Speaker 1 (00:00):
From CBS.

Speaker 2 (00:01):
How you doing. Oh and you know what's been pretty good, guys,
pretty good. We got like wins talk about lately. So
it's been pleasant.

Speaker 3 (00:08):
Yeah, it really has. Is a surprise. I think weekend
for Denver football. I think a lot of people thought,
see you a fourteen point dog. The UCF was gont
a struggle. I was one of them. And then you
look at it. The Broncos taken on the Jets, another
one where they weren't favored, but they managed to got
out a win. And as we look at this, you know,
right now things are shaping up real nice for SeeU
over there at the Big twelve. And the Broncos certainly

(00:28):
have a slate of games ahead over the next couple
of weeks that look eminently wittable.

Speaker 2 (00:33):
Yeah, I mean, I don't know which one to start with,
but like if we start in the NFL, and we
usually split in the.

Speaker 1 (00:39):
Game, the season up by quarters, if you will, this
second quarter, you got home games with the Raiders, Chargers, Panthers,
and then you're going to New Orleans, and New Orleans
obviously started out hot, but so they've tapered a little bit.

Speaker 2 (00:51):
You're looking at it and saying Wow. I mean, this
is a great stretch, and I think the stretch after
this stretch is that.

Speaker 1 (00:56):
When they have Kansas City Baltimore, there's like a tough
couple games in a row, so just kind of is
a crucial stretch.

Speaker 2 (01:02):
But certainly a lot.

Speaker 1 (01:04):
Of winnable games for the Broncos all of a sudden,
which is really exciting.

Speaker 2 (01:08):
And then you look at the bus.

Speaker 1 (01:09):
They're actually favored the rest of the year outside of
Kansas State, and you look at most of those games
and I think there's a majority of those are there's
a winnable paths to most of them as well.

Speaker 2 (01:21):
But of course now it's kind of that time of
year we start to learn about teams, right who's the
September pretender? So we're going to find out. But both
these teams have a chance to get the dubs.

Speaker 4 (01:32):
Well well, I mean, I want to think on the
bus for just a second.

Speaker 5 (01:34):
How shot were you to see pass rummers offense actually
run the ball and run it as effectively as they did?

Speaker 2 (01:43):
Okay, well, I you know what, I got to give
credit work.

Speaker 1 (01:46):
Credits due I have been pleased with pass rooms play calling.
We've all dogged on Pat but he has obviously him
and Shador have a great connection.

Speaker 2 (01:55):
I really have thought he's done a really good job
with the calling, especially the last couple of weeks. The
commitment to the run. I mean, this is a team that.

Speaker 1 (02:05):
Running the ball for two three hundred yards the game
is just simply not in their offensive identity.

Speaker 2 (02:09):
That's not who they are, and that's okay, but they
have committed to running the ball what they need to
so that it can open things up for Shador. I've
really liked what he's done. I've liked some of the
calls he's called for Shador as well.

Speaker 1 (02:22):
They clearly are very much so on the same page.
And I think the offensive is running efficiently. The offensive
line is coming up. You know, it's probably the weakest
point on the team, but I liked what I saw
from UCFUCS doesn't have a particularly strong defensive front, but
it is a unit that continues to get better. And

(02:42):
I think that is my biggest takeaway from CEEU so far,
is that this team has gotten better every single.

Speaker 2 (02:47):
Game and you can't really ask for much more. And
we look at that UCF game, that was one of
the most complete games of CEU football I have watched.

Speaker 6 (02:56):
In a very long time.

Speaker 1 (02:58):
I never thought we'd be sitting here saying Deion Sanders
out touch ghost Gus Maldon.

Speaker 2 (03:02):
But he out touched, coached, out coached Gus Maldon. He
did it. I mean, that was a well coached game.
Block management, all the things that were questions, they really
stepped up in this UCF one.

Speaker 3 (03:13):
They did. They're gonna need to continue to get better.
Got a tough ask with Kansas State coming up here
to Boulder in the next game. That figures to be
a tougher defense to score on. I mean, I'm trying
not to say negative things about Pat Sherimer right now
because they're winning and the offense is playing well. But
it's interesting, great in my DNA, are they going to

(03:33):
be able to run the ball effectively against k State?
Because it feels like if we continue down this shador
My late season, having taken so many hits, puts himself
at risk.

Speaker 1 (03:44):
Yeah, I mean, it's going to be a challenge, but
it's simply they just simply have to and they're going
to commit to the run.

Speaker 6 (03:49):
Dallan Hayden being back is big.

Speaker 2 (03:52):
You know, he comes out there.

Speaker 1 (03:53):
I think that he the more they can play him
and Michael Welch, then you have a really nice pandem
and that seems like a duo that everybody feels really
confident behind. It seems like they I don't know if
they couldn't find or didn't have feel like they had
the big guys. When I had Prime on my show
with It last week with Michael Welch, talked about one
thing year like my goods more than he's just a back.

Speaker 6 (04:13):
He's really good, you know, reading.

Speaker 1 (04:15):
The protections at pass pro as well, So I think
that's really interesting for a freshman. But he said, you know,
he's been there since spring, and I think Dallan Hayden
is powerful and he can make an impact, and I
think they go through with the two of them.

Speaker 2 (04:29):
There's something really to be said there. But it is
to what you said. They have to run the ball
simply because Shador, well he's got a lot more than
just this season, right.

Speaker 1 (04:37):
You can't get hurt just getting taken down all the time.

Speaker 2 (04:41):
So there's really no option. You have to run the ball.
But the truth is, when I look at the CU team.

Speaker 6 (04:45):
What I most impressed with guys as the defense.

Speaker 2 (04:47):
They've been unbelievable. I was not expecting this.

Speaker 1 (04:51):
They haven't given up more than seven points in the
second half, and I think that's something to be.

Speaker 2 (04:54):
Said for how they continue to get better. Robert Livingston
has been fantastic with the players he had.

Speaker 1 (05:00):
They play a lot of man I feel like there's
a lot of questions about that, but they've answered the
bell so far. Like you said, Case State's the next
big test. So now this is a game they're not
favored in.

Speaker 2 (05:09):
How do they answer after the week off, right after
this big high bed UCF. This is gonna be a
much tougher defensive Case State team. I think we're gonna
learn a lot about you.

Speaker 4 (05:20):
What the Broncos now being two and two, where most
individuals earlier in the season had them one in three
at this particular point, and knowing all the injuries that
the Raiders have, is this or could this be set
up as a trap game for the Broncos.

Speaker 1 (05:37):
I'm so glad you said that, Nick.

Speaker 2 (05:39):
Because here's the thing.

Speaker 1 (05:40):
Raiders are hot mess right now, but the Raiders are
only the hot mess and the Broncos have lost to
them eight times in a row. And I think you
bring up a really good point because there's been so
many times since their last win in twenty since the
Broncos last win over the Raiders in twenty nineteen, that
you've been like, oh, my gosh, the.

Speaker 6 (05:56):
Raiders are you know, a mess, or this is going.

Speaker 2 (06:00):
On or there's this drama or this coach got fired
or whatever it is, and yet they always.

Speaker 1 (06:04):
Seem to come and beat the Broncos. So it has
to be something that it's big headline drama with DeVante Adams,
you know, obviously what's going on with Antony.

Speaker 2 (06:12):
With Pierce now right, like all of this stuff is happening.

Speaker 1 (06:15):
It's a lot of drama, but the Broncos have to
stay focused and they have to.

Speaker 2 (06:20):
Find a way to win because it could totally be
a trap game.

Speaker 1 (06:24):
You look at it, No Davante you know, or oh,
you know, the Broncos defense has been fantastic.

Speaker 2 (06:30):
Gardner minshew.

Speaker 1 (06:30):
That feels like a good attack for them, but they
can't you simply can't overlook it because it feels like
there has been so many winnable ones over the last
eight ones that the Broncos also sort of won because
the Raiders were a mess.

Speaker 2 (06:42):
So I think they really got to stay focused. And
you bring up an excellent point.

Speaker 3 (06:46):
We were talking with Rick Lewis a little bit earlier.
You know, can the Broncos get this offense on track?
The defense has been stellar, but if you get if
you get a couple of wins here, but the offense
doesn't seem to be getting on track because the quarterback
isn't there. Do you think that Sean Payton could pivot
to a Jared Stadham down the stretch if his team's
winning in spite of the offense.

Speaker 2 (07:08):
I don't think so.

Speaker 1 (07:11):
I think that, you know, when you say that, somebody
said to me, I can remember it was shoun Payton
looked kind of like.

Speaker 2 (07:17):
Bummed after that Jets game.

Speaker 1 (07:19):
I don't think that was necessarily the fact. But I
think perhaps you could be between the tea leaves and
he wants to win offensively, right, He doesn't necessarily want
to be known as a defensive power out team, you know,
so to speak.

Speaker 2 (07:30):
So I think.

Speaker 1 (07:31):
That Sean Payton, you know, in some ways, stakes his
legacy on Bo next. You know, people have said that,
and I just don't think that unless Bo absolutely crumbles,
It's hard.

Speaker 6 (07:41):
For me to see him switching mid season, because I
think he's.

Speaker 1 (07:45):
You know, gonna want to prove that he can get
him right and that this is he chose this quarterback
for a reason.

Speaker 6 (07:52):
So for me, it feels hard.

Speaker 2 (07:54):
That sounds like a stretch for me to say, yeah.

Speaker 1 (07:56):
He would do that unless bo just absolutely carumbles right.

Speaker 5 (08:02):
Well, Romie, you know, Sunday is a big game for
a lot of reasons. A lot of Festivti's going on,
as far as Bronco's alumni weekend, Baron Travis and Steve
Foley going into the Ring of Fame, and Randy Gratischard
is going to be acknowledged finally. But the biggest thing
for a lot of players and fans is the uniforms,

(08:22):
the throwback uniforms. Do you think that it's more of
an incentive for the guys to go out to play
well and doesn't add a sense of pressure for them?

Speaker 1 (08:32):
Uh? You know, I think it was fun hearing all
the guys this week talk about how excited they were
about it. I had Nick Bonito on my show this
week and I asked him, like, is it like what
Dion said?

Speaker 5 (08:41):
Right?

Speaker 6 (08:41):
Look good, feel good, play good.

Speaker 1 (08:43):
He's like, absolutely, And they love the thread, so they
really like him.

Speaker 6 (08:47):
I think that they'll want to and I want to
win for that reason.

Speaker 2 (08:50):
But you know what's funny. I was filming a show
with Nate Jackson that we have that airs every week today,
and he brought up a good point. You know.

Speaker 1 (08:57):
It was it wasn't that many years ago when it
was the Mike Channon handgame, right, and he was getting
Clinton the ring of thame in the Broncos laws.

Speaker 2 (09:04):
So I do think that's motivation.

Speaker 1 (09:06):
But I think at the end of the day, it's
all what happens between the White Lions, and you got.

Speaker 2 (09:10):
To focus on that and not get caught up in
the hoop.

Speaker 1 (09:13):
I think there's going to be a lot of fanfare,
a lot of alumni fair like, a lot going on
this weekend, and you know, you're back at home for
the first time in.

Speaker 2 (09:21):
A while, so tickets and all that stuff, and I
think they really got to hone in and focus and
almost eliminate all those distractions because there's a lot this weekend.

Speaker 6 (09:31):
Yeah, there is a lot.

Speaker 3 (09:32):
And we're talking with CBS as Roby be and Roby
as we look at this thing. This it's starting to
kind of break nicely here for the Broncos. You've got
a bang up Raiders team, you'll well overlook it. But
you got a bang up Raiders team. It's got a
ton of drama. You got a banged up Chargers team
after that, and it sets up nicely before a prime
time return to New Orleans for Sean Payton. If his

(09:53):
team can get the quarterback go or if they can
get the offense going on this thing, you know, sky's
the limit. I don't think anybody was suggesting that the
Denver Broncos are going to be super Bowl contenders. I
don't think they're suggesting it now. But they've got a
super Bowl caliber defense, and you get the offense going
on this thing, and all of a sudden, you know
you might be a ten win football team.

Speaker 2 (10:10):
Yeah.

Speaker 1 (10:11):
I mean, you just got to get the offense going
a little bit weak by really, because that's how good
this defense is right now.

Speaker 6 (10:17):
I mean, Bonick.

Speaker 2 (10:18):
Couldn't be in a better position. You've got so much
breathing room right now because of how good this defense is.

Speaker 1 (10:24):
And so it's like you just need a little bit
more right from that offense every single week.

Speaker 6 (10:29):
So even if you can just start clicking with some
of the receivers and start clicking.

Speaker 2 (10:34):
Just you know, I think he'd make good decisions. I
think all these things. I think you look at that
Jets game. I know the weather was crazy, but he
was really uncomfortable. So I think he's still settling in right,
still a rookie.

Speaker 1 (10:44):
So if he gets a little bit more comfortable each
week and really starts clicking, I.

Speaker 6 (10:49):
Totally agree with you.

Speaker 1 (10:49):
I think there's a lot more winnable games on this schedule.
And I know it's an offensive league. I know it's
a quarterback league, but I.

Speaker 2 (10:57):
Won of those people shout out to meet Eunich. I
love good defense. I'm here. I'm a defensive girl. I'm
a defensive stand So this has been a fun season
for me so far.

Speaker 5 (11:06):
Well sign me up for defense, but also sign me
up for a good running game. And Ben and I
talked about it, you know, the other day when he
comes to the running back position, because looking at the
Tampa game, there was a farm by Javonte and it
seemed like after that maybe the coaching staff or maybe
Sean Payton fell out of love with him, but he
fell back in love with him in New York City.

(11:29):
So on Sunday, are we going to get more of
a cohesive offense? Featuring Javonte on Sunday.

Speaker 2 (11:37):
I hope so. I think a lot of it with
the Redding Game two is about rhythm.

Speaker 1 (11:41):
It's hard to put these guys in and then take
them out and then they never see him again.

Speaker 2 (11:45):
So hey, Javonte, you know, got himself going.

Speaker 6 (11:47):
It was great to see.

Speaker 1 (11:48):
I think he needed that kind of a game and
so to see that, I just hope they just keep
it going because I think it's you got to keep
him in the rhythm, keep.

Speaker 2 (11:55):
Them hot, keep them going.

Speaker 1 (11:57):
And it was one of their cliches, the run game
of the quarterback's best friend.

Speaker 2 (12:01):
You've got to keep doing that again.

Speaker 1 (12:03):
As though continues to develop, so he can have a
strong run game.

Speaker 6 (12:07):
That also gives him a little more breathing room to
feel more comfortable.

Speaker 2 (12:10):
So you got to do it. You got to run
the nag ball.

Speaker 3 (12:13):
How much have you been impressed by the season and
the debut for Riley Moss. You know, I thought he
had some huge shoes to step into there, being the
guy opposite patzer Tan and Jake Won McMillan. But I
think he's se quitted himself incredibly.

Speaker 5 (12:28):
Well.

Speaker 2 (12:29):
I've been more than impressed.

Speaker 1 (12:31):
I have he has absolutely excited my expectations because sees
for a guy that I mean, you look at they've
all those you know, graphics that came out this week
of how little really passed and thrown up? You know,
it's what less than eighty I don't know, it's crazy
or less than eighty, sorry, Lessen, I don't know how many.
I don't know, right, so few targets less than like

(12:54):
eighty yards he's given up and so the other side
is just so exposed.

Speaker 2 (12:57):
Normally that guy gets really really burned. I thought he
would be get burned at least a couple of times already.

Speaker 1 (13:02):
I've been really impressed at his game also just on
a shury level when you talk to him and you
know his attitude.

Speaker 2 (13:10):
And didn't didn't didn't he play at Iowa?

Speaker 1 (13:13):
Yeah? Yeah, so he's used to low scoring offenses.

Speaker 2 (13:16):
This is like this is Ryle the boss is good.
You're good here. He knows what he has to do.
But right, this is not unfamiliar. But I've been very impressed.

Speaker 1 (13:26):
There's so much pressure when you're playing across pat and
to step up, and.

Speaker 2 (13:30):
He's got a really cool head. When you talk to
him in the locker room too.

Speaker 1 (13:32):
You know, he kind of seems a little bit older
than he is, So shout out to him and shout
out to alex Oski him.

Speaker 2 (13:41):
Call him al Pal, al Pal.

Speaker 1 (13:43):
I mean another guy that I think everybody thought was
going to get run over. Hasn't placed a guy like
Mexicans yet, right, but he has been He's played physical,
he's played well.

Speaker 2 (13:53):
I've been really impressed with him as well.

Speaker 6 (13:56):
Yeah, myself as well.

Speaker 3 (13:57):
It's going to bring some interesting questions up once Glinchy
comes back. Romy We always appreciate you taking the time
to join us. We always appreciate you having you, having
you on here on Broncos Country tonight. Ah, you guys
been back all right, Take care, Roby being
