Speaker 1 (00:00):
Walk up to it. Broncos Country tonight.

Speaker 2 (00:01):
A little bit of sports news today, Dak Prescott seems
to think the Cowboys.

Speaker 1 (00:06):
Are close to a super Bowl. What world is he living? Then?
I don't know. You took him as your dark horse
last I did.

Speaker 2 (00:11):
It's the first time somebody's been put through the concussion
protocol in the offseason. I do think I think they're
in better shape than people think. I think Dallas in
better shape than people think. The problem is the division.
You've got one, you know, You've got one whipping boy
that's that's easy to beat, you know, and then New
York Giants, and then you've got a couple of tough

(00:31):
teams in Washington and obviously Philadelphia's so it's not an
easy division. But they get the right schedule lined up.
With all that, it could be Dallas could be a team.
They're gonna have to. They need another running back, they
need some help on defense. But there I don't think
they're as far away as people think. And I like,
everybody's laughing at the Brian shot, and I'm or higher.

Speaker 1 (00:51):
I'm not. I think he's gonna.

Speaker 2 (00:54):
Be better than I think Dallas is gonna be better
than people think. I think he's gonna be a better
head go coach, and people think, and we'll see how
that shakes out. One of the things that came out today,
it was interesting. And they're expected to part ways, so
this is really sort of a moot point. But the
New York Jets apparently had several stipulations for Aaron Rodgers
if they were going to move forward together in twenty

(01:15):
twenty five. And while it doesn't matter much now considering
you know, both sides already agreed to part ways, but
new head coach Aaron Glenn and general manager Darren Mougie
were trying to rein in the outspoken quarterback. According to
athletic Stana Rassini, there were two major requirements the Jets
had for Rogers. One of them simple enough. He had

(01:36):
to attend all mandatory practices. And while that feels like
a given, Rogers actually missed a pair of Mini caamp
practices last summer while he was on vacation in Egypt.

Speaker 1 (01:44):
Hey you got to see the pyramids when he gets
your chance?

Speaker 2 (01:47):
Yeah, I guess. And you couldn't schedule that literally any
other time at mini camp. Apparently, old Jets leadership didn't
seem to mind that trip so much.

Speaker 1 (01:56):
New Jets leadership is not having that.

Speaker 2 (01:59):
The big thing, though, is Rogers would no longer be
allowed to make his outside media appearances during the season,
which included his regular paid spot on the Pat McAfee show. Rogers,
for better or worse it has been a regular on
that show for years. He reportedly makes over a million
dollars annually for doing so, and while he talks about

(02:19):
football a bit, he made headlines on the show for
sharing conspiracy theories and medical nonsense. Even once implied that
late night TV show hosts Jimmy Kimmel, a fellow Disney employee,
would be exposed as an acquaintance of convicted child sex
trafficker Jeffrey Epstein, which the network had to walk back
hard after Kimmel threatened to sue. Despite the chaos he's

(02:43):
frequently brought though, Rogers remained a regular guest of mcafeees
on the network, and at least during the season. It
seems the New Jets ownership viewed his appearances on the
show as a distraction, so they wanted to put a
stop to it. And I'm sure that there's certainly more
that went into that split. Those are the two reported
new rules that were sure to have uh played a part.
If he wants to continue his playing career, won't be

(03:03):
with the Jets, so that to find a team that's
still okay with his media appearances and vacations as well
as the rest of the nonsense he brings to the table.
I don't does Aaron Rodgers even have a home in
the NFL next year, because I struggle to think where
that would be.

Speaker 3 (03:17):
I think, you know, maybe the Raiders, even though they're
saying that Sam Darnold is, they do not think so.

Speaker 1 (03:23):
I don't.

Speaker 2 (03:24):
I don't think. I don't think Pete Carroll or Chip
Kelly are doing that.

Speaker 3 (03:27):
I think maybe he wouldn't have to move far and
he could go to the Giants.

Speaker 1 (03:30):
That's the one.

Speaker 2 (03:31):
That's the one spot I was thinking. I was like,
maybe they just he just stays in town and the
Giants work something out.

Speaker 3 (03:37):
I just don't get the whole stipulation on the Pat
McAfee show appearances, Like, what's your take on that? Because I,
I mean, obviously as a neutral fan and I'm one
of the few people that actually still likes Aaron Rodgers,
I enjoyed those thoroughly, and I think what's the saying
all press is good press, Like, well, they were always
in the limelight because he was always on that show,

(04:00):
and he showed up regardless of how bad the season
was going for the Jets, and that kind of made
me respect him even more. But on the other hand,
I can see, you know, he blatantly came out on
the show many times and said how bad the team
was playing, and I think that could create a rift
in the locker room. But it's also the day and
age where all these players have their own podcasts. So
what's the difference between Micah Parsons going on his own

(04:23):
podcast and ripping the Cowboys or you know, Aaron Rodgers
going on the Pat mcavie show and ripping the Jets.

Speaker 2 (04:29):
Besides the audience, that's fair the end of the day,
Michael parsons podcast is listened to by you know, thousands
of people, and Pat McK of his show is watched
by millions, and it creates it creates entirely different. I
think they like, to be honest with you, they just forced.

Speaker 3 (04:47):
Him out, you know, they just gave him a couple
of stipulations that he knows.

Speaker 2 (04:50):
He wouldn't agree to him enough stuff that they knew
he wouldn't agree to and moved on. Like there's just
like the guys that the old college coaches that used
to have the conditioning workout, right, the new coaches are
trying to force some players out and they just keep
putting people through the conditioning workout until you got tired
of it and just gave up. And we're like, all right,
I'm transferred, Like I'm done with this. This is stupid.
This dude's trying to move on for me. And so
that's you know, that's really I think what it is here.

(05:14):
You had a negative culture in that locker room, and
the source of that was Aaron Rodgers. Aaron brought all
those guys in. Aaron ran the show. Aaron ran the
show on offense. Aaron was the one saying, don't bring
outside distraction, saying while he was on TV every week,
Aaron was the one saying it has to be all
about football. He had a Netflix crew followed him around.
You know, at the end of the day, if you're

(05:34):
trying to rebuild something and you're you're trying to bring
in a new culture, you got to you gotta scrub
the place clean.

Speaker 3 (05:40):
Yeah, you know, I think, honestly, this is a great move.
This is a great first move from Aaron Clinton and
Moochie because they are going to completely revamp that culture.
Who knows, maybe they'll get a Woody Johnson out of
their hair, maybe he'll be another ambassador to some country.
But I think this is a great move from them,
showing them like, hey, this is a new era for
the New York chants.

Speaker 2 (06:01):
Yeah, And I think that's what you have to do.
And so I'm not opposed. I'm not opposed to it.
I would have done the same thing, you know. I
would have found a way to squeeze him out and
and you know, and then gone from there, and and
then leaked a few of the conditions you know, later on,
just to you know, just to make it seem reasonable.

Speaker 1 (06:18):
While at the end of the day, I always knew
that I was moving on from.

Speaker 2 (06:20):
The guy, and like I said, he may stick around town.
The one team that really made any sense at all was,
uh was the Giant. I mean, maybe you find a
way in Cleveland.

Speaker 1 (06:34):
Does he want to go to Cleveland? Why not just retire?

Speaker 2 (06:36):
Well, I mean, you know, maybe you sort of know
the offense you worked at La Floor's offense and Stefancy
uses the same terminology. You've worked in that offense before.
You haven't worked in Dables offense. So I'm just, you know,
like I trying to figure out what exactly you're gonna
do in terms of finding, you know, finding a place
to go work.

Speaker 3 (06:57):
I think the Giants makes the most sense because, like,
what do you have to lose if you're the Giants,
draft a young guy.

Speaker 2 (07:04):
The bridge quarterback and keep Mylak neighbors happy and go
from there, right give them?

Speaker 1 (07:08):
That's I mean that to me, that makes the most sense.

Speaker 2 (07:12):
Although if it doesn't work, watching the Lak neighbors and
near Rodgers feud is going to be pinematic guard.

Speaker 3 (07:17):
Yes, yes, And you know what about the Brett Favre
path that he's already on. Could he go to Minnesota
and be the bridge guy? No, KOs he would put
up with them.

Speaker 1 (07:27):
No, they're not gonna put up with that.

Speaker 2 (07:28):
And they've already got JJ McCarthy unless he gets injured
between now and then, that's that's the plan. If they
were going to do any of that, they just bring
Sam Darnold back, you know. So I don't understand I
don't understand that setup. I don't understand that scenario.

Speaker 1 (07:46):
You know, I get it.

Speaker 2 (07:46):
Everybody wants the symmetry with the far thing, but in reality,
it just doesn't make a whole lot of sense. Other
news on the day, Kellen Moore hired as the new
head coach the New Orleans Saints, the team making it official. Moore,
who is thirty six, takes over a Saints team that
finished five and twelve last season and in the last

(08:07):
place in the NFC South and coached Dennis Allen was
fired after nine games and Darren Rizzy went three and five.
On the interim basis, it was Dennis Allen went two
and seven. They're resy with three and five. Does this
mean Darren Rizzy is on his way to Denver?

Speaker 1 (08:22):
Probably?

Speaker 2 (08:22):
Yeah, you know that that's.

Speaker 1 (08:27):
Likely.

Speaker 2 (08:28):
It's interesting that the Broncos have been unable to fill
any of the coaching vacancies, you know, for people that
were and I'm using air quotes here in the studio
promoted to other jobs.

Speaker 1 (08:40):
You know.

Speaker 2 (08:40):
It's it's always funny, how, you know, somebody reports something
and then there's pushback against it, and then you kind of,
you know, you kind of sort of see as enough
time plays out, you sort of see that that person
knew what they were talking about from the get go.
The Saints, with the last NFL team the head coaching
vacancy had pretty wide net. They obviously spoke with Rizzy
and Kellen Moore, Aaron Glenn and Joe Brady, Anthony Weaver.

(09:03):
Mike McCarthy was definitely a candidate, but he pulled himself
out of the running. He'll re enter the coaching market
in twenty twenty six. Pulled himself out of the after
he realized it was down to him and Kellen Moore,
and he kind of gave him a ultimatum they had
to wait till after the Super Bowl for Kellen Moore.
He was not waiting to try to put together a
staff that long and was like, look, I'm not waiting.
Either I'm the guy or I'm not the guy. And
if I'm not the guy, then let me know and

(09:24):
I'll bow it and you go get Kellen Moore.

Speaker 3 (09:25):
Are there details out on the Kellen Moore contract yet?

Speaker 2 (09:28):
Not yet, but I will tell you that it's expected
to be a six year deal, okay, and his defensive
coordinator will be Brandon Staley, who was the head coach
of the Chargers when Kellen Moore was his offensive coordinator
for a season after he fired Joe lob Bardi.

Speaker 1 (09:45):
Who's our offensive coordinator?

Speaker 3 (09:47):
And for how bad Brandon Staley was as a head coach,
he's a hell of a defensive coordinator.

Speaker 1 (09:51):
Yeah, he's all right.

Speaker 2 (09:52):
He's he's to get the Vic Fangio philosophy. He's one
of X's disciples. He was here in Denver as an
outside linebackers coach before he was a defensive coordinator for
the Rams. So there's obviously that connection there that you know,
former Bronco guy goes to the Saints instead of the
other way around as.

Speaker 1 (10:05):
It has been over the last couple of years.

Speaker 2 (10:07):
But that's you know, the Saints are fifty one dollars
over the cap, and I think it's actually worse than that.
I think it's fifty four, But fifty one is the
number I'm looking at right now, and it's going to
take a monumental effort to get them cap compliant. Uh,
even if they move on from Derek Carr with a

(10:29):
post June one designation. And by the way, because people
seem to they can, they can do post June one
I'm like five guys. Well, teams only get to do
two of those per year, So you can do a
post June one and get rid of Derek Carr and
that gets you halfway home. But then you have to
restructure or move on from Eric McCoy and Camp Jordan. Uh,
you gotta you gotta wait till affort June first to

(10:50):
either trade or cut Taysom Hill. And that's still putting you.
You're still about eight million away from clear just cap compliant,
not even be able to sign your draft class.

Speaker 1 (11:04):
That's what I just say. I sign your rookies. Yeah,
there's you know you draft to get cheaper. Well, they
can't even afford to do that.

Speaker 2 (11:10):
And this is the byproduct of not having the flexibility
to be You know, when you use voidable years on
those contracts, it is the worst.

Speaker 1 (11:18):
Thing you can do.

Speaker 2 (11:19):
Uh. It really takes away from your flexibility and be
able to restructure or move things around.

Speaker 1 (11:25):
It's it's one of those things.

Speaker 2 (11:26):
Using a voidable years thing on a single contract, it's
not going to hurt you, but when you start doing
it on a multiple contracts, it will hurt you long term,
especially if you get in a jam from you know,
having to pay a quarterback. If you're paying a quarterback
and you've got multiple voidable years contracts out there, you
are probably in rough shape.

Speaker 1 (11:45):
And eventually the bill will come do and we see
what we saw what happened.

Speaker 2 (11:47):
You know, after Sean Payton left the Saints in this mess,
they tried to kick it down the road a little
bit further and then you know, and now they're having
to retool the thing. You got to pay six years
to a head coach because nobody take the job.

Speaker 3 (11:58):
See this is why I was kind of confused as
to why Kellen Moore would even take this job. I mean,
you just came off the Super Bowl. Stay another year
in Philly. Another job's going to open up with a
much better cap situation next year. But Dave and Ryan
made some really good points on KOA Sports earlier today.
And if the contract is six years, I think that
gives you the time to revamp your culture kind of

(12:21):
like we were talking about with the New York Jets.
Maybe he's going to have enough of a window to
try and get them back on track and get his
guys in there compared to what they've been doing with
you know, hiring a Sean Payton guy right after he leaves,
and Dennis Allen and not really revamping that culture as
it needed.

Speaker 2 (12:37):
Yeah, you needed to clean house a little bit, but
they didn't, though they kept Picky Loomis, who's you know,
is the GM that signed off all these avoidable cap
avoidable year you know deals, and the Saints were the
team that pioneered that practice. And now every team in
the league does dabbles their toe in that in that
because it's a quick fix. If you've got a bunch
of dead cap money, it's a quick fix to kick
money down the road.

Speaker 1 (12:57):
But the Broncos are a unique situation. We have the
well theest owners in.

Speaker 2 (13:00):
The league, and we should be using upfront cash. We
should be using cash to circumit the cap instead of trying.

Speaker 1 (13:07):
To do voidable years.

Speaker 3 (13:09):
So the way that Sean Payton kind of ran the
Jets and or the Jets Saints the Saints into the
ground after he left, you're not worried about that with
the Broncos because of that ownership.

Speaker 2 (13:20):
No, I'm very much worried about it because they've started
to dip their toe in the voidable cap and then
the voidable years thing, and when it comes to, you know,
when you get a couple of years when you got
to pay bo. I am a little worried about that,
but I'm hoping that George Peyton and them are smart
enough to use targeted situations where they you can use
that once or twice and then let that go and
then get back to using front end bonuses and cash
to accelerate the cap year over year instead of trying

(13:43):
to do the avoidable years and locking yourself into something.
I mean, you see the mess. You know he air
Quotes retired then came back in one year. You see
the mess he left. He knew what was coming and
got out from utter it.

Speaker 3 (13:53):
Here's my question though, if he brings if he ends
up leaving the Broncos in the same situation, but he
brings a Super Bowl to Denver, is it worth it.

Speaker 1 (14:03):
If you leave it?

Speaker 3 (14:04):
I mean, as Saints fans, I think Saint I mean,
I bet they wouldn't trade that Super Bowl win for anything.

Speaker 2 (14:09):
Well, and probably not, but they were such a moribund
franchise before that.

Speaker 1 (14:15):
The Broncos were not, you know, a terrible franchise.

Speaker 2 (14:17):
I mean, yeah, they had a stretch of mediocrity here
over the last decade post you know, super Bowl fifty.
But I don't think you're trading a super Bowl for
fifteen years of irrelevance, you know, Like I just don't.
And that's you know, I mean the Saint to be honestly,
the Saints over that fifteen year span, I mean they
didn't even make.

Speaker 1 (14:35):
The playoffs six of those years, you know they were.

Speaker 2 (14:41):
They were a playoff one and done or not make
the playoffs what nine of fourteen years something like that.
So you know, I mean there are there's something to
be said for doing whatever it takes to get a
super Bowl, But you want to find something that's sustainable
to keep you going. And whether that's getting the quarterback
all La Kansas City, whether that he's you know, building

(15:02):
rosters and giving yourself the flexibility year over year because
you're so loaded with talent. Teams like Baltimore, Buffalo, Philadelphia
is a great example of that. You know, that's the
real way that you want to do it if you can.
And so yeah, I would suggest modeling yourself after Howie

(15:22):
Roseman instead of modeling yourself after Mickey Loomis.

Speaker 1 (15:25):
When all said and.

Speaker 3 (15:25):
Done, speaking of the Eagles, where do you we had
this debate on KOI Sports yesterday and it was somewhat ridiculous,
but Orlando Franklin was very convicted in his opinion. He
said fifteen quarterbacks were better than Jalen Hurts in the NFL.
Where do you rank Jalen Hurts after this Super Bowl win?
Because I have him top ten? I mean top ten

(15:51):
by what? Top ten by? He had a top ten season? No,
what's the goal of any quarterback in the NFL is
to win the Super Bowl? Well, he's been in the
Super Bowl two of the past what three or four years?

Speaker 1 (16:02):
Yeah, I've been.

Speaker 2 (16:03):
I mean again, I'm wanting specificity on what you're asking. Specifically,
are you asking did he have a top ta Like
if you're putting all the quarterbacks in a pool and
you're getting ready to start a team, and we took
every player in the NFL and throw him at a pool,
how many would I take before I took Jalen Hurts?

Speaker 3 (16:18):
Yeah, and I think there's eight or nine maybe, because
just because he's such a unique case at quarterback, he
can do whatever you ask of him.

Speaker 1 (16:26):
He can make the throws when he needs to.

Speaker 3 (16:28):
We saw that in the last two games in the
playoffs and his legs are a true weapon. What do
you have eleven carries for seventy two yards in the
Super Bowl?

Speaker 1 (16:36):
Yeah? But how much of they had Saquon Barkley too?
You know?

Speaker 2 (16:38):
I mean how much of? Because who was he before
Saquon got there?

Speaker 3 (16:42):
Wow?

Speaker 1 (16:42):
He went to a super Bowl before Saquon? He did?
And that's and to be fair, that'd be the counter
argument there. Broncos Country Tonight. Yeack after this, welcome back
to it.

Speaker 2 (16:52):
Broncos Country Tonight, Late night post. See you Buff's edition five, six, six,
nine year old text line You guys want to get
involved in conversation. Still a little bit more NFL news
and notes to get to. I wanted to start off with, Man,
it has been all Eagles all week and Sunday night.

(17:12):
Super Bowl win was very good for the Eagles. It's
also good for the company that sales officially licensed NFL gear.
Story out of the Sports Business Journal says that Fanatics
said that the sale of Eagles related merchandise following the
win in Super Bowl fifty nine set a pair of records.

(17:35):
Number one, it was the new sales mark within twenty
four hours after winning the Super Bowl and the Eagles
have done better than any team in sports within twenty
four hours of winning its championship. The prior record was
held by the Dodgers following the twenty twenty four World
Series win over the Yankees. The Eagles hold the overall
record for Super Bowl champion sales from their first win

(17:56):
early in twenty eighteen, so perfant Attics, they're on haste
to beat that mark. Since the confetti flu Fanatics's sole
championship merchandise in every American state and more than sixty countries,
so there's also plenty of pre maide champions gear for
the Chiefs, which will be donated to charity at some
point in the future. Eagles quote Schnick, Sirianni might find

(18:17):
a way to troll the Chiefs with it, as he's
done several of those.

Speaker 1 (18:20):
Things before coaching hire. I wanted to get to that.

Speaker 2 (18:26):
Some people were surprised by Bobby Slowick, the offensive coordinator
of the Houston Texans who was in demand last year,
was fired after this season after a stroud regressed in
his second season. Team finished nineteenth in points twenty second
yards after being thirteenth and twelfth respectively in those same categories.

Speaker 1 (18:48):
Previous year.

Speaker 2 (18:51):
Slowick was hired in Kyle Shanahan's first season in San Francisco,
serving as a defensive quality control coach before moving over
and becoming an offensive sistant nineteen, the team's passing game
cordinator in twenty twenty two, and then he headed to Houston,
obviously with Debrico Ryans in twenty twenty three. Slowik is
getting a new start in Miami. Tom Pellisero of NFL

(19:12):
Media reports that Bobby Sloyk has taken a job as
the Dolphins senior passing game coordinator.

Speaker 1 (19:18):
Reunites with Mike.

Speaker 2 (19:18):
McDaniel, who Sloyk worked with in San Francisco. Obviously, Slowik,
who is thirty seven, he interviewed for several head coaching
jobs openings a year ago after c J. Stroud won
Offensive Rookie of the Year, but obviously that year two
drop off and the lack of really any change along
that offense teams kind of teed off on the Texans.

(19:40):
This year in the offense didn't look the same. The
Raiders have announced their full coaching staff and both of
Pete Carroll's sons, Brennan Carroll, who will be the run
game court in offensive line coach and Nate Carroll who'll
be the assistant quarterbacks coach. Both those guys going to
be on that staff. Chip Kelly obviously the offensive coordinator,

(20:02):
Chris Beatty as the wide receivers coach, Bob McNeill as
a senior offensive assistant, Sean Binks is an offensive assistant,
Andy Dickerson as an assistant offensive line coach, Kyle Fuller
offensive quality control, Greg Olsen to be the quarterbacks coach,
Joe Philben senior offensive assistant, Luke Steckel tight ends, and

(20:23):
Dylan McCullough running backs. On the defensive side of the ball,
they retained Patrick Gram as the defensive coordinator, John Glenn
as linebackers coach, Kenny on Jackson assistant D line, Rob
Leonard run game and D line to McKenzie defensive assistant linebackers,
Bey Rassool his defensive quality control. Marcus Robertson is defensive backs,

(20:44):
RiPP Row as a defensive assistant, and then Joe Woods,
the former Broncos defensive coordinator, is past game cordator defensive backs.
Tom McMahon returns as the special teams coordinator. Kate Rannings
quality control for the special teams and Darius Swinton the
second as a special teams assistant. The New York Jets

(21:04):
announced that Rick Spielman will be a new senior football
advisor for them. Team issued press release made it official today.
Former Vikings and Dolphins general manager returns to direct employment.
Spielman has spent time since leaving the Vikings in early
twenty two with CBS. He also served as a consultant
last year to Commander's owner Josh Harris in connection with

(21:25):
the hiring of general manager Adam Peters and coach Dean Quinn.
Spielman worked with former Jets general manager Mike tannenbaumd or
on the search process that resulted in the Jets hiring
general manager Darren Mugi and head coach Aaron Glenn. Some
in league circles have raised eyebrows over the appearance of
a quid pro quo. It's unknown, however, whether Mujie's hire

(21:48):
came with the attached string of giving Spielman a job,
and even if it did, welcome to reality. It's also
possible that owner Woody Johnson became sufficiently impressed with Spielman
during the process to want him involved with the team
moving forward. Spielman built a consistent contender in Minnesota working
with multiple head coaches regardless he goes from contractor to
employee with the Jets, and the Jets theoretically should be

(22:11):
better off for it. Seahawks head coach Mike McDonald said
he believes the team can win a Super Bowl with
quarterback Gino Smith, and the team's new offensive coordinator has
positive feelings about what he brings to the table. Clinton Kubiak,
son of Gary, met with the media Tuesday for the
first time since being hired by the Seahawks, and Smith's
name came up quite a few times during the session.

(22:33):
Colt Smith a guy I want to coach because of
his toughness in the resiliency that has helped him persevere
through rough patches in his career as well as in games.
Smith has seven fourth quarter comebacks over the last two seasons,
and Kubiak said that fires him up.

Speaker 1 (22:47):
Quote.

Speaker 2 (22:47):
Geno's a very aggressive player, had a lot of production. Obviously,
He's been doing it for a long time, overcome a
lot in his career. I have a lot of respect
for Gino. It's a huge draw to come here and
get to coach him. Seahawks didn't get much out of
the run game in twenty twenty five with Ryan Grubb
and marrying improvement in that area for a strong year
for Smith. Looks like it will be the best path
to success in Seattle. Bill's hired Chris Table or a

(23:10):
special teams coordinator. I don't think anybody really cares too
much about that one. And then Josh Sweat Eagles defensive
and Josh Sweat had one of the all time best
defensive performances at a Super Bowl, but he did not
become the eleventh defensive player, including co MVPs Harvey Martin

(23:32):
and Randy White, who were Super Bowl twelve to win
the MVP award, though quarterback Jalen Hurts won that thirty
fourth time in fifty nine Super Bowls that a quarterback's
been named the MVP. The fan vote had Sweat third
behind Cooper Dejen and Jalen Hurts. The NFL does not

(23:54):
announce the places of other finishers, so it's unknown whether
or not Swist Sweat finished second behind Jalen Hurts, but
Sweat to Jeff McClain of the Philadelphia Inquirers that I
should have had it. I could have had it. It's
all good. Though Sweat had six tackles two and a
half sacks. Other pressures that led to an interception allowed
other defenders to get sacks of Patrick Mahomes, Chiefs quarterback,

(24:14):
was sacked a career high six times. Sweat took complete
advantage of Joe Toney, who made the All Pro team
that left guard, but moved a left tackle in week
fifteen to stabilize the position, and for the first time
Tony looked like what he is, Sweat saying he don't
play tackle. He's a guard. That's all it was. But
we don't underestimate anybody. Defensive coordinator Vic Fangio, former Broncos
head coach, called Sweat's performance awesome. It's too bad didn't

(24:37):
win in the MVP, but sweated and sweated. He will
get paid in free agency, either by the Philadelphia Eagles
or some other team, and most likely to be some
other team because the Eagles, I don't think have the
available cap space to be able to pull that off.

(24:58):
Jaguars are still interviewing for general manager while Ian Cunningham's
leader in the clubhouse. The team announced that has interviewed
Josh Williams for the role. Williams worked for the Niners
for over a decade, just completed his first year as
director of Scouting and football Operations. Is a National scout
in twenty twenty two to twenty three in an Area
scout previous five seasons. San Francisco describes his current role

(25:20):
as directing pro and collegiate scouting efforts, supporting player development,
and assisting in contract negotiations. First joined the club as
an assistant in the scouting department, played as college ball
as Columbia as a wide receiver. Another staff that's announcing
its completion is the Dallas Cowboys, And maybe I'm the

(25:40):
only one who thinks that this Dallas hire isn't going
to be as bad as everybody seems to think it is.
Brian Schottenheimer, of course, the new head coach, replacing Mike McCarthy.
They kept their strength and conditioning crew. Tight ends coach
Luda Wells stayed put as well on a multi year deal.
Offensive coordinator Clayton Adams, who was the offensive line coach

(26:02):
in Arizona. On the offensive line, Connor Riley wide receivers,
Junior Adams assisant wide receivers, Ta Kwan Underwood. Many people
may remember that name running back Derek Foster. Steve Shimko
got the quarterbacks job, good for him, and Ken Dorsey
signs on as an offensive assistant on the defensive side

(26:23):
of the bal Matt Eberflus, previously as head coach of
the Chicago Bears, will take over the defense. Aaron White
Cotton on the line, Brian Bing the assistant defensive line.
Dave Borgonzi will be a linebackers coach Andre Curtis, the
defensive pass game coordinator, David Overstreet corners and JJ Clark
as the defensive assistant. Special teams coordinator Nick Sorenson previously

(26:43):
the forty nine Ers, and the assistant special teams coordinator
Carlos Polk. The strength and conditioning staff stays together Harold Nash,
Kendall Smith, and Cedric Smith and that staff. I think
Dallas is going to be better than people think. Maybe
I'm maybe I'm just way off on that one. But
a lot of the times, these these hires that get
laughed at by media and fans because they aren't as

(27:05):
splashy wind up being the better hires. Go back and
look at Dan Campbell, for instance, with Detroit, or Nick
Sirianni and Philadelphia Both those hires were punching bags for
media and fans across social media. And the reality is
both those hires were easily the best of the cycles
that they were in.

Speaker 1 (27:27):
So I you know, I I.

Speaker 2 (27:30):
Think Brian Schottenneimer has a better skill set as a
head coach than an offensive coordinator. I love some of
the guys that he's brought in, bringing in a guy
who's better head coach and ebra Flus to run the defense.
Uh and at Clayton Adams, who I think is a
great hire as an offensive coordinator and former old line guy.
There's a commitment to making sure that that offensive line works.

(27:51):
You've already got some good players. You just need some
help on the defensive side of the ball in terms
of in terms of players, and you know, Matti ebra
Flus can make a defense go. I mean, the Bears
problems weren't really on defense. They were on offenses, you know,
the last couple of years when he was there. And
so we'll see see how that works out, and you know,
and if they get that done or not. The Seahawks

(28:14):
are working through whether Tyler Lockett is going to be
on the team in twenty twenty five. Obviously, the Kubiak
introductory pressor today. We already talked about, but it remains
to be seen if Lockett will be part of that group.
Lockett signed a revised two year deal with the Sucks
last year to drop his cap number in twenty twenty four,
but he's got a thirty point eight nine to five
million dollar cap hit for the twenty twenty five season,

(28:35):
and head coach Mike McDonald was asked today if he
anticipates having Lockett on the team. McDonald deflected, saying, I
think we're working through that right now. Those decisions we'll
have when the time comes the next month or two.
Cutting Lockett would result in seventeen million in cap space,
while the rest of his hit would be dead money.
Lockett had forty nine catches for six hundred yards two
touchdowns this past season. Speaking of the Eagles, Eagles assistant

(28:58):
Kevin Bittuloh as a candidate for both the the Saints
OC and the Eagles OC. Now that Kellen Moore is
officially listed as the Saints head coach, the process of
filling out his staff begins. Already know who's considering on
the defensive side, but on the offensive side of the ball,
Kevin Bittulo is going to get strong consideration for both
the Eagles and Saints offensive coordinator jobs. The Eagles have
for replaced more More worked well with Petula last season.

(29:20):
Patula would call plays for the Eagles. More has said
he would call plays for the Saints, so theoretically the
Eagles would be a better job. Patullo spent the last
four seasons in Philly, his first two seasons as the
past game coordinator, in the past two as the associate
head coach and past game coordinator. Previously with the Chiefs, Bills, Titans, Jets,
and Colts, Patulo spent five seasons in the college ranks

(29:42):
as an senior offensive analyst at Texas A and M
At twenty seventeen and former Philly defensive coordinator Matt Patricia
interviewed to become Ohio State's defensive coordinator. Matt Zenitz so
CBS Sports reports Patricia met with Ryan Day and others
than the program.

Speaker 1 (30:00):
On Monday.

Speaker 2 (30:01):
The National Champions promoted assistants Brian Hartline and Keenan Bailey
did co offensive coordinators after the departure of Chip Kelly
for the Raiders. The Buckeyes still need to replace defensive
corner Jim Knowles, who left for Penn State shortly after
the National Championship Game. Patricia last coached in twenty twenty
three with the Eagles, serving as senior defensive assistant, after

(30:21):
two years with the Patriots as a senior football advisor
and senior football Advisor offensive line coach. He was the
head coach of the Detroit Lions from twenty eighteen to
twenty twenty. He went thirteen twenty nine and one in
two and a half seasons, after spending fourteen seasons as
an assistant to Bill Belichick. Also worked at Syracuse early
in his career. DeAndre Hopkins did not play his best

(30:47):
game in the Super Bowl, not playing his best game
on social media either. Twelve NFL season, She's receiver DeAndre
Hopkins made it to his first Super Bowl. The acknowledge
it didn't play his best game though. On third and
eleven late in the first half, Mahomes rolled right, bought time,
put an accurate throw right to Hopkins. We had plenty
of green grass in front of him, but he made

(31:08):
an awkward adjustment dropped the ball, to the dismay of
teammate Chris Jones. I don't know if you guys have
seen that facial expression, but you should if you've got
that out there the videos out there Since the game,
Hopkins tweeted, don't know what you heard, but I'm not
done yet, then later deleted it. A retirement talk came
from a fake Adam Schefter account which asserts that the

(31:30):
Chiefs head coach Andy Reid told reporters that Hopkins informed
the team of his intent to retire. The account was
at Adam sc e one fer to look like Schefter.
The Chiefs traded for Hopkins during the season, sent a
conditional fifth round pick to the Titans. Hopkins will be

(31:52):
a free agent next month, the first time in his career.
Whether he returns to the Chiefs or joins another team
remains to be seen. There was the officials admitted that
they missed that blow to the head on Mahomes, but
I don't think anybody really wants to wants to hear
about that. Another player that's contemplating the retirement game Eagles

(32:14):
defensive end Brandon Graham, who worked his way back from
a tricep tear to play in Super Bowl fifty nine,
recorded a tackle during the forty twenty two win. Next
up for Graham is determining whether he even wants to
play in twenty twenty five. The fifteen year veteran is
not under contract and said on WIP and Philly on Tuesday,

(32:34):
then he has wife for getting the conversations going about
what it is that he will do. Graham said the
comeback from injury to be part of the dominant defensive
effort was a fairy tale, and he appreciates that he
had a chance to go out on his own terms.
But as he contemplates his future, he says he's going
to take a little minute to sort it all out,
talk with general manager Howie Roseman and the team see
what's up.

Speaker 1 (32:54):
Because the goal was to win one.

Speaker 2 (32:56):
He'm said, I still feel like I got a lot
in the tank, but you know, I want to make
sure I go about it the right way. Graham, as
already the Eagles career leader in games played, joins kicker
Jake Elliott, right tackle Lane Johnson and longstrap snapper Rick
Lovato as the only players to be part of both
Eagles Super Bowl champions. City of New Orleans, who has

(33:20):
hosted Super Bowls, has to wait head to wait twelve
years to host its eleventh Super Bowl, super Bowl fifty nine,
it's hoping to get number twelve and half the time.
Jeff Duncan of the New Orleans Times Pekiyun said twenty
thirty one is the primary target for a return. The
next three Super Bowls are set Santa Clara, Los Angeles,

(33:42):
and Atlanta. Duncan explains for twenty nine and thirty, scheduling
conflicts exist for the Crescent City that leaves twenty thirty
one and Super Bowl sixty five. The only concern is
the vague sense that the proliferation of new stadiums might
eventually compel New Orleans to replace the Super Dome, which
has been around for nearly fifty years. But that would

(34:06):
be regarded as a plus. While other cities in that
same half century of burden taxpayers with newer and better building,
the Saints haveoud a way to make it work and
they're one and only home six years. Yeah, that seems
pretty quick turnout to come back to New Orleans. But
I mean, you know, anytime you got a dome and
you're in a fairly warm weather area relative for the

(34:28):
time of year, you're going to be maybe not in
the lead, but certainly in consideration Broncos Country tonight.

Speaker 1 (34:36):
Yeah, after this
