Speaker 1 (00:00):
We're watching playoff baseball Yankees and Guardians game one of
the ALCS New York Cup five to one in the
top of the eighth, but the Indians at least put
a runner on Avalanche down two to one, is there
searching for their first win. We got that game on
as well. Cal Richie though his first goal in the
NAHL to get the scoring going. Islanders are scored two unanswered.

(00:21):
And then a fun Monday night game as the Bills
and Jets are going back and forth. And so if
you're looking for a place to watch a game on
a really any day of the week, especially with baseball
playoffs on basketball getting started, We're getting very close next
Thursday sports equinox, because you're gonna have NBA games account
they're gonna be Banner Night in Boston, followed by Nuggets
and I feel they might be playing the Sixers, but

(00:42):
Nuggets and Thunder here you'rs obvious gonna be Aursday night
football game. A week from this Thursday, you're gonna have
presumably some NHL hockey and baseball playoffs. So we are
very close to a sports equinox, probably next Thursday and
next Sunday, maybe even next Monday. But right now, Nick
Ferguson is here. I'm Brandon Chris staaland for Benjamin Albright,

(01:03):
and I asked romy this question. I want to ask
you this. Then we'll hear Sean Payton's thoughts as well.
What do you expect the reaction to be to a
guy that wanted to leave after sixteen years change the
culture there still has a place in New Orleans. I
think this side of Drew Brees is probably and maybe
even Archie Manning despite never winning a top three, top

(01:23):
five most popular Saints figure of all time? Do you
expect anything beyond resounding cheers? I guess I don't want
to leave the witness. What do you expect?

Speaker 2 (01:33):
Well, I expect it for to be somewhat of a
mixed bag.

Speaker 3 (01:38):
I mean, it always happens.

Speaker 2 (01:39):
I mean, the fans will remember what Sean Payton was
able to do with Drew Brees and bring a Super
Bowl to the city of New Orleans. But now he's
returning on a short week as an opposing head coach
for a team that their organization is playing. So yeah,
I mean, there's gonna be a pause, thank you for

(02:00):
everything you did, But then you're gonna get to the
nitty gritty of the game, and it's gonna be about
trying to cheer the Saints on to victory. But usually
isn't that how it works. Sometimes there's only certain players
and certain coaches who return to the scene of the
crime where there's a thunderous of applause. You are once

(02:22):
again the opponent. So it's just gonna be somewhat of
a mixed bag. But this is something that the players
have to continue with to. I mean, you're coming off
a loss in the game that you should have won.
You playing on the short week, a team who just
got blown out by a division rival, Tampa Bay Buccaneers,
a team that you beat. So if you're looking at that,

(02:42):
you said, well, the Broncos did beat Tampa Bay at
home on the road, so they should be able to
go into what they call it now, Is it still
do something?

Speaker 1 (02:51):
Supernome? It's not Mercedes once Mercedes took over in Atlanta?
Is it it's not Smoothie King? Is it Smoothie whatever
the name is.

Speaker 3 (03:00):
I don't know.

Speaker 1 (03:01):
Let's see super Dome. Let's see what it's called. Oh,
Caesars Sports Book. I think I was just I believe
it's caesar Sports, but super Dome.

Speaker 3 (03:08):
It's New Orleans, so it should be the big Caesars.

Speaker 1 (03:11):
Super Dome should be the begnet. But Caesars is paying
the money.

Speaker 3 (03:14):
Uh.

Speaker 1 (03:14):
And Caesar's actually renamed the Heras down there to see
you know, the same company. Yeah, I believe. So the
casino down there is Caesar's. I'm not sure if I'll
stop either, but I wouldn't. I'll be surprised. Don't be
surprised if.

Speaker 2 (03:27):
You find out that that means that we're going to stop.

Speaker 1 (03:31):
But I'm also gonna stop by Cafe Dumont and get
a get Aigne on Thursday morning as well.

Speaker 2 (03:36):
So why don't you say it like that You're gonna
stop by and get a Beigner, like you made a
senior Like I mean you can't just yeah, I mean
you just can't.

Speaker 1 (03:45):
Yes, I'm gonna stop by, Yes, an order of beign
yet and maybe some Chickery coffee, even though not the
biggest coffee drinker. But uh, it feels like you just
have to do it. So I think Sean will get
way more cheers than Booze throughout the game if he
does something a challenge. Whatever he gets in the rest face,

(04:07):
but with where that franchise was and what he did
for so long. Now he wasn't fired. If he was fired,
then you might be mad that it didn't go well.
Towards the end, he chose to walk away. Drew Brees
is being honored as well, so I think it will
be mostly positive. I think they're definitely gonna play some
sort of video, likely pre in because at halftime they're
putting Drew Brees in their Hall of Fame, separate from

(04:28):
their Ring of Honor, which I think he's already in.
I don't know why you need to have two of those,
but I don't run the Saints, so it's not really
up to me. But it feels like one is enough.
You're in the Ring of Honor. Great, retire Jersey great. Okay, fine,
But here was Sean Payton a couple times. So he's
asked right off the top, and me little radio magic
put the two the two answers with the question in
the middle from our guy, Jeff Legwall at ESPN about

(04:51):
his return to New Orleans. So this is the start
of his conference call today and he's gonna talk again tomorrow.
Busy day. It's the only day they meet the media
this week. Short week. But so the question for Parker
Gabriel the Denver Post is, Hey, you're making your return
to New Orleans after two years away and so many
great memories. What do you expect.

Speaker 4 (05:11):
It will be unique? I think this one of the
things we talked about with our players is, man, you know,
trying to handle all this stuff ahead of time. And
you know, I've got a great wife who's tickets are
done with, you know, family, my children. I think those

(05:32):
around us know, like you know, how how how challenging
the short week is as compared to if it was
a full week. And yeah, certainly there'll be emotions going
back there with players and and but I do think
that comes up quite a bit, you know, in our

(05:53):
league with players, and in this case, you know, certainly
the amount of time that I was there, I understand it.
And look, we have to deal with the crowd noise.
You know, it's if that place is loud, and you
guys know that. And so I guess I would say

(06:16):
fortunately it's a short week because I haven't had, you know,
a lot of chance to dive into all the other stuff.
I mean, you know, Drew's going into their Hall of Fame.
Now they also have a Ring of Honor, so that's
a separate event, and you know, and soon the Pro
Football Hall of Fame. And so you know, I've already

(06:39):
reached out to him and congratulated him and said, hey, look,
you're this is the first of you know, many, But
but I think still it's about and I and I
say this, man, it's about the game. It's about to
win the significance of us playing our best football on

(07:00):
a short week, and it's about our team. And and
I'll address that with them tomorrow morning. You know, Hey,
let's uh, let's understand, you know, the significance of getting
our fourth win. I think that that's the number one thing.

(07:21):
And and then uh go from there.

Speaker 5 (07:24):
When Manning went back to Indy for the first time,
they waited until the teams were back out on the
field and then played a tribute video to him right
before kickoff, and he said later it was kind of
an emotional, odd feeling for him. And I guess I'm
just curious, have you thought about how you would handle

(07:46):
any of those things pregame or or you know, halftime
or whatever.

Speaker 4 (07:52):
I think that's pretty clever by Indie. I mean, in
other words, I I'm usually I don't know, they kind
of wound up pre game and ready to go, and
so look, I think the obviously for a player it's different,
but for me, I think this first off, that the

(08:15):
evening's about the game. And then secondly, you know, Breeds
is getting honored at halftime, and and I don't think
there's gonna be a lot of flowers and warm fuzzies,
uh for yours truly, and and I get it. So
but it's a good question, and that's uh, you know,

(08:39):
I think that, Uh, listen, I can't stand losing, and
so it's about it's about our team and and me
as the head coach the Broncos getting ready to play
uh on an early week and try to play one

(08:59):
of our better game.

Speaker 1 (09:02):
So Sean Payton there kind of working through all of it,
because I don't think he's going to spend a lot
of time in Denver thinking about it. When they land
in New Orleans and then he goes to the hotel
and when he's not in meetings and he gets to
the Superdome, makes the drive to the Superdome, which is
obviously gonna be a different drive because they're not staying

(09:23):
at the same hotel that was the Saints team hotel.
So he's coming from a different I mean, same neighborhood
kind of, but not very long. It might start to
hit him little bit there, but he's gonna get into
his pregame routines and be in his office. He's gonna
see so many people he knows. But is he downplaying
what this return is gonna mean to him? Or because
he's a coach, he's and he's not a player. It's
gonna be like, oh no, I've got a job to

(09:43):
do and I'll worry about the other stuff later. Because
he had forty two tickets to the game last week
against the Raiders, that number's got to be double this week.

Speaker 2 (09:51):
Well, he may be downplaying it for his team as
a coach, but you don't spend that long with the
organization as a coach or a player without having some
kind of emotional connection.

Speaker 3 (10:03):
And I know.

Speaker 2 (10:04):
In the realm of sports, when you play against your
former team. I remember when I played against the Jets
as a member of the Broncos, and when I played
against the Broncos as a member of.

Speaker 3 (10:14):
The Houston Texans.

Speaker 2 (10:15):
You try to separate the emotion as much as you can,
because once they kick it off and blow the whistle,
you want it to be competitive without your emotions taken over.

Speaker 3 (10:26):
But this is an emotional game.

Speaker 2 (10:28):
So it's going to be hard for coach Payton not
to have some emotion because, like you said, I mean,
Drew Brees is going into the ring of fame, and
knowing as though those guys both spent an enormous amount
of careers and had a lot of success in New Orleans,
how can you not I mean, it would be very
difficult to just try to suppress those emotion Knowing as though.

Speaker 3 (10:51):
Breeze is going in.

Speaker 2 (10:52):
You would like to think that coach Payton had a
little to do with that from a play calling standpoint.
And my question is, I know he is member of
the Denver Broncos. Will he stand out there for a
moment to absorb some of that?

Speaker 3 (11:06):
But knowing him.

Speaker 2 (11:07):
And knowing as though he is somewhat of a Bill
Parcells disciple, he's not going to do that. He's probably
gonna have his conversation if he hasn't had it with
Drew already congratulating him, but still letting him know that, hey, listen,
I'm coming in there as opponent.

Speaker 3 (11:22):
I got a job to do. We just lost.

Speaker 2 (11:25):
Maybe if the Broncos had won, maybe things might be
a little different.

Speaker 3 (11:30):
But yeah, I mean it's going to be emotional time.

Speaker 2 (11:33):
And then if there is a tribute, which leg Wall
kind of prepped.

Speaker 1 (11:38):
Him for, right. I think that's one of those things
where Leggy and there's plenty of us that work in
media that are going to approach our jobs differently. Leggy
plays about as straight as anyone, and I don't think
he was trying to prepare Sean for this more so,
I think you just saying, hey, this is what happened
with Peyton Manning. So by just asking the question, now, Sean,

(11:59):
may we know how much coaches want to prepare anyway,
may be ready for a video to come there out
that he wasn't thinking about, or he's going to know
that it's coming, and you're still gonna be a little
emotional sort of like I have to think if you're
going to kids graduation or you're speaking at your kid's
wedding or whatever, you're still probably going to be emotional,
even though you know you're expecting to be emotional. It

(12:20):
can be hard, I think to block out the emotion.

Speaker 2 (12:24):
Well, listen, even if coach Paydon is emotional, I don't
think anyone should hold it against and I listen, there
are certain members of the local media group who might
look to hold it against him, but I wouldn't hold
it against him.

Speaker 3 (12:38):
And we all emotional creatures.

Speaker 2 (12:39):
And when you spend a significant amount of time like
Coach Payton has spent in New Orleans kind of getting
that organization to where it's kind of respectable, because remember,
I mean they went through and they had to deal
with a hurricane down there and being displaced and then
coming back and giving the cities first, you know, Lombardi

(13:00):
Trophy that means something, so right before and if you
the Saints, you can say, look, we're gonna tap into
the emotional part and hopefully hopefully we're going to validate
sund Peyton and Drew Brees, but maybe we can be
a little more of a distraction too it at the
same time, So yeah.

Speaker 1 (13:18):
You almost expect it, right. I think that I think
that they should do that, just like I'm the Broncos.
I do it for Justin Simmons in a month when
he comes in with the Falcons.

Speaker 3 (13:26):
Do you think the Bronco's gonna do that for Justin.

Speaker 1 (13:28):
They did it for Damarius Thomas. I get Damarus want
to ring, but you know, four or five time pro bowler.
A week later from week after being traded from Denver
to Houston, Speck in Denver was so weird, not even
a week. It was less week, like five days, I believe,
or maybe there's a buy in there, but it was
like the next game, it was pretty wild. Yes, I
do think they're and I would do it just just

(13:49):
for the disrept but also to say thank you for
a guy that still calls Denver home, three time Walter
Payton Man of the Year, Pro Bowl or All Pro.
Maybe they don't, but I think that's one where the
penners and and maybe the folks on that side, on
the business side and commun relations, let them know, hey,
we're thinking about doing this. Coach. It's not gonna be

(14:09):
a four minute video. It's gonna be a sixty second tribute,
but hey, thanks Justin. And maybe they do it even
during the game, but I think that we'll see it.

Speaker 2 (14:16):
I mean, just think from a competitive standpoint, if you
could throw him off, why wouldn't you do it? Well,
obviously you would, but I don't think it would be
something that elaborate, because, like you said, DT won a
championship here, so it's Justin Simmons, thank you on a
jumbo tron. You get the big voice in the stadium said,
appreciate everything that you've given a Broncos country.

Speaker 3 (14:37):
Let's play ball.

Speaker 1 (14:38):
I think maybe it could be that simple. But he's
also a guy that, over the last eight years had
the most interceptions of anybody in football, so you may
see a little bit of you don't want to give
too much.

Speaker 2 (14:48):
The idea is that you don't want to give too
much of an advantage to an opponent so they will
acknowledge him. I'm thinking in a certain way, but you're
not gonna lean into it too much.

Speaker 1 (14:59):
I think that now Sean Payton heard about that, and
we'll see what happens on Thursday. Well no, well, now
he's gonna be prepared. But I think he's gonna be like,
oh we can we can see if Justin gets emotional too,
and that takes them out of his game and we're
gonna receive the kick and then we're gonna throw a
go route right over his head.

Speaker 3 (15:12):
You had to play the game within the game.

Speaker 1 (15:13):
All right, We're gonna look at a couple other things
going on around the NFL as well as circle back
to the Broncos and what it might take to win
in New Orleans on Thursday against the rookie quarterback and
banged up Saints team. Nothing that the Broncos aren't banged
up as well. He's Nick Ferguson. I'm Brand and Kristall.
We're at the Sporty Pickle Bar and Grill in Centennial
or listen to Broncos Country Night on Koaight eight fifty

(15:35):
ninety four one FM. He is Nick Ferguson, Umber and

(16:00):
krsul in for Benjamin Albright And we hadn't had a
chance to talk about this yet, but my one of
my favorite things on the football calendar for any given team,
but in this case for the Broncos every year is
when you get an email on the Monday after a
Sunday game. I headed the Thursday game that gives you

(16:23):
both teams injury report. So this came in at I
want to It's like two to twenty four, give or
take two thirty four. Mind you, neither team practiced, but
by the league rule, they have to give you an
injury report, so under the premise that nobody practiced. Damari
matthis was a full participant in a practice that didn't

(16:45):
exist despite the ankle injury. Justineternad he's got ribs. Full
practice again, full participant, no practice ever occurred. Jay Kwan, McMillan,
Riley Moss, Alex Pouchesky all limited in the practice that
didn't ever take place, and then pastser ten second concussion,
he also did not practice, but he was listed as
did not practice now for the Jets, not the Jets,

(17:06):
I'm sorry the Saints. We're watching Jets and the bills.
For the Saints, three players were full participants, including the
Honey Badger. About six or seven were limited, and Derek
car Cris Alabe Lucas, Patrick Sesar Ruiz, Rashichi heat and
Pete Warner did not practice officially did not practice. Mind you,
zero people practiced. So this is a very silly exercise.

(17:27):
The NFL could simply they make up their own rules.
They can say, hey, we don't need to put out
an injury report unless you actually have an official workout,
even a walk through. There were no players in the
building beyond beyond uh or on the field I'm sorry
they were in the building. I believe in meetings he had.
You had rehab rest, rehabilitation, and then some sort of meetings.

(17:49):
They might have even done them on zoom from home.
But they had to get into their game plan today
and treat it like a Wednesday. If you will, Tomorrow
gets treated like a Thursday and a Friday. They will
not be very heavy on the field, and then Wednesday's
a walkthrough and they get on a plane. But I
just think this exercise is so funny that the league's like, oh,
did not practice. I'm like, you just listened. All fifty
three players and the entire practice squad all did not practice.

(18:11):
I also did not practice, but I didn't make the
night they did you, But neither was the made the
report we practiced and or didn't practice as much as
the Broncos today.

Speaker 2 (18:21):
Well, I mean that is per the league protocol. This
is something that you have to do. So you basically
have a dispute with the league's daily practices as far
as listing players as active or did not practice, even
though it's a day when technically no one's realistically.

Speaker 1 (18:44):
We are all smart enough to understand they didn't practice,
so tomorrow's report. Even if it's a light jog through walkthrough,
we'll have people on the field with the helmet on,
no shoulder pass. Ye, nobody's in pads this week. Full participation,
full participation in whatever our limited work is, limited participate
or in the case of PS two, we would expect
almost no participation.

Speaker 3 (19:04):
Yes, did not be and P.

Speaker 1 (19:06):
It's okay to say, hey, on Monday, just leave it blank.
It's fine, leave it blank. You can't, but you can.
You also have to list to Wednesday one knowing that
they're just gonna walk through and get on a plane.
They make you do it three days. It's three days
leading up to it. So I get it. For all
you baseball fans out there. We are one step closer
to the Yankees representing the American League in the World

(19:29):
Series as they win Game one of the ALCS in
the Bronx five to two over the Guardians, and so
Game two I believe will be tomorrow. It'll be a
travel day as the Dodgers and Mets. After the Mets
I believe held on to win today, the Mets and
Dodgers will fly back to New York for Wednesday's Game
three of the NLCS, but let me double check just

(19:53):
to be sure. I so other the Mets were up. Yep,
they held on seven to three, so one to one
in the NLCS. Don't spend too much time on baseball.
A quick question for you, what's the best series for baseball?
We know the Yankees Mets is fun in New York,
and I understand the Guardians have never won World Series.
The other three franchises obviously have on and not a

(20:14):
lot for the Mets, they're the highest payroll in baseball,
But Yankees Dodger. I'm just gonna take the Guardians out
of it. I'm saying most exciting to watch it won't
be the Guardians, even if they make it. You mean,
as far as interests fan interests outside of Yankees fans,
Mets fans, Dodger fans, Guardians fans, it feels like Yankees
Dodgers because of Otani right, and New York LA and

(20:34):
that Lakers nick. You know what I.

Speaker 2 (20:36):
Would say this being a baseball fan, I would love
to see the story tradition between the Dodgers and the Yankees.
And then you've got two sluggers or for the for
their Yankee sake, they got three.

Speaker 1 (20:51):
You got three, and you got a former MVP and
Mookie bet So you've got some players Freddy Freeman guys
like that. But Otani against Aaron Judge.

Speaker 3 (20:59):
That that's the back to back, like.

Speaker 1 (21:02):
I said, are back to back MVPs. Well, you have
the MVP in both leagues. Uh, Otani will become the
first player to be MVP in both leagues and back
to back years. It's only happened one at a time.
Frank Robinson's gotta be Yankees Dodgers, right, Yeah.

Speaker 2 (21:13):
Yeah, I mean listen, I talked to a couple of
friends who live in New York. Obviously they're Mets fans.
They would love to see somewhat of a subway series,
but with yeah, yeah, what would that bring a lot
of eyes to baseball? Maybe some, But I mean, this
is the end of the base alone baseball season, and
you want that October drama. So having the Dodgers, uh

(21:37):
they're pitching staff versus and Showtani, show, show Hey Otani
versus Aaron Judge and and the pitching staff from the Yankees,
to me that that's more something celebratory that I would
want to see as a baseball fan.

Speaker 1 (21:52):
And they did play a bunch in the forties and
fifties in terms of the World Series. Back when the
Dodgers were in Brooklyn, you had Don Larson's perfect game
back in nineteen fifty six, the Dodgers beat the Yankees.
In sixty three, seventy seven, you had the Bronx's burning
seventy eight, you had Bucky Den in the playoffs. But
they haven't really had even though in the league's allowed

(22:12):
them to play more and now they're gonna play every
year either in New York or LA. I just think
it's it's more fun, and it involves two huge fan
bases that are on opposite coasts. If it's Guardians and
Dodgers or Guardians and Mets, that will still do fine.

Speaker 3 (22:27):
Yeah, but that's not exciting.

Speaker 1 (22:29):
That's not exciting. It's not sorry Cleveland fans, it's just
not exciting.

Speaker 2 (22:32):
It's not you know what, thinking about the Dodgers and
thinking about how the season started for them, and it
didn't start really great for the Dodgers, and there were
those who are you know, experts in basic league baseball
who felt as though this was gonna be another year
where another disappointing year. And even with show Hey o'tani
in the fall that was gonna be the case. But

(22:55):
I started to wonder about the Rockies fans because contibly,
you see either the Dodgers or the Arizona Diamondbacks in
the Big Show in.

Speaker 1 (23:07):
Giants won three and six years and you're wondering, Okay, well,
will there be another October? I'd like to see a
rock timber Well, I'm asking you guys, will see some
competitive baseball September that matters where they're batling. Look, they've
made the PLAYFFS a couple times in the kind of
the end of the Nolan Arnatto era more or less,

(23:29):
but it's been lean and it doesn't feel like anything.
The only chance you talk about October, Yeah, look you
were with the Broncos. Then you remember how much fun
that was. That was when I first got to town.
That was my first full baseball sea or full baseball
season in full football season. Cover in the Broncos was
oh seven and it was a blasting miracle run. But
the coolest thing about that team was that they'd all

(23:49):
kind of grown up together. So Matt Holliday and Tulow
and Garrett Atkins and some of those pitchers, Josh Fogg
we go down the list, Ubaldo, they'd all played together
in the miners and came up in com paired with
you know, a match with guys like Todd Helton and
La Troy Hawk and some of the other vets that
were around. And so you have so many young guys
that have played and I think have made an impact

(24:11):
or will make an impact with the Dovar, with Ryan
McMahon making his first All Star Game, with Brendan Rodgers healthy,
with Brenton Doyle, Michael Toley, the good things using from
Nolan Jones that it feels like they have a chance
to get there. You need your pitching, You want Kyle
Freeland healthy. You need some of these young guys you've
drafted really high to come up and be flame throwers

(24:32):
and be as dominant as pitchers in Colorado can be.
And we know that hasn't been you know, it's been
few and far between in terms of just because of
just the way this ballpark is so it it'd be
fun to see and we'll continue to watch these playoffs.
I realize I think, you know, we know Taylor Swift
lives in New York and Travis will go visitor, but
also Travis as he and his brother Jason talked about

(24:52):
they're from Cleveland, They're from Cleveland Heights, and so they
he's there cheering for the Indians, not the Yankees. I
don't know who. I mean, Taylor, I probably didn't care.

Speaker 2 (25:02):
I mean that, just be totally honest what this was.
This is kind of for more FaceTime.

Speaker 1 (25:08):
That's what he's got, the ability to get them playing
tonight and be practice tomorrow. Wednesday went over, they're practicing,
they had a bye week. I don't have any problems
with him being there, but he's also from Cleveland, and
I get it.

Speaker 3 (25:19):
I get it. Listen.

Speaker 2 (25:21):
I understand that it happens in the NFL games and
sometimes they show more of what's going in the box
with her opposed to what's happening on the field. And look,
their relationship is what it is, and I respect it,
but let's not shift it.

Speaker 3 (25:35):
I don't want to see it in baseball.

Speaker 1 (25:37):
I don't want to see them baseballing. Look, they all
went to the they all went to a game last year, right,
they went to a World Series game in Dallas or Arlington, whatever.

Speaker 2 (25:44):
Yeah, but once again, I don't want to I get
enough of it in the I don't want to. I
don't want to see it in baseball. And granted, yeah,
you know, Kelsey said, you know, he's a Guardian fan
and all of that.

Speaker 1 (25:56):
But Indians, he's from Cleveland, he's a Cleveland baseball fan.

Speaker 2 (25:59):
Yeah, don't don't. No, I mean, you've already tainted football.

Speaker 3 (26:02):
For me. This's not do baseball.

Speaker 1 (26:03):
And they're allowed to just be sports fans. Dude, if
you got offer tickets or you could afford to go.

Speaker 2 (26:07):
I'm okay, well listen, that's fine, But I mean, thinking about.

Speaker 1 (26:10):
It, you're mad at Fox. Get mad at Fox. They're
the ones controlling the cameras. They just went to a game.
They didn't call Fox up and say, hey, we're sitting
in Sweet one forty one. Make sure you get a
shot of us. That's on the coin.

Speaker 3 (26:20):
Someone new, someone got word.

Speaker 2 (26:22):
Maybe a publicist said, hey, listen, Travison and Taylor coming
to a game.

Speaker 3 (26:27):
Oh really? Yeah? Where where they sit?

Speaker 2 (26:30):
It?

Speaker 1 (26:30):
Right?

Speaker 3 (26:31):
Right?

Speaker 1 (26:31):
You can be in a switet you know too, from
the Yankees owners or whatever it may be.

Speaker 3 (26:34):
The next thing is gonna happen on NBA games.

Speaker 1 (26:37):
Is sorts courts out of the garden, watching the caves
and Donovan Mitchell against the Knicks.

Speaker 2 (26:43):
But man, I'm all for everyone expressing their love, but sometimes, man,
it's a baseball game, Dude, it gets too much. Man
justs being too much. Man, enough is enough.

Speaker 1 (26:54):
They're just trying to live their lives. I mean they're
in a suite too. It's not like they're sitting behind
home plate.

Speaker 2 (26:59):
Well okay, so how many times that we've seen their
celebrities and suites that they're flashing the camera in this week?

Speaker 1 (27:06):
A lot? Not that much every game Roger Goodell's at
we see whatever, sweet he's anymoy oh he's sitting with
jay Z or what. I understand if they're on their own,
but we also it's mostly in LA and New York.
I haven't seen tonight if they've shown anyone. But I
get it that we're not seeing every time, like, let's say,
Chauncey Billups comes to the Broncos game. Huge Broncos fan

(27:28):
odds are CBS or Fox unless they caught him on
the field prere they're not cutting to the suite or yes, no,
they're not cutting this week.

Speaker 3 (27:34):
I get that.

Speaker 1 (27:34):
So, speaking of Chauncey Billups, one of the biggest Broncos
fans that you and I know. He took his rightful
place in Springfield and the Nate Smith Basketball Hall of Fame.
He had been eligible for a couple of years, but
joins the class that featured Vince Carter, among others. I
got to sit through and watch his speech. He thanked
everybody under the sun that meant something to him in

(27:55):
his basketball career. Thank Denver talked about Colorado, talked about
putting Colorado on the map as a as a college
basketball per choosing to go there for Ricardo Patton and
you know when he could have gone to some bigger schools,
and it was just it was cool to see mister
big shot, who is one of his last thank yous
was a Tyron Lube who he said he talked to
the coach for twenty five years, have been telling him
to be a coach. He's one of his best friends.

(28:16):
He goes four things. You're gonna gain some weight, You're
gonna lose it, You're gonna lose a lot of sleep.
I'm forgetting one other thing. But the final thing was
and you're absolutely gonna love it. And he's like, all
those things are true, and he's like, and I love it.
And he thanked Jody Allen, Paul Allen's sister for taking

(28:38):
the chance on him and riding with them through what's
been a couple rough years to start, and I don't
know how long the leash is there in Portland, but
it was cool to see mister big Shot in the
Hall of Fame where he certainly belongs as a big
part of those Pistons teams and a bunch of All
Star games, and we did with the Nuggets on their
playoff runs here those a couple of years.

Speaker 2 (28:55):
Well, I think the city of Denver, especially park Hill,
it is one of their own and there are not
There are so many cities around the United States that
have athletes that go in and play college ball in the
pro game, but never reach that particular pinnacle. So for me,
that says a lot about Denver because when you think

(29:16):
about the national viewpoint on high school sports or even
college sports, the world is not looking at Denver as
being a hotbed of talent.

Speaker 1 (29:27):
No, it's certainly not a year over here like we
can pick up oh, Christian McCaffrey.

Speaker 3 (29:30):
Right right, right, right. So it's a handful of individuals.

Speaker 2 (29:34):
But for Chauncey to finally have his place amongst some
of the best to ever play in the NBA. That's
big for him, his family, those who coached him, those
who knew him. But for me, the first thing I
thought was that is big for the city of Denver
to kind of put the city of Denver pretty much
on a sports map.

Speaker 1 (29:54):
Yeah, certainly from a basketball perspective. Look jokers on their
NBA team, and we know what he he meant to
the Nuggets. Some other Nuggets greats that preceded him, whether
we're talking about not only Chauncey, but guys like Mellow
and before that, all those eighties teams with Alex English
among others, and David Thompson in the seventies. But Chauncey,
he he's Denver through and through, and he is aggravated
that the Rockies aren't winning, and he gets mad when

(30:16):
the Broncos don't win. He would have been at the
opener in Seattle, but he was at the US Open
he so he wouldn't able to make it to the
opener there and obviously his team didn't win. So I
guess that saved him one night of anguish. Ohtho, I'm
sure he's yelling at the TV in New York. But
the biggest thing is the way he's given back and
helped grow the game of basketball here. He's got the

(30:37):
Chauncey Billups Basketball, the port of Billips Basketball Academy, even
the Chauncey Billups Elite. When Chauncey was in high school,
and because when did you graduate ninety four? Five high school? Nay? Three?
How old are you?

Speaker 3 (30:50):
You're so old?

Speaker 1 (30:50):
I'm getting ninety two. I know I got you in
ninety six. When'd you graduate ninety two? No?

Speaker 2 (30:56):
Man, I graduated in ninety one, ninety one.

Speaker 1 (30:59):
Anyway, he had to go play. He had to go
play au ball. He had to go play au ball
in the Bay Area or in Soca with those guys.

Speaker 3 (31:06):
Yeah.

Speaker 1 (31:06):
Now, these Colorado teams are making a difference. So we
got to get out of here right now as we're
up against it. He's Nick Ferguson. Thanks to Shannon Scott
sam in promotion. Thank you for listening. For Benjamin Albright,
I'm Brandon Christall and we appreciate sproncos Country Tonight from
Sporty Pickle Bar and Grill on KOA eight fifty A
M and ninety four to one FM.
