Speaker 1 (00:00):
Hello everybody, and welcome back to another edition of Broncos
Country tonight, a late night edition. I'm your fill in host,
Zach Segers, filling in for Benjamin. Alright, then we'll be
back tomorrow with me behind the glass. But for now,
you're stuck with me. I thought it'd be fun to
look at some of the big news breaking today in
the NFL and Denver Broncos, because I do think that
(00:22):
you'll see the Broncos involved in these free agent rumors
and conversations. Because even if we don't necessarily view the
wide receiver position as a major pressing need, a lot
of people do seem to view it as such a
major pressing need for the Denver Broncos to address, especially
when we're talking about national media. Today's big news is
(00:43):
that T Higgins and Davante Adams are seemingly available. The
New York Jets released Davante Adams today, so he's officially available,
and according to Adam Schefter, even despite the Cincinnati Bengals
franchise tagging T Higgins for the second consecutive season, Higgins
will be available on the open market, potentially for a trade.
(01:04):
But should the Broncos be involved No, Frankly, they shouldn't be.
They're not in a position to do this right now,
and that has very little to do with Davante or
T Higgins or you know, to appoint Ben's brought up
a lot target share or the Sean paidon offense. I
don't think it has a lot to do there. Why
should they pass up on Davante Adams or T Higgins? First?
(01:25):
I think you have to consider Sutton's reaction to all this.
Sutton has been somewhat at odds with the coaching staff
in front office for what twelve fourteen months now about
upping his deal, getting more guaranteed money on his deal.
Last year, it took a while, but they finally came
to an agreement. This year, it seems like we're headed
towards another standstill. Imagine Sutton's reaction when he's been asking
(01:47):
for this guaranteed money for two years, He's had the
two best years of his career, and the Broncos are
playing our ball with him. Meanwhile, they turn around and
back up the bring struck for Davante Adams and give
him twenty five million guaranteed, which is way more seemingly
than Sutton's asked for. You know what, if it's T
Higgins and they give not only the giant record setting
contract or borderline record setting contract, but also give up
(02:09):
draft capital. I imagine Courtland Sutton would be pretty mad about that.
Now T Higgins or Davante Adams would both be upgrades
over Sutton, So Sutton's feelings on the matter shouldn't be
the end all be all. Maybe you could flip him,
get some draft compensation in return, and make up some
of the money and draft picks you're shelling out for Higgins.
You wouldn't have to show out draft picks for Adams,
(02:31):
but help make up for what you're showing out to
acquire those talented receivers. That said, I don't think the
chemistry Nix has established with Sutton should be overlooked. And
Nick seems to have such great locker room chemistry and
leadership ability he's transferred around in college that maybe he
can just spark up that chemistry with filling the blank
(02:52):
receiver whenever need be. But I wouldn't take that for granted.
He has a very natural connection with Sutton. Sutton just
had I think you'd argue the best season of his
NFL career with a rookie quarterback in bo Nicks, despite
also them seemingly not being an ideal fit, with Sutton
being a vertical jump ball winning receiver and Nick's being
(03:14):
someone who thrives more in the underneath game beat you
with yards after the catch and by hitting his receivers
with a perfect dime in stride. That's not Sutton's game.
Sutton's game is throw it up, trust me to go
get it. I'm gonna go get it. And yet still
we saw that combination result in the best year of
Sutton's career. But beyond Sudon, I really think the big,
(03:35):
biggest reason goes beyond Sudden that being Devon Valet, Marvin Mims,
and Troy Franklin. Three cost controlled, extremely athletically talented receivers,
three receivers on rookie deals with multiple years left on
that rookie deals with having the least at two and
(03:57):
all of them are ninetieth percental plus athletes, the worst
of the bunch. Using relative athletics score a great metric
developed by I think he's called nath Bomb on Twitter
that takes all your combine measurements and compares it to
all the measurement data we have at your respective position
since nineteen eighty seven and boils it down to one
(04:18):
simple number based on what percentile you finish in. Marvin
Nims is the least athletic of that bunch in relative
athletics score, and he's a ninety one point fourth percentile athlete.
That is a very exciting munch. And of course athletic
testing doesn't translate to being a good receiver, but we
know how talented these guys are. Devon Valay was sneakly
(04:41):
the team's best receiver last year on a per target
basis as a rookie, and despite against Sutton having a
career year, Valay led the team in catch right over expectation,
so a more reliable target than any other wide receiver
on the offense, and he led the team. This is
the really crazy one. He led the team in total
(05:03):
expected points added that new EPA advanced metric, led all
the receivers in that despite having eighty fewer targets than
Sutton did. Sutton had one thirty five, Vala had fifty five.
And yet still i'm not talking per target total EPA added,
Valay still ranks ahead of Sutton and Sutton had more
(05:25):
touchdown receptions too, So it's not just big explosive plays
or a couple, you know, two three big explosive plays
giving delay the nod there. It is sustained being a
third down conversion specialist and making a lot of tough
catches and making a lot of downfield grabs. He's a
ninety fifth percentile wide receiver, and generally speaking, when you
(05:48):
have an older rookie, especially at an athletically demanding position
like wide receiver, the ceiling tends to be lower there. Right,
These are guys that oftentimes couldn't reach the NFL until
they were twenty four or twenty and athletically more dominant
than the college competition. Well, Vlay is just a dominant athlete.
It's not just going up against college We've seen it
(06:09):
work at the pro level. And again, ninety fifth percentile
for valat so he checks that box. And it also
wasn't a matter him being late to the draft. Wasn't
a matter of him failing at the college level. He
went on mission as a member of the Latter Day Saints,
and that delayed his college experience, delayed his opportunity to
(06:31):
enter the NFL draft. It also means he has a
lot less tread on his tires than the average twenty
six year old receiver. So although we see receivers generally
tail off at age thirty, it's not out of the
question that for Valay that happens closer to age thirty
one or age thirty two because of how many fewer
hits his body has had to absorb. And again, because
(06:51):
of his tremendous athletic potential the ability he has already
demonstrated on this offense, there's no reason to think he's
shouldn't be able to develop more. This is by far
the best offensive coaching he's ever gotten in his life.
This is the best quarterback play even relative to level,
relative to the high school level, relative to the college level,
(07:12):
relative to the pro level. This is the best offensive
coaching he's ever gotten, the best quarterback play he's ever received,
and he has all the talent in the world. People
should not count the layout as a player who can
still improve. Marvin Mims same thing. I mean, we just
saw him catch fire at the end of the season.
I don't think you want to mess up that momentum.
I think he can continue to grow and blossom into
(07:34):
a bigger role in twenty twenty five and twenty twenty six.
You need him to become a more well rounded receiver,
but that's not the most pressing need if he remains
a tertiary or even number four option in the passing game,
a guy who specializes on more of these gadget plays,
these plays around the line of scrimmage, run after the
catch stuff. Well, as we just talked about, that's a
great fit with Necks, so that shouldn't necessarily be a
(07:57):
deal breaker. Finally, Troy Franklin, you know, the connection between
him and Nicks just did not work with those two
their rookie year. But I don't think it should be
overlooked how frequently Troy Franklin got wide open downfield deep.
That is incredibly valuable. Right now, I think you could
(08:17):
argue the most valuable commodity in an NFL game is
the explosive play, whether that be the defensive explosive play
of a tackle for loss or a sack or a takeaway,
or the offensive explosive plays of a fifteen plus yard
carry or a twenty plus yard throw downfield either direction.
(08:38):
Those are at such a premium now the current defensive
mindset brought on by Vic Fangio is let's make it
impossible for these opponents to get defensive or explosive plays,
even if that means giving up some easy stuff underneath.
And Troy Franklin showed a natural ability to create opportunities
(08:59):
for explosives as a rookie. He didn't create those explosives
because he couldn't complete the catch. But I think you
take that problem. I think it's easier to teach or
at least gain more receiving reliability softer hands than it
is to develop the ability to run a four three
forty or whatever it was he ran and burn safeties
(09:20):
in cornerbacks over the top regularly. That's a much rarer
and harder to cultivate skill. That's when you either have
or you don't have. Troy Franklin does seem to have it.
And one of the biggest problems, one of the biggest
gaps in his game, I should say, is his size.
He's an incredibly undersized receiver. He's barely over one hundred
and eighty pounds listed on the roster, and that might
(09:43):
be generous. He is the slim reaper. Considering that frame, though,
and considering his age of just twenty two, it's not
out of the question that he could bulk up some,
that he could add a little more weight, a little
more strength to his game, just so he's not easily
pushed around or bullied by opposing defenders.
Speaker 2 (10:04):
Six to three.
Speaker 1 (10:05):
Guys that run as fast as he does don't grow
on trees. So what should the Broncos do to fill
out this wide receiver room and add a little more talent.
I think they should look to the draft, and not
the first round, not the second round, but somewhere in
the middle rounds, maybe even late day three on this.
In the draft, we saw how successful they were with Filet,
(10:25):
they should take another gamble on a larger bodied, poolsy
crazy athlete. And again, scouting is more complicated than just
draft the amazing athlete. But I do think there's merit,
especially at the wide receiver position. As you get further
away from the spine of the offense and defense, that
(10:48):
athletics ability, that movement ability in space becomes more and
more valuable. That raw athleticism becomes more and more valuable.
At positions like receiver, where it's you and another guy
on an island, it's valuable for creating separation, being a
better athlete again when you're on an island with another
defender and just beating them to create space. And this draft,
(11:12):
although it's a weaker draft in general, especially a wide receiver,
it has some ridiculous testers. Most people probably don't know
about Isaac Tesla out of Arkansas, who just scored the
eleventh best relative athletics score in Combiners since nineteen eighty seven.
Remarkable athlete six' four ran a four four. Forty ran
(11:37):
a faster short, shuttle which is going to ask you
to do some, turning some stop and. Start ran a
faster short shuttle Than Tes. Johnson where that should Be
Tes johnson's superpower is that stop start short area. Quickness
this six', four guy weighing two hundred and fifteen pounds
was faster than test five to five one hundred and
(11:59):
Fifty Pound tess johnson on that route or on that
drill rather ran a faster forty than. Him two it's
remarkable at that size a player like That Who sean
payton likes his bigger receivers that can be physical in the.
Blocking game that's. Extremely helpful those high end athletic traits
are also very helpful for contributing early on on, special
(12:23):
teams which whatever Receiver the broncos add to this room
will likely end up being the, number four number five
they're going to have to contribute on special and betting
on those talents with high end athletic upside allows for
the potential that they can develop into major contributors like
we Saw With devon valley without requiring a, major, investment
(12:47):
Which as Benjamin al wright's done a great job reporting on,
The Show sean payton isn't overly enthused, about doing, typically speaking,
Historically speaking so even Though the broncos probably need to
make some editions of wide receiver, this year probably should
look to the draft of TARGET on i don't think
you should be looking At the mecca bucas the other
(13:09):
big name receivers in. THIS class i think you should
look At The jalen royal Out Of, utah state some
of these, smaller name, high upside high athletic, potential targets
because that seems to fit the Archetype That sean Payton
And george payden have targeted during their tenure Running this broncos. Front,
(13:31):
Office Again Franklin, Mims, Tesla Franklin mims vallet all fit.
This archetype one LAST thing i want to touch on
before We Get patrick keyoti in here for the. Last
Segment The denver broncos have a chance to really upgrade
their own roster and really hurt one of their division
(13:55):
rivals in one. Big swing i'll be writing about this
in more depth ON the koa website this Week at koaclorado,
dot com so make sure you have your eyes peeled.
For that but there are three intriguing Free agents bolton From,
The Chiefs trevon morigg From, the Raiders And denzel perriman
From the chargers for very intriguing free agents at arguably
(14:20):
the broncos two biggest positions. OF need i think you'd
probably say running back in linebacker are the, top two
but you could argue it's linebacker. In safety they're all
schematic fits for What the broncos want to do. On
defense they're all extremely, talented players and if you're able to,
sign them you will seriously weaken a. Division rival the
(14:43):
best example of this might Be. The, raiders raiders Outside Of,
max crosby have little to no. Defensive talent their next
two best defensive Players Are trevon Morigg And, nate hobbs
both of which have a great chance of lee in
free agency. This cycle If the broncos were To Add,
(15:05):
trayvon morigg not only would they dramatically upgrade their, defense
overnight which is hard to SAY for, us guys but
you would immediately be removing one of the defense's achilles
heels and replacing it with one of the best young
safeties in. The Game And travon morriggs in his, mid
(15:26):
twenties he's got a lot of time left being a high.
Impact safety you pair Him With, brandon jones and all of,
a Sudden the broncos are back to having one of
the best safety tandems in all. Of football and within being,
a safety he shouldn't be. Overly expensive he should be
well Within the, broncos budget and safety isn't a position
you typically want to target in. The draft we've SEEN
(15:47):
the nfl really struggle when trying to draft some of
these more mentally dependent positions early in the draft because
it's harder to know these people's mental when you haven't
coached them or worked with them for an extended period.
Of time yourself and you're just trying to project and
(16:08):
calculate what they will be like in. Your room THAT'S
why i, think, linebacker safety those types of Positions the
broncos would be wiser to fill them on the. Veteran
market and thankfully there's some great options out there and
some great options. In, Division again i'll be taking a
closer look. On this you're at THIS On koa Colorado
dot com later, This Week But, broncos country keep your.
(16:29):
Eyes Peeled the broncos could seriously upgrade their defensive roster
and cripple some of their rivals defenses in one. Big
move excited to look at that more later. This week
but after, This break i'll be Joined By patrick Keyote
of Believing the Broncos And altitude adjustment to react TO
the nfl scouting combine and talk about What The denver
(16:50):
broncos should do in THIS Year's. Nfl draft so stay
tuned to EIGHT fifty koa ninety four TO One Fm
News Talk. Sports hell, hello everybody and welcome back once
Again To. Broncos, Country tonight i'm your host filling In.
(17:11):
For bengment, All Right, Zach segers and now let's head
up to the Koa common spirit health hotline where we're
Joined By. PATRICK keyote i believe In the broncos and. Altitude,
adjustment pat how are you? Doing tonight i'm, doing.
Speaker 2 (17:25):
Well man, you know this is the fun time.
Speaker 3 (17:28):
Of year the little lull before the free agent frenzy
combine was a lot, of Fun, Question Mark but i'm.
Speaker 2 (17:37):
Doing well happy to, Be.
Speaker 1 (17:39):
Here happy to, Have. YOU pat i can't wait to
pick your mind about all the draft happenings veteran market happenings.
As well you're one of the best DRAFT minds i
have so love to pick your BRAIN whenever. I, can
well thank you.
Speaker 3 (17:50):
SO much i appreciate that having a kid has kind of,
you know the dad brain has hit me hard. This
Spring but i'm trying to stay stay up on my.
Draft stuff and, you know this combine was an interesting one,
for sure because a lot of NAMES that i, was.
Speaker 2 (18:08):
Like, OH wait I gotta i gotta go go back
and check some stuff on. This guy THAT'S how i
felt throughout a lot of. The process, but, Yeah man
i'm always happy to to give.
Speaker 1 (18:17):
My, insights well you brought up. The combine let's maybe start. Right,
there actually what is your general take on the value of. The,
COMBINE yeah.
Speaker 3 (18:26):
I think it's it's dependent on like what position exactly you're.
LOOKING at i, feel like, you know the combine is
obviously one of the major testing events FOR the nfl
scouting community and, for teams, you know and then they
go into the pro days where they kind of get
a more centralized look at them in their, own environment
(18:49):
and this is kind of one of those situations, where yeah,
it's testing but this is also a great competition for.
These guys it's a way, to show, you know how
these guys prepared For the they know they, you know
when the, combine is they know they're going. Into it,
and yeah there's a lot of guys who, you know
decline to work out or or decline, to throw and,
(19:11):
that's fine but, there's also, you know a ton of
guys who maybe aren't as, well known who are trying
to show what kind of athlete.
Speaker 2 (19:20):
They ARE so i.
Speaker 3 (19:21):
Think depending on, the position there's definitely different things that
the combine is. Fantastic for, you know we, see obviously
like o linemen running the forty yard dash not like not,
my biggest not my, biggest, thing right but that ten
yard split is Maybe something i'm.
Speaker 2 (19:40):
Looking.
Speaker 3 (19:40):
At right, you know they're on, field drills, you know
the side to side. OF movement i was watching the
What the deuce daily drill with my wife and she.
Speaker 2 (19:50):
She became enamored, with. It right she, was like why
are they?
Speaker 3 (19:53):
Doing THIS and i explained, to, her what, you know
it's all about your lateral quickness and your foot speed and, YadA.
Speaker 2 (19:58):
YadA YADAH SO i i think that the combine is
definitely valuable in a lot.
Speaker 3 (20:04):
Of WAYS but i think a lot of people put
too much weight into, certain, things, like oh just focusing
on their forty time or just focusing on one aspect
of the. Combine win really it's the whole performance is
what you should be. Looking at how did they perform
in that one drill and then go to the next drill.
(20:26):
AND perform i think it's still. Definitely valuable they do
a lot of the same stuff at. Pro days maybe not,
as much but a lot of the. Same STUFF but
i think it's incredibly valuable still and it's not going away.
Speaker 2 (20:38):
Anytime soon.
Speaker 1 (20:39):
Fully agree and the most valuable part is the stuff
we don't have access to or aren't. Privy to with
the medical and. The interviews so there's definitely hidden value,
in IT and i think it is somewhat overlooked by.
The FANS something i think a Lot of broncos country
won't know about you is you recently became the quarterbacks
Coach At Lincoln high school up There. In, oregon congratulations.
Speaker 2 (21:01):
By, the way.
Speaker 1 (21:02):
THANK you i want to take this chance to pick
your offensive brain about some of the players we just
saw at. The combine who do you think is a
player on the offensive side of the ball that? To
you and if there's a couple that, jump out feel
free to list, a couple but a player or if
you at the combine that leapt out to you as a.
Speaker 3 (21:20):
Big, WINNER yeah I think i'll take this by position the.
RUNNING backs i think all of the running backs that
we've kind of been touting as like the, top guys, you.
Speaker 2 (21:32):
Know Like obviously jant didn't, you know, do Much BUT. HENDERSON.
R j harvey had a.
Speaker 3 (21:39):
GREAT commine I think i think he definitely went up
on a lot of. People's Boards jordan james was SOMEONE
who i was honestly kind of impressed with h with
his agility and. HIS burst i, mentioned that, you know
in our in our chat like his ability to get.
Outside quickly he showed that he could for a guy
(21:59):
that was a little. Bit Bigger, mason taylor the tight END.
FROM lsu i know we've had a few people mention
him here, and there but that's a GUY who i
feel his stock went up tremendously due to. The combine
but the, one player YOU know, i mentioned like the
names that, you know maybe not a lot of people,
know that, YOU know i see THEM and i go
(22:20):
Back and, i'm like, OH man i got to look
at this.
Speaker 2 (22:21):
Guy again the Center, From Georgia.
Speaker 3 (22:23):
Jared, wilson wow what a performance from him at the
combine and it made, me, go hmm this is an
area Where the broncos maybe need. To improve, You Know
luke wattenberg, was serviceable don't get, me wrong but this
is an area That the broncos probably need. To Improve
his his athleticism scores are through. The roof he's got,
great size, good length best length of the, center group
(22:47):
and his his forty time.
Speaker 2 (22:49):
Was great his ten yard split.
Speaker 3 (22:51):
Was fantastic this was a DUDE that i, was Like
if I'm the Broncos and i'm sitting There and i'm
looking at like what's the biggest weakness on our.
Speaker 2 (22:57):
Front five where's the one area that we. CAN improve
i think it's at the.
Speaker 3 (23:01):
Center Position so i'm Taking a i'm definitely taking a. Deeper,
Look yeah i'm looking at the running backs and looking
at the tight ends of looking at, these Receivers and, i'm,
going okay which which one of these guys is a
Good App But jared Wilson, from georgia he got me
thinking about. Some STUFF so i think that's the one
NAME that i really really took away from THIS where i,
WAS like i think that might be a guy that's
(23:22):
higher up on my list than he.
Speaker 1 (23:23):
Previously was, once again you're Listening To broncos. Country Tonight
zack segers filling In For. Benjamin alright joining Me is
patrick keyote Of altitude adjustment and believe In. The broncos
pat you just Mentioned How jared wilson really jumped out
to you at, the COMBINE and i. FULLY agree i
thought he was a. Center standout where do you Think
the broncos could target center in? THIS draft i know
(23:44):
you didn't love what we Saw From luke wattenberg. Last
season do you think that's a position they could target
as early as the second or maybe as early as
as the first with a Guy like zabel rising up boards.
Speaker 2 (23:53):
AS well i.
Speaker 3 (23:54):
Think We've Seen sean payton in the past not straight
away from upgrading the, offensive line even when he didn't necessarily,
need to, You know like he is the same guy
who took both McCoy and ruiz.
Speaker 2 (24:08):
In like very close proximity to.
Speaker 3 (24:10):
Each other so he's he's he's fine with targeting that position.
Speaker 2 (24:17):
When, oh man. That's tough it just KIND of i
think it just kind of depends on how that board falls.
Speaker 3 (24:22):
FOR them i think if if they're looking in the
second and third round and, they, say okay like, you
know we, got one we got one of our targets
in the, first round we got one of our targets
in the. Second round, you know maybe we have some
flexibility to potentially take a swing on, a guy.
Speaker 2 (24:39):
But it has to be the. Right, Guy Right Is
jared wilson going to be there in the?
Speaker 3 (24:43):
Third round your guess is as good, as mine but,
probably not, you know with, more tape more tape coming out,
and uh, you know more study on him and and
his his measurable as, HIS performance i think that he's
someone who could definitely.
Speaker 2 (24:57):
RISE early.
Speaker 1 (25:00):
I.
Speaker 3 (25:00):
Don't know there's some intriguing prospects at center in. This draft,
You know zabel has. Been mentioned monheim was a guy
who kind of caught my attention At The. Senior bowl
he's another. Big dude they really just need somebody who
is going to help in the run game and be
a mover but also has those pass. Blocking skills wattenberg
(25:20):
just like, for.
Speaker 2 (25:21):
Me it was just the lack, of experience the lack.
Speaker 3 (25:25):
Of like true strength. FOR him i think there's some
guys in this class who might be. Decent upgrades But
If I'm, Sean payton i'm, looking like whenever this guy's on,
The board, I'm, saying okay who else is on the
board here that we could also? Potentially take and is
that going to be a better pick than, you know
upgrading our offensive line, dramatically right because it could be
(25:45):
going too this next Season with wattenberg and.
Speaker 2 (25:49):
Our Boy.
Speaker 3 (25:50):
FROM oregon i JUST don't i don't know if that's
going to be good enough in the run game, To
help so.
Speaker 2 (25:57):
They might be looking at an. UPGRADE early i.
Speaker 3 (25:59):
Wouldn't Surprised Chris harris junior said first round they need
to take. A center i don't know, About, that CHRIS
but i Now that i'm looking at some of these
other options and the way that the board.
Speaker 2 (26:11):
Might fall Hey Maybe sean payton tricks us all and
he takes the center. First round.
Speaker 1 (26:15):
WHO knows i think another controversial first round pick would be,
running back and that's picking up. Some steam everyone's really
Familiar with ashton Gent but Amaro and hampton really picked up.
SOME steam i feel at, the combine really great testing numbers.
From him also the tape there is, just very. Very
impressive one THING that i think, is frustrating at least.
For me i'm sure it's frustrating to an extent for,
(26:37):
you too Is The Amaron Hampton javonte. Williams comparisons people
maybe writing Off of Mario and Hampton And broncos country,
because hey we've been down that Road. With javonte don't
want to do. It again in, your opinion do you
think there's enough Overlap with Hampton And javonte williams that
Maybe the broncos should stay away there that maybe it
(26:57):
presents some concerns to You with, Hampton's game your overall
Opinion of hampton and how he Compare to.
Speaker 3 (27:02):
I'll preface that first by, saying, that like helmet scouting
is one of the most atrocious things that.
Speaker 2 (27:09):
We could do as.
Speaker 3 (27:10):
A community right if we just looked at every single
player from every single school, and, said, well well like
we did this. Last year we did this last Year
With drake May And, mitch, Trubisky.
Speaker 2 (27:21):
Right like it's it's. Just ridiculous can we they're? Separate
players treat them. As, SEPARATE yes a.
Speaker 3 (27:28):
Big, RUNNING back a big running Back From. North Carolina
davante williams was also a big running back From the
University Of.
Speaker 2 (27:35):
North, carolina, LIKE yeah i get what you're trying.
Speaker 3 (27:37):
To do, but like let's look at the differences of
them as, players come, you know, Completely separate separate the.
Speaker 2 (27:44):
Helmet from, the.
Speaker 3 (27:45):
PLAYER right i Think that Omar and, hampton's like Outside of,
jint obviously he has arguably the best contact bounds in the.
Speaker 2 (27:53):
ENTIRE class i think.
Speaker 3 (27:55):
He's a really, tough runner can be north, and SOUTH
but i feel like he's a guy that can also
sell in a gap or a zone scheme just as
much as he could in a. Gap scheme has really,
good vision fight, through, arm tackles. EXTREMELY well i think
that this dude is deserved of all this first. Round talk,
You know chargers would be scary, For him minnesota would
(28:15):
be scary. For him I've seen chicago as a potential
option for him. As well, You know Dallas if jant goes.
Before them so this dude's stock just keeps climbing and climbing.
And climbing, you, know obviously, injuries happen anything, can happen
and it's really sad what Happened.
Speaker 2 (28:30):
To javonte but, let's like let's take the.
Speaker 3 (28:33):
Helmets off let's look at both of these players independently.
AS players I think Omar and hampton has. THE juice
i think he's got, the TOUGHNESS and i think he's
got the grit to be a really good back in.
Speaker 2 (28:43):
This league just depends on where he goes into. WHAT
team i LOVE that i.
Speaker 1 (28:48):
Fully agree, once again This is zach seekers put In
for Benjamin all Right On Broncos, country tonight being Joined
By patrick Coyote of believe In the broncos On The
believe Network And altitude adjustment Part Of Let's talk Bronco
Pat nikomon warri Out Of south CAROLINA had i think
one of the most impressive combine workout performances we've seen
(29:09):
at any position ANY in nfl. Combine history do you
think and out there he's getting first. Round buzz to,
be fair he was getting it even before. THIS workout
I think dj had him going To the broncos in
his Very First DANIEL Jeremiah nfl network had him going
To the broncos in his very first. Mock draft, i'm
curious because there is a clear need a safety For.
(29:29):
The broncos do You Think kimon worri is worth that
top twenty selection at the safety position or do you
think he's a little bit more of a workout warrior
as we've heard many labeled throughout. Combine History, ah man
not only is this dude a certified, workout warrior but
he's the tape.
Speaker 3 (29:49):
Matches up this dude's. A freak he's a freak athlete at.
The combine he's a freak athlete on. The field this
dude is all over the place great. Ball skills we
had tried Talking About south carolina scheme and how they
kind of run a very pro style, defensive scheme and
we've seen some really really, strong backs defensive backs come
(30:11):
Out Of south carolina over. RECENT years i think, his athleticism,
his freakishness it definitely begs, the question like is.
Speaker 2 (30:18):
This guy first?
Speaker 3 (30:19):
Round, talent well his tape definitely. Matches up he's, a thumper,
you know kind of the same way that WE.
Speaker 2 (30:25):
SAW. J l skinner that last Year At. Boise state
like he's just flying all over. The field this guy's a.
Big body.
Speaker 3 (30:31):
You KNOW would i rather see them spend that first
round pick? Somewhere, else maybe but on, This, side like
if he's the best player available at twenty and they
take him, At twenty i'm not even gonna. Blink twice i'm, Gonna,
Say okay like we're loading up with a young. Defensive
talent we've got a cost, controlled boundary, you know cost
(30:51):
controlled cornerback for the next couple. Of years we've got
now a freak safety who's cost controlled for the next
four or. Five years, that way it frees us money
to spend on the, defensive line, at linebacker, you know
potentially on the offensive side of the ball in free agency.
Speaker 2 (31:08):
AS well i.
Speaker 3 (31:09):
Wouldn't, hate it, you know it would be where are
they going to? Put him how are they going to?
Use him because We've Seen vance joseph take the freak
athletic defensive back before and then just kind of not
figure out how to use. This GUY so i think
it would be interesting TO see I Think jim leonard
also getting his grubby little fingers all over of athletic
(31:34):
freak like that would be awesome. To see this dude
would be Flying Around, kareem jackson.
Speaker 2 (31:41):
Who would be the new statement If emin warre was
going to Be A. Denver BRONCO but I wouldn't i wouldn't.
Hate it to answer, YOUR question i wouldn't hate.
Speaker 3 (31:49):
THE pick i think that it would just, be like
how are how are they planning to?
Speaker 2 (31:53):
Use him how are they planning to? Use him would
be my Only.
Speaker 1 (31:56):
Concern joining Me is pat of Believing the, broncos coyote,
that is of believe In the broncos and. Altitude adjustment
i'm too familiar, With, YOU pat i could pick your
brain about the draft all, day LONG but i want
to ask you about some of these vets out there on.
The Market, Davante adams he's. Released Today t higgins received
(32:16):
the franchise tag From The cincinnati, bengals today second year in.
A row he Got That adam schefter's, reporting though That
the bengals still might be looking to Trade t higgins
and see if they can get some value back there
in a tagging. Trade situation do you Think the broncos
should be in the market for either of these big.
NAME receivers i.
Speaker 2 (32:34):
Think here's how here's how.
Speaker 1 (32:36):
It.
Speaker 3 (32:36):
Goes right, You Know I'm george Payton and I'm. Calling,
CINCINNATI hey i heard you're trying to Ship t. HIGGINS
out i know you just. Tagged him what's?
Speaker 1 (32:46):
The?
Speaker 2 (32:46):
Price, oh? Okay thanks? Never mind.
Speaker 3 (32:50):
CLICK right i think that the asking price is going
to be pretty high because they're going to want good return.
On that they franchised this guy two years in a
row and he's played on the tag too years. In
ROW but, i, think, man like are you are we
going To send pick TWENTY For? T higgins i. DON'T
know i don't KNOW if i would agree. WITH that
i think they definitely still make, the call just see
(33:10):
what the. Cost is same Thing. WITH davante i think
like you got to, at least, you know contact his
agent and, be, like, hey like what are we?
Speaker 2 (33:17):
Talking here how much cheese do?
Speaker 3 (33:19):
You Want Because davante adams that would be A fun
he could definitely BE the z in. This offense, You
know i've talked all, Off seasons zach about how this, team,
needs desperately desperately NEEDS a, z receiver someone who can
work on or, off ball who, you know can, attack
vertically can, win vertically can win in the middle of,
the field win against. Man coverage and this GUY'S. A
(33:41):
vet he's A. Savvy vet this is the type of
guy that you would love to have in the locker
room with a young quarterback Like. Bo nicks and there's
ALREADY another vet receiver on the Team In courtland sutton.
As well so, it's like let's maximize this offense as much.
As possible, that way we don't have, to worry don't
have to worry about finding, another receiver whether it be
in the draft or. Free agency it still allows you
(34:03):
to develop Guys like Vele, and franklin and it allows
you to really Keep using mems in that slot role
where he was. Much Better he mims is not going
to BE the z in. This offense he showed that
he couldn't play that role to the extent that it needed.
To BE so i think they have a plan. FOR
him i would kick the Tires On. Devonte Adams If
(34:25):
cooper cup, Is released i'd probably kick the tires, on
him just to kind. OF see, I know i know
your feelings, about that but it would only be if.
He's released bring him in on a cheap deal and maybe.
We'll TALK but, i think, you know got to at
least kick the tires on some OF these. VET moves
i know certain people have said that maybe that's not,
(34:45):
the play or maybe they'll find someone who's not a
super big name to, bring in which, you know, that's
FINE but i think they definitely still need to add to.
Speaker 2 (34:55):
This room it wouldn't hurt to kick the tires on
some of, those. MOVES though.
Speaker 1 (34:58):
I agree i think they should absolutely exhaust all the
avenues at, your disposal look at everything. You can, once
again Thank you pat for. The Time Is patrick Coyote
