Speaker 1 (00:00):
Mac Broncos Country tonight. Uh text came through some to
oh who's this young lady to night? Thank you one
for calling me young and a lady. I'm Breemaistis. You
can find me and let's talk Broncos. You find me
on the Belief Network with Patrick Coyote, and you can
find me here on KAA with Nick Ferguson and Zach
seekers Zach. We have a little bit of a chemistry.
We have a relationship. We have an understanding. You don't
(00:22):
get too close, I don't bite you. I think it's
pretty standard, right. Our working relationship is good. I want
you to tell people and don't blink and make them
know that you're scared and worried about where this conversation
is going.
Speaker 2 (00:36):
No, I mean I'm a little concerned.
Speaker 3 (00:38):
This is a little ominous, but I'm more taken aback
by the slight ANDed Uh what insinuation? Oh that you
are just the most femininely voiced man of all time?
Speaker 2 (00:50):
But taking that lady compliment.
Speaker 1 (00:52):
Hard, Well, young lady, you know, I think I'm at
the place where people are starting to call me ma'am ma'am.
Speaker 4 (00:58):
Yeah.
Speaker 5 (00:59):
No, no, no, no, no, no, no. You see you don't
see in order to reach that area where you're being
called ma'am, I mean, I mean you have to be
much much older than that.
Speaker 4 (01:10):
Yeah, okay, well, that's fair that someone.
Speaker 5 (01:12):
Calls you ma'am. You may want to check them wlome.
I wouldn't know that far as that. You were just
talking about how violent Brea can be. But she wanted
to slap people. Well nor only she does it with
the rings.
Speaker 3 (01:24):
I'm saying she should take the rings off and.
Speaker 6 (01:27):
Hold oh my rings?
Speaker 2 (01:29):
Yeah three out of ten.
Speaker 4 (01:32):
Hold oops.
Speaker 1 (01:33):
I don't like how you guys are putting me in
a box over here, like now I'm violent.
Speaker 4 (01:37):
Now I'm scary, and I'm dark and I'm gloomy.
Speaker 1 (01:39):
Although I will point out that nobody can tell this,
but Zach turned down the lights earlier for me. I
was roasting and I was burning because I don't do
well in the sunlight.
Speaker 4 (01:46):
It's gone dark a vampire. That's fair. You see my nails,
they're all pointy. But the but the idea here is
it's gotten.
Speaker 1 (01:56):
Dark, and Nick has just been so obliging to sit
in the in the dark studio.
Speaker 4 (02:00):
We could have turn on some lights. I'm sorry to
make you sit here.
Speaker 6 (02:02):
No, I'm perfectly fine.
Speaker 5 (02:05):
My wife would say that I do the same thing
because I'm like the light police in my house.
Speaker 4 (02:13):
You don't like big lights studios, well I don't.
Speaker 5 (02:17):
I don't like individuals turning on any lights in the
room and walk away.
Speaker 6 (02:23):
Like my kids would turn on like three lights in
their room but they're downstairs.
Speaker 4 (02:28):
Oh yeah, I know that.
Speaker 6 (02:29):
Yeah, you know who's paying for that light.
Speaker 4 (02:33):
What do you keep your thermostat up?
Speaker 1 (02:37):
Like, okay, we're talking winter summer, oh right now, in
the ebb of spring, I turn off all right.
Speaker 6 (02:45):
I used the celler fan. You could ask my head.
Speaker 5 (02:51):
So I don't know how it works in your homes
and listeners are. But the whole idea is that you
don't touch the thermostat.
Speaker 6 (03:00):
Yeah.
Speaker 1 (03:01):
The idea is is what when it's set, that's what
it's going to be.
Speaker 6 (03:04):
It's only you don't touch the throat.
Speaker 5 (03:08):
When I go test the thermistat and you say, if
I put the thermostat on to say seventy three, okay,
it needs to stay on seventy three. Only did you
take it down at sixty nine or seventy No, we
got a problem.
Speaker 4 (03:21):
Do you run hold cod or cold though?
Speaker 1 (03:23):
Like I run really cold during the winter, Like I
don't like the cold, and so I got to crank
it up a little bit because for a little bit
I was living at like sixty eight degrees in the winter,
I was freezing.
Speaker 4 (03:35):
I got to crank that up.
Speaker 1 (03:37):
I know, I shouldn't have to relayer myself, listen when
I have the god given advantage and the technological advancements
that are a heater and a heating blanket. Like I'm
walking around in one of those Snuggie hoodies with like
the fur lining, and I got I don't want to
wear slippers inside the house.
Speaker 4 (03:54):
I want to be free.
Speaker 6 (03:55):
Look, if I'm paying the bills, you better just that's
all I'm.
Speaker 1 (04:00):
I'm going to pout about this because I don't like
your a pan of bills.
Speaker 5 (04:05):
You gotta adjust if i'm if I don't want to
turn the heat all right now, Hey, that's what got
the sots for gloves.
Speaker 1 (04:14):
If you're listening, you can send me heater and money
so I can uh not have to sit in the cold.
Now it's fine, and in the summer it's cranked right
like you're cooled down.
Speaker 6 (04:25):
No, it's not crank. See if you turn up your
ac to coal. You gotta think about it.
Speaker 5 (04:31):
I mean, your your bill, your electrical bill, so you
put it at a precise temperature.
Speaker 6 (04:38):
That's ideal.
Speaker 1 (04:39):
Oh yeah, I think our household likes the comfort idea
of that, Like it's going to be a comfortable temperature,
and that comfortable temperature is gonna be variable between all
of the people that are there.
Speaker 4 (04:50):
And I'm the odd man out and I'm cold all
the time.
Speaker 5 (04:53):
Well, I'm sorry, I'm just telling you don't touch the thermostack.
Speaker 1 (04:56):
All right, I won't. I can see you swatting my
hand away from it now because I'm address the temperature
here in the studio. I love the union and I've
had a tremendous amount of fun. But we guys talk
about a couple of housekeeping items here for the Denver Broncos,
because we're talking about all the free agency moves that
are happening and all the excitement of who can we
add and what can we do to strengthen physitional groups.
(05:19):
But it really makes a question that down the line,
the Denver Broncos are going to have to tackle some
other contracts and extensions for players that you need to
keep on this team. And you may argue that some
of the individuals on the list maybe aren't the ones
that need to be here long term.
Speaker 4 (05:36):
But let's open it up with a.
Speaker 1 (05:38):
Courtland Sutton conversation because I feel like the entirety of
the time that he's been here as a member of
this Denver Broncos team, he's been tied to either trades
or you know, letting him walk is an idea that
could come to fruition later on. And I know this
starts coming to what can you get back for a
Courtland Sun and the Broncos have been linked to having
(06:00):
interest in multiple trade scenarios for their different wide receivers.
Speaker 4 (06:04):
But Sun and Nicks have.
Speaker 1 (06:05):
Built chemistry together over Bonnick's rookie season and I find
it hard to believe the Broncos would want to uproot
this because you need to ensure stability into year two.
I feel like that's a paramount. But it runs dry
this upcoming season for Courtland Sutton, And so the conversation
starts now they need to add to this room.
Speaker 4 (06:21):
No matter what.
Speaker 1 (06:21):
There's going to be draft conversations, and there's still the
idea that there's adding in free agency, which you know
there's still some really good players out there.
Speaker 4 (06:31):
So what does it mean for Courtland Suton?
Speaker 1 (06:33):
Because there's the trade value piece and we've been talking
about fiduciary.
Speaker 4 (06:36):
Responsibility all night.
Speaker 1 (06:38):
What do we do when it comes to Courtland Sutton
because his chemistry with his quarterback is so important.
Speaker 6 (06:44):
Here's what I've learned about the game of football. You
know what. The only thing that matters as far as.
Speaker 5 (06:48):
The chemistry standpoint, how much teams are willing to pay you, right,
And that's kind of.
Speaker 6 (06:55):
The bottom line.
Speaker 5 (06:56):
Obviously, with Sudden being on the last year of his contract,
of course he's looking for an extension. And just think
about it. I mean, we're going through free agency right.
Speaker 6 (07:08):
Now, and there was no mention of it.
Speaker 5 (07:11):
It was a couple of years ago where we saw
two Broncos wide receivers where we didn't even think, well,
I know, I didn't think it was gonna happen that
there was an extension for calling.
Speaker 6 (07:20):
Antim Patrick right.
Speaker 5 (07:22):
Well, what I know about teams when they look at players,
they look at your level of production and they say, okay, well,
what other young receivers in the building that can give
us a portion of your production with half of the price.
Speaker 6 (07:37):
The Broncos do have.
Speaker 5 (07:39):
That, but right now they don't have any one of
those guys that truly jumped off the page this year
and solidified themselves and made this really easy for the
Broncos to part ways with Caller soun. So for me,
I'm still if I'm the Broncos, I'm still in the
court call the sudden building business. Excuse me, because no
one else has stepped up. Even so Marvin Manson show
(08:02):
that he could be that guy. But now we're talking
about a level of consistency. That's where we are here
in Broncolyns Country.
Speaker 6 (08:10):
As it pertains to these two receivers.
Speaker 1 (08:13):
I can definitely see that there, and I think that
there's hope for development later on. But I know the
trending conversation is that a Devon Valet and Troy Franklin
and the other pieces within that room are kind of
enough and there doesn't need to be splash additions. You
obviously want day one impact from anyone you bring in,
(08:36):
but I feel like if you go through the draft,
you're targeting bigger positions of need, like tight end and
running back, so you're not necessarily grabbing a golden out
of the draft, right I doubt that he would fall
that far. But one of the most high impact wide
receivers in the draft available would be in the first round.
And if you're really looking to make an impact for
the Denver Broncos so that they can start having that
(08:57):
arsenal available, to vote nix, there's a question to be
asked there.
Speaker 5 (09:02):
But there's still more wide receivers, you know, in the draft,
And I know Ben is a huge Devon Belet fan,
and I like Devon.
Speaker 6 (09:14):
I think he has a lot of upside.
Speaker 5 (09:16):
But once again, you're still you're looking at your receiving
cores and you're comparing it to the other thirty one teams. Right,
will this offense be Will they work out eleven personnel
a lot? Which I think they probably will, and they
were working twelve personnels one back, two tight ends. This
Brocos offense gives you a variety of different personnel groupings.
(09:39):
But for me, where the rubber meets a row, it
is about the core group of guys being dangerous as
a unit.
Speaker 6 (09:46):
Right, and the danger part that you have is calling sudden.
That's your fifty to fifty guy you get.
Speaker 5 (09:53):
Calling on those deep over uss. That's where he made
the bulk of his plays.
Speaker 4 (09:57):
And then being dangerous at the catchpoint.
Speaker 5 (09:59):
Exactly late in the season, we saw Marvin Mahams get
involved with the explosive passing game, not as much to
my liking as though I would have loved to see
based on what he showed us, especially in the Cincinnati
Bengals game.
Speaker 4 (10:12):
You know when it started working, yes, but.
Speaker 6 (10:15):
You just have to add more to it. You have to.
You just can't be settled with what you have. You
know what it's like. I love doing this to help
people understand.
Speaker 5 (10:26):
It's like a relationship, right, you just can't settle in
that relationship.
Speaker 6 (10:30):
I love she or he knows that I love them.
Speaker 5 (10:34):
I don't have to tell them every single day, yes
you do, Yes, you do.
Speaker 6 (10:39):
You got to put up or shut up.
Speaker 5 (10:40):
And it's no different in the game of football when
it comes to the relationship. You need to live up
to your level of expectations every single day as a partner.
Speaker 6 (10:49):
No different for a player.
Speaker 1 (10:50):
Well, you have to also see from the other side
as well in order to get that payday and get
that paycheck. I think that has to be multiple seasons
in a row, and it has to continue to be
a good a relationship with everybody involved. So as long
as I think Courtland Sutton continues to be what Bonix
needs for development, which I think is a proven concept
right now, then that means that the raprocity that you're
(11:13):
seeing from the Denver Broncos in the head office means
he's retained through the end of his contract. I think
that restructuring, though, is important moving forward, especially when we
talk about being responsible and strategic with how the Broncos
spend money.
Speaker 4 (11:25):
I think Court has to give a little there as well.
Speaker 5 (11:29):
So you're asking Court to restructure his deal, right, that's
what you're asking.
Speaker 1 (11:36):
I'm saying it could be a possibility, and you got
to be open, right, you have to find compromise if
you're looking to have the continued success that you're seeing
as we saw in twenty twenty four, maybe that there's
the opportunity to have that be part of the discussion.
Now when we're talking about compromising in relationships, it's not
I want, you want and we got to meet in
the middle. It's what's good for the both of us
(11:56):
if we want to continue moving forward.
Speaker 5 (11:58):
Okay, elf In Courtland sudden Shoes, So in Courtland's career,
He's had two years where he's gone over more than
a thousand yards.
Speaker 6 (12:11):
Last season and in twenty nineteen. Now the season before that,
in twenty twenty.
Speaker 5 (12:16):
Three, is yards were down with seven hundred and seventy two,
but he had ten touchdowns of Russell only eight this year,
but more reception yards. If someone came to you and said, look,
we need you to take a little haircut.
Speaker 6 (12:33):
Based on his salary, how much of a haircut you're
willing to take?
Speaker 5 (12:39):
Now, in this scenario, you are Courtland Sudden No.
Speaker 1 (12:44):
And that's where I'm always going to be the advocate
for the player getting paid. It's like when you see
Cody Barton get his contract and move on from the
Denver Broncos. I don't think anywhere logically I would say, oh,
I really wish that he would have taken less in
order to stay as a Bronco. Now, as a fan
of his game, I think it's important to note that
I didn't like that that not being a thing like
(13:06):
leaving the Broncos I think makes the Broncos worse.
Speaker 4 (13:08):
I think Courtland Sutton.
Speaker 1 (13:09):
Leaving the Broncos would leave the Broncos with a with
a hole there, especially just because of his chemistry with
bon Nicks. But I would never say that a player needs,
because this is a different conversation than just a general relationship,
that they need to take a pay cut. So yeah,
if I'm Courtland Sutton, if I'm in Courtland Sutt's position
and as an advocate for players getting paid, I would
(13:30):
never say that they.
Speaker 4 (13:31):
Need to take a haircut.
Speaker 1 (13:32):
But that is the conversation that has to happen when.
Speaker 4 (13:34):
The NFL is a business.
Speaker 5 (13:35):
Now, can I give you a reason if I was,
if I were Courtland, I would take a pay cut
or I'm sorry, let me rephrase that restructure right because
if you're telling me, okay, well I know the team
is moving in the right direction, I want to be
a part of.
Speaker 4 (13:50):
It, right right.
Speaker 5 (13:51):
That's the first part. The second part is restructure, not
pay cut. Restructure.
Speaker 4 (13:58):
You just get your money. We're on down the road.
Speaker 5 (14:01):
No no, no, no no no no, I don't know
what you're talking about. I want my money right now,
own delivery. It's the odd Yes, I want cash on delivery.
Speaker 6 (14:09):
So what you can do?
Speaker 5 (14:10):
And so many players do this and teams do like
Kansas City does it all the time, right right, They
just move they just move money.
Speaker 6 (14:19):
So we're just.
Speaker 5 (14:20):
Gonna make sure that my contract is salary cap friendly,
which is going to convert some money into assigning bonus
and I paid play for a minimum right or a
lower number.
Speaker 6 (14:31):
That way we all get what we want.
Speaker 5 (14:33):
I get, I got more money now, opposed to waiting
to the season to hit certain bonuses.
Speaker 6 (14:38):
You give it to me now, haven't even touched the field.
Give me my money now.
Speaker 5 (14:43):
I perform in the previous years because that's what you're paying.
Speaker 6 (14:46):
Me for my production and my continuation of my production.
Speaker 5 (14:50):
So you just give my money to me now, and
then you restructured and you just kind of distribute to
what you want to see.
Speaker 1 (14:56):
We solved dolls their woes and they're problems here tonight
on Broncos Country tonight.
Speaker 4 (15:00):
Zach Scotland setting here long term after this year.
Speaker 2 (15:05):
I think so.
Speaker 3 (15:06):
I think they will make a way to or they'll
find a way to make it work. You know, the
chemistry is so important. You want him there in camp.
We saw what the forty nine ers last year, the
damage that not having a guy like Brandon Aiyuk around
for the off season program to have to his production
even before he got injured, and I just you don't
want to rock the boats everything we've been talking about
through so much of the show.
Speaker 2 (15:25):
It's time to load up.
Speaker 3 (15:27):
It's time to take that next step as a team
and get more weapons around bow knicks, not start stripping
them away. Corland Sutton is the only thing I'm excited
about v Lay, but he's not there yet. I'm excited
about Nims, he's not there yet. Sudden's the only thing
resembling a true number one option in this offense.
Speaker 2 (15:44):
Make that guy happy. They've got the money to make
it work.
Speaker 6 (15:47):
I need consistency.
Speaker 5 (15:49):
I need reliability if you are a quarterback. And once
again let's keep us in mind, the running game wasn't
what it needed to be last year, and we don't
know where the team is going to get to because
they haven't made any selections far.
Speaker 6 (16:02):
As free age, as far as running backs and concern.
Speaker 5 (16:05):
Oh, by the way, we know the tight end group
for whatever reason, and we can just you can debate that,
but the tight end room is not showing up. So
the idea is that Bow's reliable safety net. It's fourteen
and so someone else shows up, right, fourteen is your guy?
Speaker 1 (16:27):
I gotta agree and I think that's what's so beautiful
about this conversation is I think we're all saying the
same things, but how you get to that and.
Speaker 4 (16:33):
How the Broncos get to that may be different from
the seven two O.
Speaker 1 (16:36):
I'm with Bree, You three together are great. Thank you
kind listener. Up next, Zach gets to switch the rolls
around a little bit as we hop into the NFL
six pack. And that's all here on Broncos Country Night
Kait eight fifty AM ninety four one FM. Because Country
Tonight breemasas Nick Ferguson and Zach Sears has a fun
(16:59):
little game us. We're gonna just go straight into our
NFL six pack, and I think he has some really
interesting questions for us.
Speaker 4 (17:07):
Tonight.
Speaker 2 (17:08):
It's time for the NFL sick Pad.
Speaker 5 (17:11):
I'm going to trade the last year insight and inside
information you can't find anywhere else.
Speaker 6 (17:16):
I know six the top six NFL headline.
Speaker 3 (17:20):
What starting off here with the New Orleans Saints the
awkwardly big spenders of free agency so far, the New
Orleans Saints showed out fifty one million dollars over three
years to bring.
Speaker 2 (17:34):
Back Chase Young.
Speaker 3 (17:34):
That's seventeen million annually, thirty point eight million to bring
back Juwan Johnson over three years.
Speaker 2 (17:40):
I'll let you do that one for yourself.
Speaker 3 (17:42):
And thirty one point five million to poach Justin Reid
from the Chiefs. That's an additional signing, and also traded
for Patriots defensive lineman Davon Gotshaw, who's due nearly.
Speaker 2 (17:51):
Fifteen million over the next two years.
Speaker 3 (17:54):
It says all with them having probably the least healthy
caps do not even probably by far the least healthy
caps situation in the league.
Speaker 2 (18:01):
What do you make of.
Speaker 3 (18:02):
The Saints continuing to rack up their insane credit card bill?
Speaker 6 (18:06):
One?
Speaker 4 (18:06):
How dare you expect me to do math here?
Speaker 1 (18:08):
But trying to win a Super Bowl with Derek Carzak
is exactly what the Saints are doing. It at least
looks like they're trying to actively attempt to restructure contracts.
But it feels like taking a really tiny bucket and
trying to bail out a giant leak in a boat.
I don't think it's smart, but they were smart to
focus on their defensive line, so at least there's that. Nick.
Speaker 5 (18:27):
I'm going to say this, I guess the idea is
that if you are already spending money. You just keep
spending I mean, I mean the Saints doesn't. They don't
really have an interest rate that I know of, so
it's just money on their books and just trying to
figure things out. The one thing that got me was
the abservant amount of money paid to Chase Young. But
(18:50):
that tells me here's a franchise that's desperate and they're
desperate to put some.
Speaker 6 (18:55):
Kind of winning team on the field.
Speaker 5 (18:58):
But the move they he does it really equate to
a better team for Kellen Moore. Are they winning more
than teen games? I still can't say the answer is yet.
But hey, they're spending money. Swipe the car.
Speaker 4 (19:12):
That's what window shopping is for Zach.
Speaker 2 (19:14):
Yeah, here's the interest rate for you, and they're.
Speaker 6 (19:17):
Gonna keep racking it up. I think you're absolutely right.
Speaker 3 (19:19):
They're set to pay seventy million dollars to Derek Carr
next season. They're gonna pay fifteen million dollars to a
thirty eight year old Cameron Jordan next season. And they
have to keep doing this because the only way they
can field a team is.
Speaker 2 (19:34):
Push that dead on into the future. It's it's a
rough one to be I'm scared two.
Speaker 3 (19:42):
The Houston Texans traded Kenyan Green this morning.
Speaker 2 (19:46):
Guard Kenyan Greed this morning.
Speaker 3 (19:47):
To the Eagles for star safety Chauncey Gardner Johnson, just
a day after trading away All Pro left tackle Laramie Tunsel.
Speaker 2 (19:56):
Though Green has struggled to.
Speaker 3 (19:59):
You know, stay on the field, He's been in and
out of the starting lineup.
Speaker 2 (20:03):
Do you feel this is.
Speaker 3 (20:05):
The Texans just kind of further screwing CJ. Stroud with
a poor offensive line. And what do you make of
Phillies on again off again relationship with Chauncey Gardner Johnson.
Speaker 1 (20:16):
Well, one, it seems a little unhealthy that they continue
to have this back and forth, but I.
Speaker 4 (20:19):
Think it also shows that the Texans are on a
little bit of a tear.
Speaker 1 (20:22):
I think it's misguided because they poach special teams ace
Tremon smithway from the Broncos, so they're making an attempt here.
Speaker 4 (20:29):
But I'm shocked the Eagles part.
Speaker 1 (20:30):
Away with CJGJ because I think this is a natural
regression of the Super Bowl winning team in my eyes,
But I think that it's just weird timing.
Speaker 4 (20:38):
I assume Philly.
Speaker 1 (20:39):
Will attack the draft to help fill some of those
and fix some of those gaps.
Speaker 4 (20:43):
But the Texans win out here.
Speaker 1 (20:45):
I think it comes with a slew of moves on
the defense and it just makes more sense for them.
Speaker 5 (20:50):
Well, you know, I'm not really down on the Texans
because they really did help out CJ. Straw a little
bit on the offensive side of the ball. They acquired
lak Thomlinson who was in San Francisco. Well that was
the left guard position, Christian Kurr and Braxton Burios to
guys who are like slot receivers, they know how to
get open. And having a defensive minded coach and Damiko Ryans,
(21:14):
he's looking at what Vic Fangio did in the Super
Bowl and say, listen, we need to get better on
the defensive side of the ball.
Speaker 6 (21:20):
We know that there may.
Speaker 5 (21:21):
Be some times where we struggle with CJ and struggle offensively,
but if we could stop people keep the game closed,
they feel as though they can win win a lot
of those games.
Speaker 4 (21:30):
Imitation is the greatest form of flatterdy.
Speaker 3 (21:32):
We saw the Eagles defense shut down that Chiefs offense.
The Texans defense and Demiko Ryans did a day good
job in their own right in that divisional round.
Speaker 2 (21:40):
To your appointment, sorry.
Speaker 3 (21:44):
The Minnesota Vikings overhauled their trench play this offseason, maybe
taking a lesson from those Philadelphia Eagles as well. They
showed out a lot of money for offensive guard Will Fries.
They're paying Jonathan Allen twenty million dollars a year and
they're paying Javon Hargive over fifteen million dollars a year.
Speaker 2 (22:03):
What do you make or sorry?
Speaker 3 (22:05):
Do you think the Vikings or the Broncos defense is
scarier after their respective off season additions. The Vikings defense
adding Jonathan Allen and Javon Hargrave, Broncos of course, adding
Dre Greenlaw and talanoa hufung Us.
Speaker 4 (22:18):
That's a true question, Zach.
Speaker 1 (22:19):
The Broncos defense was already scary before those additions, even
before the off season acquisitions.
Speaker 4 (22:24):
I think you got to say that they've.
Speaker 1 (22:26):
Got their hard hitters now and they're adding season zest
a real mean pop is. I think what they were
going for with these signings was to add an addition
to this defense. And I'm not going to discount the Vikings,
but I don't know if they have the same cohesiveness
that the Broncos do and what they've worked to really
build here. It helps sprinkle in some of that forty
nine ers magic onto the Broncos end, which I think
(22:47):
is a great addition.
Speaker 5 (22:48):
I think I like the Broncos because when you look
at these two teams as far as point totals overall
in a season, there's about a couple of slots that
separate Minnesota from the dem Broncos. Obviously, the Broncos are
a slate a higher we think about it. You get
two guys who can turn the ball over with green law,
(23:09):
but more importantly new safety and lufunga. To me, those
extra possessions for a guy like Bo Nixon usually or
you hope, that means extra points. So I will lean
more towards the Broncos. I know it sounds like I'm
being a Homer, but just looking at the outlaid defensively,
I'll lean more on the Broncos than the Vikings.
Speaker 1 (23:29):
Four.
Speaker 2 (23:32):
Welly agree.
Speaker 3 (23:32):
I don't have anything to add on those, but Javon
Holland talking about some of the safety signings. The Broncos
brode in Tallano Hufanga for fifteen million dollars. Cam By
them was signed for fifteen million dollars a year as well.
Javon Holland goes to who has thought of as the
crown jewel in this safety market, ends up signing with
the New York Giants for fifteen million dollars as well.
(23:54):
In that same trio, Ravon Moriggs surprisingly ended up being
the highest paid or surprisingly to some, ended up being
the highest paid safety in this free agency cycle, raking
in seventeen million.
Speaker 2 (24:07):
Dollars per year.
Speaker 3 (24:08):
Are you surprised by Javon Holland's ultimate price tag and
why do you think he signed a round up signing
for this amount.
Speaker 4 (24:16):
I don't know. I'm shocked by this decision.
Speaker 1 (24:18):
I think that it seems and it feels a little
bit personal.
Speaker 4 (24:21):
I'm not sure why Holland.
Speaker 1 (24:23):
Would take as much of a discount here to go
play for the Giants. I think the Giants is the
bigger question mark here, if it weren't clouded by something
a little bit more. He add in some social media rumblings,
it stinks. Honestly, it's rife with betrayal, and I think
that's exactly why that decision was made.
Speaker 4 (24:39):
Pewer betrayal.
Speaker 5 (24:40):
Well, the first thing I'll say is like, man, where
was this money when I played? Because at one point
they want to shell out this type of money for
the safety position. But this tells you so much about
whether the direction of the league has gone since I play.
You have more athletic tight ends. You're asking safety to
do a lot more play both free and strong, be interchangeable.
And looking at this situation, I mean, this is what
(25:01):
the market is. I mean, teams paid what the market
says that you're gonna pay for a starting safety.
Speaker 6 (25:06):
And you look at you know, Jamon Holland. I mean
he was one of those.
Speaker 5 (25:09):
Guys who said, okay, well he was one of the
top guys as far as the safeties were concerned. And
this free agency client. So this is why, and this
be totally honest, the Giants are thinking, like, man, we
gotta do something. Joe Shane is like, look, we let
Tae Kwon Barkley go to fill and win a Super Bowl.
I gotta do something. I gotta make some moves that
help me say my job, and the only way to
do that is winning freaking football games.
Speaker 1 (25:32):
So you think you just got lucky too with the
price tag, that it just worked out for him in
that way.
Speaker 4 (25:35):
Was there more to it?
Speaker 5 (25:36):
Oh? I mean, of course, when you get some when
you get a team that's desperate, Yeah, they're gonna pay
you whatever, and then the market is gonna be what
the market is for a guy who's being coveted of
Holland's talent, That's kind of.
Speaker 6 (25:49):
What it is.
Speaker 5 (25:50):
But at the end of the day, you're trying to
win games and either you want that player on your
team or he's playing against you.
Speaker 3 (25:56):
Right, Nick, I'm curious as a start safety yourself, if
you were a GM, Nick Ferguson.
Speaker 6 (26:01):
Give me your money.
Speaker 2 (26:02):
Which is more your cup of teach? Von Holland or
Trevon Morrick?
Speaker 6 (26:07):
Hmm.
Speaker 5 (26:08):
I like Holland. Hall is the kind of a big
do right. He comes down, he's a telper. You can tackle?
Speaker 6 (26:13):
For me? Is how good are you with your feet?
And can't you play in space?
Speaker 5 (26:17):
Because I mean, whether you're playing Cover one where you
single high safety in the middle, you play in Cover two,
at some point team's gonna try to expose you to
see how you covering you tackle in space. Holland, to
my to my guestimations at watching and play, he's done
a great job tackling the space and that's kind of
what helped him get this deal.
Speaker 6 (26:36):
Fives.
Speaker 2 (26:38):
Getting that insight there.
Speaker 3 (26:41):
On the negative end of things, here, NFL dot com
lists Jerry Jones and Patrick Mahomes as this free agency
period's biggest losers so far. They list Jones as that
because Micah Parsons is set to make over forty dollars
in the wake of the Miles Garrett deal, and the
Cowboys are now a decade removed from the last time
(27:02):
they handed out six million dollars a year to a
free free agent.
Speaker 2 (27:06):
You have to go all the way back to the
twenty fifteen offseason.
Speaker 3 (27:10):
Patrick Mahomes is listed there because, according to Tenipo dot com,
the Chief's offensive line got worse despite it being in
need and despite it being highly expensive. In your chose opinion,
who do you think is the biggest loser a free
agency so far?
Speaker 2 (27:24):
And feel free to go with an option not on
the list.
Speaker 1 (27:27):
Yeah, I love the idea of the Chiefs being the
biggest losers in free agency. I think you can call
me petty for that. I live for it, I'm thriving
in it. But the Cowboys honestly decided to just keep
their head above water, and it might affect them later
on down this period and also into the season because
if you're not looking to make any sort of swings
simply because you're financially strapped to do so, you got
(27:48):
bigger question marks.
Speaker 4 (27:49):
But I have question marks flowing around my head when
it comes to the Seahawks. What are they doing there?
Speaker 1 (27:53):
Who's Donald throwing to and what's the big picture plan there?
When you start fire sailing everybody at the end of
the day, I want to throw out Aaron Rodgers and
Russell Wilson because they're withering away. They don't have a
team to land on. I know that's not gonna be
the inevitability of it, but the timelines are closing in
the sun's setting, and teams are tripping over themselves to
make a deal with anybody but them.
Speaker 5 (28:14):
Well, I'll say this, I mean when you look at
some of the deals that have taken place, I mean,
Bret Beach has done a great job with free agency
in retaining his own talent and Kansas City, so they're
gonna find a way to retool that offense they always do.
Speaker 6 (28:31):
They're gonna bring in some young talent as they always do.
Speaker 5 (28:34):
So I'm not overly concerned or feeling sorry for Kansas City,
but I would say this about Jerry Jones.
Speaker 6 (28:41):
See, that's the problem with Jerry Jones.
Speaker 5 (28:43):
Jerry should have learned from the Dak Prescott contract.
Speaker 6 (28:46):
Jerry should have learned from the CD Lamb contract.
Speaker 5 (28:48):
But I guess it's three times a charm for Jerry,
because the longer you wait, the money's only gonna go up.
So I think it is Jerry who I guess is
the biggest loser when they come soon free agency.
Speaker 3 (29:01):
Another one that jumps out to me, I'll throw out
Brian Daball and Joe Shane talking about the Giants needing
to do something. They need an answer at quarterback. They're
one of the last people at the dance without a.
Speaker 2 (29:11):
Partner right now.
Speaker 3 (29:12):
Sick And speaking of that, three free agent and a
big free agent starting quarterback vacancies remain with Pittsburgh, the Giants,
and the Vikings not having a starting quarterback yet depending
on JJ McCarthy's health, while the Titans and the Browns
have also been linked to some of the remaining top
(29:32):
veteran quarterbacks. So I'm curious, where do you guys think
Russell Wilson, Aaron Rodgers, and Kirk Cousins will play in
twenty twenty five.
Speaker 4 (29:41):
Oh, this question. It makes me a little nervous.
Speaker 1 (29:43):
And all three individuals have had success in their past.
That's why they're here, that's why we have the considerations
that we do about their careers and where they're going
and kind of.
Speaker 4 (29:52):
Why it's so sad to see that sparkle.
Speaker 1 (29:54):
Die off and die out as they continue to see
if they still have it. And I know that it's
hard for players to walk away from the game when
they're not necessarily ready to. That leaves this opportunity where
you're right, Zach, They're not gonna have a partner in
the hodown and it's coming down to the wire. So
if you take a guy like Kirk Cousins, I think
goes to the Cleveland Browns. And I'm throwing that out
(30:15):
there because I don't really know, but at the end
of the day, wouldn't be funny guys. And I'm just
gonna throw this out here because maybe it's the possibility
if Russell Wilson's on a starting quarterback, what if they
both end up in Pittsburgh, Right, you got Justin Field's
going over to the Jets. A little quarterback competition, a
chicken fight, if you will, I'm just gonna vote. I'm
gonna I'm gonna root against whoever they go to, just
(30:37):
from the sense of it, But I know that's not
a possibility here. I just don't know who's going to
land where because I think Russell Wilson might end up
ultimately being the odd man left out.
Speaker 5 (30:46):
Well, all of this is based on what happens with
Aaron Rodgers. I mean, is Pittsburgh a nice landing spot
for him for what they have defensively, the head coach,
the city, the fan base. Absolutely, but Mike Tomlin being
able to put up with the antics of one Aaron Rodgers,
(31:07):
It seemed like it would be difficult. But I think
if there's any coach that can actually do it, it
would be Mike Tomlin. So the domino effect is if
Rogers signs with the Pittsburgh Stewers, now Russell is that guy.
Speaker 6 (31:23):
Now you can go to either.
Speaker 5 (31:25):
The Giants, Tennessee or Minnesota in the backup role. So
for me, let's just see how that works out. But
you brought up Kirk Cousins and the possibility of Kirk
going to Cleveland. I really don't like that. They already
traded for Kenny Pickett.
Speaker 1 (31:41):
From the Eagles, Yeah, they got Miles Garrett, his Super
Bowl winning quarterback, right, so they.
Speaker 5 (31:45):
Got that guy, and I mean Kirk Kesse he can't
run anymore.
Speaker 4 (31:49):
No, definitely, not a mobile quarterback whatsoever.
Speaker 6 (31:51):
They cannot move in the pocket.
Speaker 5 (31:53):
If your quarterback cannot move in the pocket, you're gonna
lose a lot of games.
Speaker 6 (31:58):
That's just the way it is in the league. Now,
can you pick it?
Speaker 3 (32:00):
The only quarterback in NFL history to be thrown by
the football. I don't know if you guys see that.
Speaker 1 (32:08):
That is a fantastic clip and now it's playing renfree
in my head for the rest of the evening. It's
an interesting conversation as you continue to understand that the
Broncos are not in the qv carousel conversation, and that's
important to note as we continue to be excited and
optimistic for the future. That's throughout the free agency because
there's a new NFL season upon us and the Broncos
(32:30):
have many decisions to make. They're making moves, cleaning house,
renovating positions.
Speaker 4 (32:35):
What will they do next?
Speaker 1 (32:37):
Broncos Country Night KOA eight fifty AM, ninety four to
one FM, Free
