Speaker 1 (00:00):
Right out the KWA Common Spirit Health Hotline.
Speaker 2 (00:03):
Bring on our guy, Nick Cosmier at Nick Cosmiter on
Twitter covers the Broncos for the Athletic and of course
I'm jealous of his twenty twenty three Colorado Sports Writer
of the Year, but he's much more deserving than I am,
since I don't write anything.
Speaker 3 (00:14):
Nick. How you doing, good fellows?
Speaker 1 (00:16):
How you doing doing pretty well?
Speaker 2 (00:19):
You know, the only streak we have to worry about
now is the Broncos winning streak. The Raiders been snap
chief snap last year, and we got a division rival
and Chargers ahead of us. That looks like an eminently
winnable game. You don't want to overlook it, but it
does look something winnable that maybe perhaps earlier in the
season you may not have thought the same way as
we look at this second quarter of the NFL season
for the Denver Broncos.
Speaker 1 (00:40):
This is starting to shape up kind of nice.
Speaker 3 (00:45):
It is, and it really is shaping up a lot
like how they were winning games during that five game
streak a year ago. They just kind of figured out
this formula without having to go into a one in
five hole in order to do it. And you know,
this is a team right now not turning the ball
over right, one turnover total in the last three games,
no interceptions by Bo Nicks, and then you have a
(01:06):
defense that you know it's taking the ball away some
obviously they had the three interceptions in Sundays went against
the Raiders, but but also playing I think a more
sustainable style that's not just reliant on the takeaways, the
way that they're playing up front and building everything else
off of that. So yeah, I agree with you. You know,
going into this month, when you have three home games
(01:28):
in October sandwiched around a trip to New Orleans against
a Saints team that's going to probably be without Derek
Carr among some other issues that they're dealing with, you
look at it and say, this is a real opportunity
to kind of get through this month, you know, potentially
six and two, five and three before you have to
deal with that back to back with Baltimore and Kansas
(01:49):
City there. In early November, well, Nick.
Speaker 4 (01:51):
Before you came on, Ben and I were having a
discussion about the the Broncos and their depth and grading
the depth and usually I don't like to get into
the grades, but based on what we've seen the injuries
that they've sustained. How would you look at the team
and grade the level of depth so far.
Speaker 3 (02:09):
Well, it's a it's a great question, and I think
one of the things that you you look at is
this was a team last year that that they didn't
have a lot of attrition. They were they were pretty healthy,
and you didn't really have to test that depth, particularly
of course on the offensive line, where they only combined
to miss one start, and that was Mike McGlinchey in
the in the season finale, and so right away you
(02:30):
had that test. Alex Palcewsky, you know, had largely passed
that test in terms of the way that he was
playing at right tackle, that they were playing better in
those three games that he was in there than than
the offensive line had in general early in the season.
And then you get a guy like Justin s Ternat
who has to step in at inside linebacker when you
lose your leading tackler over the last couple of years.
(02:52):
So I would say it's at the very very least
because it is a work in progress, but but a
passing grade at this point. Whenever you have guys get
injured that are frontline starters, and then you have to.
You have to dip into that, you know, you want
to hold water and in some cases they're doing more
than that. And so I think the depth in that
regard has been a positive.
Speaker 1 (03:13):
Now.
Speaker 3 (03:13):
Of course though this week is the biggest test of
that yet when we talk about being down to your
third right tackle with with Alex Palceski not practicing today,
we'll see what the the overall you know, kind of
timeline is for him, Luke Wattenberg being out, So now
you're down to your third right tackle, your second center.
You know, you've had some other some other issues there.
So that will be the real test nick of like
(03:36):
and they get through a game against a pretty physical
Chargers front, you know, when you're down a couple guys
in the offensive line.
Speaker 2 (03:42):
Talking within nick cosm out of the athletic nik, there
is a very pressing issue for the nenver Broncos that
has to get resolved immediately.
Speaker 1 (03:48):
And that is a nickname for Riley Moss.
Speaker 2 (03:51):
I have positive the PS two and ex Moss three sixty.
Do you have any additional nicknames you would like to
throw in the hat?
Speaker 3 (03:58):
You know I did because I was you know that
that Pat himself mentioned that the pulp fiction thing that
was that was kind of going around there. You know,
you got the white the white man can't jump right thing,
which you know, obviously Riley turned on its head by
by leaping the way that he did to catch that ball.
Now that that is a pressing issue that that should
(04:20):
be like, we should have our best people on This
is essentially the way that it's going, you know, Pat,
Pat's kind of leaving it up to the Broncos country.
I need to I need to go through and scan
some of these posts because I'm sure there's there's always
good ideas among Internet minds. I just I haven't come
across from yet.
Speaker 2 (04:36):
Yeah, I was worried I was never going to be
able to top Casa Bonito. But I think I think
we're I think we're getting close there. We'll see, we'll
figure this one out. We'll put our we'll put our
best people on it, which does not obviously include me.
Speaker 3 (04:48):
Norm Norm myself, I am not a like, not in
the creative writing business as much. But you know, I
think the defense as a whole too. Like that, that's
another thing of you know again, it's it is five
games in and you don't want to get out in
front of it. But I just think some of their
markers that they have are are sustainable to where you
(05:08):
say this, this is gonna be a unit that is
good all year long. And look they're they're blissing at
a rate right now that is the highest in the league.
You can't do that if you're if your foundational pieces
aren't doing what they're supposed to do, you have to
be able to cover one on one. That's why Moss's
kind of elevation into the way that he's playing has
been such a such a big deal because there's nothing
that teams can just you know, easily pick on like
(05:31):
there might have been at certain times last year. So
I just I just think this is a group that's
going to continue to play well. You see that, You
see that the depths in the pass rush, like Nick Bonito,
it's it's like people kind of forgetting about him and
he's he's playing the way that he has. Jonah Ellis,
you know, playing as well as any rookie you know
pass rusher right now. So I just think it's a
(05:52):
group that you look, you look at it and say
that this this can keep going really all year.
Speaker 1 (05:58):
So we haven't seen a lot of Marvin Mahams.
Speaker 4 (06:01):
And dating back to last year, we were we were
told that, hey, listen, you know there's going to be
the concertive effort to get mems involved.
Speaker 1 (06:08):
And that was last year.
Speaker 4 (06:09):
So coming into this year, I thought personally things were
going to change. We haven't really seen that. What do
you think is the reason why we're not seeing more
of Marvin Maham's speed utilized in this Broncos offense?
Speaker 3 (06:23):
Yeah, I think part of it is is of them.
Sean has said this in a in a as an
answer to a number of things, the fact that you're
thirty first and third down conversion rate, you really just
aren't getting enough opportunities to get to some of the
things that you want to get to, and so I
think that's part of it. I do think they kind
of took a small step forward on Sunday in terms
(06:46):
of you know, getting him, getting him on the jet
sweep in a way that allowed him to use his speed.
You know, you got him, you got him in space
on the quick draw, the quick the quick out in
the flat where he gained seven yards on what became
a touchdown touchdown drive. A lot of a lot of
things they're trying to do to sort of emulate what
he can do in the open field when he's when
(07:07):
he's on special teams, because it continues to be one
of the most dynamic returners.
Speaker 2 (07:11):
In the league.
Speaker 3 (07:12):
So it's for them figuring out ways to get him
in those similar situations. Because look, we might have seen
Jerry Judy leave and say, oh, that's that that guy
Marvin Mims is gonna step into that role. He's not
the same player, he doesn't have the same route tree,
So it's a matter of finding those things for him.
And part of that is you just have to continue
to get some more plays. But I like there was
(07:32):
a couple of times where you saw Marvin Mims and
Troy Franklin on the field at the same time. Troy
Franklin's gotten a little bit more burned over the last
couple of weeks, you know, Like I said, Mims had
a couple of plays on Sunday, so you hope that
that was sort of a sign of things to come.
But they're they're kind of slowly building toward more of
that because, yeah, you get those two guys on the
same field. We talked a lot about Troy Franklin's drop
(07:54):
part of that other play, Marvin Mims was wide open
in the middle of the field, like he could have
You could have thrown to him for about a ten
yard pass. He just beats the safety and he could
have he could have gone all the way. So get
them on the field together, let him put some stress
on defenses and see what you can do.
Speaker 1 (08:09):
Totally.
Speaker 2 (08:09):
Nick Cosmider of the Athletic Nick, you know Vance Joseph
and the way that this defense is performing, it's it's
getting Vance some more. Ronnie's absolutely a guy who's probably
going to get h head coach interviews, having prior experience
this offseason. If he were to leave and get a
head coaching job. It puts the Broncos in line for
two third round compensatory picks. But which is the which
(08:30):
is the better have at this point having Vance back
and what he's been able to do or two extra
third round draft picks.
Speaker 3 (08:36):
Yeah, that's I mean, it's it's a great question. I
think right now, the continuity that they have on that
side of the ball, and you know, obviously they they
came in last year and I think Vance really wanted
to make things comfortable for the players, right, So they're
they're using some of the same terminology that they had
used under you know, Giro Everro, which was a lot
of the same Dick Fangio terminology. But but they they
(08:59):
kind of about how you know, less than halfway through
the year, just kind of scraped that and really just
got back to doing it the way you know that
Vance has And now that you have that continuity, that
comfortability with what he's calling, you know, you would want
you would want some of that back that they obviously
think they have some talented coaches on this defensive staff,
whether it's Jim Leonard, Jamar Cain, some up and coming
(09:20):
young coaches you know that you could maybe feel comfortable
with in a promotion and that kind of uh scenario
that you that you're talking about, because I certainly do
think that Vance is putting himself in position already to
have to have another look at it. But but it's
so at the same it's it's sort of like a
good problem to have, is kind of the way that
you would you would look at it. Because we know
(09:40):
this team has had a lack of draft capital. That's
been one of the issues with the roster over the
last you know, a couple of seasons, they're gonna they're
gonna be back to a full cupboard or pretty close
to it this uh, this offseason, and so you know,
anything you can do to continue to add to that
the way that they're drafting would be would be a
bonus as well. But I would be in the camp of, man,
if you can, if you can run this back again,
(10:01):
the way that they're playing, the way that they got
some young players stepping into bigger roles like that would
be that'd be a pretty good scenario going into twenty
twenty five.
Speaker 1 (10:09):
You know, Nick, with.
Speaker 4 (10:10):
Everything that you said and the possibility of Vans getting
another opportunity to interview for a head coach. I mean,
I personally feel as though the conversation hasn't really been
about Vance and what he's done.
Speaker 3 (10:23):
Now.
Speaker 4 (10:23):
People have talked about individual Roley Moss, Ps two, Jonah Ellers,
Zach Allen, but I don't feel as though the enough
credit here locally has been given to Vance.
Speaker 1 (10:35):
Joseph, do you feel the same way, And if you do,
why do you think that's the case.
Speaker 3 (10:39):
Yeah, it's it's kind of like you're pulling out my
story that I have coming out later this year, Because
I absolutely I absolutely agree with you are you guys
are on it. No. One of the things that's really interesting.
I was talking to Zach Allen after the game on
Sunday and he said that the thing that Vance has
done so well for this group is they sort of
came in with this this mission to make sure that
(11:01):
they were giving you know, their their pass rushers, their
interior end and outside guys, being so mindful of giving
these guys one on one opportunities as frequently as they can.
And Zach said, look, that's as a as a pass rusher,
as a defensive lineman, that's all we can ask for
is getting those chances because we we feel like one
on one we can win most times. And so you
(11:23):
have a team that's blitzing at the highest rate and
doing it in ways where you are you're really preying
on vulnerabilities of the opponent to give those one on
one matchups to guys like Zach Allen. It's it all.
It's all kind of a wholesale thing, right because in
order for that to still work, you had to upgrade
the talent. You had to get a guy like John
Franklin Myers, who teams can't just you know, not pay
(11:45):
attention to. So they've they've done those things where it's
kind of a holistic approach, But its Advance who's been
pressing these buttons, who's been able to create these matchups,
who kind of listens to his players about, you know,
the way that they wanted to play being more one
gap driven up front this year, all those kinds of
things I think come into play and talk about, you know,
not only how he's calling plays on Sunday, but how
(12:07):
he and his staff have worked to understand what fits
best for the group of players that they have, And
I just think he's done a good job bringing all
that together.
Speaker 2 (12:16):
Talking with Cosmoity the athletic Nick want to switch gears
a little bit, talk about the Denver Nuggets and what
you've seen so far. There the addition of Wes Russell
Westbrook and you know what that brings to this team.
I've been lobbying. I know Christian brawn is penciled in
is the uh, you know, the starting two. But I've
been lobbying much like Kenneth far Reid, He's an energy
guy who probably is at his best coming off the bench,
(12:36):
and maybe there are situations where you could have Westbrook
start Murray at the two, strawther Or at the two,
and then of course we've had seen this sort of
move from Porter where he's put on some weight and
is experimenting a little bit at the four in addition
to play in the three. What what have you seen
so far with the new look Nuggets and what do
you really expect this team to look like when we
get to open the season.
Speaker 3 (12:57):
Yeah, the Porter thing is like really interesting to me
because I would kind of, you know, not not necessarily
as plugged in now to to sort of what they're
doing in their in their offseason. So when they came
back around Media Day and and then was talking to
some people that were over there just about what he's done,
that was kind of that was kind of surprising to me.
And I and I think the way that they when
(13:18):
when they're able to run Aaron Gordon as as the
as kind of the backup five that they they've experimented
more with some of those lineups for the last couple
of years. Uh, that that to me is is a
winning formula. If you have Porter being able to play
the four and being able to hang defensively at that
position enough to where you can get his spacing and
then you then you can you know, that can kind
of trickle down you get more shooters on the floor.
(13:41):
So I think that'll be an interesting development. I'm just
really eager to see because You're right, there's there's different
combinations that they're going to be able to do in
that backcourt. And that's why this this preseason is is
kind of important for them. And then early in the
season of you know, how how do these combinations work
around when we bring Russell Westbrook in? You know, what,
what kind of role can we put Julian's author in?
You know, can he be good enough defensively in order
(14:03):
to potentially be that starting two for you So it's
it's a pretty fascinating deal when you when you've lost
two guys back to back years that were pretty important
parts of that of that backcourt in Bruce Brown and KCP,
and now you've got guys that are stepping into those
new roles. It's going to be really interesting to see
how it all pans out.
Speaker 1 (14:24):
The biggest concern for me is the bench.
Speaker 4 (14:27):
I mean because over the past couple of years, obviously
the starting five, you know, what you're gonna get out
of those guys. But once Jamal comes off the floor,
Nicola Joki comes off the floor, and Christian Brown is
going from being on that second unit and the thought
is inserting him in the starting unit. How's that that
that second unit going to look in Kim made sustain
(14:47):
the longevity of the season.
Speaker 3 (14:50):
Yeah, And I think that's a big part of what
they're hoping for with with Russell Westbrook is is to
just be a little bit more attacking with that with
that second unit. Going back to when I covered the team,
the thing that Malone always really wants his second unit
to be is sort of pestering defensively and one that
really gets out and runs in transition. Because it's not
(15:10):
like they never play that way when Nikola Jokic is
out there, but they're much more of a, you know,
just a surgical half court team when when he's on
the court, because that's what he does. He can he
can pick you apart in that way when they are
a second unit. They want to be able to win
with defense and then get out and push the tempo.
And that's that's a big part of why they brought
Russell Westbrook in here. But that being said, even if
(15:31):
they play that way, you still have to have the shooting,
and you know you're you're if you're bringing Christian Brown
into the starting lineup, you know that that opens up
an opportunity in the backcourt to have somebody who can
shoot a little bit more like That's why I think
Strawther on the second unit being you know, getting some
opportunity to handle the ball next to Jamal Murray, Russell Westbrook,
but also like having him out there as a guy
(15:52):
that can stretch the floor a little bit, like that's
that's the guy that they have a lot kind of
riding on to to be that to be that answer,
because yeah, the bench obviously toward the end of last
season and certainly in the playoffs, it wasn't enough. And
now you're you're depending more on some of these some
of these other guys you know, to come through. So
it's a it's a huge question mark. I'm with you, Nick,
(16:12):
like that, that's that's the part that we're gonna need
to see pretty early on.
Speaker 2 (16:16):
Nick Cosmiter of the Athletic Always appreciate the time, brother,
look forward to seeing you out there on Sunday.
Speaker 3 (16:21):
Absolutely, So let's take care of Thanks for what lot
all right.
Speaker 1 (16:23):
You can find him at nic Cosmiter on Twitter.
Speaker 2 (16:26):
UH does a great job covering the Denver Broncos for
the Athletic and obviously h was the twenty twenty three
Colorado Sports Rider of the Year.
Speaker 1 (16:32):
I always mentioned that because you know, I love when
people get awards.
Speaker 4 (16:35):
To be able to mention him, that was great, and
you know, listening him to respond to some of our questions,
it's almost as though you and I were looking over
his shoulders as far.
Speaker 1 (16:44):
As going to prepare. Yeah, I can't wait to see
his article later this week.
Speaker 2 (16:48):
We may have ghost written who knows, I would tell
you UH five six six text line. You guys got anything,
We got ANFL six pack and we come back Broncos
Country Tonight. Thanks to Nick Cosmeier for joining us in
(17:18):
the last segment. You miss any of that, you can
go to Broncos Country Night, Dot comp Slation podcast or
Refuge podcast, Apple iTunes, Spotify, totally free and awesome my
Heart Radio app where you can also get to Take
It for Granted podcast as well.
Speaker 1 (17:30):
And now it's time for the NFL six pack. It's
time for the NFL six pad.
Speaker 4 (17:35):
I'm going to train the last year insight and insight
information you can't find anywhere else.
Speaker 3 (17:41):
No.
Speaker 1 (17:41):
Six the top six NFL headlines.
Speaker 2 (17:46):
One Justin Herbert remains limited in practice, but his ankle
is quote feeling better. Justin Herbert has not had a
full practice in September thirteenth. Charger return to practice today
after an off week, and Herbert's right ankle continues to
limit him star quarterback. Those said an ankle is feeling better,
Herbert said via video from Ryan to paul A FanDuel
(18:06):
Or he gotten better. As long as we're doing that,
we're in the right position. Does feel better, made it
through the game, and having the bye week has definitely helped.
It's just continue to get that inflammation down. Herbert said
he would continue to wear the ankle brace he has
worn since his injury, saying quote, I would assume I
wore in practice, and I think it's just one of
those things You're going to wear it till you don't
need it anymore. I don't envision that being this week.
Herbert twice has misspractice and has had five limited practices,
(18:28):
including today, since his injury in Week two against the Panthers.
He aggravated in the third quarter against the Steelers in
Week three. Did not return of that game, but did
play Week four despite a questionable designation. Outside linebacker Joey
both said as a hip did not practice. He was
injured in Week three, which kept him out of the
Week four lost to the Chiefs. Kicker Cameron Dicker's got
an illness, running back Gus Edward's ankle, cornerback Christian Fulton knee,
(18:50):
safety Derwin James personal defensive back to the end Leonard hamstring.
Cornerback just Here Taylor Fibrilla also set on Wednesday session.
Offensive tackle Joe Alt has a knee issue. Linebacker Junior
Colson hamstring. Linebacker Dyalen Henry's shoulder, Tynan Hayden Hurst achilles.
Outside linebacker Khalil Meck got a rest day. Linebacker Denzel
perryman as shoulder, a corner of Sante Samuel Junior's shoulder,
(19:11):
an offensive tackule Ray Shawn Slater with a peck. We're limited, man.
That Chargers injury report is brutal. Just to even say I.
Speaker 4 (19:20):
Thought you were gonna follow that up? Is it's brought
to you by you.
Speaker 1 (19:24):
Know, I mean, look common spiritalf.
Speaker 4 (19:28):
Yeah, that's what I thought you were gonna say. But listen,
this is the NFL. Every game is tough. It's not
a single team that's out there right now that's not
dealing with bumps and bruises. You just have to find
a way to push through them. And it's unfortunate that
the Chargers are going through these situations.
Speaker 1 (19:45):
But hey, Darren, the schedule, so you play who you play?
Speaker 2 (19:48):
Two from the quarterback that's the Broncos face this week
and Justin Herbert dealing with obviously his ankle issue to
the quarterback.
Speaker 1 (19:56):
They'll be facing on Thursday night. After that game, Spencer Rattler.
Speaker 2 (20:01):
The Saints will start rookie Spencer Wrastler at quarter on
Sunday against the Bucks.
Speaker 1 (20:05):
Dennis Allen announced Spencer.
Speaker 2 (20:07):
Will be a quarterback for this game. He said, by
the Saints website talk a lot about it. What we
felt was the best thing for us, gave us the
best chance to win.
Speaker 1 (20:14):
That was a decision we made.
Speaker 2 (20:15):
We're excited about him getting an opportunity to go out
there and let him go play see what he could do.
Starter Derek Carr injured his oblique late Monday night's loss
to the Chiefs. In rapport of NFL media reports, Car
has a tear in the Elite Bill and said the
Saints don't expect to place Car on the ir and
that he will return win healthy. Allen has only started
one rookie quarterback previously, instance as a head coach with
the Raiders and the Saints, Derek Carr. He said smiling
(20:39):
Jay Hayner replaced Car late in Monday's loss to the Chiefs,
but the Saints list Han and Ratler as Code number twos.
Ratler was the emergency third quarterback on Monday. In the preseason,
Ratler went twenty of thirty eight two hundred two yards
with a touchdown no interceptions.
Speaker 1 (20:51):
Also ran for twenty six in a touchdown. As yet
to play in the regular.
Speaker 2 (20:54):
Season, Alan said the team will reevaluate the quarterback position
after this week, calling the decision week to week until
Car returns. Typically it is a three week injury, meaning
that missing this Sunday and missing Thursday Night football.
Speaker 1 (21:06):
Probably likely for Derek Carr.
Speaker 2 (21:08):
Ratler will become the fifth rookie quarterback to start this season,
with Drake May scheduled to start for the Patriots this week.
Jane Daniels, Bonis Kayla Williams have all started as well
are the Broncos having this thing shape up nice with
an injury to Herbert and now a rat on a
Thursday night.
Speaker 1 (21:24):
Yeah, it seems that way.
Speaker 4 (21:26):
And it's wild that the teams that the Broncos are
playing against they're undergoing some transformation on either side of
the ball due to injuries.
Speaker 1 (21:36):
But you know how this is gonna work out.
Speaker 4 (21:38):
So let's just say the Broncos win the next three games,
and you know there's gonna be some Debbie down and
that's gonna toss it out there. Well, those teams were injured,
and it's like, oho freaking cares. You just play who's
on your ross and you just keep your fingers crossed
you that the Broncos can get to the bye week
without sustaining any major injury themselves. Listen, maybe this is
(22:02):
the football gods finally blessing the Broncos after so many years.
Speaker 2 (22:06):
I agree with you on results. You can't sit there
with the result and say, well, they were hurt. But
in the process of you know, is what we're doing sustainable.
Speaker 1 (22:13):
I always kind of have an eye on that, So
we'll see.
Speaker 2 (22:16):
I think this this second quarter, like I said, of
the season, is shaping up nicely. To that Tom Brady's
deal to purchase a piece of the Raiders is on
the agenda for the next week's ownership meetings. A boy
who apparently has everything is about to get something else.
Former NFL quarterback Tom Brady's effort to buy a piece
of the Raiders is on the agenda for next week's
ownership meeting, according to Ben Fisher of the Sports Business Journals.
(22:38):
Fisher notes he'll such measures rarely land on the agenda
abbsent a high degree of confidence that they'll secure the
requisite number of votes for approval. Brady needs twenty four votes,
only takes nine owners to kill the deal, and given
the league's placement of significant restrictions on his ability to
meet with teams and attend practices prior to Fox broadcast,
it's obvious that more than a few owners have concerns
(22:59):
about a conflict of the trists associated with him owning
party one team and covering them all. Conflict of interest
is pretty clear. Brady can't do his best job for
Fox while also fulfilling his duties to the Raiders to
the best of visibility, Although frankly, Brady shouldn't want to
do both. At least nine owners should politely but decisively
keep it from happening, is an opinion shared by Mike
Florio of for Football Talk. What do you think about
(23:22):
Tom Brady owning a percentage of the Raiders and we
four against us?
Speaker 1 (23:25):
Do we care? And what have you thought about Tom
Brady the broadcaster?
Speaker 3 (23:29):
Thus far?
Speaker 4 (23:30):
All I thought with the latter First, I really enjoyed
Tom Brady as a broadcaster. Obviously, if you listen to
certain broadcasters over the years, things are going to sound
a little different because it is Tom Brady.
Speaker 1 (23:41):
But I like his definitely approach to the game.
Speaker 4 (23:44):
As far as him owning the Raiders just another investment
for Tom, and Tom has done great with investments. But
looking at how the Raiders are performing right now, the
first question comes in.
Speaker 1 (23:55):
If Tom was allowed to.
Speaker 4 (23:57):
Be an owner, how much input would he have away
in some of the team's daily operations even.
Speaker 1 (24:03):
Though he's an owner. I would like to think he's not.
He's only going to be a minority owner, so he's.
Speaker 4 (24:08):
Not gonna have a major input or insight on what's
going on with the team.
Speaker 2 (24:14):
Well, I mean to me, it should be a foregone conclusion.
Just go ahead and officially make him an owner. He's
owned the Raiders for two decades. When I get a
financial incentive now or Sunday schedule will feature of the
first meeting between the Commander's quarterback Jadon Daniels and his
fellow Heisman Trophy winner Lamar Jackson. Comparisons between the two
(24:34):
players have been a bit inevitable leading up to the game.
Daniels would prefer not to hear himself compared to Raven's quarterback. However,
Daniel said today he's a fan of good quarterback play
and a fan of the reigning NFL MVP, but he's
more concerned with building his own career than he is
with how people think he measures up to Lamar Jackson,
Like I don't like when people try to compare me
to Lamar via John Kaim of ESPN, We're two different players.
Speaker 1 (24:56):
I would to be known as Jaydon Daniels and not.
Speaker 2 (24:58):
The next such and such, and for me, go out there,
try to be unique, try to be different for everybody.
I appreciate what they do because you can always learn
from other quarterbacks in the league. I'm not closed minded.
Daniels has done a good job of building a name
for himself through the first five weeks of an NFL
career going. Solving the Ravens and moving the Commanders to
five and one would only help that cause what do
you think of Jade and Daniels saying I love Lamar Jackson,
(25:19):
but they'll compare.
Speaker 3 (25:19):
Me to him.
Speaker 4 (25:20):
I like the idea because in the game of sports,
there's always a comparison like who does this guy remind
me of? And it makes it really difficult because in
some cases been it could be a pro, but sometimes
it ends up being a con for that particular player
because they can never really get over that hump because
of the level of comparison. Just think about the todm
(25:44):
brady being called the goat, Patrick Mahons be called the
baby goat. There's a lot of pressure in the league.
You just adding more pressure. But Jade Dames in his
own right is one hell of a talent. But I'm
looking forward to watching that game this weekend.
Speaker 1 (25:57):
Yeah, that's one of the ones I'm you know.
Speaker 2 (25:59):
I mean, obviously I'm gonna wat the Broncers in trouble
will be right there, but I'll be having my eye.
I'll have I might have I might have one of
those what's that guy with the lazy. I might have
the one eye drifting over, drifting over.
Speaker 1 (26:08):
It's the screen to take a look at that one.
Speaker 2 (26:10):
Fi Siriani, praising Devin White, sank you simply couldn't earn
playing time in Philly.
Speaker 1 (26:16):
On Tuesday, the Eagles released linebacker Devin White.
Speaker 2 (26:18):
On Today, coach Nick Sirianni was asked various questions about
the move during his midweek press conference. As to the
inability of White to find a role in that defense
came down to other players being better options. Nick Sirianni said,
it quote goes back to Nikobe Dean and Zach Baond
getting that spot, winning that spot.
Speaker 1 (26:35):
Like I said, it's not easy situation.
Speaker 2 (26:36):
Can't say enough good things about Devin how he handled
a really difficult situation.
Speaker 1 (26:40):
White buried on the depth chart.
Speaker 2 (26:41):
The Eagles just decided to move on, Siriatta said, some
guys have roles on special teams and just in this
particular case is where we were and how it played out.
White would have been entitled to receive the full balance
of his salary as termination pay.
Speaker 1 (26:54):
The Eagles and White reportedly agreed.
Speaker 2 (26:56):
He'd be released now, which kept him away from going
through waivers, while also including terms provide the Eagles with
the little financial savings that could be. White agreed to
give the Eagles an offset for anything he earns with
this new team.
Speaker 1 (27:07):
Termination pay typically allows players to double.
Speaker 2 (27:09):
Dim Sarrijani praise White is a really great pro who
handled everything with class. White was the fifth overall pick
on the twenty nineteen draft played a key role in
Tampa's twenty twenty Super Bowl championship team. Things sort of
fell off from after that, and he exited Tampa and
free agency. For four weeks with the Eagles, White had
been inactive for every game. He is now a free
agent and they'd be able to sign with any team.
(27:30):
I get a lot of questions about Devin White possibly
coming here.
Speaker 1 (27:34):
I don't know that they're looking.
Speaker 2 (27:35):
That direction, especially with how well Barton sternad Lavelle Bailey
those guys have played.
Speaker 1 (27:41):
But I'm not opposed.
Speaker 4 (27:42):
Well, you're always looking to upgrade your roster at every
time because if the Broncos keep on this trend, and
we know right now the strongest side of the ball
for the Broncos.
Speaker 1 (27:53):
Is their defensive side of the ball.
Speaker 4 (27:55):
So if you can add players who are veteran players
who have playoff Super BOWLD experience. Uh why not. Obviously
you have to look for open window when there's a
spot where you can kind of elevate a guy or
add a guy to the practice squad. But looking at
the egles for just a second, I mean, they were
not just that hot at the linebacker position where they
can actually do this. But obviously, if you're there from
(28:17):
their standpoint, they felt as though they were happy with
their younger players.
Speaker 1 (28:20):
But if a Devin White end up in the Broncos uniform,
I wouldn't be mad at it.
Speaker 2 (28:24):
I'm just saying I'm not mad at it. I you know,
bring him in and give him a shot. But I mean,
you got kwant Alexander and Zach Cunningham. You already got
on the practice squad.
Speaker 1 (28:31):
And Devin White just.
Speaker 2 (28:32):
Hasn't been the same player since a super Bow. Mean
he was when he came in the league. He was
red hot as a linebacker. You know, a three sixty
line I do it all going away from the ball,
sideline to sideline, go with Downhill not being the same.
Speaker 4 (28:41):
Guys, But once again, looking at vance Joseph defense, one
of the higher pressure rates in the league.
Speaker 1 (28:48):
Can you be a downhill. Guy there you're going. You
know he certainly would added an athletic confusion if nothing else.
I'm just saying six.
Speaker 2 (28:57):
Titans quarterback Will Lewis will not need any surge on
his right shoulder after the season.
Speaker 1 (29:01):
The injury is not as bad as initially feared.
Speaker 2 (29:04):
Levi was dealing with an ac sprain. He was injured
in the September thirtieth game against the Dolphins. Coach Brian
Callahan said Lewis will retain his starting job when healthy
enough to play.
Speaker 1 (29:12):
Lewis is hoping that's this week. Titans played the Colts
on Sunday.
Speaker 2 (29:16):
Lemis, via video from eighty Z Sports, said I'm going
to push myself to play whatever state I'm in. You
go hard to keep myself out, but I got to
be smart to see how I feel. Not put myself
for my team in jeopardy, but I'm fighting like hell
to get out there. Titans signed former Bronco Trevor Simeon
today that practice squad is an emergency third option with
Levis injured and Mason Rudolph the only other quarterback on
(29:36):
the roster. Lewis was a full participant in today's practice.
Safety Jabel Adams wide receiver Treylon Burke's defensive Linemccialwaday Coleman
didn't practice. Wide receiver DeAndre Hopkins, de Benser, tackle, Jeff Simmons,
and corner of the Jerius Sneed were limited, but two
of those were rest days. What do we think about
Trevor Simeon still getting work in this league? You might
be headed for the Hustle Hall of Fame we talk
(29:58):
about all the time. But will Levis if he's not
able to go? Trevor Simmons one bad Mason Rudolph play away.
Speaker 4 (30:05):
Listen, man, here's where we've known about Trevor Simon. I mean,
he was kind of like Jason garretton to make him anyway,
and he was one of those guys that he may
not be a starting caliber guy, but he can come
in and spot duty and actually do well for the team.
Speaker 1 (30:20):
I mean, look at Joe Flacco right now, I'm going Flaco.
Speaker 4 (30:23):
So Trevis Simmons, he's definitely going to come in if
he needs to, and he's gonna do all the right
things as a backup quarterback. That gives you a lot
of excitement, like, yes, maybe we can start him, but no,
you can't.
Speaker 1 (30:36):
Like, does Trevor Simbions still have the Skittles jacket? I
don't know.
Speaker 2 (30:41):
That's something we need to find out. The public needs
to know if that Skittle's jacket still exists. Skittles, you
remember the one You remember talking about that Jackson the
skittle dispenser in there.
Speaker 1 (30:50):
Yeah, the world needs stuff.
Speaker 2 (30:52):
But Trevor Simbion was like a few days away from
taking an insurance job with Garret Kobe.
Speaker 1 (30:55):
I was like, not at a cup play football for
me and look at him now. Listen, man, the dude's
been in the you a decade. That's how it happened.
What do you call what were you saying before you
call it? What hall of fame? The hustle Hall of fame? Okay,
So like Chase Daniel.
Speaker 4 (31:08):
There's a possibility that Trevis Simmons could the throne Chase Daniel,
But Chase Daniels holding down that number one spot.
Speaker 1 (31:15):
Chase Daniels got the career. He's peering over the top
of the career, got that corner, young fellow.
Speaker 2 (31:21):
Yes, the hustle Hall of Fame, that's the the NFL
six pack. We always enjoy doing that. Shout out to
Brian uh Yes, BK is very special. I will say that, uh,
just for you, Brian, appreciate you listening. We had quite
a few texts coming in. Uh, several people love the
PS two and x Moss three sixty stuff. So we'll see,
(31:41):
we'll see if that little stick. Uh, we'll try to
get it the seven. One night earlier, it was talking
about the fullbacks.
Speaker 1 (31:47):
Mouse Johnston was the name. I was drawing a blank
on and forgot. That's absolutely grateful.
Speaker 4 (31:52):
He's another one who will play full back like but
he was still exception to play for the Cowboys.
Speaker 1 (31:57):
Jay Novaze.
Speaker 2 (31:58):
Oh yeah, no, Check played tight end though he played
both right. Yeah, he was like I remember it was
a tight end, but I do remember Hi playing full
back two.
Speaker 1 (32:05):
Yeah.
Speaker 4 (32:05):
He was like Jim Jensen who played for the boy
the Miami Dolphins back in the day, who played every
single position. Like if you talk about the true utility
man in the NFL, Jim Jensen was that guy.
Speaker 3 (32:17):
Yeah.
Speaker 2 (32:18):
Novacheck was interesting because he was like he had the height,
but he was rail thinn for a tight end he was.
He was like six or four, like two thirty. Yeah,
it was just excuse me. It's one of those things
where I was you, j Novachick, And you look at
that Cowboys line and you look even smaller by comparison,
because you had guys like Adams and Larry Allen and
(32:41):
all those just huge bodies out on that line. And
then you get poor Novacheck there at they had had
the right height for it, but man, he looked like
a It looks like a picket, like a picket fence.
Speaker 4 (32:51):
But the one thing about Jay Novichick and Luce Johnson,
they they were utilized well within that Cowboys offense.
Speaker 1 (32:58):
And that's why I always go back to it.
Speaker 4 (33:00):
You may have guys who may be viewed as being limited,
but if you use them based on their skill set,
you can squeeze all the juice.
Speaker 2 (33:08):
Did no check play before he got to Dallas real quick.
I don't know Saint Louis and Phoenix before he got
to Dallas.
Speaker 1 (33:15):
I know he's happy about that.
Speaker 2 (33:16):
Oh, he is happy about that. We're happy about you
guys joining this Broncos. Country to Night rolls on after
this
