Speaker 1 (00:00):
Well them do it Broncos Country tonight. But with all Bran,
Nick Ferguson Grant Smith, we.
Speaker 2 (00:04):
Have given away the Broncos tickets.
Speaker 3 (00:06):
Kathy Bell was our winner. So Kathy Bell, you should
be getting an email on that and you can.
Speaker 2 (00:12):
You'll be at the.
Speaker 1 (00:12):
Broncos Chargers game this Sunday, courtesy of the Sporty Pickle
m KOA Monday Night football Action Chiefs.
Speaker 2 (00:21):
Beating the Saints sixteen to seven.
Speaker 1 (00:23):
Saints driving right now, see if they can make this
thing a little more competitive.
Speaker 2 (00:28):
Nick, I wanted to kind of get.
Speaker 3 (00:30):
Into a couple of different things here.
Speaker 1 (00:33):
We do have this Chargers game coming up, and this
is a This is a different Chargers team than it
has been.
Speaker 2 (00:40):
The Chargers have.
Speaker 1 (00:43):
Had some coaching there that I, you know, mostly disagreed
with a lot of the decisions that they made.
Speaker 3 (00:48):
But they do have some some talent on that roster.
Speaker 2 (00:50):
Although they're a little banged up.
Speaker 1 (00:51):
But I believe that Jim Harball being there is going
to make that team a lot tougher. They certainly seem
like they have a tougher identity right now.
Speaker 3 (01:02):
And I don't.
Speaker 1 (01:04):
Want to pencil this in as a w because it
largely has been for the Broncos. But how nice would
it be if the Broncos were able to pull a
win out of this thing, and all of a sudden,
you're four and two going into a primetime Thursday night
football game, putting your defense on full display against the
New Orleans Saints team to struggle with the Chiefs defense.
Speaker 4 (01:21):
Well, it would be great then, for so many reasons,
And for me right off the bat, that is another
win on on the win column. So the street continues,
the level of confidence continues. But the other thing is
that would be two consecutive divisional victories in the Western
(01:43):
Conference because once again you still have Kansas City you
have to continue with. And before the beginning of the season,
most people looked at the Denver Broncos, especially with the
rookie quarterback and bow Nicks, with low expectations. So the
Broncos have thus far this season exceeded some of those
(02:05):
early expectations. And to have two AFC West victories before
you even play Kansas City makes things really interesting within
it itself.
Speaker 2 (02:19):
And I was telling you one of the fans here
who came by here.
Speaker 4 (02:23):
At the Sporty Pickle that I said, well, when we
look at the Broncos as a whole, the offense hasn't
really caught up yet. And I know the Broncos scored
thirty four points. PS two has seven of those on
his own, six of those on his own. But the
way that I look at it is that the Broncos
(02:44):
are still winning, the offense is still yet to string
back to back precision games.
Speaker 2 (02:50):
Together, and you have a league top defense.
Speaker 4 (02:54):
So for me, the problem is of the beginning of
the season still looks like a large opportunity looms for
the Broncos if they can get the offense going.
Speaker 1 (03:05):
It does and we've talked about this kind of ad nauseum,
so I don't want to sit there and beat, you know,
beat a dead horse on those kinds of things.
Speaker 2 (03:11):
But the Broncos are really going.
Speaker 1 (03:12):
To have to continue to stick to, commit to and
build off of the ground game, and I think if
they can do that, they'll be successful in sort of
growing a passing game the way that they need to
organically through what bo can do.
Speaker 3 (03:27):
You know, we look at the game yesterday.
Speaker 2 (03:29):
And there were some opportunities that were lost.
Speaker 3 (03:31):
We're dropped. In Troy Franklin's case, we could have been.
Speaker 1 (03:33):
You know, he hits that throw and we'll probably talking
about that is the moment BO grew up? Right now,
you know how narratives are, We're probably talking about that,
there's the moment that Bo became Bo, especially if he
strings together another couple of good offensive games. You know,
it's it's it's funny how this league is a day
to day so fit came to game week to week,
play to play league.
Speaker 2 (03:54):
You know.
Speaker 1 (03:56):
The thing that I think that we're starting to see
here is I don't know if bon Nixy is the future.
Speaker 3 (04:01):
Franchise quarterback.
Speaker 2 (04:04):
Yet.
Speaker 3 (04:05):
I don't know he has not is not there yet.
Speaker 2 (04:07):
We don't know that yet.
Speaker 1 (04:08):
But what we do know is he is capable of
playing in this league and he's growing up week to
week and we're seeing it. It's funny because the game
yesterday was decided by so many The little things weren't getting.
Speaker 2 (04:18):
Done, but the big things were right.
Speaker 1 (04:20):
We're getting picked sixties, we're getting explosive plays, we're getting
the big things, but we're not consistent yet.
Speaker 2 (04:27):
And that's the mark.
Speaker 3 (04:28):
That's that's when you round into being a good football.
Speaker 4 (04:31):
Well home skill that I got to put back a
little on.
Speaker 2 (04:35):
That because here's the thing.
Speaker 4 (04:37):
Yeah, it is early with bo we don't know what
the future looks like. But dealing with the president, we
know that he embodies all the skills that's required.
Speaker 2 (04:46):
To be an effective quarterback in the league. Oh yeah,
I mean I think he's proven he can play in
this league.
Speaker 4 (04:51):
Yes, I mean the shot, the shot down the field
right to Troy Franks.
Speaker 1 (04:56):
Saying if Troy catches it, conversation, Even.
Speaker 4 (04:59):
Though Troy up the ball, that shows you that the
on talent is there. Even with the trick play when
the Broncos threw it down the field to Josh Reynolds. Reynolds,
it showed as though the guy can push the ball
down the field. It just Broncos fans haven't seen it
at a higher clip. So that's where some of the
questions lie as to well Campbell be the quarterback of
(05:23):
the future.
Speaker 2 (05:24):
Unless you tell me in two years there's going to
be another quarterback.
Speaker 4 (05:28):
I don't believe that, because I believe that there is
a commitment by George Peyton, and we've heard it for
the past two weeks. Sean Payton said it himself. We
got us around and build around both, right, I'm fully
build around as.
Speaker 3 (05:45):
Far as that goes, I'm not trying to say.
Speaker 2 (05:46):
I'm just saying I don't.
Speaker 3 (05:47):
Know for a fact that he's a franchise quarterback.
Speaker 1 (05:49):
Yet I know he can play in this league, I
don't know if he can ever be around.
Speaker 4 (05:53):
In Well, Ben, you don't become a franchise quarterback until
you become a franchise quarterback.
Speaker 1 (05:58):
Agreed, That's what I'm saying, Just not trying to jump
to that point yet. I'm at the building point.
Speaker 4 (06:03):
It's like the Heisman, but in order to win a Heisman,
the question is when.
Speaker 2 (06:08):
Was that Heisman moment the best quarterback?
Speaker 1 (06:12):
Yes, but still we're just gonna We're just gonna hose
the two most deserving people this year in Ash Janty
up there in the Boise.
Speaker 3 (06:18):
And Travis Hunter here in Colorado.
Speaker 2 (06:21):
Would definitely have to get into that one of these days.
Speaker 4 (06:24):
But when it comes to the Heisman, it's how many
Heisman moments have you had come from behind victories?
Speaker 2 (06:32):
You were the difference maker and a get you know that? Yes?
Speaker 4 (06:35):
So to me, from what we've seen from Bow, he's
had some of those moments that that throw to Troy
Franklin was.
Speaker 2 (06:44):
One of those moments.
Speaker 4 (06:45):
Could have been one of those moments, but it failed
to be that defining moment because Troy drops the ball.
Speaker 2 (06:50):
But it says that Bow has those capability. Yeah, he
started be.
Speaker 1 (06:54):
Capable of making that play. I'm not saying again, I'm
not disagreeing with you on this. I just I bristle
a little bit at the he's arrived. He hasn't arrived,
says that many many people for yesterday and then the
the I think the way to term this at this
point is is that you've got a solid foundation to
this thing. It looks like it's headed in the right direction,
and I want to continue to see it grow in
(07:16):
the coming weeks. And you know, there are there are
things that, I mean exasperate me in that first half.
Speaker 2 (07:21):
Like he again, like I'm like, bro, what are you?
What are you doing here? You've got guys.
Speaker 1 (07:25):
Running free down the field and you're done. You're late
to the checkdown. You know he got was it the
third down play where he went to the checkdown. It
was in the late sety third quarter and he went
to the check and he threw it and he was
again late to the checkdown and got.
Speaker 2 (07:39):
His back smoked in the flat for no gain. On
what was the third and three or whatever.
Speaker 4 (07:43):
Well, once again plays like that happened because this is
part of the maturation process and growth for both. But
but if when Joe Lombardi Davis is sean paid watch
field and it's okay.
Speaker 2 (08:03):
Well, what can we do to help bow?
Speaker 4 (08:07):
Yeah, maybe there was a curl that was open, but
he decided to throw it to the flat case in
point on the shot to Troy Franklin, you had the
two man stack. I think carl A Sudden ran the slant,
so the idea was, oh, the slant window was open,
he should have threw it. Guess what there was? The
(08:28):
Raiders ran a show play, but I mean my show.
They showed that someone was blissing and then they dropped out.
Someone dropped right into that window, so they took away
that throw. So if you go back and watch it,
you can see Bowl hits like he wants to go there,
but then he pulls it down.
Speaker 2 (08:44):
Troy keeps running and he that's the maguration.
Speaker 1 (08:47):
I agree, and I think we're seeing him grow. I
think we're seeing him grow game by game. I hope
that that trend continues. I hope to see more of
that against the charger. The main thing for me that
I'm looking. I know everybody wants to see the ball
flying all over the yard and the drewpers numbers and
all that kind of stuff.
Speaker 3 (09:01):
You know what I want to see consistency.
Speaker 1 (09:03):
I want to see a quarterback that I'm never worried about.
It's third and three, are we going to get this
or not? I want to I want to have the
same confidence that I used to have when Peyton Manning
was up there, that yeah, you know.
Speaker 2 (09:14):
They didn't get it this drive. They look, you're talking
about comparing into pair. I'm not comparing it to Peyton.
Speaker 1 (09:20):
I'm saying I want to have the same confidence that
this offense has the ability to convert drive in and
drive out to the point where I'm not worried, like, ah,
they didn't get this drive, they'll get it the next one.
Speaker 2 (09:29):
Versus where I was yesterday. They're down to ten nothing.
Speaker 1 (09:31):
I'm like, you know, if they don't have if they
get down seventeen nothing, this thing is over.
Speaker 2 (09:34):
But once the that's not all on Bowl himself.
Speaker 3 (09:39):
No, there's other team. It's on the offense.
Speaker 4 (09:41):
Yeah, it's once again, when you are constructing an offense
around a particular player, in this case, your first round
draft to us. Right, So with Bow being drafted in
the first round twelve, there's a lot of pressure and
expectation that comes along with it. Oh, by the way,
you're following Peyton Manning, John Elway and Jake Plummer right,
(10:05):
there are not too many people.
Speaker 2 (10:07):
It's forty pigot right now. Who wants to put their
feet in those shoes?
Speaker 1 (10:10):
Well, hold on, you've neglected even mentioned your locke.
Speaker 2 (10:15):
I did that for a reason. I did that for
a reason. That's a reason.
Speaker 4 (10:22):
Why didn't those particular guys trying to put your feet
in those shoes? When you're playing for a fan base
where they're thirsty, they're thirsty for a quarterback, they're thirsty
for the team to be back in the playoffs. Again,
to me, that's a lot of pressure. But once again,
help them. That's why when when the altercation took place yesterday,
(10:43):
I was happy to see so many coaches around Bow,
you know, kind of showing their support for him. But
most importantly, his teammate Courtland Sudden Carlin was right there,
Johnny on the spot, like dude, dapping him up.
Speaker 2 (10:57):
I got you. There's a reason he wears.
Speaker 3 (10:59):
You know, court it's got to see you know. I mean,
he's absolutely a captain on this football with the leadership.
Speaker 2 (11:05):
Let's me tell you, he's seen a whole lot he's been. Yeah,
he's saying a lot.
Speaker 1 (11:10):
It might be a little Courtland sid PTSD, you know,
back trying to invoke, but I'm just saying like he
really has.
Speaker 2 (11:17):
Like you can see it.
Speaker 1 (11:18):
Now in Courtland's body language is something that at times
it hasn't been there, but it's there right now. This
is my football team. I'm in charge here, I'm the
one director. I'm You could see it even from the
way he let him out of the tunnel. Hey, you know,
the the retro fallon underneath his helmet and all that.
Speaker 3 (11:33):
It's it's it's good to say. It's a good thing
to see.
Speaker 1 (11:35):
I think Courtland's sort of he's not necessarily in a
contract year, but he is in a contract year because
it's no guaranteed money left on his deal. So you know,
I think he knows that he's playing for possibly somewhere else.
But the the maturation and the you know, the growth
in who he is as a as a person, I
think that's helping rub Off on bo Nicks.
Speaker 4 (11:53):
Well, looking at Courtland long term, I know you say, okay, well,
well caling be here next year.
Speaker 2 (12:02):
That's yet to be seen. But I'm gonna say yes.
Speaker 4 (12:05):
And the reason I say yes, who else has emerged
in that wide receiver.
Speaker 2 (12:09):
Room for one game? And then he cracked his ribs?
Speaker 4 (12:12):
Like I said, who has merged in that wide receiver
room other than Courtland?
Speaker 1 (12:17):
Such little Jordan Humphrey's gonna get every opportunity because that's
Joan Payton's boy. But like I said, for the third time,
who has emerged your point?
Speaker 2 (12:24):
Yes, I mean Courland is a main stay.
Speaker 4 (12:27):
Even though Courtland didn't have as many receptions yesterday.
Speaker 2 (12:31):
That was Javonte Williams.
Speaker 4 (12:33):
But once again with coiling development to that reliable receiver
for bo to me, that standpier because no one else
is development. You mentioned you're disdained for Troy Franklin dropping
the ball all I t G Jr. Right, Marvin Mims
is not being used the Jordan Humphrey. He's going to
(12:54):
get his touches every now and again, right, curl route
screen passes or whatever. But but Courtland is a guy
because Josh Reynolds hasn't really had one of those games
where it's just like eight targets, five receptions, sixty yards.
I mean, I don't even think Josh Reynolds is hit
(13:14):
like the fifty yard mark in a single game for
the Denver Bronco.
Speaker 1 (13:17):
Yeah, and it's That's the other thing that we have
not talked about yet is the distribution of the ball.
Boon Knicks hit one. I think eleven different receivers in
that game. Only three people had more than one catch,
and that was Sutton.
Speaker 3 (13:36):
Little, Jordan Humphrey and of course Davonte Williams.
Speaker 2 (13:39):
Everybody else.
Speaker 1 (13:39):
I mean, yeah, Troy Franklin one catch, Adam Trautman to catch,
Josh Reynolds a catch, eight Atkins to catch, Martin memsa catch,
Mike Burton to catch, Lucas crolla catch.
Speaker 2 (13:47):
McLaughlin had three.
Speaker 3 (13:48):
I'm sorry, Julia had three catches for three yards.
Speaker 1 (13:50):
But they Yeah, it's they distribute the football around everybody.
This is not an offense that just sits there to
set up somebody for a lot of statistical production.
Speaker 3 (14:01):
But it is distributes the.
Speaker 1 (14:03):
Ball to a ton of different people. With all these
different personnel groups they keep putting in well.
Speaker 2 (14:08):
Like a supply chain.
Speaker 4 (14:09):
Ben products needs to be distributed equally, right, So I
get that, But like a supply chain, you may have
a given product that you know that your customers want
and you have to supply that need.
Speaker 2 (14:25):
Right now.
Speaker 4 (14:26):
We know if you look at Sean Payton's offense wherever
he's been with the Giants and Dallas Cowboys and obviously
with the Saints, ball distribution was part of the scheme.
But at some point you have to trim your focus
and say, okay, well we got to get this individual involved.
And the reason I'm saying that is not to take
(14:50):
anything away from coach Payton's IQ from a coaching standpoint,
but just to know that the tight ends haven't been
involved in the offense and we know that. So it's
like how to get multiple people involved. But I asked
you a question, like I asked you last week, what
is it that this team do? What would they do
offensively that you can hang your head on at the
(15:11):
end of the day.
Speaker 2 (15:12):
Is there one thing?
Speaker 1 (15:13):
Well, they run certain plays, they run certain run plays
well when they stick to them. But I mean, there's
not anything that we can There's not something that I
can say is.
Speaker 2 (15:21):
The identity of this offense yet?
Speaker 4 (15:23):
And they need to develop an identity. That's why I
love the distribution chain. But let's somehow try to streamline
it a little to get a couple of more guys involved.
Because opposing defenses and down the line, you got the
Ravens defense, you got the Chiefs defense. Right, those defensive
units are going to get better. And if you're not
(15:46):
honing in on what you do well, I mean, you're
gonna make it.
Speaker 2 (15:49):
Easy for them, right right.
Speaker 3 (15:51):
And that's that's the thing you say.
Speaker 1 (15:53):
They need to they need to get consistent, they need
to grow up, and they've got to have something they
can hang their head on going forward. This is the
part of the season where they've got to figure that out.
We're looking forward to to seeing if they're able to
do that.
Speaker 2 (16:02):
We gotta hit a break. We come back. We got
the NFL six pack.
Speaker 1 (16:05):
K Way, welcome back to it, Broncos Country tonight. Benjamin
al Brden, Nick Ferguson, Grant Smith here with you.
Speaker 2 (16:11):
Let's get to it. NFL six pack. It's time for
the NFL six Pat I'm gonna drink a lot of
beer to drive insight and insight information you can't find
anywhere else. No. Six the top six NFL headlines.
Speaker 1 (16:25):
What is it time to let Russ cook in Pittsburgh?
Any decision is looming at some point down the road,
the answer has a way of usually naturally revealing itself
before it has to be officially made.
Speaker 2 (16:38):
The Steelers the decision.
Speaker 1 (16:39):
On whether revert back to QB one might just have
done that Russell Wilson getting healthier and healthy. Other starting
job was never officially given to Justin Field, so it
technically wouldn't be a benching at the time. For the
non benching to occur could be now Steelers have lost
two in a row. Fields was not particularly sharp on
Sunday night against the Cowboys, where Dallas outplayed Pittsburgh significantly
(16:59):
but barely.
Speaker 2 (17:00):
One could be time with a game.
Speaker 1 (17:02):
Against the Raiders up next to maybe let Russ knock
the rust off in advance of a pair of primetime
games against.
Speaker 2 (17:07):
The New York New Jersey teams.
Speaker 1 (17:09):
Coach by Tomlin meets with their borders every Tuesday, and
the quarterback situation will undoubtedly be the first topic for questions,
unless Tomlin addresses the topic as he might in his
opening remarks. Regardless, the door is now open for Wilson
to play. He's still technically the starter. With the offense
needing a spark, now might be the.
Speaker 2 (17:26):
Time to start him.
Speaker 1 (17:27):
Yes, I used that ironically, as he would be coming
in to give the spark versus last year. Whether it
makes a difference remains to be seen. The running game
is a far cry from the beast mode attack. Wilson
joyed the seattle and having the chains move on the
ground and locks. Wilson's ability to fake a hand off
and throw rainbow down the field. Regardless, three and zero
has become three and two in fields has regressed a bit.
Speaker 3 (17:47):
If Wilson's ready to go, might be time to give
him a go. What's say you, doctor Ferg.
Speaker 4 (17:53):
Yeah, if that will that was bothering Russell being that
lower lay cap injury is good to go, I said,
put him out there. Look, it's come to a point
in the season. You want to know what Russ is
and how well does he fit into Arthur Smith's offense.
And for a while there it looks like Justin Field
(18:14):
was going to get handed the ball and be the
quarterback for the remaining of the season. But since he
is still struggling a little, why not see Russ and
see what he can actually do and if not, you
can always go back.
Speaker 2 (18:27):
To fields, Steelers, Country lets weld. Next story two Chiefs.
Speaker 1 (18:34):
Receiver where she Rice will have surgery on Tuesday to
determine the extent of the knee injury that suffered eight
days ago. Multiple reports he also got some good news
he and rap report of NFL media, So right, Rice
might have avoided a torn ACL. Nevertheless, needs to have
an LCL repair, as a Rapperport characterizes it, rice season
is expected to be over. However, separately, he said that
(18:56):
Rice could miss potentially three months due to the LCL repair,
timeline would not end his season. Rice's diagnosis and prognosists
are happening with eight felony councilurking as well. The prior
goal was to delay resolution of the charges, which arose
from a street racing incident in March until after the season,
accepting any suspension he might face the twenty twenty five.
(19:16):
Now that he's going to be sidelined due to injury,
it makes more sense to result the charges and take
the suspension this year. Like he'll still could lose some
game checks, he would not lose the ability to play
any more games, and the injury.
Speaker 2 (19:26):
Would cause him to miss.
Speaker 3 (19:28):
If you were Rashi Rice, would you be trying to speed.
Speaker 2 (19:30):
Up your trial to get it all taken care of
now that way you go into.
Speaker 3 (19:32):
Next season looking clean slate.
Speaker 4 (19:35):
Heck, yeah, this is the guy who is known to
need to speed both on and off the field. And
look as part of the Ammics, you get the right
to a speedy trial, so this try to rapidly get
this one over so now you can get back to football.
And I'm sure that's something where ge Rice would like
to get back to, and you know Kansas City management
(19:56):
will like to do as well.
Speaker 2 (19:58):
But I don't think this situation is going to.
Speaker 4 (20:00):
Be as cut and dry that quickly, because there's some
issues with this situation that needs to.
Speaker 2 (20:06):
Be iron out. But you have to figure it.
Speaker 4 (20:08):
At some point, there's gonna be a slice suspitchon down
coming down the pike for as well as she Ris.
Speaker 2 (20:14):
Yeah, I would definitely expect that.
Speaker 3 (20:16):
Next story.
Speaker 1 (20:17):
Three four weeks ago today, a new lawsuit against Browns
quarterback Deshaun Watson emerged.
Speaker 2 (20:24):
That case is now over.
Speaker 1 (20:26):
We have resolved our client's claim with Deshaun Watson. Attorney
Tony Buzby said in a statement the settlement is confidential,
the consequences of it are not. The confidentiality clause undoubtedly
means the accuser, who alleged sexual assault and battery in
her filing won't cooperate with the NFL, which makes it
virtually impossible for the league to conduct a meaningful investigation.
What makes it virtually impossible for the league to spend
(20:47):
Watson again under the personal conduct policy, which makes it
virtually impossible for the Browns to use a suspension arising
from those allegations as the basis for avoiding the remaining
guarantees on a five year, two hundred thirty million dollars
contracts to do a total of ninety two million in
twenty twenty five and twenty six combined, and the settlement,
as a practical matter, protects that money and keeps the
Browns tied to him for two more seasons beyond this one.
(21:10):
At least financially, they don't have to play him, they
do have to pay him. Watson was suspended eleven games
in twenty twenty two after the league investigating a ration
of sexual mastonda claims arising from his massage therapy sessions.
His contract insulates the guarantees against any suspension arising from
claims that he disclosed to the team in writing before
his original signed contract and subsequent restructurings.
Speaker 2 (21:32):
Deshaun Watson.
Speaker 3 (21:34):
Has not played well for the Browns this year.
Speaker 1 (21:37):
In fact, it seemed to play even worse in the
game this past week, although to be fair to him,
Jerry Judy did drop a wide open touchdown that would
have helped out a little bit.
Speaker 3 (21:47):
What are you doing if you're the Browns at this point, because.
Speaker 1 (21:49):
Financially with his guaranteed deal, I mean, you really are
tied to him. But there are clamorings for Jamis Winston,
whom many fans think give them a better chance to win.
Speaker 2 (21:58):
Well. Kim Is has already said that he's sticking with
the Shan.
Speaker 4 (22:04):
Now how long he is he going to be beholding
to that, we don't really know. But yeah, things have
not looked a well for the Browns and at some
point they're going to have to make a tough decision because.
Speaker 2 (22:20):
The money is there.
Speaker 4 (22:22):
I mean, you've already guaranteed the money already, so if
you need to make a change, you need to go
ahead and do that.
Speaker 2 (22:28):
Maybe next week, but really quickly.
Speaker 4 (22:30):
I want to he know your point about the settlement,
and for me, it's like, okay, Well, if an allegation
is going to come out and you think the allegation
is that solid, take it to trial, right, But it's.
Speaker 2 (22:41):
Not going to trial. There was a financial agreement.
Speaker 4 (22:45):
It hasn't really been disclosed, and who's to say that
it prevents someone else from coming out saying that there's
another allegation.
Speaker 2 (22:55):
It doesn't it. Does a settlement mean that someone actually
is given.
Speaker 1 (22:59):
No, it doesn't mean guilty, and it's not an admission
of guilt. For me, I think if you've got proof
you didn't do it, then you take it to trial.
If you don't feel like you've got that, you go
with the cash settlement and get him to shut up
and sign a confidentiality agreement.
Speaker 2 (23:12):
But I don't know.
Speaker 1 (23:13):
I legitimately don't know in this situation either way, So
I don't you know. At the end of the day,
both parties agreed to a confidentiality agreement and some sum
of money was exchanged.
Speaker 2 (23:23):
That's all we know. Next story four, This one's for Grant.
Speaker 1 (23:29):
The Bengals fell to one and four with Sunday's overtime
loss to the Ravens, but they were gifted a golden
opportunity to try to win the game. On Baltimore's first
possession of the extra period, Ravens quarterback Lamar Jackson fumbled
a snap and the Bengals recovered on the Ravens thirty
eight yard line. They then ran the ball three times
and got the ball to the thirty five before calling
on kicker Evan McPherson, who missed his field goal try
(23:49):
after a botched snap. The Ravens would win a couple
of plays later, and wide receivers Jamar Chase and t
Higgins took issue with the offensive approach. After the game,
Haigan said he thought the team should have been a
little bit aggressive on a day when Joe Burrow threw
for three hundred and.
Speaker 2 (24:02):
Ninety two yards and Hey.
Speaker 1 (24:03):
Coach Zach Taylor said at a Monday press conference that
he has no issue with the criticism.
Speaker 2 (24:08):
It's fine. It's after the game. It's emotional.
Speaker 1 (24:10):
Those two guys made every single play that came to them.
They want the opportunity to finish the game off. That
bothered me for a second. I have to make decisions
that I'll take full blame for. When they don't go
away and we lose the game. That's part of my job.
It's part of this profession. That's what I love about it,
to be honest with you. Speaking more generally about the
team's poor start, Taylor said he has to put them
in better position to win games. Letting Burroll throws to
throw to Chase Higgins might be a could start on
(24:33):
that front. What do you think of the Cincinnati Bengals
rather disastrous one and four start?
Speaker 2 (24:39):
Are they done? And then two? Should they have been
more aggressive?
Speaker 1 (24:43):
They got the ball to thirty eight guard line Ranter
three times kicked in trying to kick the field goal.
Speaker 3 (24:46):
But botch a snap.
Speaker 4 (24:47):
You know, sometimes you know, coaches get a little too conservative.
They either talked them themselves into situations or rather talk
themselves out of situations.
Speaker 2 (24:58):
But running the ball times in that position.
Speaker 4 (25:01):
Look, I mean, you're paying Joe Burrow a lot of
money and you're not paying him that money to hand
the ball up. Now, if that was the case, me,
you or Grant can actually hand the ball up. But
you're trying to win football games. So put the ball
in the hands of your top playmakers. And is it
over for the Bengals?
Speaker 2 (25:21):
Yeah? I'm gonna say so because we know how the
league is and you need just start ohing four or
start one and four.
Speaker 4 (25:27):
Yeah, you can who they back to Cincinnati because that's
exactly what where the thinkers are gonna be.
Speaker 2 (25:33):
I think it one and four. You have to ask
who are they?
Speaker 4 (25:35):
Yeah, exactly who are they?
Speaker 2 (25:40):
Yeah? I mean, you know it's for me.
Speaker 1 (25:42):
It feels like it feels like they've sort of reached
their limit with this roster and the and they need
to sort of retool around Joe Burrow, build a great
offensive line. They need to go draft a running back
that can that can be a difference maker and uh
and pay case because they're gonna be Lett Higgins walk.
So it feels like it's time to you know, retool
bit around around Joe Burrow and can you know, maybe
(26:03):
try to get this thing back to back to where it.
Speaker 2 (26:06):
Needs to be.
Speaker 1 (26:07):
Next door five, DeVante Adams is not going to be
on The k Adams Show tomorrow. The non related Adams's
cat took to Twitter and said that there's a lot
going on right now with this current situation, and speculation
has run rampant about a trade that DeVante Adams has
asked for teams that we know are interested in Adams
(26:30):
include the Saints playing on Monday Night football in the
New York Jets. There's been speculation about a third team
being out there, and Devanta Adams, of course posted a
picture of Edgar Allan Poe, famous for being a Baltimore
native and resident and person who wrote The Raven Way.
We think about Davante Adams and possibly getting gut in
the next maybe forty eight hours, well.
Speaker 4 (26:50):
I can see that happening because right now, after the
loss of the Broncos, I mean, you know, the Raiders
are in the down with Spiral. They had an opportunity
to pick a quarterback and that quarterback could have been
Bowl Knicks if the Broncos didn't take my twelve.
Speaker 2 (27:05):
But it's totally disaway right now.
Speaker 4 (27:07):
Right now, Anthony Antonio Peers doesn't know who's going to
be his starting quarterback. Is it going to be eight
and O'Connell or is it going to.
Speaker 2 (27:15):
Be Gardner Minshew. And for Devanti Adams, man, he needs
to get the hell out of Dodge. Yeah.
Speaker 4 (27:20):
If there's nothing great that's gonna happen with that Raiders organization,
and I know he has desires of going into the
Pro Football Hall of Fame, and for that to continue
on the right path, he's got to get out of
Las Vegas.
Speaker 3 (27:31):
Yeah, absolutely, and that's that's coming soon.
Speaker 1 (27:34):
I would expect that deal to probably be done this week.
Speaker 2 (27:37):
Next story six exactly.
Speaker 1 (27:40):
This is one I wanted to talk about.
Speaker 2 (27:43):
I guess it was Friday and we didn't get to it.
But I'll get a chance to talk to talk about
it now.
Speaker 1 (27:48):
Packers coach Matt Lafleur has met with suspended wide receiver
Romeo Dobs today and Dobbs is expected to return to
practice this week. Before said I'm not going to get
into the specifics of it, but I think it was productive.
We look forward to getting back. On Wednesday, the Packers
suspended Dubbs one game for conduct detrimental to the team
after he skipped practiced last week because he reportedly was unhappy.
Speaker 3 (28:08):
With his role.
Speaker 2 (28:10):
Laflora said what's done is done. We're moving forward.
Speaker 1 (28:12):
I expect us collectively as a team to continue to
move that way, later calling it a pretty isolated incident, saying, quote,
this is not what happened with him before, and I
don't expect it to happen moving forward. Dubbs has caught
twelve passes FO one hundred and sixty nine yards this season,
and entering Week five, his twenty targets were tied for
third on the team. Laflora said, I think one thing
you totally respect about everybody's Everybody has their own goals
(28:34):
and aspirations and wants. You just got to try to
continue to keep it under what's best for the team,
ultimately our chops to win football games.
Speaker 2 (28:41):
How we do that. Yeah, I'd love everybody.
Speaker 1 (28:43):
To go out there and get every number that they'd
love to hit, but it's all about winning and how
you put each piece together go out there and win games.
Speaker 2 (28:49):
We're fortunately we have a lot of players that.
Speaker 1 (28:50):
Have let confidence him, specifically on the offensive side of
the ball. In regards to trying to get everybody involved,
it's a.
Speaker 2 (28:56):
Good problem to have. How to contenttionally be a problem
if you let it be.
Speaker 1 (28:59):
I think the most part our guys who have done
a really good job just putting against the team. First,
Dubb's basically pouting about not getting the ball enough skip
practice because he says he's not getting the ball enough.
He didn't want to be the dummy guy going into
the game against the Rams. Well, he was the dummy
because he didn't get to play at all. How are
you gonna get your numbers up if you're you're at home.
Have you ever seen a teammate like that puking about
(29:20):
not being the focal point or something when they you know,
not even the star.
Speaker 2 (29:25):
Yeah, I've seen it.
Speaker 4 (29:27):
It happens, and usually that means that someone's making poor
decisions and they're being led by other individuals in the
immediate circle who are outside the framework of the team.
And if you're Romeo Dobbs, here's what great advice I
would have given him, Like we've seen it happen in
training camp with guys, a little.
Speaker 2 (29:46):
Discard to don't hold out, hold.
Speaker 4 (29:49):
In because you can't say I didn't show up the work.
I showed up, right, I just didn't go in. Yeah,
So he put himself in a tough situation.
Speaker 2 (29:56):
I understand it.
Speaker 4 (29:57):
When you're wide receiving your job description is that you
catch footballs and you're not being involved in the offense,
you get upset. But this is not the exact way
to handle the situation.
Speaker 1 (30:08):
Yeah, I just didn't understand that Christian Watson was already
you know questionable for the game. You were gonna be
a focal point. Whether you were the focal point or not.
They were short on receivers.
Speaker 2 (30:17):
They had to roll do on Tavia.
Speaker 1 (30:18):
Wicks out there as a starter so to me and
I get it. They wanted to go to read a
bunch and you utilize that speed. But there were gonna
be opportunities where he's gonna be covered up. You're gonna
be the underneath guy and get a chance to make
something for yourself. So I don't understand why Dubbs shot
himself in the foot.
Speaker 2 (30:32):
Might have to rename him from Doubs.
Speaker 1 (30:33):
To L's based on based on the way you handle
that situation.
Speaker 2 (30:37):
Oh man, you just may have to do that.
Speaker 4 (30:41):
But once the game been I understand being a little
upset at the fact of saying I want to be.
Speaker 2 (30:47):
More involved in the offense.
Speaker 4 (30:50):
And we live in a world of social media, fantasy football,
and family members and friends who keep a track of
what we're doing, and those are the d Andrews who
I would say you have to make sure that you
worry about the most because sometimes, man, they can gash
you up. Yeah, man, bench they should be throwing the
ball to you more. You need to go in there
(31:10):
and demand that you go yeah, yeah, you're right, and
it's like, no, dumb mans. You in a great solid position.
Don't screw that up if you want to, if you
want to make your presence know, go sit.
Speaker 2 (31:23):
Down with the coach, ask them what can you do?
What else can I do to be more involved? Right?
Speaker 4 (31:29):
And then after you have that that conversation and they
still go to the opposite way, Now you can.
Speaker 1 (31:34):
Be able to discount. I went out there, I asked
what I could do. I went out there and produced.
I hit every checkbox along the way. I talked to
my coach and then at that point, if you're still
not getting involved, okay, then you need to have a
second conversation behind your Hammi's a little.
Speaker 2 (31:47):
Tight go today?
Speaker 3 (31:51):
Yes, the DeVante Adams route.
Speaker 2 (31:53):
Yes, you know Stager a stall in right, not a
stall out right. Yeah.
Speaker 1 (31:58):
I'm saying like it's part of the thing. You gotta
play your cards, right. I don't understand when you look
at some of these things. I don't understand some of
the decisions some guys have made. You go back and
you want to look at the decisions guys and they
remember left Bellah Bell holding out and costing themselves millions
of dollars.
Speaker 2 (32:11):
Hey couldn't get it back. It couldn't get it back.
Speaker 1 (32:13):
You said that even the contract you signed with the
Raiders still cost them.
Speaker 2 (32:16):
Like eighteen million when all was said and done.
Speaker 1 (32:18):
It's just what It's one of those things I think, guys,
you know, I think you're right. I think they get
gassed up and get the wrong people in their ear.
They get gassed up by something, and then they wind
up making just horrendous financial decisions for themselves. And said
some su just back and this case is not really
you know, and not really a horrendous decision for dubs
in the financial department, not yet, but the could be
consequences down the last wars going that, it could be
(32:39):
consequences down, Yeah, because you know, guten.
Speaker 4 (32:41):
Cous is going like, look, man, well we don't want
that drama. We got a young quarterback. We have to
move Dobbs. We'll move Dobbs, get someone else in because
you got some talented rob receivers in that packer his offense.
Speaker 2 (32:51):
But this is not the right move.
Speaker 3 (32:52):
For him, absolutely not.
Speaker 1 (32:54):
You appreciate everybody listening for me to lie down here
at these forty pickle bar and grilled ferguson them.
Speaker 2 (32:59):
But brid Broncos Country Tonight rolls off after this.
Speaker 1 (33:03):
Yeah, well he turned it, looked at me and said
I love you, and I turned and said I love
you back
