54):
Specifically, Well, let you know, certainly the weather, I guess
was an issue or whatever, but you know, when you've
been a former football player and all that stuff, you
don't think that whether it's an issue. You know, you
just Okay, this is what we got to do, and
we're going to do it.
Speaker 1 (24:10):
And so.
Speaker 5 (24:12):
Being out there in the stadium and participating and being
a participant and watching the other guys and then finally having.
Speaker 1 (24:23):
The opportunity to give my speech, I just.
Speaker 5 (24:26):
Really felt blessed in order to be.
Speaker 1 (24:28):
Able to be part of that.
Speaker 5 (24:31):
Actually now going into the Pro Football Hall of Fame
in the class of twenty twenty four and just looking
forward to now.
Speaker 1 (24:41):
Being in there for a long long time.
Speaker 5 (24:45):
And that's sort of all you always hear about and
the guys who are doing and then you know the
guys who were there, the older guys who were there,
have been there, you know, talking to them and them
congratulating us, and so it's a great certainly a great
family atmosphere for sure, and looking forward to spending many,
(25:08):
many years coming back to Canton.
Speaker 1 (25:10):
And then finally, when do you think you get to
exhale and take a breath and just kind of relax
and let it all sink in and reflect on the weekend.
Speaker 5 (25:18):
Well, that's we're going to be here still today and
then we're going to be heading back to Denver tomorrow
afternoon or late afternoon. So it'll take a little time
to digest this last few days here because it's been
certainly it's kind.
Speaker 1 (25:39):
Of like that ten to twelve hour day.
Speaker 5 (25:41):
That you go through and I don't consider it work.
I mean, there's certainly a lot of fun and meeting
people and all that, but you know, just having that
opportunity to be around a lot of people, talking to
them and sharing life's experiences and Bronco experiences. And again,
(26:04):
like again last night, meeting many many friends that haven't seen.
Speaker 1 (26:08):
For forty or fifty years. That was pretty exciting. Yeah,
everybody in Broncos country, he knows, as long overdue knows.
The Orange Crush. Getting represented the Hall of Fame's long
overdue and it was, like all of the Hall of
Fame weekends really special, but I think even more special
for so many Broncos thas've been pulling for you for
thirty five years, and the fact that it's just down
the street from where you grew up. It's been awesome.
I hope you had as much fun as we had
(26:29):
as much fun covering well.
Speaker 5 (26:31):
Certainly did and certainly look forward to the rest of
this day and then for whatever.
Speaker 1 (26:37):
The future is going to hold with the Hall of Fame.
Speaker 5 (26:40):
I've already been getting excited about that, so you know,
once you're in, you're in for good. So I'm very,
very glad about that and very blessed to be in
this position of being into the Pro Football Hall of Fame.
Speaker 1 (26:56):
Thanks Randy, thank you, and have it getting to talk
to Randy Gratish are in Canton. He was wearing his
gold jacket. He was headed over to the round table
where he in the new Hall of Famers. It's kind
of a Q and a that richies and hosts. It's
really cool. I went when Steve was enshrined a couple
(27:17):
of years ago, and the one question that they ask
everybody is who's not in the Hall of Fame that
should be? And he said he had a list of
a bunch of guys, but they were all members of
the Orange Crush. And I think it's some of those
names that we talked about, Tom Jackson and of course
Louis Wright and Billy Thompson, among others. So I mean
(27:37):
Carl Mecklenberg, you know, he came a little later. He
should be on that list. And a Smith. We we
could just keep going, right, there's so many Broncos. Rod
Smith I think deserves to be here. Steve Attwater will
tell you, and it's funny because broadcasting here from the
radio studio, Steve Atwater's office is just around the corner.
And Steve will tell you that he thinks Dennis Smith
was a better player that he.
Speaker 2 (27:59):
Is.
Speaker 1 (28:00):
You know, Steve knows that he's a good player. He's
not trying to shortchange himself. He just thinks that Dennis
Smith is better than he was. And he loves Dennis Smith,
which is why Dennis presented him at the Hall of Fame.
And so hopefully more and more Broncos are representative. The
Bears have thirty four representatives in the Hall of Fame.
A bunch of cowboys, a bunch of Niners, a bunch
of Steelers, but the Broncos have been too good for
(28:21):
too long to not have more representation, more orange and
blue there in Canton. I said, we are going to
enter you for a chance to win season tickets for
this entire twenty twenty four year. We will do that
in just a short while, a couple of minutes on
the other side, I promise, right when we get back.
Speaker 5 (28:40):
It will take a little time to digest this last
few days here, you know, just having that opportunity to
be around a lot of people talking to them and
they sharing life's experiences and Bronco experiences, and last night
and meeting many many friends that haven't seen.
Speaker 1 (29:01):
For forty or fifty years.
Speaker 5 (29:03):
That was pretty exciting.
Speaker 1 (29:05):
Randy gratishar the Broncos newest Hall of Famer. They're in
Canton yesterday and you can hear that entire interview. We'll
have it posted online as well as I'm gonna play
it again a little later here on Broncos Country Night,
probably around eight thirty five, and then maybe even again
around ten thirty five. So if you love Randy gratishar
on ones keep hearing me talk to him, then that
(29:27):
would be how you can hear more of that. But
this show is Broncos Country Night. I'm Brandon Krystal, and
as promised, i'd said six forty five, both commercials and
all that, we'll call it six fifty one. We know
that Randy war number fifty three for the majority of
his career. But here's your trivia question. Okay, we'll do
the first person they can call into three oh three
(29:50):
seven to one, three eight five, eight five. And this
actually came up on Ross's show as well. They can
tell me the other number Randy War with the Broncos
that I didn't even realize until seeing some highlights over
the weekend. And so now I know the answer to
that trivia question, and you will hear too. Three ZHO
three seven to one, three eight five, eight five. You
will be entered for eight chance to win season tickets
(30:14):
this year to watch your Denver Broncos. We've started today
and we will do this all the way through September sixth.
On every show we will enter a listener for a
chance to win season tickets. So do that right now,
call three oh three, seven, one, three, eight, five, eight five.
What other jersey number did Randy wear other than fifty
(30:37):
three with the Broncos. And your next chance to enter
is tomorrow between eight thirty nine in the morning with
Colorado's Morning News, So be tuned in and I will
maybe have a trivia question for you, maybe just ask
for a caller number or maybe some other fun way
to give away your chance to one where we're doing
it every day really for the next month, on every show,
so it's gonna be really cool and it'll be really
(30:58):
fun when then we did it as well when somebody
gets season tickets, because we know how hard they are
to come by with eighty thousand people on the waiting list,
and you know that your chance to get in there
isn't isn't promised anytime soon, so hopefully somebody is called
in to grant and you will maybe be if you're
(31:19):
listening to the show right now, maybe you will be
the winner of the season tickets when we draw the
name at random here after we and the contest in
a month. So it's gonna be fun every day, every
show because we are the only station doing that for
you here in the Mile High City. Again Brandon chryssol
(31:42):
in for Benjamin Albright. You can call me if you want,
uh WEO three seven to one, three eight, five eight five.
You can text five six six. I know that to
get the text line fired up. And today we got
to talk to Cody Barton for the first time. We
also had Julia McLoughlin at the podium, and he's a
really fascinating kid. He has Ohio ties. He played at
(32:05):
Notre Dame College and then at Youngstown State right there
in Ohio, and so Notre Dame colleges in South Euclid.
I don't think he even has his Division two. I
don't think he even has a team anymore. Youngstown State
certainly they're right on the basically eastern Ohio Pennsylvania border.
(32:26):
And he's a kid that you know, maybe he's not
from that part of the world. He's from North Carolina,
but you talk about a blue collar guy. I have
to do the updates every morning, and I get to
do him from our tent here at the on the
practice field at Bronco's Park, Power by Common Spirit, and
so my first updates at five to ten and Julia McLoughlin,
(32:48):
his car is in the parking lot. He beats me here,
the only person in the building when he gets here.
He beats all the coaches, he beat Russell Wilson last
year and anyone else. It's just the twenty four hour
security guard or security guards. Those are the only people
that are here when Julian McLoughlin gets to the Broncos facility.
That's just the way he's wired. He has had to
(33:09):
scratching claw for everything. He was a really good track star,
and we saw his speed on display last year and
we're seeing it again here in training camp. But in
order for him to stay on the field more and
really battle for even more meaningful snaps, return to that
joker player that we always hear Sean Payton talk about.
In his offense, he's gonna have to show that he
(33:29):
can not only run routes and be an even sharper
route runner and catch the ball out of the backfield,
something he's been really working on, but also be able
to read the defense and pick up a blitz against
the guy that's almost certainly going to be bigger than him.
I mean, he's five eight one eight seven and as
somebody who's five eight one seventy two to one seventy five,
(33:51):
depending on how many Chibotele burritos I have. I don't
want to block linebackers coming off the edge or safety's
fire and in and I realized I'm not a twenty
three year old NFL player. But my point being, he's
just smaller and stature, even though he's a big dude
and all of that. It's fun to watch him get
his workouts. And in the morning when we're sitting there,
(34:13):
he's running stairs, he's running the hill, he's circling the field,
and then he's obviously in the weight room and getting
some extra film studying as well and recovery. So we'll
hear from Julio coming up on the other side. We'll
also hear from Adam Troupman. He talked over the weekend.
Jaquan McMillan did as well. I talked to both DeMarcus
(34:33):
Ware and Tom Jackson in Canton, so we'll hear that
romy Bean is going to join us, Parker Gabriel is
going to join us a little later as well. So
plenty to get to here. On a jam Pack show
on Broncos Country tonight again in for Benjamin Albright, I'm
Brandon Chris Stall coming to you from the broadcast studios
(34:57):
in the Pat bowlan field house at Broncos Park, powered
by Common Spirit, and got plenty more coming your way
here on this rainy night. I was happy to be
able to get called in from the bullpen and sub
in for Ben who was subbing in on Broncos Country Tonight.
(35:18):
So we're gonna step aside quickly, and then plenty more
including roam Bean coming up at seven point thirty five. Again.
I'm BK, and you're listening to Broncos Country Night on
KOA five pm, Men ninety four one
