Speaker 1 (00:00):
Well, I've been to it.

Speaker 2 (00:00):
Broncos Country Tonight, short show tonight obviously post Rockies edition.

Speaker 1 (00:05):
But I'll right here with you.

Speaker 2 (00:07):
Five six six nine zero is the text line. You
guys having a good evening. It's been nice and.

Speaker 1 (00:13):
Cool last couple of days. It's been nice.

Speaker 2 (00:16):
We've got some uh, we've got some Broncos news. Jared
Stidham will be starting against the Indianapolis Colts on Sunday.
Bo Nix will start the following week, and it looks
like we'll have plenty of tape to determine who should
start the final preseason game and or week one of
the preseason regular season against Seattle in Seattle. Got a

(00:41):
lot of other stuff to get to as well, but
that seems to be the big news right now is
that bow Nicks is not going to be starting against
the Colts. It will indeed be Jared Stidham. There's uh,
excuse me, a couple of uh, a couple of things

(01:01):
with that. I don't think it's that big a deal.
I don't think it's you know, I don't think it's
an issue either way. I think they're trying to get
tape on this. You'll get more reps for bow in
the Colts game because he'll be playing with the two's
and get a chance to sort of see him in
some some situations that you want to see him in

(01:23):
to see if he's ready or not. So that'll be, uh.

Speaker 1 (01:31):
That'll be something to keep our eye on. What is Bo?

Speaker 2 (01:37):
What what does Bo get in terms of reps in
this game. Zach Wilson will be the third that was
announced as well, the third quarterback out there, so we'll
see how that goes with both those guys.

Speaker 1 (01:50):
As well.

Speaker 2 (01:51):
Is Zach I mean, you know, I hope he does well,
we'll just put it that way. Knicks will be the
first quarterback off the bench after Stidham exits, and that's
probably going to be somewhere in the second quarter. The
Peyton did indicate that he could get some reps with

(02:11):
the first string offense, so they could play several starters
well into the first half.

Speaker 1 (02:18):
In this game. We'll sort of see how that shakes out.

Speaker 2 (02:20):
Obviously, the game will be carried live here on KOA
on Sunday, You're exclusive home with the Denver Broncos. The
third game is still is still up in the air,
but yeah, Jared's going to start against the Colts and
bow will start against the Packers, and you know, we'll
get plenty of tape on both and everybody be able

(02:43):
to see exactly where everybody is, So we'll we'll go
from there. Five six, six, nine zeros of text line.
You guys want to get involved in the conversation. The
Brandon Ayuk situation took a turn today. Brandon and a
Yuk recently had a sit down meeting with Kyle Shanahan

(03:04):
and others in the organization.

Speaker 1 (03:06):
There was some.

Speaker 2 (03:07):
Open, candid dialogue, thoughts were expressed. Both sides have since
restarted negotiations on a long term deal, and there is
some optimism that I could remain in San Francisco. The
Browns and Patriots, who had both been pursuing Ayuk. The
Browns are under the impression that they're completely unlikely to

(03:29):
acquire him, so they're basically pulled out of that situation.
The Patriots, who released Juju Smith Schuster today, by the way,
may still believe that they're in it, although probably not,
as the Steelers did not offer the Niners enough for
them to make the deal and the Niners have re

(03:51):
engaged on trade talks. Or excuse me, extension talks with
Brandon Ayuk as it were, well, that sort of probably
brings an end to this saga, which is interesting because
it started the week with multiple Internet rumors and I'm
not gonna call them reports because it's not credible. People

(04:13):
an account called pretty Ricky on Twitter, which is obviously
a pseudonym, that uses a dog with a ball cap
on it as an avatar that people claim is out
in front of a bunch of stories, and you know,
the reality is they sort of are, but not really.
And and then you know, claiming things are done and
they're not, and so that's you know that that's really.

Speaker 1 (04:37):
The thing at the end of the day.

Speaker 2 (04:38):
I mean, the people claiming that this was a done
deal were laughably wrong, the same as they were with
the Ceedee Lamb contract. They claim it was done, and
so that's.

Speaker 1 (04:50):
You know, it's just be careful where you get your news,
That's what I'll say.

Speaker 2 (04:56):
Be careful where you get your news because a lot
of these things aren't credible. A lot of these things
that you see out there just are not credible. And
you know, you see so much in the news today
where people don't doubt journalism as a whole and uh,
you know, I work in this industry. I understand how
some of those doubts have come about because, you know,
capital j journalism got in bed with uh, you know,

(05:20):
they're subjects in a sense for access journalism and and
that's a different kind of journalism, but uh, in an
effort to you know, do that, and and so it
really is created. And I don't want to get too
far out of political here, but we we all lost
when the politicians convinced the public that the journalists were

(05:42):
the bad guys. And I realized that it's self serving
because I work in this industry, but they're not. You know,
the journalists are the watchdogs for the politicians. And so
when I say that they got in bed with the
politicians for access journalism, all they're doing now is a
form of pr They're not doing journalism. Journalism is printing
that which someone else does not want you to know.
Everything else is public relations. And so I think at

(06:05):
the end of the day, what I'm long story short
here trying to say is there are credible institutions that
have editorial review processes, and random person on Twitter counting
themselves as citizen journalist is not actually a journalist. If
you don't have anyone keeping you accountable, you're not. And
I'm sorry if that offends somebody. If there's somebody listening

(06:25):
right now, who does you know runs a blog or
a podcast or whatever and all that kind of stuff,
if you do not have someone who has editorial uh
an editorial control over your content and is accountable for that,
in accountability for that cutting i e. When you are wrong,
then you're not. And so that that's what I mean

(06:48):
by credibility. So when you're when you're out here and
you're looking at Twitter accounts called pretty ricky, there are
shotgunning Internet rumors out there about Ceedee Lamb's contract being
done three weeks ago and a trade with the Steelers
being done. You know a week ago you had to
file that under rumor. There may be they may have
a bread crumb of information, but the reality is they
don't have the story. And so that's why you get

(07:09):
stuff like this where people you know, sort of embarrass
themselves saying that something is done when it quite clearly
is not. Speaking of Ceedee Lamb, Jerry Jones was making
headlines yesterday with this no urgency quote about Ceedee Lamb's contract.
Stephen Jones was trying to reassure Cowboys fans that he
isn't going anywhere. Jones joined the Doomsday Podcast and said

(07:33):
negotiations are cordial between the Cowboys and Lamb's agent, who
just returned from the Paris Olympics this week, saying we
think the world of CD, and we understand where he's
coming from on this and why he's not here, but
we also continue to work very hard on.

Speaker 1 (07:48):
Getting this deal done.

Speaker 2 (07:49):
Zero zero zero thought process of not having CD be
a Dallas Cowboys ceed. He's not going to be playing
anywhere but Dallas, but we want this to be a
great situation for him when we're all said and done,
but also a good situation where we can put a
good football team on the field. Jones said what he
said on Thursday, and even if some Cowboys fans want
to blame the messenger and not the message, it's the

(08:10):
owner's own fault that is quote about the sides making
a real progress on a deal was lost in the
No Urgency headline. It's kind of also Jerry Jones' fault
that Lamb scrubbed America's team from his social and quoted
him with an lol The Cowboys have not seen Lamb
since the end of last season. He's holding out seeking
a long term contract. Stephen Jones says he feels good

(08:31):
about the negotiations, saying, quote, what are your reports which
we certainly believe you will at some point, hopefully with
a new contract. We continue to make progress. Lamb scheduled
to make seventeen point nine to nine to one million
on the fifth year option after playing last season for
a base salary of two point five to two million.
Coming off a career year when he made a league
leading one hundred and thirty five catches for seventeen hundred

(08:53):
and forty nine yards and twelve touchdowns in earning All
Pro honors for the first time, the forty nine Ers
released veteran tight end Logan Thomas today. Thomas was a
former quarterback at fifty five catches four hundred ninety six
yards four touchdowns last season for the Commanders. So also
played for the Lions, Bills, and Cardinals, totaling two hundred

(09:14):
and nine receptions for two thousand and two yards and
sixteen touchdowns in ninety four games. Thomas, who is thirty three,
injured hamstring early in camp. The Niners announced that they
placed defensive lineman Austin Bryant on iour as well. Brian
injured his lower leg in Wednesday's practice. The team used
the roster spots to sign defensi ven Jonathan Garvin and

(09:37):
punter Presley Harvin the third to one year deals. Garvin
entered the NFL as a seventh round pick of the
Packers back in twenty twenty and three years in Green Bay,
appeared in thirty eight games, one start, thirty two tackles,
two pass defenses in a sack and a half. Also
spent the spring with the Birmingham Stallions of the USFL,
where he totaled nineteen tackles in three and a half sacks.

(09:59):
Presley Arvin was the seventh round pick of the Steelers
in twenty twenty one. In his three seasons in Pittsburgh,
appeared in forty seven games, recording two hundred and seventeen
punts for ninety seven excuse me, nine thousand, four hundred
seventy three yards, which is a forty three point seven average.
Talked a little bit last night about the show cause
order that the NCAA has issued to former Michigan coach

(10:22):
current Chargers coach jump Harball today, Michigan thumb their nose, added,
I guess. Aaron McMahon of mlive dot com said, Michigan's
got to bring Harball back on August thirty first to
serve as an honorary captain for its home opener. I
look forward to having him back in ann arbor, Michigan
Athletic director Ward Manual said this week. The NCAA's four

(10:44):
year sanction against Harball rises from an allegation that he
violated the COVID dead period recruiting rules. He wasn't truthful
in denying his role in the violations. Arball and others,
including Michigan head coach Ron Moore, reportedly faced separate discipline
over the Hunter Stallion's sign stealing scheme, which is a

(11:07):
cluster of epic proportions as Michigan took something that is
legally permissible and found a way to do it illegally.
The plan to return to campus as a conquering hero
becomes the latest sort of middle finger by Harbaugh to
the NCAA. Which is fine if Harbaugh never plans to
coach another college program. It's not fine if Harbaugh's stirring

(11:30):
of the college level beehive results in a kind of
stick being poked at the NFL's nest of hornets. League
has taken action against folks who escaped NCAA punishment in
the past, including former Ohio State coach Jim Tressel and
former Ohio State player Torell Prior. Last year, the NFL's
in house media company reported the league could impose some
sort of sanctions on Harball. This week, the NFL told

(11:52):
Pro Football Talk that it had no comment on the matter. Harball,
who has no apparent concern about or regard for the
ca at this point, needs to at least be mildly
concerned about the possibility the NCAA saying to the NFLA
we take high high school football players and separate wee
from the chef. Doesn't cost you a dime. We'd appreciate
it if you'd do something with this guy thinks he

(12:13):
can flip us off with impunity, and we will see
what becomes of the Harball situation there as he continues
to just not care. I guess what else said and done.
Giants head coach Brian Dable said today that the team
may need to sign a quarterback because the injury Drew

(12:36):
lock suffered in Thursday's preseason opener, may keep him out
for more than a couple of days. An update on
Locke's condition makes it sound likely or the team will
be adding a player to the group. Locke's injury was
announced as a hip issue, and Ian Rapaport of NFL
Media reports that it has been diagnosed with a bone
contusion and a strained oblique. Locke does not need surgery, but,

(12:57):
per the report, is expected to miss some time. The
Giants currently have Locke and Tommy DeVito behind Daniel Jones.
They might be in the market for more help even
if they weren't doing everything they can to bring Jones
back from his torn acl without any setbacks. There probably
will be a new arrival on the roster here in

(13:19):
the near future. Dak Prescott didn't practice today due to
ankle soreness. Friday's practice and training camp was missing Prescott.
Wide receiver Ceed Lamb's been absent for all of camps
he looks for a new contract, but quarterback Dak Prescott
been with the team for every practice despite being in
the market for a deal of his own. Prescott missed

(13:39):
Friday's session and told the team reporters that he is
dealing with some ankle Soortis team also said it's a
precautionary move. There's not any concern about serious injury. Prescott
was seen in a walking boot on his right ankle,
the one he fractured several years ago during the off season,
but said it was absolutely nothing to worry about. Prescott
told Clarence Hill of the Fort Worth Stark Telegram that

(14:00):
he's not wearing a boot now. The Cowboys face the
Rams and their preseason open on Sunday. Cooper Russian Trey
Lancer taking the snaps in Prescott's place in practice Friday
and figured to do the same this weekend. Brown's special
team coach doesn't plan to show much of his kickoff
strategy in the preseason, and we've sort of seen that
teams are not showing much of that. The NFL's new

(14:23):
and allegedly dynamic kickoff rules haven't produced much excitement thus far,
but maybe by design. Brown Special teams coordinator Bubba the
Trones said he and other coaches run the league are
going decidedly vanilla in their kickoffs because they don't want
to give their regular season opponents any ideas. The troll
via Cleveland dot Com said I don't think I'll show
too much. The troll thinks that if a coach has

(14:44):
a unique kickoff or return strategy that he's confident will work,
he'd be foolish to give it away before games count,
saying quote, I don't anticipate a lot of I would
say variety and schemes showing up in these games. I
think coaches and teams are going to save a lot
of their schemes schematics for the regular season. I don't
think you'll see a lot of variety in the preseason games.
For that, we will have to wait for Week one.

(15:07):
The New England Patriots released wide receiver Juju Smith Schuster,
so there will be a veteran receiver hitting the open market.
Smith Schuster, twenty seven, signed a three year deal with
New England in the twenty twenty three offseason, but New
England didn't get much of her turn on its investment.
Is Smith Schuster caught just twenty nine passes for two
hundred and sixty yards and one touchdown in eleven games.

(15:27):
The Patriots were cleared a dead cap charge of nine
point six million this year two point six the next year.
By making it public. There's a chance the team could
swoop in and try and trade, but with a guaranteed
salary of seven million, that seems sort of unlikely. Smith
Schuster spent his first five seasons with the Steelers or
joining the Chiefs, helping the club win the Super Bowl.
He caught seventy eight passes nine hundred and thirty three

(15:48):
yards three touchdowns with Kansas City that season. Broncos Country Tonight,

(16:48):
Kawait ninety four, one of M News Talk Sports. Welcome
back to it, Brocos Country Tonight. It's been all right
here with you. Grant Smith back there behind the glass,
sixty nine Zeros a tax Line. Appreciate you guys hanging
in with us late tonight. New England Patriots made their

(17:11):
Bill belichicklist's debut last night. Drake may the third overall
pick in the twenty twenty four draft, played one series
in his debut with New England.

Speaker 1 (17:20):
Patriots played the.

Speaker 2 (17:21):
First game in twenty four years without Bill Belichick as coach,
beating the Carolina Panthers seventeen to three in the preseason game.
New England's new coach, thirty eight year old Gerrod Mayo,
dressed in a white, short sleeve Patriots pull over, became
the NFL's youngest coach when he was hired on January twelfth,
one day after Belichick agreed to depart his coach and

(17:43):
left the organization. So first time since January second, two
thousand that the Patriots played without Belichick on the sideline
led them to six Super Bowl titles. Girard Mayo, the
head coach, was fourteen at the time. Someone else was
last coaching the Patriots. It was always the plan, Mayo said,

(18:06):
of Drake May's short stint. The plan was to get
him in there for one series. Carolina also played its
first game under a new coach, with Dave Canalis making
his debut franchise a seventh head coach there. Tonight was
about our first time guys, the rookies, the guys that
haven't had a chance to play in the NFL. I
think they found out tonight is it's just football. They
ran and played hard, Canalos said, after not playing any

(18:28):
of his first teamers. For me, it was a great
opportunity to be able to talk to the coaches officials.
So it's just great reps for me to get through
the flow of how communication happens, being able to work
through all that. Panthers quarterback Bryce Young, the top pick
of the twenty twenty three draft, didn't play and projected
back up eighty Dalton was sidelined with straining quadricep. Drake
May trotted on the field with a light rain falling

(18:49):
for the Patriots' second series and got a nice ovation
from a rather sparse crowd. Completed his first attempt to
screen to Antonio Gibson for a thirteen yard pickup, ending
his nights two of the three for nineteen yards. May
after the game set I think it was a little nervous.
I think if you're not getting nervous, then it doesn't
mean something for you. That's how I look at it.
I think nerves are a good thing. After you get

(19:10):
that first snap, they blow the whistle at the end
of the play to kind of settle in. The crowd
booed when Bailey Zappy came out of the field for
the Patriots' third series. Probable season opening starter Jacoby Burssett
win oh for three in the first series.

Speaker 1 (19:23):
When it was.

Speaker 2 (19:24):
Happening the opposite way, it really didn't bother me, said Zappi,
who was a fan favorite last season when many wanted
former Pat's quarterback Mac Jones benched what's happening this way
doesn't bother me at all either, Zapi, you played a
good portion of last year, went twelve of twenty four
hundred and eight yards. Rookie Joe Milton the Third, a
sixth round pick from Tennessee, played the final quarter and
a half, thrilling the crowd with a couple of scrambles.

(19:45):
It was four or six or fifty four yards, including
a thirty eight yard touchdown. Jack Plumber completed eleven of
twenty one yards for eighty six eleven to twenty passes
excuse me for eighty six yards to the Panthers, and
Mike Boone won of seven running back currently on the roster,
head eight carries for thirty four yards. For some Patriots fans,
not seeing Belichick on the sideline felt a bit unusual. Uh.

(20:08):
Sixty one year old friend Vesino said, it is different.
That's why we're here tonight because I want to see
what we've got, said Patriots season tickets for the last
ten years. In a matchup of the NFL's twest lowest
scoring teams, they both averaged thirteen point nine points. Last year,
New England took a seven er lead on Kevin Harris's
two yard TV run midway through the second quarter after
Zappi hit kay Shan Boudy with a twenty eight yard

(20:30):
tossed on the left sideline. Carolina finished with the worst
record in the league last year, going two and fifteen.
Patriots tied for second worst four and thirteen with Washington.
Patriots corner Christian Gonzales, twenty three first round pick who
had his promising rookie season cut short by a shoulder injury,
started and played the opening two series. Panthers defensive tackle

(20:52):
Jayden Cramede sufvered an ankle injury, and right tackle Barada
Trourore hurt his knee. Patriots didn't have any announced injuries.
The Panthers host the Jets in their second preseason game
on August seventeenth, and the Jets are the NFL's biggest wildcard.

(21:13):
You know, everyone knows what happened to Jets last year.
Rodgers acquired Summer of hope and that it was over
in four plays. The jets ceiling was immediately capped do
the quarterback play and they finished with a seven to
ten record thanks to one of the best defenses in football.
And they try again on face value. The roster appears
to be among the league best, but it's hard to
proclaim how the season will go for the Jets, and

(21:34):
as good as the team looks, there are still a
few unknowns that will influence a season that essentially must
end in a playoff appearance. Starting with Rogers, it's impossible
to project what Rogers will be this season. He's forty
years old, coming off an achilles tear, and the most
recent full season he played in twenty twenty two showed
a decline from his back to back MVP seasons in

(21:55):
twenty and twenty one. According to RBSDM dot com, Rogers
rank first and expected points added per drop back point
three to one over the combined twenty and twenty one seasons.
In twenty twenty two, that figure fell to twenty first,
where he was sandwiched in between Andy Dalton and Justin Fields.
Then he tore his achilles four plays into the following season.

(22:17):
It's been almost three years since Rogers played like an
elite quarterback and almost two years since Rodgers really played
at all. He's forty, and given his expertise and overall
skill for the position, no one should be surprised if
he puts together a strong season. However, if he struggles,
given everything he's had endure over the past couple of years,
that wouldn't necessarily be surprising either. He's a real wild
card that throws a huge wrench and trying to predict

(22:38):
what's possible for this team, it's true weight and see scenario.
The pieces around the Rodgers are talented leave questions as well.
Garrett Wilson is a bona fide star at wide receiver,
but the Jets still need Mike Williams to return to
form coming off an acl tear, Alan Lazar to give
them something after a terrible twenty twenty three season, and
one of their young receivers to step up and contribute.

(23:00):
Same can be said for left tackle Tyron Smith, who's
still effective when healthy, but has played in only thirty
games since the start of the twenty twenty season. To
be fair, he played in thirteen last season was selected
second team All Pro, so maybe not as big a concern.
Brice Hall is a monster and Braylen Allen has a
chance to be a fantastic running back two. The defense

(23:22):
should be good there barring catastrophe, the Jets might not
be quite as strong as they were up front a
season ago. They lost Bryce Huff and John Franklin Myers.
Quentin Williams and Hassan Redick if he ends this holdout,
are a great duo. The Jets have arguably the best
corner trio in the league. Their linebacker room is pretty
strong as well. This comes down to the quality of
play at quarterback and the pieces around that quarterback Aaron

(23:45):
Rodgers staying healthy enough to contribute. Anything could happen for
this year's Jets. Anything from seven wins to a super
Bowl is where the pundits have them predicted. As the
season gets closer, teams are going to be figuring out
their depth charts which players they want to play during
the season. That process starts at you at the beginning

(24:09):
of camp, but it goes throughout the entire preseason over
the next couple of weeks. Onofficial depth charts coming out,
We've already seen them here in Denver, It's seem bewildering
at first glance. Bo Nix, who has been praised by
Broncos head coach Sean Payton, currently at third on the
Broncos depth chart and isn't going to start till the
second preseason game. Falcons tight An Kyle Pitts list is

(24:29):
a backup on the Falcons unofficial depth chart.

Speaker 1 (24:35):
They don't really mean anything.

Speaker 2 (24:37):
It's more just a respect to order the players who
have already been with the team. It really just generally
affects rookies. Every once in a while you'll see the
team like the Bears come out in May and just
say Killer.

Speaker 1 (24:47):
Williams ore starter.

Speaker 2 (24:47):
But even the number one overall draft picks don't always
get that runway coming into the league. Trevor Lawrence, Justin Herbert,
Jery Goff, Baker Mayfield all had to play the unofficial
depth chart musical chairs game, and those guys all still
started the vast majority of their rookie year, or in
the entire season in Lawrence's case, just what NFL teams do.

(25:08):
So it might be funny if you're a Raiders are
Chiefs fan and poke fun at the Broncos for Nicks
being QB three on the depth chart, but everybody knows
that he'll be the starter at some point, just maybe
not the first week of August obviously, So don't overreact
to these depth charts again as we see them. We've
we've already had an announcement from Sean Payton that Bownicks

(25:28):
will be starting in the second preseason game. One of
the things I've been wanting to talk about, I touched
on it briefly with Nick and Steve last night was
the NFL one hundred list, which is it is absolute nonsense.
At this point, it's rage bait, it's clickbait, it is
absolute nonsense. The NFL one hundred list was released recently

(25:53):
and once again, it's it's just stupid.

Speaker 1 (25:56):
Patrick Mahomes.

Speaker 2 (25:57):
I believe they ranked him fourth in this one, behind
Christian McCaffrey, Lamar Jackson, and Tyreek Hill, and it's just ridiculous.
There's nobody on earth that's taking Lamar Jackson over Patrick Mahomes, nobody,
not even Lamar Jackson. So I you know, I mean,
I've seen NFL players fill this thing out. Most of
them put their buddies and teammates on the list, and

(26:18):
you have a couple of consensus elite players at the top,
and it's not something that dudes sit there really spend
a great deal of time on. But at this point,
with Mahomes being the fourth best player on this list,
it's it's just stupid. And I get people are say,
why do you carer He's still number four, but come on,

(26:40):
isn't honestly important. Mahomes is the clear cut best player
in the league, and he should be number one on
this list every single year until the list and TV
programming for it ceased to exist. Lamar Jackson being in
this class of ranking, I mean, he's won two MVPs,
but he's welcome to get number two. I guess as

(27:01):
long as Mahomes is in the league. Tyreek Hill being
ranked over Mahomes is especially funny considering the Chiefs have
won three Super Bowls excuse me, two Super Bowls since
trading Hill prior to the start of the twenty twenty
two season. Hill is a scary player, I mean, don't
get me wrong, one of the scariest for any defense
to guards. That makes sense he's ranked it that level.

(27:22):
But the idea that a guy who's not able to
carry a team to Super Bowl meanwhile a team that
punted on Hill and won two Super Bowls seems to
indicate where his value lies. We are four years from
hopefully the United States dominating in another Olympic sport.

Speaker 1 (27:43):
The Olympics set to wrap up soon.

Speaker 2 (27:45):
I thought I'd take this opportunity to remind everybody the
Olympic Flag football's four years away. It'll be debuting in
Los Angeles in twenty twenty eight, and there's a chance
that a bunch of high profile players will try to
compete and win the first flag football gold medal for.

Speaker 1 (27:59):
The United States.

Speaker 2 (28:01):
Still four years away, but it's not hard to imagine
what Olympic flag football team might look like for the
United States if you could get some guys like Mahomes
or Tyreek Hill or Jamar Chase Witherspoon, Pickens by, Jean Robinson,
guys like that to come on out.

Speaker 1 (28:16):
Now.

Speaker 2 (28:16):
Somebody posited something the other day that I thought was funny,
and that was at that point in time, getting Lebron
James to come back and play football. Lebron you know,
in high school briefly and there were people talking about
him being a tight end in the NFL or whatever.
Would you you know, getting Lebron James to come play

(28:36):
flag football, you know, I wonder if Tom Brady would
come out of retirement.

Speaker 1 (28:41):
For that kind of stuff.

Speaker 2 (28:42):
Like those kinds of things make you make you wonder
if you could get some of the legends of not
only this game, but other games to participate and try
to show a uniquely American sport, American dominance in that.
Just a thought on on that was, you know, ultimately
how they goes with Brandon Ayuk saga continues to unfold.

(29:05):
The Niners have re engaged in contract talks with him,
and I would say it's pivoting and tilting that way
at this point that he winds up staying. As the
Ayuk saga continues to unfold, the Niners desired return in
a trade that would ship out the twenty six year
old of the Steelers has become clear. San Francisco is
reportedly seeking a wide receiver in return in any trade.

(29:30):
The Niners haven't been satisfied with the Steelers' offers thus far,
and the Steelers would probably have to get a third
team involved, as they're not going to trade Pickens and
none of the other receivers that they have are very enticing.
There's no resolution currently in sight for the ongoing saga,
as Ayuk remains under contract. It remains to be seen

(29:50):
if there's a tantalizing enough trade package to get the
Niners to complete a trade for Ayuk, but as it
sits right now. With the latest and greatest on this,
appears that brendan Ayuk will probably get something worked out
with the forty nine ers to come back to San Francisco.
At this point, I don't know if you guys watched

(30:14):
the Patriots game last night. I talked a little bit
about that earlier with the quarterback situation there. But Joe
Milton was out there kind of kind of showing a
little something and he's you know, he's a guy, he's
got all the tools in the world, but kind of struggled,
I guess when he was in college to be consistent.

(30:35):
But he's got a canon arm and and you know,
legitimate athleticism. I thought he showed some pretty good poise,
kept his eyes downfield. He was back on a checkdown
after slide away from pressure, looked off the defense, gave
shoulder fake, stood tall in a clean pocket, turned to
the opposite side of the field for the touchdown. You know,

(30:56):
he showed a little bit of polished showed worthy of
potentially considering get him with some more reps and looking
to see if he can get a fifty three man
spot and further development. I there was a couple of
couple other players in that game. I looked at Kendrick
Bourne is obviously going to be a part of that team,

(31:18):
but he's on the pup list, so we'll see. It's
kind of hard to figure out what to do with
with Taekwon Thornton. He's got a soft tissue injury. It's limited.
He played on Thursday. But you know, dependability matters, So
you know, I don't know. Jalen Rager has some return skills.
He probably makes that Patriots roster. I you know, I
I that Patriots team this year looks like it's going

(31:41):
to be in for some tough sletting. I just watching Carolina.
I mean, they didn't even play their starters, but it's
just that Patriots roster. They were trying and it looks
like they're still struggling as far as that goes. I
wonder how much of a leash to Rod Males kind
of got in relieving in relief of I should say

(32:02):
Bill Belichick.

Speaker 1 (32:04):
I guess we'll see.

Speaker 2 (32:05):
Growing number of NFL teams are deciding that joint practices
don't need to go be on a single day. And
this is something most veteran they've talked about for a
while the first week of joint practices include one player
getting card off the field, two teams getting fined two
hudred thousand dollars each for excessive fighting, and that sort
of lent credence to the notion that joint practice sessions
don't need to last longer than a day. One to

(32:28):
me is plenty, is what New York Jets coach Robert
Salaz said. And the argument against is that the second
day is often chippier, and usually if one team really
gets the better of the other in the first day,
then the other team kind of coordinates something to get
back at them the next day, and nobody wants that. So,
you know, the idea that joint practices need to go

(32:50):
on longer than to day, I think, you know, I
tend to be. I tend to be with that as well.
Any you know, any reduced the badness you have by
limiting it to one day. Packers coach Matt Lafleur noted
earlier in the offseason, sometimes it becomes a wrestling match
out there, a fight when they get to a second day.
The Packers, of course coming to town next week for

(33:11):
joint practices, so that'll be that'd be the way that goes.
Packer's running back Josh Jacob said, every time I've ever
had a joint practice, the first day I'd be a
little rough, and then the second ones ends in a fight.
So I think there's I think there's something to that.
NFL teams are permitted to hold joint practices for as
many as four days during training camp. Those can be
divided anyway possible. A Rams are holding four separate one

(33:33):
day sessions against three different teams. The Rams said their
first joint workout with the Chargers on Sunday. They'll meet
again August fourteenth. The Rams also practice with Dallas Cowboys Thursday,
and they have a session with the Texans August twenty second.
Everybody seems to think that it's a good idea to
limit fights by by having that as a one day

(33:54):
type deal. Would I got quotes from Carl Lawson and
Matt Stafford and all that, you guys don't need to
hear all that. Sally shortened the Jets two day two
schedule two day joint practices last year to a single day.
The Jets practice against the Commanders on Thursday. They have
one day sessions against Carolina Panthers on the fifteenth and
the Giants on August twenty first. Very rarely do you
have a football player go through that much volume and
intensity on back to back days, So not only subjecting

(34:17):
guys to injury, but there's little production because they're seeing
red and they're fighting after and they're avoiding their techniques.
So coaches smartening up on how to get this thing
done with the joint practices, and of course we're looking
forward to joint practices with the Green Bay Packers coming
out next week. We got the game on Sunday with
the Indianapolis Colts right here on KOA, so you guys
can listen to that as well. Covered starts at eight am,

(34:37):
myself Brandon Christal kicking things off.

Speaker 1 (34:40):
That'll be a lot of fun.

Speaker 2 (34:40):
This is Nebroncos Country to Night right here on KOA
