Truly that my win.

Aled Sports, Cody Rourke.

Speaker 1 (00:28):
Cody, How you doing this?

Speaker 3 (00:29):
Even I'm moving then? How are you? My friends?

Speaker 1 (00:31):
Well, it's playoff Country tonight. You may have noticed our rebrand.

Speaker 2 (00:34):
We're PCT for the foreseeable future, at least until at
least until Sunday mid mid afternoon, at at minimum, as
we look at this game against Buffalo. The Broncos won
at Buffalo the last time they played last year. Russ Wilson,
Courtland Sutton, the big game for Justin Simmons. The Broncos
went out one that game at Buffalo. Buffalo opens eight
and a half point favorite. The doom sayers are all

(00:54):
talking about how the Broncos are gonna get pasted, but
we got a shot.

Speaker 3 (00:57):
This right, Yeah, no, I looks anything could happen. Then
we've seen that historically. Now obviously the line's favorite Buffalo,
and I think anyone looking at the matchup on paper
feels like, all right, hey, like Buffalo just has too much.
Like they're they're probably gonna be the best team at
Denver faces all season long, you know, in terms of
what they have on the offensive side with Josh Allen
and also you know what they have defensively playoff Von

(01:19):
Miller looks like he's about to rear his head here,
and you know it's gonna be a tough matchup here
for for Bill Nicks and the Bronc offense. But with
that said, like Denver can win this game. And look,
ill even say this as well. We were sitting there
waiting to go in the locker room, yes, said that's
the game. Tony Rumbo was walking by and he's talking
with Jim Nants, and he said that he feels like, uh,
you know, he feels like Denver could be a team
that shots buffal He said he wouldn't be surprised if

(01:40):
that was the case. He wasn't saying that to us.
He was just talking with Jim Nants on the way
to the point where he wasn't saying like, you know, Jim,
you know, he's just talking in general just that. So,
I mean, the Patricks chance to look Lebronco was the
only time they've been blown out this season was in Baltimore,
and it really got away from them in the first half.
Really in those final two minutes. You know, Baltimore scores
a touchdown and you know, they go in and they
get the ball in the second score a touch on there,

(02:02):
and you know, by the time Boneck steps back foot
on the field, that's thirty one ten. Baltimore's up. Every
other game never's you know, you know, and Ben in it.
It's been one score games and so that's a very
promising development if Denver can keep it, you know, closely,
we didn't want to score, and they could find a
way to make Buffalo make a mistake in Denver. Can
Kapa wasn't it never absolutely can win this game here
on Sunday.

Speaker 1 (02:22):
You know, we look at the game against Buffalo last
year and they did.

Speaker 2 (02:24):
They defended Josh Allen really well. He was basically a
little over fifty percent passing. I think he had what
three turnovers? Certainly the team at four Buffalo at four four?
Two forced fumbles, two interceptions Simmons and Tripper who got
the other? Was it Fabian Moreau or was it mcmill
that I can't remember who got the interception, but.

Speaker 1 (02:40):
One of them got the fumble?

Speaker 3 (02:41):
Are both those guys did?

Speaker 1 (02:42):
Yeah, well, they got turnovers. One of them got one
when we got the other.

Speaker 3 (02:44):
Cantra which one had a forced fumble of Fabian had
the internet it is see.

Speaker 2 (02:48):
But some of those pieces not here anymore, justin Simmons
who were noting, Uh, you know, was was kind of
cast aside by the Broncos didn't get to the playoffs.
Here goes to the Falcons ostensibly for a playoff shot.
Didn't get in there. Felt bad for him as far
as the rest of this goes, a lot of those
pieces though from last year and that Buffalo win aren't
here anymore. That said, Vets Joseph in a heck of
a game plan against Josh Allen the last time they played.

Speaker 3 (03:10):
Yeah, no, And look, it's just about understanding, you know,
where you can capitalize. And I you know, for Josh
Allen this time around, I think he's got some really
good weapons running and I felt like even in the
matchup last year, you know, Stefan Diggs is still in
the team pass for ten. I think held him to
like three catches for twenty something yards or something along
those lines there. But you know, they do have Khalil Shakur,
they have obviously Keon Coleman's having a tremendous rookie season.

(03:33):
You know, They've got Marii Cooper, which I think is
a great addition there for Josh Allen. The tight end
production is really well right there. And then they got
James Cook, who absolutely went off against the Broncos in
that game last year on Monday Night Football. So there
are so many different guys who have to try to
factor against. But you know, I think the biggest three
here is Josh Allen. He's going to be the key
to it all. And you know, one thing I looked

(03:53):
at is how Denver played Lamar Jackson. You know, Baltimore,
they tried to prevent him from using his legs and
he carved him up with his arm. And then you know,
they played Anthony Richard, who wasn't necessarily an accurate passer,
but man, he was the fourth of his legs. And
so now you've got a guy in Josh Allen who's
a little bit of both of those guys combined in
a sense. And that's where I think you're really gonna
have to to key in, Like you're gonna have to
respect what James Cook can do, but you have to

(04:15):
worry about Josh Allen bolling in running. You got to
worry about QB power with him, especially in the short
yarded situations, goal line. He's a tremendous playmaker.

Speaker 2 (04:24):
Part of me.

Speaker 3 (04:25):
Also feels like Denver could have an advantage here as
well as we see not saying that college football playoffs
is a you know, comparison, but Buffalo having a little
bit of time off this week to you know, have
some guys rest up not play their starters against the Patriots.
I think the Fords Denver opportunity. Maybe there's a little
bit of ring Russ can Dever capitalize on that. I
don't you know. Sunday's game, they got to a hot

(04:45):
start against Kansas City. Can they maintain that? I think
that'll be a big question here.

Speaker 2 (04:48):
Yeah. Well, I'll talk with Cody Rourke from my Sports
go back and look last year, James Cook twelve carries
hundred nine yards.

Speaker 1 (04:53):
But he did have the two fumbles, losing one. Uh.

Speaker 2 (04:56):
The other factor for them in the run game, Latavious Murray,
the former Bronco in nine carries six the eight yards
on a touchdown, and that was really the difference I
think in them because they couldn't throw the ball very well.
There you mentioned some uh you mentioned Stefan Diggs who
back then was with him and held the thirty yards.

Speaker 1 (05:09):
That's correct.

Speaker 2 (05:10):
Their best receiver on the day was Telton Kincaid out
of the tight end position.

Speaker 1 (05:13):
I'm worried that.

Speaker 2 (05:14):
We're going to see a lot of twelve personnel in
response to what the Broncos did to the Bills last year.
You see see a lot of you know, two tight
end stuff, which the Broncos have struggled little bit with
the tight end and then you know, getting power on
the ground with uh, you know, with that run game.
And get that going that that's potentially the way they
want to attack. And I feel like that that is
the most exploitable point of the Broncos defense.

Speaker 3 (05:33):
Yeah, no, I agree, and I think I think Buffalo
is going to take a page out of what Cincinnati
and LA did. You know, LA didn't goes as much
twelve personnel, but Cincinnati definitely they found a way to
you know, isolate and get Mike Yoseki opening the soft
spots when Denver blitzed that, you know, whether it was
Man or Zoney, they found a way to attack that,
you know, with ten catches eighty seven yards for Gysecki,

(05:54):
you ought you know he look at the way, uh
Buffalo's tight end Kincaid, he's stud He's an absolutely studd
and he he could produce more. But I even think
as well, I'm very curious se who pass or Tan's
going to cover this week? And then Lookkevin Ridley Moss
back fully healthy, I think is good ja Kwon McMillan
inside the nickel fully healthy. You know, Dever's in a
good spot defensively this week, but how are they going

(06:15):
to capitalize? As you mentioned, you know, you go against
the you know, Keon Coleman and Amari Cooper and have
some other guys that are Khalil Shakur and James could
get worried about all these different options, like this is
a balanced offensive attack here in Buffalo, and you have
to worry about not only the quarterback with his legs
but with his arm. That that's where it's like, all right, heye,
you have to come and bring your your best this week.
And obviously for Ranch Joseph who has an interest from

(06:35):
the New York Jets, John Payton said it best today
and we'll talk about Aaron Glenn of the Detroit Lions
said there's no better audition or interview than putting something
on tape. You know what Aaron Glenn was able to
do on Sunday Night football against the Vikings for the
you know Lions defensively was incredible. While nothing amplifies here
chance to maybe get a head coaching job. If you
come out here against the Buffalo Bills, you put together
a tremendous game plan defensively and either limits or you

(06:58):
find a way to win against Buffalo, that would amplify
that as well.

Speaker 1 (07:01):
Absolutely.

Speaker 2 (07:01):
Talking with Cody Roark of My High Sports, Yeah, and
I think that's the thing. Speaking of that, you know,
Vance obviously has interest from the Bears and the Jets
in terms of coaching. David Shaw is getting interviews from
the Bears in New Orleans. You've got Jim Leonard who's
gonna get some consideration to replace Gush Bradley there in Indy.

Speaker 1 (07:23):
How nice is it?

Speaker 2 (07:24):
I mean, it's it's a problem, But how nice is
it to have a problem where people want your coaches?

Speaker 3 (07:29):
Yeah, look, it's a good thing. You know if nobody
wants your coaches, and that'd be kind of problematic. I
know every year we are wondering when Christian Parker was
Here's like, hey, is Christian Parker gon to be snagged
for a DC job elsewhere? And obviously he reunited with
Vic Fangio promotion down there in Philadelphia. But yeah, I
think you know, what Sean Payton has done from a
coaching standpoint, I think he's got a staff that's been

(07:50):
a really great job. He's got a good combination of
guys who are young, but also, you know, you have
experienced guys there that are in you know, senior assistant roles,
and I think that just cohesiveness. It flows down from
the top level from Sean all the way down to
you know, the position coaches coordinators obviously, and that's a
good thing to have there. So for Vance, obviously, for him,
his first stitt we all know here in Denver didn't

(08:11):
go well as a head coach, you know, and then
he went to Arizona and put together a great resume
as a decordinator, came here to Denver, and now as
a chance to jump back in. I think, you know,
all these years that have passed since his head coaching
gets he had, I think there's a lot to learn there,
and you know, but I think that was just to
be the right thing. I look at teams like Chicago,
I look at teams like New York, and to be
honest with Ben, I know NFL jobs like there's only

(08:33):
thirty two of them for head coaching gigs, right, But
you want to go there and take the risk of
going to a place it seems dysfunctional. I think when
you look at ownership, you look at the general manager
situation some of these teams, it's a little questionable. So
for Van Shields, if he's got to ask himself, how
bad do I really want to be a head coach
or any of these teams going to be a place
where I can go and allow myself to thrive. I mean,

(08:55):
you look at some of the dysfunction, it's tough to imagine.
I think there's you know, we see the carousel turn
every year for head coaches, and this year, certainly there's
gonna be a lot of openings. But you know which
place is the most stable? I don't know. People say Jacksonville.
I don't even know Jacksonville is the most stable, even
though I think they have a better roster situation than
some of the other spots.

Speaker 2 (09:13):
Yeah, it's it's interesting, but they they are today not
removing Trent Balky from the equation certainly something I do
believe that they are going to give whoever they hire
his coach the opportunity to either keep or remove him.
I don't think that situation is resolved one hundred percent
despite him not getting fired today. But that was stunning
to the NFL community that Trent Bulky, one of the
most incompetent general managers of all time, A guy who
has hired three people who were either fired in or

(09:35):
after their first season, is still the general manager there.

Speaker 3 (09:39):
Yeah, well, even looking at New England. What they did
that whole situation there. For obviously Drod Man. Look, Drod
Mayo said some things this year to the and after
a couple of losses that you know, didn't sit well
in the locker room. I thought players responded well for
for in certain situations, but it just seemed like every
other week that you know, Mayo was kind of putting
his foot in his mouth there. But he shouldn't have
been one and done. In my opinion, that's something at

(10:00):
Robert Craft that they had Mayo as the successor to
obviously Bill Belichick. They should have had, you know, a
plan to help build things around. I mean, look what
Drake may had to throw to this year and New England.
He didn't have much, but man, he looks like a
promising a young player. So I just think situation is
obviously gonna be a little bit of everything. And I
think for Denver, like Vance Wild get a head coaching

(10:21):
job elsewhere. I do think that Denver would try to
retain Jim Leonard maybe potentially as their DC. There could
be obviously Dennis Allen maybe coming back into the fold
here with Sean Payton, but hopefully that's not the case.
You know. I know players selfishly they want Dvance to stay.
They really like what Vance has been able to do.
And I think Advance, you know, feels like there's not
the right opportunity for him to be a head coach

(10:41):
out there. I think he stayed. I think that's good
news for Denver.

Speaker 1 (10:44):
I think so too.

Speaker 2 (10:44):
I mean, Advance does leave, we get the two third
round compensatory picks, you know, but if he doesn't, then
obviously we keep the architect of the turnaround this year,
and certainly a guy who is a keen defensive mind
and personnel mind. That's the other part of I think
losing Advanced Joseph think gets overlooked Vance. The reasons Jack
Allen is here is Vance Joseph. The reason Breandon Jones
is here is Vance Joseph. And so some of these
these personnel decisions that you made, like he's got a

(11:07):
keen eye for that, and I think it would be
a shame to lose that.

Speaker 3 (11:10):
Yeah, no, one percent too. And look, I think it's
also an exciting opportunity to see some of your other coaches,
you know, vote and they carry over the same system.
I know that was really the big thing when Sean
Payton came in and was wanting to keep continuity. I know,
with the hero Evro system and what they were able
to do, Vance tried running that and with the terminology
was different, and it's hard to ask the guy to
come in and run somebody else's defense. But for the

(11:31):
sake of player continuity, what was working, you know, Vance
took on that task. And then obviously you know they
made some personnel changes. Obviously we know what you know.
Benching is saying, BASSI going with Jay Kwon mcdillin as
a handful of these things. Benching, Frank Clark and obviously
Rainey Gregory and favored Nick Nie Josh Cooper. Look how
that worked out for Denver. At this point, you have
two guys who were massed double digit sacks for the
first time since twenty and eighteen since Bradley Chub and

(11:53):
Von Miller did it. Denver's heading in the right direction. Obviously, defensively,
they're humming. I know they had some setbacks the last
few games minus the Kansas City one, but nance is
a big reason for why they've been successful and looking
any times early on the season when the offense was
really struggling, the defense had their back and gave them opportunities.
And so far I think, you know, in the last
handful of weeks the offense has kind of return the
favor a little bit. But now you play your best

(12:15):
brand of football in the month of January, in the
cold Eastern time zone game against a jugger out of
a team like the Buffalo Bills. I mean, this has
a chance. If Denver can knock off and upset the Bills,
this has a chance to shake things up here in
the postseason.

Speaker 2 (12:28):
Well, not just for the Broncos, but for the legacy
of Sean Payton. You know, Sean when he was hired here,
there were people that, well, we'll get a Hall of
Fame coach. I'm like, ah, you know, I'm gonna be
honest with you. I don't think Sean Payton gets the
Hall of Fame unless he does something no other coach
has ever done, and that's win a Super Bowl with
a second team, putting them, you know, putting them in
that conversation. Getting that the legacy for Sean Payton, which
is something he's very cognizant of, I think would put

(12:49):
him start to put him in that conversation, a conversation
he wants.

Speaker 1 (12:52):
To be in that he's not right now.

Speaker 3 (12:55):
Yeah, yeah, Look I think for Sean too is I mean,
you know we talked about legacy. I mean, I think
what he's been able to do with his team since
coming on Ben, I think has been very impressive, you know,
inheriting a little bit of the mess that happened within
Nathaniel Hacketts saga. You know, you sort of him to
come here and say, hey, ownership GM like you know,
and you know, a roster that you know has potential
is suddenly he was excited about. I mean, he's come

(13:17):
in and he's removed a lot of the you know,
the fat we're using, you know, a New Year's resolution
type of ternemy. He always he's tried. He's put on
the new body here for the devil Broncos, a little
leaner and a little meaner. And even though they're the
third youngest roster right now in the league. I mean
the term that he's being used by them and that
Sean Paymas said is young and hungry. Lawyers echoed that
in the postgame locker room, you know, talking to various

(13:38):
guys there, they say, you know, we are a young
and a hungry team and we believe, you know, and
what we can do, and they kind of tune out
the outside noise. But for Sean Dayton, I mean, man,
could you imagine it? Ben? Like, you know, I think
he cares so much about the process, and he cares
so much about winning and turning things around. Even if
Denver were to win the Super Bowl, I think he'd
still find a reason to kind of nitpick something. You know.

(13:58):
He's just he's wired like a coach, and I think
he's been a great addition here for the Broncos to
turn around the culture. And sure there's times where you know,
he comes across as rough, but I think it's unnecessary
evil to have here in the NFL when you know
you have the Nathaniel Hackets of the world, where you
know everything was a you know, cheery and sunshine. Just
doesn't work out that way. But you know, a lot
of steak here and obviously would add to the legacy

(14:19):
and the resume of Sean Payton if the Broncos were
to knock off the Bills, because at that point I
think they do that anything could happen.

Speaker 1 (14:25):
Yeah, me too.

Speaker 2 (14:27):
I think at that point, you're you're too young to
know your team is too young to know that what
they don't know. And I think at that point you're
flying high on the confidence level that you had. You know,
you you nearly you kick Casey's backside here. Of course
it was the backups. You nearly beat them in their house,
took a last second block field goal to you know,
to keep them from from winning in their house. You
you know, you've beaten up on a Buffalo team. At
that point, all of a sudden, you know, the world's

(14:48):
your oyster, I think at that point, So something, keep
your eye real quick.

Speaker 1 (14:51):
Last question before we before we get you out of here.

Speaker 2 (14:54):
As we look forward, this team obviously does have some
glaring holes. There are some things that they need to
get this offseason. What do you view as the most
important is it, you know, is it a playmaker at
the tight end position, is you know, the restock of
the running back room, a safety opposite Brandon Jones? What
what do you view as the most important pick up
this off season?

Speaker 3 (15:11):
Ah? Yeah, great question. I mean so much depends on
what they do. A wide receiver. I see Courtland Sutton's
going to be in the final year of his dealer.
Are they going to extend him keep him or are
they going to look maybe elsewhere as a question. You know,
in terms of what they do, are they going to
look in the draft of free agency, they're gonna make it,
you know, a big signing there. I think if they
have to make a priority for anything, Ben, it's got
to either be I think priority number one. It's gonna
have to be either a tight end or running back

(15:33):
at this point, maybe inside linebacker as well. If I
had to go through the top needs, those would be
the three positions. Running back, tight end, and linebacker would
have to be areas. I think they got to focus
at here just to find more balance here. Obviously, you
know the lack of run game. Like for bow Nicks,
he led the team rushing yesterday and you know he
came close. Really it's kind of leading the team and
rushing the season. But when you don't finish with a

(15:54):
rusher that has over six hundred yards on your roster
and a year, that's problematic in an eighteen game setting.
It goes some of the issues that you've had there.
But also you don't have a lot of production at
the tight end position as well. You know a lot
of those guys are used in as blockers extra protection
or decoy guys. Can he get a weapon for bowe knicks,
then you can attack different levels of the field consistent.
I think things will open up even more for this offense.

Speaker 1 (16:15):
All Cody appreciate it.

Speaker 2 (16:17):
Look forward to chat with you again down the line,
and let's go Broncos against Buffalo on Sunday.

Speaker 3 (16:22):
Absolutely, Ben appreciate you.

Speaker 1 (16:23):
Yeap appreciate you.

Speaker 2 (16:24):
Cody Roark, Mile High Sports playoff Country tonight.

Speaker 1 (16:26):
I'll be back after this. Five six six nine zero.

Speaker 2 (16:30):
Is the text line at quite a few, quite a
few texts coming in over the course of the show.
Just really have not a chance to get into much
of this stuff just yet, but I love you guys.
Heads are at people asking about the third rounders for
advance Joseph if he gets hired, Yeah, those would be
this year. They'd be competitory picks. People asking you fans,

(16:52):
Joseph does get a head coaching job, who with Sean
Payton wants to replace him? Well, the in house candidate
would be in The favorite would be Jim Leonard right away.
If Jill were to get hired somewhere else, and there
is a possibility of that, he's going to be in
consideration for the Colts defensive coordinator job.

Speaker 1 (17:07):
If Jim Moore to get hired away, I would think that.

Speaker 2 (17:09):
Sean Payton would go back with what he knows and
probably hired Dennis Allen. Allen, of course, was previously the
head coach of the New Orleans Saints, and prior to
that was Sean Payton's defensive coordinator. Broncos fans should know

(17:31):
Dennis Allen. Allen was the defensive coordinator of the Denver
Broncos in twenty eleven before he was hired in twenty
twelve to be the head coach of the then Oakland Raiders.
He was the Raiders' first defensive oriented head coach since
John Madden's retirement after nineteen seventy eight season. Al Davison

(17:55):
always preferred offensive minded coaches, and you look back at
the Raiders since then, they's mostly been offensive guys. Antonio
Pierce is really the next guy that was a defensive
minded guy. Saints rehired Dennis Allen as a senior defensive
assistant Tobacco on January twentieth, after Rob.

Speaker 1 (18:18):
Ryan was fired later on the season, Alan was promoted
defensive coordinator. And you know, we all saw all that
where they go from there.

Speaker 2 (18:27):
In twenty twenty one, he stepped in for Sean Payton
as head coach of the Saints and or Peyton tested
positive for COVID nineteen. Served as the head coach of
the Saints Week fifteen matchup against the Tampa Bay Buckshe
the Saints beat the Bucks nine to nothing, and it
was promoted after Sean Payton left. I want to go
into some of these head coaching I don't know, rumors,

(18:48):
whatever you want to call it, because I get asked
about this stuff all the time. Where do I think
these guys are gonna go? Who's in consideration for these jobs?
Those kinds of things, And it's early in the problem, says,
you know, guys still have a chance to wow in
the interview. And if you don't think that wowing in
the interview matters, let me tell you about a little
gyt aed Vance.

Speaker 4 (19:05):
Joseph Advanced Joseph so Wild the Broncos when he came
in to interview back then he was a position coach
with Cincinnati.

Speaker 2 (19:17):
Came the interview with Gary Kubiak's staff, and Cincinnati at
the time blocked the move for him to become the Broncos.
Defensive coordinator. Back then, you could do that. In fact,
that was one of the impetus in changing the rule
about blocking promotions in the NFL that you could absolutely
wow in the interview and it can change the perspective.

Speaker 1 (19:43):
Of an organization. Nate Hackett wowed in the interview.

Speaker 2 (19:48):
If you want an example of a negative that wowed
in the interview that didn't work out, Nate Hackett wowed
in the interview. And you know, I think kind of
pushed them off of the three other candidate. It's that
they were very big on Dan Quinn, Kevin O'Connell, and
John gannon, all of who ultimately got head coaching jobs
elsewhere in other cycles.

Speaker 1 (20:07):
O'Connell of course with.

Speaker 2 (20:08):
The Vikings who had a great season, John gannon with
Arizona who he's elevated that franchise, and dan Quinn, who
we all know is in the playoffs with the Washington Commanders.
So it can go both ways. It can go both
ways when you're you know, when you're talking about that process.
I think that with regard to and let's start with

(20:31):
New England, with regard to their coaching situation, I think
they're on Ben Johnson or Mike Frabel. I think they
know they've got one or the other in the bag
and as part of the reason they made the move,
which you're odd, Mao, you know, Mayo, he.

Speaker 1 (20:43):
Was just he was just saying over his head.

Speaker 2 (20:44):
And that's not to say that you can't get better.
I mean most coaches get better the second time around. Anyway,
I think back to I remember when Rahie Morris took
over in Tampa and they had some you know, smartly
successful whatever, but he was in over his head too.
He's way too young to be doing what he was doing.
And there's some guys that can handle it, in most
that can't. And Sean McVay is the exception, not the rule,

(21:06):
and getting a job that young. As far as as
far as New England goes, I do I believe that
it's Ben Johnson or Mike Rabel. I don't really believe
that there's I mean, they'll go through the process and obviously,
with respect.

Speaker 1 (21:22):
To the Rooney rule, they'll have to do certain things.
But I believe that that's the direction that they're headed.

Speaker 2 (21:27):
And I tend to lean on Mike Rabel getting the
job because I suspect Ben Johnson will.

Speaker 1 (21:35):
Go elsewhere.

Speaker 2 (21:39):
You know, we talked about wowing in the interview, you
can also blow it in the interview. You know, Ben Johnson,
I would I think he's going to be a fine
head coach. I he's just not the world's greatest interviewer.
There have been some notes from people, you know, after
you've the interview before. He's not the world's greatest interviewer.
Some guys are bad interviewers and would make bad coaches.
But I think he'll be a fine head coach. I
just don't think he's polished in the art of the interview,

(22:01):
which is its own thing, especially when you're talking to
guys that are owners, because typically when you're an owner
of the NFL team, you're probably a billionaire. You're probably
somebody who's been heavily involved in the business world, and
it's just a different style and process and vernacular and
jingoism that you don't have. There's a disconnect between football
and the business world and in a sense of the

(22:22):
way that you talk. And so you know, I think
that there are guys who are slick talkers that can
speak that language or speak that lingo and understand how
to how to speak to those guys and wind up
in jobs that they probably shouldn't get Their guys that
don't do the best job with that and don't get
those jobs.

Speaker 1 (22:39):
Sometimes.

Speaker 2 (22:42):
With regard to the New York Jets, that's the one
that's the biggest question mark to me. I think they're
casting the whitest net. I sort of think they have
to because I'm not sure how desirable that job is.
You've got a mess. You've got to figure out your
Rogers situation. You just you have a mess. You have
a mess of a culture that's been a mess of
a culture for a while.

Speaker 1 (23:00):
You fired.

Speaker 2 (23:02):
Everybody knows that they fire Robert Sala instead of giving
him the opportunity to turn it around this year. And
what a huge mistake that was. Everybody around the league
knows that fans were done with Salah. But I mean,
you know, you make decisions based on what the fans want.
You're gonna continue being terrible. Robert Sala should have had
the opportunity to turn that team around this year and
didn't get it. You know, they weren't particularly bad in
the first couple of games. They just they just had

(23:22):
some bad luck and wound up, you know, wound up
just throwing away the season, essentially putting ouldbrig in there
in an untenable situation. The offense, they moved from Nate
Hackett to Todd Downing, which was stupid. I mean, both
neither of those guys are great offensive coordinators, but that
might be the one guy that was a downgrade. Al

(23:43):
Loggins wasn't available to really shift that thing all the
way down. That's the one I have the biggest question
mark saw and some of these others are fairly clear.

Speaker 1 (23:53):
I think, you know, in Chicago, I think they want
Ben Johnson.

Speaker 2 (23:57):
I would say that the person that may be the
most skeptical might be the guy who's making the decision
there and Ryan Poles, and we'll see how that goes,
because I think Ben Johnson has made it clear that
he wants a unity of vision from ownership general manager himself,
and that is that he wants a general manager who's
basically going to do what he asks. He wants a

(24:22):
guy who's like, I need you to go get this,
figure out a way to go get this, and there's
nothing to be said for that.

Speaker 1 (24:29):
I mean, that's sort of in the end.

Speaker 2 (24:31):
The relationship that Sean Payton and George Peyton have sort
of come into and it really caters to both their
skill sets. I said earlier the show, I think that,
you know, Sean Payton causes George Payton to be a
little bit more aggressive, and George Peyton reigns Sean Payton
in when.

Speaker 1 (24:44):
Is when he would otherwise be too aggressive.

Speaker 2 (24:46):
And you go back and look at the Saint situation,
some of the things that they did, they were too
aggressive with those kinds of things. Then the Saint situation,
which is up for grabs, I think that's one of
the toughest jobs out there. You're you're facing an entire
rebuilding overhaul, You're at a cap hell.

Speaker 1 (25:00):
You gotta figure that situation out.

Speaker 2 (25:01):
You don't have a ton of contracts that are really
malleable in terms of being able to alleviate that. I
believe they'll offer that job to Aaron Glenn. I think
he's the favorite for it in New Orleans, and we'll
see if he takes it. I think he would be
in contention for the New York Jets job as well.
You've got the Jacksonville job, which you know, I personally

(25:26):
think that Ben Johnson is the apple their eye, and
it's interesting to me because they've not fired Trent Balky,
but people are freaking out that they didn't do it.

Speaker 1 (25:32):
I'm like, they haven't fired him yet.

Speaker 2 (25:34):
They're gonna go through this process and they're gonna talk
to these head coaches. Jashaan CON's gonna give them if
he finds a guy and he's convinced that's the guy,
and they say they got to get rid of Trent
Balkey and get their own guy, and they'll they'll punt
on Trent Balkey. They just they need a general manager
in there right now running operations. All the other coaching
searches have that, So, you know, I think Ben Johnson

(25:58):
with the apple of their eye, I do believe that
they'll that Liam Cohen will get strong consideration there. And
then there's an outside shot that that you go the
Pete Carroll route and you know, put the band back together.
There's obviously a lot of connections there at Jacksonville. I
think the fans would probably groan if they heard this.

(26:19):
But you know, guys like Daryl Bevel and Robert Sala
and Gus Bradley and all those guys that Carol would
bring and put on the staff in various positions.

Speaker 1 (26:26):
Almost guess had been there before.

Speaker 2 (26:33):
There's plenty of connection to that Jacksonville Jaguars, you know,
think with that, So I would not be surprised if
that was like a dark horse lurking out there. Get
Pete Carroll in there to stabilize the culture, and I
don't particularly think that's a bad move. I think that
Liam Cohen is the wild card there in the sense
that you bring it in, you know, another king maker,

(26:53):
Baker Mayfield offensive coordinator. You don't really know you know
what you're getting in terms of of of head coach,
what he what he brings the head coach. But you've
got to stabilize that thing that the Doug Peterson thing
didn't work and it's just, for whatever reason, kept getting worse.

Speaker 1 (27:16):
I mean, you've got a quarterback there.

Speaker 2 (27:17):
I mean it's it's a situation where you you've got
something you've.

Speaker 1 (27:20):
Got the the bones to build around.

Speaker 2 (27:23):
Might be a two year project, but but a guy
like Pete Carroll, I mean, if you've gotta go somewhere,
you know, why not. And the question of whether some
of these other jobs are gonna open up. We know
about the Colts defensive coordinator. I think there are some
guys that they'll look at there.

Speaker 1 (27:40):
I think I think.

Speaker 2 (27:41):
Chris Harris, not the former player, we'll get we'll get
a look. I think Jim Leonard will get a look.
I mean I made a crack earlier today. I think
people took it serious about John Piganna, our buddy, think
of wish I texted Coach Bags earlier. They made a
crack about him, you know, potentially getting the jobs because
his brother Chuck as they head coach there, and there's

(28:03):
kind of a running joke in Indy that Chuck pagottill
ran the cover who defense. But you know, I don't,
I don't know, and you know I didn't ask him
because I didn't want to. You know, I wouldn't put
him on the spot as far as that goes.

Speaker 1 (28:18):
But I.

Speaker 2 (28:20):
You know, it may be that he would get the
defensive coordinators yeh, which I mean he coach PAGs has
been a defensive coordinator there. You can fine job with
the Raiders stepping in there for for Ken Norton and
all that. I mean, he's been a fine defense coordinator before.
He absolutely deserves defensive coordinator consideration. For whatever reason, his
name is floated around there as being very hot. Obviously,
contributing to Washington Commanders, and they were run this year.

Speaker 1 (28:46):
And then there's questions about it if other jobs are going to.

Speaker 2 (28:48):
Open, the Giants job. I've been telling everybody this the
whole time. I never thought that was going to open.
I still don't think it's going to open. I do
believe they're runing it back. Jim what's his name, Mara
John Morras said, said pretty much that today. I do
believe that they'll be on the hunt for a bridge quarterback,
a guy like Carson Wentz.

Speaker 1 (29:10):
That they can bring in.

Speaker 2 (29:11):
And then I don't know that they'll go rookie right
there at the top with the quarterback position. They might
go somewhere else and then come back and get, you know,
a quarterback later. You could probably get Carson Wentz as
a bridge to a Quinn yours and come away looking
pretty all right. They've got the bare bones and some pieces. Really,

(29:31):
what they need to be doing is fixing that offensive line.
The Giants fix that offensive line. They've got skill position players.
Tyrold Tracy is nice. We all know how much I
love Miligue Neighbors. You got Wandale Robinson, Wayton, They've got players,
They've got skill position players. The question is the offensive
line there, but I do believe they're running it back

(29:52):
with Shane and Brian Dable, and I you know, I
think that was the plan all along. The question really,
I think as Horse jobs pop it open, is potential
the Raiders job popping open, and that would the interest
to me because I think if Ben Johnson takes the Patriots,
Mike Rabel would be somebody that would beat you in
line for that Raider's job. There's obviously the Tom Brady

(30:15):
connection everybody likes to point out, but I believe that
Mike Rabel would be somebody who would be in line
for that. The question is who would be his offensive coordinator?
Because if Rabel does take the New England job, you know,
you could bring Josh McDaniels, put the band back together,
all that kind of stuff. You can't break Josh McDaniels
back to Las Vegas. And it's interesting because the Raiders
kind of cleaned house on that Patriots culture kind of thing.

(30:35):
Rabel's kind of been the one guy from that that's
been successful and stood apart from it. But Rabel's picks
of offensive coordinators, you know, Arthur Smith was the most.

Speaker 1 (30:44):
Successful he's up there in Pittsburgh.

Speaker 2 (30:47):
I don't think you're I don't think he's making a
lateral move, and I certainly don't think pittsburghs getting ready
of him. You know, Todd Downing, he bringing it. Todd
Downing was a disaster, which the Raiders already know. They
they've dealt with offensive coordator Todd Downing before. So it'd
be interesting to see maybe he brings.

Speaker 1 (31:04):
In like Tommy Reese or somebody like that, and then.

Speaker 2 (31:06):
That brings you to the Bears, and there's a skins
him there because you know you've got Ryan Poles the
general manager. You hire Ben Johnson as you are you
hired a guy that's gonna put you out of a job.
How organization the aligned are you in that regard? And
I do believe that Vrabel would be in play there
for for Chicago as well.

Speaker 1 (31:26):
I don't think much of these are set in stone.

Speaker 2 (31:28):
I think there's kind of a waiting for the Ben
Johnson domino to fall, the Mike Vrabel domino to fall,
that everything else kind of goes in there. I think
New Orleans is the one team it's kind of apart
from that, And I think Aaron Glenn is probably gonna
wind up with the job there, but it's fascinating to
watch as this thing sort of kicks off. I'll put
together like an official guess over there on Twitter tomorrow

(31:51):
or something. We always have fun with this every year,
like like donating to charity for how many I missed
that kind of stuff. So we'll put something together. We'll
put something together tomorrow on Twitter. But that's that's where
I think it stands. I do believe that Ben Johnson
is in play and all those places that everybody wants him.

Speaker 1 (32:11):
I do.

Speaker 2 (32:12):
I mean, I don't think it's he's in play in
New York, and I don't think he would go there.
But beyond that, and so I think we're all waiting
for those dominoes to fall. My gut is that Vrabel
winds up in New England, Johnson winds up in Chicago,
and you know, Jacksonville winds up looking between you know,
like I said, a Pete Carroll or Liam Collin, whether
they want to go New OC or whether they want

(32:34):
a culture stability thing, it just depends. I do believe
the Raiders will make a move next week. We'll see,
but it could go anyway. It's early in the process,
could go any which way. Well we come back. We've
got Roby Bean from CBS. You listened to Playoff Country
