Speaker 1 (00:00):
Bring on our good friend romy Bean. Romy's over there
at CBS Roby.
Speaker 2 (00:03):
How you doing this evening?
Speaker 3 (00:04):
Oh?
Speaker 2 (00:05):
Doing great? Guys? Being relevant in November is a beautiful thing,
isn't it?
Speaker 1 (00:10):
Not just relevant but blowing folks out in November? The
CU Boss took on the utah Utes what is it?
Speaker 2 (00:18):
A what a you to?
Speaker 4 (00:19):
Hat?
Speaker 1 (00:20):
And then the Denver Broncos of course put it to
the Yeah, put it to the Atlanta Falcons. Interesting to
watch two different teams take two different pathways from devastating losses.
Is the utah Utes folded to the CU Boss, but
the Denver Broncos bounced back from a devastating loss from
the Kansas City Chiefs and managed to put it to Atlanta. Yeah.
Speaker 2 (00:38):
I mean, both of them were such fantastic winds. And
the crazy thing about almost some parallels is both of
them with incredible powerhouse offenses. But I don't think any
one of the beginning of the season would have said
that the hallmark of both the Denver Broncos and the
Colorado Buffaloes is the defense. I mean, the defense has
been so incredible. Look at the Broncos game. You play
(01:01):
thirty eight points on anybody with bo Nicks's performance. We
can go on and on and we should, but six
points not allowing a touchdown. I mean, this.
Speaker 3 (01:09):
Defense week in and week out continues.
Speaker 2 (01:12):
You know, they bounce back obviously, I know you got
the Ravens game, but really that one aside, they have
been so stellar all year. You gotta imagine they give
Sean Payton a lot of freedom to work with bon
Nicks and to try things that they don't work. It's
okay because you know the defense is going to hold.
And on the same token with the Bus defense, right,
sure throws a pick and what the defense do I mean,
(01:34):
Utah in the red zone they hold them to a
field goal. It happened later in the game too with
a fumble and then the Bus defense I think holds
them again. So it's with those short fields. So it's
really incredible.
Speaker 3 (01:46):
I feel like we love talking to offense and we should.
Speaker 2 (01:49):
Well, we got to give credit to both defenses because
they have been unbelievable all season long.
Speaker 4 (01:56):
Well, Romey, I'm glad that you actually brought that up.
Talking about the defense, Let's start with to see you
Buff's defense first before you join those.
Speaker 2 (02:05):
In earliest segments.
Speaker 4 (02:07):
We were talking about you know Levonte Bentley and Will Green,
and how impressive that those two linebackers have been for
seeing you and made the difference. What has stood out
to you when you watched that tandem?
Speaker 2 (02:19):
Oh man, they are just they're they're you know, he's
seeking missiles, those guys, and they are relentless and interesting
because both of them spoke after the game and they said, right,
they're the old guys in the room, and they take
it upon themselves to just you know, weake in and
week out, be a leader, set the tone and put
their you know, foot on their throats. All the words
you want, but I think a lot has to be
(02:40):
said about, you know, what Warren.
Speaker 3 (02:42):
Sapp has brought to that team.
Speaker 2 (02:44):
We all kind of wondered what kind of a coach
Warren Sapp was gonna be, and he has injected the
type of player that we all, you know, love to
watch Warren Sapp when he was a player in the NFL.
Speaker 3 (02:56):
That tenacity that truly at war.
Speaker 2 (02:59):
You see that right with the defensive front and bleeds
back into the linebacker and with coach Julu as well.
So I think the coaching this is such an incredibly
well coached Colorado team. They have really really challenged coaches,
and Warren taff has brought so much just energy, tenacity,
and these guys just soak it up, every last ounce
(03:20):
of it, and it's really fun to watch. They set
the tone and they really take pride in setting the
tone and being the anchor of that team.
Speaker 1 (03:29):
Talk about Roby Bean from CBS romy I think CU's
biggest challenge is this coming week. I think this Kansas
football team is the biggest challenge. A record might not
reflect it, but they're a very good football team. They've
won three of their last four coming off the buy
and the lone loss was a two point loss at
Kansas State. I see you fans are riding high right now,
getting the sort of the Utah thing off their back.
(03:49):
But at the end of the day, I think the
biggest challenge actually lies in front of them is the
road paved to the Big Twelve championship here.
Speaker 2 (03:59):
I mean, I think totally right. The craziest thing with
Colorado is I truly believe when Colorado's playing their best football,
they're the best team in the Big Twelve. But they
have to make sure they get out of their own
They can't get in their own way, right the silly penalties,
you know, unfortunate like penalties, things like that, taking you
back to back, you know, offensive holding calls, had those
(04:21):
kind of penalties. It can't make silly mistakes, you know,
controlling the clock, finishing, really finishing, a team stepping on
their throat. And that's something that I feel like we
have been wanting to see from this team. We saw
it in the fourth quarter against Utah. But like you
look at that Texas Tech game, right, they didn't close
it out. So that's something that Colorado has to do.
Speaker 3 (04:41):
And a team like Kansas is playing their best ball
in November, that's.
Speaker 2 (04:45):
Riding high as well, and they've been beating really good teams.
I totally agree with you. I think this is a
big test. I think Oklahoma State is a test because
it's a Friday Friday ten am game like that. That's
a tough one too, Friday ten am, right after things giving.
So you I've got things that could get in the way.
But I do believe that if Colorado's playing their best.
Speaker 3 (05:04):
Ball, they're the best team.
Speaker 2 (05:06):
In the Big Twelve. And the only thing that can
really get in the way is themselves, is them not
playing their best ball, is them taking their foot off
the gas against a team like Kansas that has shown
they are very dangerous, this is going to be a
fun matchup. They've got some great dvs. So a team
that cannot be taken lightly for sure.
Speaker 4 (05:23):
What also can't be taken lightly is bo Niggs and
his trajectory. When you look at bow Nigs in comparison
to so many other rookie quarterbacks.
Speaker 2 (05:34):
Around the league.
Speaker 4 (05:35):
I know his stock is really high, but what about
his game that has changed in your opinion from like
week once right now?
Speaker 2 (05:45):
Yeah, I mean, I think the craziest thing is the
speed at which he's made the progression. And you look
at go back to that Seattle game and you look
at some of these throws he's making and then making
similar frozen yesterday's game, and it's like a completely different person.
And the one thing in the off season, guys, right that.
Speaker 5 (06:02):
The coaches kept telling us he never makes the same
mistake twice, And you're, you know, you're like, okay, all right.
Speaker 2 (06:07):
Let's see it.
Speaker 3 (06:08):
But you really see this kid, weak in and week out,
just grow and.
Speaker 2 (06:12):
Improve from his any mistakes that you kind of saw
the week before. You can tell the game is really
starting to slow down for him. And I just think
when we went into this season, everybody kind of went.
Speaker 5 (06:23):
In and said, this is the year to see how
Bonus develops. This is playing for twenty twenty five, for
twenty twenty six, but his progression is coming at such
a fast rate. And now they are playing for twenty
twenty four and now.
Speaker 2 (06:36):
Playoffs absolutely are a realistic possibility. And I think a
lot of it has to speak to guys we'll go
over on between the years, right, I think that's something
you don't really know until you see them on the
NFL stage, and his maturity, all the stuff we speak about,
but he's I think he's special upstairs and that carry
can carry a quarterback a really long way. But even
(06:59):
go back the same game, right, we're really concerned about
his footwork, and look at his footwork now, I mean,
week in and week out. It's just so impressive how
quickly he's progressing. And it gives me a lot of
excitement for what the rest of this season could hold
and where he could be at the end of the season.
And we're talking about year one.
Speaker 1 (07:17):
We really are talking with romy Bean from CBS Roby
important question here probably the biggest question of the night.
Earlier in the show, we were talking about pasta sauce
and Nick Ferguson had no clue that you put basil
in pasta sauce? Are you and antis as Nick Ferguson is,
or do you put basil in the pasta sauce?
Speaker 2 (07:37):
I am an overspicy light, is what I am. I'm like, Oh,
let me get a cent of this, Oh a little
bit of that time. Oh, let's some time in there.
How about an oregano? Like I just I am as
you can tell with my sometimes, like my clothing, like
I'm always too extra, So I'm extra with.
Speaker 3 (07:52):
My sauces and I'll always put in one.
Speaker 2 (07:54):
Too many spices and then it just tastes really weird,
but I'll eat it anyway. But basil always goes in there.
I will tell you that.
Speaker 1 (08:01):
God wait, I just I needed to I need to
weigh in on that. I felt rejected twice after the basil.
Then I shared some of my broad cranberry pineapple juice
and for the guys to drink. Grant loved it. Nick,
it wasn't working for me. Still a Martinelli's man, I
couldn't move him off his apple juice.
Speaker 2 (08:16):
Okay, okay, Cranberry pineapple never had that.
Speaker 1 (08:18):
It goes great with vodka. Just say, I'm just putting
it out there. If you don't like it, sent it
right back.
Speaker 4 (08:23):
See, maybe that was the missing part of Ben's want
me to go get you some vodka? No no, no,
no no no. I don't then, because if that happened,
obviously the show would definitely go I'll go off the rails.
But Romie, well, you think about the Broncos running game.
(08:43):
That was something that was of a topic of coming conversation.
Coming into the Falcons game, we saw all the Estimate
get some carries, and it seemed as though going into
the game against the Falcons that he was a I
guess emerging as running back number one. Do you see
(09:04):
a scenario with six games remaining in the season that
Estimate actually takes over that role?
Speaker 2 (09:11):
You know, I think it's pretty clear that Audric Estimate
is Javonte Williams's successor. I think that Devant's had an
up and down season, but then he'll have games like
he had in yesterday against Atlanta, where you know, he's
still the veteran of the group and there's no reason
to replace him at this point. But I think the
writing's on the wall there, right, Audric is the future
(09:34):
in that department. You know he will replace.
Speaker 3 (09:37):
Javonte, But you know, you think about Odric and it's funny.
Speaker 2 (09:41):
I just had him on my show and he was
fantastic when we were talking about it, and I almost
kind of forgot right. He missed OTAs with an injury.
Then he goes on four games on IR after week one,
so he's had his progression has been flowed. So I
think that the way that we've see know him kind
of get utilized the last three weeks. It's now starting
to come into a picture, along with a.
Speaker 3 (10:02):
Lot of the other rookies as well.
Speaker 2 (10:04):
How big of a role that they could play. But
I think right now, you know, it doesn't make sense
since replace, so to speak, javontee just yet. But I
do agree that at some point, and sooner than later, right,
he will be the successor and eventually be that number one.
Speaker 1 (10:20):
With Roby being Romey, the Nuggets have been a disaster
without Nicola Jokic, and I don't think Jamal Murray has
adequately lived up to the contract that he signed. I mean,
if you're going to step in you've got to be
the guy when he's out. It just doesn't feel like
he has. I mean, obviously they've had Gordon out. I
felt like Porter has has sort of stepped up in
those roles at times, but not not really been consistent
(10:41):
with it. How sunk is this Nuggets team if Nikola
Jokic has gone for any extended period of time.
Speaker 2 (10:47):
I mean, like I don't hate to say this. I
say this all the time when we talk about Jokic,
and I always tell people they just enjoy this because
as soon as Nikola Jokic retires whenever that is, we're
talking about a differ Denver Nuggets team, right he he
makes this team a completely different team because he is
a once in a generation type of a player. He's
(11:08):
playing like an MVP, you know, as he goes to Denver,
Nuggets go and they're just simply an okay team without him,
you know, and there's talented player, sure, but without Nikoliokich,
this team is, you know, maybe scrapping to make the
playoffs like that. I think that's just an honest reality,
you know, with even with the rest of the talented guys.
(11:31):
So it's one of those things. It certainly makes you
appreciate it.
Speaker 3 (11:34):
This is why every year I'm like, you can't get hurt.
Speaker 2 (11:36):
You can't get hurt. This team just looks different, right,
because I mean, Yokich is a general out there, right,
so I obviously they've got.
Speaker 3 (11:42):
Game plans and this, that and the other. But you
can see how.
Speaker 2 (11:44):
Much he ad lobs for lack of a better world when.
Speaker 5 (11:48):
He's out there, how much he changes the game, how.
Speaker 2 (11:50):
Much he elevates every single player around him. Right, young
players don't look like the same young players when they're
on the court with and without nikolk.
Speaker 3 (11:59):
So that just is what it is.
Speaker 2 (12:01):
And I think Jamo Murray is you know, that's I
think a lot of Nuggets fans feel.
Speaker 3 (12:05):
Exactly how you said that. Jamal Murray kind of shows
up a lot of times in the playoffs. People wanted
to show up in the regular season.
Speaker 2 (12:11):
You got paid all this money. You know, you want
to be the guy being the guy. You want it,
You want it to be your team. You know, then
when Yokich is out elevate, make it your team.
Speaker 3 (12:22):
I think that's a common frustration that a lot.
Speaker 2 (12:24):
Of a lot of Nuggets fans have and really had
for a long time with Jamal.
Speaker 4 (12:28):
Well, you knows, sometimes when you leave an organization or
you leave a team, you figure out how much you
are appreciated. And you were out there yesterday and you
saw Justin Simmons. He was out there with his family,
but there were there were moments after the game where
you saw so many former former teammates rather and coaches
(12:50):
come out over to Justin to really kind of congratulate
him and validate him. What do you think that that
meant for him to know that his teammates and coaches
in his organization appreciating.
Speaker 2 (13:00):
Him that much. Yeah, that was so cool to see that.
Quite literally almost every single player. I mean there was
a line, right, guys were like waiting to go and
just and you just saw this line of guys, one
guy after the other, and coaches and everybody wanted to
get their chance to talk to Justin. And I think
that the game obviously didn't go the way that he
(13:23):
was hoping that it.
Speaker 3 (13:24):
Would go, you know, but for him, I think to
have that validation of how much.
Speaker 2 (13:29):
He means to those players, I mean, he raised a
lot of those guys, you know, in so many ways,
you know, Pat pj, all of these guys, you know,
even Riley, Like he taught them how to be outstanding
members of the community, and he did so much for
them of stuff that we will never see, right, And
so I thought it was so great for him to
(13:49):
get that kind of recognition, because you know how these
things go on the business side, you're out one day,
you don't really.
Speaker 3 (13:54):
Get a chance to say goodbye, like you know.
Speaker 2 (13:56):
And it's kind of weird. So I thought that was
really fantastic. It was cool that he got to stay
afterwards and he was out with a lot of the
players and their families at the end of the.
Speaker 3 (14:06):
Game, just hanging out with them, And I just thought that.
Speaker 2 (14:09):
Was so great because he's a guy that for all
he did on the field, he did so much more
off it, right, I mean, he has done for this community.
It's you can't even count the ways that he has
impacted this community. And so for everybody to kind of
rally around him like that, I thought that was pretty cool.
Of course, there's idiots on the internet being like, oh,
(14:29):
it's saying really stupid things, but those people do not matter.
A lot of people really embrace justin It was awesome.
Speaker 1 (14:36):
Yeah, that's the way it needs to be. I saw
some of those tweets and I was just like, what
are you even doing here? Were you trying to hot
take the guy you know who's coming back to this
community when he's playing careers done, probably jumping into media.
Now you're trying to hot take that guy. I mean
you might be working with him.
Speaker 3 (14:49):
Someday, you know, yeah, no kidding.
Speaker 1 (14:52):
So I found that to be to be a fascinating
responsor Romie, last thing for I get you out of here.
In terms of the Denver Broncos is starting to look
paved toward the playoffs?
Speaker 2 (15:02):
Are we are we daring to dream?
Speaker 3 (15:05):
Oh? You know what I feel like?
Speaker 2 (15:07):
Am I getting ahead of myself?
Speaker 4 (15:08):
Yes?
Speaker 3 (15:08):
I'm absolutely getting ahead of myself.
Speaker 2 (15:10):
But I feel like that playoff drought is going to
come to an end. And it's so pretty confident about it.
One because we see this offense continue to grow week
in and week out. If bo continues to progress like this,
he is a quarterback that can lead this team to
the playoffs. And again, let's circle back to what we
started with at the top of this the defense. This
is a Super Bowl caliber defense. This is a playoff
(15:34):
caliber defense, and it is one of those defenses that
even if your offense has an off day, if they
can continue to play.
Speaker 3 (15:40):
The way they did, you can have an off day.
Speaker 2 (15:42):
And still win some really important games. And I think
what makes this stretch really exciting is a lot of
these games have huote playoff implications. The Chargers game at
that Bengals game is probably going to be a play
in game potentially for both teams. Right, you got the Colts.
So there's so many games that every single wame kind
of mean something. So now we see how this young
team responds to an opportunity to do something that this
(16:06):
franchise has not done in a long time, and to
do what they have all been saying that they feel.
Speaker 3 (16:12):
Like they can do this year, and that's to make
the playoffs.
Speaker 2 (16:13):
And I'm all in, let's go postseason.
Speaker 1 (16:16):
Be fantastic to possibly even have two Colorado teams in
their playoffs in football. Hopefully we can make that happen.
Whenning you're in Roby, we always appreciate the.
Speaker 2 (16:24):
Time guys do a best.
Speaker 1 (16:26):
Appreciate you absolutely, Roly being CBS four
