Speaker 3 (00:24):
Dry January esterdays, like have you looked at Yeah, it's February,
get you a hurricane.
Speaker 4 (00:30):
I'm just saying, maybe that's why he was trying to
channel is in enter January even though we were in
the month of February.
Speaker 2 (00:38):
Right, So he's starrying to stay sober.
Speaker 5 (00:40):
There you go.
Speaker 4 (00:41):
If he's one month behind, he felt as though he's
right on schedule.
Speaker 2 (00:44):
It's like a Tom conflin methodology. Fifteen minutes early.
Speaker 5 (00:47):
Is to be on top.
Speaker 4 (00:48):
Yeah, and you guys are trying to disrupt him, and
he's trying to say, well, I'm on a big schedule,
even though my schedule maybe two weeks off.
Speaker 5 (00:55):
Let me roll with my schedule.
Speaker 2 (00:57):
This's is pair pressure. This is what we do.
Speaker 1 (00:58):
Yeah, trying to grow to the beer back town. I'm
just saying, you're gonna be down there in New Orleans.
I think this week too.
Speaker 4 (01:03):
Yeah, yeah, I'm considerate considering possibly maybe will we be
graced with an appearance from Nick Ferguson on the show?
Speaker 2 (01:14):
Are you going to be too busy?
Speaker 5 (01:16):
Yeah?
Speaker 4 (01:16):
I don't know about that one. I don't know about
that one.
Speaker 1 (01:22):
Oh well, it's uh, sounds like it's fun down there,
and he's got a bunch of good stuff. Talk to
a couple of free you talk to your report to
Ryan Leaf, couple friends of mine down here. So I
get a chance to, uh to catch up with him
and what the latest and grace with him is.
Speaker 4 (01:35):
Uh.
Speaker 1 (01:36):
You know, the the question is starting to come up
as we as we round the corner on the end
of this season. I mean, obviously the super Bowl is still
in front of us, but for the Broncos, the season
is over and we're looking at.
Speaker 2 (01:46):
What they need to do. What these next steps are?
Speaker 1 (01:48):
We made the playoffs last year, What can we do
to continue building this thing out to be better for
next year, and it feels like the debate is really
coming down to running back versus playmaking tight end. There
are still some fringe why receiver people out there that
think we need another receiver. So I call them fringe
people because well, I don't respect them, but it's.
Speaker 4 (02:09):
I think, Ben, I'm trying to get you got You
got to break it down, like we discussed before, needs
versus want.
Speaker 5 (02:18):
That's what every decision comes down to.
Speaker 4 (02:21):
And at the end of the day, the team's biggest
concern and what they should be focused on, no matter
what the position is, how do we help Bo? That's it.
That's the one thing. How do we help Bo? And
that is a number of things most people, when you
think about that, it sounds as though, well, the only
way the Broncos can help Bo is by adding players
(02:44):
either via free agency.
Speaker 5 (02:46):
Or via the draft. No. I mean those are two
key parts of it.
Speaker 4 (02:51):
But you go back and you assess what was a
scheme like last season?
Speaker 5 (02:56):
Where do you tweak it here and there?
Speaker 4 (02:57):
Because other teams that are gonna get film, you're not
going to be able to run the same thing. Now,
can't you run certain things? Just be more efficient at it. Yes,
but now it's tweaking every single thing that you do
as a team to help both succeed.
Speaker 5 (03:14):
And am I a true fan?
Speaker 6 (03:15):
It is no.
Speaker 4 (03:16):
And the reason I'm not because everything is just focused
on a quarterback position in the league when there's other
positions that contribute to the success of the quarterback.
Speaker 5 (03:26):
But this is the rule of thinking.
Speaker 4 (03:28):
So that means looking at personnel, play calls, when those
calls are play, how players are deploy And then you
may say, well, what can the Broncos do in free
agency to change a couple of things on defense to
give bow more possessions?
Speaker 2 (03:44):
Yeah, and the questions.
Speaker 1 (03:45):
They are really bowl down to do we need a
playmaker in the passing game. We need a running back
that is able to generate enough when they run the
ball that we're not behind the chains and having to
rely on the passing game.
Speaker 5 (03:58):
But is it just running the ball?
Speaker 4 (04:00):
I mean, here we are again with the concept and
an idea of Okay, they just give us another runner
and all of a sudden things are going to change.
Speaker 2 (04:07):
I'm like, no, it's not right.
Speaker 1 (04:09):
I think there are elements to the scheme, almost to
the blocking elements to you know, and there are elements
to the way that we use the running backs, not
letting them get in rid of all they got. We've
covered those kinds of things, but I'm talking about in
terms of personnel. Guess Javonte probably not.
Speaker 2 (04:23):
Going to be back.
Speaker 1 (04:23):
If we're being honest here, it's a business. We know
how this business operates, not a Sean Payton drafted guy.
The production hasn't been there, whether that's his fault or not,
and you're coming up on having to pay him, so
why not go to the draft and get somebody on
a cost controlled option. But I would argue that the
bigger need is a playmaking tight end. You go back
(04:46):
and you look at what Sean Payton has success has
traditionally succeeded with on offense and where those have been
the best, and it's when they have a playmaking tight
end that takes those linebackers or safeties or whatever and
clears them out and they does open things up for
the run game.
Speaker 2 (05:03):
It opens things up for the wide receiver.
Speaker 5 (05:05):
You know.
Speaker 1 (05:06):
One of the concepts that they kind of try to
hammer home these different route combinations to do it, but
we call that that spam and the slant like you
used to do to Michael Thomas right the slant God,
But a lot of that was because they had tight
ends would clear out the area there.
Speaker 2 (05:19):
You know, you put the.
Speaker 1 (05:20):
Tight end on a seam router, you put them up vertical,
clear out that area and then run the slant right
in behind it.
Speaker 2 (05:25):
And that's what made that so effective. And we did
not have tight ends that were able to do that.
Speaker 1 (05:30):
Whether or not they were capable of doing it remains
to be seen, but they did not do that last
year in actuality whenever they were out there.
Speaker 4 (05:39):
Well, see that making a person to upgrades like that,
it changes a lot. Like you said, it increases space
and volume to be able to run the ball, because
it doesn't make sense for any coach around the league
to say, you know what, we feel as though we
have a physical, bruiser type running back and yeah, we
don't care they have eight to nine in the box.
(05:59):
We're still going to do that for what That makes
absolutely no sense. Having a tight end definitely opens up
and create space for the wide receivers for the run
game because things have to change around here. Because your
favorite play, even though it is a good play and
I like it, you can't continue to go to that
well too many times because some teams have figured it out.
Speaker 5 (06:21):
And what I'm talking.
Speaker 4 (06:21):
About is the deep over route, Right, If you're going
to run the deep over route, it has to be
complimented by something else, right, A tight end an effect.
Let me change my phrasing, right, because people are just
saying get a tight end. No, no, no, no, you just
can't get any tight end. You need the tight end. Why.
You need a guy that has a certain skill set.
(06:42):
And you can argue with me all you want to
were you you want a guy that's like baseball? You
always talking about five a five to two guy, right,
So with the tight end, you know what, I need
a guy who can sustain the block. Right. He doesn't
have to be a guy that he's going to drive
guys off the ball. Are you will, in the case
sustained the block, but more than pale? Are you athletic
(07:03):
in enough to threaten the defense? Not just inside the
red zone, but you know midfield?
Speaker 5 (07:08):
Can we do that? You need one of those types
of guys.
Speaker 4 (07:11):
And I think if the Broncos did that, man, it
opens things up for everyone.
Speaker 2 (07:17):
Yeah, and that's that's what I'm advocating for. I don't know.
Speaker 1 (07:20):
I mean, based on everything I heard when I was
down there in Mobile, I'm Tyler Warren's not going to
be there, and Ashon Jant He's not going to be there.
So let's take the number one running back tight end
off the board there, Gunner held Well, yeah, Gunner heelm.
You could probably get the third or fourth round. I
mean if if you look at that, you know, Roddy
Gaston Junior or the second There's a guy I've been
advocating for out of Syracuse. You know, I think he
I think he would do really well in this offense.
(07:42):
Right now, the mock draft seem to be throwing Colston
Loveland at us.
Speaker 2 (07:46):
I'm less enamored with that thing?
Speaker 5 (07:47):
Is mud Zeff? What one point?
Speaker 2 (07:49):
On one point?
Speaker 3 (07:50):
Yeah?
Speaker 1 (07:50):
You know me, I do want to year, and I
do it in April. Could But you know how these
mock drafters are. They do fifty of them and then
they all claim, look, I remember the time I got
this one right in mock Draft seventeen revision, fifteen seventeen version.
Speaker 2 (08:00):
Yeah, of course you're gonna get it right.
Speaker 1 (08:02):
You plugged in like that, guys, These guys anyway, right now,
Colson Loveden seems to be the popular pick plugging into
the Broncos. Do we like that, Do we think he's
a great fit. Do we think we could do better?
Speaker 4 (08:13):
You know what, you can always do better. But you know,
every team goes through a situation when they draft a
guy they say, we got the guy that we always wanted,
and that may not necessarily be the truth right looking
at their draft board, but once the guy is selected, yes,
that's the guy you chose, So you have to make
it work. Now, going back to what you're saying about
(08:34):
Javonte in particular situation, I mean a lot of coaches
are really biased, biased based on their ideology. They're they're
coaching philosophies and players that they select. So if they
select the player, obviously they will they're going to be
more apt to try to do what they can to
(08:55):
make sure that they showcase that player opposed to someone
that they are acquiring.
Speaker 5 (09:00):
Right. We've seen it play outs.
Speaker 4 (09:01):
So many times around this league, but not just the Broncos,
but so many teams. So that's why is important. It's
vital for Sean Payne George Payton be on the same
page identified players and say, you know what, that may
not have been the player that we wanted or the
Mott drafts in all seventeen versions said that we should get,
but we took a guy.
Speaker 2 (09:21):
We have to make it work.
Speaker 5 (09:23):
That's got to be the philosophy.
Speaker 2 (09:24):
Yeah, and I'm you know, looking forward to that.
Speaker 1 (09:27):
Is there any players and it doesn't necessarily have to
be tight in the running, because the any players college
players that you would love you watch this year you'd.
Speaker 2 (09:32):
Love to have on the Denver Broncos.
Speaker 1 (09:33):
I mean, obviously we don't love Travis Hunter and all
that kind of stuff, but I mean, realistically, is there
any players that that you saw this year that you're like,
you know what, I'd really love to see that guy
at Denver Broncos uniform.
Speaker 4 (09:42):
Well, I mean, I mean Toyler Warren, I said I
would sometimes guys are.
Speaker 2 (09:48):
Going to be gone. That's fine.
Speaker 4 (09:49):
Mike Ozeki, right, yes, oh from the Bengals.
Speaker 5 (09:53):
From the Bengals.
Speaker 4 (09:53):
Yeah, that that that's definitely a guy who I think
would fit here. We we got to say it's the
same use personal.
Speaker 1 (10:00):
Yes, yes, So I like Kasseki ever since he came
out back he was with Miami. I thought he was
underused or improperly utilized quite a bit. There.
Speaker 5 (10:07):
I'm with you on that.
Speaker 2 (10:08):
I would love to see, you know, if if they're
gonna do it, I do believe they'll go out and.
Speaker 1 (10:11):
Get Jawan Johnson, who Champagne already knows. But I'd love
to see my Koseki here. I think that's the kind
of guy who can who can line up in line
and you can also make him off the line why
and he can open things up.
Speaker 4 (10:23):
And for me, that is exactly what you need because
there's an evolution to this particular game of football, and
you can't stay stuck in the past. Now you can't
you merge old school with new school football. Yes you can,
but staying totally old school it presents problems because the
(10:45):
league continues that pendulum continues to swing forward right, and
it's taking the game into a whole different level. So
it's outside of the box thinking and being able to
have a tight end that you can open up. And
because if you get a tight end that you can
flex out and he could run routes like a wide receiver,
now you got to put your top corner on him,
(11:06):
which now means is that that wide receiver who's playing
the ex or disease. He's in the slot, right, And
how many teams have three or let alone two good corners?
Speaker 6 (11:16):
Right?
Speaker 1 (11:16):
And you can if you, if you come out of
that personnel grouping, people can't tell if you're sitting there
in you know, with three wides or four if you,
if you, if you, if you bring a Jimmy Graham
in right, do you got.
Speaker 2 (11:27):
Three wide receivers out? There are four? He flects him
all the way out, then how are you covering that?
Speaker 1 (11:30):
Because if you if you count that as three, that
means you're a linebacker on somebody and you split a
linebacker all the.
Speaker 2 (11:35):
Way out wide to go cover.
Speaker 5 (11:36):
Mike oh Seki whether he's gonna get torch.
Speaker 4 (11:38):
Yeah, But if as soon as you do that, the
quarterback goes, oh, we got him. He's in the hand motion,
just like what Patrick Mahomes did to the Buffalo Bills
on our last play to SOMEBODYGP Ryan to secure the victory. Right,
we already identified that you're in man coverage. You cannot
disguise it.
Speaker 5 (11:56):
Yep.
Speaker 4 (11:56):
So now we got you, yep, here comes a man beater.
So that's kind of what a premiere tight.
Speaker 5 (12:03):
End can do to you.
Speaker 1 (12:04):
Yes, forces, it dictates coverages, and once you dictate coverages,
they're easy to it's easier to decipher what to do
with the ball.
Speaker 2 (12:09):
Yes, and so that that that brings me back to that.
Speaker 1 (12:11):
Like as much as I would love to see, for instance,
O Mario and Hampton here as a running back, I
feel like whatever you do, whether it's free agency, whether
it's a draft tight end, a playmaking tight end has
to be the top focus for this team outside of
free safety on the offensive side of the ball, A
playmaking tight end on the defensive sidetable, a playmaking free safety.
Uh that that has that has one high coverage ability
(12:32):
uh and and and then after that then we start
talking about the rest of it.
Speaker 5 (12:36):
Oh well, as we talk about running backs too as well.
Speaker 4 (12:39):
I was thinking about this kid out of Ohio State, uh,
Clishan Jenkins Judkins.
Speaker 5 (12:44):
Yeah.
Speaker 4 (12:44):
Yes, Now once again I mean asking jen Zy was
that guy that everyone wants? But there are other guys
that that are off there there are right, And the
question is like, if you were in that position with
the Broncos are sitting at twenty, would you say, okay, well,
this is a nice spot to take a running back
for me? Obviously you look at what the guys are
(13:05):
on a board, But for me, you move back in
the first round so you're able to get maybe you're
tight end and you're running back.
Speaker 1 (13:12):
Well, that would be an ideal situation if you're able
to pull something like that off. I wanted the text
her said, what about Caleb Johnson, the running back out
of Iowa. I like him a lot, powerful runner. I
don't know, you know, I don't know exactly how Denver
feels about him. I will say the contingency that I
talked to when I was down there in Mobile from
Dallas certainly loved him, so it'd be interesting to see
where he winds up. I like the Mario and Hampton
(13:32):
a little bit better than I like Caleb Johnson, just
because I think Hampton's a better receiver out of the
backfield as well. I think both guys run with power,
but I feel like Hampton's a better receiver. It just
gives you a little bit more in my opinion, Both
those guys are in the you know, in the six
foot two twenty range in terms of size, which is
what which is?
Speaker 5 (13:48):
You know?
Speaker 2 (13:49):
Something that you value there as well?
Speaker 1 (13:50):
If you're looking for the physical archetype of of you
know what it is they look for in these situations.
Speaker 5 (13:54):
Well, for me, it.
Speaker 4 (13:55):
Doesn't make a difference where the Broncos go with their
draft picks or even their free agency. The thing is
that they have to get players that have a certain
attitude and what I'm talking about guys with physicality.
Speaker 7 (14:13):
I think probably towards the draft. Anybody who watches the
NFL Sage Change podcast. No, I'm not going to say
anything bad about Ardia guest may, but no, I think
that I think that you still need sort of that
lead back, that dynamic back to really be able to
again give you that consistent production that you want out
of the backfield. You're right, I don't think they're taking
Anstion Genty in the first round. I mean, he falls
to him maybe, but I don't think that he's going
to I think he's probably the only option that you
(14:33):
would really consider there. I think more of a second
third round pick makes a ton of sense.
Speaker 6 (14:38):
For this team.
Speaker 7 (14:38):
But there's a lot of really great backs that they're
going to be within that range. You know, Quinnshaw, Judkins,
the Trebion Henderson, you know Dylan Samson from Tennessee.
Speaker 6 (14:44):
You mentioned camp Scataboo.
Speaker 7 (14:45):
Maybe he's more of a second round pick, but that's
somebody who's on their radar as well. Caleb Johnson from
Iowa if you want to take a chance on him
in the second round. I don't know if we'll get
to the third round. But then there's so many other
backs like r. J. Harvey, who I really like from
UCF and Damian Martinez if you want a bigger back
from Miami.
Speaker 2 (15:00):
There's just so many guys this year that can be.
Speaker 7 (15:03):
That potential difference maker for them out of the backfield.
So it's a great year to need a running back.
I think probably something around the third fourth round makes
a lot of sense for this team to hone in
on one.
Speaker 1 (15:11):
Last Trevor Sikima from formerly from the Draft art We're
called of Pro Football Focus. Anthony Rodriguez talking to him
down there in uh New Orleans, mentioned a couple of
names you mentioned right there, michiganuple names I mentioned right there.
Speaker 2 (15:21):
I think there are.
Speaker 5 (15:22):
Uh.
Speaker 1 (15:22):
The one thing I will say coming back from Obile
is the the that Broncos fans should be excited about
is that this draft, while not particularly loaded with talent
compared to regular drafts, is loaded at the areas that
Broncos have needs and that's something Broncos fan should be excited.
Speaker 5 (15:37):
I mean, that's where you take advantage.
Speaker 4 (15:39):
Van is like you don't have to take a running
back in the first round, especially saying okay, well there's
a possibility that these backs could be there and understanding
who fits your scheme? Uh well, like the idea of
Cam Scatable. I know that's a name that doesn't really
excite people, but for me is like, if you want
(15:59):
to be a physical down here running team, to me,
you need guys who possess that. And for me, when
I started to look at running backs and I evaluate them,
I think about, Okay, well, in the time period that
I played, would those running backs have been able to
play in my era? And how would they fared against
Dawkins myself, Kenoy Kennedy, John Lynch, do they bring that
(16:23):
same type of physicality? Because I could tell you, man
playing against Marshawn Lynch, Dude, you gotta have your mind ready.
Speaker 5 (16:29):
You better have your mind ready.
Speaker 4 (16:31):
In some cases, I hope you got your will ready.
Speaker 2 (16:34):
To Yeah, my mind would never be ready enough. I'll
just say.
Speaker 5 (16:38):
Yeah, but your body.
Speaker 2 (16:41):
Telling me we got breaking Hey Rod laugh of No
Orleans when we come back.
Speaker 5 (16:45):
I'm just about that action.
Speaker 8 (16:46):
Boss who's not a swiftye Hey Rod, how's it going, gentlemen? Well,
why not add a couple extra to the hundreds of
thousands of tallly of Swifties that have already h shown
their bad luck and disdain towards me because of that
little interaction I had with Travis Kelsey?
Speaker 6 (17:04):
So why not a few more? I appreciate that guy.
It's good to be with you again. How are you?
Speaker 5 (17:07):
We're doing all right?
Speaker 1 (17:09):
I like I tried to keep up with the coverage today.
I missed whatever the Swift whatever you did to the Swifties,
So I don't what did you do to get yourself
in such trouble with the Taylor Swift fan base.
Speaker 8 (17:19):
Yes, well, I'll start by saying this Ross asked me
this morning regards to kind of the comparison between different
athletes that give players speak and coach speak, and you know,
obviously we talking about you know, NHL players are probably
at the bottom of the list I kind of give,
you know, really genuine answers, and then probably near the
top of this, especially because the last couple decades of
Bill Belichick led teams. You kind of give those canned
(17:42):
players speak coach deep responses. So I was thinking, well, okay,
that means I'm gonna be able to get a response
that I'm gonna want out of Travis Kelcey. And my
question was to Travis about Taylor Swift. You know, when
it comes down to it, NFL fans, maybe not all
of them are Taylor Swift fans. What would be your
pitch to those NFL fans that are not Swifties? And
(18:03):
I expected a you know, at least a thirty second
nice can you know Taylor Swift boyfriend ask response? And instead,
what do I get? Basically the equivalent of a verbal backhand,
and he says, who's not a Swiftie and then immediately
disregards me, Yes, immediately disregards me and then looks off
to the side. And my weight for asking Travis Kelsey
(18:23):
a question, what's quickly over? And now hundreds and I
wish I were exaggerating. Hundreds of thousands of people have
either watched our video or or ripped the video, put
it in all the Taylor Swift fan accounts on x TikTok, Instagram, Facebook,
you name it, and have basically put me to shame.
I can't show my face anywhere near Taylor Swift fan events,
not like I was going to anyway, but yeah, that's
(18:45):
where we are now.
Speaker 4 (18:46):
Well, Ay Rod, I mean, I guess as the resident
of I don't want to say Taylor Swift fan, but
a person who listened to her on the show. I
don't think you did a disservice to Travis Kelsey or
Taylor Swift asking.
Speaker 5 (18:58):
A very legitimate question, and so good on you. My
question for for.
Speaker 4 (19:03):
You, I know you were roaming around you getting interviews
of different individuals. Who's interview has stood out the most
for you so far that you've done.
Speaker 6 (19:14):
But by far for me, there's really two that stand out.
Speaker 8 (19:17):
But the first one that immediately came on mind when
you started asking that question was Chiefs stefensive coordinator Steve
Steve Spagnolo, who, again back to the point about coach
speaking players speak. You often, you know here, especially from
a division rival like the Chiefs start of the Broncos,
you often hear that can response, yeah they got a
good guy, you know, they got a right future, et cetera,
et cetera. But Steve Spagnolo basically had to catch himself
(19:38):
from gushing a little too much when I asked him
about bow Knicks and the difference he saw from bow
in Game one to Game two. He just he just
said he's so impressed with him, and and and that
piggybacks off of the fact that that Pat Mahomes, you know,
at the end of what I when I asked him
about bow Nicks, he said, you know, they've got a guy.
He's gonna be a guy in this league talking about
(20:00):
bo Nicks. So I think collectively, obviously headlined by Steve
Spagnol and headline by Pat Mahomes, all of the Chiefs,
players and coaches that I've asked about the Broncos and
boon Nicks uh are just in unison on saying.
Speaker 6 (20:13):
That the Broncos have their quarterback. He's a great player.
Speaker 8 (20:17):
Pat Mahomes said, he loves his competitiveness, a guy that
just goes out there and can win for you. So
I think collectively my answer would be that all of
them together have just gushed NonStop about Bo.
Speaker 1 (20:27):
Well, I'll talk with Anthony Rodriguez down there in New
Orleans for a Super Week here on KIOI are there
any plans tomorrow for you to alienate Sabrina Carpenter's fan base.
Speaker 6 (20:39):
No, I appreciate talent.
Speaker 8 (20:40):
So I would never do whethere Sabrina Carpenter or Olivia
Rodrigo or Dualipa. Can I just try to just keep
going of artists I think are better than Taylor Swips.
Speaker 6 (20:49):
No, but seriously, I'll do.
Speaker 8 (20:50):
I'll do whatever it takes within reason and good context
and not just to get a sound bite.
Speaker 6 (20:55):
To get a good sound bite.
Speaker 5 (20:57):
So I'll do.
Speaker 8 (20:57):
I'll do whatever it takes as long as I as
long as I've leave in it, just like I did
with that question. So yeah, no, if it calls for it,
I'll do it.
Speaker 2 (21:04):
Well, I'm not serious.
Speaker 1 (21:06):
I just wanted to grant to clip that audio there
so we can red the Swifties up yet again and send.
Speaker 2 (21:11):
A rod double viral down there.
Speaker 1 (21:13):
As this thing is going along, you're on your second
day of coverage out there, what have you noticed from
day one to day two? Is there already shifting narratives
or is there anything that's come out that seems to
be the ball rolling as we're closer to closer this
thing kicking.
Speaker 8 (21:25):
Off, you know, kind of the field going into this
one was people are saying, well, this really is the
most intriguing matchup in the world in terms of what
kind of people wanted. Obviously lions bills, maybe they wanted
the Vikings in here, but the idea between these two
teams was that there really wasn't a whole lot of
Bolton Boar material other than the outside world against the Chiefs.
Speaker 6 (21:46):
I mean.
Speaker 8 (21:46):
Travis Kelsey said last night when he was asked, what
would be a question you would ask the media and
he is His response was essentially, well, why are you
guys leaning into this referee narrative? So it's not between
the two teams, it's more what it seems as though
it's the outside world not wanting the Chiefs to be here.
Speaker 6 (22:04):
I mean, I'll say this.
Speaker 8 (22:05):
Andy Reid, for example, last night, was talking about when
he was asked, when it comes to a three p
or the talk of a dynasty, he doesn't want to
go there. Even Pat Mahomes said the only time that
Andy Reid's ever mentioned three peat is in reference to
a reporter's question, and Reid said, it's all respect that
they really respect the guys on the other side over there.
So I think a lot of it the feel of it, honestly,
(22:27):
especially coming into this and definitely from day one to
day two, they continued of the narrative of that there's
not a lot of Bolton Boar material here, that there's
a respect there. Maybe some manufactured storylines have kind of
crept into this thing, and that's kind of continued into
day two.
Speaker 6 (22:42):
A lot a lot of people are kind of asking
a lot of.
Speaker 8 (22:45):
The players and the coaches, a lot of different stuff,
not as much focus on the game as I would
have expected, different storylines maybe on the dynasty of the
Chiefs overall, but really not specifics of this actual matchup, which,
for you know, for a Super Bowl, you would think
to be a little bit more dive the X and
o's than than I've heard personally.
Speaker 4 (23:03):
Well, obviously, there are two teams playing in the Super Bowl,
and a lot of the conversation has been dominated by
the Chiefs. Obviously they're on the precipice of history. You
got Mahomes Kelsey and like you said, they got the
swift Sees. What are you hearing from the talk down
there about the other team, the Philadelphia Eagles.
Speaker 8 (23:23):
Well, I mean, I gotta tell you that, just the
utmost respect for just this team.
Speaker 6 (23:29):
I'll start first and foremost my one on one I had.
Speaker 8 (23:31):
I had a really awesome chat with with c J
two K Chris Johnson, longtime Titans running back, legendary Titans
running back. And when I was chatting with him, more
so in the direction of what is an elite running
back add to an offense kind of you know, more
catered towards you know, what would the Broncos get if
they were to add some sort of elite runner, whether
the agency or draft or trade. And c J two
(23:52):
K essentially said, I mean, look at the look at
the Eagles, look at the team that they have constructed,
and two years ago you're not at all you were
not all talking about like you are this year because
of the addition of Saquon Barkley. So I think there's
just an utmost respect just in passing them. The comments
that I've heard about this Eagles squad, I mean, top
to bottom, they are a team that's gonna be ready
to go toe to toe to try to stop this
(24:12):
three P with the Chiefs. So so honestly, not a
whole lot of chat about Jalen Hurts. I will say
I've heard nothing but gushing remarks obviously about Jalen Carr
what he's been able to do over there on the
defensive front for this teeth for the squad. But it's
been a lot of Saquon. I will tell you that.
That goes to show that that was easily the biggest
media scrum on the in the podiums last night, I
(24:33):
waited an hour just to get one question in. I
think I told you guys that last night, one question
to get into Saquon, and I still barely got it
as is. And I think I yielded Saquon's name like
a hundred times just to sneak that in there. But
it's it's a lot of respect from the Chiefs to
the Eagles. It's a lot of respect from the media
to the Eagles. So you know, that's that's pretty much
the gist.
Speaker 1 (24:52):
Who is the larger fan base and the larger contingent
down there right now?
Speaker 6 (24:57):
I would say, right now, it's definitely gonna be the Chiefs.
Speaker 8 (24:59):
I've a larger sea of red when the when the
Chiefs came out yesterday on the podium because in the
opening night last night, essentially they had all the podiums ready,
but they brought the entire squad on the big stage
kind of uh, in the in the midfield and when
the and when the Chiefs fan Chiefs came out again.
This is a crowd that very clearly were a lot
of Saints fans to be expected obviously in the Superdome,
(25:22):
because they could hear their cheers when they were asking, Hey,
are any Chiefs fans in the house, Those very same
fans were cheering pretty loudly uh for the Chiefs when
they came out on that podium last night.
Speaker 6 (25:31):
So a lot of red.
Speaker 8 (25:32):
I've also seen a lot of red from the from
the fans outside. I'm going to get a better understanding
of it tomorrow because the fan experience, the NFL fan
experience that they do with the Super Bowl every year,
kicks off tomorrow and so that's gonna be a really
good judge of of of who's who's in town, Who's
who's any rooting for who? So obviously I know I
can chat with you guys about that coming up on
coming up on Thursday, but generally it's been mostly Chiefs
(25:52):
Chiefs fans.
Speaker 5 (25:55):
Well now.
Speaker 4 (26:00):
And you look forward to the game on Sunday, and
I know I've seen seeing Broncos Country that, yeah, we
don't have a dog in a fight. But people who
have selected or drawn the line as far as who
they want to root, are you more for? Okay, I'm
gonna root for the Eagles because I don't want the
Chiefs to win. Or says this is a team that's
within the AFC and the AFC West, you are rooting
(26:23):
for the Chiefs.
Speaker 8 (26:25):
Well, I might be the one person you would ask
that's probably gonna be on the opposite side. I'm not
necessarily rooting for the Chiefs. I'm definitely not doing that.
So Broncos Country can stay out of my mentions right
now before I even go any further.
Speaker 6 (26:36):
But I did catch quite a bit of flak for.
Speaker 8 (26:38):
The understanding that going into this ball game, I am
a person that has always appreciated greatness, at least as
of late. I did it too late with Kobe, I
did it too late with Tom Brady. I'm not doing
it with my favorite player to watch in Pat Mahomes.
So going into this game, I petition for Broncos fans.
This guy's going to be around for the next ten years.
Enjoy the greatness. It's not going anywhere. Yes, do we
(26:59):
prefer that the Yeah, obviously we want to see Saquon
Barkley get a title. I want to see Jalen Hurts
getters redemption from two years ago. But this is a
game where you just got to appreciate greatness. You're gonna
watch Saquon do his thing, You're gonna see him probably
score a few touchdowns. You gotta see Jalen Hurts do
his thing. He's come on as of late. That defense
has been fantastic under Vic Fangil. But at the same time,
whether the Chiefs win this ball game and three Peter
(27:19):
or not, enjoyed the greatness, appreciate what Pat Mahomes brings
to the brings to the NFL, because this dude still
got at least a decade ago. So for me going
into this game, that's where I stand. And a lot
of Broncos fans are on the other side and never
would ever want to have any success for the Chiefs.
Speaker 6 (27:32):
But I'm just saying to enjoy that. That's my stands.
Speaker 2 (27:35):
Well, I agree with you on that, a Rod, I
like that take.
Speaker 3 (27:37):
But my favorite video you've posted from down there at
Super Week is you hanging out with SpongeBob and Patrick,
can we get you to do your SpongeBob laugh impression again?
Speaker 6 (27:49):
Absolutely?
Speaker 8 (27:49):
And I'll tell you going and going into that I
have had that stupid impression in my back pocket for
the longest time.
Speaker 5 (27:55):
So the fact that.
Speaker 8 (27:56):
I saw the fact that I saw SpongeBob and Patrick,
who have just been in a phenomenal job as announced
as I will say, for the Nickelodeon.
Speaker 6 (28:03):
Side broadcast, which are just a hoot.
Speaker 8 (28:05):
I had to wait half an hour because they had
jutt out right when I was walking up to them to.
Speaker 6 (28:09):
Do this little mini interview and have some fun with it.
Speaker 8 (28:11):
They walked into the backstage and I was told why
they need a water break, got to come back in
thirty minutes.
Speaker 6 (28:16):
So of course I did exactly that, and I stood.
Speaker 8 (28:18):
Between the two of them and did my best impression
to which I'm gonna do right now with all these
people standing around me here at the media party, and
that impression sounded like this. I am ready I'm not
even I'm trying not even look around.
Speaker 6 (28:33):
I don't even know.
Speaker 5 (28:34):
About how have you around you right now? How are
they looking at you?
Speaker 8 (28:38):
I'm trying to maintain tunnel vision, but I am looking around.
Speaker 6 (28:41):
I think I think it's loud enough here.
Speaker 8 (28:42):
I didn't distract too many people to my ridiculousness, but
that's hard to do here at this media party because
this place is off the chain.
Speaker 6 (28:51):
I gotta tell you this.
Speaker 8 (28:52):
Media party I'm at right now. It's at Marty Grau World.
It is right next to the convention center. I before
I came on with you guys, I had to physically
pick up my job from the floor because there are
thirty restaurants participating in this thing, five stages.
Speaker 6 (29:08):
It is literally its own.
Speaker 8 (29:09):
Little convention center here at Martin Garl World. For those
that haven't been here.
Speaker 2 (29:14):
Yeah, and any runs down there on a diet and
uh and not drinking.
Speaker 4 (29:18):
Wow, I did.
Speaker 8 (29:19):
I will say, hold on, hold on, back up, back
back up the truck because the little dishes of gumbo
were so small that I said, you know what, I'm
gonna dabble.
Speaker 6 (29:30):
So did I have one? Nope? Did I have two?
Speaker 5 (29:33):
Uh?
Speaker 6 (29:33):
Huh?
Speaker 8 (29:34):
I had three little gumbo dishes and also the best
cheese steak I've ever had in my entire life.
Speaker 6 (29:39):
So you're you're welcome.
Speaker 8 (29:40):
I indulged just a little, and that's before my indulgement
breakfast tomorrow at Molly's Rise and Shine, which will be
my one sheet dish of the of the.
Speaker 2 (29:47):
Trim in New Orleans.
Speaker 8 (29:48):
The food breaks you, It broke me, I succum.
Speaker 1 (29:53):
You had some good interviews with with with my good
friend report, my good friend Ryan Leaf out there. Tell use,
guys said, Hi, have you see him? What's the what
is the craziest thing you've seen somebody hawking out there?
Speaker 6 (30:03):
Though?
Speaker 1 (30:03):
Because I think for me, when I covered the Super Bowl,
I think Jerry Rice hawket Tequila was kind of weird.
Speaker 2 (30:07):
What's what's the.
Speaker 1 (30:08):
Weirdest or craziest thing you've seen somebody out there promoting? Oh?
Speaker 8 (30:12):
I mean, I'm not really sure what affiliate he was with,
but I'm sure you guys have caught wind of what
our good buddy Jamis Winston has been doing. And let
me tell you last night, I'm on the ponium with
Zack Bond, the linebacker of the Eagles. I'm trying to
chat with him about, you know, his time with Sean Payton,
because Sean traded out for and I'm drafted him with
New Orleans and maybe the potential he could be a Bronko.
He didn't want to play into that, but as I'm
(30:33):
chatting with Zach Bond, little though I know, I look
over my left shoulder and none other than Jamis Winston
is talking to his good old buddy and former teammate,
Zach Bond, who they obviously play together.
Speaker 6 (30:42):
With the Saints.
Speaker 8 (30:42):
And I guess Jamis's thing last night. You want to
talk about what they're hawking, what they're throwing around, Jamis
was trying to get multiple players and coaches.
Speaker 6 (30:49):
To my knowledge, I only saw it was Zach. He's
trying to get.
Speaker 8 (30:51):
Multiple players and coaches to literally eat a W just
like Jamis did. So, Jamis got Zach to do his
famous eat the wth and then if you do so,
Jamis then threw Zach Bond a literal W shaped cookie
for him to eat. So if that doesn't tell you
the craziest thing I saw, that would just about sum
(31:13):
it up so far.
Speaker 6 (31:14):
Jamis being Jamis. Am I right, Well there you go.
Speaker 2 (31:17):
Well, Hey, Rob, we appreciate it, kn't we?
Speaker 1 (31:19):
Super Week rals Anthey Adriguez presented by Chevron Colorado, all
the coverage, Sean ka't wait, all the social media channels,
you guys can see all those videos, all those great clips,
and hey, Rod, SpongeBob or you know, going viral for
upsetting the Swifties.
Speaker 2 (31:32):
Hey the guys, Oh my goodness, I love it. We
come back.
Speaker 1 (31:38):
Let's get to our favorite super Bowl storylines. This week,
we get some new stuff from Roger Goodell. I want
to talk about some common misconceptions. Nick's got some Kirk
Cousins sound By we want to get into as well.
Broncos Country Night back after this
