Grant Smith felling in for Benjamin all Bright alongside the
legend Nick Ferguson.

Speaker 2 (00:05):
Nick, how are you man?

Speaker 3 (00:07):
Yeah?

Speaker 2 (00:07):
Yeah, yeah, yeah, you're feeling good today. You're looking good?

Speaker 3 (00:10):
Well, thank you man. You are looking uh dapper yourself
and out. Usually you wear bullow ties on Thursday today Thursday,
yes it is, but see you have a more fashionable
one now. When I first walked in, based on is
that leather on there?

Speaker 2 (00:27):
Yeah?

Speaker 4 (00:28):
Okay on the string?

Speaker 2 (00:29):
Yeah.

Speaker 3 (00:29):
First of all, I thought at first I thought it
was all gold Bobby, with all things being considered sits
around this place.

Speaker 4 (00:41):
I was like, oh man, that's flies.

Speaker 1 (00:43):
Heck, yeah, this is fashion country tonight.

Speaker 2 (00:45):
You know where the where the people that actually look
good when we come into the studio even though it's radio,
even though just like they can't exactly.

Speaker 1 (00:55):
And I got to give a shout out to our
big boss, Jojo Turnbo.

Speaker 2 (00:58):
He actually gifted to me no way. Yeah.

Speaker 1 (01:01):
I got back from my ski trip in Salt Lake
City this past week and it was on my desk
waiting for me.

Speaker 2 (01:06):
So shout out to Jojo for that.

Speaker 4 (01:08):
Wow.

Speaker 3 (01:09):
But really, once again, man, I'm just so used to
like photos of my dad back in the seventies. Me
and my siblings clown him on these photos because he
had has that typical seventies gear.

Speaker 4 (01:24):
Yeah, you know with the button three buttons down here.

Speaker 1 (01:28):
Taco meat, get the test era.

Speaker 3 (01:33):
You can't I showing a little taco meat exactly.

Speaker 2 (01:38):
Oh that is great man.

Speaker 1 (01:39):
Well, hey, we look good, we feel good. We're ready
for a good show tonight. But before we get into
some sports talk. Our show, as you guys know, last
night got interrupted by a tragic accident, you know, the
American Airlines flight hitting a helicopter and many people losing
their lives. We've heard some more details come out about
it today, but if you've missed any of those details,
wanted to bring up on our crack staff from the

(02:02):
Kawa newsroom. Kathy Walker leads it all and she does
a great job all the time, and I just wanted
to provide some of those details on what happened last night. Yeah.

Speaker 5 (02:10):
Well, we learned obviously through the night, just horrific details.
And when you know that there's sixty peoples on a
plane from Wichita headed somewhere, you know it's not just
going to be sixty people. We don't know, right, It's
just the way America works, right, right, So we did
find out in the overnight hours that there was a
community of figure skaters on the plane. They had just

(02:33):
held the National Development Championships and the camp in Wichita
for figure skaters, and so among the figure skaters who
perished last night two world champions from Russia who were
now coaches, along with six members at least six members
of the Skating Club of Boston. Those kids were also

(02:54):
traveling with their moms. Ice skating legend Nancy Kerrigan skated
at the Ice Skating Club of Boston, and she talked
about the grief and kind of how that impacts these
types of athletes.

Speaker 6 (03:09):
I just urged them all to be patient with each
other because someone.

Speaker 5 (03:12):
Might want to get out there and just practice like
it was last week, and someone else might feel like
that's not appropriate.

Speaker 2 (03:18):
But that's we all a grieve differently.

Speaker 5 (03:21):
She talked a lot about how skaters are just trained
and trained and trained to fall down, fall down, fall down,
and get up again, and that even in the face
of this tragedy, you kind of have to get up again.

Speaker 7 (03:33):
When you find out you know, you know, some of
the people on the plane is.

Speaker 4 (03:40):
Even a bigger Globe.

Speaker 5 (03:42):
Obviously she was very emotional today, but I think very
real about talking about it from an athletic perspective to
lose people who are in that club, Grant, and also
to talk about how this kind of tragedy will impact
everyone on the ice who's a fig, your skater anywhere
in America.

Speaker 1 (04:02):
Yeah, I mean, just hearing those soundbites from her, it
gives me goosebumps. And I want to get back to
the sports aspect of it with you here in a minute.

Speaker 7 (04:08):
Nick.

Speaker 1 (04:09):
But Kathy, I heard some reports when we first started
covering the breaking news, and ABC News did a great
job covering it all last night and breaking down things
down as it happened. But were there any survivors? Were
there some initial survivors that they pulled out or has
it all been deaths and loss loss of life?

Speaker 5 (04:25):
You know, in the early stages of reporting on a
situation like this, reporters and everyone else are kept far
far away, and they could tell that people were being
pulled from the water, So we reported that, you know,
we could tell that people were being pulled from the
Photelmuc River last night.

Speaker 4 (04:44):
No one survived.

Speaker 2 (04:46):
Man, what a horrible story.

Speaker 1 (04:47):
Well, thank you for all you do, Kathy and Man,
thanks for giving us those updates and those sound bites
from Nancy bet Nick Man. You heard it all happened
last night during the show when you and Cody were hosting,
and we obviously ended the show a little early once
we heard what was going on, and it was the
first time something like this has happened in the US
and I.

Speaker 2 (05:06):
Think fifteen or sixteen years.

Speaker 1 (05:08):
But you know those soundbites from Nancy Kerrigan, I think
I think there's something to be said said about that
that you know, people that are athletes, they're they're going
to rally behind this tragic event, and you've had that
experience in your life before.

Speaker 4 (05:22):
Yeah, I have seen some more tragedy than I care to.

Speaker 3 (05:29):
Actually express, and because I shouldn't have seen it that early,
but also being a player for the New York Jets.
It just I was telling you, telling you via text
that this reminds me about nine to eleven. Obviously, there's
so many factors about this that are so different than
nine to eleven, but it reminds me of that because

(05:51):
how crushing it is for individuals across the country.

Speaker 4 (05:56):
You don't have to have known.

Speaker 3 (05:57):
Any of the individual sixty four individuals who were involved
with this horrific crash. But it pulls out your heartstring
when you know that these are sons, daughters, and on
the flight you had young teenagers.

Speaker 4 (06:11):
Who were with their parents.

Speaker 3 (06:13):
And I remember sitting in here with Kody last night
and it was on the furthest TV and I was
trying to figure out what was going on because I
saw the flash of light and I read the headlines.
But I'm like, well, there's a plane that kind of
took off already, so what are we talking about. And
then as they start to give more information, and as

(06:34):
Katy said, it was kind of like slowly giving the information,
and it was encouraging at one point because I heard, okay,
well they put four people, and I was like, okay,
well someone survived. And then come to find out today
that none of the individuals had sur Vibe went from
a rescue to a recovery. And as I was driving home,

(06:57):
when I was getting all this information, I couldn't help
but automatically, as a parent, start to think about my kids,
and the moment I walked in the house, I'm sure
I freaked them out because I hugged them and I
kissed them and they were probably trying to figure.

Speaker 4 (07:15):
Out why's dad being a little creepy?

Speaker 2 (07:17):
Right?

Speaker 3 (07:19):
Lovew But that that's kind of what I thought about.
And I'll say this, man, Grant. In our lives, we
go through ebbs and flows, and sometimes we look at
our life and it's like, well, it's not what we
wanted to be right in comparison to what we thought
it would be. But that kind of put things in
perspective for me. How bad could my life be right

(07:43):
at that particular moment driving home. No matter how I
feel about how my situation is now, it's not as
bad as those family members who would never get an
opportunity to see their family members or even say goodbye
to them.

Speaker 4 (07:58):
Yeah.

Speaker 1 (07:58):
Man, goose bumps hearing about you, hearing you talk about
your kids, because it's like, it really does put things
in perspective for you. You know, I go through the
ebbs and flows of life just like everybody. You know,
you get a little down on yourself at times and
where you are in your life.

Speaker 2 (08:13):
But I had a moment of reflection this morning where I.

Speaker 1 (08:15):
Was just like, you know what, man, I'm so freaking lucky,
Like I have everything I could want in my life.
You know, I have a beautiful wife that loves me.
I have a job that I enjoy. I have a
roof over my head. I get to eat the food
that I want every day. Maybe not Nick ferguson diet food,
but you know, it's the things I like.

Speaker 2 (08:36):
That's true. That's very true.

Speaker 1 (08:37):
We're gonna talk to Benjamin Albright here at about twenty
minutes or so live from the Senior Bowl. But man,
it's it really does. It sucks that things like this
have to happen. But I always say this on my podcast.
You know, you can't have the good days without the
bad and the bad moments like this, and even if
you're not directly affected by it, really do put things
into perspective of how lucky you are on a day

(08:59):
to day basis.

Speaker 7 (09:00):
It is.

Speaker 4 (09:00):
And here's another thing.

Speaker 3 (09:01):
I mean, look, we just went through an election and
inauguration and there are people who are split down the
middle where they think that they feel their friends and
their families for me at the end of the day,
and this is the thing.

Speaker 4 (09:12):
That keeps me sane is that we are all people.

Speaker 3 (09:17):
As long as I see other people as human beings,
we can kind of put all those other things, our differences,
underneath the bridge, because at the end.

Speaker 4 (09:27):
Of the day, really, how important are they for me?

Speaker 3 (09:30):
My human connection with Tony manis Kathy Walker, David Temper,
Ryan Shillings, you, Dave Logan, Benjamin Albright, you know some
heavy lifting right there, you know, Zach Sekers. All these
people that I encounter on an everyday basis. For me
is like I want to see the best in those

(09:53):
individual people. That's what I look for. That's the thing
that kind of gets me up every morning. And I'm
religious guy, so I thank God when I get up
in the morning because people always ask me, well, Nick,
why you're so happy? I say, Man, I got up
this morning. Yeah, that's the first.

Speaker 4 (10:12):
Start of a bright day. You got up.

Speaker 1 (10:14):
Yeah, And that's one of those things you can't take
for granted. And I love that you brought up all
the differing people here at the station because we all
have different mindsets and different political beliefs, but we still
are able to have conversations and connections in life, and
I think that's something that's being lost in our society.

Speaker 2 (10:32):
And man, you're wearing your Yankees hat today.

Speaker 1 (10:34):
You mentioned nine to eleven and you were a Jets
player at that time.

Speaker 2 (10:38):
One of the most powerful moments of my childhood and
I'm gonna try not tear up about it right now.

Speaker 1 (10:43):
But when George Bush when he was president, and came
out when they resumed playing, and he threw out the
first pitch and just threw a bullet right down the
middle at the Yankees game, I was like, damn, I
am proud to be an American and hope, I hope
we can get back to that, do you.

Speaker 2 (10:59):
Know what, Gret.

Speaker 3 (11:00):
That was one of the reasons I kind of got
into radio, and I've worked at different places here, but
the great part of working here at KOA is the
fact that you work with a diverse group of people,
very collected with different views and points where you can
learn from, like you know, talking to Mandy, talking to Ross,

(11:21):
learning things and thinking from a different standpoint and just
being open to experience different things. That's the way life
should be. Because most people feel as though, well, someone
grew up different.

Speaker 4 (11:33):
From the way I grew up.

Speaker 3 (11:34):
They don't see the world through my same vision, So
I should have a problem with those individuals. And I
think for me, once again, radios that format that gives
us ability to communicate our viewpoints to different people, whether
regardless of whether they agree with us or not. But
I think we need to talk to each other more
open dialogue. Yes, but when I say, let me rephrase that,

(11:59):
not talk to each other more.

Speaker 1 (12:01):
Listens exactly you're speaking my language.

Speaker 3 (12:05):
Man, Listen more. If we're able to listen, we're able
to grow. And we also see how that other person
has walked through life, and maybe it may spark.

Speaker 4 (12:14):
Some change in us.

Speaker 2 (12:16):
Let's hope so, man.

Speaker 1 (12:16):
And of course we know about the tragic wildfires in
southern California as well, and iHeart has partnered with the
Dream Center taking donations for families affected by the Southern
California wildfires. If you feel so inclined to donate to
residents and need, you can do so by texting Relief
R E L R E L I E F two
three three one zero zero. All right, Well, we are

(12:39):
a sports show and we're gonna go to that. You know,
we're going to provide some levity to some people tonight
that are, you know, kind of bogged down by some
of the tougher things that are going on in our
country right now. Have you been watching these Pro Bowl games.
What are your thoughts on this As a former player.

Speaker 3 (12:55):
It is very interesting to say I miss the old
Pro Bowl games where there was real competition. I remember
the competitive competition as a kid growing up, watching Dan
Marino compete against Booma Size and Jim Kelly in Hawaii
that but you know they're doing it indoors, but I

(13:17):
remember seeing it. They had the fastest man.

Speaker 4 (13:20):
Contest Darryl Green Old, Yes, yes, him running against.

Speaker 7 (13:28):
Man.

Speaker 4 (13:28):
Why am I drawing the blank on his name? I
see him, I see his eyes, I see his face.

Speaker 2 (13:33):
Rod Woodson, Oh yeah, yeah, yeah.

Speaker 4 (13:35):
Rod Woodson. So you know, seeing you know, players like
that back in the day. I love that.

Speaker 3 (13:42):
But now it's different. I'm trying to somewhat adjust to it.
But but I would say this, it's a all cry
better than what we used to see, right because now
they had flag football, and the games should have been
flag football at the time where the guys were competing.

Speaker 1 (14:01):
Yeah, I think it all kind of ended when they
were when they were taking it semi seriously, and then
Sean Taylor lowered the boom.

Speaker 2 (14:07):
I forget who it was on in the Pro Bowl game.

Speaker 3 (14:09):
Buffalo Bill's kicker. You know what really quickly. I heard
stories about Sean. Tell me, because you think you go
through the Pro Bowl, that's kind of a downtime and whatever,
young with your family. It's kind of an all star
game after the season. But Sean took it really serious.
And I never had the playsure of making the Pro Bowl.
I should have, but I was snubbed. But that's a

(14:31):
whole different story. But I would have been the same
player as Sean would have been. I've had to tell
me to slow down, you strap up the pads, your
full go right.

Speaker 1 (14:40):
That's the mentality you've always had in football.

Speaker 4 (14:42):
Yeah, you know what it's like. It's like a risk
car driver.

Speaker 3 (14:44):
Once they insert him in the car and he puts
the helmet on, it's go time.

Speaker 2 (14:48):
He's not gonna go slow round track.

Speaker 1 (14:51):
I want to go fast, Ricky Bobby Way. If you
ain't first, your last. But listen to some of these events.
To the Pro Bowl Challenge, I mean, I love some
of them. The QB Accuracy Challenge was happening earlier. Joe
Burrow went perfect in his round, So that was pretty impressive.

Speaker 2 (15:08):
You know that's my quarterback. You know it gets to
your heart.

Speaker 1 (15:11):
The touch of an angel coming out of Joe Burrow's arms.
But some of these other ones are kind of a joke.
I mean the relay race challenge, the newlywed style trivia challenge.
I don't know exactly what the seekers do you know
exactly what that is?

Speaker 8 (15:24):
Yeah, they were just doing it a second ago. They
had two teammates at AFC was Miles Killerbrew and Cameron Hayward.
NFC it was Andrew van Ginko. I think in some
other Vikings players it was two Vikings and they had
to answer trivia questions about each other, like one of
them was what is your favorite off field hobby? And

(15:45):
you know, they did the newly wed thing where like
they write it on the whiteboard to make sure they're
like answers match up right.

Speaker 4 (15:51):
No, no, no, no, no, you know what here here's what they
should have done.

Speaker 7 (15:54):
Well.

Speaker 4 (15:55):
I liked that idea.

Speaker 3 (15:56):
Well, once again, we're living in a world of entertainment,
right soon.

Speaker 8 (16:01):
Saying that doesn't sound super entertaining to you, No it doesn't.

Speaker 3 (16:04):
But what I'm gonna tell you what does do the
same thing. But have a guy who has his wife, right,
and maybe you have a guy with his Friday night.

Speaker 2 (16:15):
Hook up, Oh with a side piece. Yes, how well
did you know him?

Speaker 4 (16:20):
By the way that's coming out the back.

Speaker 1 (16:22):
It's gonna be like Maury povis out there, like he
comes Tanika side piece from last Tuesday.

Speaker 7 (16:31):
Like, hey, do you remember me?

Speaker 4 (16:32):
That is entertainment? Sign me up for that one.

Speaker 8 (16:35):
When they swap out Eli and Payton for Maury and
Jerry Springer.

Speaker 2 (16:39):
There we go.

Speaker 1 (16:40):
We're talking. Now we can boos some ratings on this
Pro Bowl. I do like, however, you know, as big
of a joke as I think all this is, and
if it wasn't on in the studio right now, I
wouldn't be watching it.

Speaker 2 (16:50):
But my guy is up there talking right now.

Speaker 1 (16:53):
I do like the dodgeball event because I do think
that is and those dudes seem to really compete in that.

Speaker 4 (16:59):
They really take that very seriously.

Speaker 3 (17:02):
Have you guys ever played competitive dodgeball ball in high school?

Speaker 4 (17:06):
Yeah?

Speaker 3 (17:06):
Okay, So my teacher used to take it up with nuts.
So he used to call it guard the pin. So
he would take like a bowling pin and put it
behind each person. Wow, So you had to have a
person who was no their job was to guard the pin,
and everyone else was just kind of fixated around like dodgeball.

Speaker 2 (17:25):
That's fun.

Speaker 1 (17:26):
I never heard that take on what We had a
school wide our whole high school, which wasn't very big
and we're all Southeast Ohio, but we had a school
wide tournament and it was for.

Speaker 2 (17:36):
Some charity that we were running raids of money for.

Speaker 1 (17:39):
Yeah, and my team won, and I was we those
were our bragging rights for the whole rest of the year. Like, oh,
you remember me smashing Dylan in the face during the
during the second round of the dodgeball tournament. Like, if
I saw Dylan in the hall, I'd be like, protect
your face. You know what's coming to kids?

Speaker 6 (17:55):
Yo?

Speaker 3 (17:56):
That is that is so dope to have that type
of tournament because what it produces is that that carderie
and teamwork. Yep, right, And when you go in through
your early development, there's so many things that could go
wrong in your school, but fostering that competitiveness intogetherness, man,
that's yeah, that's awesome.

Speaker 2 (18:16):
Yeah, it was a really fun time.

Speaker 1 (18:17):
And you know, when there's only like one hundred dudes
in your high school, you got a pretty good chance of.

Speaker 2 (18:21):
Being a decent athlete.

Speaker 1 (18:22):
So there's not too much competition that you have to
go up against. But speaking of teammates and the newlywed game,
I do have this great quote from Patrick Beverly on
his podcast to Pat Bevpod. I want to get to
later about some advice he received from Kawhi Leonard and
I'd love to know some advice. We talked about coaches

(18:42):
advice last night with Cody.

Speaker 2 (18:44):
I'd love to know some advice.

Speaker 1 (18:45):
Either you gave to a player or a teammate gave
to you, and how that stuck with you over time.

Speaker 2 (18:51):
I want to get to that here in just a
little bit.

Speaker 1 (18:53):
But we got Benjamin Albright, our own, our very own
wet blanket coming up here after this break. You're listening
to Broncos Country a night on KOA eight fifty am
and ninety four one FM Snoop Ben The song is
for you.

Speaker 2 (19:12):
What do you think about it?

Speaker 1 (19:13):
Is this one of your jams? Or are you a
hater of Vanessa Carlton.

Speaker 7 (19:19):
It's the show for one week. I leave the show
for one week and we have Vanessa Carlton.

Speaker 4 (19:24):
What are we doing?

Speaker 1 (19:25):
You could blame Nick for that one. You can blame
Nick for that one.

Speaker 6 (19:29):
Oh my goodness.

Speaker 7 (19:30):
Yeah, I have to come back here and it's going
to be all a c DC.

Speaker 2 (19:35):
We're going to make it back into a man show.

Speaker 4 (19:38):
Come on, Bismond all light. We just had to soften
up the edge is just a little. That's all we
have to do.

Speaker 7 (19:43):
I you know, I don't know how to do that.

Speaker 3 (19:47):
I know that you don't know how to do that.
That's why we try to do it for you.

Speaker 6 (19:52):
I'm old and krusty.

Speaker 7 (19:53):
I don't have soft.

Speaker 1 (19:56):
Oh, Ben, you're down live at the Senior Ball. We've
been having yall on Koa Sports all week. First things first,
the important questions. What has been the best food and
drink establishment you have gone to so far?

Speaker 7 (20:10):
Oh that's a tough choice.

Speaker 6 (20:12):
You know.

Speaker 7 (20:12):
I have a tradition down here where I eat the
burger that's called the sugar rush. And for those of
you listening who don't know what that is, that is
a one third pound burger burger slathered in cherry doctor
pepper barbecue sauce with two strips of brown sugar, chili pepper, bacon,
a slice of sharp tit or cheese, caramelized onion squeezed

(20:33):
in between two doughnuts. And you know, I thought this year,
if this is the one and if if I croak
eating this, at least I went out doing what I loved.

Speaker 2 (20:40):
Well, minus the burger. That sounds pretty good.

Speaker 3 (20:43):
Okay, Michael Leso just went up a little hearing you
say that, because I thought you were going to go
full Paula Dene wrap it in bacon and deep fry
it or something like that.

Speaker 7 (20:56):
You know, I honestly, if they would, I would, but
you know, maybe for all powdered sugar on top of it.
But you know, at this point, I just went with
what they had, And you know, I'm going to recommend
that to the next time I'm down here.

Speaker 4 (21:07):
I like it.

Speaker 2 (21:07):
I like it.

Speaker 1 (21:08):
I'm sure they'll take your suggestion as much money as
you probably spend down there. In a week, they'll probably
be like, it'll be named the Benjamin Albrightberger after this.

Speaker 2 (21:15):
Before we get to your.

Speaker 1 (21:16):
Thoughts on some of the stuff happening down at the
Senior Bowl, you had some intel on the Justin Tucker
story before it broke, But now that it has broke,
what can you tell us about all the details of
this story.

Speaker 7 (21:31):
Well, I don't want to get into explicit details because frankly,
some of it's gross, But you know, at the end
of the day, I get tipped off to this.

Speaker 6 (21:39):
Beginning of the week.

Speaker 7 (21:40):
I was trying to write it down. The multiple banner
congratulations to them got to the finish line before I
did on this, which maybe an apple po euphemism given
what Tucker's accused of, but the allegations are basically that
he has been wildly inappropriate and massage parlors for years.
He's been banned from multiple massage parlors. Six women have

(22:00):
come forward so far, and I happen to know there's
about a dozen more that are that are waiting to
They just want their names out there publicly, you know,
tobarrass their families, that kind of stuff. This is not
the same thing as Deshaun Watson, where Watson was soliciting
people in that regard. This was Tucker trying to cause
interactions to happen.

Speaker 6 (22:21):
You know.

Speaker 7 (22:21):
This isn't a situation where where like with Watson, where
he was dming people on Instagram and this kind of stuff.
These were team at the beginning, team appointed as well
as people that were in contract with the Baltimore Ravens.
This is something that the Ravens have known about for years.
Multiple women came forward prior to twenty eighteen, he has
been banned from at least two massage parlors there in Baltimore.

(22:46):
And again this wasn't These aren't ceed massage parlors that
he was banned from. These are these are the ones
that were you know, that were that were doing a
professional job, and he was doing things inappropriately in those
parlors that caused to be removed and banned.

Speaker 3 (23:01):
Well, then, I know you said that this is not
similar to the Deshaun Watson story, but I.

Speaker 4 (23:08):
Do remember vaguely at the very beginning, this is how
things started.

Speaker 3 (23:12):
It was kind of a slow trickle maybe a couple
of women here, and then explode it to.

Speaker 4 (23:18):
Many more women.

Speaker 3 (23:19):
Do you think that this could be another case because
we're talking about another prominent player.

Speaker 4 (23:25):
You mentioned that, hey, you know Baltimore, they were aware
of this.

Speaker 3 (23:28):
Now I'm thinking how much information did Baltimore?

Speaker 7 (23:32):
No?

Speaker 3 (23:33):
But could this belong to a Deshaun Watson type situation?

Speaker 6 (23:38):
Well?

Speaker 7 (23:38):
Yeah, I mean, like I said, there are six women
that have come forward to put their name on it.
I know of about ten more that I believe are credible,
and then there's another seven or eight that I've talked
to that, I'm not quite sure, you know, like you
want to believe everybody, but their stories there were either
inconsistencies of their stories or I couldn't confirm them. So

(23:59):
there are significantly more to come. There's more to come
on this, which is probably the wrong phrasing to use here,
But at the end of the day, I think that
this is going to be something that's that's it's bad
for Justin Tucker. I think it's going to be really
bad for the Ravens organization because they absolutely knew uh
and this wasn't the only thing that they've known about

(24:19):
and let slide under the table. In recent years, you know,
the Zay Flowers situation with his with his domestic partner.
There was a violent abuse case that suddenly disappeared and
all of a sudden, the witness didn't want to talk,
but had a bank bank account full of cash. So,
you know, there have been situations from this organization over
the last couple of years that are going to come

(24:39):
out of scrutiny, and I think the Baltimore Ravens organization
is about to get a black eye.

Speaker 1 (24:45):
Yeah, and you mentioned earlier on KOs KOA Sports, you know,
going back to ray Lewis, Jamal Lewis, Ray Rice.

Speaker 2 (24:51):
I mean, that's this is this is a bad luck
for the Ravens.

Speaker 1 (24:54):
But pivoting to the Senior Bowl, what what if you made.

Speaker 2 (24:57):
Of this QB class there?

Speaker 1 (24:59):
I know, the narrative of all off season and leading
up to the draft and the combine here it's been
kind of a weak class. Has that narrative changed it
all down there?

Speaker 6 (25:09):
I don't think so.

Speaker 7 (25:10):
I think it's a pretty weak class. I don't think
any of these quarterbacks would have gone before Bo Nicks
in the last draft, you know, so I I you know,
it's not certainly teams aren't very enamored overall with this
class there are you know, it's like going into an
ice cream shop. There are some flavors here that somebody's
gonna absolutely be excited about, but the reality is by

(25:30):
and large that that I don't think they are. I mean,
you know, we talk about you know, cam Ward and
you know in Shador Sanders, but I'm not even sure
that Shade Sanders is the second quarterback for on every
team's board. Not that those boards are finalized yet or anything,
but you know, a lot of the feedback that I
got this week was that there are teams that might
even prefer Jackson Dart to Shador Sanders, So wow, I

(25:54):
would not be surprised. I know the Giants love Shador.
Cleveland certainly spent a lot of time around him. I
don't know if they love them or not. We'll see
how those kind of things shake out. I expect cam
Ward to be the first quarterback taken, and then you know,
I really don't know about the rest of this class.

Speaker 4 (26:08):
You know, it would not.

Speaker 7 (26:08):
Surprise me to see not another quarterback in the first round.
Wouldn't surprise me to see two other quarterbacks in the
first round.

Speaker 3 (26:14):
Well, for me being an investive person myself thinking about
the Broncos needs, I'm thinking.

Speaker 4 (26:20):
About the linebacker position.

Speaker 6 (26:22):
Now.

Speaker 3 (26:22):
I've been reading a couple of things in the past
couple of days, but there was a name that really
kind of jumped out based on how he was able
to cover running backs on the backfield, and that's Florida
linebacker of Shamar James. What more can you tell me?
And what did you see when you were out there?
As it potains to this particular player, Well, you.

Speaker 7 (26:40):
Know, I thought he was I thought think he sees
athletic you know, certainly had to handle the assignment's given
to him pretty well. You know, I didn't. I didn't
have my eyes on every snap, so I couldn't couldn't
sit there and do that. But he looked comfortable, uh,
you know, in his back pedals as well as going
side to side. So you know, I think, uh, there's
certainly a viable NFL future there. If I had to

(27:02):
pick one linebacker that really jumped out of me, I'd
say Basa out of Oregon for me. You know, you
get a bunch of football players together, writ's a bunch
of alphas, right. You get a bunch of football players together,
you look for the guy that's taking charge. That was
the dude taking charge every single like just naturally, you know,
every practice, and it was it was interesting to sort
of watch. He had a pretty good week, you know,

(27:22):
kid from Notre Dame looked all right. There's a couple here.
I think this is interesting because as weak as this
draft class is, it's strong at the positions that the
Broncos need. And so I find that kind of dichotomy
sort of fascinating. How the Broncos I think I'm probably
going to luck into a pretty good draft class overall
for them, simply because the areas where this draft is
strong line up with the needs that Broncos have.

Speaker 1 (27:45):
Well, we'll take that in Broncos country. We got about
sixty seconds here, Ben.

Speaker 2 (27:50):
I know you've been hob nobbin.

Speaker 1 (27:51):
With some pretty big names around the league. I don't
expect you to mention any of that. But what has
the narrative been around the Broncos and how they perform
this passing and then the outlook for them going into
next year?

Speaker 7 (28:03):
Well, you know when when Roger Goodell and I sat that,
I'm just kidding. I think I think the narrative is
that the Broncos could be an upcoming team. I think
everybody wants to see year two with bow Nix. I
think they like what they saw year one, but they
want to be convinced by year two. I think the
Broncos outperformed a lot of expectations. But I think a
lot of people think here or think that that the
sports books and people overall undersold on the Broncos quality

(28:27):
of roster, and so I think that's I think that's
a part of it as well. We'll see, you know
next year. How about you get the year of tape
on this on this team and how they react to it.
But I think I don't go sneak up on anybody
next year. They're certainly in a tougher division now if
pee care with the Raiders. But overall, I think people
were pleasantly surprised by the Broncos last year.

Speaker 1 (28:45):
Well, Ben, thanks for joining us on your vacation down
there at the Senior Bowl. I love a guy that's
always working on his vacation. But go have a beer
for me and we'll see you when you get back
in town.

Speaker 6 (28:54):
All right, I guess than care.

Speaker 1 (28:56):
All right, there's our very own Benjamin all Bright too.
I am obvious sleep filling in for alongside Nick Ferguson.

Speaker 3 (29:07):
Heard this one and uh sounded like got a little
banjo in it.

Speaker 2 (29:12):
I'm glad the banjo is back with Mumford.

Speaker 3 (29:14):
It's a little different than the banjo that was played
the other night.

Speaker 4 (29:17):
It was too much benjo.

Speaker 2 (29:18):
Yeah that.

Speaker 3 (29:20):
I was like, oh, I need to look around. He
was happy, But I'd rather I like that song.

Speaker 1 (29:25):
Yeah, rush me or It's off their first new album
in seven years. We just started playing it on KBCO
of course, where I do the evening shift and uh,
I can't get enough of it.

Speaker 3 (29:34):
Yeah, once again, these are all songs and artists that
back in my old neighborhood, it wouldn't be allowed.

Speaker 1 (29:43):
You have to listen to that quietly in your room,
very quietly. Well, speaking of a man who knows plenty
about music, we're gonna get head out to the KOA
Common Spirit Health Hotline.

Speaker 2 (29:53):
And bring on the one and only Rick Lewis. Rick,
how are you tonight this evening?

Speaker 6 (29:57):
Hey man, I'm doing good and yeah, I'm with Nick.
I thought we were going to talk about Taco meet
in the seventies and now you're playing Mumfort.

Speaker 1 (30:06):
What do you think about Mumford and Sons? That's probably
not your style really, right, not really?

Speaker 6 (30:11):
But you know, I appreciate all music, and I think
they're great. You know, it's not my thing, but I
certainly have respect for them as artists and songwriters. But
I'm more about the you know, the funk, the R
and B. Like Nick said, you know, you wouldn't be
playing that Nix neighborhood. Same with me.

Speaker 1 (30:34):
Well, hey man, you made me appreciate funk music, that's
for sure for a white boy from Southeast Ohio. But
I didn't expect we were going to have you on
tonight because you were celebrating your grandson's birthday. But he
texted me during the last break and you heard what
we were talking about at the beginning of the show,
and you said you had a pretty monumental story about
a memory from nine to eleven that you had.

Speaker 6 (30:56):
Yeah, I was driving home from my grandson's sixth birthday
listening to you guys, and you were talking about nine
to eleven. And I think pretty much everybody listening to
the show tonight has at least some memory of nine
to eleven. And for me, I was on the radio

(31:17):
when that second plane flew into the World Trade Center.
And when I say when I was on when I
was on the radio, I was live on the radio
and had the TV news on because we had heard
that a plane had flown into the tower. And we're like, what,
let's turn on the news. We turned on the TV
and this is all live on my Fox Morning show

(31:39):
and as we're talking on live radio, that second plane
flew into the tower and suddenly the whole world changed.
And I'll never forget the pivot that we had to
make on the show that morning, and I basically turned
into the best version of a new Man that I

(32:00):
can be, and talked about it the entire morning because
it happened a little bit after seven am, and I
remember telling myself, you know, not to panic, don't get
too excited, don't exaggerate anything, because I just had a
sense that the whole country had just tilted and was

(32:22):
about to spin out of control. And for me, that
was the most memorable radio show I've ever done. Even
talking about it today, you know, I get a little
bit emotional. And then later that week, my band was
scheduled to play a big show in Longbox. It was
the Longmont Octoberfest, and it was on Main Street in Longmont,

(32:47):
and the whole town would come out for the show.
And we played it a couple of years previous, and
some people will say it or saying, hey man, you
guys can't play the show man. How to respect you guys.
You guys just need to stay home and not do this.
As you guys might remember, you know, they were shutting
down everything back then, and there were shows that were

(33:09):
canceled and all kinds of events that were canceled at
that time. But the people in Longmont told us, hey, man,
we need you, guys, we need this, We need you
to come up. And so we went up with the band,
and sure enough, there might have been seven eight thousand
people in the streets.

Speaker 7 (33:29):
Wow.

Speaker 6 (33:30):
And everybody was holding a candle up to their face.
And we opened the show with the star spangled banner,
played it and Grant, you've seen my band do this before.
And we were holding this giant flag that went all
the way across the stage. And I'm getting a little
choked off talking about it. Well, we played the banner

(33:54):
and I could look down and see all these faces
with this candle up to their face and tears running
down their face. I'm talking kids, I'm talking full grown
men and women. My dad, mom, and my dad and
mom were in the crowd in the first couple of rows,
same thing, you know, my dad being a vet, tears

(34:14):
running down the space. Man, and I could barely hold
it together. You know, I was standing there holding this
flag with tears streaming down my face and trying not
to just start sobbing. It was that special, man, It
was that powerful in that movie. I will never ever
forget that night.

Speaker 2 (34:34):
Man, that's the power of music right there.

Speaker 1 (34:36):
And Rick, thanks for reaching out man and sharing that
story with us. Sorry, we got to cut it short here,
we got to hit a break, but thank you so
much for reaching out and sharing that powerful story with us.

Speaker 6 (34:47):
Appreciate it, guys, Thanks for letting me share that. Ye
have a great night, man, You guys have a good night. Thanks.

Speaker 2 (34:52):
All right.

Speaker 1 (34:53):
So that's the one and only Rick Lewis and He's
