Speaker 1 (00:00):
Nick, I got to carry over some conversation from the
Can't Wait Sports show where you were. I'm telling us
you get all your hot dogs and from Whole Foods.

Speaker 2 (00:10):
Lizzy, Yeah, what's the well you get?

Speaker 3 (00:14):
Okay, so you get like six hot How much does
hot dogs cost you?

Speaker 1 (00:17):
Because you're you're like the the anti knee when it
comes to buying hot dogs.

Speaker 3 (00:20):
I get the thirty pack for a dollar.

Speaker 2 (00:22):
Or whatever it is over there at Uh, you know
that is obsessive.

Speaker 1 (00:27):
And then how do you do I skipped the hot
dog buns all together. I go get the eighty nine
cent loaf of wheat bread and just roll them up
in there.

Speaker 2 (00:34):
No, no, I don't do that, okay.

Speaker 1 (00:37):
And the only thing I put on here is said
that the golden spicy brown mustard, Like that's it?

Speaker 3 (00:41):
Then that is that is the entire That's the entire
meal right there.

Speaker 4 (00:45):
Okay.

Speaker 2 (00:45):
So I've reached the point in my life where I
have to read the back of packages.

Speaker 4 (00:50):
I have to read the Ingrey.

Speaker 1 (00:52):
Do you slide the glasses down your noses?

Speaker 3 (00:54):
You're doing this seriously? Do you have the you have
the duel to buy focal there so you can just
look right through.

Speaker 2 (00:59):
I look because I gotta check the sugar content.

Speaker 4 (01:03):
I have to check the carb content.

Speaker 3 (01:06):
I mean, it's not sugar, carbs and badogs.

Speaker 4 (01:09):
That's your protein. I'm talking about the buns.

Speaker 2 (01:12):
You said the eighty nine cents, but I get I
get the.

Speaker 3 (01:14):
I don't even get the buns. I get the wheat bread.

Speaker 4 (01:16):
I go get the.

Speaker 1 (01:18):
Store brand we eighty nine cent loanful wheat Breadok.

Speaker 2 (01:21):
Man, I gotta check, uh try glycerides and all of that.

Speaker 5 (01:24):
Man.

Speaker 2 (01:24):
That that's that's where I am made the spell trickstride.
I'm not at the point I was several years ago
where you could just eat anything.

Speaker 4 (01:32):
Yeah, like like you, I am still at that point.

Speaker 3 (01:35):
Yes, no, I mean my midsection. We tell me that
I can't do it, but I still do it anyway, right, Grant.

Speaker 2 (01:39):
And I have watched you just kind of just child
down so many things. I think Grant is most sickened.

Speaker 1 (01:45):
That day I brought in the fifteen tacos from Taco Bell.

Speaker 4 (01:49):
I was like, is he still eating?

Speaker 3 (01:50):
Just one ride after another, just putting them away.

Speaker 2 (01:52):
And I was wondering where is he putting this stuff?

Speaker 4 (01:56):
Because I was like here, I was like, waity for.

Speaker 2 (01:58):
Is he eat, taking these and sticking them in the
bag to flour because I was like, where are you
stuffing this stuff?

Speaker 1 (02:04):
Well, I mean speaking of hot dogs. Is not the
only Arnold Palmer here. So five six, six nights zero
is the text I got. Thursday Night Football coming up tonight,
Minnesota Vikings, La Rams.

Speaker 3 (02:13):
Big Show tonight, BKA gonna.

Speaker 1 (02:15):
Be live down there at Bowl Arena opening night for
the Denver Nuggets. We've got Rick Lewis gonna join us
here a bottom of the hour talk a little bit
about the forthcoming game against Carolina Panthers this weekend jam
Pack show tonight.

Speaker 3 (02:28):
But Thursday Night Football.

Speaker 1 (02:29):
This one's fascinating because if you'd watch this before the
season started, I don't think you would have predicted this
to be the way that it is.

Speaker 3 (02:36):
With the Vikings.

Speaker 1 (02:38):
Out to the red hot start, the Rams been dealing
with injuries, and they're talking about being sellers here at
the deadline, and there were a couple of rumors out there,
one that they were shopping Stafford, which I know is malarkey,
but the Cooper.

Speaker 3 (02:48):
Cup rumor is is legitimately true. They are shopping him.

Speaker 1 (02:52):
At this point, you're supposed to get pooking to Kula
back tonight, although on a pitch count, you know, is
this fascinates me because I did not expect the Vikings
to be as good as they are this year.

Speaker 2 (03:02):
Well, I think a lot of people felt that way
because JJ McCarthy was drafted by the Minnesota Vikings that
would presume the quarterback of the future.

Speaker 4 (03:11):
And I think when.

Speaker 2 (03:12):
You think about what the Vikings are gonna have to
deal with, is dare I say, do they.

Speaker 4 (03:19):
Have a quarterback controversy?

Speaker 2 (03:20):
And I'm gonna say yes because Sam Donald, a guy
who years ago said he was seeing ghosts when he
was playing in New England Patriots, he has performed amorably
and no one anticipated his level of connection and how
well they were going to do. And I guess the
other part to add to that band was the fact that,
well you look at what Brian Flores is doing with
that defense. Now.

Speaker 4 (03:41):
Over the past couple of.

Speaker 2 (03:42):
Weeks, it seemed as though they have giving up some
points that they didn't give up early in the first half,
but Donald was healthy. They have Jordan Anderson. Amon Jones
was said to not be available to the Vikings last week,
but he played. So when you look at the arsenal
that they do have, and when TJ. Howkinson comes back,
that is going to just open up that offense even more.

Speaker 1 (04:03):
Yeah, I think about the Brian Flores portional. It is
certainly fascinating to me because if it wasn't for Vance Joseph,
he would be sir blitz a lot baby got sacks
when it comes to how often they bring pressure on
the quarterback. But Vance Joseph fared away out in front
in terms of the pressure Ray Brian Flores is in second.

Speaker 2 (04:21):
Well, look at how both of those guys scheme their defense.
It looks early familiar both of those guys, both Vance
and Brian Flores.

Speaker 4 (04:31):
They like to put a lot of.

Speaker 2 (04:32):
Guys at the line of scrimmage, forced not just the quarterback,
but the offensive line to know exactly where they want
to call protection. And once he gets a beat on that,
he now reverses that and use whatever stretch that they
thought they had maybe in a first quarter or the
second second half against them. And that's the one thing
that I love, because they bring players up to the

(04:54):
line of scrimmage and you may see seven guys and
the offensive linemen they're used to counting a guy maybe
on a second level saying well, okay.

Speaker 4 (05:02):
Well here's a Mike linebacker.

Speaker 2 (05:04):
But now you have no guys on the second level.
All those guys are at the line of scrimmage and
you don't know who's coming and who's dropping. And that
is something that you know, really jacks up the protection
because think about if a quarterback is in a shotgun
and the back is set up to his right hand side,
you see seven guys in the line of scrimmage, where
are you sliding protection? Where are you sending that running back?

(05:26):
So it forces everyone to work in unison's together and
if you're not, your quarterback is going to get hit
or he's going to be forced in making the air throw.

Speaker 1 (05:34):
Yeah, and that's you know, I mean sim pressure, disguising
what you're doing, sugar in the a gaps and dropping people.
But that's all part of the gamesmanship as far as
kind of stuff goes.

Speaker 3 (05:43):
But that's that has been I think for Flores and Vance.

Speaker 1 (05:46):
Joseph to hyper blitzers this year, how they are able
to continue to get away with those high rates of
doing that because if they can figure out where it's
coming from and you guys are out on an island,
if that pressure does not get home.

Speaker 3 (06:00):
You're cooked.

Speaker 2 (06:01):
Well, here's the best way to really explain it, because
when Larry Corey was our defensive coordinator in the years
I was here with the Denver Broncos, reran that against
several teams and they created a lot of issues because
if you've run press coverage, now the quarterback can look
to say, well, here's the matchup by want and just

(06:21):
moonball and just throw it up in the air. But
if you sit your guys off maybe eight, nine, maybe
ten yards like we would do, and just have those
guys sitting inside taking away the slant route, and if
you're gonna beat me, you're gonna beat me on a
double move. And if you beat those corners on a
double move, that wasn't on them, that was based on
the call and the defense not getting home. So I

(06:42):
love the idea of both what Floris is doing and
I love what Vance is doing because it creates chaos
and all you need to do is have corners who
understand how.

Speaker 4 (06:52):
To read routes as they develop.

Speaker 2 (06:55):
Now you can sit out there and watch a quarterback
throw a slant and you can just jump it.

Speaker 4 (07:00):
So I love that whole idea, what they're doing.

Speaker 1 (07:02):
Who you have tonight between the Vikings and the Rams.

Speaker 2 (07:06):
Well, I'm gonna take the Vikings. I know, pool them.
The cool is coming back and so this Coopa Cup
both dynamic receivers. But remember they're coming back off of injury.
For me, conditioning is always a factor, and I find
Brian Flores, I'm gonna put those things to a test.

Speaker 4 (07:20):
Yeah, because when you think about.

Speaker 2 (07:21):
Pooka and you think about Coopa Cup, I mean they
have average speed, but they're not going to outrun you.
Some ideas, keep everything in front of you, and then
looking at the defense that Flores plays with. To me, man,
you can mix the match and run some inside outside
stunts and make life miserable for the quarterback.

Speaker 1 (07:38):
For the Los Angeles Ramps, I might get out of
my comfort zone a little bit, play a little too
deep and jam them up front earlier. Like you talked
about the conditioning, jam them up front early, see if
I can see what we can do early with that
and see if that affects anything before going back to
what we do is our base is our bread and butter.
I also am on the Vikings in this one. Although
you know Rams and Homer dangerous football team. Sean mcvagh
certainly knows the offense, knows the scheme. Here is Kevin

(08:01):
O'Connell off his tree.

Speaker 4 (08:03):
But here's the other thing too, here's the flip side
to that coin. Well.

Speaker 2 (08:06):
As much as McVeigh knows O'Connor, O'Connor knows him as well,
and he knows Matthew Stafford a guy who he wants coached,
so he knows what gives Matthew Stafford issues.

Speaker 4 (08:18):
So maybe he might have.

Speaker 2 (08:21):
Said to Brian Flores, hey, listen, these are the things
when I was coaching with the Rams that we used
to go over every single week that proved to be
problematic for the Rams. And oh, by the way, there's
no Aaron Donald to save them defensively, So now here's
what you need to do to create issues for their team.
And also knowing that Matthew Stafford isn't a guy who
is going to pull the ball down and run if

(08:43):
there's nothing down the field. So now if he's at
eight yards, he's going to be right there at eight
yards when you get there.

Speaker 3 (08:49):
Yep, I do I do have the edge to the
vikings in this one.

Speaker 1 (08:52):
Looking forward to to watch in this one tonight. Broncos
have what we think is going to be an easier
test on Sunday in the Carolina Panthers. Bryce Young going
to be starting in this one. Andy Dalton's got the
spray and thumb and I.

Speaker 3 (09:11):
Went back and watched the tape.

Speaker 1 (09:13):
On Bryce Young form the couple of games, the first
two games this season, and it was worse than I thought.

Speaker 3 (09:19):
Worse worse than I thought.

Speaker 2 (09:21):
Wow.

Speaker 3 (09:22):
I mean the games too, you know.

Speaker 1 (09:24):
I talk about the game being too fast for bow Nicks,
The game is way too fast for Bryce Young just
doesn't see it.

Speaker 3 (09:29):
He's see it and throw it kind of guy.

Speaker 1 (09:32):
And the accuracy is suspect. He can't pick up a
few here or there with his legs, but it doesn't
seem decisive enough when it comes to those kinds of things.
It's just, you know, I don't know if this time
on the bench is has helped him out, has impacted
him in.

Speaker 3 (09:49):
The way that it should.

Speaker 1 (09:50):
But looking at the tape from the start of this season,
he's going to need significant improvement if he's going to
be a viable starter in this league.

Speaker 2 (09:58):
Well, significant improved, yes, And it's not just Bryce Young
that is a problem with the slow start to the season.
For it, for Dave Canalison his team, it's where your weapons, right,
I mean, tell tell me who your weapons are from
a tight end standpoint, your running back standpoint, and more importantly.

Speaker 4 (10:19):
Your wide receiver standpoint.

Speaker 2 (10:20):
Now, Trooper Hubbard has about five hundred and thirty seven
yards on the season and we're going into week seven.
I believe that's far beyond below the average for NFL
running backs. That may put him down near the bottom
of the pack. And known as though you have a
quarterback who is still running a new system, and albeit
Bryce Young maybe going into the second year.

Speaker 4 (10:43):
But he's still somewhat of a rookie.

Speaker 2 (10:45):
You need a running game that is going to provide
the adequate balance to give you play action, and right.

Speaker 4 (10:50):
Now he doesn't have that.

Speaker 2 (10:52):
And looking at the game, you know Sunday, obviously anything
can happen, but this still should be a game that
the Broncos should be able to win.

Speaker 3 (11:01):
Yeah, I agree with you on that.

Speaker 1 (11:03):
I want to hear what Rick Lewis thinks about that
and how you go into something like that and again
try to keep yourself up for it so you don't
look past it because We've talked about the three games that.

Speaker 3 (11:13):
Succeed that game. On the Broncos schedule.

Speaker 1 (11:16):
You've got Baltimore, You've got the Kansas City Chiefs, you
get to the Atlanta Falcons. That's so that's about as
tough a three game stretch as you can get in
the NFL.

Speaker 2 (11:22):
Well, the way that you if I'm coach Payton, the
way that I keep my team on the schedule is just.

Speaker 4 (11:28):
It's like baby steps.

Speaker 6 (11:30):
Right.

Speaker 2 (11:30):
Remember when we were toddling we learned to walk for
the first time. It's one foot in front of the
next one. We can't get to two weeks down the
row until we handle the business in front of us.
And if that is kind of the mentality, now you're
for a rude awakening at home because when you look
at the Broncos record at home, some of those games
are not that great. Now the Broncos, you know, when

(11:51):
you think about playoff purposes down the row, they've played
better away.

Speaker 4 (11:56):
From empower field that you have played at home.

Speaker 2 (11:59):
Now, now you can start a little a trend here
and you know, get your another win at home. But
once again, it's telling my team list a focus, let's
build on what we were able to do last last
Thursday in the walls and just kind of keep the
train moving. Uh.

Speaker 1 (12:14):
Some news coming out today Josh Reynolds slash Friday involved
in a bit of altercation, was shot at, grazed in
the head and uh and then took another woman there.

Speaker 3 (12:23):
But perfectly if I was a practice today.

Speaker 4 (12:24):
I mean a little altercation.

Speaker 1 (12:27):
I have I understelling on purpose. But you know, a
minor altercation. You know, getting shot at is.

Speaker 3 (12:33):
Never uh, never a minor altercation.

Speaker 1 (12:36):
But I I you know, thank goodness, he's okay, and
and you know what could have been as far as
that goes. It makes the second wide receiver uh to
to have been shot at this year Ricky Piersoll of
course for the forty nine ers getting ready to come
back as well. What do you make of the the
the I guess the spate of sort of violence and
some NFL players are experiencing or is it just coincidental?

Speaker 2 (13:01):
Well, for me in this case, it's coincidental because anything
can happen on the streets of Denver or anywhere USA.
The only thing is is that you just have to
keep your eyes abreast of what's going on, because like
for me, I grew up in Miami, and you know,
my father would always say that trouble will find you,

(13:21):
and sometimes going back to Miami, which is the reason
I don't go back that often. It just seemed like
I it would find me quicker in Miami, right, And
this is kind of an isolated situation. And I go
back to something Herman Ever used to say to me
when I was a member of the New York Jets
and when he first came from Tampa. And this is
kind of something that they preach down there with Tony Dungeon.

(13:44):
Nothing good happens after midnight. Now, I know that's hard
to say to players who are young, single and playing
in the NFL. And when you look at Denver in
comparison to other places I've lived Los Angeles, Atlanta, and
New York City, the nightlife is different.

Speaker 4 (14:01):
The night life is so different than here in Denver.

Speaker 2 (14:03):
And you're trying to find something to kind of, you know,
get into because the Broncos were on the Bible well
not official bye week, but come on here, the many boy.
And you know you don't want to be a hermer.
You want to get out, you want to be able
to do certain things. But now you have to be
conscious as to where you go, but more importantly, not
just be aware of where you are, but who's watching you.

Speaker 4 (14:27):
That's the way I look at the situation.

Speaker 1 (14:28):
Hypothetically, on the other side of this, the Broncos lose
to the Carolina Panthers.

Speaker 2 (14:33):
She'll say that, don't, don't don't.

Speaker 1 (14:35):
That's that's Bastphomyothetically, that's going to play both sides of
the Cointically, Hypothetically that occurs.

Speaker 3 (14:42):
What are we saying next week at that point, Well.

Speaker 2 (14:45):
The storyline would be the Broncos went big on Thursday
night and not showing enough maturity to.

Speaker 4 (14:53):
Handle the situation.

Speaker 2 (14:54):
And then the storyline is going to double back to
what happened to Josh Renolds.

Speaker 4 (15:00):
The team is not really focused, they're not.

Speaker 2 (15:02):
Really paying attention, there's no veteran leadership. I can see
that storyline being put out there right away. So this
is definitely a game that the Broncos should win, and
they better win because all the odds point in their favorite.
And I'm not talking about the ones in Vegas.

Speaker 3 (15:21):
Yeah, I mean, to me, it would have to be
how they lost.

Speaker 1 (15:25):
I mean, you'd have to have a spate of injuries
or something like that to make that seem salvageable. I
guess at that point if they if they take you know,
they go blow for blow with the Panthers and they
just lose, that says that our look at our eyes
and looking at this team have been off on something.

Speaker 6 (15:40):
Well.

Speaker 2 (15:40):
For me, I look at it this way, Ben, I've
already kind of marked it down as the Broncos win.

Speaker 4 (15:46):
Now here's the other thing too.

Speaker 2 (15:47):
A loss would be bad, but a close victory I
view that as being bad as well, because for me,
and you can tell me what you think about this,
I see this as a game where starting off, the
Broncos should be Carolina by fourteen points with the potential
for it to be twenty.

Speaker 4 (16:05):
Yeah.

Speaker 6 (16:06):
Right.

Speaker 2 (16:06):
If this is a close game that comes down to
Will Lutt's last second field goal, that's not a good.

Speaker 3 (16:12):
Thing, right right.

Speaker 6 (16:14):
Yeah.

Speaker 1 (16:14):
No, I'm pretty sure I predicted like a twenty one
point win for Denver in this one. I had to
submit my prediction to Anthony so you could get up
for the graphics on Sunday. But yeah, I mean, just
looking at this today, I came at it from the
opposite side of the coin. I'm like, all right, We've
been talking about how this should be a win all week,
but what happens if it doesn't? Like what would have
to go wrong for this to turn into a loss

(16:36):
for the Denver Broncos.

Speaker 2 (16:37):
I mean that the worst possible situation they one can imagine.
That's multiple guys getting injured, right, and now you're going
back to your second and either your third team, and
then that would be an utter disaster. But I don't
see a scenario.

Speaker 4 (16:58):
And I don't have a Crystal ball, but I don't
see a scenarian. No, you can't. You can't get those
whose foods. But I don't have a Christal Ball.

Speaker 2 (17:11):
But I don't foresee a situation that takes place where
the Broncos are so beat up in Sunday's game, where
they're playing with second and thirteen guys and the Panthers
keep it closed and ultimately win the game.

Speaker 4 (17:26):
I don't see a scenario.

Speaker 2 (17:29):
I can see the Broncos starting off slow, possibly, but
I don't see a scenario where the Broncos lose.

Speaker 4 (17:35):
To the Panthers. If you see something else, please explain
it to me.

Speaker 1 (17:38):
Yeah, I mean I don't like, there's not anything that
jumps out at me and going back and look at
the tape, I was even more convinced than I was before.

Speaker 3 (17:45):
I just don't want to.

Speaker 1 (17:46):
Be I don't want to be caught nap and you know,
looking ahead to a murderers row as.

Speaker 3 (17:51):
It were in Baltimore Kansas City in a lout.

Speaker 1 (17:53):
Like I said that that three game stretch is about
as tough as you can ask for in the NFL.

Speaker 4 (17:57):
To share it is definitely very help.

Speaker 2 (18:00):
But this is why the emphasis on every single player
has to be Let's go out and win this game.
Let's keep this momentum going because you're gonna need that momentum,
especially going on the row and back to back weeks
and then coming back home facing Kirk Cousins and then
the return of Justin Simmons. You want to make sure
that you at least if you can with the game,

(18:21):
the game between Baltimore and Kansas City. If you can
get both of those, great, But if you can get
one of those.

Speaker 3 (18:29):
I'll take it, okay.

Speaker 1 (18:30):
I As I look at this, I I just want
to make sure I'm not going int overconfident, because I've
done that before.

Speaker 3 (18:36):
You know, where you're super confident about something and then
you're like, man, did I have the wrong read on this?

Speaker 1 (18:40):
But we'll get a chance to ask the color analyst
of the Denver Broncos.

Speaker 3 (18:43):
That's Rick Lewis. A chance to ask him about that deck,
mister Broncos Country night right here on Kiawah. Let's going
to the Kiaway cosper at a hotline.

Speaker 1 (18:50):
No, and bring on your color analyst to the Denver Broncos,
Rick Lewis, Rick, are you know in the evening?

Speaker 5 (18:55):
Hey, I'm doing good, but I gotta say I am
so disappointed here that my hero Nick Ferguson eats hot dogs.
Come on, Nick, tell me.

Speaker 3 (19:07):
Bro we both eat hot dogs.

Speaker 1 (19:08):
He gets the bougie ones though from Whole Foods.

Speaker 3 (19:11):
He can't eat the common man hot dog. Like I
get the thirty pack for a dollar.

Speaker 1 (19:15):
This guy's over here getting six hot dogs for twenty bucks.

Speaker 6 (19:19):
I don't care how boogie the hot dog is.

Speaker 5 (19:21):
It's still pick snouts and ears and tails and hooks
on a bun basically with some mustard on it. I
can't believe you're a hot dog guy, Nick, I'm so disappointed.

Speaker 4 (19:33):
Listen.

Speaker 2 (19:33):
It's not something I do all the time, But do
you eat the kosher hot dogs on occasion, it's not
he eats.

Speaker 1 (19:40):
The kosher was I'll eat the gentile hot dogs.

Speaker 4 (19:42):
I don't care.

Speaker 1 (19:43):
Just just shove it down my throw, put it on
a piece of bread with all him a spicy mustard,
and shove it down.

Speaker 3 (19:47):
I'm gonna go.

Speaker 5 (19:50):
All right, Well, I'm gonna have to uh, I'm gonna.

Speaker 6 (19:53):
Have to forgive you. But it did hurt me a
little bit.

Speaker 1 (19:58):
Well, I don't think the Bronx go was necessarily in
a danger of being hurt this week. And although we
could be reading it wrong, I guess Carolina Panther has
not exactly been.

Speaker 3 (20:06):
The bastion of quality football this season.

Speaker 1 (20:08):
Bryce Young gonna be the starter instead of the red
rifle Andy Dalton as we look at this game, how.

Speaker 3 (20:13):
Are you reading this thing?

Speaker 1 (20:14):
Because I've gone for full circle where I talk myself
into a huge Broncos win and now I'm on the
back side of that, like a what if we lose?

Speaker 5 (20:22):
Well, I do think they catch a break without Andy Dalton.
I think Bryce Young is a guy that looked pretty
bad last year, and I think he looked even worse
the first two games of this year. Now that being said,
you know, he's a mobile quarterback. He's got big arm talent,
he's got first pick in the draft talent. But you know,

(20:46):
he's been in a bad situation there at Carolina last
year with Frank Reich, and I think his confidence is shattered.
We'll see on Sunday how that goes. But I am
a little bit concerned about a trap game.

Speaker 6 (21:00):
I have to tell you that.

Speaker 5 (21:01):
You know, with the two road games coming up against
Baltimore and Kansas City, it is a little bit of
a concern. And also coming off the mini bye week.
A lot of times we see teams that come off
a bye week or a mini bye week, they're a
little flat, start the game a little slow. We could
maybe see that on Sunday. But that being said, I

(21:25):
think this coaching staff is so good on the Denver
Broncos that they won't let that happen. And if it does,
if they do come out flat, they'll make all the
adjustments they need to make to beat a bad Panthers
team in Bryce Young because the Broncos got allowed to
play for now, you know, nobody thought this team would

(21:45):
be four and three going into Week eight. They beat
the Panthers. I mean, they're a pretty good playoff position
at that point. I hate to even mention playoffs halfway
through the season, but the Broncos have a lot to
play for. The Panthers do not Bryce Young, as I
mentioned first picking the draft talent. If they just let

(22:05):
this guy just maybe just start slinging the ball all
over the field, who knows what happens. But I do
think the Broncos win by double digits.

Speaker 2 (22:15):
Well, Rick, with that being said, what has been the
most impressive thing that you've seen from the Broncos. It
doesn't necessarily have to be offensive defensively, but he could
be collectively, what's been that thing that you've seen? And
it makes you go, you know what?

Speaker 4 (22:29):
This team?

Speaker 2 (22:30):
Every single time I watch them, they do something that
gives me some kind of hope.

Speaker 5 (22:36):
Yes, the defense, you know, we've been talking about that
all year and we knew going into the season. At
least I thought the defense would keep them in every
game and that's been the case. And not just the
defense generally speaking, but that pass rush man. If they're
at a pace to break the franchise record for sacks,

(22:58):
if they keep doing that at this level, which I
don't know why they wouldn't, they could break the franchise
record that was set back in nineteen eighty four. The
amount of pressure and the sacks that they're getting on
quarterbacks has been so impressive. And part of that, as
you guys know, is they're so much better in the
back end of.

Speaker 6 (23:18):
That defense too, you know.

Speaker 5 (23:20):
So quarterbacks they have nobody to throw to, they're hanging
out of the ball too long, and these guys are
getting after them. So to me, that's been the story
of this football team up to this point. And if
bo Nicks can develop and get better and maybe play,
you know, in the first quarter like he does in

(23:42):
the fourth quarter, we might have something here.

Speaker 6 (23:45):
You know.

Speaker 5 (23:45):
I think this team's got a pretty damn good shot
to be in the playoffs this year, and they definitely
have to win Sunday against a bad Panthers team.

Speaker 3 (23:57):
Yeah, they do get after the quarterback quite a bit.

Speaker 1 (23:59):
Again, as we opened the segment, I call advance Joseph
sir blitz a lot.

Speaker 3 (24:02):
Maybe got sacks.

Speaker 1 (24:03):
But I think that if we were looking at this defense,
one thing we got to keep our eye on this
weekend is passer Tan coming back off the concussion. I've
been of the opinion that you may want to rest
him a little bit, maybe not have him out there
as much, especially with those three big games coming up.
Two road games Baltimore, Kansas City, a home game against Atlanta.

Speaker 3 (24:21):
That's sort of a murders Row schedule right there.

Speaker 1 (24:23):
You're gonna want your best player to be in tip
top four for those games.

Speaker 5 (24:27):
Yeah, you know what, I think. I'm okay with that too, Ben.
That appeared like it was a pretty serious concussion that
he suffered early in that game, And I'm okay sitting
him out another week just to make sure he's right,
because he's your best player and you want to make
sure you have this guy for the rest of the
season and if they do have a shot at the playoffs.

(24:50):
And I thought Levi Wallace played pretty well. I think
Levi Wallace is a solid veteran cornerback. Riley Moss on
the other sides, played at a very high leve level,
So I agree with you. I'm okay at PS two
such as what happened?

Speaker 2 (25:06):
So what do you make of the name of Broncos
offensive line only giving up nine sacks this season when
we look a year ago it was double digit sacks.
Are we under valuing the Broncos offensive line.

Speaker 6 (25:21):
I think there's a couple of things going on.

Speaker 5 (25:24):
Yeah, the Broncos offensive line is better than we thought,
not only better than we thought, deeper than we thought.
There's some depth on that offensive line. We've seen backups.

Speaker 6 (25:35):
Come in and play.

Speaker 5 (25:37):
Solid, starting with Pelchwski. I thought Matt Peartz played pretty
well when he got a chance to play right tackle
for sights and centers been solid. So this offensive line
is playing better this year than they were last year.
But part of that too is bon Nicks. You know
bone Nicks. It's fourth in the league and rushing on quarterbacks.

(26:01):
I don't think anybody saw that coming. I mean, we
knew he was a good athlete. We knew he was
a mobile quarterback, but I don't think we knew he
was a dual threat quarterback. And I think we're going
to start seeing them that run more designed play for him,
designed runs for bon Nicks, because that's his biggest weapon

(26:22):
at this point. And it also gives him a chance
to figure things out in the passing game and just
settle down a little bit. And so those two things combine,
the mobility of bon Nicks and the improvement of the
offensive line is why they're not getting him on the
ground and let's hope he keep that y.

Speaker 4 (26:39):
I agree with you.

Speaker 3 (26:40):
I agree with you, Rick.

Speaker 1 (26:41):
I think you know, if we're talking about Vans Joseph
Baby got Sacks as his theme music, maybe bon Nicks
is Bow earned to run in terms of what we
need to see out of him coming up this week.

Speaker 3 (26:52):
Looking forward to hearing you.

Speaker 1 (26:53):
And Dave Logan on the call, and always appreciate you
checking in.

Speaker 5 (26:56):
Brother sounds good guys. We'll see at the stadium on Sunday.
Thanks for having me on.

Speaker 3 (27:01):
Take care.

Speaker 1 (27:01):
Rick lollis color analyst of the Denver Broncos joining us
there and yeah, I'm I'm I'm with him. We need
to see Bonex run on the ball a little bit more.
I'd like to see him doing a little more early.

Speaker 2 (27:10):
Well that that's kind of one of the things that
I talked about last week following the Thursday night game.

Speaker 4 (27:17):
When something is working, the best thing to do is
keep your foot on the gas.

Speaker 2 (27:20):
Pedal and keep it moving and you don't necessarily being
have to run the same play, but getting Bow on
the move maybe a design quarterback run or because teams
now figures though Bow is going to run, you can
build the play that looks like bo is going to run.
Now you throw a pass off of it. And the
reason why I said that because there's a guy that

(27:42):
I played with. You might have heard of him by
name of Jake the stake Plumber, and I recall that name, yes,
And Jake was great with those boot keep plays.

Speaker 4 (27:52):
And it was like a half roll.

Speaker 2 (27:54):
He stops at the hash and then he's launching the
ball down the field to either Absolute the League or
Rod Smith. But it was set up because they would
run actual run play and either Ashley or Rod would
go block the safety. So the next time they were
running again, he would run up to the safety and
the safety was stopping his feet because he then gets
a run play. Now he get chop his feet like

(28:16):
two steps and then take off.

Speaker 4 (28:19):
This is the evolution of.

Speaker 2 (28:21):
What the Broncos offense could be because we have a
mobile quarterback.

Speaker 1 (28:25):
Yeah, and you know, I love when you could build
off concepts like them.

Speaker 3 (28:30):
Five six six zeros text. I'm gonna check in with
Brendan Kristall.

Speaker 1 (28:33):
In the next hour see what what's going on down
there at ball Arenas.

Speaker 3 (28:37):
It's opening nights for the Denver Nuggets.

Speaker 1 (28:40):
Oklahoma City oh yes, So get a chance to check
in with him here in a little bit as well.

Speaker 3 (28:46):
Obviously we're here at Sam's Number three in.

Speaker 1 (28:48):
Glendale Thursday night football Minnesota Vikings taking on the La
Rams fourteen seven Vikings. In that one, Nick as we uh,
as we look look at this game, I think yet
I both noticed these offenses playing and doing something a
little bit of stuffing.

Speaker 3 (29:04):
We wish the Broncos we'll do a little bit more.
Let's play with tempo.

Speaker 2 (29:07):
Yeah, tempo is very vital, and it's important whether it's
at home or on the road, but specifically being here
with the altitude, you want to jump out with those
first twenty plays that we typically hear a bur coaches
scripting those plays.

Speaker 4 (29:28):
It gives you an.

Speaker 2 (29:28):
Opportunity to see where your offense is, but also it
sets the tone for the remaining of the game because
you can see what the defense on the opposite side,
how quickly are they responding. And then also you might
have an opportunity to get a cheap touchout right because
communication breaks down. But more important, you know, just fatigue
sets in.

Speaker 4 (29:49):
And now I can tell you you.

Speaker 2 (29:51):
Know, as a former player, that first drive, even though
I would we practice here in Denver. That was always
difficult because you're trying to get that first win. But
if you go timp with your offense, you're actually helping
the quarterback and more importantly, you helping the offensive line.

Speaker 4 (30:07):
Yeah, and I think you.

Speaker 1 (30:07):
Could pair that'd be one of the one of the opportunities.
And to pair a little bit of motion in there too,
prestam motion because uh, you know, as we just talking
about with you, we talked about with Steve is anytime
you get motion, you got some defender back there, somebody
down on defense don't where they're supposed to be, right, Absolutely,
and so if you could he can play at tempo.
And that's already gassing your decision making matrix because you're
not drawing oxygen, your brain's not working at optimal levels.
And then you turn around throw a little pre snap

(30:29):
motion in there, and then all of a sudden you
got people in it.

Speaker 3 (30:31):
And I'm just saying you have to do that all game.

Speaker 1 (30:33):
But but doing that on an opening drive or doing
it in spurts every once in a while, uh, certainly
can can have a net positive effect on an offense.

Speaker 2 (30:42):
Absolutely, Again, because the game is about establishing some form
of momentum. Do you want the defense to be able
to do that? Because the reason I say that is
because if you don't establish that rhythm right away.

Speaker 4 (30:55):
Now what throws you off?

Speaker 2 (30:56):
Because opposing defensive coordinator, he can line guys up the
line of scrimmage like we watched Vance do to other teams.
You watch Brian Flores due to other team. You want
to do something to back them out of that game plan,
something to make them think, make them pause. And the misdirection,
the preset motion, all of those things are key and

(31:17):
they're vital because, as I can tell you, defensive players
don't always communicate right.

Speaker 4 (31:24):
And Steve talked about it.

Speaker 2 (31:25):
He was just like the time when he played, you
will see a guy on the film. He's pointing. He's
not saying the word, he's pointing. So when you go
back and watch film, he can tell the coach and
the coach asked, well, what are you doing on this
particular play, Well, you see me pointing, telling what you
didn't say a darn thing. That's kind of the idea.
But you want to create some kind of manufacture confusion, right,

(31:46):
and that's what it typically does well.

Speaker 1 (31:48):
And that's the thing I mean, we see that both
sides of the football, and in fact, that's what you're
trying to do.

Speaker 3 (31:51):
We talked about it earlier.

Speaker 1 (31:52):
You talked about earlier when you're disguising what it is
that you're bringing in terms of pressure, trying to create
confusion for the offense, and the offense try to create
confusion for the defense. He im saying this guy this way,
but the play might be going this way. You know,
run action, play action, bluot action, whatever you got going
on there. And so you know, I just I tend
to wonder why we don't use to want to built
in advantage that we have here in Denver, and that

(32:14):
is the altitude to get people hit, people gassed on
that first drive and pay dividends throughout a game.

Speaker 2 (32:19):
Well, well, for the love of me, I can't really
explain that. I would love to say that I do
have an answer. But Sean Payton, I guess he has
his way of doing things. He has his own game plan,
and that game plan may not.

Speaker 4 (32:35):
Require for the team to be able to do it.

Speaker 2 (32:36):
But I will say this based on what we saw
last Thursday night and how effective and efficient it was
in the game against the Saint Albeit it was against
the Saints.

Speaker 4 (32:49):
I would like to think that Sean Payton's gonna dip
his toe back into it.

Speaker 2 (32:53):
Well, why not until someone actually stops you and force
you to go to Plan B or C. Why not
keep using playing a and just kind of drive it
down your opponent's throat.

Speaker 1 (33:05):
I mean, I'm with it, I'm one of the I'm
with you on the I'm of the opinion that if
you're if you've got something that works, keep running it
until it doesn't work anymore. You know, it's not you
don't have to file that one away from later. Maybe
it's a passing concept. You might file it away for later.
But if you're running the ball and it's working, keep
doing it, and keep doing it, and keep doing There's
no mercy rule in the NFL.

Speaker 4 (33:25):
No, there's no mercy rule.

Speaker 2 (33:27):
And I liking it to this, Like I can go
to the store and buy Cambo's chicken suit.

Speaker 3 (33:33):
Do they have that?

Speaker 4 (33:33):
Whole Foods they have a version of.

Speaker 2 (33:38):
Have a version of, but you know nothing, Yes, nothing
beats Mom's homemade chicken noodle soup. So right now, even
though the Broncos were on the row, they was serving
up some hometown cooking in New Orleans. So why not
double down on it, sprinkle some extra spices in it,
and get it cooking here on Sunday.

Speaker 4 (33:59):
I'm with you.

Speaker 3 (33:59):
Bring it, bring that tasty jumbalaya.

Speaker 1 (34:01):
Back here, you know, and run down Carolina's throat.

Speaker 3 (34:05):
That's what I feel like we should be doing. I
feel like we should be doing that.

Speaker 1 (34:09):
The Carolina game may give you the opportunity to put
a few things on tape.

Speaker 3 (34:12):
You get a big enough lead, you may try a.

Speaker 1 (34:14):
Few things here or there. I wouldn't mind seeing some,
you know, a fun play or two. If you get
up big, let me rue you back in.

Speaker 2 (34:22):
Okay, we have to be really careful on these fun
plays that you're talking about.

Speaker 4 (34:27):
We're running its.

Speaker 1 (34:32):
Yeah, probably not so I have all all break for
Nick to try to talk me out of it. We
get to, hopefully bek when we come back. It's the
RACKUS country, not okay.

Speaker 6 (34:40):
