Speaker 1 (00:00):
Hope you guys had a good Christmas. So if you
guys had had a good holiday, had a good week.

Speaker 2 (00:05):
Zach, did you uh did you get every present that
you asked Santa for?

Speaker 1 (00:09):
Yeah? I I I made out like a band It
must have been good. This we made out with a
Bandit what must have been must have been on the
nice list this year. I I asked for a silence,
peace and quiet. It was all that I hoped it
could be. Got everything that I wish. Now, I'm just kidding.
It was it was all right. Mine was all right.

Speaker 2 (00:24):
I I was hoping to get to see family. I'm
gonna that's actually gonna get delayed on it the end
of the month of January. You know how that stuff
goes when you you get to be a senior citizen
like me, not a not a.

Speaker 1 (00:33):
Fresh, well quaffed young man like Zach. Over here? How
was How's nose? Arachi?

Speaker 2 (00:38):
Did you end up seeing it on Christmas Day? I
ended up not seeing it on Christmas Day? I am
going to see it this Uh, what is it Monday?

Speaker 1 (00:44):
I think so sounds good. I'm excited for that one personally.

Speaker 2 (00:47):
Yeah, I'm a big fan of you know, we both
are fans of Robert Eggers, so that any think if
you guys want to hang out a little bit though
tomorrow Broncos Buff's football. We got react here on this
show on this station. But from two to four myself,
Nick Ferguson will be at the Mill downtown. It's like
right across the street from Scruffy Murphy's over there on

(01:08):
Larimer Street, and food and drink specials in autograph football
to give way. It's all presided by Don Julio. Would
love to see you guys down as the last one
we're gonna do this year. So if you guys wanted
to get a chance to do that kind of stuff,
it'd the last one what we get to do this year.
And looking forward to seeing you guys out there too,
you know, to do that. We've enjoyed starting that up
this year. We're gonna expand on that, I think hopefully

(01:30):
next year.

Speaker 1 (01:30):
And like I said, really a good time. Get out
there and get a chance to watch the football.

Speaker 2 (01:34):
Just commiserate together when they're down, celebrate together when they're winning,
and and you know, you guys have just to win
an autograph football. Take pictures with Nick Ferguson. I will
hold the camera because nobody wants me in those pictures. Somebody,
like somebody seriously, somebody seriously did ask me to autograph
their football, Like you want me to devalue this football? Really,

(01:58):
you want me to have my signature on football and
drive the value through the floor because nobody's paying for that.

Speaker 1 (02:04):
Yeah, they were trying to do some identity stuff right there.

Speaker 2 (02:08):
That's on the explanation, right, Yeah, I get a copy
of my signature.

Speaker 1 (02:10):
Maybe, you know, do some fake credit cards or so.
I don't know. Five six six nine zero is the text.

Speaker 2 (02:15):
Line, looking for looking for all, uh, you guys' conversation,
your thoughts on this game.

Speaker 1 (02:19):
I'm I'm I'm work man, I'm worried.

Speaker 2 (02:21):
I'm really worried about this game. And I don't want
to be wet blanket gataway doom and gloom guy, but
I'm worried.

Speaker 1 (02:26):
I am worried about this uh.

Speaker 2 (02:28):
And I think, you know, it's the you know, if
the Broncos clinch, I think it's going to be a
backup fest against the Chiefs. If the Broncos don't clinch,
I feel like Kansas City could run their starters out
there for probably the first.

Speaker 1 (02:40):
Half of that game.

Speaker 2 (02:42):
And so that's that's one of those things that I
don't know, I'm just a little bit worried about. They
don't get it done against the Bengals. I really wanted
to get it done against the Chargers, but you know,
there there were too many mistakes she had coaching mistakes
in terms of what they did at the end the
first half. In the second half, we we we've maybe
mistakes on defense, We got too many penalties and inopportune spots,

(03:04):
just not getting the run game and we needed to
be running it. It was just, you know, just too
many mistakes. So we got to we gotta clean that
up on the road at the Cincinnati Bengals, one of
the most high octane offenses in the league, and that'll
be you know, and that'll be interesting to see how
that goes. But I want to hear your thoughts on it.
I know what my thoughts are on I know my
own Nevosa in this particular instance, I want to hear

(03:27):
what you guys have to say.

Speaker 1 (03:28):
We got a big show tonight.

Speaker 2 (03:30):
Mike Petroglia from the Jungle Broward podcast is going to
join us at eight o five. Get a chance to
hear the Cincinnati Bengals side of things. And I always
love getting opposing perspectives, man. I think it either helps
strengthen your own or helps you reassess your own.

Speaker 1 (03:41):
So I always love, you know, hearing people that.

Speaker 2 (03:45):
You know, honestly disagree with me, because I don't know
that Mike particularly disagrees with me, but certainly has the
Cincinnati perspectives. Since they covered the team, you had a
chance to get in depth there.

Speaker 1 (03:52):
Frankie Abbott from.

Speaker 2 (03:53):
Let's Talk Broncos at seven oh five, you be back
to doing the Friday night local spotlight.

Speaker 1 (03:58):
Man, we missed doing that.

Speaker 2 (04:00):
Ryan Edwards and I used to do that quite a
bit back in the day. We tried to try to
get back a little bit and try to try to,
you know, have on some of you guys that they
are up and coming in this industry.

Speaker 1 (04:08):
They're a little bit younger, you know.

Speaker 2 (04:10):
Zach I think was even featured in one of those
if I remember correctly, I could be wrong on that.

Speaker 3 (04:15):
A good handful of them, I think, yeah, yeah, yeah,
definitely helped me out early on.

Speaker 1 (04:19):
Well, that's the thing, and that's one of those.

Speaker 2 (04:20):
Things I've always you know, as I sat this week
and I was I was assessing things.

Speaker 1 (04:24):
About you know what it is that I'm doing, what
I've been doing, what I want to continue doing. That's
one of the things I want to do.

Speaker 2 (04:29):
I want to make sure that you know that my
legacy in this industry, which those of you who know
me from Twitter is shot. But the rest of you
that don't know me from Twitter, you know that my
legacy in this in this space is somebody that helped
elevate everybody around him. You know that it wanted to
be the type of person that that elevates the people

(04:49):
around him, and I want to I want to make
sure that's kind of my I don't really do New
Year's resolutions per se, but that's sort of what I
came to this week, is a New Year's resolution on
top of getting healthy. This is going to be the
year I'm going to get back to I'll tell that
story a second, but I want to make sure I
do that. I used to be in good shape. I
used to be a really good shape.

Speaker 1 (05:07):
You know.

Speaker 2 (05:07):
Pinnacle Bin was probably twenty ten to twenty thirteen when
I still was at that point, I was.

Speaker 1 (05:12):
Getting out of the was getting out of the Army Reserve.

Speaker 2 (05:15):
At that point, and I was the US Army Master
Fitness Trainer.

Speaker 1 (05:19):
I mean I was just I was in the best
shape of my life.

Speaker 2 (05:21):
And I've spent the last I don't know, ten to
eleven years whatever just absolutely destroying everything I did to
build to that point with fast food, horrible diet and
making sure that I did not ever work out in
any meaningful way at as shows. And so I'm at
the point now where I want to try to this year.

Speaker 1 (05:41):
This is this is my thing this year.

Speaker 2 (05:42):
So I'm gonna I'm going to get myself back to
as close to that as I can, just to see
if I can do it at forty four years old
and kind of go from there.

Speaker 1 (05:50):
Admirable goals.

Speaker 3 (05:51):
I think those are good, if not New Year's Resolutions
goals for the upcoming year to set well.

Speaker 2 (05:56):
I mean that's you know, like I said, I don't
really do like the resolution kind of thing or what ever,
but I am gonna.

Speaker 1 (06:01):
I'm gonna put that in. That is my goal.

Speaker 2 (06:02):
That's my my coaching game plan as it were if
I was a coach. That's my game plan. That's my uh,
that's what I want to want to do.

Speaker 1 (06:09):
Uh. This game is gonna have some interesting matchups.

Speaker 2 (06:13):
We're gonna have some some just some fascinating matchups in
this Broncos Bengals game. You've got Patzertannegas, Jamar, Chase Riley Moss.

Speaker 1 (06:22):
Is going to be back. He's gonna be on t Higgins.

Speaker 2 (06:25):
You know, you got to figure out the Chase Brown
situation because he might be one of those underrated full
service backs in the league right now. I Oh, by
the way, they've got a couple of tight ends that
can that can move to and those have always been
a tough spot in advanced Joseph defense. So I want
to know what matchup scares you guys the most. I

(06:45):
want to know what matchup you're the most confident in.
You know, I don't think and I haven't spent a
lot of time talking about the Cincinnati defense because really
they're not good. Uh, their defense is frankly bad. They've got,
you know, two players on defense. I think that would
start most places, and the rest of them probably wouldn't.
I don't think they've They've had some injury and attrition,

(07:05):
and that's part of the problem there.

Speaker 1 (07:07):
Lou Anrumo, the defensive.

Speaker 2 (07:08):
Coordinator, gets a lot of bad press, but lou On
Room has been around the league a long time and
he hasn't forgotten how to coach. They just don't have
the horses right now, and they can't go out in
the free They have to.

Speaker 1 (07:19):
Hit on draft picks. They literally have to hit on
draft picks.

Speaker 2 (07:21):
You can't go out on the free agent market because
they've paid all that money to Joe Burrow and the
Jay Higgins and you know, all this kind of they've
paid all this money and they don't have any money
for the defense. It's all you know, on on the
offensive side of the ball. And so that's the reason
that they've had to let guys go. It's the reason
Jesse Bates isn't there anymore, and it's it's the reason
they've had.

Speaker 1 (07:40):
To had to let guys go.

Speaker 2 (07:42):
And so their defense is not very good. But what
they try to be, or what they want to be,
is opportunistic. They want to be a defense that just
generates turnovers and allows their offense to steal an extra possession.
Their ideal offense is their ideal defense, rather is their
offense putting together a six minute, seven minute drive that's

(08:02):
that's going downfield and putting points on the board. That's
that's what it is. It's it's it reminds you in
a lot of ways, the philosophically from a from a
bird's eye view, not necessarily in the minutia and how
they play, but it will remind you philosophically a little
bit of Peyton Manning with the Cults during the bad
defensive years. You know, they have the one pass rusher,
Dwight Fern. You they get the one pass rusher, you know,
in Hendrickson, but they don't really have a whole lot else.

(08:26):
Everything's on the offensive side of the ball, whether it
was Peyton Manning and Edgar and James and Marvin Harrison
and Reggie Wayne and Dallas Clark and we can go
on and on. You know, it's it's sort of the
same setup in Cincinnati, and then they're hoping to be
able to do that. They're also red hot right now.
They started the season, they had some unfortunate losses. They
are a team that is absolutely better than the record.

(08:47):
And there's the old adage, the parcels adage, and we
know the reverence that they cold spill parcels in, but
there's the adage that you are what your record says.

Speaker 1 (08:55):
You are.

Speaker 2 (08:56):
In the Bengals case, that's just not true. I mean,
the Bengals have four losses this season, four in which
the offense has put up thirty points.

Speaker 1 (09:05):
They put that in perspective.

Speaker 2 (09:06):
The rest of the league combines has three losses in
which the offense has put up thirty points and still lost.
That's how that's how bad the defense has been versus
you know, how good the offense has been there. And
so that's one of those ones that you just gotta uh,
you know, you got to look at this and definitely
do not underestimate what it is that they bring to

(09:29):
the table, because they will you let them get a
step in the boat race.

Speaker 1 (09:32):
You They love to they love to run the hitch
on early downs.

Speaker 2 (09:38):
And when you start biting down on that, then they
give you that double move.

Speaker 1 (09:42):
You know, they'll give you that double move with Higgins or.

Speaker 2 (09:44):
Chase or one of those guys, and you know, and
that's what they that's.

Speaker 1 (09:48):
What they play for. That's what they want to do.
They want to get you.

Speaker 2 (09:50):
They want to get themselves ahead of the chains on
early downs and then when you bite on it, they
want to take that deep shot. And they've got guys
that can work the middle of the field. Like I said,
Chase Brown has to do it all back. He can
catch out of the backfield too. They've got a couple
of tight ends there. They've got guys like Drew Sample,
They've got Guesseki and they use Yashovic out of the
out of the slot. They've they've got some guys that

(10:11):
can they can move the middle of the field around
as well.

Speaker 1 (10:13):
So it's it's really really a talented offense.

Speaker 2 (10:15):
It's going to be fascinating to watch that offense up
against the Broncos defense, which, while very very talented, has
showed a few cracks over the last few weeks.

Speaker 3 (10:24):
Yeah, it's a scary matchup for the Broncos because, I mean,
you feel good about the cornerback play, especially with Riley
Moss coming back. But this is you know, probably the
most potent group of receivers in the league. So they're
going to be able to challenge this group of corners.
And you highlighted what these tight ends and running backs
could do with Chase Brown, who you know, he's become
an all round back, but he got.

Speaker 1 (10:43):
His start being a really potent receiving back.

Speaker 3 (10:45):
And you got Mike Gasiki, who's a pretty limited blocker
but a very athletic, dynamic receiver. And this linebacking group
for the Denver Broncos, the guys normally tasked with covering
those tight ends or running backs are when they've been targed.
These last two weeks, they have allowed quarterbacks to go
sixteen to seventeen for eleven yards or sorry, twelve yards

(11:06):
per attempt.

Speaker 1 (11:08):
It's terrible. Yeah, the beg Uals.

Speaker 2 (11:11):
Have had you know, they were not They were on
the border of being eliminated, and then they railed off
three in a row in December to get themselves back
into conversation. Although the teams they beat, as one of
the people on our text line points out, we're all
starting non starting quarterbacks and frankly, we're bad teams. They
beat Dallas, they beat Tennessee, they beat Cleveland. Now they

(11:31):
beat those teams rather convincingly, but you know, none of
those teams are very good. They lost forty four to
They scored thirty eight points at lost to the Steelers.
That was on December first, twenty seven against the Chargers,
and loss scored thirty four at Baltimore and lost lost
that one by one.

Speaker 1 (11:48):
Thirty five, thirty four. They did beat.

Speaker 2 (11:51):
The Raiders convincingly, lost to Philadelphia by twenty and that
was one of the worst. They had a stretch there
where they just weren't getting, you know, a lot of offense.
That they still won two out of those three. They
won at the Giants and at Cleveland and then lost
to Philadelphia.

Speaker 1 (12:07):
They only scored twenty one and seventeen in those games.

Speaker 2 (12:09):
They scored thirty eight against Baltimore, lost that one, And.

Speaker 1 (12:13):
That brings up just an interesting, you know interesting thing.

Speaker 2 (12:16):
You scored thirty eight and thirty four points in two
different games against Baltimore, lost both of them.

Speaker 1 (12:21):
How often does that happen?

Speaker 2 (12:23):
I mean never You scored seventy two points across two
games with the team and lost both games. Is that
is an impressive number. And they started the season off
some unfortunate losses. They lost to New England of all
to start the season, sixteen to ten, and the bizarre
you know, I wish you could have it back now
type game they lost at Kansas City by one point

(12:44):
twenty six, twenty five. They lost to Washington by five
points thirty eight, thirty three. It's just you know, the
Bengals have been a team that just has not particularly
played defense.

Speaker 1 (12:52):
Well, they've won the last three games.

Speaker 2 (12:54):
They've still scored points all They took their foot off
the break against Cleveland, but they've.

Speaker 1 (12:57):
Had a little bit of defense in that game.

Speaker 2 (12:59):
But as again the textra points out non starting quarterbacks
when you're playing Cooper Rush and Mason Rudolph and Dora
and Thompson Robinson. Not exactly a murderer's row of quarterbacks
there that they were up against. Five six, six nine
zero is the text line. Quite a few, quite a
few texts coming in here. Two more forces. I appreciate

(13:20):
you showing up today doing your job and your entire
staff it's putting on the show. Well, thank you, and
I appreciate everybody that makes this show possible and ludeing
you guys listening.

Speaker 1 (13:30):
You never underestimate your opponent. That's from Stacy in Utah.

Speaker 2 (13:34):
Look good, play good number Broadcast for Life. The three
six oh says Zach was first on here talking crap
about Russ and it was a laughing emoji.

Speaker 3 (13:45):
Hey, I was first on here talking crap about Drew Locke.
Let it be no, that is actually facts. I remember
that that is you date back that that far.

Speaker 2 (13:52):
They just remember you from from your Twitter handle at
Broncos quarterback hater five.

Speaker 3 (13:58):
So hey, I'm not hating on uh BO like once
they got once they got a decent quarterback. Hey, suddenly
my criticism disappeared.

Speaker 1 (14:06):
Maybe the problem was Russell Wilson and Drew Locke. I
love it. I love it. Never was the Drew lock thing.

Speaker 2 (14:13):
It was funny because a lot of people don't realize
that was a bit back in the day, which I
thought it was pretty obvious when we were advocating for
a centaur statue with Drew Locke's face on it.

Speaker 1 (14:20):
But yeah, that was a that was a fun bit
for for a number.

Speaker 2 (14:24):
And frustrating, I think to people that did not get
that it was a bit, because.

Speaker 1 (14:27):
How are these guys pumping this guy up. Drew was
one of those guys that and the first time I
ever spoke to him was at the Senior Bowl that year.
He was.

Speaker 2 (14:39):
Late for something, or thought he was late for something,
and it turned out he was actually an hour early,
and so I ended up talking to him in the
hall for for almost an hour. And as I was
talked to God, I hope they draft this guy just
because he's just fun to talk.

Speaker 1 (14:50):
He's like dude that you just want to just like,
let's go play dude.

Speaker 2 (14:53):
Like He's one of those guys that when you start
talking to he just has that charisma that you just
you know.

Speaker 1 (14:59):
And so I it was one of those things.

Speaker 2 (15:00):
Where I hoped that that would work out for him.
But you know, in the end, obviously, I think we
all saw. I think he got put in some situations
that were less than ideal, and we certainly saw a
Broncos coaching staff beat the love of football out of
him that final season. It was interesting because I and
to this day, I still think he won that quarterback
competition against Teddy Bridgewater, even though the deck was stacked

(15:22):
in Teddy's favor because they wanted Teddy Bridgewater. That isn't
to say that he would have been suddenly successful or
any that kind of stuff, but it was his career
may have gone differently. I didn't like him going to
the Giants in the off season.

Speaker 1 (15:36):
I thought that was a horrible move.

Speaker 2 (15:38):
I thought he should have stuck with Seattle, you know,
stayed in that backup role and he would have had opportunities.
Geno has not exactly been fully healthy all year, every year,
So he would have had other opportunities.

Speaker 1 (15:47):
And I think that Cott knew it.

Speaker 2 (15:48):
He might have, you know, in that new offense with
Ryan Grubb might have helped him out.

Speaker 1 (15:53):
Continuity of organization. But yeah, is what it is.

Speaker 2 (15:55):
But yes, Zach had been here long before Russell Wilson
doing that.

Speaker 1 (16:01):
Three eight, five to one.

Speaker 2 (16:02):
Guys, we'd supposedly the best team in the league beat
in the Kansas City Chiefs.

Speaker 1 (16:05):
Yeah, they blocked the field goal. Say we lost that game.
The Chiefs did not win that game. Just my opinion.
I tend to agree with that. However, you want to
have you a dice that.

Speaker 2 (16:13):
But any given team, any given day, and I think
the Chiefs are a better matchup for the Broncos, to
be honest with you, the Chiefs are. The Chiefs reputation
is a high flying, high octane offense. The reality is
they're a very good defensive football team that plays possession football.

Speaker 1 (16:29):
Now that that's really who they are.

Speaker 2 (16:31):
Now. They're not the same team that they were when
Pat Mahomes came into the league and they had Tyreek
Hill out there and you know and all that stuff.
That they're not that team anymore. And I think the
Broncos are a better matchup for that. We certainly so.
We saw russ beat them last year. We saw the
Broncos could have beat them this year if the field
goal hadn't been blocked. I think Kansas City is a
better matchup for Denver. So you know, that's that's just,

(16:53):
that's just that. As far as the rest of it goes,
you know, the Bengals are are a tough matchup for
the Broncos because the league and the game of football
favors the offense. It's not just the rules, right, And
I'll explain what I mean here really quick. You see,
on offense, you just need one thing to go right.

(17:13):
Right as you're looking on the cost field, one thing
goes one thing goes right, and you're gonna get a
touchdown of it right one guy falls down. On defense,
you need everything to go right because if one guy
goes down, they're getting a touchdown.

Speaker 1 (17:24):
And so so that's the thing.

Speaker 2 (17:25):
When you get an explosive offense with that many playmakers,
the margins are thinner because you make one mistake and
they're going to make you pay.

Speaker 1 (17:33):
And we saw that with for instance, Cleveland.

Speaker 2 (17:35):
Right, Cleveland has a few decent playmakers, had a quarterback
willing to sluing the ball, and the Broncos defense all
of a sudden look like shred lettuce at times, because
you need one thing to go wrong, one miscommunication, one slip,
one whatever, and all of a sudden, it opens things up.

Speaker 3 (17:52):
And the Bengals have apponency there that a lot of
teams don't have. I mean, maybe the Dolphins are the
only other team in that conversation where they have so
many weapons where anytime they touch the ball, they can
take it to the house.

Speaker 1 (18:02):
Cortland Sutton's an awesome receiver, has really been great for
the Denver Broncos this year.

Speaker 3 (18:07):
He's not a guy who you know, can take any
touch to the house, right, He just doesn't have that
explosiveness after the catch. T Higgins has it, Mike Geski
has it, Chase Brown has it, Jamar Chase obviously has it.
Even Josevas has it. It's it is a terrifying offense
to go against. Yeah, They've they've got a bunch of
guys that can that can play that.

Speaker 1 (18:26):
So we'll see. I'm a little nervous, but I'm hoping
you guys will shake me out.

Speaker 2 (18:29):
Of that as we get along here, we'll get back
to the tech line and all you guys's questions and
comments here in a little bit.

Speaker 1 (18:34):
We got to hit a break. We're up against it.
But when we come back, we're gonna start getting into this.

Speaker 2 (18:38):
We're getting to see you Buff's Bowl game. Anything else
you guys want to talk about? Just in to Broncos
Country Night. Can't wait, guys. Tomorrow it's Broncos Buff Football
and React two thirty Broncos Bengals at Buff byu alimb
Bullets seven full Bowl coverage and three thirty on our
sister station, six thirty K HOW and a' ten on KOA.

(19:02):
It's a special Saturday night brocaus it Buffs React with
Justin Adams all the way to midnight.

Speaker 1 (19:07):
That's presented by Quantum Fiber. Tomorrow eight a m.

Speaker 2 (19:11):
As one, we'll start the coverage with yours truly goes
warm up, running it all the way to midnight right
here on KOA. We got you covered in the end,
so you guys will want to be here for that.
Five six sixty nine zero is the text line. You
guys want to get involved in the conversation. We had
an interesting firing today. I don't know if you guys
saw this. Mike Brown after the sacamin of Kings lose.

Speaker 1 (19:35):
What is it?

Speaker 2 (19:36):
I believe five straight and an unfortunate loss, too foul
and a jump shot like that.

Speaker 1 (19:39):
But whatever, they fired Mike Brown.

Speaker 2 (19:43):
They fired him after he conducted practice for the day,
after he met his media obligation and in the car
on the way to the airplane to go fly to
LA for the game, which is just no matter who
it is, firing somebody in that regard on the phone

(20:04):
while they're driving on the car after they met all
their obligations for the day is absurd.

Speaker 1 (20:08):
Poor, classless, classless. Michael Malone was asked about it.

Speaker 2 (20:12):
Nugget's head coach was asked about it today, and he
had this to say. I said, quote, We're going into
a meeting this afternoon, and I'm not on social media.
I'm not aware what's going on inside these walls. Sometimes
I've had an office with no windows for ten years
and it'll probably take six years off my life. I
go into the meeting and the coaches said, you hear
about Mike Brown, And I said, why what happened? Then

(20:33):
they tell me you got fired and At first I
was shocked and surprised, and then I caught myself. I said,
why am I shocked in surprise? I'm not for two reasons.
One because as an NBA head coach, ultimately you're going
to get blamed. When they win, it's going to go
to Sabanas and Fox, and when you lose, it's going
to go to Mike Brown. That's the way it works.

(20:55):
And two, who he works for, shot fired. So I'm
not surprised that Mike Brown got fired because I got
fired by the same person.

Speaker 1 (21:07):
And what really pissed me off about it was.

Speaker 2 (21:08):
The fact that they lost last night, fifth game in
a row.

Speaker 1 (21:11):
I believe tough loss fouled a jumpshooter.

Speaker 2 (21:16):
They had practice this morning, he does his postgame media.

Speaker 1 (21:19):
He's in his car going to the airport.

Speaker 2 (21:22):
To fly to LA and they call him on the
phone and I'm going to read you the rest of
this quote here. Mike Malone said, no class, no balls,
And that's what I'll say about that.

Speaker 1 (21:33):
Thanks everybody.

Speaker 2 (21:37):
What we needed was the What we need was the
Mark Johnson right before the eyes right there, My good
Michael Malone coming on strong, and I need It's funny
because I saw that Mike Mike Brown. For whatever you
think of Mike Brown, whatever you think of his coaching acumen,
and I think he's a decent coach. He's not ever
gonna be mistaken for the greatest coach of all time,

(21:58):
but I do think he's a decent coach. Whatever you
think of him, He's also a pretty decent human being.
He is the standard bearer around the league for doing
things the right way, you know, being a good guy,
those kinds of things like he's he's like the standard
bearer for that. And for those of you who don't know,
I mean, you ask around the league. That's that's one
of those things. And I may not be as plugged

(22:19):
into the NBA as I am, you know, with the
coaching relationships I have in the NFL and that kind
of stuff, but I do have some relationships in the NBA,
and that's one of those things. Like it becomes a
habit to ask, you know, you ask those things about
NFL coaches. You see, you start getting in the habit,
you start asking those same things about coaches and other leagues,
Like anytime you're talking to people that are affiliated with

(22:40):
any sport.

Speaker 1 (22:40):
Well, yeah, so what kind of do is he you know?
Oh okay, yeah, And you can tell right away with.

Speaker 2 (22:45):
The things about all he takes care of his He
takes care of his guys, He takes care of his players,
takes care of his support its, takes care of his staff.
You know, those kinds of things. When people say those
kinds of things, you know right away what they mean
by that.

Speaker 1 (22:56):
You would you would want to go work for.

Speaker 2 (22:59):
You know, you could tell right away when dudes are
talking about other dudes, like what they mean in terms of,
you know, he's a good dude. You know if they
say he's a good dude and they leave it at that, Okay, he's.

Speaker 1 (23:12):
Never done anything wrong to you.

Speaker 2 (23:15):
They say he's a good dude, and they start listing
out to things like he takes care of and I'm
telling you what what somebody is telling you right then
and there. That's a quality individual that looks out for
everybody else before, you know, before just himself. He's not
the guy that's gonna put somebody else under the bus
because they lost a game. He's not going to be
the guy who doesn't take accountability for his own bad decisions.

Speaker 1 (23:38):
Mike Brown is.

Speaker 2 (23:39):
That dude, like he really is that guy. And so
that's that's one of those things that like watching him
get fired.

Speaker 1 (23:44):
He's like, oh, it sucks watching the way that he.

Speaker 2 (23:48):
Got fired though, I mean, just just disrespectful. She just
just disrespectful. And Brown's been on lead for a while.
He had coached the Calves for a while Lakers. He
came back to the Calves, he did a stint with

(24:10):
the Warriors organization and came back to the Kings. He's
a two time Coach of the Year. He was Coach
of the Year in twenty twenty three. He was Coach
of the Year last year.

Speaker 1 (24:21):
Which, by the way, if you want to see something funny,
go look.

Speaker 2 (24:23):
At the last decade's worth the NBA coach of the years. Like,
none of them are working. None of them were working
at the jobs they were working at. Steve Kerry the
only one I think that's still working at the job
he was working at.

Speaker 1 (24:37):
Another comedic last decade, the Kings.

Speaker 3 (24:40):
I mean to that point about Mike Brown winning a
Coach of the Year award, they actually had some success
last year and we're winning a lot of tight, close,
hardly five games in the regular season. Two get there,
and you know, Dangnier took out the Warriors in the playoffs.
I just, you know, I know it's been a rough
start to this season, but that is a dramatic turnaround
for franchise that just I don't know what they've done

(25:03):
to uh uh feel that urgent or feel like their
standards should be that high. I think it was good
when le Bronco or sorry, the Nuggets gave Mike Malone
some time to uh uh the kind of settle in
rather than quickly ushering him out the door.

Speaker 1 (25:17):
Yeah, and it's the Sacramento you know.

Speaker 2 (25:19):
I mean, Mike Brown has a has a sixty percent
winning percentage in the NBA.

Speaker 1 (25:26):
Sixty percent. That's really good. That's a fifty team. The
teams that I.

Speaker 2 (25:31):
Rattled off aren't exactly world beaters, the Lakers during the
down era, Cleveland, the Cleveland Caves, and the Cans.

Speaker 1 (25:42):
This dude's tuning them up to sixty percent.

Speaker 3 (25:45):
He's averaging a fifty win season is a sixty percent
that's right at forty nine wins.

Speaker 2 (25:49):
Yeah, he's four fifty four and three zero four in
his career point five nine nine.

Speaker 1 (25:53):
That's sixty percent.

Speaker 2 (25:54):
And it's not like he's a loser in the playoffs
any either, he's fifty and forty.

Speaker 1 (25:58):
That's a fifty six percent winning percentage in the play else.

Speaker 3 (26:01):
I mean outside of one season for Doc Rivers, and
that's a better resume than Doc Rivers has had.

Speaker 1 (26:07):
And you've seen how many opportunities he's gotten.

Speaker 2 (26:10):
For those that don't know about the connection, Mike Brown
actually got his start his NBA career with.

Speaker 1 (26:14):
The Denver Nuggets in nineteen ninety two.

Speaker 2 (26:17):
He was a video coordinator and then became a scout
for five seasons. It's pretty quick. I had no idea
that they actually got to start here. So that's that's
the connection. In case you guys were wondering why we're
talking about Mike Brown and Broncos Country to Night. Yeah,
I just just embarrassing, just just absolutely embarrassing the way
the Sacramento Kings did that. And for the record, at
thirteen and eighteen this year, you know they're below five hundred.

Speaker 1 (26:41):
Okay, that's fine.

Speaker 2 (26:46):
But give it time, Like let's let's give it that
time to turn it around. The NBA is too quick
to pull the hook. They are just too quick to
pull the hook on these coaches. And it's a player's league.
It's not This isn't like the NFL. It's rare that
a that a coach is making that kind of difference, right,

(27:09):
There are some that do, Greg Popovich as an example,
Steve Kerror, Phil Jackson. There are guys that make that
kind of difference. But for most NBA coaches, it's not
really it's not really a huge move that needle. It's
whether or not you've got the players.

Speaker 1 (27:26):
And it's all pretty explainable.

Speaker 3 (27:28):
Again, the Kings were the best team in the NBA
last year in the regular season in.

Speaker 1 (27:33):
Clutch games, in close games, games.

Speaker 3 (27:35):
Decided by you know, five points or few or ten
points or fewer, that lucks reversing.

Speaker 1 (27:39):
This year.

Speaker 3 (27:40):
We see it in the NFL season of season all
the time, and that's in a much smaller sample. I
just to your point, I think it's very unlikely that
Mike Brown is fully responsible for this team crashing from
the playoff contender they were last year also under Mike Brown.

Speaker 2 (27:53):
Yeah, it's funny the coaches the year last year was
Mark Daganolt from the local city.

Speaker 1 (27:59):
Mike Brown was two season ago with the Kings. Then
you had Manti Williams with the Phoenix Suns.

Speaker 2 (28:05):
Remember that Tom Thibodeau with the Knicks, Nick Nurse with
the Raptors, Mike Budden's holder holds her for the Bucks.
Also not there anymore, Dwayne Casey for the Raptors, Mike
dan Tony for the Rockets. And I could, like, you
have to go back to twenty thirteen, twenty fourteen, or

(28:25):
twenty fifteen, twenty sixty, Steve Kerr and then Greg Popovich
in twenty thirteen twenty four But.

Speaker 1 (28:29):
Most of these guys they didn't. They weren't even coaching with their.

Speaker 2 (28:31):
Team a year, maybe two years to two seasons later
after winning Coach of the Year.

Speaker 3 (28:35):
It's like the NFL man, it's the kiss of death.
You look at like Matt Naggie and Ryan Dable and
all those guys.

Speaker 1 (28:40):
And keep keep breaking them in. Yeah, it's just it's
a fascinating to me. Fascinating to me.

Speaker 2 (28:46):
That you would hire a and fire a guy in
that regard. Middy Williams was about three years ago, and
that guy's coaching with high school.

Speaker 1 (28:53):
Now.

Speaker 3 (28:53):
I was gonna say, it's funny because Monty Williams is
one of the more recent ones, and I'm pretty sure
he's been fired twice.

Speaker 2 (28:58):
Yeah you got you got hired by the Pistons and
fired by them, and now he's he's at TMI Episcopal
for coaching his kids in high school. Guys Tomorrow two
to four lots Broncos Bengals with myself Nick Ferguson at
the Mill downtown side Larimer Street, cross from Scruffy Murphy's Food,

(29:18):
Drake Specials and Autograph Football Good Boy.

Speaker 1 (29:20):
It's all presented by Don Julio.

Speaker 2 (29:22):
It's thee Orge Blue Watch Party and it'll be the
last one we do this year, So get a chance
to get down there and hang out with us. Let
us hang out with you as it goes. Talk a
little bit about Mike Brown's with sad news today. Greg
Gumble passed away after a fight with cancer.

Speaker 1 (29:42):
I wish him and his family well.

Speaker 4 (29:44):
Greg Gumble was probably the voice or a leading voice
anyway in my generation. I don't know if you remember
Greg Gumble too much, Zach, Maybe maybe you do. Obviously,
I think most people know he's the older brother of
Brian Gumble. But yeah, Greg was great at calling football games.

Speaker 2 (30:02):
Did a really good job of let the action do
the talking and just kind of you know, walking you
through what happened, and he was great as as a
studio desk host too.

Speaker 1 (30:10):
The most recently did at March Madness.

Speaker 2 (30:12):
With what Kenny Smith and he had Calk Kellogg and
Charles Barkley And there's some audio somewhere if we could
find it, just a great story Charles Barkley talking about
washing his basketball uniform. And I gotta find this for
you guys first, just because its a hilarious story for
Charles Barky first of all. But Greg Gumble just loses it,

(30:35):
I mean just loses it and he's absolutely die and laughing,
and so I wanted to I want to get to
that at some point.

Speaker 1 (30:42):
We don't.

Speaker 2 (30:42):
I don't know if we had that right now, but
if we could, we'll find that and then we'll play
that seven thirty we'll play that. We'll go get that audio.
We'll play at the seven thirty hours. Since we got
we got Frankie coming next, don't we Frankie. Yeah, Frankie's
film coming up next. Frankie Abbott. He had a chance
to break down Broncos and Bengals with him. That will
be a lot of fun. But yeah, rest in peace

(31:03):
to to Greg Gumble and man I that was one
of those guys you just you know, you knew his
voice instantly. But it was like one of the those
calming voices. You know.

Speaker 1 (31:12):
It's not like some other voices where you're like, oh,
you know, or you know you hear that voice. You know,
It's not like Dick Vital, which was like bombastic.

Speaker 2 (31:20):
You know, in a lot of ways, he was Greg
Gumbele was the antithesis of that. He was understated, but
did it so well. You enjoyed listening, and so that
was that was fascinating and it's you know, it was
It's sad to hear about that today. I didn't even
know he was. He was dealing with the cancer issue
and all that. And uh, certainly, our our thoughts go
out to to his family and his loved ones and

(31:42):
and and those that knew Craig. They certainly the CBS
put out a great statement a little while ago, so
passed away at the age of seventy eight years old.
One of the other things I saw today that we'll
get to before we which that came with Frankie, and
that is uh uh, Eric Dickerson, I don't know if
you've seen these.

Speaker 1 (32:04):
These quotes. Eric Dickerson, and you know what good for
him for stay and true to him.

Speaker 2 (32:10):
But you know, a Hall of Fame running back Eric Dickerson,
he may not be the most gracious person in the world.
When asked about Saquon Barkley possibly breaking his mark for
most rushing yards in a single season, at least.

Speaker 1 (32:21):
He was honest.

Speaker 2 (32:22):
You know what I feels about possibly getting topped in
the record book. Dickerson was talking for the La Times
and Sam Farmer, the great reporter, and he said, I
don't think he'll break it.

Speaker 1 (32:31):
Do I want him to break it? Absolutely not.

Speaker 2 (32:36):
Barkley, who is two hundred and sixty eight yards away
from Dickerson's record of twenty and five yards during the
nineteen eighty four season with the Rams, the Eagles have
two remaining games on their regular season, giving him a
chance to overtake him eighteen hundred and thirty eight yards. Barkley,
who of courses, a seven year veteran, needs to average
about one thirty three and a half in those final
two in order to seize the old time mark.

Speaker 1 (32:58):
He's top that number.

Speaker 2 (32:59):
In six fifteen games this season, and with quarterback Jayler
hurts out with the concrushion protocol, Eules may rely a
little bit more on the ground game with Canny pick
it back there at at quarterback. Dickerson was quick to
point out that a Parkley dust surpass him, he'll do
it in seventeen games, one more than Dickerson did in
nineteen eighty four. So you know, that's one of those

(33:19):
things that if you're gonna do, if you're Saquon, is
there any way that you could possibly come away with
a two hundred and sixty eight yard game this week
against the Dallas Cowboys, Because if so, leave no doubt.

Speaker 3 (33:31):
I mean, someone should remind Eric Dickerson that if we
care about yards per game so much, that he's number
two to O. J. Simpson run forty three yards per
game because he rushed for twenty and fourteen game season, right.

Speaker 2 (33:43):
Because back in the day, yeah, OJ did at fourteen.
He was killing the competition in a different way back then.
OJ jokes they are always time then funny. The current
list of two thousand yard rushers is very small.

Speaker 1 (33:56):
It is a very small club, Eric Dickerson.

Speaker 2 (33:58):
Of course, we just mentioned Adrian Peters in twenty twelve
with two thousand, ninety seven. Jamal lows twenty sixty six
and twenty twenty three. Excuse me, that was two thousand
and three, twenty twenty three. Barry Sanders at twenty and
fifty three back in nineteen ninety seven, Derreck Henry King
Henry did twenty twenty seven back in twenty twenty, Terrell
Davis had two thousand and eight back in nineteen ninety eight,

(34:20):
Chris Johnson two thousand and six and.

Speaker 1 (34:21):
Two thousand and nine, and then, of course the aforementioned O. J.

Speaker 2 (34:24):
Simpson two thousand and three back in nineteen seventy three.
Dickerson is also where the Barker Goods set the rushing
market against the New York Giants.

Speaker 1 (34:32):
That's the team that let him go as a free agent,
so that would be in week seventeen.

Speaker 2 (34:36):
If he did, that would probably feel like redemption for
Barkley and provide yet another embarrassing note on what has
been an absolutely miserable twenty twenty four for the New
York Giants. Dickerson said, how ironic would it be for
him to break the record on them, the team that
let him go. A true slap in the face. When
we come back, we'll be slapping the base or we
slapping your ears with it. Frankie Avam's going to join us.
Frankie's film on Twitter. Get a chance to talk Broncos

(34:57):
Bengals when we come back Broncos Country tonight
