Speaker 1 (00:00):
Breemace is Nick Ferguson, and I'm looking through the glass
over here in the producer studio and I see Zack Seegers.
Funny enough, he slipped the documents I needed today right
under the door, like it was a prison meal. So
thank you Zach for scurrying away quickly and feeding me
everything that I needed for this evening. So happy to
be in and if you're happy to hear us, you
can call us three oh three seven one, three eighty
(00:21):
five eighty five, or text us on the KOA Common.
Speaker 2 (00:23):
Spirit Healthline five sixty six nine zero.
Speaker 1 (00:25):
You can also stream the show on the iHeartRadio app.
Leave us a message by clicking on the little microphone,
or you can tweet at us at KOA Colorado, at
breemeas just three oh three, Nick Ferguson Underscore twenty five,
or add Zach Underscore Seegers over on the X machine.
It's free agency frenzy. I'm so excited to be in
the studio. I think Benjamin Albright lick too many door knobs.
(00:47):
We need to put them in a bubble.
Speaker 3 (00:48):
Nick oh Man, see, I don't know where to go
with that. I had a joke, shut up, But now
you just kind of drink it off gulf.
Speaker 2 (00:59):
Oh I'm sorry.
Speaker 4 (01:00):
Here's the thing I'm wondering.
Speaker 3 (01:01):
Okay, you're on this side of the glass, Zach is
on that side right, So I'm wondering, at some point
in the show, am I gonna have to be meals
Lane and.
Speaker 4 (01:11):
Just kind of keep you.
Speaker 3 (01:12):
Guys apart because I know how terrify that Zach Seegers
says that he is of you.
Speaker 4 (01:19):
That's been looking dough knob. That's a big thing.
Speaker 3 (01:23):
I'm just concerned about John, to keep you guys separated,
like this glass between you.
Speaker 5 (01:28):
I'm only here because I feel like I have you
to stand between us. It's like a Jerry Springer situation
when they start going at it, but then they've got,
you know, the bouncers there to keep it apart, keep
it nice. It'll be audio Jerry Springer for the listeners.
It's a shame we don't have a camera crew to
chase it and I through the studio as all live Stranger.
Speaker 1 (01:49):
I will strap a GoPro to my head so you
can see me as I run around the halls. It'll
be like Benny Hill.
Speaker 3 (01:54):
You know what I noticed now that you say that
when when Zach came in to give us the rundown.
I mean the way that he kind of handed it off. Yes,
and I am sitting between so yes, it into a
paper airplane.
Speaker 1 (02:10):
And just sent it across and I you know, the
same cat instincts that were going through. I'm just scraping
out the window before we went live.
Speaker 2 (02:18):
Yes, exactly.
Speaker 4 (02:20):
Listen, I got you that. I'm gonna hold you down
like Broncos free agents.
Speaker 1 (02:28):
Nick Ferguson is the only one I think that could
hold me back right from his exacting is acting my revenge.
Speaker 2 (02:34):
It's all.
Speaker 1 (02:35):
It's all fun and jokes. We're having a great day
so far. I'm warm and all the lights are directly
on my face. So we'll get that switched out here
later on. But you were talking about retention holding down
the floor, right we'rongos. I'm making some really great moves
there to continue what I would say is a strong
defense that you really wanted to keep intact.
Speaker 2 (02:54):
But they added some pop to that.
Speaker 1 (02:56):
Right, So not only did you have Fathonga, but you
also have Greenlow coming in to really add that. That
is so nice of you Zac Seekers for doing that
for me. But he will not step entirely into the studio.
It makes me amazing splash plays to get this done.
And I'm so excited to talk about that because Nick,
I feel like you saw this happening and wanted it
(03:19):
to go in this direction. Right, You got DJ Jones
coming back and you add two large and I want
to say mean, but like that, the attitude is mean.
Speaker 2 (03:30):
Yes, are you excited about these news?
Speaker 3 (03:32):
Yeah?
Speaker 1 (03:33):
I am.
Speaker 3 (03:33):
Someone asked me on EGX was I a psychic? And no,
I am not, because if I were psychic, I had
those louder numbers.
Speaker 4 (03:44):
Yeah right, But I'm not. What I am is a
person that looked at the Broncos from.
Speaker 3 (03:50):
An overall team standpoint, And then I thought about from
my days playing here with the Broncos, what was our
defense like? Did we have playmakers on all all three levels?
And when I say that, you need multiple playmakers. But
the other thing is how physical were we at that time?
Because I immediately go back to the teams that I
played on. You got Ian Go, DJ Williams, John Mobley
(04:13):
and Al Wilson at your linebacker position. You got a
guy like Trevor Price on your front line with mixed
with Gerard Warren. You have me, John Lynch, Chad Banley,
and Darren Williams. Right, I mean, you get a defense
like that, guy. Guys are made of guys who've come
from different places, and we'll put it that way, guys
who are not all first round players. Right. John's coming
(04:37):
from Tampa with the neck injury, and Tampa thought that
his career was over.
Speaker 4 (04:42):
Right. But then for us, we had all.
Speaker 3 (04:45):
Those negative things said about each one of us, but
we found the way to play together, and we competed
and practiced the same way we competed in games, because.
Speaker 4 (04:55):
The idea was that for every two plays that John
I had to make three, right, because I didn't want
to get lost in the shuffle.
Speaker 3 (05:05):
So when I look at the Broncos defense last year,
they had the makings the foundation of being that type
of defense. But I always go back to one game
over the seventeen game season, and that was the.
Speaker 4 (05:20):
Final game that we saw from the Broncos in Buffalo.
Speaker 3 (05:25):
I saw that Buffalo was a little more physical than
the Denver Broncos were.
Speaker 4 (05:30):
And then when it came to.
Speaker 3 (05:31):
Execution, the execution wasn't exactly I don't believe the way
any of the coaches thought it was. So when that happens,
you have to go out and you have to try
to make your team better and bring in and bringing
DJ back. That was a key part of it. And
you say, okay, well, how did the Broncos get better overall?
Getting better on the second level, right, getting better and
(05:54):
back in the secondary.
Speaker 4 (05:55):
And for me, I love everything about I know Band
was screaming at me via text message. What about the injuries?
What about the injuries? I say, man to hell with
that injury stuff.
Speaker 3 (06:05):
Yeah, I want guys coming in here who have that attitude,
and that attitude is infectious because you got acid three guys.
Even though DJ's been here for a while, you have DJ,
Kim Law and Voga coming from San Francisco.
Speaker 2 (06:19):
You talk about the chemistry, I mean it's innate, it's enormous.
Speaker 1 (06:21):
So the Denver Broncos, Saint s Niners are now basically
all together of sorts and creating that extra chemistry.
Speaker 4 (06:29):
A bit of breaking news for you guys.
Speaker 5 (06:31):
Oh love it.
Speaker 2 (06:31):
I'm so scared.
Speaker 5 (06:33):
The Broncos tiede end knee just became a little less pressing.
According to Jordan Schultz hopefully not from a Starbucks sorry,
but wide receiver sorry, I thought it was tight end.
Wide receiver Trent Sherfield is signing with the Broncos on
a two year, eight million dollar deal. I think he's
(06:54):
a bit of a deep threat for the Minnesota Vikings
in the past, but he's coming to Denver on a
two year, eight million dollar deal.
Speaker 1 (07:00):
We don't know the guarantees yet, all right, Well, that
at least adds to the room there. I know that
we've been cautioned that our expectations should be a little
bit lower when it comes to free agents signings, but
I don't know how this one's going to play out.
I love their adding to the room because I think
what's really important as we look to what the Broncos
are doing in free agency is that it doesn't shore
(07:22):
up the gas that they're going to need to also
double dip in the draft for So even if they
sign a wide receiver, I wouldn't be shocked to see
them draft wide receiver as well. The same would have
been true for tight end or running back. So this
is an exciting breaking news piece. There's actually your things
for throwing that over here. I wasn't sure what to expect.
It wasn't that, and I thought we were going in
a different direction. But Nick, do you have any initial
(07:46):
responses to that news that's breaking here right now on
Broncos Country tonight.
Speaker 3 (07:50):
Well, basically, the Broncos is trying to help add depth
to their wide receiver room. And idea is that, Okay, Well,
looking at their depth, they got a bunch of young guys.
Now have all their young guys perform? Well, no, but
(08:11):
in Sherfield, you get a guy who's been in the
league about seven years, six foot two oh six, and
now you have a guy to come in and get
these guys.
Speaker 4 (08:21):
To compete, right Because for me last year it was
Josh Reynolds. Why he brought in.
Speaker 3 (08:26):
Josh Reynolds, that didn't really pan out for the team.
But bringing a guy in who has some skin in
the game, no, that changes things. But at the same time,
I still figures that the Broncos still need to go
out in the draft and get some of these younger
guys to kind of keep building around bow Knicks. Because
(08:47):
even though Sheriffield is a veteran guy, I mean going
you have to go back to twenty twenty two when
he was a member of the Miami Dolphins, where he
arguably had his best year. I mean two touchdowns four
hundred and seventeen yards. So to me, that's not a
you know, receiver wide receiver one, wide receiver. Two. That's
(09:08):
almost like, okay, well, complimentary, peace, a guy being a
wide receiver three, top of guys, Yeah, go ahead.
Speaker 5 (09:13):
Looking more into this, he has been used as a
bit of a deep threat in the past. I think
what might be the main motivation behind this is he's
been a big time kick returner and punt returner over
the recent years. So maybe as we see Marvin Nims's
role expanding the offense, they don't want to expose him
to those hits on special teams and Shirfield's fillion in there.
He's also been used not just as a returner, but
(09:35):
on kick and punt coverage. Broncos just lost Tremon Smith,
one of their best kick coverage guys punt coverage guys
to the Texans. Trent Shirfield would also help them replace
that role, and he's a receiver down the depth chart,
but I think he's probably seen more special team snaps
than offensive snaps this year.
Speaker 3 (09:52):
But for me, this doesn't seem like a move where
you're going like oohs and odds based on what happened yesterday.
From the defensive side, it's just like, oh, okay, they
got a veteran wide receiver who can come in and
add some depth, possibly play on a special team.
Speaker 4 (10:08):
Side of things.
Speaker 3 (10:09):
But this is still one of the reasons why I
feel as though the Broncos still need to be in
the market, not just for one, maybe two, maybe even
three wide receivers.
Speaker 4 (10:21):
I know it sounds utterly ridiculous, but the reason I'm.
Speaker 3 (10:24):
Saying that is because we saw a significant progress with
bow Knicks last season, and the idea is to continue
to have that jump move forward this particular season.
Speaker 1 (10:38):
Yeah, well, I think Nick wants to throw it over
to but Zach, I want to know two years, eight
million dollars. Is that in line with what you're expecting
financials wise? On truefield, Yes, for a mid tier prospect, right,
because Nick's exactly right. It's not the splashiest, but it
adds the depth there.
Speaker 2 (10:56):
I would like to see them do more.
Speaker 5 (10:58):
To me, it's a little high. I do think he's
mainly going to be a special teamer. I think this
is mainly replacing Tremont Smith, and Tremon Smith was great
for this team and just signed for seven point five
over too. If you're willing to go to eight over two,
I would have just rather they kind of invested in
Tremont Smith. I guess he's going to play more on
offense than Tremon Smith was going to play on defense
(11:20):
to next point, So that justifies maybe the extra value there.
But you know, this isn't a super expensive move or
anything that's going to limit them to make other moves.
They can manipulate the money how they want. They could
move off it after a single season.
Speaker 4 (11:34):
I think it's low consequence.
Speaker 2 (11:38):
I think that's fair.
Speaker 1 (11:39):
I think we can go with that and we can
chalk it up to filling some needs. And I agree
with your point where the special teams there. And I
want to ask Nick your response to Tremont Smith kind
of leaving his role here with the Broncos and do
you not feel like that opens up the up the
opportunity for other athletes and players.
Speaker 3 (12:02):
Anytime any guy leaves, however he exits a building, whether
he leaves on his own or he's given his walking
papers because he doesn't re sign the jail with the team,
it definitely opens up another spot. But as far as
Jim was concerned to me, remember that that Thursday night
game against the Chargers that led to the Chargers kicking
(12:22):
that that field gold and that rule that none of
us knew that push Harball pulled out of his back pocket.
Who was involved in that particular play, right, yeah, tr
mom was involved in that play. And that's the same
play that when Bencott wicked was fired that I had
so many people telling me, well.
Speaker 4 (12:40):
That was one of the reasons he was fired in
that particular play. But I'm like, well, he wasn't out
there on the field.
Speaker 1 (12:45):
That's a little reactionary. I feel like that's a lot
of what we're hearing though, And then narror is when
it comes to that, it's one bad performance that sticks
out like a sore thumb and then leads to that
being the reason that you move on from a player
or a coach. Right, I think a little something else
is at they're an a fault there, But it's an
interesting concept.
Speaker 2 (13:03):
I love the text that just came through here though,
from the seven to.
Speaker 1 (13:05):
Two zero three wide receivers, question mark, exclamation point, and
a bunch of emojis. Hot take Tuesday. We probably don't
even need to draft one. I would say, even if
you picked up two your draft in one.
Speaker 3 (13:14):
Wait, maybe I'm sorry, I don't know who that person
is on the text line, but they're saying if you
were to get three wide receivers, that would be ridiculous.
Speaker 4 (13:23):
And let me clarify for context here we go.
Speaker 3 (13:26):
You can go out with the picks that the Broncos have,
you could select.
Speaker 4 (13:29):
One, yeah, anywhere from two, three to four.
Speaker 3 (13:32):
But in free agency, because it's a deep receiver class,
you still.
Speaker 4 (13:37):
Can add that talent, right, that's valuable talent.
Speaker 3 (13:41):
What the Broncos have shown under George Faydon that they
had the propensity to draft and develop guys. We've seen
so many guys that George Paydon is drafted that is
playing on significant.
Speaker 4 (13:51):
Amount of time. So that's what I'm talking about.
Speaker 3 (13:53):
I'm not suggesting the Broncos go out and just draft
three wide receivers.
Speaker 4 (13:57):
I'm not saying that.
Speaker 3 (13:58):
And if someone is suggest the Broncos are set with
their wide receiver room, I would say no, And that's
not an indictment of the players in the room. But
I know how the NFL works, right. The idea is
you have to add more talent to make sure that
the players currently on the.
Speaker 4 (14:17):
Roster don't do the one thing that is kind of
normal for.
Speaker 3 (14:21):
All us to do, become complacent. You don't want anyone
to think that, you know what, man, my job is good.
Let me kick my feet up. No, I want you
to be on a hunt every single day. Bring listeners, Zach.
That's what I learned from being around Bill Parcelles. Because
whatever you did last year, guess what that was last year? Yeah,
(14:45):
you got to bring your a game today in twenty
twenty five. And if you don't, then how do you
expect those guys to get better? Like Davon Vylay, I mean,
he was the bell of the ball through in trading
camp right, see as much of him. But in order
for that young man to reach the highs of potential
(15:05):
that he cans, he needs someone nipping at his heels.
Speaker 4 (15:09):
I need so Texer put that in your pipe of smoking.
Speaker 2 (15:13):
Oh my goodness, Nick is pricey this evening. I agree
with it, though, because you don't want to, and this
would be different.
Speaker 1 (15:20):
I think the conversation is different if bo Nix doesn't
have the year that he has and the stop watch
on a window of opportunity to be true contenders, because
then I feel like you could lean on the younger
guys like a Vele and a Franklin and be okay
with where their development is heading without really adding some
of these splashier editions here. But I still feel like
if you're going to raise not only the floor but
(15:43):
increase the ceiling on the wide receiver room, you have
to continue to add talent there, and you can't just
bank on what you already have, and you can't just
utilize the draft in order to add players to kind
of fill that need here. I think the conversation around
Broncos Country is changing so rapidly, and it's evolving to
this talking about what they need to do to win
now instead of relying on, oh, we're still proving it.
(16:05):
We're going to see the bonus regression and all of
those other storylines that are a little bit more negatively geared.
Speaker 2 (16:11):
Simply for where we're at, Zach.
Speaker 1 (16:13):
I don't know how you feel about that necessarily, But
does the conversations change because of the success of Bonis
I think so.
Speaker 5 (16:21):
You know, you still have some of the Russell Wilson
deadcap this year with thirty million, but it's nothing that
is going to prohibit this team from winning games. You know,
you had ninety million in dead cap, it was a
third of your entire budget on the roster last year,
and you made the playoffs. You know, now you have
more quality draft picks. It's not the strongest draft that
you have two top fifty picks, or maybe that second
(16:43):
one's fifty first, but still to the picks in that
top fifty range and can turn this roster over more,
add a little more talent to some of these key areas,
and you know, maybe this isn't the super Bowl year.
I think Dave Logan was making a great point on
a Sports Zoo about they're probably building more towards twenty
twenty six and twenty twenty seven are going to be
(17:05):
with their years when they're really pushing more for the
super Bowl. But this is a year where you're hoping
to take a step forward. And I don't think you
shouldn't limit yourself by thinking, oh, we're only so early
in our build. We don't have to worry about this.
You know, make the best team you can right now.
And having bo Nicks on that rookie deal with as
a cheap player for the next four seasons, here is
(17:25):
going to really aid that.
Speaker 3 (17:28):
Anyone that's not looking at the idea of upgrading at
every single position, they're either freaking mind.
Speaker 4 (17:36):
And the reason I say that is if you look
at the AFC as a whole.
Speaker 3 (17:40):
Right, twenty twenty five is an opportunity for the Broncos
to take a step in the right direction.
Speaker 4 (17:46):
With the Raiders, we don't know what they are. We
don't know what's happening with the Chargers.
Speaker 3 (17:49):
We know Kansas City's going to reload because that's what
Brett Beach does all the time.
Speaker 4 (17:53):
But you moved to AFCs, right.
Speaker 3 (17:55):
You look at the Texas, they just got rid of
Lamy Tomson.
Speaker 4 (17:59):
What are they going to be come to twenty twenty five?
Speaker 3 (18:01):
So it gives the Broncos an opportunity to get a
perfect seating in this upcoming playoffs because the Coats they
got Daniel Jones and Anthony Richards and competing for a
starting job.
Speaker 4 (18:14):
Jacksonville they just got a new coach duo, so they're
still trying to figure it out. Tennessee, we still don't
know what they are. Right, did you go to the
North Baltimore? We know what they are.
Speaker 3 (18:24):
Pittsburgh doesn't even have a quarterback Joe Burrow. They're gonna
be fine Cleveland.
Speaker 4 (18:28):
I don't know. New England's gonna be right there. To
just have a new GM and a new head coach.
Speaker 3 (18:33):
The Miami Dolphins should be in the mix of show
the Buffalo Bills. So I am really bullished on the
Broncos going out, being as though they made the defensive moves,
they made a free agency looking to the draft to
add wide receiving.
Speaker 4 (18:45):
Talent and running back talent.
Speaker 3 (18:47):
This is prime territory for the Broncos to assert themselves.
Speaker 4 (18:51):
Anyone thinking differently, Hey man, they don't even holler at me.
Speaker 2 (18:55):
Nick Fergus going asserting himself this evening.
Speaker 1 (18:57):
It's seventy degrees in Denver, and spring is around the corner,
Spring games ramping up in black and gold.
Speaker 2 (19:01):
They will be upon us soon. Let's talk buffs next.
Speaker 1 (19:04):
This is Broncos Country to Night k Wait eight fifty AM,
ninety four one FM, The Vibes.
Speaker 2 (19:14):
We'll talk about vibes a little bit later, because I
know Nick wants to get into some of that, but
I want to talk about and shift gears a little
bit here.
Speaker 1 (19:20):
We're still going to be talking about football, but I
mentioned spring, and that brings the conversation of spring games.
Speaker 2 (19:26):
Nikola.
Speaker 1 (19:27):
I think you were in and around the area here
hanging out in Boulder. Did you attend first day of practices?
Speaker 4 (19:33):
Well, Brie, there's only so much that I can say.
Speaker 3 (19:35):
Okay, what I will say was, I was up in
Boulder today and it's still it's buzzing, even though I
know this is the first day of spring practice. It
is buzzing because you think about what coach Prime was
able to do in his first two years, and now
there's no Shador and there's no Travis Hunter. So the
(19:56):
question becomes, who are those next couple of guys to
step up and to lead and be the face almost
like NFL franchise, you know, for the SeeU buffs and
automatically obviously just like the pros. Everything he's about the quarterback.
And they got two good quarterbacks. Man, they got two
good quarterbacks. Caten Saltis who is coming over from Liberty,
(20:20):
and you got Juju Julian Lewis.
Speaker 4 (20:23):
So for me, I'm gonna be looking forward to that
quarterback battle.
Speaker 3 (20:27):
This spring to see which one of those guys emerge
and take it over. But it changes a lot of
things for CU because Pat Shermer said this day in
our paraphrase where when he first stepped into the college ranks,
he didn't really understand it the way that he now
(20:48):
understands it because he was used to somewhat of that
NFL culture. Right, But you have to understand college football
and it's still football, but it's still a little different,
right as far as monitoring players, engaging with those players,
developing that chemistry and that conversation, and sometimes you know,
(21:09):
Jule and Lewis said this today, right, it's one of
the reasons he chose to you because they have a
lot of former NFL players who are now coaching the program.
Speaker 4 (21:21):
And then you look at the stats that Shador put
up and.
Speaker 3 (21:27):
Jayden Salter he said the same thing, and I think
that's a great thing. That's a positive thing. So these
kids can see other men who reach that level that
they are trying to attain to reach and now being
coached by those guys. But Juju said this about coach
Pat Sherman.
Speaker 4 (21:47):
He's a great guy. He loves the relationship.
Speaker 3 (21:50):
Obviously, sometimes things can you know, become a certain way, right,
and I don't want to say get heated, but when
you have individuals who are passionate about the game and
they are passionate about the execution. Those things are going
to happen. There's gonna be some exchange of dialogue. But
those guys are loving this time of year right now
(22:11):
and is very optimistic up and Boulder.
Speaker 2 (22:14):
You mentioned optimism, what about confidence?
Speaker 1 (22:17):
Coach Prime wanted to instill some confidence in his guys
this year, saying that they're even better than the team before,
and that's hard to imagine.
Speaker 2 (22:25):
You mentioned, and it made me a little solemn and.
Speaker 1 (22:27):
Sad that Shador Sanders and Travis Hunter will no longer
be buffs and they're not there out in Boulder during
those games, and I'm just now starting to feel the
reality of that situation. But Coach Prime is building his
guys up and thinks that they can improve on what
was overall their seven and two record in the Big
twelve and nine and four overall. Do you think this
(22:48):
squad is going to be better long term this season
as they continue to build up and develop.
Speaker 3 (22:53):
That's hard to say because change can present challenges and
most people change is difficult.
Speaker 4 (23:01):
It doesn't really have to be unless you want it
to be. Well.
Speaker 3 (23:03):
Once again, think about what Travis in your door were
able to accomplish. So now whomever comes in, no matter
what position that you're playing, you're trying to take the
Buffs to a whole different level.
Speaker 4 (23:16):
And it's not just about getting to a bowl game.
They've already done that.
Speaker 3 (23:21):
Now it's about getting to a bowl game and getting
that first win under Coach Prompt. It's no different than
the Broncos situation. Like they're kind of similar parallels in
that regard. I mean, the Broncos had a playoff drought.
They finally went to the playoffs with Bo Nicks and
Sean Payton at the Helm.
Speaker 4 (23:42):
They got there, they didn't win. Right now, the idea
is that, oh, now we know what that feels like.
You got to taste. Now, you got to taste in
your mouth. It doesn't taste like Rama Noodle's. It tastes
like blame me Young.
Speaker 3 (23:53):
And it's like, yes, once it tastes blame me young,
it is hard to go back to Obama Newdy. So
that's where both of these organizations are right now, taking
that next step. Now with Coach Prime, they got a
lot of young guys, a lot of freshmen, and they
have about maybe fifteen twenty transfer us.
Speaker 4 (24:13):
Yeah, so that's kind of the new college football. But
they're excited.
Speaker 3 (24:18):
This is the first day of fifteen days, so let's
just see how things come along.
Speaker 4 (24:22):
But I'm excited for the Broncos and I'm excited for
the Buffs.
Speaker 1 (24:26):
I think it's a tremendous time to be a football fan,
especially in Colorado, and that goes for all of the
Colorado teams as well. But I wanted to also ask
you because we've seen a lot of programs get away
from the spring game simply because maybe it tips their
cap to what they're going to be running and maybe
some schemes.
Speaker 2 (24:44):
And do you see the bus following suit or is
this so good for them?
Speaker 1 (24:47):
I think not only is it good for their promotional
reasons and whatnot, but it's good for coach Prime to
get all of what he wants out there out there.
Speaker 2 (24:54):
I don't see the Buffs falling in suit with that trend.
Speaker 4 (24:57):
No, I don't see it either. Like last year. I mean,
did you were you in Boulder.
Speaker 3 (25:01):
For that spring game?
Speaker 5 (25:03):
No?
Speaker 2 (25:03):
Because I think it was cold.
Speaker 4 (25:05):
Do you live in Colorado like it?
Speaker 2 (25:10):
I've had this argument with her so many they have.
Speaker 4 (25:13):
A triple goost down jackets that you can wear.
Speaker 2 (25:16):
I don't like layers. I don't even like wearing pants.
Speaker 5 (25:19):
Man, here's the maning thing.
Speaker 4 (25:20):
Nick.
Speaker 5 (25:21):
She hates being called, but she also hates swears.
Speaker 4 (25:24):
It's well, let me see see this doesn't make sense
because I recall.
Speaker 3 (25:30):
After Thanksgiving I was a spectator watching Breed, Ryan Edwards
and Vision and Albright play in what was it like
a flag football game?
Speaker 4 (25:41):
Huh right? And guess what it was?
Speaker 3 (25:42):
Snow on the ground. Well guess what had all? So okay,
it's just a life choice. You choose yes when you
want to do things.
Speaker 4 (25:54):
But of course, the.
Speaker 3 (25:57):
Spring game this year, Jack, if you can make it,
you should come Breed, you should come yes, because Prime
is not going to.
Speaker 4 (26:03):
Get away from it.
Speaker 3 (26:04):
Because the spectacle that the spring game has become, the
number of fans that are now coming out that didn't
come out in years past.
Speaker 4 (26:13):
You want to keep that going. You want to keep
you know, keeping day with that carrot. You got to
keep them on the lease until the season start, right.
You got to get people to buy those season tickets.
Speaker 3 (26:23):
But also you want to give a lot of these newcomers,
both freshmen and transfers an opportunity to see what game
day will be like once the season starts. But you
also want to have an opportunity to see what these
guys can do and breed. You don't have to show
everything that you're going to run during the season. This
is why coaches have scripts. They have certain things they
(26:46):
want to run through and they want to.
Speaker 1 (26:48):
Get through so you can feel it back some Right,
you don't have to show everybody who shows everyone their cards,
They don't.
Speaker 2 (26:54):
They just show you what they want you to know.
Speaker 3 (26:56):
Well, you know what, because now it becomes like the
joint practice is in NFL.
Speaker 4 (27:01):
Right, that's kind of what these.
Speaker 3 (27:03):
Spring practices are because you can dictate situation of football
and how you want to do it.
Speaker 4 (27:08):
So it's gonna be great.
Speaker 1 (27:09):
Man.
Speaker 4 (27:10):
The guys are happy. My dude, Marster Foulk, he's up there.
That's an exciting chance to talk to him and just
to see the smile on his face.
Speaker 3 (27:18):
Man.
Speaker 4 (27:19):
But yeah, man, college football is not officially back, but
it's back in some kind of way.
Speaker 2 (27:24):
It's giving me goosebumps. We're in the midst of the
second wave of free agency in the Broncos. We're making
some moves, but there's more to come. What are the
patents have up their sleeves? That's next.
Speaker 1 (27:38):
I really appreciate that, and that joke will never get old.
I attend one mud being concert and I will never
live it down. We have the text that came through
that I wanted to address here from a Frank in Texas.
Do you think a guy like Alan Lazard would be
some of the Bronx someone the Broncos will pick?
Speaker 2 (27:54):
Also, he mentions Tyler Conklin for the tight end option and.
Speaker 1 (27:59):
Also say would love to see a receiver take in
in round three after a tight end in running back.
Speaker 2 (28:04):
So it looks like Frank is prioritizing.
Speaker 1 (28:07):
Running back and tight end like most of the most
Broncos country I think is in that realm right now.
But Nick, I'm gonna throw it over to you with
Alan Lazard and Tyler Conklin, do either of those strike
any sort of excitement in you?
Speaker 3 (28:19):
Tyler Conklin, No, I think there are better tight end
prospects and this draft that the Broncos can definitely pick
up that have more tread on the tire.
Speaker 4 (28:33):
Now, the only thing.
Speaker 3 (28:34):
That's intriguing about Alan Lazart is his size. Because Sean
Payton loves those big body type wide receivers, so that's
the only thing for me. Before free agency started, I
was very high on Matt Collins. Yeah, and I guess
(28:55):
maybe not everyone here and Broncos Country was excited about it.
But the reason I was high on mccollins because the
love of physicality that he brings right and for me,
that was as I looked at potent to prospects, free
agent prospects.
Speaker 4 (29:14):
That was my frame of mind. Let me look around
the league and let me see.
Speaker 3 (29:17):
What the defensive guys or offensive guys who had that
personality as far as being really physical. Mccollins is one
of those guys. And I know Trent Sheffield who we
were talking about in the break Zack Seegers, and I said, okay, well,
watching some film on him, you know, you know, Sheffield
seemed like he would get down and dirty as far
(29:39):
as blocking was concerned. But I said, if you compare
that film to that of mccollins, you would see a
significant difference.
Speaker 1 (29:48):
And I told you when you brought up the idea
of mccollins would be that I don't know if I
like the vibe, like if you were a Denver Bronco.
I think my mind frame, my mindset changes tremendously because
I feel like he's an out there kind dude, which.
Speaker 2 (30:00):
Has nothing to do with the way he plays football.
Speaker 3 (30:03):
Right.
Speaker 1 (30:03):
But when I like the point that you brought up,
and I don't think we were on air when you
said it, though, was the production that you see you
want that to be mostly on the offense and not
just a contributor to the offense that you might see
from sherfield. But Zach sent over, I saw that the
terms are actually a little bit better there, Zach.
Speaker 2 (30:21):
Can you let us know what those look like?
Speaker 5 (30:23):
Yes, for Mike cliss it's it's six million over two,
So it is a bit cheaper than Matt Collins, not
like crazy, but you know, about fifty percent cheaper.
Speaker 4 (30:32):
But yeah, that's what it's come in at.
Speaker 5 (30:35):
There's the extra two million dollars that can be gained
via incentives.
Speaker 4 (30:39):
Up to two million dollars.
Speaker 5 (30:41):
So I think that first number was probably agents wanting
to fluff up that number a little bit. But it
seems like six million over to with potential for two million.
Speaker 1 (30:51):
More is the right number I want to give you, though, Nick,
I think it would have been a splashy removed for
the Broncos. I think if Broncos Country would have liked
that a little bit more because you know the name,
you know the play and the Broncos just had experience
with mc collins to end this.
Speaker 2 (31:03):
Season, so I like, I did they Well, okay, talk
about it a little bit.
Speaker 3 (31:08):
Well, I mean, if you watch the Buffalo Bill's game
in the playoffs, you saw I got a little testy,
a little chippy, and mc hollins was in the middle
of it. Now, I don't know, per se if that
had anything to do with the team not selecting and
(31:29):
adding mccollins. I don't know if any players express their
their viewpoint. I mean, he could have been you know,
basically dollars and cents all I know. But I'm just
saying from where I sit. And then when I look
at players who are going to be impending free agents
and guys who are draft picks, and maybe it's because
(31:49):
of my physical.
Speaker 4 (31:50):
Nature as a person who scares of the Jesus I desire.
I think that you may understand, you may understand where
I'm coming from.
Speaker 2 (31:58):
I need I need some man, Yeah.
Speaker 4 (32:01):
I need some dogs.
Speaker 3 (32:02):
When teams look across the field, They're like, you know what,
time out, we need to call it audible.
Speaker 4 (32:09):
Because we're not running this particular play. And that's what
I'm looking for now.
Speaker 3 (32:13):
That's not to say that Trent Surfhil cannot be that
type of guy, right, hopefully he can. But I'm just saying,
what kind of peaks my interest I need those types
of guys.
Speaker 1 (32:25):
Well, let's talk more about what would peak your interests
when we get back here. What are the available options
there for the Denver Broncos. But news coming through this
evening that the Broncos were working hard on punter Brian Anger.
He ended up going back to the Cowboys after a
green on terms. How will the Broncos addressed the departure
of Riley Dixon? This is the days of our punters,
