Daniel Popper for our twice yearly segment on What's Popping
with the with the now Los Angeles Chargers about still
called them San Diego.
Speaker 2 (00:31):
It's been a while. I should be over that by now, Daniel,
how's it going good?
Speaker 3 (00:35):
Thanks for having on.
Speaker 2 (00:36):
I'm sure you've never heard that what's popping thing before.
Speaker 1 (00:38):
It's totally original and you've definitely never heard that before.
Speaker 3 (00:42):
So funny story about that. I had a column for
my high school newspaper called What's Popping? That's where I
got my start. Lucan and High School Baby Annecticut.
Speaker 1 (00:54):
We're bringing it back. This is this is what we're doing.
We're bringing back your high school memories. This is what
we do on the show. We're bringing it all back,
going retro here with you. This this game has a
lot of significance for both teams coming into this thing. Uh.
The Chargers coming off a probably bitterly disappointing loss to
the Tampa Bay Bucks won which the Bucks surprisingly were
(01:14):
able to run and throw against a very stout defense.
Speaker 2 (01:16):
On the flip side of that, the Broncos beat.
Speaker 1 (01:18):
The Cols thirty one to thirteen in a game that
did not feel that close at all, in fact, got
away with a few. Uh. The the Chargers coming in
here with some some offensive injuries that that have kind
of shaken the identity here. Obviously you've you've you know,
Dobbin's been out for a little bit, and you you
got some other injuries going on here.
Speaker 2 (01:33):
Well, dis lee.
Speaker 1 (01:34):
The Broncos coming in with some some defensive injuries. Riley
Moss out pats are ten. They say he's gonna be
a go, but he's playing on an on an ankle sprain.
Speaker 4 (01:41):
Uh.
Speaker 1 (01:42):
These are two teams that are looking to make the playoffs.
Speaker 2 (01:45):
The Broncos need one win and their end. The Chargers
and think need.
Speaker 1 (01:47):
To you know, this is this is a tale of
two teams meeting it sort of opposite, but same ends
of the spectrum.
Speaker 2 (01:55):
How nervous is the Chargers faithful?
Speaker 3 (02:00):
Yeah, you know, I think you bring up a great point.
It's the first time in a long time where we've
had a Chargers Broncos game late in the season that
really means something significant for both sides. You know, I
think the big thing with this game for the Chargers
is they need to respond like that Buccaneers loss was
really embarrassing, I think for everybody involved, especially on the
(02:22):
defensive side. I mean, they gave up more than five
hundred yards. They allowed the Bucks to score on six
straight drives. They couldn't stop the run, they couldn't do
anything in the passing game, They gave up explosives all
over the field. It was really uncharacteristic. And I think
Jesse Mintor, the defensive coordinator, sort of said it best
this week, like it can be a one off, but
it has to be only one time, and that means
(02:42):
they have to respond in this game. And I think
you're gonna learn a lot about what is this team,
what is the culture? What has Jim Harbob been building
in Los Angeles. That all comes to the forefront when
you get punched in the mouth, and that's what happened.
Speaker 5 (02:56):
To the Chargers.
Speaker 3 (02:57):
And we're really gonna learn about this team as far as.
Speaker 5 (03:00):
They respond on Thursday night in.
Speaker 3 (03:01):
A big, big game.
Speaker 1 (03:02):
It feels like the Chargers have abandoned the identity of
what they were early in the season. They were smash
mel football team, very physical, rund the football, play great defense,
and now all of a sudden, it seems like with
Jka Dobbins out, do they not trust Gus Edwards had
the results not been there, but they're just not getting
the gusbus going and it doesn't feel like they're giving
enough reps to the doll personally.
Speaker 5 (03:24):
Yeah, so it's a results thing.
Speaker 3 (03:26):
I think early in games they really struggled to get
the run game going. That had some negative.
Speaker 5 (03:31):
Plays early in games.
Speaker 3 (03:33):
And Greg Roman surprisingly has gotten away from the run.
You know, he's obviously a coordinator that has said often times,
you know how he believes in building a run game
through calling runs, and so they've gotten away from it.
And I think you bring up a great point because
they built this team to.
Speaker 5 (03:48):
Run the football. They took a tackle at number five
and Joe Alt.
Speaker 3 (03:51):
They overhauled the running back room. Their biggest free agent
signing was Will Disley, a run blocking.
Speaker 5 (03:56):
Tight end who's mentioned is out with the shoulder injury,
and so so you know, early in the season.
Speaker 3 (04:02):
They were leaning into that identity, but because they've been
unable to run the ball early in games, they've been
deviating away from it and passing the ball. The problem
with that is they don't have the pass catching options
to be a threatening or explosive passing game. They have
the quarterback obviously, but you need weapons, and they didn't
invest in weapons outside of Aladd McConkey this offseason. They invested
(04:23):
in the run game, so they built it one way.
They were trying to play that way. They can't play
that way now. They're moving away from it, but they
haven't built the roster to sustain the way that they
want to play now, which is.
Speaker 5 (04:34):
To put the ball in justin Rivers' hands.
Speaker 3 (04:36):
If you have an offense that has no identity, it
feels very rudderless. They're super inconsistent, and that's not a
good recipe as you're heading into really important December and
January football.
Speaker 1 (04:46):
On the flip side, of that, the Denver Broncos can't
run the football and despite trying their quarterbacks, coming off
to multi interception games back to back after having a
pretty stellar middle of the season, and they're off the
buy on the road.
Speaker 2 (05:00):
After a short week.
Speaker 1 (05:02):
Broncos fans, I don't think you know, I think you
hit it right on the head when you said it earlier.
There hasn't been a Broncos Chargers game that it's just
important to either team in.
Speaker 2 (05:09):
Quite some time. But as this thing comes up, the
Broncos are oh for hardball.
Speaker 1 (05:13):
They're not going to get a practices in this week
because of the short week.
Speaker 2 (05:16):
In the travel.
Speaker 1 (05:17):
You know, is this is this a game where the
Chargers have a slight advantage?
Speaker 3 (05:24):
I think potentially, But you know, defensively, they are dealing
with some injuries. You know, Lohi Gillman's on Ir, Elijah Molden.
There's third safety with Derwin James. You know, he's dealing
with a knee injury.
Speaker 5 (05:37):
He's been playing a lot of snaps.
Speaker 3 (05:38):
With the lowis Goiman out on Ir and he hasn't
practiced this week, and so you're looking at a kind
of a tense situation with the safety rotation. The Chargers
haven't really wanted to play Derwin James at safety. They've
really been playing.
Speaker 5 (05:51):
Him as almost exclusively a.
Speaker 3 (05:52):
Nickel player over the last probably seven eight weeks. But
he might have to play safety in this game.
Speaker 5 (05:57):
But the one thing I will say is this, like
the defense is looking for a bounced back performance.
Speaker 3 (06:01):
So the one thing I can say is that you're
the Broncos are going to get a highly, highly motivated
and focused defensive group. Do they have enough helpie bodies
in the back end to actually execute, We'll see, But
they do have a full stable of guys upfront on
the edge. Obviously that's been when they've been playing well.
The engine of the defense between Joey Bosa Klom actually
(06:24):
two plow two. So you're gonna get an energized group
because they got their bust feet last week, and we'll
see if they can sort of execute and have.
Speaker 5 (06:31):
A bounce back game against Bonecks to the Broncos offense.
Speaker 1 (06:33):
The last two times that these teams played, the Chargers
rightly throttled the Broncos.
Speaker 2 (06:39):
The game was not as close as the final score.
Speaker 1 (06:41):
Broncos did some makeup work in the fourth quarter when
uh the Chargers. We playing a little loose on defense,
but uh, you know, it's just felt like just a
it felt like a beat down.
Speaker 2 (06:49):
It felt like a physical.
Speaker 1 (06:51):
Beatdown early in the year, and and and on a
short week like that, that's got to be tough. The Uh,
the Broncos have some optimism in this in the sense
that you know, the passing game has evolved from what
it was at that point in the season. But you know,
these are two teams that one of them is trying
to push themselves over the over the finish line and
another one's got their backs to the wall. Chargers two
(07:11):
and a half point favorites in this. Does that line
surprise you?
Speaker 5 (07:16):
Yeah, honestly, it does surprise me a little bit.
Speaker 3 (07:19):
You know, I would think, you know, the Broncos would
be favored, although.
Speaker 5 (07:23):
You know the Chargers are at home, so you can
sort off to factor that in.
Speaker 3 (07:26):
I mean, the interesting thing you bring up sort of
the physicality and you know, that type of game that
it was in the first matchup. What I'm really looking
at is like the weakness in this Chargers offensive line
has really been on the interior of the season. With
Bradley Boseman, Trey Pipkins Zion johnson' Zion Johnson has an
ankle injury, and so, you know, the Broncos just sort
(07:48):
of scouting them and figuring out how they've changed this week.
I mean, they'll rotate a bunch of guys on the
interior and they all can play in different spots and
they're all.
Speaker 5 (07:55):
Going to be fresh because of how much they rotate.
Speaker 3 (07:58):
And so, you know, so that physical matchup Chargers in
Tier against you know, Broncos defensive in Tier. That's gonna
be a big matchup for me. And I think it's
going to come down to whichever team sort of brings
that physicality. I think we saw that in the first matchup,
as you mentioned, I think the Chargers sort of won
that battle. You know what happens, you know, in this
second matchup on a short week with two teams that,
(08:20):
as we've mentioned, they are a little bit things up here.
Speaker 1 (08:22):
If the Chargers do win this, then they own the
tie break against the Broncos and look like they're in
prime position.
Speaker 2 (08:28):
If they lose this, then what he's the sky falling
at that point.
Speaker 5 (08:34):
For the Chargers.
Speaker 3 (08:34):
If they lose this, I mean ten wins and they're
in at this point after the Colton Dolphins both lost
last week, so neither of those teams can get to
ten two wins, and the Chargers get to ten, So.
Speaker 5 (08:45):
I don't necessarily think the sky is falling.
Speaker 3 (08:47):
If they lose. They have the Patriots and the Raiders,
two frankly bad teams in the schedule, both on the road,
but they should win those games and get to ten.
Speaker 5 (08:55):
So the result of this game, to me, is not
necessarily like.
Speaker 3 (08:58):
That important to me. I feel like it has to
be like a statement game in terms of how they play,
like I think they're gonna get in because I think
they're gonna win the last two games this season and
get to ten.
Speaker 5 (09:08):
This is about how do you respond from a bad
loss and do you come out.
Speaker 3 (09:11):
With the requisite energy in this game to stay competitive
with the Broncos team that's obviously nine to three over
their last twelve, So.
Speaker 5 (09:18):
The skuy wouldn't be following in that situation. To me,
it's going to be more of a play style game,
like how do they respond, how do they come out,
what's their physicality level? How much violence are they playing with?
Like do you see that coming off.
Speaker 3 (09:30):
Of them on the field, And that'll tell me everything
I need to know about what's actually being built with
this team from a culture standpoint.
Speaker 1 (09:35):
Talking with Daniel Popper again, Yeah, I mean, if you
look over the last five, the Broncos are four to one,
their lone loss being that field goal block at Kansas
City back on November tenth. Chargers in their last five
are two and three, and over their last three games
have scored exactly seventeen points in each game. The offense
is falling off a cliff post Cincinnati and Baltimore, That's
(09:56):
where I'm looking at it this. I mean, these two
teams are on paper evenly matched, but the offense has
really faltered for the Chargers of late. Is that solely
a product of the JK Dobbins thing or is there
something else at work here?
Speaker 3 (10:09):
I think it's partly related to losing JK.
Speaker 5 (10:11):
Dobbins, But there's been some trends happening, you know.
Speaker 3 (10:15):
I think teams have sort of identified a couple areas
where the Chargers really struggle. They can't really win against
man coverage, especially.
Speaker 5 (10:24):
You know after Lad McConkie.
Speaker 3 (10:26):
You know he missed the game with a knee and
shoulder injuries. He's really the only guy that can defeat
man coverage, and then they have a tough time dealing
with the blitz. And that goes back to JK.
Speaker 2 (10:35):
Dobbins too.
Speaker 3 (10:36):
He's their best running back as a ball carrier and
a pass catcher, but he's also far and away their
best pass protector and they have struggled to pick up
the blitz without JK. Dobbins in there. Camani Vydell a rookie,
he had four pressures allowed against the Buffs, who blitzed
almost sixty.
Speaker 5 (10:53):
Five percent of the time. That's tied for the.
Speaker 3 (10:55):
Most in a game this season for any running back.
And so I think offensive it's not that hard to game.
Speaker 5 (11:02):
Plan for this group with the Chargers.
Speaker 3 (11:04):
You play a bunch of man coverage and you blitz,
and the Chargers don't have the players outside to win
against man coverage, and they don't have me. You know,
running backs are frankly like the pass protectors in general,
to really handle the blitz. I don't think they've had
good plans for the various.
Speaker 5 (11:21):
Splitz packages that they've seen. So not a great matchup
because the way I'm describing this is kind of how
the Bronk cost.
Speaker 3 (11:26):
Like to play obviously, so you know, it's it's not
looking like a good matchup, but they have to find
a way to put it together offensively or they're not
going to have a real shot, you know, whether they
make the playoffs or not.
Speaker 1 (11:37):
How confident are you in this game? I mean, because
I'm nervous about it from the Denver side of the house.
Speaker 2 (11:43):
I you know, just the.
Speaker 1 (11:43):
Last couple of the games, even though they've won, have
had a little bit of a troubling trend with some
things on offense, the defense showing some cracks. Obviously, rather
than Moss going to be out, Pats or Tan's gets
the bomb ankle, and they do like to play man
and when your two best corners are out, that presents
a bit of a problem, even against a team that
doesn't really have a whole lot of man meters outside
of Cocky. So how confident is the Chargers fan base
(12:04):
right now?
Speaker 2 (12:04):
What is the temperature of that fan base?
Speaker 3 (12:08):
Yeah, I think they're frustrated with the with the offense, frankly,
And you know, obviously you hire an offensive coordinator like
Greg Roman, who's been in the league as long as
he's been in the league, he comes with a reputation
and I think that has sort of pushed the fan
base to turn on him rather quickly. But it's honestly,
the frustration is warranted, you know, based on the inconsistencies
(12:31):
from the offense. Like you mentioned, seventeen points the last.
Speaker 5 (12:33):
Couple of weeks.
Speaker 3 (12:34):
I mean the Chiefs game.
Speaker 5 (12:35):
They don't score in the first half and they score
seventeen the second half. You know, this past week and sucks.
They score seventeen in the first half, don't score in
the second half, and so that's.
Speaker 3 (12:44):
Kind of it's frustrating to watch. And you've got Justin
Herbert now nurse and get another injury with his you know,
left ankle sprain.
Speaker 5 (12:50):
He had a right high ankle.
Speaker 3 (12:51):
Sprain earlier in the season. He has knee swelling in
his left knee as a left side confusion. He also
had a plan for fashion injury in training camp. So
he's been banged up.
Speaker 5 (12:58):
All year, and so I think they're frustrated. I don't
know how they're how optimistic they are about this offense
turning things around.
Speaker 3 (13:04):
I think they were able to rely.
Speaker 5 (13:07):
On the defense for most of the year, but that
now has.
Speaker 3 (13:11):
Gone up in the air.
Speaker 5 (13:12):
After their worst game of the season against the Bucks.
Speaker 3 (13:14):
So I think the temperature is probably frustrated and rather
uncertain about how good this team really is. And that's
why I think it's a big game.
Speaker 5 (13:22):
Internally, but also for the fan base as well.
Speaker 3 (13:25):
You know what is this team?
Speaker 5 (13:26):
And I think that the fans are probably gonna find
out in one way or another against the Broncos on.
Speaker 1 (13:30):
Thursday Night Talk with Daniel Popper last one for me, Daniel,
I don't think any team would ever pack it in.
Speaker 2 (13:35):
But if you look at the remaining games on.
Speaker 1 (13:37):
The schedule for the Chargers, You're at New England, You're
at Las Vegas. Those are winnable games to wrap up
the season. If this thing gets out of hand early
or they get behind early, is this a situation where
you just pull guys, you start resting them, and you
prepare for that final two game push.
Speaker 5 (13:52):
I mean, I guess it's possible.
Speaker 3 (13:53):
I would be surprised if it gets away from them
early like that. Just considering what happens Sunday and the
feeling in that locker room and how badly guys want
to put that behind them and get that taste out
of their mouth. I think you're gonna get a highly
motivated group.
Speaker 5 (14:08):
I think, you know, when you consider these last two games, you.
Speaker 3 (14:11):
Don't necessarily want those games to be high pressure. I
think if you can win this game against the Broncos,
then you only need to get one of the last two.
If you win too in a row, and you beat
the Broncos and you win at the Patriots, then you
could potentially look into maybe resting starters.
Speaker 5 (14:25):
In that finale in Las Vegas. So I got a
sense this one's going to be close. But in the
scenario that.
Speaker 3 (14:31):
You posed, I think it's probably.
Speaker 5 (14:32):
A consideration, but I don't see that as a likely scenario.
Speaker 1 (14:35):
Well, Dani, you're looking forward to this game on Thursday night,
it should be It should be a doozy A nice
to have a Chargers Broncos game mean something this late
in the season.
Speaker 3 (14:43):
Brother absolutely couldn't agree more. Thanks for having me on YEP.
Speaker 2 (14:47):
Take care, Daniel Popper.
Speaker 1 (14:48):
Any time we got Chargers questions, we always go to
the man himself and and get the skinny and get
the scoop when we come back Recattle the week there
was with Grant Smith.
Speaker 2 (14:58):
It's in the Broncos Country night, Eryka Broccolo's Country Tonight.
I've been to Albroy Grantsmith here with you.
Speaker 1 (15:07):
Thanks to Daniel Popper for joining us in the last segment,
Ryan Michael for joining us in the last hour, and
Steve Atwater in the first hour.

Speaker 3 (15:24):
Well.
Speaker 2 (15:24):
You can also get to.
Speaker 1 (15:25):
Take It for Granted podcast with a new episode coming
in January.
Speaker 6 (15:28):
January thirteenth, it has been decided decided.
Speaker 1 (15:35):
I got a weird text message earlier in the show
from somebody who would be in the know, and this
is outside my lane. I am not a Nuggets insider,
but I got a weird text message from from somebody
who would know, and they told me that the Denver
(15:56):
Nuggets are looking for a score to add to take
some of the load off Nikola Jokic. And that score
that they're looking at is Zach Levine of the Chicago
Bulls in a in a situation that would involve them
moving Michael Porter Junior and probably Dario Sarich.
Speaker 2 (16:19):
I don't like it to get Zach Levine back.
Speaker 1 (16:21):
You say, Zach does not gonna excuse me, Zach Grant
does not like this move?
Speaker 2 (16:29):
What do you not like about it?
Speaker 6 (16:31):
I just think the only thing the Nuggets really need
are some shooters that can knock down some shots. Well,
Zach Levine's not that guy. He's a drive and score guy.
Speaker 1 (16:39):
Right, So you add and Levine's averaging twenty one point
seven on thirty three minutes this year, decent reboun or
four four US at four point to a sisper game.
If you if you bring in Levine, you move Broad
of the bench, and you're probably put in Strawther or
Peyton Watson and platooning those guys that the three.
Speaker 2 (16:58):
Strawther certainly can it from the perimeter. I do like Strauther.
Speaker 6 (17:02):
He's look good, but I think MPJ would put those
same numbers up in Chicago.
Speaker 2 (17:05):
Right.
Speaker 1 (17:06):
Well, I think he is what he is. I think
he's a spot up shooter. That is what it is.
I think you need to get stronger at the guard.
I'm just not sure how you do it without moving
Jamal Murray.
Speaker 6 (17:15):
Yeah, and I don't want to move Tomal Murray either.
I think it's too early to blow this thing up.
Speaker 1 (17:19):
If you move Murray, that probably puts Westbrook into the
starting lineup, and then you're really struggling for a bench
because you're putting at that point you moved Murray for
for h Levine, let's say in this particular case. Yeah,
now you've got a line up that's Westbrook, Levine, Porter, Junior, Gordon,
and Yokich and your team is you're starting five.
Speaker 2 (17:40):
Yeah.
Speaker 6 (17:40):
And the biggest issue with the Nuggets right now, I think.
Speaker 2 (17:43):
Is, so, you know, I'm not sure.
Speaker 1 (17:46):
I don't know if there's more to this than that.
You know, I don't know, I don't know if that
would be the start of something, and I don't know
that that's one hundred percent of something is.
Speaker 2 (17:55):
Gonna get done.
Speaker 1 (17:55):
But this person that texted me this is somebody who
would be definitively and if his to know and.
Speaker 2 (18:03):
For that interests me that.
Speaker 1 (18:05):
The Nuggets are currently looking at a zach lavine for
Michael Porter, then there may be other pieces involved her.
They didn't really get super specific with the rest of.
Speaker 2 (18:11):
It, but that is that is fascinating to me.
Speaker 6 (18:14):
So yeah, I think I think the most interesting part
of this story is that they're looking to move some
of their big pieces.
Speaker 2 (18:20):
Well, I'm looking for a scorer.
Speaker 1 (18:22):
Right, uh no, And he specifically texted scorer, not shooter.
Speaker 2 (18:26):
So that's that's fascinating to me.
Speaker 1 (18:27):
Maybe they do feel like that Strawther can be that
guy at the three.
Speaker 6 (18:32):
Don't do it, Nuggets, don't do it. I mean Porter,
Porter cut He is what he is, which is the
perfect fit for this.
Speaker 2 (18:38):
Team kind of. But I mean, I think the piece
you got to move to me is Murray. I don't know.
Do you see that game winner he hit last night?
Speaker 5 (18:46):
Yeah?
Speaker 1 (18:46):
But I mean still is he suddenly coming back rounding
back into form here?
Speaker 2 (18:50):
I hope. So we'll see, We'll see. I don't know.
Speaker 1 (18:54):
Anyway, it was an interesting week in the NFL thus far,
mister Smith. It certainly was starting off with a barn
burner of thurstay nins as it burned the barn, the television.
Speaker 2 (19:09):
In the field, and both these teams.
Speaker 1 (19:11):
A six field goal matchup between the Los Angeles Rams
and San Francisco.
Speaker 2 (19:15):
Forty nine ers.
Speaker 7 (19:16):
Cardi eyes the upright says he's ready, here's the snap
ball down, The kick is on the way.
Speaker 2 (19:21):
It is good.
Speaker 7 (19:22):
Cardi is four for four and the La Rams have
taken a twelve to six lead with eighteen seconds to go.
The Rams are on their way to a third straight win.
Speaker 6 (19:32):
Only field goal highlights in that one. That courtesy of
Westwood One and Ryan Radkey.
Speaker 1 (19:37):
Yeah, you know it's a bad game when we have
to highlight a field goal in order to SoundBite. Moving
on from that as quickly as possible the game. I
thought the Cleveland Browns would be a lot more competitive
in they were not. Kansas City Chiefs twenty one, Cleveland
Browns seven.
Speaker 2 (19:51):
In this one, where are the lines up in the backfield?
With Kareem Hunt first and ten play? They swing it
on the near flat with a screen.
Speaker 7 (19:57):
Forty fifteen to ten touch down cans Uh City on
a swing screen to the near side, New Xavier Worthy.
Speaker 1 (20:08):
Jamis interceptions continue to haunt the Browns.
Speaker 6 (20:11):
Yeah, Matt call courtesy of Mitch Holtis and man, what
a game for the thiefs man. They just keep finding
ways to win.
Speaker 2 (20:18):
W daf Mitch Holtis that they do by the way,
that got Jamis benched.
Speaker 1 (20:22):
And Dory Thompson Robinson's gonna be the quarterback for the Browns.
Cowboys at the Panthers in the first game. The Carolina
Panthers have been favored in in quite some time.
Speaker 2 (20:32):
How did it go?
Speaker 7 (20:33):
Snapped a Rush looking left looking looking standing now rolling
outside the right scramble, Drill.
Speaker 5 (20:39):
Throws it in the end up.
Speaker 7 (20:41):
The ball is caught by Brandon cut in the by
Jalen Brooks, sorry Jalen Brooks for a touchdown.
Speaker 6 (20:50):
That call courtesy of Brad Sham k r LD and
Cooper Rush doing what Dak Prescott couldn't get in some wins.
Speaker 1 (20:57):
Yeah, speaking of shams, the Carolina Panthers that came into
that as a to an half point favorite wound up
losing that game thirty to fourteen in a game that
probably wasn't even as.
Speaker 2 (21:06):
Close as the score.
Speaker 1 (21:08):
Dolphins taking on the Texans in a must win.
Speaker 2 (21:11):
Game for Miami, and yet.
Speaker 1 (21:14):
Tua takes the snap tour with pressure, throwing Kaffield to.
Speaker 4 (21:18):
His right hand, intercept that Stanley again, that's gonna do it.
The Texans are gonna beat Miami. Stanley's second pick seals
the deal, shields the deal, Mark vandmir On Kilt and
good news for the Broncos with the Dolphins losing, seals
the deals nowhere near the right between the eyes from
(21:38):
our own Mark Johnson.
Speaker 1 (21:39):
So Jets taking on the Jaguars. After Aaron Rodgers guarantee
of victory.
Speaker 4 (21:45):
Rogers back to throw well protected.
Speaker 7 (21:47):
Fires one up the sea for Adam tried at the
thirty not.
Speaker 3 (21:51):
The twenty ten.
Speaker 2 (21:53):
The like spins gets touchdown.
Speaker 5 (21:57):
That's a Jet touchdown.
Speaker 6 (22:00):
Yeah, and Aaron Rodgers needed all of DeVante adams huge
game to get that guaranteed. When that call courtesy of
Bob with Shues and with wax Q.
Speaker 1 (22:08):
Wound up being a guaranteed loss for my fantasy team
running up against the Jabberwaukee that was DeVante Adams and
Jared Goff. Despite putting up a healthy number myself, I
still got clown hammered in the iHeart League and him
officially eliminated from fantasy playoff contention. Our good buddies at
the Washington Commanders taking on the New Orleans Saints. They
(22:30):
play action Robinson Dagles that looks fires into the edd
that that one.
Speaker 2 (22:33):
It's caught Terry McLaurin for the second time. Touch old
touch down Washington.
Speaker 6 (22:38):
That game got pretty interesting at the end. Call courtesy
of Bram Weinstein with Wbig did get very into Assante.
Speaker 1 (22:46):
The Commanders raced out to a lead and then couldn't
hang on to it as the Saints made a quarterback
switch from Jake Hayner to Spencer Ratler and came roaring back.
Speaker 2 (22:54):
Wasn't enough In the NN Washington wins.
Speaker 1 (22:57):
Twenty nineteen, Baltimore Ravens take on the New York Giants
and the biggest spread of the season at sixteen and
a half.
Speaker 6 (23:05):
Let's pressure coming of Lamar throat to check twenty fifteenth.
Speaker 7 (23:10):
Ten five Hill in the end oled Hazel the Bard
had the right of them.
Speaker 2 (23:14):
Knocked out the Giants.
Speaker 6 (23:16):
Yeah, and they covered best spread. That call courtesy of
Jerry with a G. Sandusky with W B A L.
Speaker 8 (23:23):
Yeah.
Speaker 1 (23:23):
We've got to differentiate there. That's that's an important distinction
to make. Bengals taking on the Titanes, Levis under center,
takes a handoff to Pollard, wants to throw fires.
Speaker 2 (23:33):
Hold baby, start radio back.
Speaker 1 (23:35):
Gino's at the twenty five twenty battling front to block.
Speaker 2 (23:39):
He's to the Yeah, the five through the dull line
touchdown Dungles, Oh, I love that called the color he is.
Speaker 6 (23:48):
Dave Lapham on that one, always stepping on Dan.
Speaker 2 (23:50):
Horde, w C k Y and the Bengals food Hey.
Speaker 1 (23:54):
Baby, thirty seven to twenty seven win, and that'll do
it for Will Levis, the mayonnaise man for the Titan,
Mason Rudolph, we'll be starting for the Titans going forward,
doing the Patriots at the Arizona Cardinals Cardinals.
Speaker 2 (24:09):
Cardinals are the first and go on the one pistol snap.
Murray has a handoff potter straight ahead touchdown. James Connor
two touchdowns here.
Speaker 5 (24:17):
On the court.
Speaker 6 (24:18):
That call courtesy of Dave Pash with Kate MVP wondering.
Speaker 1 (24:21):
If head coach Sean Gannon can keep the Arizona Cardinals
in contention.
Speaker 2 (24:26):
They're not currently in the wildcard.
Speaker 1 (24:28):
But they're very close, just a couple of games back,
tied with Atlanta right now, one game behind Seattle, two
games behind Washington. In that one, Bill's taking on the
Lions and the offensive anti rams Niners game for the week,
Alan in the shotgun.
Speaker 2 (24:44):
Here's the snaphot second.
Speaker 4 (24:45):
And goal and it's an Alan keeper and he sails
into the end zone on a four yard touchdown run.
Speaker 3 (24:52):
Oh my, was that easy?
Speaker 5 (24:54):
Man?
Speaker 6 (24:55):
Josh Allen on a tear these past couple of weeks.
That call courtesy of Chris Brown.
Speaker 1 (24:59):
With w I had Josh Allen my opponent had Jared Goff,
who somehow was worth more Fantasy points and absolutely continued,
I'm still bitter about that. Whatever Bucks taking on the Chargers.
We talked about this one already. Skate was closed at
halftime Chargers had a lead, and then the Bucks showed up.
Speaker 2 (25:14):
God Gun looked the past Heyfield looking those of ball
daut Field toward Evans. He makes the counts touch hut Tampa.
Speaker 1 (25:20):
Bay Buccaneers with Buck Kevins two catches in the Promised
Land today.
Speaker 2 (25:25):
What a throw by Mayfield on third out a dozen.
Those Bucks are looking dangerous.
Speaker 6 (25:29):
That call courtesy of Gene decker Hoff at w f
US Chargers of three point favorites in that wound up
losing by twenty three points.
Speaker 2 (25:37):
Charges course taking the Broncos. Thursday night Steelers at the Eagles.
Speaker 1 (25:42):
I had Philly in this one with Vic Fangio taken
on Russ Wilson, Hurts and the gun aj Brown out
to the far side play lots Hurst. This good backs
up looks fire complete, Hey, Jay Brown and the back
of a gool.
Speaker 6 (25:56):
Looks like a J. Brown and Jalen Hurts are getting
along just fine. That performance on Sunday, that call courtesy
of Merril Reese with WIP.
Speaker 2 (26:04):
Yeah, that one was.
Speaker 1 (26:08):
Philly was in control of that and I fully expected
to be Philadelphia probably in the NFC for the Super Bowl.
I think that team has just got a destiny thing
going on. No collapse this year, No collapse this year.
We'll see, We'll see it's made of collapsing. The REBA
Packers Seattle Seahawks. The Packers were at the Seahawks, and
a lot of people thought the Seahawks put a more
fight than this.
Speaker 2 (26:27):
They did. Shut dunst that well. Books rolls up a
little puff by.
Speaker 7 (26:31):
Talks inside the five Private Candy episode touch that Packers
Romeo Dobbs maybe the catch and took a defender for
the ride all the way in the ensode That.
Speaker 6 (26:43):
Call courtesy of Ryan Rakey with Westwood One and Man
Packers fans at Seattle go, Pat go chance you could
hear on the broadcast. That's how field advantage doesn't seem.
Speaker 2 (26:54):
To be quite the same these days.
Speaker 1 (26:55):
And yeah, twelfth Man not showing up in that one
for the Seattle Seahawks. And you know, Ryan Grubb, who
started this season off with was a hot name for
continuing upwards on his career might be one and done
as an NFL coordinator, throwing the ball too much there
at Seattle, Gino Smith getting hurt and it's just Seattle
who looks so promising for a minute.
Speaker 2 (27:14):
They're not so much anymore. Two Monday night games, neither
of which was particularly interesting.
Speaker 1 (27:19):
We'll start off with the lesser offending game of the two,
and that would be the Bears at the Minnesota Vikings.
Bears actually had a shot in this one for a
little while, but the Vikings and that defense in the
end too much.
Speaker 8 (27:31):
First and goal, Chicago seventh receiver Naylor in motion, there's
the Smith, The fake hand of propping back Garner, which
is right on placed us down a two head and
human high crab by.
Speaker 2 (27:43):
Justin Jefferson Westwood won.
Speaker 6 (27:47):
Kevin Harlan on the call, and man, I liked your
thoughts earlier. Sam Darnold comeback player of the year. I
think he's locked it up. Kind of feels like it.
Speaker 1 (27:54):
At this point, the Chicago Bears have not really scored much,
not gain many yards, and not really done much anything
since Thomas Brown has been promoted first offensive coordinator and
then to head coach.
Speaker 2 (28:04):
In the interim. Might be the general manager next week.
Speaker 1 (28:06):
At the rate they're going, the Bears just don't have
any They fired her head coach, They don't have the
guy who ran the offense, the guy who.
Speaker 2 (28:12):
Ran the defense aren't aren't there anymore. They they just
look like a shell of themselves. I don't even know
why they're working Caleb Williams out at this point. It
looks bad. He's running around looking like it reminds you
a lot of Drew Locke. That's what it does.
Speaker 1 (28:22):
It looks like a baby giraffe running around trying to
make plays and just not able to because he's got
no talent around him and.
Speaker 2 (28:27):
No time to do it. And he took some massive
shots in that game.
Speaker 6 (28:30):
I mean that Vikings defense is something O don't it is.
Speaker 1 (28:33):
I think they're I'm looking forward to a Minnesota Philly
game in the playoffs, really want to see that.
Speaker 2 (28:37):
And then what might have been the most boring.
Speaker 1 (28:40):
Game of NFL football I can recall seeing. And just
Thursday night we had a six field goal game in
the Rams and the San Francisco forty nine ers. The
Las Vegas Raiders took on the Atlanta Falcons in a
game that Kirk Cousins looks washed and the Raiders looks well.
Speaker 2 (28:54):
Frankly terrible. Cousins looking down the right side line.
Speaker 4 (28:57):
Why don't put his drake under at the far I
don't walk in for six?
Speaker 1 (29:02):
Kirk Cousins with his first touchdown pass in five games
and the easiest one maybe he's had all season.
Speaker 6 (29:11):
And maybe his last of the season as he's been
been for Michael Pennix.
Speaker 2 (29:15):
That called courtesy of Kevin Coogler for Westwood One.
Speaker 1 (29:18):
The Atlanta announces Michael Pax Junior will be the quarterback
going forward, calling it a football decision. If you look
at what the Falcons can do with that contract, it's
basically going to have to be a post tune one
deal similar to what happened with Russell Wilson here in
Denver in order to get rid of that.
Speaker 2 (29:34):
That's assuming that Pennix comply.
Speaker 1 (29:36):
Cousins never quite looked the same after starting all fairly
hot against some bad defenses early for Atlanta. Never looked
the same from the midway point, and like the announcers
made mention of it, that's his.
Speaker 2 (29:47):
First touchdown in five games. Brutal. Yeah, you know, the
collapse comes quick all the time.
Speaker 1 (29:55):
Comes quick in the NFL, and certainly you know Kirk Cousins,
who lungs in the finesse Hall of Fame, the business
Hall of Fame, getting that money man man, that guy
has made an absurd amount of money in the NFL
over the years, and he was one of the guys
that was manipulating the franchise tag. Just kept signing those
things back when they let you do three or four
of them, and right, you know, he just kept signing
them for you guys.
Speaker 2 (30:15):
That money. Yeah, secure that back. I am mad at him.
