but you know, sa grand a nice message.
Speaker 2 (00:25):
He see. He needs to pick me up. He reads
all the he reads all the comments.
Speaker 1 (00:28):
We make him read all the comments on the youtubeses
and the rate we made him read all we don't.
We have him print out only the good ones and
he has to read the bad ones so he gets
stuck with ol the garbage on that. All right, I
tell you Kait commspiled hot line didn't talk to our guy,
Cody Roar. Cody, coming off of thirty one thirteen victory
that didn't really feel like the final score is your
(00:49):
confidence As we head into this home stretch here higher
or lower.
Speaker 2 (00:53):
After that went over, the Colts.
Speaker 3 (00:55):
Know, it's always good to get to Wayne, and obviously
I think uh, I think the Cold defensively played better
than they had played all year. I thought that they
came out they had a really good game plan, even
though they played, you know, predominantly zone coverage. I thought
they had a really good game plan for Denver. I
think they played them, you know, arguably better than anyone
has since I think Pittsburgh in Week two from a
zone coverage standpoint, to me, been the biggest concern is
(01:18):
the run game. You know, and you know, you have
one hundred and ninety three total net yards offense. Bow
Knicks goes for one thirty help leaves the team with
twenty three rushing yards and accounts for one fifty three
of that one ninety three. That's the problem, and that
is I don't know what the answer is, you know,
in terms of how they fix it. But this has
been a consistent issue for a majority of the season.
(01:38):
And you know, in a game yesterday where where Bo
was struggling, he was having a rough game, and the
run game wasn't there, you know, thankfully, defensive special teams
came up big, but that can't be the case any
of these final three games against opponents that can't put
up points like no other. So that's me, you know,
they're definitely is some concern. It's that Denver got their
ninth win because I feel like if they would have
(01:58):
lost these three, I don't know what the confidence level
would be.
Speaker 1 (02:03):
Talking with Cody Rourke my Sports Cody, I you know I'm.
Speaker 3 (02:05):
With you on that.
Speaker 1 (02:06):
My question, I guess with the run game becomes the
obvious is this schematic?
Speaker 2 (02:11):
Is it personnel? Is it both? Because it looks like
we're really struggling to try to run it out of
the gun, and it.
Speaker 1 (02:17):
Doesn't look like we have any sort of commitment. We
just kind of shuffle guys through it hope to find
a hot hand. And while that has happened every couple
of games that that hasn't been something that has been consistent.
Speaker 3 (02:27):
Yeah, No, I think I think it's a combination of
both things. I mean, obviously, this is a primary zone
block zone blocking scheme here in terms of the rug game,
and a lot of it is identifying, you know, who
who we have to double team and who we have
to get up to at the next level to either steal,
and sometimes those holes are closing up a little quicker.
But also it we're seeing, you know, a lot more
stacked boxes. You know, teams are coming out here and
(02:48):
stopping them run. They're dropping six seven defenders back at
times saying hey, you know, we want you to throw
it short. We're going to try to take away the
deep stuff that you're you know, you've been hitting here
and we're just going to rally and tackle. And I
think that gave Bone some problems because they did run
some of the similar concepts they've been running all seasons,
specifically against the Raiders, specifically against the Falcons. And on
the very first interception there, Zaire Franklin, you know, ideally
(03:12):
both thinking that he's going to climb vertically with Devon
Vle and then the underneath the over out from low
Jordan Humphrey's going to open up between the zone and
that window and Ted Zaire Franklin stays and Bo anticipates,
throws a little and it's intercepted. I just think it
was just a rough game there. He pressed a little
bit too much because of the run game. But Ben,
I want to ask you this question here. I know
(03:32):
you're the interviewer guy here, But why we're seeing the
Broncos poll and run action? You know where they're they're
pulling to protect backside and Nate Atkins touchdowns a great
example of that. How can we not seeing more poll
in the run game? I don't understand. You've got guys
like Qluton Miners. I think Ben Power is capable. You've
got tackles that can pull from one side of the
(03:53):
ear if you really wanted him to. We're not seeing
that in this offense.
Speaker 2 (03:56):
Well, I'm with you on that. That's that's a question
that we've had. Why why aren't we seeing that?
Speaker 1 (04:01):
You know, and especially getting a guy like Quinn Miner's
out there in front who's athletic, getting me in space
where he can, uh you know, he could pick you
up and block on the fly, create a convoy. We
we have a fullback of Mike Burton, but we're more
interested in handing it off to him than we are
in any run places where he's lead blocking.
Speaker 2 (04:18):
And I just there's makeup here that I just don't understand.
Speaker 1 (04:21):
And I get that Sean Paty's forgotten more about football
than I'll ever know. I get that, But there are
obviousities here that I just don't get, and that's one
of them.
Speaker 3 (04:30):
Yeah, And part of me also wonders, too, is it
isn't like that because you don't have a clear cut
running back one here. And I know Javonti is getting
most of the snaps per game, but as you mentioned,
Diver doesn't really have a hot hand at the tailback position.
I think where you're constantly changing and shuffling the rotation,
you're never gonna really find that guy. I think Julel
mclafflin obviously was the guy. I think, you know, against
(04:52):
the Browns, a couple of those runs in the second
half gave them some life. But I mean, as you mentioned,
Diver's running it out of the gun, they're not running
it as much, you know under center, you know, on
third and one late in the third quarter, instead of
handing it to adrect Estimate downhill, you're you're trying to
chuck a deep shot down there that gets picked for
your third interception. To me, it's a little frustrating watching it.
And Sean had told us today that a lot of
(05:14):
what they're doing, he said, you know, we've got to
be better as coaches and identifying you know how we
run against maybe some things we haven't practiced going up
against so in terms of fronts and looks and maybe
changes there. But I mean, if I'm any team right
now in the playoffs, like you, I was thinking about
this yesterday. Let's say Never makes the playoffs, they hold
on the seventh seed and they're time to play Buffalo.
(05:35):
That's not a good matchup and that that's going to
be a disaster if that's the case, because Never can't
run the football and that Bill's defense. I know they're
boom or bust at times, but you know, you can't
ask your defense to be on the field as much
as they were, you know on Sunday's game against the Colts.
Speaker 2 (05:49):
Yeah, you can't.
Speaker 1 (05:50):
We're talking with Cody Rourke, Cody, I mean, Nick Benito
has worked his way in defensive player that year conversation.
Speaker 2 (05:56):
You look at the sports posts.
Speaker 1 (05:57):
He's the number three guy now behind team make pats
er Tan who's who's got a you know, spraying tank.
Speaker 2 (06:02):
Will find out the severity of that as we move along.
And uh and and TJ.
Speaker 1 (06:06):
Watt, who was also banged up. Is is Nick Benito
in the driver's seat for defensive Player of the Year.
Speaker 3 (06:12):
I think he deserves to be in that conversation with
the driver's seat. I mean, what he's doing from a
versatility standpoint is incredible.
Speaker 2 (06:18):
Bend.
Speaker 3 (06:18):
Look, I think we can all say, hey, TJ. Watt
is probably the most dominant player in football at that position,
but Nick Bonito is dominating. But he's also playing more
of a finance versatile rule because you know, he's consistently
dropping back into coverage on disguised looks. He's you know,
he's he's sniffing out trick plays. You know.
Speaker 2 (06:35):
The other thing I don't like.
Speaker 3 (06:36):
I don't like what they call that a fumble return
for a touchdown because you know, and I you know,
I think people who vote that don't necessarily watch the
games are just gonna look at stats and compare like, Oh,
he was just you know, a position where the ball
is at and he just running back. No, well he
did that was incredible play sniffing it out, you know,
So I'm gonna call it a pick sticks. I don't
care if they call it a fumble return for a touchdown.
Ball never hit the ground. But yeah, I think he's
(06:59):
definitely I think in the driver's seat right now. Three
games left, you're one game off of Trey Hendrickson, who's
got the sack lead right now in the NFL. Terry
Henderson's not in that conversation. In my opinion for defensive
player year, I think, if you're gonna hand out, you know,
whoever has the most sacks in the year. Okay, he
might be in line for that, but I think Benito
in these next three games has a real legitimate chance
to up those numbers. Here. I think he'll finish with
(07:21):
sixteen and a half this year.
Speaker 2 (07:23):
This is gonna be a double pass. They throw a
completed throw back to Richison.
Speaker 1 (07:27):
This team cento two there, so touchdown Timber.
Speaker 2 (07:35):
This place is a lad house. I call it Castle Benito,
because they'll explode right through you. But I look, Nick
is absolutely absolutely gonna be gonna be in that conversation.
I got lucky. I put a flyer on him just.
Speaker 1 (07:47):
Because the sack totals about three weeks ago a plus
ten thousand. Now at the books, he's like plus six hundred,
So I might just start looking at the cash out
value on that fairly soon.
Speaker 2 (07:55):
Just in case.
Speaker 1 (07:56):
But yeah, sixteen to that's a bold prediction. I like
the fact that he's gonna get featured up against Trey
hendrickson opposite sides the ball here on Saturday Bengals game
that's coming up.
Speaker 3 (08:05):
Yeah, that's be a fun one. I know the Bengals
this week they lost to him Hubbard for the year,
the other guy opposite to him. I know that's a
big blow to the Bengals defense that they're giving up plays.
They're also making a lot of plays too, though defensively
it's just I don't know, they just can't stop anybody,
you know, even though the offense is putting up a
lot of points. That's going to be a fun matchup.
But I think that's why this game here on Thursday
(08:25):
been is going to be so big here for Denver.
You win, you clinch a playoff spot and you have
a chance as well. I mean, depending on how the
Ravens game goes, you have a chance to jump up
to the fifth seed if you win, and I think
the Ravens lose this weekend, So that right there would
be huge for Denver, especially with a match up against
the Bengals on Saturday, which I mean Denver, I think
in the defense, with how they're playing, I think they
(08:47):
can play real, especially a passer dam and Miley mosster back.
I think the defense will be fine. I think that'll
be a fun game and fun matchup to watch. But
you know, in the offense prep points. You know, you
don't want to get in a shootout, and I think
with Joe Burrow and the Bengals because the Broncos offense,
I mean, this is the weird thing about it. They
show got to put up points, but yet they finished
the game with thirty one points thanks to you know,
(09:08):
special teams giving them a short field to work with
and defense obviously, you know when you get a defensive touchdown,
that's great. As bad as the offense was, I was
impressed with their moxie and the heart that they showed
because it was getting a little ugly there in that
third quarter.
Speaker 2 (09:20):
Yeah, I think there's there's two ways to look at this.
Speaker 1 (09:22):
On the one hand, my confidence is a bit shaken
in the fact that we've had back to back multi
interception games from bow Nicks. The offense has still looked
disjointed and we're coming off a buy and put that up.
And on the other hand, my confidence is restored in
the sense that this team continues to be resilient in
the way that it finds ways to put mistakes behind
it and build itself out of holes.
Speaker 3 (09:43):
Yeah, and look, I think this team that's a great
example there. They're different than the team we've seen in
the last six seven years, which you know, the team
in the position six seven, you know, for the last
six seven years to make the mistakes that never made yesterday.
I don't feel like they come back from that deficity.
Even like even gave down ten nothing ten nothing in
those prior years felt like a death sentence for this
team in a lot of those years here. But I mean,
(10:06):
you guys just continue to fire. I think they've got
a defense that they adjust they make you know, you
want to avoid the slow starts, but man, they make
good adjustments. They they forced turnover, they're anywhere to the
football is. They got a pass rush that's really really good,
and they dial up the pressure and the guys in
the secondary that can play well. And obviously you get
young guys like rookie Chris Abrams, Drains stepping up, the
Muri mattis third, your corner stepping up here in Sunday's game.
(10:29):
Those things are promising to me. But I mean Ben
We've said it all year. If the Broncos had a
good run game, which a lot of these national people,
you know, the claim to watch the tape that they have, uh,
this team would be drastically different, and I think they
might already have ten wins on the year if in
fact that's the case.
Speaker 1 (10:45):
Talking with Cody Rourke my Sports, you know, there are
a couple of things about that with the run game.
Would it behoof the Broncos to maybe start running some
Reid option stuff and using Bow's legs to open up
running lanes for the backs early in the game?
Speaker 3 (11:00):
Yeah, I mean right, not at this point. I mean
it was something that worked for you early on in
the season when you were really struggling to get the
run game going earlier. It's something you can free up,
I think with how a lot of defenses play. I mean,
I've been watching the last couple of weeks, and the
d ns are outside linebackers. Depending on what type of
front that the fishing, they're crashing down hard and it's
there for both to get to the outside. And obviously
(11:20):
I think you have some really cool designs. The Broncras
even broke it out in the preseason with Nate Atkins.
You know, they flowed one side, you know, to the
right side. Nate Atkins came back underneath the formation. It
was a lead blocker for ball on the outside. A
little bit more of that. It's in the arsenal. I'm
just Art's warning if Shawn's waiting for the right moment
to break it out right, like if you know you're
going to clinch a playoff spot if you win, we
might even see it here on Thursday Night football. But
(11:42):
short week creates a lot of questions, creates a lot
of challenge, especially when you know you're trying to get healthy.
Quinn Miners left the game in the third quarter with
a shoulder injury. Came back in the fourth, which was
a good sign. But aside from that, you know, you
may not have Julian McLoughlin's peak. You know, tweaked the squad,
did not come back into the game, and it looked
like he was, you know, lift a little bit in
the locker room on Sunday. So just a lot of
(12:03):
questions here, Ben, But you know, I said, I think
that this team is more resilient than I think any
team we've seen in the last six to seven years.
Things are trending in the right direction, and if they
can get bow going in the run game, if the
run game can get going, everything opens up for this team.
And I think the Broncos would be in a good format.
But the Chargers is gonna be a tough team to
run on. I know they just gave over two hundred
yards on the ground yesterday, but this is a team
(12:24):
that's also you know, they got guys that they could
bounce back really quickly short.
Speaker 2 (12:28):
Week up against the Chargers.
Speaker 1 (12:30):
Got kind of man handled by them in the last game,
even though the final score was a little close.
Speaker 2 (12:35):
Pats Ertan went out early in that game. Might miss
this game as well.
Speaker 1 (12:39):
How much trouble the Bronc goes in if we're missing
Sirtan and Riley Moss well, I mean.
Speaker 3 (12:44):
On paper, it doesn't look very promising, right And that's
where you've got a halt that you know, ja Clon
mcmilli can continue to make plays in the nickel where
you got your safeties healthy, which is good, and then
you're gonna have you know, your young guys and Demari
Matthis and Chris Abrams drain. It's a big challenge for
those guys if they have to do it. I mean,
Sean's got confidence in those guys based on what they
did on Sunday. I think that's gonna play. Though, you know,
(13:04):
I know it's It was reported by Ian Rappaport, a
good friend of the show, that you know, it's a
minor ankle sprain. I though he went out and he
was doing a charity thing here, says it's getting better
every day. I think he'll be good to go. Riley
the other that's the other question. Maybe enough that shot
he could play. I don't think it's going to happen.
I think Cincinnati timeline, as you kind of indicated as well.
Speaker 1 (13:24):
Yeah, I tend to tend to think that's the case
as well. They just got to keep an eye on
the swelling with their tan and see if if he
can be good to go. H this game.
Speaker 2 (13:32):
You know, it's interesting.
Speaker 1 (13:33):
You win this and the Chargers are suddenly on the ropes.
Grant Smith's Cincinnati Bengals start to come into view as
a potential, uh potential playoffs team.
Speaker 2 (13:42):
Man Broncos got to take him on on a Saturday.
Speaker 1 (13:45):
You know, all this chicanery that they had with moving
around the you know, allowing it to be flexed, even
though they could have refused that. The Chargers flex sets
them up with extra rest even though it got short
of the day because it's moved back to Saturday.
Speaker 2 (13:56):
But the Bengals are the ones really getting short at there.
Speaker 3 (13:58):
Yeah, because they were just they were and alternate places.
It was Cincinnati originally on thursdaynight football, wasn't it.
Speaker 1 (14:03):
Yeah, And so they moved them forward and they moved
back and they short at Cincinnati to day. We all
said so Sean Payton certainly probably not making too many friends.
Speaker 3 (14:11):
With Zach Taylor chef not checkers. You know, you gotta
do whatever you can to win. I like the mindset
from Sean Payton. Stink that's coming on a short week there,
But obviously, as you mentioned, if it's a Saturday, you
do get some extra rest there, which would be good.
Kind of another mini vibe and not necessarily the case.
You get some guys back healthy, and then you go
on to play a game where I think Denver has
(14:31):
a really great chance to go on the road and
get a win if all things aligned.
Speaker 2 (14:35):
Yeah, well, hopefully we can pull this off on Thursday.
Look forward to talk to you about it again. Cody
We appreciate your time as always.

Speaker 2 (15:09):
We appreciate it. Now it's time the NFL six pack.
It's time for the NFL six pad.
Speaker 3 (15:15):
I'm gonna trade the last per insight and insight information
you can't find anywhere else.
Speaker 2 (15:20):
I know, six the top six NFL.
Speaker 3 (15:23):
Admind what.
Speaker 4 (15:27):
Further testing of Geno Smith's nee delivers a lot of
positive optimistic signs. Geno Smith underwent imaging on his injured
knee Monday after he heard it yesterday in the game,
and he appears the Seahawks quarterback escaped serious injury. MRI
showed no structural damage and no fractures. Were fortunate, a
lot of positive optimistic signs coming out of the tests
(15:50):
that coach Mike McDonald said, and he said, Geno's a
beast man. He's in here working out in the morning,
working through it. I know he's still feeling it, but
this guy's as nails. Do you see Geno Smith coming
back and playing this week? And what can you tell
us about Patrick mahomes ankle.
Speaker 2 (16:07):
Well, as far as you know goes structurally, it looks good.
They're expecting him back, I think, and they need him.
Speaker 1 (16:14):
They're they're tied with the Rams atop the division there
one game ahead of Arizona. San Francisco is still not
out of it at six and eight, by the way,
so there's you know, there's a lot to play for
for Seattle, and I think they'll be in trouble if
if Sam Howe winds up having to be the guy
for an extended.
Speaker 2 (16:32):
Period of time. He didn't look great yesterday, No, he
did not.
Speaker 1 (16:35):
And I'll say this, Seattle interestingly has been a much
much better road team than they've been home.
Speaker 2 (16:40):
Team.
Speaker 1 (16:40):
They're three and five at homeless year five and one
on the road, So interesting, interesting dichotomy there. Mike McDonald's
got that team so really starting to round into form,
and it'd be a shame if if they lost Geno
for an extended period of time. As far as Pat
Maholmes goes, I'm thinking that that Houston game might wind
up be the Carson Wentz kind of game. You may
see him come back for one game and then you know,
(17:02):
rest again when the Broncos play the Chiefs and be
Carson Wiz probably again. At that point, they only need
to win one of these to put the I think,
to put it away in secure the number one seed,
number one seed away from Buffalo, and so I think
that that's probably the direction that they go is if
Carson Wentz wraps it up, you could see Carson Wentz
last three games. You might get some some some snaps
(17:23):
from homes just to shake off a little rust with
that with that ankle. But they view him as need
to be the playoffs, and I think they're going to
play slow play that approach.
Speaker 2 (17:31):
Two. I don't know what that noise was. My apologies.
I don't know if you heard it.
Speaker 4 (17:41):
Bill Belichick declines to discuss buyout, but says he's not
leaving UNC.
Speaker 2 (17:46):
This is such an interesting story to me.
Speaker 4 (17:48):
North Carolina coach Bill Belichick has said of his new job,
I didn't come here to leave. His contract, however, makes
it very easy to leave. After June one, twenty twenty five,
the buyout plummets from ten million to one million dollars.
Speaker 2 (18:01):
As noted on.
Speaker 4 (18:02):
Sunday, that term was not randomly generated, it was specifically negotiated.
On the Let's Go podcast with Bill Belichick, Jim Gray
specifically asked Bill Belichick about the buyout and whether it
means he has left the door open to depart. Belichick said, Jim,
you know, I don't discuss contracts. What do you make
(18:22):
of this buyout clause in the Bill Belichick contract?
Speaker 2 (18:25):
At you UNC? Well, I brought that up to Dave
Logan when when it was breaking that he was get
hired there. I'd got to copy the contract.
Speaker 1 (18:31):
I brought that up on the KI Sports Show and
talked about that buyout. He does he drops what JU
first I think it is or whatever? It drops immediately yep,
from ten million down to like one hundred thousand dollars
or whatever it is. If it's stupid and it's interesting,
excuse me. It's interesting that you know the date the
dating on that basically, I mean.
Speaker 2 (18:49):
If you put it in at that point in time,
that's basically saying, hey, look, I mean as an NFL coach,
you won't have time to get a staff together.
Speaker 1 (18:55):
I'll be they'll all be hired everything else. So you're
that June first thing. You're you're in at least for
North Carolina for the first season. But it certainly leaves
the door open after this season to get back out there,
so I would not be surprised. I cannot, for the
life of me, think that Bill Belichick would not go
somewhere to try to get that record from Shula.
Speaker 2 (19:12):
How many wins is he away?
Speaker 3 (19:14):
What?
Speaker 2 (19:14):
Eighteen? I think he needs two seasons something like that.
I have to go back and look. I think he'd
want that record.
Speaker 1 (19:19):
Yeah, I mean, the historian football historian that he is.
I can't, for the life of me imagine that Bill
Belichick wouldn't shoot.
Speaker 4 (19:24):
For that record. I was out last week, as you know,
what did you say about him taking that job? I
mean I was mind blown when they when they announced that.
Speaker 1 (19:33):
Yeah, almost everybody I know was sort of like, why,
you know, I get that he wants to keep coaching,
but you know, he has no.
Speaker 2 (19:43):
Experience at the collegiate level.
Speaker 1 (19:46):
There's really there's not any you know, I mean upside,
that's just he he just wants to retire by doing that.
Speaker 2 (19:51):
I mean, maybe that's you know, maybe that's his thing.
He reached out to the Chicago Bears and the New
York Jets.
Speaker 1 (19:56):
The Jets a team he resigned from on a napkin
ceremoniously before going to New England, Like, I don't know,
I have.
Speaker 2 (20:04):
No idea to me.
Speaker 1 (20:06):
We'll see if it works. I'm not buying that it's
going to be as big a draw. Coach Prime is
tapped into the culture and it's a part of what
makes him a draw.
Speaker 2 (20:16):
The Bill Belichick thing.
Speaker 1 (20:18):
I mean, kids that are graduating high school now, we're
nine years old when you last won a Super Bowl late,
Like what, these kids aren't gonna be wowed by Bill Belichick.
Speaker 2 (20:25):
So, you know, I don't know, we'll see. I'm here
for it. I'm skeptical.
Speaker 3 (20:29):
Three.
Speaker 4 (20:32):
This was such a crazy story last week and it
continues to develop. Forty nine ers empty Devondre Campbell's locker
and remove his name plate. The forty nine Ers are
done with linebacker de Andre Campbell. They've imposed a three
game suspension after he refused to play on Thursday night.
But that's obviously and hardly unjustified effort to save money
(20:53):
and to keep him from playing for another team, which
might be what he wants. Being Nick Wagoner of ESPN,
do the forty nine Ers have emptied Campbell's locker and
removed his nameplate. No one on the team, however, will
be complaining. After Thursday's night's lost to the Rams, tight
end George Kittle and cornerback Tavarius Awards sounded off. Today,
even more players chimed in. Nick Bosa said Campbell was
(21:16):
complaining in the locker room before the game. Bosa considered
stepping in, he was too busy wearing his Trump hat,
just kidding, but he didn't want to create more of
a distraction.
Speaker 2 (21:26):
What do you make of this story and what more
can you tell us? Well?
Speaker 1 (21:29):
I talked about this on the Insider Sagle with Dave
yesterday and this was gonna happen, and sure enough it has.
They feel like that Devonda Campbell was angling to get
out of his deal and go work, you know, go
somewhere else. And in an effort to facilitate that from happening,
they've got.
Speaker 2 (21:45):
To suspendon for conduct doctor mental and hang on to
his contract to eat the rest of it for the
rest of the year.
Speaker 1 (21:49):
They'll recoup some of the bonus money, you know, out
of that, but other than that, they'll just eat the
rest of it and go from there.
Speaker 2 (21:54):
He was on a one year deal anyway.
Speaker 1 (21:56):
Campbell, who refused to go into the game in the
third quarter after Drake Greenlaw was back Gop. Campbell had
been the starter for the Niners all year in the
absence of Drake green Law, but yeah, was complaining before
the game and kind of moulthed off in the locker
room a little bit about a starting job going away.
Campbell had by and large had a positive reputation around
the league. Gy drafted by the Falcons, he was an
(22:16):
old pro with the Green Bay Packers and a former
Walter Payton Mann of the Year nominee. But just you know,
acrimonious in his departure from the Niners. And I don't
think anybody, I don't think any party there is going
to miss the other four.
Speaker 4 (22:32):
Well, we were talking about the Jets and Bill Belichick
reaching out to them. The Jets have interviewed Thomas de
Metrov for their GM job. The Jets have completed the
interview with Thomas de Metrov for their general manager post,
the team announced earlier today. Dmetrov, fifty eight, is a
first candidate to interview with the team since the Jets
fired Joe Douglas on November nineteenth. D Metrov, of course,
(22:54):
was the Patriots director of college scouting from two thousand
and three to two thousand and seven and the Falcons
GM from two thousand an eight to twenty twenty. He's
a twenty eight year veteran of the NFL and was
recognized as an NFL.
Speaker 2 (23:05):
Executive of the Year in two thousand and eight and
twenty ten. What do you think of this interview? And
does anybody really even want the Jets GM job?
Speaker 1 (23:15):
Well, you know, I mean there's only thirty two of those.
Somebody wants it, you know, I'll take it if they
want to. If they're just handed it out, I will
tell you there's gonna be some other people interviewing for
us very soon. John Robinson, former general manager the Titan's
gonna be interviewing there. Lewis Reddick, the personality on television.
Speaker 2 (23:29):
Will be interviewing for that jobs.
Speaker 1 (23:31):
They're gonna cast a wide net, but this is being
run by the thirty third team. The thirty third teams
the website that Mike Tannenbaum started. Our good friend John
Pagannell worked there for a minute. My friends that have
worked at that website for a minute. They're part of
the Bill Belichick to North Carolina deal. They're they're getting
involved in a lot of these coaching things through Tannenbaum's connections,
and so this is interesting to sort of see them
(23:53):
power play their move and if any of this stuff
actually ends up.
Speaker 2 (23:56):
Working out, I don't think to Beetrop's gonna get the job.
Speaker 1 (23:59):
He's an outside the box thinker, though at interviewing him
first is certainly I think a good idea because you know,
it may raise some questions that maybe other people that
are that are more cookie cutter type general managers may
not ask. And so Dimitrov for whatever you think of him,
and I you know, I'm not convinced that he should
be a general manager again, but he is an outside
the box thinker. Who does have some crazy ideas that
(24:20):
tend to pan out a little bit. So I would
I would love to interview him, even if we're not
going to necessarily hire him.
Speaker 2 (24:26):
Maybe we should interview him, My misshow we can't? You know?
We want text him, We'll help interview we can get
on the show five Sacramento State.
Speaker 4 (24:37):
Their source shoots down a report of Mike Vick as
a coaching candidate. With Dion Sanders thriving as a college
football coach and other former football players seem to be
interested in that model, Those who cover football need to
be wary that they're sometimes being used as ponds in
the effort to get the former football player a job.
It happened last month when Adam Schefter of ESPN dot
(24:59):
com swallow the hook on the notion that Hall of
Fame linebacker Ray Lewis was a candidate at Florida Atlantic University.
Speaker 1 (25:05):
He was not.
Speaker 2 (25:06):
It happened again today.
Speaker 4 (25:07):
When Schefter reported Mike Vick is a candidate at Sacramento State.
Speaker 2 (25:12):
Is this a true story? Is Adam Schefter right or
is he wrong?
Speaker 4 (25:16):
And what else did he have to say today in
regards to that job search?
Speaker 2 (25:20):
Well, okay, first of all Sacramento State.
Speaker 1 (25:23):
Michael Vick told the Virginia Pilot newspaper that he was
a candidate for that job. So Michael Vick is the
source on that that he's a candidate for the job. Now,
if Michael Vick was lying, that's one thing. But Sacramento State,
he's trying to put together the Sack twelve, which is
their collective. He's trying to put together a fifty million
dollar in IL deal, which is huge for a school
(25:45):
of that size, for them to join the Mount Wester
Pac twelve as a football school.
Speaker 2 (25:49):
Michael Vick is the head coach.
Speaker 3 (25:52):
You know that.
Speaker 2 (25:52):
I don't know.
Speaker 1 (25:53):
I would It would seem to me that you would
want someone if you could put together a fifty million
dollar collective, that you would want someone with some experience
that Michael Vick doesn't have experience running a sporting organization,
just not coaching.
Speaker 2 (26:06):
Was it too soon?
Speaker 3 (26:07):
You know?
Speaker 2 (26:07):
I don't know.
Speaker 1 (26:09):
Vic for whatever, you know, you think of him certainly
rehabilitated this image and you see he's got that dog
at him.
Speaker 2 (26:14):
So I think, you know, end of the.
Speaker 1 (26:17):
Day, having him, having him associated with your program certainly
brings you headlines.
Speaker 2 (26:22):
I don't know if yeah, I caught that one.
Speaker 1 (26:25):
Yeah, I don't know that necessarily that that's somebody that's
that's a fifty million dollars and I don't.
Speaker 2 (26:31):
Know that you put him in charge of that. Well,
and someone else shot back at today the god Leave
shot back and him saying, there's no way this fifty
million dollars number was real. Turns out it is, and
Schefter shot back at him like, hey.
Speaker 1 (26:45):
Man, you're on a seven game losing streak in the
Horizon League with the number one score. Maybe paying more
attention to coaching and less attention to what I'm reporting more.
Speaker 4 (26:53):
I love the spicy side of Adam Schefter from time
to time.
Speaker 2 (26:56):
Yeah, it's always fun.
Speaker 4 (26:58):
Wide receiver Odell Becka clears waivers, making him a free agent.
Receiver Odell Beckham cleared waivers earlier today. The Dolphins waved
Beckham with a non injury settlement Friday, and no team
claimed him, despite it costing only two hundred and one
thousand dollars in base salary for the rest of the season.
Speaker 2 (27:16):
Beckham reportedly had a short.
Speaker 4 (27:18):
List of teams for whom he would play with the
goal of landing in the right situation. The question is
will anyone want Beckham? Will anyone want Beckham? And do
the Broncos look to add obj No on the Broncos.
Speaker 2 (27:32):
As far as the rest of it goes, I don't know.
Speaker 1 (27:34):
I mean, you know, there's some teams out there that
are struggling at receiver right now that have playoff aspirations
and the ability to do that. You know, Baltimore certainly
he's familiar with the offense there. You know, I don't
know what does he have left in the tank? I mean,
he was a complete non factor for Miami this year.
Speaker 2 (27:53):
Ran catches yeah, for like fifty five yards or something.
I mean, he's used to be a complete non factor.
I'm not sure he's got left in the tank.
Speaker 1 (28:01):
So it'd be interesting to see if anybody picks him
up and tries to put him in there.
Speaker 2 (28:04):
I doubt, sincerely doubt uh that he would be coming here.
Speaker 4 (28:08):
What about maybe the Chargers the Broncos next to home,
I mean, maybe they're they're receiving corps is uh pedestrian
at best.
Speaker 1 (28:16):
That's that's one of the teams you would think would
uh would at least kind of eyeball it and see if,
especially if it's a low cost maneuver.
Speaker 2 (28:22):
But you know, certainly he's.
Speaker 1 (28:24):
Got experience out there in Los Angeles before with the Rams,
so uh.
Speaker 2 (28:27):
But I don't know, I mean, what what is he
offering that, you know?
Speaker 1 (28:30):
I mean, you're you're expecting him, if you're if you're
the Chargers, you're expecting him to come in a run
block a lot.
Speaker 2 (28:33):
And I'm not sure at this point in his career
has something he wants to do. Definitely not.
Speaker 1 (28:38):
I mean, they could use a little Jordan Humphrey, but
just saying well, we don't want to get rid of
little Jordan Humphrey. No, no, No, he's got that dog
in him too. Yeah, I I you know, it's it's uh,
certainly certainly fascinating that Michael Vick thing who came out
and denied the story of Sacramento State. Uh yes, a
(28:59):
source with Secmento State denied that because I okay, I
think there's more credence to it than that. That's that's
fascinating that they've come out and denied it. But yeah,
the Ray Lewis thing, I remember that something. Sometimes it's
just to get a guy's name back in the conversation
and get him a gig. Somewhere, and I get that,
but Michael Vick legitimately told the Virginia Pilot this earlier.
I think it's a Virginia Pilot. It was one of
(29:20):
those newspapers over there told him this earlier today. I
saw this this morning. I saw it this morning, and
I you know, that was one of those things that
you know, at first I.
Speaker 2 (29:31):
Kind of scratched my head about, and then I was like, Okay,
well maybe, I mean, you know, it's is what it is.
Speaker 1 (29:36):
Yeah, the Virginia Pilot reported this morning, So there you go,
and it's the daily newspaper for Hampton Roads, Virginia.
Speaker 2 (29:42):
It's Virginia's largest daily newspaper.
Speaker 1 (29:44):
It's now some fly by night website pretend to be
a paper any that kind of stuff, Like it's Virginia's
largest newspaper.
Speaker 2 (29:48):
Was reporting that was a thing, and that's where Vic's from.
Speaker 4 (29:50):
So well, and they also updated the set he's in
talks with Norfolk State and that that.
Speaker 1 (29:56):
May have some validity to it in the sense that
in the sense that maybe he's maybe VIC is pitting
one against the other, you know, in an effort to
elevate his profile.
Speaker 2 (30:08):
But yeah, the Sacramento State.
Speaker 1 (30:09):
Thing is fascinating because they are looking they're actively looking
for entry into the Mountain West or Pac twelve uh
and they had to raise certain funds and do with
certain things in order to make that happen. So anyway,
we'll see see how that goes.
Speaker 2 (30:20):
Broncos Country tonight is an All Bright grad. Smith rolls
home after this
