Speaker 1 (00:00):
Ben's with old Brian mcferguson, Grant Smith here with you
taking you all the way up to Bob some basketball
versus BYU coming up here bottom the arm.
Speaker 2 (00:06):
Mark Johnson's gonna be on.
Speaker 1 (00:07):
The call right between the years, well, the years and
the radio. I know every time, every time, you know
something that was odd today real quick before we get
her six pack Chelsea.
Speaker 2 (00:21):
The Hall of Fame.
Speaker 1 (00:21):
But Billy Wagner finally got in only nine tries too
late on his last try, last try to get in,
And I'm like, how is Billy Wagner arguing with the
greatest closer in the game ever not in?
Speaker 2 (00:32):
You know, I have to wait to the last ballot
to get in the Hall of Fame.
Speaker 1 (00:35):
But whatever, each Row gets in on the first try,
but it's not unanimous.
Speaker 2 (00:40):
Some voter somewhere did not vote for each row. What
an idiot? Oh what a loser?
Speaker 1 (00:46):
Like in what world if each Row is on the ballot,
would you not vote for him for the Hall of Fame.
Speaker 2 (00:52):
Once again, he.
Speaker 3 (00:53):
Goes back to who that individual is and if that
person is from a rival team, the rival reporter. We
this not acting as though we were shot by this
because this has happened before. I mean, it happened to
Derek Jeter, and it was like, well, did the guy
forget they didn't vote for Derek Jeter. Ki differ, Julian
had the same thing for him, so did Tom sever Yeah,
(01:15):
so it happens. It's bizarre to me.
Speaker 1 (01:17):
I can't even begin to feel like, can you, uh,
could you imagine, like, what's that?
Speaker 2 (01:23):
What's that name? Gets out? Because it'll get out, We'll
figure it out.
Speaker 4 (01:26):
Well, it's like PS two now getting unanimous first team
All Pro.
Speaker 2 (01:29):
Well, I was a Patriots writer, he's a hey, anyway,
someone from another team idiot Exactly.
Speaker 1 (01:35):
It's a little bit different, like pastors had not been
unanimous All Pro. Okay, whatever, Fine, I can sort of like,
I don't understand it, but I can sort of see
in a single season contained argument, I can sort of
see it. I cannot understand looking at the career of
Vichu rosu Zuki and coming away and all, what, I
just can't vote for this guy for the whole thing.
Speaker 2 (01:54):
What more do you have to do? Yeah, well, think
about it.
Speaker 3 (01:58):
How many guys gone into Coopertown where.
Speaker 2 (02:02):
It was unanimous? I think I think maybe it's got
to be just what one person.
Speaker 3 (02:09):
So when you look at it, it always comes down
to a situation where there's a little bias.
Speaker 2 (02:14):
And Ben, I have to ask you this.
Speaker 3 (02:16):
Right, like if you had some issue with the player
doing your career or whatever, could you swallow your pride
and kind of vote that guy in?
Speaker 2 (02:26):
Absolutely?
Speaker 1 (02:26):
Absolutely, you put you put personal stuff aside on those
kinds of situations, even if that person Heisman ballots. I'm
talking yeah, absolutely, I've been leaving the campaign. Whatever the
personal whatever issue, whatever personal issue you have with somebody,
you can't let that interfere with that kind of stuff.
You have to take their their season or career or
(02:50):
whatever on its merits and go from there. Like you know,
you can't let off the field stock like I can't.
I would not even let if they had an off
field like if they had a d y or something
like that, somebody would use that as more all justification.
Speaker 2 (03:00):
I wouldn't let that affect at all.
Speaker 1 (03:02):
Fact there's in for some people, but for me, it's
what happened between the lines, only what happened between the lines,
and that's it.
Speaker 3 (03:08):
I agree with you. I'm totally with that. But Tarah
olways had issue.
Speaker 2 (03:12):
People in the like we're idiots. Garry Bond's not getting
the Hall of Fame. Like, I'm like, what happened on
the Diamond? Dude? Arry Bond was a Hall of Fame
player before the Cream and the Clear. Well, but his
head was really big though. Well, I'm like, this happened.
Speaker 4 (03:25):
You meant, by the way, only player ever to get
in unanimously into the Hall of Fame.
Speaker 2 (03:30):
You want to take a guess, So.
Speaker 1 (03:31):
It's I know this, it's a closer to it's Mario Rivera, right, correct.
Speaker 4 (03:35):
And shout out to C. C. Sabathia man, what dog
so many years? Yes, loved him in Cleveland, He's left
him in Cleveland.
Speaker 1 (03:41):
Yes, but yeah, each your road not getting in unanimous
is just like, uh, that had to be a New
York writer just keeping Rivera's streak intact.
Speaker 2 (03:48):
Right with that is time for the NFL six pack.
It's time for the NFL.
Speaker 1 (03:53):
I'm going to train a lot of insight, insight information
you can't find anywhere else.
Speaker 2 (03:58):
I know the top six NFL headline.
Speaker 1 (04:02):
What Tom Moore's long run as an NFL coach will
keep going?
Speaker 2 (04:06):
In twenty twenty five, Rick Stroud of the Tampa.
Speaker 1 (04:08):
Bay Times supports that More will remain with the Tampa
Bay Buccaneers an offensive consultant. More, who turned eighty six
in November, has been in that role since twenty nineteen
been coaching in the NFL since nineteen seventy seven. This
will make twenty to twenty five the forty ninth year
as a head guard excuse me.
Speaker 2 (04:25):
As a coach in the league.
Speaker 1 (04:27):
Moore has been on the staff of four Super Bowl
winners Pittsburgh, Indie and Tampa over the course of his
time in the league.
Speaker 2 (04:33):
He will try to make it fives. He moves towards
a half century in the league.
Speaker 1 (04:37):
We're all rooting for Tom Moore to get to fifty, right,
We're all rooting for the fifty years in the league?
Speaker 3 (04:42):
Yeah?
Speaker 2 (04:43):
What and why not?
Speaker 3 (04:43):
I mean that's kind of like a golden number, right,
how many times that individuals can say that they've done that?
Speaker 2 (04:49):
Well, I mean thinking about But that's the thing. He
didn't start in the NFL, So you say thirty seven
years old.
Speaker 1 (04:53):
Nowadays you start, you know, usually starting mid twenties, late toys,
you know, unless you played and you had a career
that got you the thirties. But like you know, I mean,
Sean McVay was the head coach at thirty This guy didnt.
Speaker 2 (05:03):
Even get the lead till thirty seven. That's wow. Sean McVay,
hey coach at thirty unreal. I'm just saying, like it's
you know, like it's unreal.
Speaker 1 (05:11):
It's impressive that he started that late and still out
almost fifty years.
Speaker 2 (05:15):
Well especially been a lot of the agism.
Speaker 1 (05:17):
Yeah, in the NFL, but he said, dude, it has
been successful. And we look at honestly, look at what
Baker Mayfield's done in Tampa, and look at what he's
gotten those coordinators.
Speaker 2 (05:24):
Uh, look at you got those coordinator's jobs. You get
to get those coordinator's job.
Speaker 1 (05:28):
The Buccaneers are bracing for offensive coordator Liam Cohen to
be offered the Jacksonville Jaguars job.
Speaker 2 (05:33):
The Becks may need a.
Speaker 1 (05:34):
New offensive coordinator, third year a row Cordon Rick Stroud
again of the Tip Day Times. The organization is bracing
for current offensive coordator Liam Cohen to be offered the
Jaguars head coaching job in the coming days, perhaps as
soon as Wednesday. Cohen scheduled interview with the Jags for
a second time this week. Cohen pushed to thirty nine,
just completed his first year with the Buccaneers, helping the
club finish number three in total yards, number four points,
(05:55):
and then route to winning the NFC South. Cohen previously
was with the Rams from twenty eighteen to twenty two
twenty before heading to Kentucky maybe the program's offensive coordinator
in twenty twenty one, came back to the Rams as
the OC in twenty two before he go back to
Kentucky in twenty twenty three to fill it for the
fired Rich Gangarello.
Speaker 2 (06:12):
At that point in time, If the.
Speaker 1 (06:13):
Jags do hire Cohen will be the second time in
two years that the Bucks offensive coordinators in the building
for just one season before the party to be a
head coach. Dave Canalis, of course, hired as the Panthers
head coach last offseason after spending a year with Tampa Bay.
Bucks head coach Todd Bowles has had Byron Leftwich, Canalis
and Cohen is his offensive cordators in three seasons at
the Helm. Stroud oh So raises as the possibility the
Bucks could offer Bowles a position in the front office
(06:35):
and hire Cohen to take his place, noting the club
effectively did so with Bruce Arians stepping down as head
coach in March of twenty twenty two in favor of Bowls.
Back in twenty sixteen, the Buccaneers also dismissed Lee Smith
after two seasons, a promoted offensive coordinator DRK Cutter to
head coach, keeping him with the franchise at the time
as well, or think metle Liam Cohen possibly going to
the Jags.
Speaker 3 (06:55):
I think this is great for coach Colin, but it's
also great for the bus organization.
Speaker 2 (07:02):
What does that say about the organization.
Speaker 3 (07:04):
And how they've been able to bring in coaches developed
him to know that and back to back years you
have two of your offensive coordinators end up landing head
coaching jobs in the elite. That says a lot about
Todd Bowles and the Buck and Is, but it also
says a lot about the development and maturity of one
Baker Mayfield.
Speaker 1 (07:24):
When the organization that they have in place to be
able to do that, whether that's their coordinators quarterbacks, so
the guys they have because they have Bruce Arians and
Tom Moore on staff there to help out, that's a
lot of quarterback knowledge out there just to get that done.
It's no you job huge job Nick. The Patriots have
interviewed Josh McDaniels on Tuesday. Not surprisingly, they're expected to
hire McDaniels as their offensive coordinator.
Speaker 2 (07:46):
Ian Rappaport reported today McDaniels returns to a familiar job.
Speaker 1 (07:50):
Previously held the role from six to eight before coming
to the Debora Broncos head coach and then twenty twelve
to twenty twenty one before taking over the Raiders. McDaniels
was on Bill Belichick's coaching staff and England Old eight
seasons Mike Raybell played there. McDaniels won six Super Bowls
with the Patriots. McDaniels will be charged with developing Drake May,
the first round pick in this past draft. Being Out
(08:11):
also interviewed Viking's assistant Grant Yadinsky, former Bear center of
coach Thomas Brown, who figures to be on staff as
well and passing him coordinator for the Chargers, Marcus Brady,
what do we think about Josh McDaniels being back his
offensive coordinator for a third time with the new England Patriots.
Speaker 3 (08:26):
Well, first and foremost, are we actually shot? No? We
or not? Because we know this is gonna happen either
He was joining Rabel with the Patriots, or who's gonna
join Bill Belichick down with the North Carolina Tarrio's one
thing I could say, like they say, but just thicker
than water.
Speaker 2 (08:43):
Yes, it is when you come out of.
Speaker 3 (08:45):
That Patriots coaching tree. Because the third stint in New England,
I'm wondering if Josh he's gonna stay in his first
house or is he gonna have to rent another one?
Because to me, this is the Mets made in heaven.
And just think if Josh was still working with you know,
mag Jones, mag Jones will probably still be with the Patriots.
Speaker 2 (09:05):
Mag Jones mag Jones.
Speaker 3 (09:09):
Four.
Speaker 1 (09:11):
Multiple teams were interested in trading for Vikings coach Kevin O'Connell,
but it looks like they're all so l guys can
figure out what that means. The viking Us have an
ol sid O'Connell and the team have reached a deal
on a multi year extension. Connell said a statement, it's
an absolute honor to coaching the team. The Vikings owner
Ziggy Wilf shared O'Connell's enthusiasm, saying there's no question this
team's on the right trajectory under Kenvin's continued leadership. Like
(09:34):
Mark Wilf agreed, saying, Kevin's exactly what we believed it'd be.
Speaker 2 (09:37):
We named him our head coach.
Speaker 1 (09:38):
O'Connell sign a four year contract where he became the
coach three years ago. There was consternation from his perspective
when he did not get a new deal after the
twenty twenty three season. Resulted a week eight team report
from Jay Glazer Fox that multiple teams were interested in
trading for O'Connell. Getting the deal done became the first
order of off season business for the Vikings. Monday's deal
between the Bears and new coach Ben Johnson, believed to
(09:58):
be worth north of fourteen per year.
Speaker 2 (10:00):
Might have been the kick full side feed to get
this done.
Speaker 1 (10:03):
Fourteen and three record in twenty twenty four, O'Connell's the
first coach in franchise history of multiple thirteen win seasons
and from the respective of the team's fans, there's one
of the items of unfinished sixty year business they hope
is coming soon. GM does not have a contract extension
at this time, although they say they are working on one.
What do we think about O'Connell getting an extension? That's
(10:23):
frankly well deserved.
Speaker 2 (10:24):
Yeah, well deserved.
Speaker 3 (10:25):
I hope they keep him in Quzy together. Obviously they've
done some great things in Minnesota and if they continue
to move things forward to change the fortune. Four of
Minnesota moving forward.
Speaker 1 (10:37):
Five Dallas Cowboys complete an interview with Brian Schottenheimer for
their head coaching job. Schottenheimer is the betting favorite for
the john to the surprise of many, not too many
if you call it my Twitter, but other people he might.
He served as Cowboys offensive quarter in the last two years,
joined the team in twenty twenty two as a coaching
analyst and earned a promotion to oc with Cowboys and
kill a more parted ways more at a virtual interview
(11:01):
with the team last week, Former Jets coach Robert Salas
the aada Assistan Leslie Fraser to interview in person interviews
last couple of days and that's satisfied.
Speaker 2 (11:07):
The brilliant rules.
Speaker 1 (11:08):
Schottenheimer, who's fifty one the song of a longtime NFL
head coach, Marty Schottenheimer. He's been the offensive cording to
the Jets, Rams, Seahawks as well as the Cowboys. He's
currently a betting favorite for the Dallas job. If Kellen
moore Get said, I have been told that Brian Schottenheimer
would go be the offensive coordinator for Pete Carroll in
Las Vegas, assuming he gets a job there. So certainly,
what do we think about Brian Schottenneimer being the betting
(11:29):
favorite to.
Speaker 2 (11:30):
Take over for Mike McCarthy.
Speaker 3 (11:32):
I don't like that idea, and I think it's more
of a better fit if he were to go and
rejoin Pete Carrov pee Ker became the new hell head
coach of the Las Vegas Raiders because Schoenheimer has been
there already. Why stay there when you know you're trying
to move up as a head coach and this may
be a better fit for you in Vegas.
Speaker 2 (11:51):
With a coach you already know.
Speaker 1 (11:53):
Yeah, this is it's certainly fascinating watching Dallas fans meltdown.
Speaker 2 (11:57):
We fired McCarthy to hire Brian Schottneimer. What we been
doing here?
Speaker 4 (12:00):
Well, maybe a coach in waiting situation there in Vegas too, where.
Speaker 2 (12:06):
I was going to get into that, but Grant Area
to beat me to it.
Speaker 1 (12:08):
That's the inside of Grant Smith at Grant Smith NFL
Insider on all the social media apps.
Speaker 2 (12:12):
You can find him on the Microsoft zoom. Is that
that a thing? MySpace? Is that stillro Hey, you're not
in my top eight. I'm just saying.
Speaker 1 (12:20):
This morning, the Jets were heading into their second interview
with Lions defensive coordinator Aaron Glenn with the intention of
make him their next head coach. That effort is still
a full to according to multiple parts teams working to
finalize a deal with Aaron Glenn. They've informed other candidates
for the job they're moving in a different direction.
Speaker 2 (12:33):
Glenn was identified as leading candidate.
Speaker 1 (12:35):
For the Jets shob pretty early in the process, true
serious interest from the Saints, but scheduling the Jets interview
first suggested that was the place Glenn wanted to wind up,
and it looks how that's.
Speaker 4 (12:42):
Going to go.
Speaker 2 (12:43):
He left the building tonight without a deal in place.
Speaker 1 (12:45):
Old there is an offer he and Lance Newmark that
would be the packaged deal, the Commander's assistant general manager
becoming the team's next general manager. He also had a
second interview today, and like Glenn, he's the only candidate's
been invited back for an additional meeting with.
Speaker 2 (12:58):
The team For thinking about the.
Speaker 1 (13:00):
Jets looking like they're gonna seal the deal with Aaron Glenn.
Speaker 3 (13:03):
Well as a guy that was a teammate of Aaron
Glenn in my early days breaking into the league. Unlike that,
from maybe the pedigree standpoint is a guy who played there,
played for Bill Parceales, spent some time with him, and
you just look at just kind of the relationship dan
Quinn being a former player.
Speaker 2 (13:22):
So I like it.
Speaker 3 (13:23):
I like the fact that former players are getting these opportunities,
but more importantly earning these opportunities for themselves.
Speaker 2 (13:30):
Yeah, And to me, it's.
Speaker 1 (13:31):
What's interesting is how the Lions are going to replace
this this you know, blowout of their staff. But basically
both those guys, both Ben Johnson and Chicago and of
course Aaron Glenn, they're in what will end up being
New York.
Speaker 2 (13:45):
Raiding those staffs.
Speaker 1 (13:46):
You're gonna see Glenn bringing in Mark Burnell, who's the
quarterbacks coach. They've already lost their offensive quarter of Ben Johnson.
Hank Fraley figures to join Ben Johnson in Chicago. Those
those staffs are going to be pretty decimated by the
time both those guys get through assembling their staff.
Speaker 2 (13:57):
It's going to be interesting to see how Detroit.
Speaker 1 (13:59):
So sort of uh, you know, bounces back from that
and is able to backfill really those those coordinator spots
and those staffs.
Speaker 3 (14:06):
Yeah, that's gonna be really interesting. And and this is
the price of doing.
Speaker 2 (14:11):
A business, doing business price of victory good.
Speaker 3 (14:14):
Yes, I mean your your coaching staff. They're going to
get raided, but you need to make sure that you
have other coaches in waiting to kind of take their place.
But this is a great look for the Detroit Alliance
and could be for the New York.
Speaker 1 (14:26):
Jets basketball against by US.
Speaker 2 (14:28):
Up next here on DA. That's what I do. I
drink and I know things come from its
