Speaker 1 (00:00):
He's Nick Ferguson, I'm Brandon Christol and for Benjamin Albright.
We're keeping our eyes on plenty of things tonight. You
get Monday at football, the Bills driving to try to
regain the lead. They trail ten to seven in New York.
Also in New York, at last checked, the Yanks were
up three to nothing on the Guardians. When you double
checked that, and another New York team, they're actually here
at Ball Arena. Puck just dropped a few seconds ago.
Actually on Avs and Islanders. As Colorado is zero to two.
(00:25):
It's like they almost don't realize that the preseason is
over and they're into the regular season with an eight
to four loss. And then it was at five to two,
five three the other night, but eight Ford open the
season in Vegas and losing the other night at home
to Columbus. So hopefully the Abs will get on track tonight.
But we are talking all things Broncos with you right now. So, Nick,
I saw during the break you were going through some plays.
Is that because something jumped out to you. I do
(00:48):
want to get into some returns to New Orleans here
in a second.
Speaker 2 (00:51):
But but what do you got going.
Speaker 1 (00:52):
On that you've been dialing up there on the old
rewind watch the replay app if you will.
Speaker 3 (00:58):
Well, just kind of watching some plays from Sunday on
bow Nicks and just kind of just verifying what I'm
seeing as far as the development of the young quarterback
and the ability just kind of escape the pocket. Constantly
we hear that term about whether it's a veteran quarterback
or a rookie quarterback having the ability to step up
(01:20):
and climb the pocket, and we've seen moments like that
with Bo being able to do that. But it's just
going back and watching Bou in his pocket presence, being
able to sense when that extra defender is coming either
up the middle to flush him outside, or that defenders
coming from either the right side or the left side,
(01:41):
and still have enough presence of mind to tuck his
shoulder and being able to kind of pirouette out to
give himself an opportunity. Usually when we've seen quarterbacks do
this before. Russell has done it before and other quarterbacks,
so it's nothing new, but kind of losing ground to
gain ground, but still having his eyes down the fe
And this is where I would like to see the
(02:02):
offense kind of mature to a point where you know
your quarterback is very mobile and at times he's gonna
break the pocket, he's gonna break contain Your route may
be a twelve yard outside comeback, but knowing that when
you started to come back, you notice that the quarterback
is scrambling. Try to move, try to create space, try
(02:23):
to flash your number, try to get open. And I
don't see that a lot with this receiving corps understanding,
once again, you have a quarterback who possessed the same
skill set as a guy who was quarterbacking here last
year and Russell Wilson, So try to allow that to
play to your benefit and his benefit as well.
Speaker 1 (02:43):
I'm curious we saw Courtland Sutton certainly in terms of
the touchdown catches, and yesterday's was as good as we've
seen in recent memory. But it's funny watching the Bills
on a Monday night game. You remember the catch you
made last year as Russ scramble around, hucked it up
a bit of a prayer, and Courtland makes as good
as toe tap falling out of bounds catch as we've
ever seen. But Russ has had a number of receivers
(03:06):
going back to those Doug Baldwin days, and certainly guys
like DK and Tyler Lockett of late and we're gonna
keep coming back to it, but perhaps the best quarterback
that we've seen do everything but when you start scrambling,
the relationship that Patrick Mahomes and Travis Kelsey have of
being able and a lot of it has to do
with the IQ of the of the pass catcher as well,
(03:26):
but to find the holes in the defense, whether they're
zone or man, find enough room. Know that your quarterback
has and obviously Patrick's arm talent is great above Bow's,
but they're gonna where they want to get the ball
to and where you need to find the soft spots
in the defense. So Courtland and Russ developed that kind
of over two years. It clearly was better last year
just because of the production. Even if that's not what
(03:48):
Sean wanted to be running. We understand that you have
to think that Troy Franklin more than anyone should have
that with bow Nicks, just from their time on the
field together. I understand Oregon plenty of stuff was just
short and and on time. You don't complete seventy seven
percent of your passes because you're scrambling. Great, but that
instinctive relationship should be there, and we did see.
Speaker 2 (04:08):
Troy Franklin even talked about in his post.
Speaker 1 (04:10):
Game like, oh, I played more than I'd maybe planned on,
and I think it's a byproduct of hey, catch the
damn football and you are going to play because I think,
and hey, I'll ask you as somebody who spent some
time over there. The sense I get talking to people
that I feel like are in the know is that
they have a higher opinion of Troy Franklin's ability as
a receiver than Marvin Mems, even if both their speed
(04:31):
is similar, that Troy's total package as a wide receiver
is valued slightly higher.
Speaker 2 (04:38):
They think his ceiling is higher in that realm.
Speaker 3 (04:41):
Well, while that might be the case with some people,
others may have a difference of opinion and that happens.
But I can understand why because the idea is that
Mems doesn't have that chemistry with the Bownicks like Troy
Franklin would have because he play with him and college.
But the only problem with that is that Troy's not
(05:03):
on the field a large amount of time, so you
can't work that chemistry and see what that's going to
be evolved with or evolve too if he's not on
the field. This is why I look at both Memes
and Franklin is interesting that you bring that up. Those
are the two fastest guys and the most explosive guys
on the Broncos offense, even if we know that right now.
(05:24):
In my opinion, this is my opinion only that until
that touchdown catch on Sunday, Troy was battling with some
confidence issues and dropping that past you know last week
that that changes the players, and that also changes the
coaches faith in the player that he can make that
particular type of play. But this is why I think
(05:44):
that you come up with maybe four or five plays
to feature either guy, and you use their speed if
you're not gonna get it to them, use it as
a way to back the defense off. Case in point,
remember Ted again Junior.
Speaker 2 (06:00):
He was fast, fast, fast.
Speaker 3 (06:02):
The first question, first thing people ask, well, we hey,
what are your thoughts on take it? The first thing
that comes out of their mouth is he's fast.
Speaker 2 (06:09):
Yep.
Speaker 3 (06:09):
They don't say he's a great runner. He pulls in
these tough catches.
Speaker 2 (06:14):
No.
Speaker 3 (06:14):
So the idea we saw Ted Again Junior in an
offense by Sean Paige which is probably why there might
have been a comparison to I mean those.
Speaker 1 (06:24):
For either of those guys, because yes, and there's a
chance that they all got in at their very height
of their speed in a one hundred meters dash at
ted gins faster than all those guys. Again, maybe faster
than just about any player that Sean has had.
Speaker 2 (06:37):
But you use that speed.
Speaker 3 (06:38):
They used it in the.
Speaker 1 (06:38):
Wall and it took the top off the defense and
it worked. And there's a couple other guys that we
could think of that also existed in that defense. But
at the same time, Troy Franklin boat puts it there.
I asked him about a postgame and he says, that's
on me. I gotta put it a yard behind. You
have to catch that ball.
Speaker 2 (06:53):
That's the NFL, right, we're not we're not in high school.
We're not.
Speaker 1 (06:56):
It's not Pop Warner, it's not junior high, it's not
even in college. He puts that on him, wide open,
good route, busted coverage. You have to catch that ball.
And then on Marvin Moms go route yesterday, that's on bow.
Marvin's got a good step on the guy. If he
puts it out there, I'm gonna say Marvins one hundredercent
catches it, but he had to wait for the ball
to get there. The defense ends up making a nice play, but.
Speaker 3 (07:17):
Well that was passing insurance.
Speaker 1 (07:19):
Okay, makes enough of a play to disrupt the catch though,
because he had to wait. If it's out there, and
Bo has the ability to get a little more airrand
he just.
Speaker 2 (07:27):
Didn't on that play.
Speaker 1 (07:27):
And I understand sometimes its footwork, sometimes pressure all that.
Speaker 2 (07:30):
I haven't gone back and watched that throw. I just
in real time.
Speaker 1 (07:33):
My thought is, Okay, it was, and we're seeing the
replay just there lead him and give him a chance
to just run away from the defense.
Speaker 2 (07:39):
And it's not unique to bow.
Speaker 1 (07:40):
It happens plenty of times where quarterback just short arms
is a little bit or overthrows a guy by by
five yards and you're like, oh, well, he already had
the step. But I think the Franklin thing, to say
the last of the confidence thing is interesting. But the
consistency we saw it in camp where you couldn't catch
the ball and they probably work hand in hand. After
that drop again, which Bo took credit for, but after
(08:03):
that drop last week, I don't believe that Troy Franklin
played another snap. But then yesterday, even as the game
felt like it was getting out of hand early, Frankle
still made a catch here there, and you're like, okay,
he's gonna get the play more. I think there basically
showed him, hey, if you catch the ball, we think
you've got a little something. Josh Reynolds is banged up.
The other thing too, though, Davon Vle he just catches
(08:25):
the football. He does feel like a Tim Patrick clone.
He's wearing Tim's old number, right. Oh, maybe Tim didn't
warre seventeen, did two or seventeen? A little Jordan wore seventeen.
But big receiver Devon Valley just catches the football when
it thrown. As we had four yesterday obviously said what
was it eight against Seattle? So I just I just
want to see more, a little more Valent, a little more,
a little more Valent, a little more Franklin.
Speaker 2 (08:44):
But I don't want to take Courtland up the field
that much either.
Speaker 3 (08:47):
No, you're not taking Courtland off the field.
Speaker 2 (08:49):
But I'm okay taking LJ off a little bit.
Speaker 3 (08:51):
Okay, So when you look at the Broncos wide receivers,
each guy does something a little different. And when you
look at the fact that Josh Vnder wasn't on the field,
to me, you can plug and play the lay in
that position because that's more of a possession receiver type position.
Now we're talking about speed, speed to back the defense up,
(09:12):
speed to put fear in the defensive coordinators. Right now,
the Broncos don't have anyone on the roster that projects
that like a Tyreek Hill, but you do have Troy,
you do have Mems. Now, if you're looking for reliability,
well Mims has been the most reliable guy over the
past two years is being able to make those types
(09:32):
of catches. Think about the Dolphins game right, then go
back to the Patriots game where the Broncos are trailing
in the fourth quarter. They need to play. Russ crambles
out to the right side over to defensive players who
hauls in the catch Marvin Mahm. So he shows that
he's got the speed and he has the concentration to
haul in those passes. But once again it comes back
to rhythm. Think about basketball, Yeah, think about basketball being
(09:55):
a shooter, right, they say shoot or shoot, But in
order for your confidence, it's to start to bill. You
got to see that first ball go through the boy
to go in, go in. Then after that, now it's
like an ocean.
Speaker 2 (10:08):
It'spriae A saying though with receivers is exactly.
Speaker 1 (10:11):
It's Calvin Ridley complaining that, hey, I got to get
the ball early. I understand that, like a Tim Patrick
had three catches yesterday and I don't know where they
happened in the game. Detroit kicked the crap out of Dallas.
But Tim Patrick can probably go the whole game. And
if you throw it to him in the fourth quarter
on third and four, he'll.
Speaker 2 (10:27):
Get the catch for five yards.
Speaker 1 (10:29):
And that's not unique to Tim Patrick, but certain guys
just approach things differently. Calvin Ridley is telling us that
he needs a ball early, and with a young receiver especially,
I think that there's probably something to that. If you're
gonna try to feature them as part of your game plan,
like you talked about four or five plays, you probably
have to have some of those in your first fifteen
for a couple of reasons. One to get their confidence up,
(10:49):
but like you said, because those guys are the two
fastest with Mims and Franklin, to soften the defensive because
in topo, Nick shows opposing defenses that hey, I can
beat you down the field, and if you're gonna play
up in the box and try to slow our run
game down, especially with when we feature our running backs,
not not the quarterback breaking contain and just making a
play that we're gonna make you pay, and in order
(11:12):
to do that.
Speaker 2 (11:12):
You have to complete passes down the field.
Speaker 3 (11:13):
Well, if you go back and watch some of the
film that the Broncos have played so far, there is
not that threat and opponent safeties and what I do
when I look at safeties, the first thing I look
is he taking a stagger stand word stance where he's
trying to actually backpedal and get out because he feels
as though there's immediate threat. But when you watch some
of the Broncos games, you see safeties somewhat sitting flat
(11:37):
footed right because they are preparing for the run or
in the case of the Chargers, they were looking to
rob any inside breaking routes. So you got to do
something to back those guys off, and whether that's double
moves or do something. But the problem that the Broncos
have had, which probably plays in the hands of the defense,
(11:57):
there's no exploitation down between like ten or twelve yards
between the half is because usually that's where teams use
their tight ends to operate.
Speaker 1 (12:07):
Who wait, what, Well, I don't know you're talking, because
I mean I watched Colorado play and I watched the Broncos.
Speaker 3 (12:16):
It's the same thing, right.
Speaker 2 (12:19):
I didn't even know. I don't know if the Buffs
have one on the roster.
Speaker 3 (12:23):
Yeah, they do have a guy who Masker Raids is
a tight end, but I think he is somewhat of
a larger type running back.
Speaker 2 (12:30):
Yeah. And then for the Broncos, we know exactly what
they have.
Speaker 1 (12:33):
Greg Dolsich has shown flashes, certainly showed it in training camp.
Speaker 2 (12:36):
We know that he has not been healthy consistently.
Speaker 3 (12:37):
Well, he's been a healthy di scress for two games.
Speaker 2 (12:39):
I'm just saying throughout his career seeing him do it
a lot, we flashes.
Speaker 1 (12:43):
Lucas Kroll may or may not have had the best
spring of anyone we've ever seen, but he's still limited.
Really good athlete. I mean, we know he's a college
pitcher thrown in the mid nineties. Is a big lefty,
but at that size at six sixty sixty seven, good athlete,
big target runs well, but obviously isn't overly dynamic, or
they figure out a way to feature him more. Adam
(13:05):
Troutman is your durable second third tight end that every
team has that can block and we'll catch the five
yard out when you need it on third and four
if he happens to be open or sneaks into the
back of the fake block or block for a second release.
Adam Troutman is not scaring anyone. He's not Jimmy Graham,
he's not Travis Kelcey, he's not Gronk.
Speaker 2 (13:22):
And then Nate Atkins is to.
Speaker 1 (13:24):
Do everything glorified full back tight and kind of the
same thing. When you throw it to him, he's probably
gonna catch it. He might break a tackle, but he
is not dynamic. They do not have that right now.
And you'd think in the modern version of college football
into the NFL, we are seeing more and more freakish
kind of big, big play potential out of the tight
(13:45):
ends kind of coming up, but they don't. I guess
the question is what we see that you know, I
don't know the roster break Dennis for Thursday, especially if
PS two's down, But how can we see Donald Parhum.
Speaker 3 (13:55):
Look, I was standing on a sideline pregame, he walked
by you and you were like a roaming up and yeah,
and I was like, well, where's this tree going? Right?
And for me, even though he doesn't have a Lucas
Crow type of speed or the Jimmy Graham type of athleticism,
but he is a big target and that's all you want.
And why not be able to use even Nate Atkins,
(14:17):
even though he doesn't he's not a burner, use him
in the same way that we've seen Travis Kelcey use
with the Kansait the Chiefs go up there Block one,
one thousand and two, one thousand, just fall off, and
that I mean that puts you in the second and manageable.
And you need to make sure that you have a
play sheet where and I know Coach Payton has a
play sheet where he has several plays that work within
(14:40):
second and six and second and seven. That's where the
Broncos need to be.
Speaker 1 (14:43):
All right, we were talking about the Buffs, talking about
the Broncos as well. We're gonna talk to somebody who's
kind of plugged into both teams about as well as anyone.
Our pal romy Bean from CBS four is going to
join us. Here in just a little bit, don't go anywhere,
or its forty pickle bar and grill as we are
every single Monday. Brandon Crossolan for Benjamin Albright. He's Nick
Ferguson and this is Broncos Country Night on KOA eight
(15:03):
fifty and ninety four to one FM. KOA Sports was
(15:29):
here three to six. Now you got us Broncos Country
to Night. I'm in for Benjamin Albright. My name is
Brandon Christall Nick Ferguson alongside and both this weekend. Next
week you can come by and register for the Broncos
next home game and chance to win tickets for Panthers
at Broncos Josie Jewles triumphant Return. And now we're gonna
talk about Sean Payton's triumphant return perhaps to places he
(15:51):
called home for fifteen sixteen years, and took him from
a team that had never won a playoff game to
a team that won a Super Bowl and went to
the playoffs.
Speaker 2 (15:59):
A whole bunch Drew Brees going.
Speaker 1 (16:01):
Into the Hall of Fame there with the same say
of a Ring of Honor and a Hall of fame,
so they basically two separate levels of being honored, but
we're gonna talk to our pal romy Bean from CBS.
Speaker 2 (16:11):
For the lead sports anchor.
Speaker 1 (16:13):
Follow her on Twitter, romy Underscore Bean, and she, of
course does a Coach Prime show every week. Did you
have x A Monday Live tonight Rome here with the
Weird Week?
Speaker 2 (16:23):
Did it get changed around?
Speaker 4 (16:26):
I did, but I went we had a Tyler Pulumbus
on the show with the Weird Week. The guys were like,
hard to get a guy on a Thursday game.
Speaker 5 (16:34):
So yeah, yeah.
Speaker 1 (16:37):
Yeah, Okay, I'm sure Tyler had plenty of good stuff
to say.
Speaker 2 (16:41):
But just in general, as you.
Speaker 1 (16:45):
Were at the game yesterday in the locker room and
then kind of around town today and doing your thing,
what's your take on the Broncos loss and how the
first three quarters went as well as how the fourth
quarter played out, especially for the offense.
Speaker 4 (17:01):
Yeah, and I think when you talk lost, we got
we got two losses to talk about, right, the Pats
of Tan and then the offense. So starting with the offense,
it was one of those things where it's a bit frustrating,
but you know, you see them come to life in
the fourth quarter, which is good. You could argue that
a lot of that's garbage time the Chargers are playing
(17:22):
prevent defense. That's not wrong, but it has come to
a point where this is now the third game out
of six where they're scoreless in the first half, and
that's simply not sustainable, and they have to find ways
to get going. And Sean Payton certainly seems open to it.
Speaker 5 (17:37):
Right, It doesn't seem like he shut down the idea of.
Speaker 4 (17:40):
Trying a little more up tempo. They tried it in
the game yesterday, right, and Jamonte fumbled and then there was,
you know, a penalty from the offensive line. So not
like they're not trying. But I think that they got
to get the run game going, and I'll be excited
to see Odri Estimate kind of get worked in there
a little bit more. But to me, you know, obviously
(18:00):
he's got a million things going on.
Speaker 5 (18:01):
He's a rookie.
Speaker 4 (18:02):
These are long plays, we know all this, and a
little more reliance on the run game, I think we
could really help him a lot, settle in and just
kind of kind of get going. And some of the catches,
you know, Baul will he knows what to say, He'll
take the blame, but.
Speaker 5 (18:19):
Some of them, you know, I think his receivers got.
Speaker 4 (18:22):
To help him out a little bit. I personally would
like to see a little bit more Devon Vley like
he definitely gives a lot of Tim Patrick vibes. He's
out every time he gets an opportunity, he really makes
an impact and he finds a way to catch the ball.
And so, uh, that's the guy that I'm looking forward
to that I'm hoping we see a little bit more.
But that's the one big glass. And then you got Patrikan,
(18:43):
which is anyway you spin it, that you're not just
losing the best player on your team, you're losing one
of the best players in the NFL. Right now, how
does the defense adapt? I think one of the most
interesting things I heard in the locker room yesterday was
Riley Moss. I asked him about it and he said
he just drive it as a dark cloud. He said
it was like a dark cloud over the defense for
(19:03):
the entire first half. Then they went in the locker
room and they were like, look, we got to move forward.
We can't let this drag on. And they came out
in the second half and you saw a different defense.
So I feel pretty positive about what we're going to
see from them. It's going to look different. But I
guess if Pat had to miss at any point in
the season, it's a lot better now than the miss
you know k C. Baltimore than meant to miss that stretch.
(19:25):
It's if you want a silver lining that one.
Speaker 3 (19:29):
Well, speaking of seabout civil linings, I know the first
half wasn't that great, but the Broncos only gave up
three points in the third quarter and that was it,
and they pretty much shut out the Chargers. And I
don't want to go all do them and gloom with you, romy,
but I want to focus on some positive things. Let's
talk about that defense and how they played in the
(19:50):
second half. What was your thought process on watching them
play in executing the second half.
Speaker 4 (19:56):
Yeah, I mean I thought I thought they really started
to figure out how to bring a little bit of pressure.
In that first half. It was you know, Pat went
down and they it was it affected everything, right, They
couldn't they weren't bringing the pressures like usual, couldn't bring
that extra guy. And I think there was a little
bit of an adjustment period for everyone. But I did
think it was very telling and positive to hear Riley
(20:16):
Moss say we went in a half time and They're like, look,
we can't let this keep spiraling. So they really regrouped,
and then you saw the guys getting a lot more pressure.
Guys are getting sacks. Nick Benito has been doing really
well with four games in a row, right, four game
sack streak. So I liked. I liked how they adjusted,
how they adapted to it. You simply can't replace a
(20:38):
guy like that, but for the defense to then kind
of get their emotions back together, rally, kind of go
through the adversity and figure out how to come out,
not take a whole game to get through it. Even right,
just a half was really solid. And then you look
at coming up in New Orleans. It's a far inferior
quarterback compared to Justin Herbert, So you should feel good
(21:00):
about what they can, about what they're going to do.
And so I think you look at the second half,
that's the Denver defense that we have known all year.
And you got to give Riley Moss a ton of
credit too as well. Right, he's just been fantastic, continues
to be fantastic. He'll have an elevated role probably this
week right now, taking on the number one receiver, and
I'm looking forward to seeing how he handles that because
(21:24):
he's been really really solid all year.
Speaker 1 (21:26):
Well, that number one receiver could very much be in
question Chris Alave with a concussion, and then we hear
that Rashid Shihied is dealing with an I don't want
to say an ankle, so they could be without their
top two receivers, and then that kind of neutralizes a
bit not having PS two. But as they go to
New Orleans with the short week, how much of a
(21:47):
step can an offense struggle, you know, not only through
three quarters, but it struggle at times throughout this entire
year to really find their footing. How much can they,
I guess, improve versus just find what worked well because
they're not going to have really no practice today and
walk through tomorrow, walk through Wednesday.
Speaker 4 (22:04):
Yeah, it'll be okay. I think that's so interesting because
in general, Thursday night games tend to be not very entertaining,
tend to be not very high scoring. Guys are sore,
their bodies are like just getting right. So it's one
of those games where it's hard to imagine an offensive
explosion outside of the fact that the Saints are struggling
and perhaps they have you know, they can kind of
(22:26):
exploit some things, but I think in general, on the
short week, I don't necessarily look to see them take
a huge leap in that sense because I just think
just the history of Thursday night football. However, Sean Payton
even said today right, Thursday night games show that with
that fatigue, you have to get off to a faster start.
(22:46):
So I think it's going to be interesting to see
how they approach that. How do they approach the game.
It's going to be loud indoors, right, they don't I
feel like they pumpsake noise in there, even though I
don't know if they do or not. But I think
it's just to continue what they've been doing some things
at work, and maybe a little more. Troy Franklin early
a little to them on vele early and again in
(23:07):
the run game. Really pressed that run game early to
try and impose your will a little bit, demoralize the
Saints a little bit, because it's hard on Thursday nights.
I think everybody's fatigued and tired. It's hard to imagine
a big explosion. But you just want to see, in
my opinion, just something more. Right, give me ten points
in the first half, well, there.
Speaker 3 (23:27):
Was a guy who showed up Sunday that just a
week ago, there was so many Broncos fans really down
on him, and I'm sure he was down on hisself.
And that's Troy Franklin, so catching his first touchdown of
the regular season and is his young rookie season. What
do you think that now does for his confidence in himself,
but more importantly the coaching staff confidence in putting Troy
(23:51):
on Franklin on the field more.
Speaker 4 (23:54):
Yeah, I think that that's a huge point, Nick, And
it's massive because he was struggling and a lot of
flak from people, and you know that, I'm sure his
confidence was taking a big hit. So it's like anything
in sports, right, you gotta see the puck go in
the net. You gotta see the ball going the hoop
like you gotta catch it and get in the end zone.
And so I think that's massive for him. He obviously
(24:15):
does have a great connection with Bowe and there is
comfortability there and so I think that that's something that
hopefully they can continue to utilize as both continues to
kind of find ways to get more comfortable in this offense.
And so I think that's what everybody was maybe there
was too much pressure on Troy Franklin to produce too much,
(24:38):
you know, too soon as a rookie, realistically, because he
did have this connection with bon Nix, and even in
camp there was a lot of pressure on him and
those expectations weren't really being met. So I think this
is one of those things. While it might just seem
like one touchdown, could certainly be a turning point for
this young man, and I think it could be fantastic,
and hopefully they continue to put him out there and
then continue to keep him out there for a large
(24:59):
portion of game, keep building his confidence and let that
that Duck connection actually come to fruition here in the NFL.
Speaker 2 (25:08):
Ronnie Bean with us here for another couple of minutes.
Speaker 1 (25:10):
Broncos Country Tonight is where at Sporty Pickle Bar and
Grill and Centennial like we are every Monday. You can
also check her out at Exfinity Monday Live there. They
do that at the Viewhouse in Centennial about five minutes
from where we are.
Speaker 2 (25:21):
And she always has a fun guest as well.
Speaker 1 (25:24):
Most Mondays there in the football season, it's a Broncos
player when it's not a short week, and hopefully after
a win. If they can come away with a w,
you'll get another Broncos player next week. But I'm curious
before we ask you about your power coach Prime, who
you talk to every single week there for CBS four,
and you guys do a great job with that show
as well. When Sean Payton is making this return, with
(25:44):
apologies to Connor McGovern planning as a team that drafted
him and all these other players that have ties to
the Saints and coaches have ties to the Saints, Sean
Payton changed everything about that organization, mostly for the better,
and what he Andrew Brees were able to do was
certainly remarkable from a franchise that had never even won
a playoff game. So what do you think the reception
will be like for Sean on Thursday, who we know
(26:07):
is still just focused on trying to bounce back from
a tough loss and win a football game.
Speaker 4 (26:12):
I think he's going to get a warm welcome. I
know he said today you didn't expect any flowers.
Speaker 5 (26:17):
Or anything nice, but I do think he's still going
to get a warm welcome, a warm reception, especially with
the fanfare that's going on there with Drew Brees and
obviously the two of them.
Speaker 4 (26:28):
Together really right, did a lot for that city and
that team at a really really horrible time, right that
was going on, and to win a Super Bowl. So
I think that he will be welcomed with open arms.
I do think it's different, though, like than when a
player returns. Obviously all of us here kind of think
about the Peyton Manning return to Indianapolis. I think it's
(26:48):
a little bit different for a head coach emotionally mentally,
you know, right, and you got your first fifteen So
even if he is emotional, that part's scripted, so you're good,
and then you're probably good and ready to go. But
I'm sure he'll have more emotions than he left onto.
But I think it'll be a nice warm reception, just
with everything else going on as well.
Speaker 3 (27:11):
All right, romy I know you were there at the
game Saturday. I saw you in the press box. What
do you make of the outcome of the Buffs game?
Because it was very interesting in a winnable game for
your CU Buffs, but it didn't come up that way.
So what do you think about Coach Primes and the
Buffs playing at eight fifteen? Any evening?
Speaker 4 (27:33):
I did eight fifteen games.
Speaker 2 (27:39):
Another one, you get another one coming, yeah, Like I.
Speaker 4 (27:43):
And somebody had told me, oh, I think Cincinnati's gonna
be one thirty. So I was like ready to go,
and I'm like, oh, come on, this is garbage.
Speaker 1 (27:50):
Hey, you can go to you can go to the
Nuggets Nuggets game before that, they played the Clippers at
three that day. Both y'all can double up and go
Nuggets and then head up to Bolter.
Speaker 4 (27:59):
Right, No, we'll just roll right into the Broncos game.
Speaker 5 (28:01):
Like why not? Yeah, the age fifteen kicks are brutal.
It's a lot of waiting for the guys.
Speaker 4 (28:06):
I don't like that. But I think when you look
at this Kansas State game that there's certainly I think,
really two ways you can look at it. But I
think that you can be disappointed. Obviously, the line play
was subpar. That continues to be a problem. But the
run game that was a problem, and there was definitely
a big problem committing to it in the Kansas State game,
(28:30):
and we had seen them commit to it earlier, so
it was earlier in the season, so it's interesting that
it kind of went away. But I think that the
other way to look at it is that I mean
The Buffs almost could have won this game, and they
were down your best player on offense, your best player
on defense in Travis Hunter. Then he was Jimmy Horn,
it was Amari and Miller. They were short a lot
(28:51):
of guys. The fact that Shador Sanders really almost willed
this team to a win, there's something to be said
for that. And I think that there's still a lot
of wins that.
Speaker 5 (29:01):
These bus this Bus team is gonna get.
Speaker 4 (29:03):
I think all of a sudden, right with this your
Big twelve championship, all that stuff's a little bit more
out of reach now. But when you take a step
back and you look at a team that had one
win two years ago, they had four wins last year.
I still think they're on track to win seven or eight,
which is pretty impressive when you look at again the
big picture of CU. I know people are wunning ten
(29:24):
to eleven, they won college football playoffs, all of that stuff,
But I think if you look at it a little
bit realistically, they're still on track to do really well
this season, to win eight plus games, and I think
the season is going to be interesting how it shakes out.
Speaker 5 (29:37):
Arizona, all of a.
Speaker 4 (29:38):
Sudden is a little more winnable than I thought it
was a few weeks ago, So I think it's gonna
be interesting to see how they respond. That's gonna be
a big picture. They got to get back to running
the ball, and you know Shador has to there are
times where he takes all five sacks, so I think
that's the one, you know, kind of flaw in his game.
Speaker 5 (29:54):
Is football.
Speaker 4 (29:55):
IQ's fantastic, but you got to work on that where
you know, holding on to it a little too long time.
So it'll be interesting to see how it evolves as
the season goes on. But I think that I've been
impressed with this team's kind of resiliency and finding ways
to improve a little bit each week.
Speaker 2 (30:10):
Romie, you're the best. We appreciate it.
Speaker 1 (30:12):
I know you had a long weekend and then obviously
your show tonight, and I'm sure you're not done. We
appreciate you carved down a few minutes for us here
on Broncos Country Night, and we'll make sure everybody's following
you at Roamy Underscore Being and I know you'll be
in New Orleans.
Speaker 2 (30:25):
As well, so we will see you in the big easy.
Speaker 4 (30:27):
Thanks so much, Thank you guys. Then Becam counting on
you to show me the town in New Orleans.
Speaker 1 (30:34):
Oh, I know where where to find some really good,
really good deals on some oysters. And maybe you'll get
a hurricane or a hand grenade, but then that might
affect your work on Thursday, so maybe we stay away
from those because I can mess with you, so it'll
still be fun regardless.
Speaker 2 (30:49):
Hopefully the Broncos will go there and get a win.
Speaker 4 (30:50):
Thanks romy all right, Thanks guys.
Speaker 2 (30:54):
There you go on the Common Spirit Health Hotline. One
and only.
Speaker 1 (30:58):
Roamy being former colleague of ours, as I often say,
she and I started at iHeart at the same time
we were running, working on a station called Orange or
Denver Sports seven sixty. She became the lead sports anchor
at CBS four. I moved a desk eight feet away,
ten feet away, so safe to say her career is
(31:20):
taking off more than mine. But now I'm back on
track doing this show with you, Nick tonight in for
Benjamin all Bright. We still got plenty to do here though,
at sporty pickle bar and grill, and can't wait to
look at the Sean Payton return to New Orleans. Let's
do that next, and we look at a couple other things,
including our pal King of park Hill getting his just
(31:42):
due honors as he is now a member of the
Basketball Hall of Fame there in Springfield, Ohio. He's Nick Ferguson.
I'm Brandon Christall and for Benjamin Albright. This show is
called Broncos Country Night at Sporty Pickle Bar.
Speaker 2 (31:54):
And Grill in Centennial.
Speaker 1 (31:55):
You're listening to Kowa eight fifty, a ninety four to
