(00:20):
finished listening to the Big Al episode. Well, yeah, good,
that was a good one. David Smithson says he's on standby.

Speaker 2 (00:29):
We wanted to get into the Nuggets.

Speaker 1 (00:32):
They've got first game of the season or first preseason game,
I guess was earlier today. It was an early game
because they're over in what Abu Dabi right now. I
don't know if you've ever been. It's an interesting place.
Nuggets one one O seven to one oh three Celtics.
Excuse me, the Celtics one is what I say, Nuggets.

(00:53):
I met the Celtics coach Begano's gonna kill me. I
It was uh in a interesting game. We saw some
they're trying to handle these rotations, I guess a little
bit different.

Speaker 2 (01:07):
It just it felt like.

Speaker 1 (01:09):
They're kind of experimenting here a little bit to kind
of figure out what it is that they're gonna be doing.
We didn't see a whole lot of Jamal Murray. You know,
Boston sat four of its five starters after halftime. Luke
Cornett was the only exception there. Peyton Pritchard had a
game high twenty one points for Boston, who was at
twenty I think twenty sixty one from three point range,
just chucking them up. Yokich had fourteen for Danver Russell

(01:30):
Wells Westbrook at twelve and his first out including a
spot up three pointer there right there from Yokichurley on
Porter had twelve. Murray was in street, closed by the
bench at the end of the game. He had three
points in only fifteen minutes of play.

Speaker 2 (01:44):
What did you think? First of all, what did you
think of this game?

Speaker 1 (01:46):
And then I want to deep dive a little bit
of the Calvin Booth Mike Blown situation.

Speaker 3 (01:50):
Well, I thought this game was started out being exactly
what it is is the preseason, and it's an opportunity
for the veteran guys to kind of re build on
the chemistry from last year, work on a couple of things. Also,
more importantly, it's the first time Christian Brown was inserted
into the starting lineup, so you wonder to see how
that was going to definitely work out, But for me,

(02:13):
it was seeing what was going to happen with that
second unit. How was Westbrook going to fit into what
the Nuggets want to do. And for me, right off
the bat, it was your case down on the low
block doing what he normally does, finding the open shooter,
and he found Westbrook out he knocked down one of
his three pointers, and that was something I wanted to

(02:36):
see because I am still predicting, even though coach Mulung
may not do this right away, but I'm still predicting
at some point Westbrook is going to be in that
starting lineup.

Speaker 4 (02:47):
I just feel as though you have to and you
still can kick him down and he can.

Speaker 3 (02:52):
Run with the guys on the second unit, but it's
going to be about firepower. There's no Jeff Green, Bruce Brown. Know,
we keep talking about it, but it is, Yes, it's
it's a real thing. So when you look at the
West you need perimeter shooters and you need guys who
can give you those those buckets when they.

Speaker 4 (03:13):
Have open space.

Speaker 3 (03:14):
Now, the one thing I was really pleasantly surprised about
Michael Porter Junior was cutting to the rim.

Speaker 4 (03:23):
That could be a good.

Speaker 3 (03:24):
Sign for the Denmer Nuggets because Aaron Gordon was backing
down Jalen Brown and I think it with Jaylen Brown
Drew Holliday, and instead of Porter just staying out beyond
the art like he normally does, he cuts to the basket.

Speaker 1 (03:39):
I started calling him Michael Patristoyakovitch because the way you
just hung around the three point arc, that's just basically
his whole game.

Speaker 4 (03:45):
Yeah.

Speaker 3 (03:45):
Yes, but but if he cuts to the basket, dude,
this changes things for the.

Speaker 4 (03:51):
Nuggets in so many ways.

Speaker 3 (03:52):
He's now, he now, and this is Michael Porter Junior
becomes in my mind, a pure score.

Speaker 4 (03:59):
Because he's now he's looking.

Speaker 3 (04:00):
To score, he's looking to get involved with the scheme,
and he's got guys who's going to find him. So
those are a couple of things that really stood out
for me in today's game.

Speaker 1 (04:10):
Nuggets played nine guys on the bench really went deep,
including Letton, Spencer Jones, and p J. Hall gets some
minutes Strawther lit Old Nuggets in minutes twenty two minutes,
thirty seven seconds with eleven points on there. Vlet Coo
Kanchar got in there for a little while, played twenty
almost twenty one minutes. Russell Westbrook played in nineteen minutes
eighteen and a half minutes in this one.

Speaker 2 (04:31):
So you may be honest something.

Speaker 1 (04:33):
And it may be a situation where he starts the game,
then goes to the bench for an extended period and
then comes in. But because I think you're gonna want
a situation where if you're pulling Jamal and Jokic off
the court for a few minutes to get him a breather,
that he needs to be running things. Russell Westbrook needs
to be running things when those guys are off the
me You need his veteran leadership out there.

Speaker 3 (04:51):
Absolutely, And this is one way during the preseason to
stabilize that second group, but also show that when things
get tough, depending only your opponent from from game to game,
you can roll Westbrook in there because he's used to.

Speaker 4 (05:05):
Being that guy pushing the place.

Speaker 5 (05:06):
Now.

Speaker 3 (05:07):
Another thing is, like last season, the biggest issue was
I thought that Nikola Jokicic was just drain and that
you add in the fact that he played in the Olympics,
that that's.

Speaker 4 (05:17):
Even more so. DeAndre Jordan. For me, he's just good
for a lob. That's it. I mean, he's not gonna
give you anything else but that.

Speaker 3 (05:25):
But uhboun well, a couple of couple of rebounds, But.

Speaker 2 (05:30):
I mean, that's Rudy Gobert what you're getting.

Speaker 3 (05:35):
But they bring over a guy who's been in the
league about eight years, been with a couple of teams,
been with the Golden State Warriors and the Phoenix Suns.

Speaker 4 (05:42):
Darnia sark Uh.

Speaker 3 (05:44):
He's gonna be one of those guys who I feel
is going to be that backup center for the Nuggets.
So this is kind of a working progress for the
Denver Nuggets.

Speaker 4 (05:54):
As they try to figure things out. I've always I've been.

Speaker 2 (05:56):
A Sarage fan. I felt like he got this cast
a little bit.

Speaker 1 (05:59):
He went through, uh when he was in the Philadelphia
you know, originally in the Minnesota backfield.

Speaker 2 (06:04):
I thought the worst thing for.

Speaker 1 (06:05):
Him was going to the Phoenix because he was completely
miscast when he was in Phoenix.

Speaker 2 (06:09):
And you know, I think you're right.

Speaker 1 (06:10):
And when you get him and when you get him
the right amount of minutes, which I think is right
around that twenty minute mark. When you get him right
around that, I think he's at his best. He's a
guy who can get your buckets. He he's okay with
the basketball in his hands. He can make outlet pass
or too. He's not gonna have huge turnover. So get
a couple of assists, but they're the rebounding. He can
chip in on the rebounding as well. And that's to
me the biggest thing. I mean, because you've got Nicola
and you've got Aaron Gordon, they haven't been able to rebound.

Speaker 2 (06:31):
Outside of that.

Speaker 1 (06:32):
Michael Porter has some days where he put it. He
pulled in some boards and and he's sort of transitioning
again to sort of play more of that four, be
a three and a stretch four. But he's I mean,
you've got to have rebounders on this team, and you've
got to have people that are aggressive and going to
go get the ball.

Speaker 2 (06:47):
And hopefully he can be that guy when he comes in.

Speaker 3 (06:49):
But see, that's the great thing about Westbrook, Like for
being a guard, he will go hustle. He's going to
go get those particular boards. But here's The thing that
bothers me, like this is where I like Dario over
DeAndre Jordan, because when Deandre's on the floor, what is
he really giving you offensively?

Speaker 4 (07:08):
Not much? Right, He's not not much.

Speaker 3 (07:10):
But at least Dario can give you a little of
little something to keep Nicola a little fresh. Now, we're
not saying that Dario is going to give you, like
maybe like a triple double.

Speaker 4 (07:21):
No he's not that guy.

Speaker 3 (07:22):
No, he's not that guy. But at least you know,
if you're a coach Malone. But Deandre's on the floor.
For me, I feel as though you can't really get
out into your offense right the way you want to
with Dario because he can run the floor. In my opinion,
that allows you to stay somewhat in your offense.

Speaker 4 (07:37):
It gives you an opportunity, and that's all you want.

Speaker 3 (07:40):
You just want someone to kind of stabilize that second unit.

Speaker 4 (07:44):
Where they can score. You can get in.

Speaker 3 (07:46):
Your half court sets and you still can score buckets.
But with DeAndre Jordan, I don't feel as though you
can do that.

Speaker 4 (07:53):
Now. Look, he's a great teammate, he's a hell of
a teammate.

Speaker 3 (07:57):
He's going to stand there, He's gonna root, he's gonna cheer.
He's great for Nicola Jokics in practice. But you need
guys who can help you out on the floor. And
if you want to just keep DeAndre Jordan on the
roster just for practice purposes, then albeit.

Speaker 4 (08:11):
But you have to make sure that you have another
big man back.

Speaker 1 (08:14):
In school and that that was sort of the idea
behind the draft pick who ended up getting himself hurt.
The other thing, I think Christian Braun in the starting lineup,
I don't like it. I like him as a sixth man.
I like him as an energy guy off the bench.
I think he does nitty gritty stuff. You know, he'll
he'll play defense, He'll he'll get in there frustrate somebody
out there at the two. He's willing to go after
boards even if he doesn't always get him.

Speaker 2 (08:34):
But he plays kind of that gritty.

Speaker 1 (08:35):
I know he's a white guy, and I'm saying gritty,
and I hate myself for it, but you understand what
I'm saying.

Speaker 2 (08:38):
He's a gritty basketball player. And it reminds me a
little bit.

Speaker 1 (08:41):
He's more slow than fast for the great and fast
high basketball like you.

Speaker 2 (08:45):
It's like we're a lunch pail guy.

Speaker 1 (08:50):
With Braun, it reminds me a lot of Kemi for Reid, right,
Farid absolute best when he's come out, when he was
coming off the bench as a sixth man and injecting
a shot of energy off the bench, uh, rather than
being in the starting line And you know, maybe this
is me just being a radio guy with a microphone idiot,
but I look at this and I'm like, that's who
he is.

Speaker 2 (09:08):
Though.

Speaker 1 (09:08):
He's a high energy guy, hustle defender who could make
some shots. He could dunk of basketball, do whatever. But
he's a gritty basketball player who gives you a shot
in the arm when he comes.

Speaker 4 (09:16):
Off the bench. And I think that that's good.

Speaker 1 (09:18):
I think it's good to have guys like that because
as you start to wear down a little bit, and
you know, then you sub guys out, you want to
pick the energy back up. I like Strawther in the
starting lineup more than I.

Speaker 2 (09:28):
Like Christian Braun.

Speaker 1 (09:30):
Mike Malone is reluctant to do stuff like that because Braun's.

Speaker 3 (09:32):
Boy, Wow Strauther in the starting lineup. The two So
so now you're putting.

Speaker 1 (09:39):
Murray Strawther or if you if you're if you go
in your scenario, then you got Westbrook at the point,
Murray at the two, Strawther becomes the seventh man. But
if you're if you're going with a Murray starting at
the point, then you put Strawther at the two. I
don't know, you bring and you bring it, and you
bring Braun and Westbrook on at the same time when
you rotate them.

Speaker 3 (09:57):
Out, don't I don't, Okay, So I understand why you
saying what you're saying because Strawton was, you know, drafted
because being a shooter and everything like that, and he.

Speaker 2 (10:07):
Can play the two and the three. You can kick
them around.

Speaker 1 (10:09):
Like I said, when you do this rotation that I'm
thinking of, if you're starting Murray at the one, you
can always have Murray slide over at brig in Westbrook
and then you could have Murray pull out and then
you put Braun intro.

Speaker 4 (10:20):
I worry about Strawthor's defense though. Yeah, it's it's a
little bit lack.

Speaker 2 (10:23):
It's it's a little bit lacking.

Speaker 1 (10:24):
But if you need a spark, I mean, he's got range,
you know, and we saw you can shoot, you know,
if you give him, if you give him the minutes,
he'll shoot the three.

Speaker 4 (10:29):
Yeah, well that's that.

Speaker 3 (10:30):
That's the guy who seemed as though he's better coming
off the bench with Kristen Braun aka Mister Adrenaline, Right,
I mean, it seemed like those guys are best suited
for that. Now I can see if Coast Malone wanted
to experiment with that for preseason purposes to see what.

Speaker 4 (10:48):
Then looks like. Oh yeah, I'm all full.

Speaker 1 (10:51):
I'm just remembering back to like the last ten games
last year, right in the regular season, where Strata was
coming off the bench, and he had two games where
he got plus minutes where he got more than ten minutes,
and both the he was and his plus minus was
seven and twelve, right, and then you look at all
the games where he was getting three four minutes off
the bench minus three, minus two, minus one, minus eight,
minus two.

Speaker 2 (11:08):
He's just not He's not as effective coming off the
bench as he was getting more minutes.

Speaker 4 (11:12):
Okay, but putting him in the starting the lineup, I mean,
you're not.

Speaker 3 (11:16):
It's not like you're asking him to do a whole
hell of a lot because he's on the floor with
veteran guys.

Speaker 4 (11:21):
But you still worry in the same thing with christ
and Brown.

Speaker 3 (11:25):
Will those guys be able to keep the offense in
the flow, in the rhythm.

Speaker 4 (11:29):
That's the conservative.

Speaker 1 (11:30):
And that's sort of why that's why I start him
at the two, and then we sub him off as
the first guy ot and Braun comes on, and then
you've got hustle defense coming in there where you've had.
You know, that's just the way I look at it.
You and I are a little misaligned on that. Speaking
of alignment, Calvin Booth Coach Malone, Yeah, you.

Speaker 3 (11:46):
Know what, these guys they won the best of the team,
but they have two different viewpoints, right, you know, cost.

Speaker 2 (11:53):
A politics conversation or he was the best for America
but they rew it once again.

Speaker 4 (12:00):
You can apply it.

Speaker 3 (12:01):
Any way you want to, but this is kind of
what your face with, right. One guy in Kevin Booth,
he wants to go with younger guys and he's thinking
about the future. Coach Malone thinks about the president, and
he's more apt to go towards veteran guys. And I
can understand his approach, right. You just think about his
coaching linear is where he comes from, his dad coaching

(12:22):
with the Detroit Pistons and having so many veteran guys
who you know what they're able to do. The young
guys you don't. And this is why you talk about
Strada and other guys like even Ichnology, he hasn't really
played that much. And remember what happened with Bone with Highland. Yeah, right,
So this is where coach Malone pretty much cut his
teeth and relying heavily on veteran players.

Speaker 4 (12:44):
And there's nothing wrong with that.

Speaker 3 (12:46):
And I think the reason why coach Malone feels that
way is because when you think about the window from
Nikola Jokic, and I think that's where the rubber meets
to roll, because for me, it's not about any other
player on the team. It's like your championship window is
based around the health and the production of Nicola Jokich, right,

(13:07):
and you have to maximize that. If you have a
team full of young players, now you got to develop them, right.
And now that you get to a point where Booth
wants the younger players to develop for the future, planning
on life after Nicola, and coach Malone is planning for
life winning more championship with Nicola.

Speaker 4 (13:27):
How does that mesh.

Speaker 1 (13:28):
Well, that's I mean, that's the question between any front
office and coach when whatever the sport may be, because
that coach understands that they've got to win now to
keep their job, and that front office is like, I
got to keep the pipeline going because or I'm going
to be out of a job. And so sometimes you
have a situation where those goals may not be perfectly
in sync, even if they do more or less aligne.

Speaker 2 (13:47):
You want to win now and you want to win
in the future.

Speaker 1 (13:49):
I think the front office has to take more of
a bird's eye view in the sense that like, hey,
you know, I may be sacrificing something right now for
long term gain, whereas the head coach is never going
to want to do that the sport maybe he's never
going to want to sacrifice something now for something in
the future.

Speaker 2 (14:04):
I get what Calvin Booth is doing.

Speaker 1 (14:07):
And part of this is because you've had to let
guys go to the money. You've got the salary cap
in basketball now. You couldn't keep it Toget, you couldn't
keep Bruce Brown, you couldn't keep KCP. You're not going
to probably be able to keep Adon Gordon after this year,
and so you have to have an eye on how
am I going to keep this pipeline going while we're
in a window with arguably the best basketball player on
the planet.

Speaker 3 (14:24):
I listen, I understand wanting to make sure that the
pipeline is there. And obviously, because you have three guys
Nikola Jokiche, Jamal Murray and Michael Porter Junior all on
Max steels, it makes things really difficult. But here's why
I say, when you look at coach Malone, he's on

(14:47):
the right side of this because you know Nikola Jokich
can basically play with anyone. And because you have a
marquee player like that, you can sell the idea in Denver,
the city of to other veteran players where you probably
couldn't do it in years past, because do you want
to play when Nikoli Jokich, period, point blank, that's it.

(15:08):
That's like Nick Saban when he was coaching, rolling into
recruitse house houses and all he had to do is
put the rings down on the table and talk about
how many guys he got drafted, and that's it.

Speaker 4 (15:18):
It sells itself.

Speaker 3 (15:18):
It does so the whole idea of getting younger players
because you want to keep the salary cap down, you
still can get veteran players who can add value and
keep that championship window open. But those guys may be
willing to take less money to be able to do so.

Speaker 1 (15:33):
Yeah, I mean the Patriots had that model, you know, forever,
and it worked over twenty years he did. The problem is,
if they're twofold one basketball contracts are fully guaranteed. Whereas
the Patriots could get out from under some of those
contracts because they weren't, you can't.

Speaker 2 (15:47):
In the NBA, they're fully guaranteed. So that creates its own.

Speaker 1 (15:51):
That creates its own issue, and then you know the
other part is just making sure guys want to be
Guys have to want to buy in.

Speaker 5 (15:55):
To do that.

Speaker 3 (15:56):
Well, come on, man, the Kohli jokch how could you
not want to buy into?

Speaker 1 (16:00):
I want to, but you know also I want that
sweetweet NBA guaranteed money exactly only I could shoot, defend, rebound,
or you know, anything.

Speaker 3 (16:06):
Else, and you know it would help with your couple
of inches taller too.

Speaker 1 (16:09):
I wish I was a little bit taller. I wish
I was a baller. Broncos Country Night back with a
six pack after this welcome back to it, Broncos Country
Tonight Benjamin Albrighten, Nick Ferguson, Grant Smith.

Speaker 2 (16:21):
Here with you. Shout out our guy Tim Winz, who's

uh yeah, I learned something, learn something every time it

Speaker 2 (16:35):
Got some good beers, a little cool vibe there.

Speaker 1 (16:36):
So tell I'm gonna go check out Lot forty six afterwards,
Lot forty six. Well, Tim, if you listening and go
to Lot forty six afterwards. Grant Smith gives it his
highest recommendation. We'll just have to be stuck here at
studio with her on six pack.

Speaker 5 (16:47):
It's time for the NFL six pack.

Speaker 4 (16:50):
I'm gonna trade the last beer to night.

Speaker 5 (16:51):
Insight and insight information you can't find anywhere else.

Speaker 1 (16:55):
No.

Speaker 5 (16:56):
Six the Top six NFL headline.

Speaker 1 (16:59):
What the NFL Players Association is called to move media
interviews outside the locker room, Calling the practice outdated, Players
Association call for curbs on locker room interviews on Fridays,
saying that they were an invasion of players privacy, urging
members to seek interviews outside the locker room during the week.

Speaker 2 (17:16):
Reporters regularly mingle with players in the locker room on
game day and on practice.

Speaker 1 (17:19):
Days, putting media's members of the media in close quarters
with athletes courtesy of media policies that the Players Association
called outdated. Players feel the locker room interviews invade their
privacy and are uncomfortable, and this isn't about limiting media access,
but we're about respecting players privacy and dignity, the NFLPA
said in a statement which you could read on Twitter
at the NFLPA account.

Speaker 2 (17:38):
We the NFLPA.

Speaker 1 (17:38):
Executive Committee urged the NFL to make immediate changes to
foster a more respectful and safer workplace where all players.
The NFL did not immediately respond to a request for comment.

Speaker 2 (17:49):
The Pro Football.

Speaker 1 (17:49):
Writers Association of America said NFL players asking to speak
outside the locker room has always.

Speaker 2 (17:55):
Been a part of the league's media access policy.

Speaker 1 (17:57):
We're continuing discussions with the NFLPA regarding media access and
the goals to make everybody comfortable in locker room settings.
Have players and clubs follow every NFL media policy. The
NFLPA rep Ted Carris, who's the center for the Cincinnati
Bengals tot reporters this week. The players' comfort with locker
room interview has been a long standing issue. The topic
was brought to before, he said, after a couple of

(18:17):
guys were naked on camera.

Speaker 4 (18:18):
This year.

Speaker 2 (18:19):
Arra says he yolaps that each team would cold.

Speaker 1 (18:21):
Come up with a plan to conduct interviews outside the
locker room. I'll practice stating during the week in order
to get guys off guys, guys, cameras off guys in
private moments.

Speaker 2 (18:30):
You gotta, we gotta.

Speaker 1 (18:32):
Yeah, I don't flub the lines too much, but I
love that one. Let's try that again, get cameras off
guys in private moments. It's been a topic of discussion
since COVID COVID.

Speaker 5 (18:50):
I got me.

Speaker 2 (18:51):
I almost tell it together, Dick coven to crack.

Speaker 1 (18:54):
Anyway, as the person in the NFLPA, Nick and the
person who's been in the locker room potentially on camera,
we would know, how do you feel about a media
in the locker room? And b the NFLPA requesting is, well,
the media they have a job.

Speaker 3 (19:08):
To do, so men or women they come into the
locker room, but you know, to maintain proper etiquette. Dating
back to a story I heard when I first got
into the league when Irvin Fryar was a member of
the New England Patriots and something that he did which
I dare not say, but it was inappropriate. But I
understand the player's aspect of it. When the people in

(19:31):
the media, like Mike Shanahan used to do a great
job of after the game, he gives us a talk,
he gives us a couple of minutes to take a
shower and get ourselves together. So maybe that's something that
more teams should employ it. But that's gonna be hard
to get all players to do their post game interviews
outside the locker room. I mean, can you imagine walking

(19:53):
down the hall and you got thirty guys and you
got forty reporters trying to talk to him? That part
doesn't make any sense.

Speaker 1 (19:58):
Yeah, for me, I'll say this, For the the media
side of the house, it's easy. It's it's always I've
never had an issue with it.

Speaker 4 (20:03):
I don't.

Speaker 1 (20:04):
I mean, like I can get the discomfort. I've been
on the other side of it, you know, making the
locker room, you get it. You know, you understand that is,
But like for me, approaching somebody, I try to approach
them respectully, wait till they're gun shower and get their
clothes on.

Speaker 2 (20:16):
That's the standard on a towel or whatever else.

Speaker 1 (20:17):
And we had some funn comments from ky yus Check
and Tory Smith Day've on that stuff.

Speaker 2 (20:20):
It was hilarious. Go read their twitters.

Speaker 1 (20:22):
But like you know, it's always been it was easier
for me to do what I do approaching somebody when
they're close to the locker it's sort of a contained
setting and hey man, you get a second, I'm gonna ask,
you know, and do that kind of thing, rather than
standing in the hall where I talk to somebody and
all sudden I get a crowd and now it's no
longer a one on one conversation. I'm all for finding
a way to do this that works. We get kept

(20:45):
out of the locker room until you're fully closed, you know,
finding stuff like that. There's got to be a compromise
here that works, you know, I always want the dignity
be preserved.

Speaker 2 (20:53):
I don't anybody feel.

Speaker 1 (20:53):
Uncomfortable, but it's just I'm saying it's just been easier
for me to be able to do that and what
I do and how I get quotes from people in
that regard other than sitting in a scrum, which is
usually worthless because I got every nerd on the planet
asking the dumbest question possible.

Speaker 4 (21:05):
Yeah. I've experienced that too as well.

Speaker 3 (21:07):
But also you have individuals who are two lockers down
or a locker down, listening to and recording someone else
here hustling.

Speaker 4 (21:14):
On your commisation as well.

Speaker 3 (21:15):
Yeah, and then now they take that and they say
something they shouldn't say, but listen, there is a true
way to deal with this situation. But removing reporters out
of the locker room, I don't think that's the problem solution.

Speaker 2 (21:26):
Okay, two, think we're on that.

Speaker 4 (21:28):
One.

Speaker 1 (21:28):
Wide receiver Rodells Beckham had his twenty one day practice
window open this week, full participant all three days Dolphins list.
Beckham is questionable to play Sunday against the Patriots. Team
would have to activate him from the reserve pup list
by four pm Eastern.

Speaker 2 (21:42):
That would have been today's order to play this week,
so that's not happening.

Speaker 1 (21:44):
Beckham only played thirty five games since the start of
the twenty twenty season. Corner camp Smith Hamstring also returned
to practice this week. Is questionable to play after full
practices all week. Remains on the ir Quarterback Skyler Thompson
has rim issue, had limited work in.

Speaker 2 (21:57):
Three practice days this week and is questionable.

Speaker 1 (21:59):
Tyler Huntley will start for the second consecutive week for
the Dolphins. What do we think about Odell Beckham at
this point in his career? And are we excited to
see him at the.

Speaker 3 (22:05):
Dolphins whenever he shows up? But once again, if he does,
who's thrown him to damn ball? And how productive will
he actually beat? I mean, it's great because it's OHBJ,
but OBJ hasn't been OBJ.

Speaker 2 (22:21):
Been a while?

Speaker 4 (22:22):
Yes, been a minute? Yes?

Speaker 5 (22:26):
Sorry?

Speaker 4 (22:27):
S thinking of who's.

Speaker 2 (22:27):
Gonna throw him the ball? The Dolphins released him Boyle today.

Speaker 1 (22:30):
The team announced in an indication that Skyler Thompson's the
least healthy enough to back up Tyler Huntley.

Speaker 2 (22:35):
Thompson's listed as questionable.

Speaker 1 (22:36):
Boyle played Week three, completing seven or thirteen passes for
seventy nine yards.

Speaker 2 (22:40):
And was active as Huntley's backup in Week four.

Speaker 1 (22:42):
As departure opens a roster spot the Dolphins could use
on either Beckham or corner Cam Smith after both players
had their twenty one day practice window open this week,
Like the Dolphins quarterback situation is bad. You got Skyler
Thompson and snow Potley, it's probably gonna be it's gonna
be Stopotey this week. Neither one of these guys, I
think in strength fear. We've all seen the comments from
Beyon Sanders that he'd be okay with should or going
to Miami. If you're the Miami Dolphins, are you I'm

(23:04):
not saying pack it in, but you're you haven't You
can't win. You haven't even held a lead for a
minute in any game so far this season. Is it
time to start thinking about some business decisions?

Speaker 4 (23:12):
Pack it up, pag it in, let me begin.

Speaker 3 (23:15):
Yes, exactly is something that the Dolphins might want to
consider because do you want to make sure that you
are positioning yourself to have.

Speaker 4 (23:24):
A top pick. And we know the Miami.

Speaker 3 (23:26):
Dolphins have been in this situation before with Brian Flores
when there was a little some.

Speaker 4 (23:31):
Sketchy stuff going.

Speaker 3 (23:32):
How can we position the Miami Dolphins to the point
where they had the first round pick right now?

Speaker 4 (23:38):
It's it's really easy.

Speaker 1 (23:40):
I think you have Dolphins owner Stephens Ross go up
to Mike McDaniel, who's looking more and more like Al
Davis these days. By the way, with the glasses, with
the chain and the track suits.

Speaker 2 (23:51):
Mike McDaniel is slowly Morphgt.

Speaker 5 (23:53):
Al Davis. All Right, I think you have to go
off to look.

Speaker 1 (23:57):
Look, I can't ask you to tank games like I
did to blow Foyes with a cash incentive.

Speaker 2 (24:01):
But if this team were to get X, Y and
Z players out.

Speaker 1 (24:05):
Of the draft, I would be up, and in fact
your extension would be ready to go at that moment.

Speaker 5 (24:11):
I four, let's keep.

Speaker 2 (24:13):
A Dolphins heavy.

Speaker 1 (24:14):
Why not? The NFL's chief medical officer says league will
play no part in determining when or if Tua returns
to the Dolphins. Doctor Alan Sills said on an immediate
conference call today that tagab La ultimately needs to make
his own decisions based on the information he gets from
the doctors he gets outs with Lee does not step
into decisions made by club medical staff and individual players.
Patient autonomy and medical decision.

Speaker 2 (24:34):
Making really matters, still, said. Sills.

Speaker 1 (24:36):
Also said, have an addition of working with a Dolphins,
the medical staff talking about Low has consulted with top
neurological experts from around the country. You have the best
device he can about how to deal with the repeated
concussions that have affected his career and currently have him
on the injured reserve to suffered a concussion a week
two against the Bills that is eligible return from the
IRS since Week eight against the Cardinals. Still said there's
no formula involved involving a specific number of concussions that

(24:57):
determines whether a player can be can clear to continue
playing football. Every player's case is assatsified based on the
player's own needs, and the league use that to the
players and the doctors who treat them.

Speaker 2 (25:07):
What do you think about the league not getting not
getting involved with Tua and his concussions?

Speaker 4 (25:13):
And for me, I find that hard to believe.

Speaker 3 (25:14):
I thought the league would actually get involved with it
because they have those neurologists that are always there. Who
is the spotters to determine if a guy has someone
of an issue and.

Speaker 4 (25:26):
Knowing as oh concussions continue to.

Speaker 3 (25:28):
Be someone of an issue both high school, college and
the pros that the league would step in unless they
feel as though the Dolphins are doing a great job
and it's per policy, maybe that would be the reason.
But known as though two has had a bevy of concussions.
Maybe you might want to step in just to have
someone being extra boys, just in case something goes wrong.

Speaker 1 (25:51):
I'm extremely interested to see what doctor is going to
sign off on this, Like who's putting their medical license
on the line for TA to come back.

Speaker 2 (25:56):
And play football, because that's what you're doing.

Speaker 4 (25:59):
See, I've really don't know.

Speaker 3 (26:00):
But there's a much larger discussion here that we can
have next week on the show as it pertains through
concussions and contracts.

Speaker 1 (26:08):
Okay, we'll put a pin in that, and Grant's got
that down on the rundown already. Stop Deante Adams last
wink as the Raider happened in Baltimore and he might
be interested in returning. Adams posted on his Instagram story
of photo of that. Garalan Poe Pose a Baltimore native
whose works include the raven which is why the local
NFL team has.

Speaker 2 (26:26):
Even named the Ravens.

Speaker 1 (26:27):
He's currently there's currently no reason to think the Ravens
necessarily what Adams. On Friday Pro Football Talk Live, Rodney
Harrison made a strong case why the Ravens and Adams
are a perfect fit.

Speaker 2 (26:37):
As defenses load up against the run.

Speaker 1 (26:38):
There are the opportunities in the past game four Adams. Also,
the Ravens are true shortlist day of secret tender. None
of that matters that the Raiders Ravens aren't interested. Maybe
upon an upcoming midnight Drewrey general manager Eric DaCosta will
ponder weekend weary of the possibility of pursuing a recent
visitor who, along with his teammates, did more than tap
on the home team's chamber door.

Speaker 2 (26:57):
That's a Poe reference for you.

Speaker 1 (26:59):
Any offer to the Raiders by the Ravens, so the
Ravens will simply say not this time or maybe never more.

Speaker 3 (27:05):
Well, if Devanzi Adams wanted to be really secretive and
just kind of toss some things out there, I mean
eg Al and Paul, Yeah, I understand that.

Speaker 4 (27:16):
What about Omar Little from.

Speaker 3 (27:19):
The wire right or Stringer Bell, maybe he could have
done that instead, just indicate Baltimore.

Speaker 1 (27:25):
Well the other part of that, I mean, Poe lived
in Philadelphia for a while as well.

Speaker 2 (27:30):
Maybe the Eagles they're short handed on receivers.

Speaker 5 (27:32):
Who knows.

Speaker 2 (27:32):
I'm just saying. I'm just you know, you look like
you were about to say something.

Speaker 1 (27:36):
Oh okay, yeah, I tried to drop all those poet
references in read.

Speaker 5 (27:40):
A Book six speaking of the.

Speaker 1 (27:42):
Ravens, they are creeping up again on a record of
consecutive games with one hundred or more rushing yards.

Speaker 2 (27:49):
Back in twenty twenty one.

Speaker 1 (27:50):
The Ravens matched the old time record for consecutive games
with one hundred and more roteine rushing yards. To get there,
the Ravens opted not to run the clock but to
go for the record, rankling former Broncos head coach Fangio,
I think we all remember that the streak ended the
next week, and the Ravens and the Steelers remain tied
at forty three straight games.

Speaker 2 (28:06):
But here comes the Ravens again.

Speaker 1 (28:07):
Baltimore's current streak is thirty seven, just six game shy
matching the record. If the Ravens match the record they
currently share with the Steelers, the chance to break it
will come at you guessed it, Pittsburgh. The Ravens last
failed to game one hundred rushing yards in Week one
of the twenty twenty two season.

Speaker 2 (28:23):
That Jets held into sixty three yards on twenty one attempts. Right,
he's won that game, by the way. Twenty four to nine.

Speaker 1 (28:28):
Ravens also could become the fifth team to generate one
thousand rushing yards in the first five games of a season.
They only need one hundred and nineteen yards to get there.
With one hundred and fifty, they'll pass the nineteen eighty three,
of course, Steelers for fourth on the all time team
rushing list through five games. How do we feel about
the Ravens getting getting too that streak? And if they

(28:48):
do get there, they'll they'll have to break it against
the team that owns the time breaker with important I.

Speaker 3 (28:52):
Think that's great because here's what we've seen over the
past couple years. We've seen the running back position de value.
The Tennessee Titans told Derrick Henry, hey, thanks for coming out.
We appreciate what you have provided for us. We got
a couple of partying gifts over. Now he goes over
to the Baltimore Ravens and he's showing his though, guess what,

(29:12):
My legs are not done, and neither am I. So
if you able to do it against someone who currently
holds the record for me, I'm all for it.

Speaker 4 (29:22):
But hopefully it changes the.

Speaker 3 (29:23):
Conversation about running backs.

Speaker 4 (29:25):
And how valuable they are.

Speaker 2 (29:26):
I think we're pivoting back the other direction.

Speaker 3 (29:28):
On that.

Speaker 1 (29:28):
I think that as teams have gotten lighter and lighter,
and they go to Nicol and Diame looks with lighter
corners trying to match up with receivers, teams that can
find a back like a Derek Henry or a Saquon
Barkley that can run with power and authority and catch
the ball out of the backfield a little bit.

Speaker 2 (29:42):
All of a sudden, they become very dangerous.

Speaker 1 (29:43):
If it's me, Well, the league is getting into eleven
and you know, eleven personnel and ten personnel, you know,
get me a twelve personnel?

Speaker 3 (29:52):
You know, no how would get in like a thirteen personnel?
Three tight ends and I'm running the ball and I
could throw the ball.

Speaker 2 (29:59):
Heavy formation the ball because you were dogging me for
all my NC Double A games.

Speaker 4 (30:03):
That's different. That's different. That's that's that's different. But what I'm.

Speaker 3 (30:08):
Talking about is something you can do as a change
up right to get in thirteen personnel, because Pittsburgh Steelers
have been known for doing that in their time and
being able to run the ball and pass out of
that formation. In order that the league changed the rules,
like if they pull a guard, you can't cut those
guys anymore. You have to stand there and allow them

(30:28):
to run you over. But they say they're trying to
protect every player. I guess the guys on the defensive
side of the ball, we really don't count.

Speaker 1 (30:35):
You guys are just you know, you guys are Swiss cheese.
I don't care about that. We gotta protect the offense,
and no, you.

Speaker 4 (30:41):
Gotta protect everyone. Look. If I'm out there and you.

Speaker 3 (30:44):
Got a guy that's sixty six three hund of the
Pals coming around the corner, breathing really heavy and salivating,
looking to run me over, I'm gonna cut as big ass.

Speaker 1 (30:53):
Well, not just that, you got six two two fifty
Derek Henry running behind him.

Speaker 4 (30:57):
Oof, that's painful. Yeah, we got to.

Speaker 3 (31:02):
You know what, I'm knife in every single one of
those guys, and they're just gonna.

Speaker 4 (31:07):
Have to flag me.

Speaker 1 (31:08):
Henry, by the way, averaging six yards to carry, the
most he's averaged ever in his career at thirty years old.
The last time he had over five yards per carry
back in twenty twenty, at twenty six years old five
point four to carry, when he had twenty twenty seven
yards seventeen touchdowns for the season in Tennessee Rosmore.

Speaker 4 (31:23):
Raven's played it Titians this year. Tell me they do.

Speaker 2 (31:27):
I am not sure.

Speaker 3 (31:28):
I'm not looking at the schedule, but I hope that
they do because I would love to see it.

Speaker 4 (31:33):
You know. Oh man, it's scheduling, screwed it up.

Speaker 3 (31:38):
I would have loved to see Derrick Henry play against
his former team and just bludging them to death.

Speaker 2 (31:43):
Yeah they don't. They do play the Broncos though.

Speaker 3 (31:46):
Ooh oh wow, yeah, November third, you better do all
your your triceps and biceps and make.

Speaker 2 (31:54):
Sure, guys, we need to be healthy for that game.

Speaker 5 (31:58):
Death.

Speaker 1 (32:00):
Oh my goodness. All right, Raiders Broncos this weekend? What
have we got guys?

Speaker 3 (32:04):
Hey, I already told you I'm taking the Broncos on That.
A great time for bow Knicks to finally come alive
it huh.

Speaker 2 (32:13):
We'll call him Peter Frampton because he's coming alive.

Speaker 4 (32:15):
Hey, whatever, whatever, whatever it takes.

Speaker 2 (32:19):
I like the Broncos as well. We said it earlier.
I think it's a big weekend for them.

Speaker 1 (32:22):
I think they're going to ride the crowd and the
alumni be in there.

Speaker 2 (32:25):
I think they win twenty to thirteen.

Speaker 1 (32:28):
Okay, I've got Broncos twenty four to seventeen in a
game that isn't actually that close, the garbage touchdown at
the end to make it close.

Speaker 2 (32:34):
I do believe they'll win this one.

Speaker 1 (32:36):
I do believe they'll run the football effectively, and they'll
try to pick their spots for bow knicks.

Speaker 4 (32:39):
Run the damn ball.

Speaker 2 (32:41):
Please, what the D on the helmet stands for?

Speaker 4 (32:44):
Hopes, hopefully just to see Broncos.
