Speaker 1 (00:00):
It is Broncos Country tonight.

Speaker 2 (00:03):
I am Brandon Christall and you got me last night
with my man Nick Ferguson as I was filling in
for Benjamin Albright and we were following KOI Sports as
this show always does. But at Sam's Number three in Glendale,
it was a fun time watch. Well, it was kind
of a boring Thursday at football game, but nonetheless he
saw the Jets win and the Pats lose, and that's
how most people picked it, although I think I bite

(00:24):
have stupidly picked the Patriots to cover in one of
my picking pools where you have to pick all sixteen
games against the spread and so not loving not loving that.
But you saw Aaron Rodgers kind of return to for
him and we can't look too far ahead because that
is the Broncos next opponent.

Speaker 1 (00:42):
They now get ten days off.

Speaker 2 (00:43):
But Aaron Rodgers had a throw and Nick and I
were both sitting there and kind of our eyes got bigger.
He had a throw that wasn't hauled in in the
first half. I think in the first quarter, we rolls
right and basically flip the ball like fifty five yards
on the line, hits the receiver in the back, of
the en zone in the hands, and he just he
couldn't haul it in. But worry about next week next week.
Right now, we gotta worry about this week. And the

(01:03):
Broncos are probably pretty close to if they haven't touchdown yet,
touching down shortly in Tampa, they're gonna spend eight days,
eight nights through the math real quick. So Friday, Saturday, Sunday, Monday, Tuesday, Wednesday, Thursday,
Friday Saturday, eight nights away from home. They're gonna be
in Tampa. I believe until Monday. They'll go through some
of their recovery stuff, and I think film work and

(01:25):
all the stuff you do normally on a Monday in Tampa.

Speaker 1 (01:28):
Then, I believe, and I haven't seen.

Speaker 2 (01:29):
The itinerant, but I'm just surmising based on how they've
how to handle the stuff in Buffalo and how teams
will often do this when they're extending their trip. Then
Monday they'll head up to the Greenbrier in White Sulfur Springs,
West Virginia. They'll be there through Friday and practice Wednesday
Thursday Friday like they normally do, and then head over
to NYC or Jersey or wherever they end up staying

(01:53):
on Friday night and then Sunday they take on the Jets.

Speaker 1 (01:57):
But right now, you got to focus on the Bucks.

Speaker 2 (01:59):
And when you're playing in Florida, whether it be South
Florida where.

Speaker 1 (02:03):
It's hot and muggy and gross this time of.

Speaker 2 (02:04):
Year, or you're on the you know, East Coast a
little further north of Miami and you're in Jacksonville, or
you're certainly on the Gulf Coast in Tampa, you got
to worry about gross weather, humidity, rain, and all of
that is in the forecast. I'm gonna get the most
up to date forecast, but I'm not looking forward to

(02:25):
being there in fact, and I got my min Michael
Koger here rolling with me for the first time. I
think since I've attended an NFL game as a media member,
I might wear shorts normally normally on a game that
I'm in a suit, but I think I might be
in shorts in a polo and I think I'll be
just fine with that. But the weather, plenty of kids

(02:47):
from the South and that played college ball in the
Southeast that'll be on both sides of the ball.

Speaker 1 (02:51):
Obviously, the Bucks.

Speaker 2 (02:52):
Live there, you know, year round or close to it
and obviously train there and play there, so they're used
to this this weather. But the Broncos have a quarterback. Yeah,
he spent last years in Oregon, but he spent the
first twenty years of his life or twenty two years
of his life in Alabama in Birmingham and then in
Auburn and bow Nicks. He he's he's embracing this weather

(03:14):
change in these elements in Tampa.

Speaker 1 (03:17):
I love it.

Speaker 3 (03:18):
I think, you know, that's one thing I am actually
looking forward to getting back to. I think it's kind
of strange because it's gonna be hot and humid. It's
going to be uncomfortable for most but I think, you know,
especially quarterback, when you get in the game, you start
you know, kind of you know, filling the the effects
of the humidity and the temperature. I think that's when,
you know, it's kind of like you know, high school

(03:39):
football all over again, you know, And so I'm excited
for that. I think it's gonna, you know, play not
necessarily a huge role in the game, but I'm excited
to get back to it.

Speaker 1 (03:51):
So again, the game's gonna kick it one Eastern.

Speaker 2 (03:54):
As I'm looking at the most up to date forecast
that is mostly sunny skies. High of ninety one win
five to ten miles an hour, humidity seventy percent. Now,
as the day progresses and you get into night, the
temperature drops, but humidity up to eighty four percent. It's
gonna be eighty seven percent humidity on Saturday, so it's

(04:14):
gonna feel even more kind of punch in the mouth
more more. I'm sorry, that's that's tonight. So I haven't
looked at Saturdays when when we get there. But let's see,
they're they're humidity just for fun. Oh again, seventy eight
eighty year, So the worst humidity percentage, Why is it
gonna be night? But glad that bo Nix is enjoying that.
You know, I talked with Justin, Sirnad. You'll hear that
on countdown to kick off with the game kicking eleven,

(04:36):
you'll hear that just after ten o'clock. He's from Tampa,
so he's used to weather like this, and he's gonna
have lots of friends and family there, and then a bunch.

Speaker 1 (04:43):
Of Florida kids. There were more Florida kids last year.

Speaker 2 (04:45):
And you trade away guys like Jerry Judy and a
couple others and tomorrow Mathis who's from there but not
playing yet because obviously the ankle injury. So there's some
guys that are from Tampa, but you have a bunch
of Florida guys. Justin Simmons obviously a Florida guy as well,
So there will be plenty of Broncos friends and family
members there. They don't have to travel too far and
hopefully just keep the windows closed in the press box.

(05:06):
I know they'll be open in the radio booth with
Dave and Rick. They're suffering through that humidity because I
always have the windows open as long as they're allowed to.

Speaker 1 (05:15):
But whether we'll play a factor, you know it's gonna play.

Speaker 2 (05:17):
Bigger factor though, is injuries, and the Broncos, despite having
what appeared to be kind of a bit of a
mass unit, you know, are very crowded injury report, if
you will, a busy injury report. They came out of
it in much better shape by the end of the week.
We know Baron Browning's not gonna go. He's the only
with the foot not headed. I are yet jail skinner also,

(05:38):
as he's got an ankle, he will not play, but
everybody else.

Speaker 1 (05:42):
John Franklin Myers who has a concussion. He's expected to go.
He's a full participant.

Speaker 2 (05:48):
And Zach Allen, who's a little dinged up, Greg Dulcet's,
Josh Reynolds, Adam Droman, even Devon Vele who revealed that
he had broken ribs that he suffered at the end
of the game in Ingrey or in Sorry Green Bay
in Seattle, Devon Vailey. Now on the other side, the
Bucks are not in good shape injury wise, and they're there.

(06:13):
Injury report is very long and has been all week,
and it does not look as good. So I'm gonna
play this from last night. We had Jake arians On,
he works in Tampa. His dad, Bruce arians we all
know as a longtime NFL head coach, got the Bucks
at Super Bowl win just a couple of years ago.

Speaker 1 (06:29):
I want to say that was Super Bowl fifty five
when Tom Brady and company took.

Speaker 2 (06:34):
Care of the Chiefs, which I know plenty of folks
around here though you don't like Tom Brady, you hate
the Chiefs more.

Speaker 1 (06:39):
They were excited to see that, I think.

Speaker 2 (06:41):
But Bruce arians On Jake talk to us, and so
I started with because there's a bunch of guys banged up,
but I started with the guy that I think because
the bron has had so much trouble running the ball,
this will certainly change things. I said, how does the
game plan change if vide Vea can't go and he
is downgrade or he is listed as doubtful.

Speaker 1 (06:57):
So with no v Devea, here's what.

Speaker 2 (06:59):
Jake arians told Nick Ferguson and I last night about
the big man in the middle being absent in how
that changes what the Bucks do?

Speaker 4 (07:08):
So for me, one of the stat lines that kind
of stuck out for me going back to the game
last week against Detroit was the number of sacks given
up by the Tampa Bay offensive line, And it seems
to me that that may be an opportunity where the
Broncos can exploit them. Have you seen other avenues where
the Broncos could possibly exploit the offense for the Tampa

(07:31):
Bay Buccaneers.

Speaker 5 (07:34):
Yeah, I think that's one of the biggest things. That
Luke Getticky played so good at right tackle last year.
He was out last week and they just had a
field day coming off The head touches him just everywhere,
and it was really just over that right tackle position.
I think if they have Geikey's out, it's definitely something
they've got to address. Whether you're gonna add next to
tight end over there Chip try to stop that pass
rush and giving him some help. If Getticky's back, now,

(07:56):
I think you have one of the top five best
offensive lines in the league, and I'm not sure you
exploit it the same way. But if he's out, it's
something they definitely have to look at. These Hutchinson just
ran wild last week, I think, or to be I
think he had quarter a half himself. Something they have
to look at definitely, and at that Broncos defense is
what's going to carry them. They've been really good. Patcher Tan,
one of my favorite players in the league, is an
absolute monster. I think that's something they have to try

(08:19):
to do it. Maybe you bring some exotic stuff off
of that side and tie that tackle up and you'll
bring somebody off the swade, those kind of things. It'd
be interesting to see what they do, but I think
that's one thing that they have to try to exploit
it getting you out.

Speaker 2 (08:30):
So I have no problem admitting I was a rough
edit by me and clipped the part where he talked
about Vidavea. That was before Nick asked the question about
what the Broncos could exploit Vi Deevea, as Jake told us,
you can go to Broncos Country tonight to the website
at KA Colorado dot com and check out the podcasting
where you get your podcasts from last night. He joined

(08:52):
us an hour or two and he talked about how
Vidivea as the run stuffing monster that he is and
has been his whole career, not having him does change
what they do, just like we saw when the Broncos
were really good upfront with Mike Purcell, and then when
Mike Purcell he started to drop off, and when he
wasn't necessarily as healthy later in his career, but when
when he was going and that run de was good

(09:12):
and then he'd miss a game, you could see that
drop up.

Speaker 1 (09:14):
Well, Vitevea, with.

Speaker 2 (09:15):
Apologies to Mike Purcell, is as good a run stuff
and big man as you've seen. And then they're also
going to be without Antoine Winfield Junior, who is maybe
the best safety in football, first team All Pro I think,
and I can double check this, I think he might
be the highest paid safety in football right now. And
he's been out now for two straight weeks as.

Speaker 1 (09:37):
He's been battling a foot issue.

Speaker 2 (09:40):
In his own right, and so no Antoine Winfield. They
still have Avonte David, but he's obviously getting up there
in years and maybe he still runs great. I don't
know if he runs as well as he once did.
But you've got Levonte David there. But when you take
the guy that's in the middle of the field at

(10:01):
the back end, that.

Speaker 1 (10:01):
Kind of sets your secondary.

Speaker 2 (10:03):
And we saw the way when Justin Simmons was on
the field versus when he was off the field last
year or the.

Speaker 1 (10:08):
Last couple of years, when a difference that's made.

Speaker 2 (10:10):
Well, just like Justin's been All Pro, Antonina Winfield was
the best safety in football a year ago. That's why
it was first team All Pro. And because of the foot,
he's gonna be out with Vea listed as doubtful and
with Luke Getticky out as you heard Jake arians just
talk about the Broncos even though they're gonna be without
Baron Browning because of his foot. Nick Benito another Florida kid,
he's from Fort Lauderdale, and Jonathan Cooper and Jonah Ellis will.

Speaker 1 (10:34):
I think have a chance to really get after it.

Speaker 2 (10:36):
DeAndre Tillman as well, who got activated or elevated the
fifty three, they're gonna have a chance to feast on
the backup with Getticky out, and so you take their
best player on the back side of their defense and
maybe their best overall defensive player again first team All Pro,
and you take out the guy in the middle. There
should be some vulnerabilities there. If the Broncos can get

(10:57):
going and stay committed to the run game.

Speaker 1 (10:59):
There should be the opportunity to really get after it
up the middle. And so.

Speaker 2 (11:06):
The Broncos, we know haven't run the ball at all, right,
bo Nix, as you're leading rusher last week with twenty
five yards, I think the week before is something similar,
and it's kind of a chicken and an egg thing.
You don't run the ball well on first down, so
then on second maybe you're looking to pass and all
of a sudden that doesn't go great. And you're at
third and eight anyway, and so you're not gonna run
around third night. You're not gonna run a dive. You
might run a draw on third and fifteen just to

(11:27):
get a little bit better fiel position before you punt,
and so we heard Sean Payton say this to Dave Logan,
and then he said it in his press conference Monday
and was asked or is press conference Sunday, then his
conference call with us on Monday, and then was asked
about it on Wednesday. About simplifying things, he said, maybe
we're doing too much. I'm paraphrasing him with some of
the great said, maybe we're doing too much, and that

(11:49):
means you know too much in terms of what's on
the place sheet props because he has very long play calls,
very verbose, something Nick Firston and I talked about last night,
and it takes a while for him to get that
play call into Bonnicks, and it takes a long time
for Boda regurgitate it and get it to get it
to his other ten players and then get up to
the line of scrimmage and then you're running out of time.

Speaker 1 (12:09):
You can't check out what they're doing on the other
side of the field, and you just have to go.
And so he said they just needed maybe do less.

Speaker 2 (12:15):
But I asked Joe Lombardi, the offensive coordinator, understand Sean
calls the plays, but I.

Speaker 1 (12:19):
Appreciate that that Joe's always pretty straightforward.

Speaker 2 (12:22):
And you know, we've had coordinators in the past, like
say at Dontel where we'd ask him a question because
he was on the podium every Thursday, and he'd say,
I don't know, ask Vic talking about Vic Fangio who
called the defense. Joe Lombardi will give you detailed answers,
or will be some nuance, or it'll be some thought
behind it. He's not gonna do anything that's gonna portray
Sean Payton's trust. And even last week when I asked, hey,
who's in Shawn's ear if you want to change things

(12:44):
up or if things aren't going well, because you not
only have Joe Lombardi has been with him forever, you
have Pete Carmichael now who's been with him forever. You
have Johnny mo Johnny Morton. There's their passing him in coordinator.
I believe it's his title. And he works with the
wide receivers as well.

Speaker 1 (12:58):
And all those guys have been with them, Zach Stre've
played with them forever and I was.

Speaker 2 (13:01):
Coach with them for a little bit. So you have
a bunch of guys. But Joe said, no, it's me,
And I'll say or it's kind.

Speaker 1 (13:05):
Of all of us. But Joe's like, I'll say, coach,
let's run it here. It doesn't mean you'll always listen.

Speaker 2 (13:09):
But so I asked Joe Lombardi yesterday, I said, what
how do you guard against trying to make wholesale changes?

Speaker 1 (13:16):
We know nothing's working.

Speaker 2 (13:17):
You have one touchdown in two games and it came
from your quarterback just using as athleticism. It wasn't in
the flow of the offense necessarily, it wasn't a designed run.
It wasn't a QB sneak on the one yard line
or three yard line or QB draw.

Speaker 1 (13:28):
So you're not finding the end zone.

Speaker 2 (13:29):
Yet we know that they had plenty of opportunities, especially
against Seattle. So I asked Joe Lombardi, how do you
guard against not you know, you know, how do you
guard against wanting to limit what you've been doing, if
you will, or scale things back, versus making wholesale changes
with stuff that for a long, long, long time has worked.

Speaker 1 (13:49):
And here's what he said, Ok.

Speaker 6 (13:51):
You know, in my mind, the you know you're only
going to get sixty to eighty plays a game, and
just paying attention to how many plays the call sheet
you can actually call. So I think certainly we want
to pay attention to, you know, what we're given the
players within each individual play. But I think as much
as anything, it's just the volume, you know, just make

(14:13):
sure we're not overwhelming them with more plays than we
could possibly run. And so I think when we talk
about simplifying, it's just for me anyway. It's more, you know,
how many plays are we practicing versus all the other stuff?

Speaker 2 (14:28):
So not knowing what practice looks like because we're not
allowed to watch anymore, did they scale things back? It
sounds like it talking to guys in the locker room
and around the team, that they are dialing back. And
what's interesting I brought this up last night with Nick
as well. Bo Nicks can handle the volume of plays
and the volume of variations into a game plan and

(14:53):
given in a given week. Bo Nix is a really
smart football player. The comparisons to Drew Brees, by all accounts,
are fair in terms of being able to process and
understand everything. And even when bon Nick has thrown interceptions,
he probably knows he's not supposed to in that instance,
or he understands that it's not you know, maybe he's
not seeing somebody, but it's not that he's locked onto
one guy. I get that they've all come in the
direction of Courtland Sutton. But when you got a guy

(15:15):
that has been to a Pro Bowl and has found
the end zone ten times a year ago and is
your biggest target in a lot of ways, I guess
you know there's some tight ends close to the same size.
And Veyle and Josh Reynolds are tall, they're not anywhere
You're as big as Courtland Sutton. You're gonna look for
him anyway. But it's not about the even the length
of the play call in the verbiage. Bonex can handle

(15:35):
all of that. That's why Sean Payton, I think wanted
to draft them as much as any other reason, is
because he's got that ability to process that supercomputer brain,
if you will.

Speaker 1 (15:46):
But you have to get a rookie quarterback comfortable.

Speaker 2 (15:50):
And so I was on Channel two and Fox thirty
one this morning like I am every Friday and every Monday,
and both on Channel two and on Fox, they asked me,
is it just for Bo's a rookie QB or what's
going on? And it's kind of a little bit of both.
Rookie Qubs just have a problem, and so I pointed
out that I say, have a problem, have a slow time.

(16:11):
You know there's a learning curve, right, Caleb Williams no
touchdowns on the ground or in the air. They got
a flukey win in week one those thanks to defense
and special teams. Two scores on that in that regard,
and stole a win from the Titans who kind of
had him beat there at Soldier Field. Jayden Daniels steals
a win in week two or May just because the
Giants are so crappy, but he's only scored on the ground.

(16:33):
So you have no touchdown passes from any of your
three first rounders that are playing. We know JJ McCarthy's heard,
and Michael Pennix is probably sitting forever, and Drake May
is trying to find Aaron Rodgers to shake his hand
post came but not playing in the game. The way
it went last night, you might as well play. Drake
May couldn't have been much worse, I guess because Cord
zero points. But it's tough being a rookie quarterback. That
being said, bo Nix's issues aren't related to the length

(16:57):
of the play and the play call, but you do
have to take into account if they're getting out of
the huddle late means you can't have any pre snap motion.
And last year the Broncos were twenty fourth in pre
snap motion anyway. And then when you get up there,
does Bonis even have time to look what the defense
is doing? Are they in cover it too? Is there
going to be a blitz coming? Are they trying to
disguise something if we send someone in motion, did we

(17:18):
think they're in man but they're actually in zone? Or
is it half the fields in one and half the
fields on the other. Well, he's so focused on getting
out of the huddle and just getting up to the
line of scrimmage and making sure everything's right there because
they're lacking enough time because of when they break the
huddle and by the time that play call.

Speaker 1 (17:33):
Gets in that maybe by scaling that back.

Speaker 2 (17:35):
And just focusing on what has worked or that you
feel like are your best plays. I realize not everything
has worked, but what are your best plays that that'll kind.

Speaker 1 (17:45):
Of, I guess, simplify things. We have plenty more to
go here before we have things off to the Rockies.

Speaker 2 (17:52):
At MVP show, Hey Atani show Atani's about to Tye
Frank Robinson.

Speaker 1 (17:56):
By the way, we've.

Speaker 2 (17:57):
Only had one player ever when the MVP and both leagues,
and he did it five years apart in sixty one
and sixty six. Showyotani, who is one of one across
the board, is going to win the MVP in the
NL after winning it in the AL a year ago.

Speaker 1 (18:09):
His second he also wanted a couple of years ago
in twenty twenty one. Doing this s out pitching, but
fifty and fifty.

Speaker 2 (18:13):
So the Rockies Final ROAs ripis tonight and pregame will
come your way at seven thirty. Right here with Rockies
on deck, it's an eight ten.

Speaker 1 (18:21):
First pitch from Chavez Ravine.

Speaker 2 (18:23):
But I want to tell you how the Broncos are
going to slow down the Bucks offense or what their
goal is going to be to slow the Bucks offense down.
You can jump into as well our text line the
Common Spirit Health text line five six six nine O
or give us a call three ZHO three seven to
one three eight five eight five. We're going to talk
to Parker Gabriel from the Denver Post coming up just
after seven o'clock, but in for Benjamin Albright, who's little
under the weather, although he's already taken the day off anyway,

(18:44):
and so I just hope he feels better. My name
is Brandon Chris Stall and you're listening to KOA eight
fifty am and ninety four to one.

Speaker 7 (18:50):
FM Broncos Country Tonight.

Speaker 2 (19:19):
I guess I skipped the opening line welcome to it,
Broncos Country Tonight. Normally Benjamin Albright would be here a
lot of times with Nick Ferguson the other night, or
Palt Brie Maystis was filling in at Steve Outwater and Nick.
But it was cool to be with Nick out At
at SAMs number three yesterday.

Speaker 1 (19:39):
I'm Brandon Christall.

Speaker 2 (19:40):
You can follow me on Twitter or x or whatever
you want to call it at BK Denver Sports or
on Instagram as well. I want to remind you speaking
to Nick Ferguson though, that coming up Sunday at eleven when.

Speaker 1 (19:51):
The Broncos are kicking things off with the Bucks.

Speaker 2 (19:55):
From eleven to one, you can join Nick Ferguson at
Scooter Sports Bar and Gri in Aurora for the KOA
Orange and Blue Brunch presented by Friends at Don Julio
Enter for a trip for two to the Denver and
KC game November tenth. Then watch the games all day long,
including obviously the Broncos and Bucks. You got great food
and drink specials again eleven to one at Scooter Sports

(20:17):
Bar and Grill in Aurora. Come hang out Nick and
he will talk all things Broncos with you, talk football,
talk about how the Broncos are gonna get this first win.
You know, every every week when the Broncos play, we
get sent a weekly press release of facts and figures
and things about the team and all these different things.

(20:40):
And one of my favorite things to do is to
look at where the Broncos are doing really well and
when you're zero in two, there's not gonna be a lot,
and where their opponent is doing really well. But so
if you print it out sometimes obviously like anything we
put out in black and white, but when they send.

Speaker 1 (20:57):
It to you, it's in color.

Speaker 2 (20:58):
And so it's where the Broncos rank in the league
in terms of their you know, they're they're ranking against
the other thirty two teams, And if it's in the
top ten, it's in green. If it's in the bottom ten,
it's in red, and if it's in the middle, it's
in blue. In the I mean it's in the press
release with the Broncos setup. So the Broncos offense the

(21:19):
only thing that's in the top ten in the entire league,
and they're I guess, right on the fringe at they're eleventh,
but they're tenth, tied for tenth fumbles lost with one
doing quick math, nine teams have had no fumbles lost
because the Bucks have zero in they're tied for first.

Speaker 1 (21:38):
So that's it.

Speaker 2 (21:40):
Nothing else is in the green, and in fact, most
of their stuff is in the red. They're twenty ninth
and yards per game, twenty eighth in yards per play,
thirtieth in points per game, twenty seventh in rushing yards
net rushing yards, they're twenty first in net passing yards.
So you're kind of almost the middle of the pack
on the lower side, but they're thirty first and giveaways

(22:01):
with those four interceptions and one fumble lost, third down
percentage has been atrocious at twenty nine percent, and they
are thirty second in red zone. Now the other side
of it, there's a whole lot of green before you
start look at the Bucks, a whole lot of green.
For the Broncos defense, they are ninth and yards per
game ninth and yards per play, tenth in points per
game at nineteen and a half, fourth in passing yards

(22:21):
against twenty third in rushing.

Speaker 1 (22:24):
Not great, but fourth.

Speaker 2 (22:27):
If you're giving up more rushing yards and passing yards,
I means your pass defense is doing something.

Speaker 5 (22:30):
Now.

Speaker 2 (22:30):
One hundred and forty three yards in on the grounds
not great, but one hundred and thirty four yards in
the air is really damn good.

Speaker 1 (22:36):
They are tied for.

Speaker 2 (22:37):
Exactly middle of the pack at sixteen sixteenth with one.
I guess there's seven teams that have two because the
Bucks are one of those, they're first and they're tie. Yeah,
they're tied for eighth with one fumble recovery and then
middle of the pack with sacks and takeaways. They're still
really good on third down although it's middle of the pack,
and in the red zone they are eighth in pretty

(22:57):
good special teams. The Bucks, however, on offense, are nineteenth
yards per game, thirteenth yards per play, but fourth in points.

Speaker 1 (23:05):
Per game at twenty eight and a half. And they
went to Detroit.

Speaker 2 (23:07):
If you go back and watch that game, though, you
see that Detroit was atrocious in the red zone in
their own right, which means that the Bucks red zone defense.

Speaker 1 (23:13):
Is pretty good. But Jared Goff looked off.

Speaker 2 (23:16):
He had a terrible throw on their next last possession.
But Baker Mayfield has been great, hadn't had hardly any interceptions.
They've got this one giveaway total. I guess Baker's been
picked off once. They've only allowed six sacks despite having
a backup right tack with Luke Geticky out last week
with a concussion, and Aid Hutchinson picked up five, three

(23:36):
of them in the first quarter. But in the red
zone they are finding ways to punch it in. They
are ninth in the league there, and on third down
they are converting at one of the highest clips in
the league. If you can be fifty percent, you're gonna
be in great shape. They're just behind that. They are
fifth best in league right now at forty seven point eight,
and we know that it starts with their pass catchers.
Mike Evans is going to be in the Hall of Fame.
Not that anybody's questioning it, but Mike Evans is one

(23:59):
of only a hand full of players in his first
ten years to go over one thousand yards every single year.
And the most interesting thing about that is he's never
had over one hundred catches. In fact, he's only had
over eighty catches twice. In twenty eighteen he had eighty
six and twenty sixteen he had ninety six. So he's
doing this with less than eighty catches, still going over
one thousand yards, so his yards per catcher is really high,

(24:21):
and touchdowns he.

Speaker 1 (24:22):
Finds the end zone. He's at ninety six in counting.

Speaker 2 (24:25):
I think he and Devanta Adams are really close there,
and they're just knocking on the top ten, so they're
both going to finish inside the top ten when they're
done playing.

Speaker 1 (24:31):
Then you also have Chris Godwin, who was a pro
bowler a couple of years ago.

Speaker 2 (24:34):
But they're both really darned good. And so I asked
Vance Joseph, because Mike Evans doesn't come to mind. When
you start talking about best receivers in the league. You
start with Justin Jefferson. You're probably throwing in Jamar Chase
some you're talking about Tyreek Hill. I'm probably gonna get
to DeVante Adams apparently quicker than his little teas of
what BJ is. But you're just not bringing up Mike Evans.
You're talking about maybe I'm on Ross Saint Brown and
Ceed Lamb, who's now obviously one of the hight paid

(24:56):
receivers in football.

Speaker 1 (24:57):
But you don't get to Mike Evans as quickly as
he probably should. And so I asked VJ yesterday.

Speaker 2 (25:03):
What his opinion is of a guy that's going to
be wearing a gold jacket.

Speaker 8 (25:07):
Well, he's warning the best. I mean, you look at
Mike Evans and the guy in Vegas. Those two guys
are special players, you know, and they kind of go
under the radar a little bit because they've played so
long at a high level you kind of assume and expected.
But Mike Evans wearing the best. I mean, he's had
the yards, the receptions and the consistency over the years

(25:29):
that you look for for Hall of Fame players. And
so he's that along with Godwin and you know McMillan.
They've got three targets. So we're back to week one again,
you know where they have three, you know, three pass
catchers and experienced quarterback who's playing well, good runner, you know,
good old line. So it's going to be a challenge,
but that's the league now. You know, everyone's got pass catchers,

(25:50):
everyone's got quarterbacks who are playing on the high level
and it's a passing game for the most part. So
that's the challenge every weekend in this league.

Speaker 2 (25:57):
In Week one, we saw PS two certain junior still
for my money in the best corner football Unied. He's
had a rough couple of weeks we saw. We saw
PS two travel with DK Metcalf almost exclusively. Last week
he didn't travel as much and even was in on
punt return, which is its own separate conversation. As Benketeka,
a special teams coordinator, told us they have different packages

(26:17):
and different players and that Pat wants to do that.
But you have to think that with Mike Evans, even
if he wasn't following George Pickens around as much, Pat's
gonna follow Mike Evans a lot. And so he talked
about it in his press conference Wednesday, and then when
he joined KOA Sports on Thursday, he was asked about
obviously having to slow down Mike Evans. But we know
how good Chris Godwin is as well.

Speaker 9 (26:36):
Honestly, man, I think they both got a unique skill set. Yeah,
like I said, Chrits, he's off to a great start in.

Speaker 10 (26:44):
An offensive game plan.

Speaker 9 (26:45):
I could have theyve been utilizing him more and more
in different situations.

Speaker 10 (26:50):
And you know, Mike, he's just done it consistently for
twenty of years. I mean we he had like ten
straight a thousand yard seasons. That's a rare thing to do,
especially the way how he keeps going, you know, each
and every year. So yeah, like I said, they both
create challenges for opposing defenses because they got a different

(27:12):
steel set, but the steel sits, you know, work and
complement each other within the offense. So we definitely got
a game plan for him, and you know, we just
try to limit those explosive players that they bring each
and every week.

Speaker 2 (27:27):
Yeah, and so as PS two talked about, and they've
got that challenge when you look at their production just
through the first couple of games, and.

Speaker 1 (27:35):
God had a really big second year.

Speaker 2 (27:36):
But Evans has one hundred and three yards and a
score and Godwin two hundred yards and a score in
Baker Mayfield looking like an MVP cannidate and looking like
a bargain right now, though, We're gonna look at your
drive home as we head to the Kawai Traffic Center
and check in with Jeffrey Dalay.

Speaker 1 (27:51):
Jeff, how's it looking out there.

Speaker 11 (27:57):
Second down in five for the twenty two pistol formation,
slotting your side ball left, hash Mark Bolts marching for
Mike to left, leading twenty one to three. Look at assault.
This game a win here on the fourth quarter snap,
the Shadure back pedals, sets, throws it down field into
the end.

Speaker 1 (28:13):
Zone, makes the grab high in the air. Did he
hold on touchdown? Touchdown Colorado? That ball was throwing beautifully.

Speaker 11 (28:22):
The second strike to the night from Chaduur to Travis
Hey touchdown pass up twenty two. How the Buffaloes have
broken the game open with thirteen twenty to play in
the fourth quarter as ondly twenty seven to three.

Speaker 2 (28:36):
That our pal Mark Johnson, voice of the Buffs on
six poin thirty KHL last week. That's where the game's
going to be again. So I know it's Broncos Country
to Night. I'm Brandon Christall filling in for Benjamin alright,
taking you up until seven thirty when we will hand
things off to Rockies on deck pregame there in La
to take on Shoho Tani and the Dodgers. Bowen to
sneak in a little college football talk. The Rocky Mountain

(28:57):
showdown turned out to not be much.

Speaker 1 (28:59):
Of a show at all.

Speaker 2 (29:00):
It was all CU, especially as they got things rolling
in the second half. But another big game from Shaudor
Sanders and then Travis Hunter. You always have to appreciate
when you get a press release from any any media
relations department, But the CU one does such a great job.
So Curtis and the folks up there at the University
of Colorado sent out a press release. He says, this

(29:21):
is believed to be the first ever stat line like
this in NCAA football history where a player plays one
hundred and twenty three of one hundred and thirty eight
snaps on both sides of the ball. He has thirteen catches,
one hundred yards, two touchdowns receiving, as well as a
big interception return on the defensive side.

Speaker 1 (29:38):
Of the ball for I want to say it was
thirty eight yards.

Speaker 2 (29:41):
You talk about one of one. Should or Sanders might
be the first quarterback that we see taken. I guess
we'll we'll find out obviously in April, and who else is.

Speaker 1 (29:48):
In that mix with him?

Speaker 2 (29:50):
But Travis Hunter wherever he goes in the top five,
and if he gets past five, that would be mind blowing.

Speaker 1 (29:56):
I guess unless it's all quarterbacks that go.

Speaker 2 (29:58):
But whoever gets Travis Hunter, they're going to get a
truly one of a kind Unicorn, if you will, unique player,
and it's just fun to watch him play. So the
Buffs host Baylor tomorrow again on six thirty K how
you can catch pre game from Boulder at four and
then Mark Johnson and Gary Barnett, I'll have your call
and presume Bobby Pasvento, I believe on the sideline.

Speaker 1 (30:20):
That is a six. Baylor last week.

Speaker 2 (30:23):
Welcomed air Force and we're not gracious hosts down in Waco.

Speaker 1 (30:26):
They beat air Force thirty one. Three air Forces off
this week.

Speaker 2 (30:29):
But then looking at the Mountain West, CSU now sitting
at one and two is going to look to bounce
back against an Oho in three UTEP squad and then
Wyoming they're oh in three, they're headed down to North Texas.
So it's all winnable games because North Texas is there,
one and two winnable games there for all three teams,

(30:50):
and in fact, see you at last check was still
a point and a half, two point favorite.

Speaker 1 (30:55):
I believe over Baylor. I needed to see where things
are right now. But that's uh. That was what I
saw earlier in the week.

Speaker 2 (31:02):
And I understand people's reluctant saying, oh, they only beat
CSU if you're gonna oring pick on CSG was saying, Oh,
they went to Nebraska and got their teeth kicked in
and they just didn't really show up to play. And
they beat a really good but nonetheless an FCS school
or Division two if you will, if you want to
go old school in week one in North Dakota State,

(31:22):
and they had to hang on to win that game.
But I think that maybe things are clicking a little bit,
and so I'm not gonna go crazy, but they're still
a one and a half point favorite.

Speaker 1 (31:33):
You can watch a game on Fox.

Speaker 2 (31:34):
I believe they're one of the few schools that is
gonna be on all four major networks, if you will,
in the first four weeks, right, they've been on CBS
last week, they're gonna be on Fox. They were on
ABC week one on Thursday Night, right, and they were
on NBC in Week two in Nebraska. So they're checking

(31:54):
those boxes.

Speaker 1 (31:55):
But I like them to win. I'm gonna pick them
to win. I mean, Baylor's got a solid squad. I
had some car trouble day.

Speaker 2 (32:00):
I actually had to miss Broncos practice. My car broke
down on I twenty five. I was able to get
the safety and then after getting the car to the shop,
took Uber home and somebody was driving a Baylor truck
with a Baylor trailer, but they were out hiking basically
some of them making their way up to Boulder. But
the Uber driver and I started talking about the game
tomorrow and he goes, I think Baylor's got something for him,

(32:22):
I think, And I was like, well, they beat Air
Force thirty one to three, but we'll see. I know
that that Dean Sanders thinks really highly Dave Brandon, and
so it'll.

Speaker 1 (32:32):
Be fun to see how it plays out.

Speaker 2 (32:35):
And if you're making up to Boulder tomorrow, then be safe,
but have fun with them.

Speaker 1 (32:39):
I'm picking the buffs. We're gonna get back though to
Broncos talk.

Speaker 2 (32:42):
Here on the other side, we're gonna check in with
Parker Gabriel of the Denver Post. He is their lead
Broncos reporter, and he's gonna break everything down for us
that I missed today at practice and post practice media availability,
and then preview the trip to Tampa as well. As
the extended trip through the Eastern time zone. They go
to West Virginia and then to New York next week,

(33:05):
so we will step aside again and then before we
get to Dodgers and your Rockies, we will preview this
game with more Broncos country tonight on the other side,
and for Benjamin Albright, I'm Brandon Christall and you're listening
to KOA eight fifty ninety four one FM.
